There are numerous daily services to Paros from Mykonos. In the shoulder months , you can expect up to eight trips; in the peak season, there can be as many as nine. This gives you plenty of flexibility for your travel plans.

While there are no buses from Fabrika station to the port, this area has the highest number of taxis and transfer services. Staying around Mykonos town will also result in reduced fares.

Where is the Paros Ferry Terminal?

The ferry terminal for Paros is in the capital city of Parikia , on the northern end of the island. The popular village of Naousa is around 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometers) from the port.

You can get around Paros by either bus or rental vehicle. The bus is an efficient transportation choice if you stay in Parikia or Naousa and only want to visit the most popular attractions.

If you want to explore the many villages and unique beaches, renting a car is the best option .

In addition, taxis are available, but they tend to be one of the most expensive options for getting around Paros. Unlike Mykonos, Uber is not available.

The Venetian Castle is one of the most significant landmarks in Paros. While it is a ruin today, it’s a must-see in Naousa!

What you can expect to see when traveling from Mykonos to Paros

Ferry is the only practical way to get from Mykonos to Paros, so be prepared to spend some time at sea. The blue of the Aegean will spread out in all directions as you head due south from Mykonos to the port of Paros.

You can cross the 43 kilometers (27 miles) separating the islands in just 45 minutes. Technically, this would allow you to visit Paros on a day trip. But after sampling its many charms, you’ll want to spend at least a night there, if not (much) longer.

Be aware that you will probably be approached by people looking to direct you to hotels or tours in the hope of receiving a commission. Your best bet is to brush them off. This is easy to do if your hotel or activities are planned in advance.

When is the best time of year to visit Paros?

The best time to visit Paros depends on how you feel about the heat, crowds, and higher prices.

July and August see a surge of both Greek and international visitors. Of course, with bigger crowds come higher prices. The tradeoff is that the island is at its busiest. With all the shops and restaurants open and the party scene at its peak, finding something fun to do is never hard.

Expect hot days, with daily highs averaging around 30°C (86°F). During summer, there is practically no chance of rain, making it the perfect season for beach days. 

Winds are expected, which will help keep you cool and is great for windsurfers.

The shoulder seasons of May, June, and September offer slightly lower temperatures and only a fraction of the crowds. 

The chance of rainfall during these months is still minimal, which makes for great beach days as well. And while the island’s nightlife and tourist spots aren’t quite as lively, many prefer the more authentic experience of visiting Paros outside peak season.

How much time do I need in Paros?

Even though Paros’ location near Mykonos allows you to visit the island on a day trip, you’ll want more time than that. To do the island justice, set aside at least three days to fully explore the beaches and landscape. Add several more if you really want to relax. 

As a side note, Paros makes a great base for visiting other nearby islands, like Antiparos and Naxos, which are just a short boat ride away.

Cyclades Greek Islands: Mykonos, Santorini, Naxos and Paros

The Cyclades are renowned for their beaches and their white villages that seem to be perfect postcards, from which extraordinary views are contemplated. The most famous is Fira , which can be seen on a trip to Santorini .

For its part, Mykonos is a recognized beach destination, but also less popular islands, such as Naxos and Paros , have good beaches. Greek island travel packages are crowded in June, July, and August, and these generally arid islands are covered in a beautiful blanket of flowers in spring.

The identity of the Cyclades is very diverse: some, like Santorini , are peaceful, others, like Mykonos , live the night intensely.

The Cyclades also offer the richness of their history, with the ruins of Delos attesting to it. For its part, Mykonos and Santorini have international airports and Paros and Naxos receive only domestic flights.

On a trip to Mykonos you can get to know this arid and abrupt island. Mykonos is one of the smallest of the Cyclades , but one of its most popular. Only 16 kilometers long and 11 wide, its two highest peaks do not reach 360 meters above sea level. According to an ancient myth, the rocks scattered throughout its arid landscape are the solidified remains of the giants killed by Heracles. Despite its desert appearance, Mykonos became one of the most famous (and expensive) of the Aegean islands . Tourists from all over the world flock to it, attracted by its sandy beaches and the bars and restaurants that crowd the port, also called Mykonos . The whitewashed streets of this island, the cubic houses and the churches with their blue or light blue touch of the doors or domes constitute the stereotype of classic Cycladic architecture.

Mykonos fame lies on its beaches as it is not particularly a green island. The best of them are on the south coast of the island; Platys Gialos , 3.5 km south of the city, is the quintessential family beach, with water sports and a long stretch of sand. Those who want to get a full tan can head to the famous nude beaches: the first is Paraga , or Agia Anna , a quiet corner with a good tavern; the next is Paradise , with camping, disco and water sports. Elia , also a nudist, fills up in high season. If you like to go out at night, they are unmissable places on a trip to Mykonos.

Kastro , the oldest part of the city, is further up the port area. The excellent Ethnographic Museum, one of the best in Greece, was built on a section of the old castle wall; it occupies an elegant ship captain's mansion and houses a valuable collection of ancient and modern Mykonos pottery, embroidery and textiles. One of the most striking pieces is the genuine Petros pelican, now dissected, which was the island's pet for 29 years.

The Vonis mill, from the 16th century, was restored and is operation; it was one of the 30 windmills that the families of the island used to grind corn.

According to the Greeks, Santorini is the most fantastic island in the Aegean. Also called Thera   –which was the main one of the Doric colonies, founded in the 9th century BC– , it is a picturesque island crowned by the white towns of the cities Fira and Oia , with its narrow streets and stairs that climb along the hillside. A trip to Santorini is ideal to enjoy nature, laze around in a beautiful way and entertain yourself with the great tourist and commercial activity that takes place there.

Santorini is the southernmost of the Greek Cyclades islands, and shaped like a crescent moon is the edge of an ancient submerged volcano that erupted around 1500 B.C. Only the splendid views of the caldera would be worth it, if it did not also have archaeological museums, magnificent excavations, villages with radiant white, ancient palaces and monasteries. The city Fira , capital of the island, is located, with its typical buildings, on a cliff from which it dominates the bay and you can see a magnificent panorama of the volcano, especially at sunset.

A trip to Santorini is unique, and even more so knowing that there has been much speculation about the possible identification of this island with the mythical Atlantis , mentioned in Egyptian papyri and of which, thousands of years ago, Plato wrote about. But the matter is still under discussion.

This island stands out for its great sweetness and tranquility. According to its tourists, the first impression that is perceived when getting off the ship is of abundance, prosperity and serenity. This island is the greenest and most fertile of the Cyclades, with its potato crops, livestock, cheese, fruit and olive industries in the pyramidal shadow of Mount Zas (998 meters), it is practically self-sufficient.

Inhabited for 5,000 years, the island offers visitors memorable landscapes, such as steep ravines, hidden valleys, long sandy beaches, and towns ranging from a Cretan bastion in the mountains to its capital, on the seafront, which strongly evokes its Venetian past. Cora is its capital, highlighted by its white houses on a hill topped by the only surviving tower of a Venetian castle. At the end of the port, stands the most famous monument in Naxos : la Portara. This is a massive cover that leads nowhere.

Paros lacks the Mykonos distinction and has fewer top-notch hotels, but when the season is in full swing, it tends to receive numerous visitors who found no accommodation on other more touristic islands. Its prices are lower and its golden sandy beaches attract visitors. Although it is a quiet island, the ports of Parecia and Nausa offer an active nightlife.

Along the pier, heading east, you will find a long line of bars, fast food restaurants and cafes, mostly properties from Athenians that come to Paros in summer to take advantage of tourism. The commercial area and the best places to eat are located in the interior of Parecia , where it is easy to get lost in the maze of narrow, cobbled alleys that perpendicularly cut the streets of the quiet residential areas.

Not to be missed ,there are two important monuments in Parecia located very close to each other: the Church of Our Lady of the Hundred Portals and the Archaeological museum .

We are mid-late twenties, love swimming, hiking (anything active really), food, cultural history, and we are not looking for lively nightlife.

We are looking for ‘off the beaten track’ islands and we aren’t planning on going to Mykonos , Paros and Santorini . So far we’ve thought of:

Flight straight to Milos (3/4 days) > sifnos (2days) > Naxos (3 days) > Donousa (1 day) > amorgos (2 days) > back to Athens

Im toying with whether we should go to either donousa / amorgos for 2-3 days at the end - im not sure it would be sensible to do both? Any recommendations would be appreciated 😊

I would be sad to miss out on islands including Kimolos, koufonisia, irakleia, Syria, tinos, etc. however, there’s only so much we can do on this trip!!

Please let me know your recommendations and any tips that you may have. Also, does anyone know whether it’s easy to book accomodation when you’re there or is it best to book in advance?

You have limited time so it makes sense to hop to fewer islands and see more of the ones that you do visit.

Naxos for example is a large island with a lot to see and do. It has the best beaches and you should consider spending more time there than any of the other islands on your list. You can do day trips from Naxos including Santorini, Mykonos & Delos or Koufonissi which may interest you.

If you intend to fly back to Athens you need to end your trip on an island with an airport so that's Naxos or Milos if you stick to your original list of islands.

It's also worth reading the post on island hopping and ferries which is the top heading on the TA Greece forum. You can then use the links provided to check ferry options for the route you decide on.

I would say overall that less is definitely more. You can waste time and money travelling between islands when you would have a better overall experience visiting fewer places.

I agree with Spiderdog; 5 islands are way too many for 12 days.

Look at the ferry prices; if you're going to use some or all high-speed ferries, then you could be paying €50-80 per ticket each time you want to relocate. Two nights on an island is only one full day, and one night on Donousa seems a bit pointless unless you can arrive very early and depart late. Even then, you have to consider that you'll have luggage with you, and hotel check-in/out times are usually 2-3pm and 11am. It sounds like a box-ticking exercise.

Mid-September won't be quite as busy as July or August, but there will still be a decent number of tourists on all those islands. Many of them were 'off the beaten track' a few years ago but are now pretty well on the radar for people who want to avoid the likes of Mykonos and Santorini . Again, I am not putting you off; they're great islands (Sifnos is my favourite Greek island), but they will definitely still have a 'buzz' of tourism at that time of year.

As for accommodation booking, I've always preferred to book ahead, even at the risk of delays due to ferry cancellations. Yes, you can book within a day or two of arrival, but your options will be quite limited. I don't think there's such a thing as last-minute bargains these days, short of turning up on the island and seeing what locals are advertising at the port, but that's a bit too 'seat of the pants' for me! If you book with free cancellation, you can change your plans up to the cancellation cut-off date if you want to keep some flexibility.

For ferry tickets, again, it depends on your risk appetite. Milos to Sifnos is a short trip, and there are multiple daily crossings, so I doubt they will all get fully booked in September. You can just buy a ticket locally in Milos. Sifnos to Naxos I can only see one daily service which is the small Seajets' Super Jet. It's not a great boat and can be a rough ride in windy conditions (I would know - I was on the boat today from Santorini to Milos and it was awful, people were being sick everywhere as it's quite windy at the moment). There might be alternatives on larger ships, but a quick search on FerryHopper didn't find anything else.

If you go ahead, I'd recommend staying in Adamas on Milos (the port town) and Kamares on Sifnos (likewise the port town but has a fab beach and is my favourite resort). On Naxos, good options are either south of Naxos Town near St George Beach or on the western coastline, Agia Anna or south towards Plaka.

Visit the Parikia Old Town

Parikia is one of the main villages, home to the main port of Paros. Its narrow streets interlace with each other, and quaint Cycladic architecture lines every corner. Beautiful pink bougainvilleas are sprawled everywhere. This breathtaking view makes this a great spot for a casual stroll. There is also a lot of hustle and bustle, filled with traditional tavernas, Orthodox churches, including the 100 Doors Church, the archaeological museum of Paros, trendy cafes and boutiques, souvenir shops, and some of the best restaurants.

Enjoy Fresh Seafood at Naoussa Village

The Greek island of Paros has many traditional villages, and Naoussa is one of them. Some of the best things to do in this fishing village include enjoying the vibrant colors of the harbor, checking out the 15th-century Venetian Castle, which is a perfect spot for the best views, and splurging on shopping and delectable seafood that leaves you wanting more. 

If history isn’t fascinating enough, you can enjoy the thriving  nightlife with bars and parties as soon as the sun sets. At the port of Naoussa, you can take a water taxi to visit  beautiful beaches  like Monastiri Beach and Paros Park.

The Panagia Ekatontapiliani Church is among the best-preserved early Christian monuments near the Port of Parikia. Legend has it that this was built by Saint Helena or Saint Constantine, the first Emperor of Constantinople. Constructed in the 4th century AD in ancient times, it is called the Church with the Hundred Doors, where one door is hidden. 

You can take a short walk from the nearest bus station to visit the place. There is a small gift shop and many areas with shade where you can rest and take a break from the scorching heat. It is recommended that visitors keep a water bottle with them during the summer months.

Discover a Small Cove on Kolymbithres Beach

The magnificent Kolymbithres Beach is known for its rocky hills and granite boulders, making it ideal for taking vacation pictures. To get there, you can use the ferry port, which offers reasonable ferry tickets, making it the most affordable and easiest way.

The calm water, backed by a perfectly blue sky and cotton candy clouds, will leave you breathless. It is hands down one of the  best beaches  because of the facilities it has for tourists, such as sunbeds, umbrellas, and a giant plate of warm food. However, this small beach gets very busy, so visit as early as possible.

Look at the Brilliant Architecture in Lefkes Village

Encapsulated by pine forests, the small village of Lefkes is one of the best places to visit. With traditional and neo-classical architecture, stone pathways, and white-washed houses, it is one of the most beautiful places you’ll see. The place is sprawled with the best hotels and restaurants, making it especially attractive for tourists.

Whether you walk down the Byzantine road, explore the Monument to the Heroes of War, or visit the Holy Trinity Church, you’ll have a blast. If you’re in a rental car, you can park free in the public parking lot and then explore the place on foot.

Off the Beaten Path Experiences on the East Coast of Paros

While traditional public transport only takes you to some places, a spectacular way to enjoy Paros is to rent out an ATV and go on an adventure. With your ATV, you can visit Parikia and look at the monasteries, then head to Akti to enjoy the Chrissi Akti beach and the mesmerizing water lined with fishing boats, bringing fresh seafood to devour. Santa Maria Beach is around 30 minutes from Parikia and can also be explored on a quad.

Venture on a Boat Tour To Neighboring Islands

Why limit yourself to one small island when you visit several? A great way to fully experience the Cyclades is to go island hopping via a boat tour. Public, private, and semi-private boat tours are available, each at a different price point. Whether you pick a small boat or something colossal like a catamaran, you’ll get a once-in-a-lifetime experience. 

You can go on a day trip to Santorini , Delos, or Mykonos or visit nearby islands like Antiparos and Despotika. However, if you’re heading to islands a bit further away, be prepared for itinerary changes due to strong winds. Additionally, some of these tours include tasty snacks, while others have an extra cost for food.

Hike or Bike Through Nature Trails

While some people enjoy the peace, others want a pump of adrenaline to enjoy their getaway. For such people, hiking or biking on the many nature trails  is in their ballpark. The Southern Comfort Hike is a great place for first-time hikers to start. A relatively easy hike, it offers harbor views, kitesurfers’ sails flying in the sky, and jaw-dropping beauty. It takes around 3.5 – 4 hours, and you can cannonball into the water to cool down. 

The Livadia-Delion Sanctuary-Telegrafos Hill Hike is moderately complex if you want something more competitive. Starting at the Paros Nautical Club, it takes up to five hours to complete. Due to the strong winds, this hike can be strenuous as you’re going against the current. However, you can witness Parikia Bay, the chapel of St. Focas, and many other historical sites here.

Visit the Local Wineries and Olive Groves

One of the main reasons for coming to Paros is their delicious in-home wine. You simply can’t leave without heading up to the Moraitis Winery. They serve samples of their wines, heavenly delectable cheese, and a very informative tour of the vineyards. If you enjoy any of their beverages, you can purchase a bottle or two to return home. 

Wine tasting is also available in Louridis Winery, between Prodromos and Piso Livadi. They also have a wide selection of crisp white and red wines you can taste and buy on the spot.

Hike the Byzantine Path

One of the best parts of Lefkes Village is the Byzantine road hike, an epic escape that you don’t want to miss. The 6.0-km out-and-back trail takes about two hours at a moderate speed. The 1000-year-old road is paved with Parlan Marble, and the view from the top is picture-perfect . On the way, you’ll see olive groves lining the pathway, along with ancient stone fences that are very unique.

Sail Around the Island on a Boat Tour

A way to enjoy an immersive experience at Paros is to take a boat tour and go around the Island. Since everything is well-connected, you can go anything by water. Speedboats, catamarans, yachts, boats, water taxis, etc, are all reliable ways of commuting. You can even hire a travel guide and pay them a small commission, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your time. To find the best deals, go to the main port of the island.

Go on a Day Trip to Antiparos

A short ferry ride away, Antiparos is a popular destination from the island of Paros. Exploring the narrow alleys of Chora, Antiparo’s old town, along with its raging nightlife, white-washed buildings, and the best warm comfort food at spectacular restaurants, is a dream-like experience. 

Don’t let its small size fool you because it has some of the best things to do. It has everything from the sea caves waiting to be explored to the idyllic beaches, the unique geological rock formation at Faneromeni, and fresh and juicy seafood.

Take a Day Trip to Naxos

Island hopping is a brilliant experience because you enjoy the culture of several slices of land. Visiting Naxos  from Paros can be a riveting journey. Take a local bus from your hotel to the ferry port and then take a ferry to Naxos for the best commute. Once there, you can enjoy their open-air cinema, sandy beaches with crystal clear water, romantic sunset at Portana, Temple of Apollo, and many such activities.

Best Time To Visit Paros

The  best time to visit Paros depends on your needs. If you’re more of a summer person, then going in June, July, and August is ideal since the weather is hot and you can enjoy all the water activities. However, this is also high season, which means there will be many people and swarms of tourists everywhere – especially in August. 

If peak season is not your favorite, going there in October and September is ideal. This way, your vacation will be much cheaper, and you can enjoy the tranquility. The weather in September and the beginning of October is still great, and the sea is warm. However, there might be fewer amenities, and some places close in October.

How To Get to Paros

While Paros does have an airport , it only takes flights from Athens, so you can’t get there by air. Once you reach Athens, you can take a ferry from Piraeus to the port in Parikia to reach the island. It takes three to six and a half hours to reach Paros. The ticket prices vary based on the season and the type of ferry you choose.

How To Get Around Paros

There are numerous options for traveling from one destination to another. You can choose public buses, which have designated routes between villages and towns, or you can travel via water taxis.

If you want more flexibility, car rentals are also available, which might save you money. While taxis are present on land, they are more expensive and can be hard to find. ATVs and bikes can also be used for shorter and off-road pathways where buses might not go.

I was born and raised in Greece. These are the 11 best luxury resorts in the country that are actually worth the money.

• I'm from Athens, Greece , and I travel around the islands all the time staying at luxury resorts.
• Some of my favorite spots in Crete are Stella Island Resort   and ACRO Suites.
• Sani is the best family-friendly resort , and Euphoria Retreat in Mystras is great for relaxing.

Traveling in Greece is always an adventure — even for a local like me.

Delta Air Lines recently ranked my hometown of Athens on its list of most-searched destinations for this summer, so I know plenty of other visitors are set to hit the islands in a few months. And if you're looking for luxury, I've found some of the best resorts in the country.

Here are my favorite luxury hotels in Greece, from Athens to Mykonos.

One&Only Aesthesis Resort, Athens

One&Only is a global brand, but the chain's first luxury resort in Greece is located in Glyfada, right by the sea.

It sits next to acres of protected forests that instantly make me feel like I'm on a tropical holiday — without leaving Athens.

The resort's interior design is unparalleled, with clean and unique mid-century details. It is also home to Greece's first Guerlain spa (a French luxury brand). The spa boasts quiet opulence and offers treatments created specifically for the space.

After exploring the grounds by bike, I like to enjoy a group Pilates class or a quick dip in the pool that overlooks the Athenian Riviera.

Kea Retreat, Kea

Kea, an island close to Athens, is known for its raw, natural beauty.

The island's titular boutique resort is the perfect relaxation spot. It offers serenity within a secluded, remote bay and even houses its own farm.

Kea also hosts wellness retreats throughout the year with local and international experts. And the food is exceptional — the fresh dishes always leave me feeling amazing afterward.

The Rooster, Antiparos

Located on the quiet side of Antiparos Island (Paros' little sister), The Rooster highlights the wonderful rawness of its natural environment.

The resort, which sits within hills and sand dunes and overlooks an unspoiled beach , is the perfect spot for a peaceful stay. Plus, there are only 16 private houses, making it a little more exclusive and special.

Once you've soaked in the sun for the day, the resort's restaurant and bar offer stunning views, great food, and delicious cocktails.

Euphoria Retreat, Mystras

Located in the ancient city of Mystras (a UNESCO-protected area), Euphoria Retreat is a holistic luxury resort that bridges modern and traditional touches.

The pool and spa area are a modern, immersive, multisensory experience. Everything is so beautiful, I wish I could stay here forever.

The resort offers various outdoor activities and retreat programs based on traditional Chinese medicine and Greek techniques designed to help people reconnect with their bodies.

Cavo Tagoo, Mykonos

A resort guide to Greece would never be complete without a spot in Mykonos, and I think Cavo Tagoo is the best hotel on the island.

From the luxurious cave suites and sun-deck infinity pool to the restaurant and bar overlooking the Aegean Sea, the resort has a bit of everything. Cavo Tagoo even offers bespoke experiences through its in-house concierge.

In typical Cyclades' style, everything is white or blue, finished with crisp linen and natural wood furnishings.

Stella Island Resort, Heraklion, Crete

Stella Island is an adults-only resort that's great for solo women, couples, or honeymooners.

The resort's luxurious design features dark wood and bright whites, which contrast nicely with the natural blues and greens of the surrounding landscape. Its rooms resemble the floating bungalows popular in the Maldives.

Guests can relax in the seemingly endless lagoon pools and get a massage at the Anassa Spa.

ACRO Suites, Agia Pelagia, Crete

Stone villas emerge from the cliffs' staggering edge at the luxurious and modern ACRO Suites Resort .

The elegance is evident throughout the resort, which is decorated in natural grays, browns, and whites. The landscape, right on the edge of the sea, is also impressive and unique.

I like to immerse myself in hiking, yoga, and cultural activities during my stay.

Crete is known for its excellent food, and the resort's restaurants are no exception. They boast organic and fresh ingredients from the island and are not to be missed.

Lesante Cape, Zakynthos

In addition to its wonderful scenery, Lesante Cape has traditional but modern architecture, earthy tones, and stone buildings. The resort is built like a traditional Greek village, with a taverna and a museum for socializing.

The food is also a memorable experience. There are 10 restaurants and bars serving proper Greek cuisine (using local ingredients, some from its own gardens) in a fine-dining setting.

Finally, the spa is a calming oasis and a must-visit for a treatment.

Sani Resort, Kassandra, Halkidiki

Sani, a family-friendly resort in northern Greece, is known for its luxurious setting and excellent gastronomic experiences.

The five-hotel property is located within a pine forest, creating a beautiful escape.

The activity options here are endless, with dozens of restaurants, 13 bars, five spas, and many sports facilities. It also has seven beautiful beaches, several pools, and plenty of hiking or walking trails.

If you're traveling with young ones , kids under 12 can stay for free. Plus, Sani offers a complimentary kids' club for guests ages 4 to 12 and a teens' club for anyone 12 to 17.

Milos Cove, Milos

In Milos — the birthplace of Aphrodite in Greek mythology and one of my personal favorite islands — I stay at Milos Cove .

The resort is a hidden gem, with architecture and decor inspired by the island's natural geology.

It's a luxurious and relaxing space, complete with a beautiful spa, large pools at the edge of the cliff, and a private beach.

Amanzoe, Porto Heli

Amanzoe Resort is located within UNESCO-protected ruins in the beautiful Peloponnese region.

I love taking in the endless views of the Aegean Sea and olive trees, swimming at the resort's private beach club, and riding a speedboat to the neighboring Spetses Island.
