While the name Puerto Rico might at first make you think of the Caribbean Sea and distant places, you must know that the Spanish resort with the same name has equally beautiful beaches and an exotic feel, perfect for a holiday in the sun.

Playa de Puerto Rico is a beautiful beach with lots of bars and restaurants along the front, so it's quick and easy to grab a bite to eat or a coffee.

You'll find also sunbeds, umbrellas and lifeguards on site. 

With fine golden sand and tranquil waters, the beach in Puerto Rico is a perfect beach for families with kids and it's one of our favorite beaches in Gran Canaria to spend a day lounging in the sun.

If you're traveling by car, there are paid parking places close to the beach (the price is quite reasonable) but especially during peak season and over the weekend it gets busy, especially after 11 am, so make sure to arrive early if you want to park close to the beach.

There are lots of boat tours you can choose from and it's one of the best things to do while on holiday in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria. You can go on a short 2-3 hours your to try and see dolphins or you can join a more lengthy tour on a luxury catamaran that also includes food and drinks.

This is one of the newer attractions in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria, it's modern, and has many brands of clothing and shoes, as well as jewelry. This is an open mall concept, which also has lots of bars and restaurants, so it's a great place to unwind after a "hard" day at the beach. 

Although Palmitos Park is not located in Puerto Rico, in only 30 to 50 minutes you can get there (depending on which mode of transportation you will choose) and you can spend an entire day watching lots of animals, birds, shows, as well as beautiful plants like orchids. 

Palmitos Park is a good place to visit especially for families with kids, as the little ones will enjoy for sure all the park's attractions.

This is a great place to visit in Puerto Rico if you're traveling with your family and you have small children, as they will have the best time at this park. The karting and the splash area are the top favorites for most kids, but there are several other attractions to explore. 

The Angry Birds park is easily accessible by bus. The ticket gives you all-day access to the park, which means that you can come and go as you please throughout the day. The food and drinks inside the park can be pricey, so you can go out for lunch and then come back for a few more hours of fun.

Since Puerto Rico is situated right in middle between Amadores and Anfi del Mar, why not dedicate a day to each of these other resorts to see how you like them?

Getting to Amadores beach is easy even if you decide to walk there, as there's a beautifully paved coastal path that links the two places. It's a lovely stroll that should take less than 1 hour, depending on where you start. You'll be rewarded with beautiful views of the ocean along the way and once you get to Amadores you can spend the day at the beach or you can wander around, bar hopping and sampling cocktails and beers.

Open plan shopping center, with lots of bars and restaurants, that get quite lively in the evenings especially. You will also find lots of shops to buy anything from clothing to souvenirs, and it's a family-friendly place as well, with several all-you-can-eat buffet-style Chinese restaurants, pubs, pizza restaurants and more.

Discover Gran Canaria from a different perspective on a buggy drive along some of the island's adventurous roads. Marvel at the impressive natural landscapes of Fataga. Enjoy panoramic views of the Ayagaures Valley and its surrounding mountains in a  90-kilometer buggy drive through the southern half of Gran Canaria.

As we previously mentioned, Anfi del Mar is located very close to Puerto Rico and it's quick and easy to drive there, or, if you don't have a car rental, you can just take a cheap taxi or hop on the bus.

Anfi del Mar is a really beautiful and relaxing place, and the beach there is gorgeous, so it's a great place to spend an entire day there, enjoying the water, the views and all the facilities. So if you're looking to change it up a bit without traveling too far from Puerto Rico, Anfi del Mar is probably your best choice for a lovely beach day in the south of Gran Canaria.

Playa de Amadores is one of the most popular beaches in the south of Gran Canaria and although it is an artificial beach, it is an attraction for tourists and residents alike, who come here to enjoy the beautiful golden sand and turquoise water.

You can easily walk to Playa de Amadores on the coastal promenade as we mentioned before, or you can also come by bus or drive here as there is a huge car park right next to the beach (and it's free).

The Maspalomas dunes should definitely be on your list of things to see, especially if it's your first time holidaying in Gran Canaria. 

The dunes deserve at least a half-day trip so that you can have time for a walk, as well as for spending time on the beach. The dunes are also great at sunset when the view from Faro de Maspalomas is really incredible on clear days.

Golfing is one of the top reasons why many people visit the Canary Islands , so if you fall into that category, you'll be glad to know there's a good golf course very close to Puerto Rico.

You can even stay in one of the villas located on the grounds of the golf course, which will be really convenient if this is the main purpose of your holiday in Gran Canaria. But the unique thing about this golf course is the fantastic view it offers, which is really unbeatable and you'll definitely want to come back. 

If you want to visit Puerto Mogan , our recommendation is to hop on the regular ferry operated by Lineas Salmon which does several daily trips between Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogan.

It's a quick and beautiful boat trip and it's much quicker than taking the bus.

Puerto Mogan is one of the prettiest places to visit on the island, also known as the Venice of Gran Canaria, so it's worth a visit if you want to explore new towns.

No one wants to miss the ocean view

What is the first thing you see this morning when you jump out of bed? The ocean? Is it the blue sea laid out on the floor like wall-to-wall carpeting? Is it an extension of waves reaching the harbour amidst motorboats, blue marlin fishing boats, and dolphin-watching vessels?

If your answer is Yes, the chances are you are staying in Puerto Rico, in the south of Gran Canaria, one of Europe’s spots that attracts the largest number of obstinate people? Did we say obstinate?

We sure did. We mean those who are determined to watch the sea entering through the window as they make coffee every morning; determined to sunbathe even in the middle of December; determined to see the first light of day with the sea at the foot of the bed. No one in Puerto Rico wants to miss the ocean view.

Things to do in Puerto Rico

Puerto rico gran canaria – beach nightlife trips.

Puerto Rico consists of one canyon, two small bays each with a sports port. So far, the place has been firmly in British hands, with Scandinavians increasingly discovering the place in recent years. Puerto Rico is located in the municipality of Mogan, which is known to have the best climate on Gran Canaria. And therefore it is less windy and somewhat drier in the winter months than elsewhere on Gran Canaria.

The location is also interesting for golfers, since the neighboring village Tauro offers a beautiful golf course. The beach is not very large, but you can reach the beaches of Amadores or Tauro and even the Playa del Cura by foot on the panoramic promenade. An excursion by ferry to the beach of the fishing village Arguineguin is also recommended. Generally, the sea in this part of the island is much quieter. The Puerto Rico Nightlife is concentrated in the various shopping centers.

Excursions and Activities Puerto Rico

There are a lot of things to do in Puerto Rico. For tourists interested in Gran Canaria, who like to make excursions, the location of Puerto Rico is also excellently suitable as a holiday destination since the opening of the highway. Since then, the many places of interest in the north (like Teror), the inland (like San Bartolome) and especially the southwest (like Puerto de Mogán) are easily accessible from here. Puerto Rico’s activities and excursions are all about  Water Sports . You can go  JetSkiing ,  Diving ,  Snorkeling  and Big Game Sports Fishing. Also most all  Boat Trips  such as the  Day Trip on a Catamaran , the  Sunset Tour on a Sailing Ship  or the  Boat Trip to see Dolphins and Whales  start from the both harbours in Puerto Rico.

The Sports Harbors in Puerto Rico

Puerto Escala

Located on the right side of the beach and is the sports harbor. The exchange school is settled here and the boats for deep sea fishing. Here are some shops and restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour.

Puerto Base

You will find this on the left side of the beach. There are the excursion boats such as the catamaran and the sailboat. The most dolphin and whale trips are starting from there. And you can find some options with a view of the harbor something to eat or drink.

Beaches in Puerto Rico

The Beach of Puerto Rico

A small sand beach, that offers all tourist amenities. Sun beds and umbrellas are available for rent. There also are some restaurants and cafes right at the beach and a small supermarket is nearby.

Playa de Amadores

The beach of lovers AMADORES is a white sand beach. From Puerto Rico you can reach it by a short walk over the panoramic promenade along the cliff. On the path along the beach you can sunbathe, have several opportunities to shop and have lunch.

The nearest beach on the opposite direction from Puerto Rico is the beach at Anfi del Mar the luxury resort. This is a very nice white sand beach, palm-lined with Caribbean flair. Around the beach, there are some fashionable brand boutiques and restaurants and coffees with a really great ambience.

Beach of Tauro

After Amadores beach you reach the beach of Tauro which has been completely redesignedonly recently it belongs to the luxury resort Anfi Golf. If you like to walk, you can easily reach the beach of the neighboring town of  Playa del Cura  from this beach. This is a natural beach of dark sand, as is typical for Gran Canaria.

Leisure Parks in Puerto Rico

Angry Birds Park

The family park, named after the computer game of the same name, is an active park. It animates both small and big visitors to the rage. It is ideal for a trip with small children. The children have a lot of different activities. The park even organises birthday parties for your children. You can also get something to eat and drink there.

Miniature Golf

In the surroundings around Puerto Rico and also on the beach of Amadores you will find several minigolf courses which are partly very beautifully landscaped with green areas. A minigolf game within the family not only is great fun for the kids.

Is an 18-hole championship golf course with innovative design in an idyllic setting. Everything is very varied in this well-prepared place: landscape, obstacles and greens. Rightly challenging and combined with the great view of the Atlantic you can enjoy every lap.

Nightlife in Puerto Rico

There are some nice restaurants and bars in the shopping centers in Puerto Rico and Amadores beach where you can comfortably end the evening. Later at nights the hustle and bustle begins at the shopping centers of Puerto Rico and the Europa Center. You can party every evening until early in the morning hours in the disco pubs. And around 3 o’clock in the morning the party moves over to the clubs.

Europe center.

The Europe Center is located on the very top of Puerto Rico. From here you have a wonderful view of Puerto Rico and in the evening, the many lights turn into beautiful scenery. Again, there are shops, restaurants and quite popular bars.

Puerto Escala Area

During the day you can buy here vacation accessories in the small shops. If you want to enjoy your dinner or a drink with a view of the harbor, this is also the right place. In Puerto Escala there are a few restaurants and cocktail bars.

Shopping Center Puerto Rico

The colossal shopping center in the center of Puerto Rico is hard to miss. Except for a few exceptions, most shops tend to be more typically touristy. In the evening it becomes a popular pedestrian mile for walkers and people who come for dinner. The parties are celebrated on the upper floor at the Disco Pubs.

Shopping Centre Olas – Agua La Perra

Most Puerto Rico holidaymakers don’t even find this shopping center, because it is located in the rather inconspicuous neighbor bay Agua La Perra. It is neither particularly large nor does it offer many shops. However, here are some of the best restaurants you can find in the area: A very good Indian and an excellent Italian and of course also a Spanish restaurant.

Exclusive boat Gran Canaria

Onboard you will be able to enjoy numerous spaces each one different to the other. First off we have the stern of the boat, an amazing sofa for up to 4 people. Just in front we have the saloon area also where you’ll find all the drinks onboard .

As we move to the forward cockpit, this is undoubtedly the most spacious part of the boat with an incredible solarium with space for up to 8 people and a U-shaped sofa for 6 people, perfect for those who prefer to sit and enjoy the wonderful views .

Now we move on to the flybridge , which is certainly the most special part of the boat, something that in a sailing catamaran is not usually frequent, it has of course the Captain’s position, an L-shaped sofa for 3 people, a long sofa from side to side for another 3 and a large mat for another 4 where you’ll be able to lie down. A unique space! From here you can enjoy 360 ° views of everything around you and thus make the most of the views and take the best photos !

The boat has a total capacity of up to 34 passengers, but since we love exclusivity , hence our name Exclusive Boat we have reduced the maximum capacity to 18 passengers (half!), in order to give all our passengers the best possible comfort!

Itinerary of the Exclusive boat

Morning trip.

We set sail from Puerto Rico and go about a mile out from the coast, towards Mogan to see the harbour and caves , then sailing to Perchel where we will stop for an hour for swimming , snorkelling , use of the kayak , jet skiing and parasailing (the last 2 at a discounted rate). Later on the catamaran will sail towards Tasarte , where we stop for another hour and have lunch .

The food is brought to the boat via kayak from the beach. We then set sail back to Puerto Rico along the coast where you will be able to see places like Taurito, Playa del Cura and Amadores.

Includes : food (lunch), drinks: water soft drinks beer and sangria.

NOTE the menu is fresh food from the season and can change without notice.

Afternoon trip

We set sail from Puerto Rico and go about a mile from the coast, towards Mogan to see the harbour and caves , then sailing to Perchel where we will stop for an hour for swimming , snorkelling , use of the kayak , jet skiing and parasailing (the last 2 at a discounted rate). Then we sail to Veneguera .

Includes : Food -tapas style buffet Cheeses, (jamón serrano, salchichón, paté , wraps, tomatoes, olives, cakes, Philadelphia, fruits, biscuits and drinks: water, soft drinks, sangria and beer.

With their “smiley faces” which we all love, Dolphins are extremely sociable and love to swim and play in the bow of the boats.  We are very lucky to have a permanent colony of short-finned pilot whales lives here in our waters. Pilot whales are social whales and travel as a group or family so it’s common to see lots at the same time. Pilot whales also often play amongst themselves or interact with Dolphin & Whale boats.  We can sometimes also see Sperm Whales in the local waters.  Up to 20 metres long, these whales are one of the world’s biggest creatures.

There are over 80 species of cetaceans, a group made up of whales, dolphins and porpoises of which 27 have been seen in the Canary Islands.  Due to the enormous diversity of species in the waters around Gran Canaria there so many sightings all year round for dolphins & whales!

The word “cetacean” is from the Latin  cetus , which means “large sea creature”. It refers to the group of marine mammals that includes all whales, dolphins, and porpoises.

Dolphins are famous among people because they are graceful and beautiful creatures. Their incredible performance while jumping in the ocean and their friendly face have made people like dolphins.

However, probably the most attractive feature that has made dolphins very appealing to humans is their intelligence which has no equal in the animal world.

Dolphins communicate through a language that includes sounds with different purposes, as humans do, as well as samples of behaviors related to pleasure, fun, teaching and social coexistence. That is why some have insisted on considering them “non-human people,” which gives them a little more “special” treatment.

Fabulous experience, surrounded by dolphins playing around the boat, absolutely magical.

Saw a pod of dolphins and a pod of pilot whales close, to the boat. Staff very nice and polite,the boat very good. A trip to tick of your list why over in Gran Canaria.

This was an absolutely amazing trip. Me and my partner went on this boat to see the whales and dolphins and we saw a range of dolphins and there was loads of them swimming and playing about. We also saw a whale and it’s calf.

Whilst on holiday we did this trip twice. Myself and my partner though the trip was fantastic. On the first trip we sat on the upper deck and saw lots of dolphins and a fin whale and a turtle swimming by.

Grand afternoon out at sea with this amazingly huge Fin Whale. Flying fish too. What can I say, wow: just wow!
