My first course flight (Aor-Kul) was cancelled in the morning, and they asked me to board the night flight hence I need to transit overnight for the 2nd flight (Kul-Myy) that supposed to be on the same day. The overnight stay was not provided, (I'm traveling with my spouse, a daughter (5 y.o.) and an infant (2 months old). Hence I booked Sama Sama Hotel at my own expense (fortunately using my enrich miles points). Other than this issue, all services is good.

My experience with the flight was okay. My experience checking in was absolutely terrible. I was told I needed to change my e-ticket number to check in because I missed my flight in PDX. Even when shown the itinerary, they didn't budge and sent me to KLM across the airport. KLM wasn't open until 8pm and my flight was at 7:30pm. Nobody made accommodations in any way to get me to KUL. To add insult to injury, they rescheduled my flight to the very next day, creating a very long layover and did not offer any hotel stay. After this, even worse, I found out later they delayed the first 7:30pm flight to 9:10pm. Meaning, I could have still boarded but they refused to even try to get me on the plane. As a result, I missed a day of work and lost pay for the day. Also, when I went to get my luggage, it wasn't there. It was STILL in Singapore. They had from 5:30pm to 5am to get my luggage onto the plane and they still couldn't get that right. This is the worst experience I've had flying anywhere in the past decade I've been travelling.

Indigo attempts to make you pay for a seat during check in. I opted to not do this. The result - they allotted me and my minor son seats apart. In the interest of making maximum money, they seem to have lost common sense too. Similarly, even during the flight, the crew are busy trying to serve food to those who’ve already paid for it. By the time they’re done, it’s time to land and no one else is able to get anything. Sadly this seems to be what makes them profitable, customers just need to bear with it till a better airline comes along.

I did not like the communication gap existing amongst the staff and the customer. My flight to Nagpur was delayed by two and half hours but it was informed to me on email ( not by W.A. or SMS) when I have already left my home in Baner area. I was painfully detained at airport with luggage when the gate no. 10 was changed to 5. I'll never recommend your flight to anybody.

Seats don't recline, no charging points. New aircraft and very clean. Crew should serve some water atleast.

Paid for seats near the window but given seats right at the back, near the toilets. This location was so noisy with the blasts from the aircraft engines blowing beside. Not a nice one 😞.

Flight was delayed 2 hours, which seems regular with this airline. Aircrew were avarage, friendly but robotic. At check in I asked for a spare seat. Got some stupid response about loading capacity (it was 85% full!) Then passengers behind jumped up and moved to vacant exit rows, they obviously didn't pay for. Waited over 20+ minutes to disembark, with ground staff trying to squash all passengers onto 1 bus. Causing even more delays. Unsafe and stupid! But this is a problem at Saigon airport. Overall a very average experience!

In experience we didn't even get water unless it was paid for. Even Bamboo Airlines provided free water. The flight was cold with no blanket being provided. The flight attendants were not responsive in keeping the passengers under control. I complained about fellow passengers playing loud music several times before one of the flight attendants to action. I will not recommend flying with Vietjet unless things improve.

Welcome to  Ho Chi Minh City – the largest city in Vietnam. Our guide and driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel for check-in. The room is at your disposal from 02:00 PM onwards. The balance of the day will be free at your leisure. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

08:00 – 08:30 AM: Pick up at your hotel and start the city tour including:

• Independence Palace (the Reunification Palace) was built on the sight of the former Norodom Palace.
• War Remnants Museum  which has a vast display of both the Indochina wars.
• Notre Dame Cathedral & Central Post Office  the beautiful structures from the French Colonial times
• Jade Emperor Pagoda  with the peaceful atmosphere &o many stories behind each detail of the pagoda.

Relax and have lunch at a local restaurant.

02:00 PM:  Depart around 1,5 hours through the pleasant countryside before arriving at  Cu Chi Tunnels  – the historic site where Vietnamese soldiers used as a shelter during wartime. This fantastic network stretches over 250 km and is the shelter of Vietnamese soldiers during the wars.

06:00 – 07:00 PM:  Be dropped off at your hotel. Dinner on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Our guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel, and drive 1,5 hours to  My Tho.  We will stop along the way for refreshments and toilets.

• Upon arrival, we board a motor-boat and cruise along a vast network of canals and channels to enjoy wonderful views of the Mekong River, including four famous  islands “Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle, and Phoenix”.
• Stop at one of the floating fish houses, in nets and wire baskets under their house, the villagers cultivate freshwater fish and shrimp – a major export product of the region.
• Cross the River to the other side, you will stop at a traditional workshop to witness a step-by-step process on how to make coconut candy, honey farming… while trying some yourself and listening to traditional music.
• Enjoy what local people offer by hand rowing a sampan along the shady, breezy canal. We will transfer to local transportation called  Xe Loi  to travel throughout the villages.
• Lunch will be served at a riverside restaurant with a Vietnamese 5-course set menu. Please request in advance if you have a food allergy, you are a vegetarian, or you observe Halal.
• Take a rest after lunch before boarding the motor-boat back to My Tho. We drive to  Vinh Trang pagoda , an ancient southern architectural gem built in the middle of the 19th century. There are many Buddha statues including some that are over a hundred years old.

We drive another 1,5 hours back to Ho Chi Minh City for flight to  Danang .

Once arrival in Danang, you will be warmly welcomed by our tour guide to transfer to the hotel in Danang to check-in. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

07:45 – 08:00 AM: Be picked up at a hotel in Danang. Transfer to Ba Na Hills (35km) and take Cable Car which gains 5 world scores to Ba Na Hills station. Stop at by Night station to visit Vong Nguyet hills, The Old Villas of French, the Golden Bridge…

Continue moving up by cable car to the Nui Chua Mountain – the top of Ba Na range, visiting  Nghinh Phong top, Le Nim Villas, Orchid Garden… Experience hill climbing train (first and unique funicular in Vietnam) and visit an old French cellar (Debay Ancient Wine Cellar), flower garden Le Jardin D’amour. Buffet lunch will be severed at the restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will be free for joining games in  Fantasy Park  – the third biggest indoor games zone in Vietnam with series of interesting games: 4 – 5D film, skiver, The death race, dinosaur park… (2 hours). Or discover Ba Na hills on your own.

03:00 PM: Back to the cable car, then you will be transferred back to the hotel.

Our driver will pick you up to transfer to Danang airport to take your domestic flight to Hanoi. Once arrival in Hanoi, you will be warmly welcomed by our tour guide to transfer to your hotel to check-in. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

07:30 – 08:30 AM:  Get picked up by our tour guide and bus then depart for  Ninh Binh province (90 km south of Hanoi). Have a break 20 minutes halfway to relax and experience Vietnamese handicraft products such as lacquer wares, paintings, embroideries…

Arrive at  Hoa Lu,  which is once depicted the ancient capital of Viet Nam, settled up in the 10th century. Visit temples of two dynasties of Dinh and Le with very unique architecture in the old time.

Visit the excavation area beside the  Le Dai Hanh temple . You experience the vestiges of Royal Palaces ground dated back the 10th century. Go back to the bus and drive to Tam Coc.

02:00 PM: Board the sampan boats (2 people share a boat) in  Tam Coc  dock to drift down the river among the villages, mountains, and lush rice fields. Passing through 3 caves  “Hang Ca – First cave, Hang Hai -Second cave, Hang Ba – Third cave”  to get a strange feeling. The boat returns to the dock for the bus drive back to Hanoi.

06:00 PM: Arrive in Hanoi.

Back to the hotel. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

08:00 – 08:30 AM:  starting our Best  Halong Bay day trip with hotel pickup in the morning, you will set out by air-conditioned bus from Hanoi to Halong Bay. The 3.5-hour scenic drive gives you the chance to enjoy the landscape of the Red River Delta and see the daily rural life of Vietnamese farmers with rice fields and water buffaloes.

Upon arrival at Halong Bay, you will begin the most beautiful day with Halong Bay day cruise. After a short introductory talk by the tour guide, you will enjoy a wonderful local seafood lunch on board (Vegetarian food is available if requested). The nearly 4-hour relaxing cruise gives you the chance to discover the spectacular scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage site with its thousands of limestone islets and mountains. We cruise through emerald waters, passing by  the Dog Stone, Burning Incense Islet and Fighting-Cock Islet , the famous symbol of Halong Bay.

After lunch, we stop at  Ba Hang Fishing Village  for a trip by kayak or bamboo boat rowed by the locals. That will be one of the most highlighted activities on your Halong Bay day trip. Vietnam Travel Guide – 7 Days In Vietnam

We spent 7 days in Vietnam and covered three cities – Hanoi, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City . Our Vietnam itinerary also included the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay which is located approximately at a distance of about 180 kilometres from Hanoi city. We flew from India’s capital city Delhi to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam on a Vietnam Airlines flight . We also flew on Vietnam Airlines flights for our travel within Vietnam.

Best Vietnam Itinerary – Vietnam In Seven Days

We flew from Bangalore to Delhi, from where we boarded our Vietnam Airlines flight to Hanoi. Currently, you can fly to Vietnam from Delhi or Mumbai, there are direct flights to Hanoi from these places. This Vietnam itinerary spans over seven days and includes the day of arrival in Hanoi and the day of departure from Vietnam.

Vietnam Trip Itinerary – Day One In Hanoi

We arrived in the wee hour of the morning at the Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi. Immigration was a breeze and we were out of the airport in quick time. Hanoi is the political and cultural capital of Vietnam and there are many Places to visit in Hanoi and interesting experiences to be savoured. We had a packed day ahead. So after checking in at our hotel, Silk Path, we were ready to explore the attractions of Hanoi.

Vietnam Itinerary – Temple of Literature Hanoi

The Temple of Literature is a nice place to start your Hanoi sightseeing. Dating back to the year 1070, this Confucian temple also served as a place of learning exclusively for members of the royal clans. It has the distinction of hosting the first, “ University of Vietnam ,” known as, “ The Imperial Academy ,” between 1076 to 1779 and is located amidst tranquil environs right in the middle of the city.

The Temple of Literature is made up of gardens, pavilions, a lake, and temples. You should not miss the Stellae or stone tablets erected on the bodies of turtles. Incidentally, the turtle (Quy), is one of the 4 holy creatures that are revered in Vietnam, the other three are; Dragon (Long), Unicorn (Ly), and Phoenix (Phuong).  These were erected to honour those who were successful in the royal exams. Something like your degree certificate, but the difference is that these were etched in stone. The Temple of Literature on the currency note of the 100,000 Vietnamese Dong note.

Vietnam Itinerary – Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Hanoi

A visit to Hanoi would be incomplete without visiting the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum , the place where the embalmed body of the legendary Vietnamese leader lies. The mausoleum is in the centre of the historic Ba Dinh Square, where Ho Chi Minh read the Proclamation of Independence on 2 September 1945, which gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh called Uncle Ho by the grateful people of Vietnam lies in a glass chamber inside the mausoleum. The public is allowed inside the Mausoleum in the morning hours between 7.30 AM to 10.30 AM on all days except Mondays and Fridays.

Vietnam Itinerary – One Pillar Pagoda Hanoi

One can take a stroll in Ba Dinh Square and walk to the iconic One Pillar Pagoda Temple which is within walking distance. The One Pillar Pagoda is located in a serene setting and is a Buddhist temple that as the name suggests stands on one pillar. It is one of the famous temples of Hanoi whose origins date back to the 11th century. It was built by Emperor Ly Thai Tong. The structure was completely damaged in the year 1954, however, the current structure is the one that was restored in 1955 by Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture.

Vietnam Itinerary – Indian Vegetarian Lunch

After visiting the One Pillar Pagoda, we made our way to the Maazi Restaurant in Hanoi which served Indian food. There are many Indian restaurants in Hanoi so Indians and vegetarians can get their quota of spicy food easily. It was an elaborate lunch at the Maazi restaurant, complete with Pani  Poori, Paneer Tikka, Dal, Vegetable Pulao, different curries, in short, the works!

Vietnam Itinerary – Cycle Rickshaw Tour of Old Quarter Hanoi

After a heavy lunch, we hopped on a cycle rickshaw and sat back to enjoy a ride that took us through the historic Old Quarter of Hanoi. This area is the heart of Hanoi and connects the city to its roots. The ride gave us an immersive experience of the city’s culture and the local way of life.

We saw locals sitting on low stools on street corners with friends and family exhibiting a unique community bonding. They bonded over cups of coffee, small barbeques in front of them, or bowls of Pho  Bo, the famous street food of Vietnam. As Christmas was not far away, some of the shops were gaily decorated and it was a riot of colours, men and women were busy shopping as they sauntered on the streets dodging bikes and cycle rickshaws.

Vietnam Itinerary – Kiem Hoan Lake Hanoi

The Hoan Kiem Lake is a green lung space right in the middle of the Old Quarter. It is a popular evening hangout with locals, as we found out. The shimmering waters of the lake and the red-coloured bridge that connected to the small island in the centre of the lake presented a beautiful sight as the sun sank on the western horizon. The lake is surrounded by parks and gardens. The Lake is also referred to as the Sword Lake, or Lake of The Restored Sword, based on a Vietnamese legend associated with the Golden Turtle God (Kim Qui).

The Hoan Kiem Lake is just across the road from the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, and hence it was convenient for us to spend some time at the lake before our show began at the theatre.

Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi is part of Vietnam’s culture and heritage. It is a craft that involves skill and a unique method of storytelling. It brings alive the culture of rural Vietnam and its legends and myths alive in a unique way. Water Puppet shows can be seen in Hanoi as well as other cities including Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

In Hanoi, Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre is where you get to experience this unique art. We watched the show with fascination. It was a fascinating fusion of music, skilful puppetry, and storytelling. The group of puppeteers stood in the water behind the screen for the entire show working at their craft. The moment at the end of the show when the puppeteers appeared from behind the curtains to take their bows standing knee-deep in water, was truly magical.

Vietnam Itinerary – Dinner Time

After the Water Puppet Show, we took a short walk in the Old Quarter area to one of the popular Indian restaurants in Hanoi, the Tandoor . We had another satisfying Indian vegetarian dinner, which was very good, before making our way back to the Silk Path Hotel to retire for the night. We had to leave early morning the next day for Ha Long Bay.

Vietnam Itinerary 7 Days – Day Two In Hanoi

It is always an intriguing experience waking up in a new land far away from home. You wake up with excitement, looking forward to new experiences. That is exactly how we woke up in Hanoi on day 2 of our Vietnam trip. We were travelling to Ha Long Bay and hence had to leave our hotel early. The hotel had arranged a packed breakfast for us which we had on our way to the Ha Long International Cruise Port , a drive of about two and a half hours from Hanoi.

Vietnam Itinerary – Aboard Ambassador Luxury Cruise

It was with a great deal of excitement that we arrived at the Ha Long Cruise Port to board our ship. After fortifying ourselves with hot cups of coffee in the lounge, we were taken by an electric golf cart to the boarding jetty. It was an awesome sight as huge liners stood shoulder to shoulder waiting for their turn to sail into the sea. We walked past the ships as our ship was anchored right at the end.

We boarded the luxury Ambassador Cruise which is in essence a floating luxury hotel of sorts. We were given our own luxury room to relax in. But of course, there was so much to see and experience, that there was hardly any time to relax. After a quick snack and coffee, we set about exploring the ship.

Vietnam Itinerary – Sung Sot Caves Ha Long Bay

You can choose to lounge on the upper deck or in the huge restaurant or relax in the jacuzzi. If you are craving privacy you can relax on the balcony of your room and watch the limestone rocks of Ha Long Bay pass by. But if you are the adventurous sort and crave activity, you can get off the ship and a host of activities await you.

One such activity on the Ha Long Bay cruise is a visit to the Sung Sot Caves which literally means, ” Cave of Surprises,” or, “Surprising Cave,” in the Vietnamese language. Discovered by the French in the year 1902. The Sun Sot Caves consist of a series of caverns. We hopped onto a smaller boat that took us to Bo Hon Island. Here we had to climb around 250 odd steps and also descend around the same number to access the many caverns that make up the Sung Sot Cave.

Inside, in semi-darkness, we witnessed the incredible works of the sculptor, Mother Nature. Water had sculpted strange and lifelike figures from the Limestone Karst, creating a surreal landscape. In Ha Long Bay, there are many such caves, however, the Sung Sot Cave is the main one and is an important destination for tourists to Ha Long Bay.

Vietnam Itinerary – Titop Island Ha Long Bay

After we visited the Sung Sot Caves, we took the boat to Ti Top Island . A small island with a limestone hill flanked by a small sandy beach. The beach was named after the Russian Cosmonaut Gherman Titov by Vietnam’s legendary leader and President Ho Chi Minh, after his visit here in 1962. The beach has a beautiful stretch of crescent-shaped white sand that has been bleached by the surf. It is an idyllic location to just relax on the beach or go for a swim. If you are in for some more rigorous pursuit, you can climb to the top of the hill for a stunning view of Ha Long Bay.

We returned to the ship after spending some lovely moments on the Ti Top island. A sumptuous buffet spread awaited us at the Ambassador Cruise Liner. It was a massive spread consisting of Vietnamese, Continental, and Pan Asian cuisine. We had a fantastic lunch and retired to our room for some moments of relaxation.

Vietnam Itinerary – Luon Cave Ha Long Bay

After a brief rest on board the luxury liner of Ambassador Cruises, we boarded a smaller boat for our next adventure in Halong Bay. Luon Cave is also part of the Bo Hon Island . It lies at the foot of a massive mountain. The Luon Cave is an arch-shaped entrance carved into the limestone that leads to an enchanting lagoon.

The lagoon itself is enclosed on all sides by limestone rocks covered with greenery and exotic plants, while when you look upwards, you can see white clouds framed against the blue skies. This is also reflected in the clear and tranquil waters of the lagoon. You can visit the Luon Cave either by yourself in a Kayak, or take a bamboo boat, and relax and take pictures of the panoramic scenes that unfold around you.

After an ethereal experience at the Luon Caves, we returned to the Cruise in time to spend some magical moments watching the sun go down on the western horizon, as we slowly set sail to the Ha Long Bay International Cruise Port.

Vietnam Itinerary – Dinner In Hanoi

We drove back to Hanoi taking with us beautiful memories of our luxury cruise in Ha Long Bay. We reached Hanoi and proceeded straight to a new Indian restaurant named, ‘ Tadka ,” which was within walking distance from our Hotel. We had another fine Indian vegetarian dinner and decided to take a walk before retiring for the night. We found out that the famous Hanoi Train Street was nearby, and so we went in search of it.

We had seen many images and videos of the intriguing Train Street of Hanoi and wanted to see it with our own eyes as we were in Hanoi. After a few wrong turns, we finally reached the Train Street. We were a bit disappointed as we saw a train go by when we were still at a distance from the place.

However, we thought we could take pictures and videos of the place, train or no train. The place has been renovated and has been opened to the public in 2023. The atmosphere was very vibrant with small eateries and other shops lining both sides of the railway track.

We were busy clicking pictures when the ringing of a bell and the shouts of the shopkeepers alerted us about the approach of a train. Luck was on our side, and we were thrilled as a train hurtled past, we could feel the wind created by the wake of the train on our face, as it rolled past within a whisker of us. If you are visiting Hanoi, do visit the Hanoi Train Street, unabashedly, do not worry if it has been labelled touristy or not. It is an experience not to be missed.

This was our last day in Hanoi, and we had half a day for sightseeing before boarding an afternoon flight to our next destination in Vietnam. After a quick breakfast in the hotel, we checked out, lock stock and barrel, and boarded our bus which would take us to the village of Bat Trang, some 16 kilometres from Hanoi,

Vietnam Itinerary – Bat Trang Ceramic Village

The Bat Trang Village by no stretch of imagination looked like a village. It was a small town with streets lined on both sides by shops selling ceramic ware. Inside the shops, it was a riot of colours, as huge vases, cups, saucers, jars, showpieces, and other ceramic ware, with vibrant colours and designs, grabbed your attention. We also watched the different processes involved in the making of ceramic products at one of the workshops.

Bat Trang and pottery or ceramic ware have a history that goes back many centuries. Being close to the Red River, ensured the easy availability of raw materials, and this fueled the growth of the ceramic industry in the village. It was also on a major trade route and this meant the finished products traveled to countries like China and Japan. Today, Bat Trang is a thriving centre of ceramics connected to its roots, but in tune with the times.

After visiting Bat Trang village it was time to head back to Hanoi, for an Indian vegetarian lunch at one of the best Indian restaurants in Hanoi, Namaste Hanoi . The lunch included some innovative Indian dishes, that left us asking for more. From the restaurant, we drove straight to the airport to catch our Vietnam Airlines flight to our next destination.

It was evening by the time we arrived at the Cam Ranh International Airport in Nha Trang . The distance from Hanoi to Nha Trang is about 1300 kilometres and the flight took about 2 hours.

The Cam Ranh International Airport of Nha Trang is about 36 kilometres from the city centre. The road runs parallel to the sea and is lined with many luxury resorts. We soon reached our hotel, the Potique Hotel , a 5-star property within a 2-minute walk from the beach. The hotel incorporates elements of Indo-Chinese architectural design and is an elegant place to stay and wake up in.

After checking in at the Potique Hotel, we drove to the Ana Marina Yacht Club for dinner. A beautiful place on the edge of the sea. We had a lavish dinner consisting of Vietnamese and Indian cuisine. The restaurant also had live dance and music. After a leisurely dinner, it was time to head back to our hotel for some rest before embarking on the exploration of Nha Trang, the next morning.

Nha Trang is a lovely seaside city located in Central Vietnam. It has lovely sandy beaches, resorts, clubs, and adventure activities, and has emerged as a popular holiday getaway for travellers from the world over as well as with Vietnamese travellers.

Itinerary Vietnam – Morning Walk To Nha Trang Beach

Early morning saw us taking a short walk from the Potique Hotel to the beach. It had rained in the night and the roads had a watery sheen. We were hoping to catch the sunrise, however, the weather played spoilsport. But we loved the morning vibes, watching the locals go about their morning routine. Some played football by the beach, while some jogged along the edge of the sea. A group of ladies were busy in their Zumba dance routine in a small garden by the beach.

Dominating the Nha Trang skyline with its distinctive architecture is the Trầm Hương Tower . It is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture and is a distinctive landmark of Nha Trang. The place is a venue that hosts cultural and art performances. It was a wonderful experience seeing this landmark up close in the morning, The 2/4 square is located near the Trầm Hương Tower and is a large open space suitable for community activities. We saw people engaged in ball games, or just strolling around in the morning.

Itinerary Vietnam – Ponagar Temple Nha Trang

After breakfast at the hotel, we proceeded to one of the prominent attractions of Nha Trang, the Ponagar Temple . The temple is a Cham temple with its origins dating way back to the 8th century. The presiding deity of the temple is a Goddess who is worshipped as Yan Po Nagar by the Vietnamese people.

We spoke to the Cham priest of the temple and were astonished to note that the Goddess is Uma or Parvati, the consort of Shiva. There are also temples in the complex that are dedicated to Shiva, Skanda, and Ganesha. We also met a few Cham people who had come to visit the temple. A small percentage of the Cham people follow Hinduism, while others follow Islam and Buddhism.

Though it is not known who built the original temple, later inscriptions associate the temple with Cham Kings like Satyavarman, Harivarman I, and Jayavarman II. The temple was originally dedicated to Uma or Parvati.

After lunch, it was time to take a thrilling speed boat ride to the island of Hon Tre , where Vinpearl Land is located. Here is the VinWonders a theme park, similar to Disneyland. The theme park offers many exciting activities and also has a gorgeous beach. It makes for a wonderful family getaway, excellent for a day trip from Nha Trang. We spent half a day at this park and had a whale of a time before returning to Nha Trang City.

Our saga of eating in Indian restaurants continued in Nha Trang with dinner at the Ganesh Restaurant , one of the popular restaurants in the city for vegetarian and Indian food. The food exceeded expectations as was the cast in all the Indian restaurants where we had eaten during our Vietnam trip.

Vietnam is a country known for its vibrant night markets, and it is a unique experience to visit them. Nha Trang too has its share of night markets. We had a night market, right next to our hotel, and after dinner, we took a stroll through the night market. Shops sold souvenirs, local handicrafts, clothes, and eatables. It was a relatively small market, and we soon left the market for a night visit to the beach and the 2/4 square. The Trầm Hương Tower, the many high-rise buildings, the beach, and the sea looked different under lights at night.

After thoroughly enjoying our stay in the enchanting city of Nha Trang and a good night’s sleep, we woke up ready for our next adventure in Vietnam. After breakfast at the Potique Hotel where we were staying, we drove to the Cam Ranh International Airport of Nha Trang to catch our Vietnam Airlines flight to Ho Chi Minh City. We arrived at Ho Chi Minh City during the early noon hours. As there were quite a few places to visit in Ho Chi Minh City, that day, we straight away had lunch and proceeded for city sightseeing.

There was a lot on the agenda for Day 7 of our Vietnam itinerary, so we had an early lunch at Mama Masala , a restaurant that served vegetarian Indian food in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon. After lunch, we were ready to explore the sights of Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam Itinerary 7 Days From India – Reunification Palace Ho Chi Minh City

The first place on our Ho Chi Minh City itinerary was the Reunification Palace , also known as Independence Palace . The palace was constructed in 1962 at the site of the old palace that had been destroyed by bombing. The Reunification Palace consists of the meeting rooms, guest rooms, and living quarters, of the former Presidents of the Republic of Vietnam. One of the important sights not to be missed in the Independence Palace is an F-5E aircraft that stands forlornly on a terrace. A fascinating page of history connects the aircraft to the Independence Palace and the history of Vietnam itself.

In 1975 a pilot of the South Vietnamese Air Force and an undetected spy flew an F-5E aircraft and bombed the palace, but could not cause any damage. A few days later, on 30th April 1975, a tank of the North Vietnamese Army crashed into the palace, signifying the end of the Vietnam War.

Ho Chi Minh City is a modern bustling city, but it is full of heritage landmarks. One of the important heritage buildings in Ho Chi  Minh City is the Central Post Office . Built in 1891 by the French with material procured from France, the post office is still functional and is a popular tourist destination.

The central post office of Ho Chi Minh City is a magnificent structure that blends European and Asian architectural elements. It was buzzing with activity, with people at the numerous counters buying stamps and other postal stationery.

Standing right opposite the imposing facade of the Central Post Office is the Notre Dame Cathedral , another legacy of the French. The cathedral is modelled on the lines of the original Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The cathedral was built between 1863 and 1880.

Initially, the cathedral was known as the Church of Saigon . It was only after 1959, that it came to be known as Notre Dame Cathedral. Unfortunately, we were not able to appreciate the full magnificence of the heritage structure as it was under renovation. The cathedral has been under renovation for the past six years, and the renovation is expected to be completed only in the year 2027.

The Vietnam War which lasted for 20 long years left a trail of devastation and human suffering that the world will never forget. The war which was a proxy war between the Soviet Union, China, and other communist states on the one side and the United States and its allies on the other, continues to remain a blot on human history.

The War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City is a grave reminder of the war and the depths to which human depravity can plummet. As we walked through the galleries of the museum, images of the futile but devastating Vietnam War came alive in all their horrific forms. If you are at Ho Chi Minh City, a visit to the War Remnants Museum is a must to know about the traumatic past of Vietnam, and to appreciate its resilience and growth in contemporary times.

It was early evening when we finally checked into our hotel in Saigon. Our hotel was the Paragon Hotel in a prime location of the city. The hotel was within easy walking distance of the Opera House and the City Hall and located in a nice, upmarket neighbourhood.

After checking in at our hotel and some rest, it was time for dinner. The place where we had dinner was a restaurant named Home Saigon. The place is located in what was once the home of a former President and has a completely traditional Vietnamese ambience. The cuisine too was Vietnamese, and we enjoyed the Vietnamese vegetarian fare that they served.

Vietnam Itinerary  –  Ho Chi Minh City By Night

Ho Chi Minh City is known for its vibrant nightlife. We decided to take a small walk after dinner and sauntered to the Opera House. Saigon by night was a lovely spectacle, and we thoroughly enjoyed our walk. The famous Bu Vien Street, famous with backpackers and also referred to as Walking Street is also near the Opera House, however, we gave it a miss.

Vietnam Itinerary 7 Days – Day Six In Ho Chi Minh City

Day six of our Vietnam trip was also spent in Ho Chi Minh City. We began the day with an early morning city walk to get an immersive experience of Ho Chi Minh City and experience the morning vibes.

Vietnam Itinerary  –  Morning Walk In Ho Chi Minh City | Nguyen Hue Boulevard

Our morning walk took us to the Opera House , a landmark of Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Hall in front of which stands a statue of Ho Chi Minh, and the Nguyen Hue Boulevard .

The Nguyen Hue Boulevard has the City Hall at one end and the Saigon Riverfront at the other. It is a beautiful pedestrian street that is filled with morning joggers. Pigeons pranced around in the centre as a little girl with her mother ran after them. A group of ladies jived to music from the player that they had brought with them.

The middle lane of the boulevard is a pedestrian zone, while the lanes on the sides are open to traffic. The boulevard is lined with restaurants, shops, and offices. We saw the Ho Chi Minh City Tourist Office also at one corner of the Boulevard.

Vietnam Itinerary  –  Thien Hau Temple Ho Chi Minh City

Breakfast was done, it was time to head out for some more experiences in Ho Chi Minh City. We first visited the Thien Hau Pagoda , a Taoist temple dedicated to the Sea Goddess Mazu . It is believed that Mazu was originally a girl named Lin Moniang, who lived in the 10th century. She possessed miraculous powers with which she saved her family during a terrible typhoon. The temple was originally built in the year 1760 by the Chinese community originating from Guangzhou.

The interior of the temple is covered with murals and has large incense burners in front of the sanctum. Three bronze statues of the deity are placed inside the sanctum. The temple is filled with a peaceful aura and makes for a blissful experience.

Vietnam Itinerary  –  Exploring The Mekong Delta

We then drove to the harbour at a place called My Tho on the Mekong Delta , some 80 kilometres from Hanoi. We would be exploring the islands of the Mekong Delta by boat and the traditional hand-rowed boats called Sampans. The Mekong is one of the longest rivers in the world and is called Cuu Long in Vietnamese. This translates as a river with 9 dragons.

Vietnam Itinerary – Unicorn Island | Thoi Son Island In The Mekong Delta

The Unicorn Island is also known as Thoi Son Island and is located beside the Thoi Son Canal along the Mekong River. We took a boat from the My Tho city Boat station to the Unicorn Island. On the island, we visited a Honey Bee farm and tasted fresh honey as well as honey tea. We then took a round of the island on a golf cart, before stopping at a fruit orchard where we tasted fresh tropical fruits including Dragon Fruit, Longan, Guava, and watermelon. We also listened to some Vietnamese songs from some talented young musicians here.

Vietnam Itinerary – Cruising On The Thoi Son Canal

After this, we gingerly stepped into a narrow canoe called Sampan . This hand-rowed boat took us along the Thoi Son Canal to our next stop on the Mekong Delta. The ride through the canal was a unique experience as the boatwoman deftly manoeuvred the boat in the narrow canal, avoiding other boats that came from the opposite direction.

We soon alighted at a place where coconut candy was being made. We watched the making of coconut candy right from the dehusking of the coconut to the final product. We also tasted the candy and bought some to take home with us.

We boarded a bigger boat and cruised to Phoenix Island where lunch awaited us.

Vietnam Itinerary – Phoenix Island In The Mekong Delta

We had lunch in a restaurant that stood on the edge of the Mekong River on Phoenix Island . The restaurant was aptly named Mekong Taste. The menu was essentially Vietnamese seafood, however, we managed to fill ourselves with some vegetarian alternatives from the local cuisine, fruits, and coconut water. After a quiet lunch, watching the boats cruising along the Mekong River, it was time for us to bid farewell to the island and the Mekong Delta and drive towards Ho Ch Minh City.

On the way back from the Mekong Delta, we stopped for some time to visit one of the largest local markets of Ho Chi Minh City, known as Cho Lan Market . The market sold a wide range of products including footwear, apparel, handicrafts, souvenirs, food items including dry fruits, and much more. The market is a good place for shopping as the prices are reasonable and you can also bargain.

After a hectic day at the Mekong Delta, we had a quiet dinner at an Indian restaurant called Tandoor in Ho Chi Minh City. It was our last night in Ho Chi  Minh City and also Vietnam as we would be flying out the next day. We were feeling a little sad already in anticipation of the impending farewell to the beautiful country of Vietnam.

We woke up on our event day in Vietnam with the realization that our Vietnam tour was all but over. It had been a great experience, and we promised ourselves that we would be back soon to explore more of this gem of Asia. After a leisurely breakfast at our hotel, it was time to drive to the Tan Son Nhat International Airport of Ho Chi Minh City to catch our flight to Hanoi, and from there a connecting flight to Delhi.

The procedure for Evisa for Vietnam for tourists from India is pretty simple. You need to fill up an online form that requires you to upload your photo and copy of your passport after which you need to make online payment of the Visa fees which are currently 25 USD for single entry evisa and 50 USD for multiple entry evisa. Getting Around Vietnam

Vietnam is a paradise for gourmets, and in the words of the famous international chef and author, Anthony Bourdain, “Vietnam. It grabs you and doesn’t let you go. Once you love it, you love it forever.”

Being vegetarians, our adventure with food in Vietnam was limited. However, it would be pertinent to mention here that there is a good range of Vietnamese food which is vegetarian and is great in taste and flavour. In most of the bigger cities, there is always a vegetarian option available. We ate at Indian restaurants most of the time during our 7-day Vietnam trip. Best Time To Visit Vietnam

The best time to visit Vietnam is between April to December. This is the period when most of Vietnam has a dry season.

Vietnam Weather

North Vietnam, where Hanoi is located has two main seasons, namely winter and summer. November to April is winter during which the temperature hovers between 17 to 22 degrees Celsius. Summer is usually from May to October when temperatures range between 30 to 38 degrees Celsius.

Central Vietnam where Nha Trang is located experiences hot weather from January to August and sees rain during the winter months.

South Vietnam where Ho Chi Minh City is located generally has a constant temperature throughout the year. There are only two seasons here, one with rain, and the other without rain. The region receives rainfall from May to November.

Vietnam Currency

Vietnam Dong (VND) is the official currency of Vietnam. One Indian Rupee is equal to around 290 VND, and 1 USD is equal to around 24,000 VND. Major credit cards are accepted at the bigger outlets. However, if you are shopping at local markets, you need to have cash in Vietnam Dong. Some shops also accept US dollars.

Vietnam Phone And Internet Network

Vietnam has a good communications network. Free Wifi is available at most public places including restaurants, and markets. You can also buy a local SIM to stay connected. We found the WiFi network very reliable in the cities, and we also had good WiFi in the bus in which we went around in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnamese Language – Common Phrases To Know

It is always good to know some common phrases in the local language of the region that you are visiting. This helps you connect better with the locals. Here are some common phrases that will help you while visiting Vietnam.

At the moment, the popularity of visas on arrival to Vietnam can’t be denied. It’s considered among the most popular ways to get a visa to Vietnam at present. The Visa on arrival process is simple: after obtaining an approval letter from the Vietnamese Immigration Department, you present this letter and your passport to an immigration officer upon arrival in Vietnam, pay the relevant fees, and receive your visa stamp. But this is limited to people who want multiple entry or stay for some other reason. 

But a visa on arrival is not available for every country. You need to prior check whether your country is eligible for a visa on arrival to Vietnam.

Quick Tip: Make sure to apply for the e-visa at least 15 days prior to your trip date. Because if there are any delays in visa approval you should have some buffer time for the same.

You will have many Flight options to Vietnam from India. The cheapest ones are Vietjet and Indigo, the price would roughly range from 7000 to 15000 one-way depending on your luggage and booking date for travel. Ideally the round trip would cost you not more than 20,000 INR per person. Vietjet has recently started direct flights from Mumbai to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. Most of the airlines fly from India twice or thrice weekly, so you get many options to pick from. With more flights coming in and out of the country, it is easier than ever to get to this amazing destination.

Most international flights arrive at one of the three airports in Vietnam: Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). Destinations such as Nha Trang and Phu Quoc also receive direct international flights. Majority of the travelers prefer their trip southbound so they start with Ho Chi Minh moving to central Danang and North in Hanoi. I have planned my trip northbound, so I started off from Hanoi and Danang and Ho Chi Minh. The round international trip cost me around roughly 15k as I had opted for check-in luggage which is an add-on service for VietJet airlines. If you are flying Vietjet they are very affordable only if you have 7kg cabin luggage but if you have check-in luggage you will have to upgrade your package. Also, if you are flying vietjet be prepared for delays, or flight cancellation, as they have just started operations in Mumbai so they are at the adaptive stage. They do not offer free water. If you want to drink water make sure to take a bottle from the airport or buy one in plane which is expensive.

Within Vietnam, traveling by plane is often the most convenient means to reach far-away destinations. Several domestic airlines like bamboo, vietjet, vietnam airlines offer flights within the country, tickets can be purchased online or at the airport. Flights are typically short – around an hour or two – are usually reasonably priced, but fares may escalate on public holidays. I would suggest planning your itinerary beforehand, just as I did. As we started northbound we booked our first internal flight from Hanoi to Danang and Danang to Ho Chi Minh. Both domestic transfers were booked with Bamboo Airlines which was quite affordable and the check-in luggage upgrade was also at a minimal fee. Both flights cost me around 6k which fitted my budget. The plus point of booking internal flights was it was quick and saved a lot of time. If you are having limited days in hand would suggest to have internal transfer via flights or if you are looking for budget transfer you can always opt for their bus service, but be ready to spend the entire night in transfer. This would cost you hardly 1000-2000 INR per trip.

If you want to save some extra bugs make sure to pre-plan and book tickets well in advance. Also, look for offers on cards and other online platforms. I got good offer deals on kayak.com and Skyscanner , do check them out before booking on other platforms. 

It is always good to hear when Indian currency is stronger, isn’t it? – One Indian Rupee is equal to nearly Three hundred and fifty Vietnamese Dong. The official currency of Vietnam is the Dong. The most popular denominations in Vietnam at present are VND 1,000, 2,000, 5,000; VND 10,000, 20,000, and 50,000; VND 100,000, 50,000, and 200,000.

The best option is to convert the Indian currency to USD and further exchange them with local gold shops as they give the best rates. The exchange rate between the U.S. Dollar and Dong is about 1 USD=2,336,000 Dong. We roughly got around 2,650,000 VND for 100 USD at gold shops. This conversion rate will keep changing at different jewelry shops and cities so the best way is to look for 2-3 options before taking a final call.   

Credit cards are not as commonly accepted in Vietnam as they are in other countries, so it is best to have cash on hand when traveling in Vietnam. Most ATMs in Vietnam support foreign debit cards allowing transactions up to VND 2,000,000 or VND 4,000,000 for daily limits, depending on the bank, on ATMs overseas. When making ATM withdrawals, remember that you may be charged with withdrawal fees or foreign currency exchange fees by your bank.

Money Exchange

Airports: At the majority of international airports in Vietnam, money exchange is possible at both arrival and departure halls. But it is expensive.

Banks: Vietnamese banks will typically be open on weekdays and Saturdays from 8 AM to 4 PM. For money exchange in banks, you need to show your passport and immigration visa to the respective bank executive. Check after the exchange of money for any damaged notes. But you must be sure to check the lunch hours and holidays before you go to ensure you don’t end up empty-handed.

Hotels: A few larger hotels also offer money exchange at their reception for their guests. But make sure to check other options first.

Gold shops: It's a good option for exchanging currency if you go to gold shops that are capable of exchanging currency legally because they often provide higher exchange rates. But not all gold shops in Vietnam are approved to exchange currency.

Best Time to Visit Vietnam

The best time to visit Vietnam generally depends on what you want to do. If you’re interested in exploring the country’s natural beauty, then the spring or autumn (January to June) months are your best bet, as temperatures are pleasant and rainfall is moderate. If you’re looking for some sun and beach time, then late winter through early summer (November to April) is ideal. Keep in mind that during the peak holiday season – from June through August- prices will be higher and many places will be crowded. 

I won’t recommend visiting Vietnam during the monsoon season. The rain can be torrential and make traveling difficult. Plus many of the tourist attractions are closed due to the weather. 

Transportation

Public transportation is the lifeblood of Vietnam’s cities. Bus, train, and taxi networks weave in and out of each other, connecting neighborhoods and commercial districts. The quality of service varies, but it’s generally affordable and efficient.

Taxis: Are also plentiful and relatively inexpensive, although they can be difficult to find during rush hour. Best way to book a cab online is to download Grab, it is the most popular cab app across Vietnam. Though it can be a little expensive during peak hours or airport drops, if you are not looking for a private tour you can always grab a cab. If you’re traveling solo, the best option is to grab a bike, it comes at half the price as compared to the cab fare.   

Buses: They are the cheapest way to get around, but they can be crowded and often make stops in the middle of nowhere. I traveled by bus from Hanoi airport to Old Quarters within 140 INR which would have cost me 2000 – 2500 if it was a private cab. And also opted for the same while exploring a few city sights. The Bus Express 86 Hanoi takes about 55 minutes depending on where you want to get off (in normal traffic). The frequency of bus 86 operation is about 25 – 30 minutes per trip.

Motorbike: The most popular way to get around is by motorbike. Motorbikes can be rented and many hotels and guesthouses have them for rent. This makes getting around quick and easy. But it is important to be aware of your surroundings at all times when riding in Vietnam. I have rented bikes in two major cities, and it cost me 500 Rs per day as rent. It is really cheap as compared to buses too, as you will save a lot of time and it is convenient to find parking spots across the city. 

Trains: Are a great way to cover long distances without breaking the bank. But do not expect some fancy train coaches, it is not Switzerland though it gives the best scenic view while you are crossing borders. 

When budgeting for a trip to Vietnam, it’s important to remember that you can spend as little or as much as you want. However, on average, travelers spend about 2000-2500 INR a day. This includes your accommodation, food, drinks, and sightseeing. If you plan to do a lot of shopping, you may want to budget more. 

Accommodation:  Hostels and homestays are a great option and can be found for around 800-1000 INR per night. If you are looking for something a little more luxurious, hotels can be found starting at about 2500 to 4000 INR per night.

SIM Card: This is a must, as it helps you ease out navigation and local calls and messages. I had got unlimited data usage for 21 days from Viettel shop. This cost me around 20 dollars that is 1600 INR.

Food: When it comes to food, street stalls offer the best value for money, with a meal costing as little as 150-300 INR. Local restaurants are also great options, with main courses typically priced at around 800-1200 INR. However, if you’re looking for something a bit more luxurious, expect to pay upwards of 2000-4000 INR per dish.

Ride: Local buses are very affordable at 5,000-7,000 dong per ride (about 20-40 INR), but they can be crowded and uncomfortable. Taxis are slightly more expensive but provide a more comfortable experience. Expect to pay around 100,000 dong for a taxi ride within the city center (about 300-500 INR). 

Activities: Roughly internal transfer in private 7-9 seaters would cost you around 1200- 2000 INR one way per person. A boat trip in Ha Long bay with activities will cost around 1200-2000 per person. A full day of hiking will cost around 800-1000 INR. A cooking class in Vietnam is a great way to learn about the local cuisine and costs around 1000-2000 INR. Approximately you can pre-book your day tours like cruises, water activities, Ba Na Hill park, cu chi tunnels and more. This way you can dedicate the rest amount for skybar, sundowners near beaches and more.

There are many stay options in Vietnam. First, homestays are a great way to experience the culture and hospitality of Vietnam. You can live with a local family and learn about their traditions and daily life. Homestays are cheaper, but you may not have all the amenities that you would find in a hotel. But there are homestay apartments, where you can have a private room to yourself and all amenities from kichentelle to the washing area to the en-suite bathroom and more. Second, hotels which will have common accommodation like any other hotel in your area. Both offer excellent service, great value for money, and stunning locations. Vietnam Itinerary for 12 Days

There are many places to cover in Vietnam, and it can be difficult to know where to start. If you’re looking for a well-rounded trip, north to south is the way to go. You’ll get to experience everything from mountainous landscapes and rice paddies in the north to bustling cities and incredible beaches in the south. With this 12-days (Total 11 nights & 12 days) Vietnam itinerary, you’ll get a taste of all that Vietnam has to offer.

P.S. if you want you can always include or exclude places suggested below depending on your liking.

Day 1- 2 Hanoi (2 nights)

The first city on the Vietnam itinerary would be Hanoi . Hanoi is a vibrant city with an exciting history, and there are plenty of attractions to keep visitors busy. This city is alive with energy at all hours of the day and night. Due to COVID-19 restrictions you will find markets and streets to be dull after 8:00 pm, but during weekends they are fun.

Start your day by exploring the vibrant streets of Hanoi by renting a bike for 500 Rs per day. Do not worry you will not need an international license to do so, our Indian license would be enough. 

One of the most popular places to visit in Hanoi is the Museum of Vietnamese History. This museum is located in the heart of the city and features exhibits that chronicle the history of Vietnam from prehistoric times to the present day. Another must-see attraction in Hanoi is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. This imposing structure is dedicated to Vietnam’s founder and features several artifacts from his life. The best way to explore these sites is to either explore on your own with google maps, or book a bike tour or walking tour. 

Be sure to check out Train Street, where the trains run right down the middle of the street. Make sure you learn about the timings, during weekdays the train comes after 9:00 PM but on weekends there are more frequent trains passing that street. 

Then head to the famous Hoan Kiem Lake for a relaxing stroll. The best way to get the Hanoi sky view is to sit in a sky bar during happy hours. There are plenty of trendy sky bars too where you can sip cocktails while enjoying panoramic views of the cityscape.

In the late evening, venture out to the lively night market, where you can find everything from souvenirs to street food. As night falls, explore Hanoi’s buzzing nightlife scene.  Once you’ve had your fill of shopping and eating, it’s time for some fun! Check out one of its many lounges.

Day 3 HaLong Bay (1 night)

Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist destinations for the Vietnam itinerary. The bay is known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, crystal-clear water, and thousands of towering islands. Visitors can explore the bay by boat, kayak, or cruise. There are plenty of activities available here, such as island hopping, visiting floating villages, and caving. 

If you’re looking for a more relaxing experience, you can also take a cruise around the bay to enjoy the views from your boat. There are plenty of onboard and other cruising activities you can do such as cooking, swimming, sunbathing, and fishing.

Day 4 Ninh Binh (1 Day tour)

If you’re looking for a unique adventure, add Ninh Binh to the Vietnam itinerary. The province is home to many ancient temples and caves, including the famous Trang An Grottoes. These grottoes are a series of caves and tunnels formed by the Dinh Mountain Range and the Red River. They are a popular tourist destination, offering visitors stunning views of the countryside and an opportunity to explore the area’s natural wonders.

Ninh Binh is also well known for its rice paddies, which stretch out across the landscape like a patchwork quilt. The paddies are a beautiful sight, especially during harvest season when they are filled with bright yellow rice stalks. There are also plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities in Ninh Binh, including hiking, biking, and kayaking. Be sure to check out this amazing destination!

You can take a night flight from Hanoi to Da Nang the way I did, as the majority of the flights which had cheaper deals were post 9:00pm. So we had planned all internal domestic transfers at night time. 

Add a day or free day: Roughly 5-6 hours run from Hanoi can reach you at Sapa , a former hill station valley. If you are planning a budget trip, then do miss out on an overnight train ride via the provincial capital, Lao Cai to reach Sapa. Or you can opt for bus or shuttle vans from Hanoi city which can be a little expensive as compared to the train. The best time to visit Sapa is in September and October which gives the best splendid views of rice terraces.

Day 5-7 Da Nang (3 nights)

The next thing on the Vietnam itinerary is Da Nang . The journey from Hanoi to Da Nang is a popular one with many tourists opting to take the flight rather than the bus or train. The flight is just over an hour-long, and the views of the countryside below are stunning. There are several airlines that fly this route, so finding a flight that suits your schedule and budget should be easy. 

Da Nang is Vietnam’s third-largest city and is located on the central coast. This city is home to some amazing scenery and historical sites. If you’re a fan of nature, be sure to check out the Marble Mountains, which are a few miles from the city. These mountains are made up of several limestone peaks that are covered in jade green foliage. If you’re interested in history, visit the Cham Museum, which contains artifacts from the Champa civilization that once ruled this region. You can also visit the nearby Monkey Mountain, where you’ll find a temple dedicated to Hanuman, the Indian monkey god.

The Han River winds its way through the city and is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to take a walk or enjoy a leisurely boat ride. Da Nang is also home to several theme parks, including the popular Asia amusement park. The Sun Wheel, as it is called, marks the entrance to Asia Park – a large amusement park in Da Nang. Do not miss this. The park also features a variety of rides and attractions, game zone, food court and more.  If you don’t like crowds then Asia Park will be a perfect place for some evening activities.

You can dedicate one entire day to explore the Ba Na Hills- home to the Golden Bridge. The Bana Hills is located about 30 kilometers from Da Nang and is a popular tourist destination, thanks in part to the Golden Bridge. The bridge spans 150 meters across a valley and is made of glass and steel.  The access to this sight is only through Sun World Theme Park via the longest cable car. This is a must do thing in Da Nang, start early by reaching the base which is 45 minutes from the city. This theme park features many attractions, rides, adventure and gardens. It has quickly become a popular selfie spot for tourists visiting the area. 

End the day by taking a walk by the My Khe Beach is located about 20 minutes ride from Da Nang and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. The beach is well known for its clear water, white sand, and soft waves.

If time permits you can take a ride around the roads of Son Tra Peninsula to catch the marvelous views of My Khe Beach and the Hai Van Pass to the north. The Linh Ung Pagoda is the largest pagoda of scale and artistic architecture. It is so famous for the huge statue of Lady Buddha – 67m high.And if you’ve got more time to spare, drive all the way around the peninsula on the coastal road. The scenery is picturesque.

Add a day or free day:  Travelers can ride the bus or hire a private car from Da Nang to Hue , a 2 hours ride from the city. If you want to spend just the day explore the Citadel, riverside and central town by walking or hiring a cycle for the day. For visiting the Imperial Tombs, taxis are available, it is approximately 6 km (3.7 miles) from Hue. The tombs are the elaborate resting places of the Nguyen dynasty, who ruled over Vietnam from 1802 until 1945.

Day 8 Hoi An (1 night)

After exploring Danang, you could move to the next destination in the Vietnam itinerary- Hoi An . The journey from Danang to Hoi An is a beautiful one and can be done by cab or car within 1 hour. The ancient road between the two cities is well-known for its stunning views and makes for a perfect day trip. The drive passes through some of Vietnam’s most picturesque countryside. There are plenty of places to stop along the way, so be sure to take your time and enjoy the view.

Hoi An is located in the Quang Nam province, bordering the East Sea. It reflects the architecture, which is a mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese styles.

The old town of Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most tourists visit Hoi An for its old town, which retains a strong colonial atmosphere with narrow streets and old houses. The trade port’s history has also left it with many temples and assembly halls. There are also several museums, including a museum dedicated to traditional woodblock printing techniques.

One of the best ways to experience Hoi An is to wander through the old town at night. The lanterns hanging from the buildings create a magical atmosphere. A bicycle is a great way to explore the surrounding area, and there are plenty of cycle rental shops around town.

Quick Tip: If you like clicking images make sure you do it in the afternoon, as the streets are empty and you will have a lot of free space to roam around. At night the entire town is filled with tourist crowds, so it gets difficult to move around with a bicycle too.

The lively night market is a great place to find souvenirs or enjoy some delicious local food. Banh Mi Phuoc is a must-try dish in Hoi An – it’s a sandwich made with pork pate, pork slices, homemade mayonnaise, pickled vegetables, and fresh herbs.

You can explore Cam Thanh Village also known as Coconut village, just 10 mins drive from Hoi An old town. Do not miss this opportunity if you are in Hoi An, it is a must visit place. Soak in a dense green foliage of coconut forest on your basket boat. And get ready to go crazy on the coconut water. The package would generally include pick and drop and basic activities listed below.

Activities Included are Crab Fishing, Bamboo Basket Boat Ride, Bamboo Basket Boat Dancing in Hoi An (This will cost you extra 150 INR pp), Visit a local fishing spot, Live Karaoke Session and more.

A number of tour operators offer bamboo boats that take visitors down the river and through the village’s narrow alleys. This is a great way to see the sights and get an up-close look at everyday life in Hoi An. Be sure to ask your guide about local customs and traditions – you’ll learn a lot about Vietnamese culture and history.

Day 9-11 Ho Chi Minh (3 nights)

Next on the Vietnam itinerary is Ho Chi Minh City, formerly called Saigon . It is a beautiful city in Vietnam easily accessible by internal domestic flight from Da Nang. The flight only takes about an hour and half, so it’s a convenient way to get around the country. 

Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and it’s also the most populous city in the entire Southeast Asia region. The city is located on the banks of the Saigon River. HCMC is also known by its former name, Saigon. 

Start your exploration at the city’s many museums, including the Museum of Vietnamese History, which traces the country’s history from prehistory to the present day. 

  You’ll also find plenty to see and do in Ho Chi Minh City’s lively neighborhoods, where you can wander through colorful markets, sample delicious food, and admire traditional Vietnamese architecture.  There are also several cathedrals located close to the market, which is worth visiting. And don’t forget to take a stroll along the Saigon River for some amazing views of the cityscape.

The city comes alive after dark, with locals and tourists alike exploring the vibrant streets and markets. One of the most popular spots is the walking street near Nguyen Hue Boulevard. This area is packed with restaurants, cafes, and bars, so you can easily find something to your taste. Grab a beer and enjoy loud music, dance along the beats and drink beer with the locals. Another great option is the Ben Thanh Night Market, located in the heart of downtown. Here you’ll find everything from souvenirs to street food, so it’s a great place to wander around and take in the atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a place to let loose, there are plenty of pubs and lounges to party in. The pubs are always lively and fun, and there are always fun things happening. The lounges have a relaxed atmosphere and a great selection of cocktails. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing.

Day Tour - Mekong Delta River and Cu Chi tunnels

While exploring Ho Chi Minh city, be sure to take a day tour of the Mekong Delta River and Cu Chi tunnels. The Mekong Delta is a region in southern Vietnam that is known for its beautiful scenery and waterways. The Mekong Delta is Vietnam’s largest and most fertile region. You will see rice paddies, villages, temples, and stunning nature scenes along the way. This area was once a major battleground during the Vietnam War, and today you can visit some of the sites that were once used by the military. 

The Cu chi tunnels are a network of tunnels that were used by the Viet Cong during the war as hiding places, hospitals, supply routes, and bases. These tunnels are now open to tourists and offer a fascinating glimpse into life during wartime. The highlight of the tour is crawling through the narrow tunnels that were used by the Viet Cong during the war. The tunnels are very dark and humid, and it can be difficult to breathe in some sections.

Add a day or free day: You can explore Da Lat which is a 7 hours ride by bus from Ho Chi Minh or 1 hour via flight. Sleeper buses are available for you from Ho Chi Minh City, while neighboring Mui Ne and Nha Trang are just a few hours away by car or shuttle van if you are spending 2 days here. Popular spots are Elephant Falls, neighboring K’ho villages, or Tuyen Lam Lake. The town itself is easy to navigate on google maps by walking or by renting a bike. 

Day 12 Back to Routine

Fly back to your home town, if your flight is at night, you can utilize the day time to explore your pending list to do, or shop at the Sài Gòn Square, it is a must, you will get all trending clothes, footwear and more at this place. Make sure to use your bargain power and be ready to add more to your luggage.

Here are a few tips on how to plan your Vietnam itinerary and when traveling in Vietnam:

• Decide what you want to see and do in Vietnam. Do your research on different tour companies before booking anything. 
• Make sure you have your visa or visa on arrival documentation sorted out before you go 
• Prepare yourself for extreme weather conditions. The north is cool and dry, while the south is hot and humid. Pack accordingly. 
• Be respectful of the culture and customs of Vietnam. Remember that you are a guest in Vietnam, so be polite and courteous. 
• When visiting temples or other religious sites, be sure to dress appropriately. Cover you shoulders and knees inside the temple.
• Learn some basic phrases in Vietnamese. This will help you communicate with locals and get by in everyday situations.

• Drink only bottled water and avoid eating raw fruits or vegetables unless they have been washed with purified water first.
