Viking celebrates start of 2024 river season in europe, new winter river voyage extends viking’s sailing season on the danube river.

Los Angeles (March 20, 2024) – Viking® ( www.viking.com ) today is celebrating the start of its 2024 river season in Europe, as the award-winning Viking Longship ® fleet begins sailing itineraries throughout the region. Designed specifically for European waterways, the company’s river fleet of sister ships, which host 190 or fewer guests, sail a variety of itineraries on the Rhine, Main, Danube, Seine, Rhône, Douro, Moselle and Elbe rivers.

“With its rich history, culture and scenic regions that are best explored by river, Europe remains our most popular destination,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “As more curious travelers become familiar with river voyages as a seamless method for exploring, we are pleased to begin a new season on Europe’s iconic waterways.”

Viking has also announced a new opportunity to call on ports along the Danube River during the winter months with the 10-day itinerary, Treasures of the Danube . The new voyage will sail between Budapest and Passau, from December 2024 until early March 2025. Viking guests also have the choice to explore the Rhine River during the winter season, with the 10-day Treasures of the Rhine itinerary, which debuted in December 2023 and sails between Amsterdam and Basel. An ideal time to visit, winter offers guests smaller crowds, easier access to landmarks and opportunities to savor local traditions.

New 12-Day River Voyage Will Visit Destinations in England and France, Honoring the Historic World War II Milestone

Viking announces its new  Paris & D-Day 80th Anniversary   voyage for the 2024 European river season. With departure dates running from March through November 2024, the special 12-day voyage from London to Paris will commemorate Operation Overlord and the historic battles of Normandy, which took place nearly 80 years ago and served as the catalyst to the liberation of Western Europe from German occupation.    

“Many of our guests, particularly those with family members who served in the armed forces, have a keen interest in World War II history,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “In keeping with our commitment to offer experiences for The Thinking Person, we are pleased to unveil this special voyage that commemorates the 80 th  Anniversary of D-Day—one of the most significant milestones in modern history.”

Guests on Viking’s new  Paris & D-Day 80 th  Anniversary   voyage begin their journey in London visiting historic World War II sites. These include the Churchill War Rooms, where the D-Day landings were prepared in England, and Bletchley Park, the home of the World War II codebreakers. Guests may also learn about Britain’s Special Forces and its allies during a visit to the Imperial War Museum London and experience Gunwharf Quays, the D-Day Museum and Southwick House—where Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower planned Operation Overlord.

After four days in England, guests continue on to Paris to embark on an award-winning  Viking Longship . Sailing roundtrip from Paris, guests may explore Giverny and visit the beautiful gardens and charming farmhouse where Claude Monet lived and worked. They can trace the footsteps of Joan of Arc in Rouen and walk the hallowed ground at Normandy’s American Military Cemetery and World War II beaches.

Hosting 168 guests in 84 staterooms, Viking Longships on the Seine River are purpose-built to navigate into the heart of Paris. The ships have an exclusive docking location at Port de Grenelle, just a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. Viking Longships feature an Aquavit Terrace and a wide variety of stateroom choices, as well as Viking’s signature Scandinavian design aesthetic.

Further, the vessels have a hybrid propulsion system with batteries. They are also equipped for shore power to reduce reliance on fuel while in port. Onboard solar panels further contribute to the ships’ energy efficiency.

2024-2026 RIVER CRUISE AND AIR FARES:  Offer applies to bookings made from April 1-30, 2024. Terms & conditions for select promotions may vary. $25 deposit is applicable to all River itineraries. Special fares plus up to FREE International airfare valid on select departures of Grand European Tour, Lyon Provence & the Rhineland, European Sojourn and Capitals of Eastern Europe . Airfares may vary on other gateways & departures. Airfare does not have to be purchased to get cruise\cruisetour offer. All prices are in CA dollars and for CA residents only. Additional restrictions may apply. 2024: Pay in full by May 31, 2024 or at time of booking if within 120 days of departure. 2025: Pay in full by July 31, 2024. 2026: Pay in full by February 15, 2025.
