Scarlet Lady cruise ship

Scarlet Lady deck plan review at CruiseMapper provides newest cruise deck plans (2024-2025-2026 valid floor layouts of the vessel) extracted from the officially issued by Virgin Voyages deckplan pdf (printable version).

Each of the Scarlet Lady cruise ship deck plans are conveniently combined with a legend (showing cabin codes) and detailed review of all the deck's venues and passenger-accessible indoor and outdoor areas. A separate link provides an extensive information on Scarlet Lady staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.

MS Scarlet Lady (2020-built/2021-inaugurated, last refurbished in 2022) is the first cruise ship of Virgin Voyages . The new cruise line company (2014-founded) has a fleet of all four same-designed liners/sisterships - Scarlet Lady (2020), Valiant Lady (2022), Resilient Lady (2023) and Brilliant Lady (2024).

Scarlet Lady cruise ship deck plan shows 1408 staterooms for 2770 passengers (max capacity 2860) served by 1160 staff-crew (813 crew cabins). The boat has 17 decks, of which 13 are passenger-accessible and 9 with cabins. Shipboard venues and signature facilities include:

(Sun Deck / Sports Deck) Athletic Club (training center / outdoor gym area) with a boxing ring and gym club equipment), raised jogging track (Runway track, red-white colored), sundeck with open-air lounge (double daybeds, semi-circular loungers), triple netting area (overlooking below decks), 10 private cabanas, beverage service (outdoor Sports Bar), foosball tables, swimming pool, showers, Sun Club (Sun Worship Sanctuary), MyBeast (outdoor playground / poolside gym area)

The Crow's Nest (aft sundeck) is furnished with loungers and mats, hosting sunrise and sunset outdoor yoga classes.

Aquatic Club Sundeck (Poolside Oasis and Aquatic Club Bar)

Two swimming pools (including the Well-being Pool - ship's main pool with MyBeast (playground with fitness apparatus)

The Manor (2-deck high Disco Nightclub), Richard's Rooftop (VIP area / Suite passengers only sundeck)

(Deck 7 aft) The Dock (outdoor lounge with cushioned wooden furniture (loungers, deckchairs, daybeds)

(Deck 7 midship) "Ministry of Ground" and "Ministry of Ground Too" - two specialty coffee bars serving Intelligentsia coffee (Virgin Voyages Blend) and made-to-order beverages made by expert baristas.

(Deck 7) Voyage Vinyl (record store), Draught Haus (taproom serving craft beers)

(Deck 5) Redemption Spa (wellness complex with Reception, Mud Room, Salt Room, Hydrotherapy Pool, cold plunge pool, Jacuzzi, Thermal Suite, treatment rooms, Dry Dock Salon/hairdressing, Stubble and Groom /barbershop, Blow Dry Bar, Male pedicure Spa, Mani-pedi Spa)

Squid Ink (tattoo studio)

The Red Room (theater lounge that transforms into 4 different event configurations)

The Groupie (private karaoke room) doubles as Cinema and VIP Casino.

In 2022-Q1 (Jan-Feb), Virgin Voyages updated all Scarlet Lady's staterooms while the liner was operational (deployed in the Caribbean) and carrying passengers. The refurbishment project included refreshing the cabins' interiors by adding authentic artworks, new-theme linens and decorative pillows (with nautical stripes), vertical wooden beams (decorating the wall facing the bed), more wooden furniture (increasing the drawers and storage space).

Virgin Voyages – Balcony Cabin Review (Sea Terrace): Bed, Storage, and Bathroom

If you are considering a cruise with Virgin Voyages you may be wondering what the cabins are like, I’ve just returned from a cruise onboard Scarlet Lady staying in a Sea Terrace (balcony) cabin.

Most elements are almost identical to that of an ocean view and inside cabin so this post is also relevant to those cabin categories.

In this article, we will look at if the bed is comfortable, what the storage is like, the bathroom, the minibar, the balcony hammock, and lots more.

This is the cabin that I stayed in on the Virgin Voyages website: Sea Terrace (affiliate link).

Virgin Voyage’s Converting ‘Sea Bed’

The cabin features a bed that converts from the day layout shown below into a full-sized bed. This converting bed design definitely was a divisive subject when the ship was launched.

When I first heard about the bed I have to admit I didn’t really understand why Virgin would make such a strange choice. Royal Caribbean did try something similar in the early 1990s, it was a more basic version and the idea was scrapped.

The original idea was that the bed would be converted each day but Virgin have changed this and the bed now starts in bed mode and is only converted when guests request it.

I personally didn’t feel the need to have the bed converted. I worry too much about the extra work for the room stewards and I’m also a fan of an afternoon nap. During my cruise I never had the bed converted.

Virgin Voyages Converting Bed by Day:

When the bed is in day mode the bedding is taken off the bed and the edge piece is swung around into the position shown below. The bedding is stored inside the bed/sofa in the white space you can see at the end.

Scarlet Lady Virgin Voyages Balcony Cabin Sea Terrace Cabin Bed

Virgin Voyages Converting Bed by Night:

When the bed is in night mode the white box where the sofa part would go is visible. I used this area to store a few things such as my purchases in the Virgin Voyages gift shop that can be seen below.

The table is designed so that it can be used with the bed and sofa designs. I didn’t really use this table, instead just putting my drink/photo on the white box area.

Almost all cruise ships which have double/queen/king-sized beds are made up of two single beds pushed together. You may be able to feel where the beds join together but I don’t think you’d be able to feel it on this bed as much as you might on some other cruise lines.

When the bed is in bed form you wouldn’t ever know that it wasn’t a permanent part of the room. The cabin looks like most other cruise ship cabins when the bed is like this.

virgin voyages scarlet lady sea terrace balcony cabin

The Sea Bed Was Susprisingly Comfortable

I have to admit before my cruise I was concerned about how comfortable the bed could realistically be. I am happy to report that it is very comfortable and is also full length.

The bed is approximately 2metres long which is the average length of beds sold in Europe.

If you’re over about 6’2 your feet will probably hang off the end (but you’re probably used to that)!

I was a little worried that the bed would feel like a camping bed but that couldn’t be further from the truth, the mattress is full thickness and a mattress topper is laid at night.

You wouldn’t know that the bed converts when you are in it. The below photo shows how our cabin would look on a typical day. I usually wouldn’t share photos of my cabin looking so messy but there were no drawers in the cabin to tidy away things like hairdryers or hairbrushes.

virgin voyages bed review cabin

Does The Bed Have to Convert?

The bed can be left as a bed throughout the entire cruise if that is what the guest would like. I was a bit worried that I’d have to miss out on my afternoon naps because the bed would have been put away but the passengers are in control of when/if the bed is made into a day bed.

I was only on Scarlet Lady for a weekend so had very little time for napping, but I still appreciated the bed being left as a bed. I don’t mind sitting on the bed if I am in the cabin during the day.

At the moment the bed starts in bed mode and will only be changed to the daybed mode if requested.

Do Suitcases Fit Under The Bed?

You could possibly put your suitcase under the part of the bed that is fixed but you would be able to see it all of the time. The bed is also quite low so if you have a large suitcase it might not be high enough.

I’d suggest putting your suitcase in the bottom of the closet if you are cruising on Scarlet Lady. Alternatively, there is a lot of floor space at the end of the cabin by the chair and desk where I’m sure the suitcases could go.

I did fit my suitcase under the bed, just to try it but usually kept my suitcase in the bottom of the closet. My suitcase is a size small and it JUST fit.

Virgin voyages cabin suitcase under bed

There Aren’t any Bedside Tables

There aren’t any kinds of bedside tables for the bed. If you are on the side closest to the bathroom you can use the big white box to rest your phone/drinks on but if you’re on the other side you’ll have to rest it on the floor.

Sometimes it is nice to have a glass of water by the bed and I did worry a little that I would knock it over. It was okay but definitely could have been improved with some form of bedside tables.

At The Other End of The Cabin (A Little Surprise!)

At the other end of the cabin, you’ll find a desk, a chair/stool, and a bigger chair in the corner. The cabin feels very spacious because of the lack of extra things in the room. I personally really like this style as I’m not generally a person who likes much too ‘stuff’.

Other cabins would usually have a sofa/couch or big chair in this part of the room.

virgin voyages scarlet lady sea terrace balcony cabin bed

Under the desk is a minibar and inside the minibar is a ‘time to play kit’ available to buy for $30. I’ve never seen anything like that in a cruise ship cabin before!

virgin voyages adult toys time to play kit

How Many Plug Sockets are There on Scarlet Lady?

On the desk, there is 1 European socket, 1 US socket, and 2 USB sockets. By the side of the bed, there are 2 USB sockets and 1 US socket on both sides. Bringing the total to 10! Amazing.

The plug sockets behind the chair are a meter or so away from the bed so unless you have a long arm you would need a long charger to lay in bed and browse on your phone. Arguably you’d be out enjoying yourself rather than doing this anyway!

If you are ever curious about which plug sockets a cabin will have, check out our full list here, featuring a searchable table (it might be an idea to favorite this one for the next time you need it): Complete Cruise Ship Plug Socket Guide: Search by Ship

No Drawers – At All

I think it’s important to note that there are no other drawers or shelves in the cabin apart from those found in the wardrobe/closet area by the door.

I pack very light so this isn’t a problem for me but I do imagine that it’ll be a problem for people who like to pack more than I do.

We only cruised for the weekend so living out of our suitcases without any problem. If I was cruising for longer I would find this to be more of a problem.

I really missed having a drawer for chargers and items like my camera or sunglasses. Usually, on a cruise, there will be a drawer under the desk where all of these things will go but because of the cabin’s minimalistic design, there are no drawers at all.

This meant that the cabin often looked messy, which I didn’t like.

virgin voyages scarlet lady cabin desk mini bar mirror and stool

I loved the number of mirrors in the cabin, it’s definitely a very photogenic room. The entire room has mood lighting which is controlled by the tablet you can see on the desk in the photo above.

The tablet also controls the TV and curtains in the cabin.

A word of warning: The way that the curtains work is that they are opened/closed by the tablet. You can manually open them but as soon as you open the curtains an inch the entire curtain will be opened. Make sure you’re adequately dressed before you decide to peak at what the weather is like outside!

A Good Sized Closet/Wardrobe

The closet area is a pretty good size with 7 shelves on top of each other inside a cupboard and a place for hanging clothes. There isn’t a door on the hanging section but it does have a curtain.

There is enough space in the bottom of the wardrobe for a suitcase to go and I ended up with my shoes down here too. There’s also a shelf at the top where you can put a few things. I’d recommend putting things here that you don’t need all the time like the pool towels.

scarlet lady wardrobe closet area storage space

I talk more about this area of the cabin in my video review below. I always look at if Virgin have made any changes since I was first on board:

The Balcony Hammock Was AMAZING!

The balcony was a decent size but the hammock was my favorite part.

The balcony also has two seats and a table and I’d recommend you move these to the side if you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the hammock, I enjoyed swinging on it and you’d bang into the chairs if you didn’t move them.

Each hammock is handwoven and it was SO MUCH FUN. I have to admit I definitely thought it was a gimmick before I sat in the hammock, I thought I’d just sit in it to have a photo taken but I ended up spending about an hour sat here.

virgin voyages scarlet lady hammock on the balcony

The hammock was a lot easier to get into than it might look. The fabric bunches together so you just have to sit down then stretch out, you aren’t climbing onto it like how it looks above. That would be nearly impossible.

The Virgin Voyages’ Cruise Ships Have Tiny Bathrooms

The cabin bathroom was clean and functional, but tiny. The view below was taken from inside the shower with the main door to the cabin being behind the towels on the right.

It’s by far the smallest cruise ship cabin bathroom I’ve had but I did like how Virgin have made the toilet seat a different shape from all of the other cruise lines, nobody else has even tried that one!

The actual shower was a great waterfall design and the actual shower space was a good size.

The tricky part came when getting out of the shower as the door takes up most of the main room. I usually get out of the shower and flip my head over to put a towel on my head, if I did this in this cabin I would probably hit my head on the toilet. So I didn’t…

Again there are no drawers or storage space in the bathroom.

virgin voyages scarlet lady bathroom

In the rest of the world, soap is white but on a Virgin Voyages cruise, it’s black! Black soap!

Would I Recommend This Cabin?

I love the design of the cabin and the way that technology is used with the tablet controlling the mood lighting. I also really enjoyed the hammock on the balcony and the number of plug sockets in the cabin was a real plus. That said, the cabin isn’t one of my favorites. I think I’d struggle with the lack of storage for a cruise longer than a weekend and the tiny bathroom was a disappointment for me.

I’ve just returned from a cruise onboard Scarlet Lady, I had an amazing time but it wasn’t what I expected AT ALL. To find out what the cruise was like, and if I’d recommend it, check out this post:

Virgin Voyages cruise cabins and suites: Everything you want to know

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

True to its brand, Virgin Voyages does things a little differently than other cruise lines, and this ethos extends to its accommodations. Virgin Voyages’ cabins sport a minimalist look with futuristic touches, and its suites exude a rock-n-roll vibe with in-room turntables and peekaboo showers.

While these cruise rooms may be unique in the cruise industry, you won’t have trouble choosing your cabin or suite. Virgin offers a reasonable three styles of standard cabin and eight categories of suites, so your choice will be guided by your requirements around space, price and light.

Virgin also does not use standard cruise industry lingo to refer to its rooms. Inside cabins are Insider rooms, ocean views are Sea Views, and balconies are Sea Terrace cabins. Suites are RockStar Quarters. Many rooms can accommodate one to four guests, often in slightly unusual bed layouts, so pay attention if you’re traveling in a pack and looking to save a few bucks on your cruise fare.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG’s cruise newsletter .

Whether this is your first cruise ever or your first with this cruise line, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with Virgin Voyages’ cabins and suites before you make that booking. Here’s everything you need to know.

A Virgin Voyages cabin primer

Virgin Voyages sails three identical ships, with one more on the way by the end of 2023. Cabin categories and design are standard across the fleet, so if you’re familiar with one ship, you’re familiar with them all.

Here is a breakdown of the cabin types on Scarlet Lady , which should be the same across all the sister ships:

  • Insider inside cabins: 105 (8%)
  • Sea view outside cabins : 96 (7%)
  • Sea Terrace balcony cabins: 1,051 (79%)
  • RockStar Quarters suites: 78 (6%)

The cruise line caters to adults only; all passengers must be 18 years old. That means you won’t find any family-focused accommodations. However, you will find Insider and Sea View cabins designed for solo passengers, with a 3/4 size bed (larger than a twin but smaller than a full.)

Other cabins and suites in all categories can sleep three or four guests. Groups who don’t want to squeeze four into a room (and we wouldn’t recommend it, given Virgin’s tiny bathrooms and limited storage) can take advantage of connecting rooms.

Balcony cabins are designated either regular, extra-large, centrally located or limited-view, and your cruise fare will change depending on which you choose. Cheeky Corner and Suite Aft Suites are also divided into Pretty Big Terrace, Even Bigger Terrace and Biggest Terrace classes.

Related: The 5 most desirable cabin locations on any cruise ship

Accessible cabins are available in Insider, Sea View, Central Sea Terrace, Extra-Large Sea Terrace and Seriously Suite categories.

All Virgin Voyages cabins mix a hip yet minimalist design (think IKEA or micro hotel) with tech-forward accessories (such as an iPad that controls the A/C, curtains and mood lighting). The look is more spare than you’ll find on other cruise lines that feature thick mattresses, fluffy duvets and faux-wood cabinetry in their cabins.

In standard cabins, the bed is modular – not only transforming from a queen bed to twins but also turning from a bed into an L-shaped lounging couch. In some quad layouts, a queen bed and an extra twin share the same headboard with a bunk overhead. The mattresses are rearranged on a long platform to form various arrangements; any uncovered portion of the platform serves as a nightstand or low table.

A triangular-with-rounded-edges odd-shaped white table serves as a desk and vanity in most standard cabins, with a round vegan leather stool beneath. It partially overlaps the shelving unit beneath that houses a mini-fridge and small shelves. Above is a round mirror and a shelf holding the room-controlling tablet.

Sea View and Sea Terrace cabins trade out the typical cruise ship cabin couch or love seat for a spare director’s style chair with a faux leather partial back and a padded seat.

Virgin also skips a full wardrobe for a more minimalist closet area where a hanging rod and a two-shelf luggage rack with storage baskets are hidden behind a curtain. A narrow floor-to-ceiling wardrobe contains four slim drawers, shelves housing the safe, life jackets and extra linens and a full-length mirror.

It’s not a lot of storage space — perfect for one, manageable for two and likely impossible for three or four.

Standard bathrooms are also tiny and lacking in storage space. The shower has one measly shelf and pump bottles of Red Flower shampoo, conditioner and body wash. It offers both a rain shower head and a wand. The rest of the tiny bathroom features a bowl sink and a small vanity where you can store toiletries if you move the hand towels somewhere else (possibly the shelf below with the garbage can).

The entire space is tight, even for average-sized people. If you need spacious loos, you will need to book a suite.

Virgin Voyages ships have eight types of suites, ranging from 352-square-foot Seriously Suites (which are essentially extra-spacious regular cabins with slightly nicer furnishings and a much larger bathroom) to the 2,147-square-foot Massive Suite with separate living and sleeping areas, a music room, and a gigantic terrace with a dining table (with steps up in case you want to pull a Richard Branson and dance on it) and hot tub.

Related: Why you should splurge for a suite on your next cruise

Suites are split into two categories — RockStar Quarters and Mega RockStar Quarters — which determine which additional perks come with your booking.

Virgin claims that 86% of its cabins feature private balconies, and if you can, you want to book one of these. Why? Because each Sea Terrace comes with a sustainably sourced hammock that is extremely comfortable and unusual in the cruise industry — and for us, was the best part of the entire Virgin accommodation experience.

Inside cabins on Virgin Voyages cruise ships

Insider cabins are Virgin’s name for windowless interior rooms . They measure 105 to 177 square feet and can sleep one (Solo Insiders) to four people (Social Insiders). As we mentioned above, the Solo Insiders have a 3/4-sized bed. The four-person arrangement is two twin beds arranged in an L shape head to head, with two bunkbeds also in L shape right above. The intent is for the lower beds to be made up as couches during the day and transformed into beds at night.

The room is laid out like a standard Scarlet Lady cabin, but on the far wall, where a window would be, there’s a red, round art piece evocative of a porthole.

Ocean-view cabins on Virgin Voyages cruise ships

Sea View cabins are slightly bigger at 130 to 190 square feet and can sleep one to three people, with one pull-down bunk and beds that convert from a queen to two twins. They are arranged identically to the Insider cabins, except they have a large round porthole window with a window seat on the exterior wall.

Some Sea View cabins come in slightly different configurations, especially the rooms located where the ship’s superstructure juts out at an angle. We toured one of these practically V-shaped rooms, which had one rectangular window rather than a full porthole. The window was on the same wall as the bed and chair, and the opposite wall had the desk, mini-fridge and mirror. The converging angle of the two walls made it a tight squeeze between the bed and the desk.

Related: Inside vs. outside cabin: Which affordable cruise room is best for you?

The bottom of the V, if you will, had a tall wardrobe and full-length mirror. The top of the V was the wall with the entry door, the bathroom and the closet hidden away in a tight corner by the window.

Balcony cabins on Virgin Voyages cruise ships

Virgin calls its balcony cabins Sea Terraces. They measure 185 to 225 square feet, including the 45-square-foot terrace. They can sleep two to four people, but there’s only one bunkbed. To sleep four, two people will need to share a bed, the third bed will be perpendicular in an L shape (so three heads in close proximity) and the fourth is a bunk flush with the cabin wall above.

Sea Terraces share the layout of the other standard cabins. Note that cabins numbers on the port or A side of the ship have the beds by the bathroom and the desk by the balcony, and cabin numbers on the starboard or Z side of the ship have the reverse layout, with beds by the balcony and desks by the bathroom.

Balconies are outfitted with two upright not-that-comfortable metal chairs and a circular drinks table just big enough for two glasses. The real attraction here is the full-size red hammock hung from the ceiling. A grown adult can easily lay out or simply sit and swing in the hammock. Be prepared to come to blows with your cabinmate over who gets the hammock first and for how long.

If you love your hammock so much you can’t live without it, you can buy one on board. The custom-designed hammocks are handwoven by women in rural Thailand and sold by Yellow Leaf, an  organization focused on community transformation and female empowerment.

Suites on Virgin Voyages cruise ships

Virgin Voyages’ 78 RockStar Quarters are broken down as follows (based on Scarlet Lady’s deck plans):

  • Two Massive Suites
  • Two Fab Suites
  • Two Posh Suites
  • nine Gorgeous Suites
  • 18 Brilliant Suites
  • 14 Cheeky Corner Suites (six Biggest Terrace, four Even Bigger Terrace and four Pretty Big Terrace suites)
  • 24 Seriously Suites
  • Seven Sweet Aft Suites (three Biggest Terrace, two Even Bigger Terrace and two Pretty Big Terrace suites)

The Sweet Aft, Seriously, Cheeky Corner and Brilliant suites are considered RockStar Quarters. They come with the following perks:

  • Access to Richard’s Rooftop sun deck with hot tubs and a bar
  • Complimentary in-room bar setup (no refills)
  • Priority access to dinner and event reservations, plus shore excursion signups
  • RockStar agents (i.e. concierges) who can help you 24/7
  • Priority embarkation

Gorgeous, Posh, Fab and Massive Suites are considered Mega RockStar Quarters. They come with all the RockStar perks plus additional benefits:

  • A daily bar tab for complimentary drinks and bottles of wine throughout the ship
  • Complimentary Thermal Suite access at the Redemption Spa
  • Private transfers to the ship or free parking (depending on the departure port)
  • A personal RockStar Agent
  • Limitless in-room bar
  • Premium Wi-Fi on Caribbean cruises, allowing streaming on up to two devices

The suite that’s right for you will depend on your budget, the perks you value and where on the ship you wish to stay.

Related: How to snag cruise ship suites for less

Among the RockStar Quarters, the Seriously Suite is the most common suite type on board. It measures 352 square feet, including the balcony. It features a European king bed facing the floor-to-ceiling glass balcony doors, tall closet wardrobes, a brass vanity, a shelving unit with a turntable and bar setup and a window behind the bed looking into the extra-large shower. The bathroom is spacious with a marble tile look, and the terrace is only slightly larger than a standard one, with the same furnishings.

The Sweet Aft Suite ranges in size from 416 to 661 square feet, depending on the deck and the size of the balcony. The higher the deck, the bigger the suite and terrace. There’s one Sweet Aft Suite on each deck between decks 8 and 14, and each is located smack in the center of the back of each deck.

These suites also have a bed facing the windows, but the bathroom is to the side with a shower porthole looking onto the oversized balcony. In addition to the standard hammock, the terrace features two padded lounge chairs, a couch and a round metal table (meant for Champagne) and chairs.

The Brilliant Suite measures 482 square feet and looks like an expanded version of the Seriously Suite. The extra space allows for a modular couch that can double as a bed; this suite can sleep up to four. Its balcony is slightly longer than the Seriously Suite’s, meaning it can offer the larger Champagne table of the Brilliant Suite.

The Cheeky Corner Suite also comes in a range of sizes, 615 to 857 square feet, based on deck and balcony size. The 14 suites are at the back corners of the ship on decks 8 – 14, on either side of the Sweet Aft Suites.

Balconies wrap around the back and sides of the ships, and offer the same furnishings as the Sweet Afts but with the hammock tucked away in the side corner. Inside, the room has a corner sofa area and a large wardrobe.

Related: What not to do on a cruise balcony

All of the Mega RockStar Quarters are on Deck 15, directly beneath Richard’s Rooftop, for easy access.

The Gorgeous Suite is the smallest at 570 square feet, and can sleep up to four. Its interior is similar to the Brilliant Suite, but the difference is in the balcony. The suite has a double-depth balcony with an outdoor shower and lounge chairs.

The Posh Suite measures 833 square feet, with living and sleeping areas divided by a wall. It can sleep four (the living room sofa can convert to a bed) and has a bath and a half (the master with a peekaboo shower looking into the bedroom and out the balcony doors beyond). The balcony is similar to the other suite terraces with lounge chairs, a hammock, Champagne table and chairs and a small couch.

The Fab Suite, at 950 square feet, is essentially an oversized version of the Posh Suite. The extra space allows for additional seating areas in both the living room and bedroom. It can also sleep four.

All the way forward on Deck 15, each of the two Massive Suites lives up to its name, coming in at a whopping 2,147 square feet. You enter the main living area with a circular couch seating area and a full bar. To one side is the music room, which can double as an extra bedroom; the suite sleeps up to four — that is if you don’t stay up rocking out on the provided guitars all night. An adjacent guest bathroom is ideal for hosting parties.

On the other side, the master bedroom has privacy behind sliding doors and floor-to-ceiling windows. Just behind, the marble-tiled dressing area features two closets and a soaking tub; turn the corner to find the rest of the bathroom, complete with the signature windowed shower.

The also-massive terrace is your own private backyard with a hot tub, outdoor shower, dining table for six, two hammocks, circular couch seating and padded lounge chairs.

Bottom line

Virgin Voyages’ cabins get the job done. However, its standard rooms won’t keep you inside when the real fun is found in the ships’ public areas. Their best feature is the hammock on every balcony.

For more spacious bathrooms, tricked-out terraces, lounge and seating spaces, and extra perks, upgrade to the RockStar Quarters. While you might want to bring the after-party back to your social living quarters, you miss out if you hide out in your upper-deck digs rather than immerse yourself in the entertainment and cozy hangouts found around Virgin Voyages’ ships.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Cabin Review

How do the staterooms on Scarlet Lady compare to other brands? We share all the details in our Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Cabin Review.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

Share this post:

On our recent Scarlet Lady Mayan Sol cruise , we stayed in a balcony cabin on Deck 10. How did this room compare to similar cabins on other cruise lines? Well, we share all of the details from our latest trip in this Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Cabin Review.

When booking a cruise with Virgin Voyages, you will not be able to choose your exact room location. Much like a hotel, the cruise line auto assigns a room from the selected cabin category at the time of booking.

While Virgin Voyages uses different lingo, the types of cabins are generally the same as other cruise lines. You can choose between an Insider, Sea View, Sea Terrace, and RockStar Quarters (suites). Again, like most cruise lines, there are subcategories mostly based on size and location of the cabin.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

Ninety-three percent of all cabins on Scarlet Lady have an ocean view. While 86% of the cabins have a balcony. These staterooms are designed to optimize space and ocean views.

Given we were hosted by Virgin Voyages on this sailing, we were assigned to room 10070A. This is considered a standard Sea Terrace located towards the aft of the ship. The A designation means it is located on the portside of the ship, while a Z designation is starboard.

The square footage of a Sea Terrace is 225 square feet, with the XL Sea Terrace being slightly larger at 265 square feet. The Central Sea Terrace is also 225 square feet but is located midship.

All rooms include rainfall showers, mood lighting, a 43+ inch TV, bathroom toiletries, several power and USB outlets, and a safe big enough for your laptop.

Further, most of the Sea Terrace cabins feature a terrace hammock as well as a transformational Seabed. This Seabed can serve as a sofa for lounging during the day and a bed for rest and relaxation at night. Your stateroom attendant will make these changes. Or, you can opt to leave it in the bed configuration like we did.

Layout of the Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Cabin

The cabins on Virgin Voyages certainly have a unique style, including technological enhancements and trendy décor. While the rooms got a bad rep early on, we kind of liked our Sea Terrace.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

Immediately entering our Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace, the closet was to our right and the bathroom to the left.

Beyond the bathroom, our bed was on the left wall. Our bed faced forward towards the HD television.

On one side of the bed was an arm rest of sorts for the would-be sofa, along with two USB outlets and a power outlet. On the other side of the bed, there was a low table that doubles as the framework for the sofa configuration. There was also a small moveable bedside table.

Immediately following the bed, there was a small sitting area with an arm chair and more outlets.

Across from the seating area was the desk. It was relatively small, with minimal storage space. Though, you will find plenty more outlets and a tablet that is used to control room features. Here, you will also find the mini-fridge and your water supply.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

Finally, there was the balcony, or the Sea Terrace in Virgin lingo. Surprisingly, it was roomier than we expected. It indeed did have enough room for two upright chairs, a small table, and the hammock. The hammock is a great addition! It was the perfect spot to lounge and admire the scenery.

Inside Our Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Cabin

At first, we were concerned that the Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace cabins would not offer enough storage. Surprisingly, we did not find that to be the case.

The closet in our cabin provided ample storage for our 5-day cruise. It consisted of a clothes bar with hangers, a shoe rack (or at least that’s what we used it for), and plenty of shelves off to one side. The shelves also housed the safe.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

Now, there wasn’t a closet door, just a curtain, but that didn’t bother us. Also, the light switches and the “do not disturb” light are awkwardly positioned on the wall inside the closet.

We do admit that the bathroom felt even smaller than the traditional cruise cabin bathroom. Further, there was little to no storage space. Thankfully, we always bring an over-the-door shoe organizer to store all our toiletries. On a side note, the sink seemed really shallow too.

Though, the rainshower and bath products get two thumbs up.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

In terms of the Seabed, we chose to leave it in the bed configuration at all times. The transformational component did not impact the level of comfort, to us anyway. With long days and nights aboard Scarlet Lady, we had no issues falling sleep. Leaving the bed in this setup, we were even able to fit our two suitcases under the bed. A definite space saving hack !

Immediately across from the bed was the television. This is where sailors will watch the one-of-a-king Virgin muster drill video. Honestly, that is about the only time we used the TV.

When it came to the desk, storage was lacking. Luckily, we were able to use the low table near the bed to store our laptops and other electronics.

The highlights of the desk were the outlets and tablet. Other than it, it became my getting ready station like it usually does on cruises. It did include 2 small shelves, one with glassware. It was also home to the mini-fridge, as well as water and a small ice bucket.

The tablet was a nice technological enhancement. From the device, you can control the “mood lights”, curtains, and the temperature. It also controls the television and can be used to request room services like fresh towels or water. While probably not necessary, we did enjoy these features.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

Though, perhaps one of the best features of the Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace cabin was the terrace hammock. While not the biggest balcony we have ever had on a cruise, it provided ample space for two chairs and a table as well as the hammock. The hammock quickly became my favorite spot for lounging.

Recap of the Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Cabin Review

For our 5-day sailing on Scarlet Lady, our Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace cabin provided the ideal accommodations. The cabin offered an adequate amount of space and comfort, along with some bonuses that you don’t normally find in cruise ship cabins.

Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace

As previously mentioned, we enjoyed the 21st century technology, the rainfall shower, and the terrace hammock.

The location of the room was situated in the middle of the public areas on decks 5, 6, and 7 and the outdoor decks 15 and 16. Further, we never had any issues getting an elevator even on disembarkation morning.

If you are looking to sail on Scarlet Lady, we would certainly recommend booking a Sea Terrace cabin. Unless of course, you want to upgrade to a RockStar suite!

One of the suite’s unique features is its fully marbled Peek-a-Boo shower that offers a playful view of the European king bed. However, the unyielding competition for sensuality lies with the captivating ocean view.

The bed configuration may change if it can accomodate more sailors. Look out for cabins we’ve highlighted that allow for more sailors.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

virgin voyages cabin layouts

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.
