About the Business

The West Coast Game Park Safari is proud of their ability to allow visitors a "hands on" experience with exotic and unusual animals. When visitors first enter the park gates, they will be immersed amongst hundreds of free-roaming animals for feeding and petting. They also have the freedom to walk the park to see 75 different species and over 450 animals up close. Visitors most often come away with long-lasting memories of their experiences in our presentation areas. Almost all of the park's animals have been hand-raised by Game Park staff and have grown up being handled by the public while they are young. Game Park Staff believe it's important for all of these animals to assist in educating visitors about the issues surrounding conservation and extinction. We consider these animals ambassadors for their species to you and your family, and hope that you find the interactive experience with our "family" as meaningful as we do. …

So fun!!! Slightly nerve wracking but SOOOO FUN!!!! Looks a little sketchy when u first pull up... u walk thru a sliding glass door to a small "house" to pay for admission, u can get feeding cups (ice cream cones with kibble) & then u walk out the back. U have a small area before u are bombarded with goats, llamas, dear and other small friendlier but VERY EAGER animals that will walk with u trout the park. U walk thru a gate and try to feed the animals quickly because they will grab it right out of ur hands. Watch ur fingers, maybe pick up the small children. As u walk thru the park u get a great sense of the size of the bears, see video i attached. The animals appear to be well cared for, fed & treated with kindness. We are going back again!

Animals are instantly interacting with you. One goat even went into the gift shop and had to be shoed out. We got to pet a baby snow leopard and a large Bob Cat. No extra fees for the interactions. First time I had ever seen a three horned goat from the middle East. I did enjoy this park and the man who worked here that I met, seemed to genuinely care for these animals. He spoke about raising some from when they were little. Of course I wanted to take them all home, but some of the enclosure designs where the cats could go up into tree like structures gave me ideas for my little lions at home.

Photo of Chelby S.

The lions were so skinny you could see their ribs. They seemed miserable and appeared starving :(

Currently researching who to call to get this place shut down. It was incredibly heartbreaking to see these animals in their poor health and way too small enclosures. No fresh water. Feces everywhere. Weeds and overgrowth everywhere. The 3 employees that I saw in the entire park were.......... Questionable kind of people.... The woman taking payment was very direct and rude about how much the park is suffering. It was truly bizarre to be honest. I am in disbelief this place is still going. These animals deserve so much better than this.

Our family of 5 enjoyed the park today. (2 adults, 2 teens and a 10 year old). Aside from the gift shop/entrance, everything was outdoors. We loved the experience and had a good visit seeing so many animals. I felt it was a bit spendy for entry but it's not an every day thing and I'm sure caring for the animals can be expensive so it's still worth it. The kids are already talking about next time we visit! We saw many petting zoo type animals like, goats, sheep, deer and llamas which were really fun to be around. Even while walking amongst the animals the staff kept the areas clean as they moved around the enclosures and habitats. We saw plenty of exotic animals which really enhanced the experience. The best part was being able to pet and hold a few animals up close. Today we pet a young bear and jaguar as well as an opossum and fox. We even got to hold a ferret! We will be back again. We really had a great time!

This is one of the most depressing places for animals to live. The enclosures are dirty and small. The animals have open soars on them. It's clear that these animals are not happy. This place needs to shut down!

Photo of Sami E.

Please do not go here. The animals are in enclosures that are too small and are clearly very depressed. Most of the cats were pacing back and forth and had no enrichment. When you walk in and receive a "cone" with feed and an ice cream cone, animals outside will charge you and are very aggressive. A few of our small kids were jumped on because of it. You use the cones to feed a bear, but he barely wanted to get up for them. The monkeys just gave the wall and don't interact at all. All of the animals behavior proved that they did not enjoy being here. This place overall is just unethical.

Photo of Andrea C.

So much fun even for our adult children! Can't wait to take the grandchildren some day'

Photo of nazera h.

The enclosures, for the animals are entirely too small! I let one of the staff members know that one of the deer was bleeding. She realized she would not be able to get to him since he moved to the back of the enclosure, and all the animals were eating so she said to me he'll be OK he's walking. He probably just got head butted by a goat. She didn't have any idea of how bad it was bleeding. It was nice that my kids got to see animals. I just wish they were happier. It was also nice that my children got to pet and hold animals. The lady in the front office was the rudest person I've experienced in a long time! I would recommend a completely different park I would not go here! I truly think they could do a better job.

I went here with my family thinking it would be a fun little trip to see animals. We bought our tickets and two food cups each. I'm disabled, I have to use a cane to keep myself stable and from falling over. Once I got in I was immediately swarmed by animals. My cane dropped because the animals kept jumping on me and my husband had to grab my arm to keep me from falling, so it's not an accessible facility like stated. My cane was knocked over multiple times, and now the handle has some scratches that are sharp on my hand and wiggly which is... frustrating. I was overwhelmed and started to have a panic attack after being jumped on and the other animals started hitting my hips with their heads, causing me to drop my food cups. My girlfriend had to get them away from me cause I started having a meltdown. My husband was hurt a few times by horns while he was trying to get me out of the area. I got off the property as quickly as we could. My husband went back for a refund since we spent less than 8 minutes inside and the entire time was spent trying to keep from getting hurt. We are waiting to see if they refund us or not. I don't recommend this place if you have any form of mobility aid, a physical disability, if you get overwhelmed easily or if you have small kids, they'll get hurt.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I took a video of all the cats because every single one was pacing frantic in there tiny gravel pins. I'm sending it to PETA. The looked so stressed out and sad. All the people around us in the zoo were freaked out as well. I heard people saying they felt guilty even taking pictures. I thought this was a rescue place but no it's just another zoo but it's worse then that because how small and un natural the animals living spaces are. My 5 year old daughter said " mommy what's wrong with the monkey" I look and there's a chimpanzee not even moving just looked so so sad. Our family left very upset.

It was cool to see but sad for the caged animals. The deer roam free and are pushy for food. But after this we kept driving 101 to head to Cali and before crossing states we came across this sign said "Tiger Preserve 8.00 a person" so we checked it out ( www.tigerpreserve.net) AMAZING!! We were totally impressed! Huge cages, one cat per cage. It was only us and the owner took us on private tour. He interacted with the cats, I have a great pic of the cat kissing him! Well taken care of!!! Plus camels, wolves and other animals to see. This is a must see! I gave him a tip!

The people who work here show a very obvious love for the animals in their care. This is the only 'zoo' I've ever been to where the animals seem truly happy and are playing with each other and showing some semblance of character. It's always best to go to zoos early when it's cool and the animals are more active. The price can't be beat but the pigmy goats can get REALLY pushy.

Click on each photo to find out more information on each species listed. Some animals may not be updated, we're still working!

Bengal Tigers

Bengal tigers are the most common tiger subspecies, but is still considered an endangered species as only around 3,000 individuals exist. Bengal tigers are found in Asia, most commonly in India and Bangladesh. They are carnivores and are known for eating a wide array of prey depending on availability. Bengal tigers are known to weigh between 300-600lbs and males can reach lengths of up to 10 feet including the tail. Fun Fact: Bengal Tigers are very good at and love swimming!

African Lion

Lions are the second largest "big cat" species in the world. They can reach weights between 270 to 550 pounds. They are most well-known for their patternless bodies and large manes on male lions. They are found throughout Africa and prefer open grasslands and brush. Another main difference is that lions are social cats and live in a family unit called a pride, which often consists of an alpha male, many females, and their offspring. Fun Fact: Young lions have spots which eventually fade away

African Leopard

African spotted leopards are the smallest of the four "big cat" species with adult weights ranging between 55 and 200lbs. They are considered a threatened species and are regionally extinct in many areas due to habitat and diet loss. They are found all throughout Africa and in many parts of Asia. Leopards are arboreal and spend most of their lives up in the trees utilizing vertical space and their strength to carry prey up with them. Fun Fact: We have many "black panther" leopards here!

Cougar

Mountain lion, puma, cougar, and panther are all names which are referring to a Cougar. The Cougar is the largest of the "small cat" speciesr. An adult Cougar may reach weights between 80 and 230lbs. Cougars are found in North America beginning in southern Canada all the way to northern Mexico. They have a wide variety of prey and are very adept hunters. Fun Fact: Cougars are the largest cats that are able to purr, with cheetahs coming in second.

Bobcat

Bobcats are very versatile cats and can be found all throughout the continental United States and anywhere between southern Canada and Northern Mexico. Adults can weigh anywhere as low as 10 and as much as 40lbs. They are known for their variety of diet and can take down any animals from the size of a mouse all the way to a small deer if they are lucky! Fun Fact: Their coloration differs depending on their location and environment.

Black Bear

Black Bears are North America's smallest and most common species of bear. There are in fact twice as many black bears as there are any other species of bear globally. They range between 200-600lbs at full size. They are omnivores, and are notorious for being able to survive on anything. From bugs to grubs, to fish, to smaller rodents, and even trash if that was the only thing available. Fun Fact: Black bears can be anything from blonde, to cinnamon brown, all the way to black!

Zebra

Zebras can weigh up to 1,000lbs. They are covered in black and white stripes which run all over their bodies. Many times Zebras will live in small groups, but they have been known to live in groups up to 20. Their stripes make them stand out when alone, but while in a group it makes predators unable to tell individuals apart and often won't attack a group. Fun Fact: Zebras love black and white stripes, and will often stand next to a striped wall if available.

Emu

Emus are the largest bird that are native to Australia. The Ostrich is the only larger bird in the world. Emus can reach heights of up to 6.6 feet. They are known to run as fast as 31 mph. They use their long legs and claws as predatory and defense mechanisms. Fun Fact: The male Emu does most of the incubation of the eggs and nurtures the young.

Red Fox

Red foxes are the largest of the true foxes and are the most widespread member of Carnivora, found across the Northern Hemisphere. They are actually considered an invasive species. They often travel in family groups and consist of mated pairs and their young. They often weigh from 5 to 30 lbs at max and their tail makes up 70% of their body length. Fun Fact: Their melanistic gene results in the silver fox coloration.

Capybaras

Capybaras are around two feet tall. They are found in Central and South America and prefer to live around riverbanks, ponds, marshes, and anywhere else that standing water is available. They are incredibly vocal animals and use many sounds such as chirps, barks, whistles, and huffs. They often sound like a guinea pig. Fun Fact: Their eyes, nose, and ears are toward the top of their heads so they can swim like hippos!

WildCat Ridge Sanctuary

Visiting West Coast Game Park

An investigative report by tiffany lopez, wcr operations manager.

This past weekend me and Chris had the opportunity to drive down to Bandon, OR and go to West Coast Game Park Safari. Not to enjoy a good time or vacation but to get some important information and footage of the parks now illegal activities of exploiting big cats. Now that the Big Cat Public Safety act has passed, it is now illegal for exhibitors to allow direct contact with cubs. West Coast Game Park has continued to allow the public to interact and ‘pet and play‘ with big cat cubs along with other species at the park, so we decided to see for ourselves.

As soon as we walked in to pay we were greeted by a lady at the front desk, without hesitation the first words out of her mouth were that their animal interactions for today were going to be a Black Jaguar cub and Syrian Brown Bear cub. I asked what time they were going to be coming out for those interactions….she told me EVERY 30 min. It was shocking to hear that these animals would be subjected to interactions with the public EVERY 30 minutes.

fox at West Coast Game Park

As we walked further into the park the first thing that caught my eye was 3 pacing big cats…. A male lion, black leopard, and spotted leopard. Their enclosures were laid with gravel and cement, The male lion was in an enclosure that seemed to be made to house arboreal cats, with a lot of vertical space and little ground space. All the cats that were on display that we saw were of younger age between 1-6 years old. You may not think anything of that, but big cats in captivity can live from 15-20 years. These cats that were housed on display were most definitely their ‘pet and play’ cats at the beginning of their stay here at the game park…. But when they get too old or need to bring in more babies to “play” with the public, where do the older cats go? The cats we saw on display included a caracal, 2 Siberian lynx, 1 female lion, 2 male lions, 1 tiger, 1 spotted leopard, 1 black leopard, and 1 black jaguar cub. Again they have been doing this for over fifty years…. Or so they say. They should have a lot older cats if they are caring for them properly. They are most likely being sold to private owners or breeders to continue this inhumane cycle.

jaguar cub at West Coast Game Park

As Betty was on her way back in, she stopped and started suckling along the back bench. Her trainer was trying to get her to come into the back area by pulling her on the chain but Betty wasn’t wanting to go back there just yet. She started swinging her paws and pulling back and then continued to suckle the bench, her trainer offered her another bottle to get her to follow her back in again. How many bottles per day are they going through with these guys? That's a lot of unnecessary formula these cubs are ingesting just to entertain the public.

donkey at West Coast Game Park

As we continued to make our way through the back of the park, we encountered a miniature donkey that brought tears to my eyes. This poor donkey could barely walk, his hooves were in terrible shape and his legs and whole back end were matted with feces. I couldn’t control my emotions after seeing this poor animal. I tried so hard to stop crying, but tears just kept coming. We also witnessed a peccary that was limping out in its yard, and as we looked a little closer its front right hoof had grown out extremely long to the point where the pig was not walking normally and in obvious pain.

There were so many other things that I could list that were wrong with this place. So many unsafe areas for the public and for animals. Extension cords in the public's and animals pathway, broken fencing, latches to animal areas not locked and accessible by the public, thin wooden doors that were access points into big cat buildings, unlocked doors into animal buildings….this list goes on.

The livestock animals were clearly breeding uncontrollably and there were no hand washing stations for the public after petting any of the animals, not even hand sanitizer. This whole facility is a public health issue and should have been shut down years ago. It promotes the selling and breeding of exotic animals and contributes to the wild animal crisis that we have here in the states.

Friends and family I ask that you do not support this facility or any facility like it and educate yourselves before visiting any roadside attraction such as this one.
