Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Fairway Woods Review

James Miles

With the M3 line of clubs, Wilson Staff is pushing the boundaries of tradition and everything they have done in recent times to bring the brand back into the forefront of golfer’s minds. By focusing on morphing feel and control into a package that looks good, performs, and offers an incredible amount of adjustability, Wilson Staff plans allow for easily tuning the club to the player.

Wilson Staff on the M3 Fairway Woods:

The new adjustable FG Tour M3 fairway woods feature Multi Fit System technology that allows better golfers to adjust both the loft and the sole weight for optimized trajectory and increased club head speeds.

Great off the tee, in the fairway or from the rough, the FG Tour M3 fairway woods have been engineered to perform for the Feel (F) and Control (C) players.

Specifications and Options:

Technology Spotlight:

The M3 line of woods and hybrids is Wilson Staff’s first foray into adjustable golf clubs, and rather than simply providing a few loft options they have immersed themselves into creating an incredible amount of performance customization for each and every user. The idea was to create a more player’s style line of clubs with the M3’s in order to focus in adding as much “Feel” and “Control” as they could (of their F-C-D system) compared last year’s D100 lineup, which fell more in line solely with the “Distance” category. In order to accomplish this, Wilson Staff knew they would need a variety of weight and loft options, which they are referring to as their “Multi-Fit System Technology”.

Multi-Fit System Technology

  • Loft Adjustability

The M3 fairway is offered in three different base lofts (13.5, 15, and 17 degree) and each features six separate loft settings in half degree increments. Additionally, the face angle actually opens as the loft setting decreases on the club, but this varies depending on the base loft option. However, it is worth mentioning that Wilson Staff has also incorporated their “NSD” or neutral sole design in order to allow the clubs to sit neutral at address when grounded, no matter the loft setting.

  • Weight Adjustability

Altering the loft of a club is obviously the quickest way to impact the launch angle the user is seeing, but Wilson Staff’s R&D department also understood that the specific positioning and change of interchangeable weights on the club can also have a significant impact on the overall ball-speed, flight, and distance a user sees. Wilson is adamant on allowing users to find “the right light”. The M3 woods and hybrids include a full kit that includes three different screw weights, though the clubs come set-up with the 7g “right light” option, there are also 3g “ultra light” and 11g “traditional” screws.

Aesthetics:

The M3 fairway is an aesthetically streamlined and simple overall design. The matte grey crown in contrast with the gloss black PVD finish on the remainder of the head allows the shape and curves to be the focus rather than excess flash or unnecessary graphics. In fact, the only additional color on the head belongs to the gold paintfill used to accentuate the engraving on the sole of the club. Add in the clean topline, black face, as well as the grey RIP Phenom shaft, and few fairways out there look this clean.

As nice as all of the finish and paint are, the actual head is what garners the most attention. It is definitely smaller than the majority of fairway woods today, and by focusing on “Feel” and “Control” the design leans more towards a player’s profile with a footprint more akin to fairways of the past more so than miniature drivers. Even with the smaller size, the head maintains a confidence-inspiring look thanks to a face with some decent depth to it.

Overall Performance:

During testing the M3 fairway was utilized in a variety of settings and situations in order to get a complete feel for its overall capabilities. The club tested was the 17-degree fairway paired with the stock Aldila RIP Phenom 65, and it was used in a variety of loft and weight settings.

The M3 fairway not only has classic looks and lines, but it also has a sound that is equally such. At impact there is a deep, solid tone which matches perfectly the feeling of the ball off of the face. The lack of metallic tendencies is a departure from what was experienced with the driver, and though the sound did change with weight alterations like the driver, it did not become a harsher or displeasing audible feedback. Even with the deeper tone there was a noticeable difference on misses across the face both audibly and through vibrations.

  • Adjustability/Ball-Flight

The M3 fairway offers a significant amount of adjustability in terms of both launch and weight, which was Wilson Staff’s main focus in their foray into the adjustable club market. The details of what each different adjustment (weight and loft) does is further discussed in the Technology Spotlight earlier in the article, but it needs to be noted that the ease of use of both aspects is well done and simple to understand. Plus, the inclusion of the weight kit, wrench, and manual with each club in the M3 line is nice to see in an era of weights typically needing to be purchased as “extras”.

The main method of adjustability is of course through the hosel system, which each of the fairway models will set to 6 different lofts, all in half-degree increments. The 17-degree model that was reviewed will actually range from 16 to 19 and each loft change was noticeable at address by the amount of face seen behind the ball and the ball flight witnessed. In its base 17-degree setting, the combination of the M3 and the RIP Phenom 65 proved to launch the ball significantly well off of the tee and the deck with a mid-high overall flight. Worth noting here however, the hosel is definitely larger than what we have seen in most adjustable clubs, and as such the eyes will naturally drift towards that initially. It doesn’t look bad; it is just noticeably thicker in overall circumference.

The highlight of the adjustability features in the M3 line though is the different weights.

Wilson Staff’s R&D believes the key to properly tuning the performance and getting the most out of clubs is in finding “the right light” to maximize ball speed and launch angle. Time spent on a monitor to record ball speed differences with the three different weights (3g, 7g, 11g) showed a definite change. It is important to keep in mind that every golfer is different and therefore Wilson emphasizes that the weight system is not one size fits all. For this reviewer, the best results were seen with the standard 7g weight. Comparatively, the heavier weight generated more ball speed and dropped launch, while the 3g weight decreased ball speed and increased launch. Although the results of what is the best fit may vary from user to user, there is no doubt after testing that the weights most certainly do result in performance differences.

  • Distance/Accuracy

With a smaller footprint and emphasis on the “Feel” and “Control” of Wilson’s F-C-D system as it pertains to distance and accuracy, the M3 fairway is an interesting club. In fact, it showed that it is among the longer fairway woods tested this year off the tee, but especially off of the deck. With the launch angles that it managed and the ball speeds that it maintained throughout testing, a variety of users across skill levels all saw solid results when it came to distance, much of which is undoubtedly thanks to the variable face thickness Wilson built into the design. As for accuracy, the more consistent swings pay the highest dividends, as although the depth of the face definitely allows for some range of forgiveness, it is definitely more of a players club. Heel and toe strikes showed an average loss of distance and ball speed, but maintained a solid overall accuracy/dispersion ratio.

Parting Thoughts:

The M3 fairway may very well be the standout of Wilson Staff’s entire M3 lineup of clubs as far as all-around performance is concerned. It takes advantage of the multitude of adjustability options and combines it with a well-designed head capable of extremely solid numbers. The direction that Wilson has taken this year is a bold one, and in the case of the M3 fairway the boldness is well merited and hopefully is a sign of things to come from them as a company.

The M3 fairway wood carries an MSRP of $219.99 and includes the Multi-Fit weight kit. More information on this and the rest of the M3 lineup can be found at Wilson’s website, www.wilson.com .

Wilson Staff’s new FG Tour M3 Driver, Fairway Woods, Hybrids and Irons

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Wilson Staff’s newest line of equipment, the FG Tour M3, for the first time offers adjustable features in a Wilson Staff driver, fairway wood and hybrid.

The company’s previous line of equipment, the D100 series, was tailored to golfers seeking distance. But the FG Tour M3 is aimed at better players who are often more concerned with looks and feel.

“Wilson Staff is dedicated to helping golfers play their best and having custom fit, personalized equipment is the best way to make that happen,” said Michael Vrska, global director of R&D for Wilson Staff. “We believe strongly in adjustability, especially for what we identify as a feel player, so that trajectory can be optimized and ball speed can be maximized.”

FG Tour M3 Driver

WS_FG_Tour_M3_Driver_Hero

The FG Tour M3 driver comes set at 9.5 degrees, but its adjustable hosel can adjust loft from 8.5 to 11.5 degrees in 0.5-degree increments. The deep-faced 460-cubic-centimeter head also has an adjustable sole weight to help golfers tune the swingweight of the club.

Like the FG Tour M3 fairway woods and hybrids, the driver has what Wilson calls an “Iced Matte Painted Crown” and a black PVD finish. The driver head is manufactured with a variable thickness face that maximizes CT, as well as a tour-preferred pear shape that makes the head look compact at address.

Price: $349.99 Stock shafts: Aldila RIP Phenom 50, Aldila RIP Phenom NL 60

FG Tour M3 Fairway Woods

WS_FG_Tour_M3_FW_Hero

Like the FG Tour M3 driver, Wilson Staff’s new fairway woods have a removable sole weight, as well as an adjustable hosel with a 2-degree range of adjustability. The heads are available in three stock lofts, 13.5, 15 and 17.5 degrees, which adjust in 0.5 degree increments to give golfers the ability to play a Wilson Staff fairway woods that measures anywhere from 12.5 to 19 degrees.

Unlike the F3 Tour M3 driver, the crown has no alignment markings, offering the clean, glare-free look prefered by purists.

Price:  $219.99 Stock shaft: Aldila RIP Phenom 65

FG Tour M3 Hybrids

WS_FG_Tour_M3_Hybrid_Skirt

The FG Tour M3 hybrids complement the Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 irons, offering a clean, compact look and three stock lofts (17, 21 and 23 degrees) to help golfers fill the gap between their shortest wood and longest iron. Like the rest of the wood lineup, they have a removable sole weight and an adjustable hosel, which offers the same 2-degree range of adjustability (in 0.5-degree increments) as the FG Tour M3 fairway woods.

Price:  $199.99 Stock shaft: Aldila RIP Phenom 85

A multi-system pouch will be included with every driver, fairway wood or hybrid purchase. Each pouch will contain an adjustability wrench, as well as 3-gram and 11-gram adjustable sole weights (the heads come with the 7-gram weight already installed).

FG Tour M3 Forged Irons

WS_FG_Tour_M3_Iron_Back_Hero

Wilson’s FG Tour M3 irons are forged from 8620 steel and have a matte black PVD finish. Their progressive cavity design moves weight lower and away from the center of the face in the long irons, which helps increase forgiveness and provides a higher launch. The short irons have a center of gravity that is higher in the head and closer to the middle of the face to provide a more penetrating flight and workability.

The irons have thin toplines throughout the set, giving them the compact look that better golfers expect from a Wilson Staff iron.

Price: $799 with steel, $899 with graphite Stock shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold XP (Steel), Aldila RIP Phenom 95 (Graphite)

Click here to see in-hand photos of the irons.

The Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 lineup will be available at retail in January 2014.

I currently own the driver , 3 wood , 5 wood , and 23 hybrid and love them til death do us part ! Just as amazing is the limited edition M3 staff bag (budget golf.com). After 4 amazing years my Staff DI-9’s are bring replaced with the M3’s ! Also adding the 19 hybrid (both due in monday !!!) . Hit the irons at Edwin Watts and didnt loose distance over my DI9’s , I gained distance considering the difference in lofts club to club (7 iron) and dispersion was consistant with the C100 . I will post some results later after I take them out on the course. Wilson Staffer for life ! Get on the Staff or feel the shaft ! Seriously !

I ordered the entire set, the phenom shafts are great, and the irons were hot. I hit them all at the PGA show and loved them. I hit every new iron there and I liked these the best. I am a 8 handicap and plan on reaching 5 by summer with these.

Bought a Shockwave driver sept 2012, but the clubhead cracked so I payed 75 euro extra and got a D-100 (sept2013) instead, this one crack also. Now Wilson UK says warrantee has expired because the initial deal was 2 years ago.. bad form! Spend some more on quality. Wilson feels great but cheap will cost you in the end.

two cracked heads? Your swing speed must be very high. In order to slow yourself down, I would opt out of the stock shafts and go for something a little heavier, 60-70 grams, and a firmer tip. This will slow down your swing to a controllable level and really get your ball speed up.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Jun 5, 2014 at 4:06 pm

Agreed. It’s not the heads. It’s you and the shafts you’re choosing. Head failure is rare all on its own. While it does happen, 2 cracked heads just might be strength vs. flex.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Jul 30, 2014 at 5:50 pm

I have to disagree, I like the driver but I have damaged two heads, cracked one and buckled another and it was done with two different shaft flexes one was stiff and other was regular.

Whilst I am a little behind the trend, I have just bought the WS FG Tour M3 driver and it did not last a bucket of balls on the driving range before the head split. Was quite spectacular flash and crack as it gave. My swing speed is only 105 mph – so nowhere near the biggest of hitters…. Club is defective design if you cannot use it to drive…

I purchased the WS FG M3 driver in 2015 and the head came off twice and was glued back on by the resident Pro. Now the head has cracked and Wilson replaced with a new super lite D200 driver. I wanted to replace or upgrade to the new WS Staff FG Tour F5 Driver but Amer Sports claim the D200 replaces the WS FG M3 Driver. I thought the D200 replaced the D100 and has been replaced by the D300. The Dxxx series is a totally different range of Drivers. Now I feel like I have a cheap and nasty light weight driver in the bag.

Tested the driver at a demo day last week. Wow, super distance for sure, and the ball flight was easy to adjust. The wilson rep spent some time with me in fitting the driver. I had a cobra adjustable driver and it did not light a candle to this one. now waiting for my pre order Wilson to arrive at end of December. For a single digit handicaper it simple had great feel and seemed to have consistent performance for me.

As an under 30 golfer that has never considered gaming a single Wilson club, I want this entire set. I currently play a variety of used stuff ping, TM, Adams, Mizuno, Nike, so I obviously have no brand loyalty. These are amazing, and make Wilson look like a legit company, not a kmart golf club.

First the guy that designed these was A Wilson Staff designer ,went to Adams put them in the limelight went back home to Wilson Staff. Now Mike is going to bring Staff back to the top where they were and will be again. It takes time to build back to the top. They have won 62 majors, more than any of the rest. So go to one of the others and you will miss being part of a legend coming back to life. I have the Fg V2 irons and they are the best Iron I’ve ever had. Waiting on the Woods with great excitement.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Sep 26, 2013 at 9:33 pm

Usually wears out pretty quick. There have been sets that lasted a season though. So it depends on the quality of the finish as well. I think I’m a full go for the rest of the woods, but the irons I may not get for that reason alone and also that I am still in love with my AP2s.

I like Wilson and think their line looks fantastic but I rather spend the money on a bigger name OEM than Wilson. Not that Wilson is not a major oem but they are a shell of what they used to be. I guess I’m just being a snob, but again would rather have Adams or MIZUNO or Cobra in my bag.

Sep 26, 2013 at 9:31 pm

Nah that’s totally personal preference. It’s your cash, spend in on stuff you like!

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Sep 27, 2013 at 10:15 am

Adams would be smaller than Wilson if it were not for TM/Adidas money. They still may be when you consider how many balls Wilson sells.Irons do look like CB2’S which means they look better than anything Adams does now. Do not let other companies marketing budgets sway you.Wilson should spent money to promote this line like they do in tennis, which they dominate. Try em all and decide.

Oct 10, 2013 at 1:06 am

Take away Wilson’s ball market and Adams easily outsells them in clubs. Not even close. Btw–I heard from a rep that Taylormade has no input in adams designs or marketing strategy. Adams has the wheel.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Dec 17, 2013 at 10:55 pm

This is untrue, Adams could not afford to forge their clubs so the TMade guys came over and designed all the new forged line up.

Sep 26, 2013 at 4:48 am

Holy cow these are good looking! I like my adams clubs, but seriously this is making me want to change! Wow wowow. Could get an entire wilson set all blacked out.

I have a guy in the golf shop I work at who is on staff with Wilson. I heard the rep talking about the players line that was coming out but I’m pleasantly surprised with the way the woods and hybrids look. The black finish on the irons looks amazing!

Sep 25, 2013 at 7:25 pm

Those hybrids look a bit like my a12pro’s and that’s not a bad thing. Love the look on all of these.

Sep 25, 2013 at 9:29 pm

Looks a lot like the Pro a12 is 4right. I seem to recall that I heard elsewhere that one of Adam’s designers moved over to Wilson when they were bought out? I know I am extremely excited for these hybrids — adjustability and the small head. Goodness I can’t wait for these. I can assure you I’ll be bagging the 17*

Sep 25, 2013 at 6:30 pm

Not sure what to say…Let me start with Wow!!!!!! I am sure therewill be nay sayers on the forums but really guys, not much to not like here. I am happy for an iconic brand like Wilson to get back into the spotlight.

Sep 25, 2013 at 5:55 pm

Ah, BIGTIME Wilson Staff fan here and had no idea this was coming. The 2014 line looks absolutely killer. Finally they will have the looks to back up the performance. I really hope people give these clubs a try.

In our effort to assemble the 2024 best irons , we have again compiled an expert panel of fitters to help you find out which of the 2024 irons is best for your game.

Ultimately the best way to find your personal best iron set is to work with a professional fitter using a launch monitor. The difficult part is a lot of people don’t have easy access to fitters, launch monitors, and club builders — so at GolfWRX, we have done a lot of the work for you.

Best irons of 2024: The process

The best fitters in the world see all the options available in the marketplace, analyze their performance traits, and pull from that internal database of knowledge and experience like a supercomputer when they are working with a golfer.

It’s essentially a huge decision tree derived from experience and boiled down to a starting point of options—and it has nothing to do with a handicap!

Modern iron sets are designed into player categories that overlap the outdated “what’s your handicap?” model, and at GolfWRX we believe it was important to go beyond handicap and ask specific questions about the most crucial performance elements fitters are looking at.

These are the best iron categories we have developed to help you determine which category is most important for your swing and game.

Best irons of 2024: The categories

  • Overall performance
  • Easiest to launch/Slower swing speed
  • Pure enjoyment
  • Most technology-packed

2024 Best irons: Easy to launch/Slower swing speed

wilson fg tour 3 wood

These are the irons for golfers who need height. With today’s modern golf ball, creating proper flight widows and spin can be difficult for some players — especially those at lower speeds, and this is where technology can really help. All of these irons do everything they can to create shot-stopping trajectories and a steeper angle of descent.

Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal HL

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Their story: With the JPX923 Hot Metal, Mizuno introduced “4355 nickel chromoly,” which is 35 percent stronger than the original Hot Metal material and allows for an eight-percent thinner clubface. Cup face construction works in tandem with a deep center of gravity for high launch with stopping power. Mizuno developed Hot Metal Pro, Hot Metal and Hot Metal HL (High Launch) from 175,000 real golf swings recorded via Mizuno’s Swing DNA system. JPX923 Hot Metal HL is a high launch speed cavity delivering a higher launching option for players with moderate swing speeds or aggressive shaft lean, it’s suitable for mid to high-handicap golfers.

Fitter comments:

  • “We’re talking about… people who need forgiveness, but they don’t spin it enough. They don’t get it in the air. The HL is a little little weaker-lofted, but they have the size and the forgiveness they need. It’s one of the go-tos for us.”
  • “We’ve been getting a lot of guys where it’s like, you know, the way you deliver it, you really need the loft of a, of a blade, but you’re not good enough to hit a blade. So, you know, we need to get some height. Like the slower swing speed player, aging golfer, like they don’t have 130 MPH ball speed with a seven that they can launch it at 15 degrees and still get it in the air. They gotta get that thing off the ground and up to get some distance out of it. And this thing is just, it’s so easy to get up in the air…even if we do bend other things weaker, we can’t get it as high lofted as that thing, and it just goes straight up in the air.”
  • “It’s super forgiving and it feels pretty good that. We sell more HL’s than we do standard Hot Metals. It’s such a popular golf club.”
  • “It’s a spectacular club and really is probably the best club in that high-launch category. If you take the high launch QI, you take the [Callaway Paradym] Ai Smoke HL, [Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal] HL, that’s the best one.”

For more photos/info, read our launch piece.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Their story: At the core of Callaway’s new Ai Paradym Smoke irons is the Ai Smart Face. With the Ai Smart Face, these irons are designed to promote exceptional distance, tight dispersion into the green, and optimal launch in a modern construction. The new shape consists of longer blade lengths, thinner toplines, and optimized sole widths in a bid to create a forgiving, yet streamlined look at address. In addition, an all-new Dynamic Sole Design features a pre-worn leading edge with variable bounce that cuts through the turf with efficiency.

  • “Compared to the standard Ai Smoke, it’s definitely launching a little bit higher. I would say blade length is a little bit longer. So, you know, it’s a little bit more forgiving a little bit easier to hit than that traditional AI Smoke. It’s gonna launch higher than Ai Smoke and spin a little bit more for that player that needs that help.”
  • “Amazing when it comes to getting the ball airborne and retaining spin. Very easy to hit and very stable through impact. Second place to Mizuno, for me.”
  • “The HL verison allows for a player to play a strong lofted iron in a lightweight package that helps achieve great distance. This iron is long! The ball speeds are crazy high. This iron is great for a player who flips at it.”
  • “Even though not as light as the others, the HL gets the ball in air faster and slower speed needs that for distance”
  • “Powerful but still helps get the ball to launch at a playable angle. Generates height well with lots of speed across the face.”

TaylorMade Qi HL

Their story: With a blend of minimalistic aesthetics and advanced multi-material technology, TaylorMade’s new Qi irons aim to deliver the optimal combination of distance, accuracy and solid feel in an inviting game-improvement package. At the heart of the Qi iron is individual head optimization, organic face designs, and FLTD CG, all working in unison to help golfers minimize the right miss. With their latest irons, TaylorMade has designed the all-new Qi irons to have significantly less right bias for straighter and more accurate shots.

Fitter comments:

  • “That’s a big ass iron. But you also have a much better look than the [Stealth] HD last year. That [iron] was really shallow in the face that got the ball up great. But it just didn’t look the way some people wanted, right? They didn’t want a small face. So it’s a really good option for people.”
  • “You’re seeing some of these companies…I think they’re seeing that sometimes…a little bit of loft can be, be good, you know, but they’re combing it with heads now that are super tight off the face. You get some of those guys catching it all on the face, the thing still getting up in the air, still producing ball speed.”
  • “I would say the Qi HL, it’s like kind of top charts when it comes to…if someone’s hitting it, that thing wants to go. And I think they definitely did a good job…with the redesign of it compared to Stealth HD.”
  • “The previous generation was a little bit off-putting, you know, some, most people don’t wanna play kind of, you know, a hybrid-iron. It’s a little bit easier to hit a little bit better package…compared to the HD, the packaging is 1,000,000 bucks.”
  • “I mean…[Stealth] HD worked really good but it was very hard to…get someone to accept that they had to use it. Now at the [Qi10] HL you put that in someone’s hands, it looks good. It feels good. And they feel like, ‘I’m using a, a golfer golf club,’ you know. It’s a real battle sometimes with people…our job is performance, but they also want something that’s gonna look good in their bag.”
  • “The fact that it looks like a regular golf club is helpful. I think in that modern-day iron, it’s just lofts are getting so strong, and the ball is spinning so little off of these things that if you don’t naturally hit it super high, irons like that are just perfect for guys, they’re able to hold greens, stop it quicker. For a lot of guys, that height means more distance. So they’re actually hitting it farther with more loft and, and be able to hold a green better. And guys that maybe had a five hybrid are now getting a five iron back in their bag and it’s, it’s, it’s great.”

Ping G430 HL

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Their story: Billed as Ping’s “longest iron ever”, the G430 irons combine a lower CG with stronger, custom- engineered lofts and a thinner face that delivers up to 2 more mph of ball speed, per the company. At the heart of the new addition is the PurFlex cavity badge, an innovation which features seven flex zones that allow more free bending in design to increase ball speed across the face. In combination with a lower CG, the badge aims to contribute to the solid feel and pleasing impact sound. The stronger lofts across the set resulted in the addition of a 41 degree PW to ensure proper gapping options and allowed for standard lofts in the traditional scoring wedges (45.5, 50, 54 and 58 degrees).

From the fitters:

  • “With that Alta Quick shaft, I mean, it’s just, it’s super easy to kick that thing up in the air. And what I really like about it is they don’t put flex on the shaft. We’ve had, you know, I mean, you explain to the customer like, hey, you know, you might, you know, you’re gonna need that 35-gram Alta Quick. It’s not gonna say, you know, ladies flex or whatever and no one knows.”
  • “It’s super easy to hit, super easy to launch, especially for someone who needs…that help and forgiveness.”
  • “What I like about what Ping does, they don’t just like, shove a lighter-weight shaft in the same club head. They put a lighter grip on it, they put a lighter shaft in it. So like they kind of do it the right way. It’s just an overall lighter package version of the best game improvement iron out there. So it’s you get all the forgiveness and everything else that you get with G430, but now in a total balanced package for a slower swing speed player, it’s, it’s great.”
  • “What I like about it too is with the Alta Quick 35 [shaft]. It’s essentially like a ladies golf club that doesn’t say ladies on it. So like you get that guy that swings super slow or you get like that junior boy or something like that that just, you know, I’m not, you know, especially like the kids like, I mean, he’s not playing a club that says ladies on it or it’s purple or something you can get than this and it looks just like his dad’s G430s, but it just gets up in the air and goes and it’s awesome.”
  • “The best iron in the game improvement category. High launch and packed with forgiveness on those off-center hits. It’s one of the easiest irons to hit. The HL version allows players who need a lighter package and need help with higher launch are able to achieve that with this iron.”

Titleist T350

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Their story: The new T350 irons are still built for maximum distance and forgiveness, but they were redesigned with a hollow-body construction that’s inspired by the T200. Like the T200, the T350 also uses Max Impact Technology behind the face to maximize speed and forgiveness, and dual-tungsten weights in the back cavity. The T350 irons are noticeably larger, and with thicker toplines, than the T200 irons for golfers who need the additional surface area and stability.

  • “The T350 is super good. They definitely cleaned it up, cleaned up that topline a little bit and made it…a little bit more compact, a little bit smaller for sure.”
  • “You know, I think is one of those irons that maybe sometimes can get overlooked. I don’t know…some guys, they think ‘Titleist,’ they can’t hit it. If someone’s in this category, it’s always a club you’re gonna have.”
  • “So like this is the first one in that model that’s had like a forged face and, and, and, and I think that just improved the feel of it. Topline to me looks a little bit cleaner and, they do a nice job of hiding the offset doesn’t look quite obnoxious when you look down at it. I don’t know if it’s like the chrome that they put or whatever, but it looks a lot cleaner at address. The iron’s always been super easy to get up in here.”
  • “That type of customer, I know they all want to do is just hit it nice and far. But we’re seeing so many guys come in that just need help getting it airborne in that moderate kind of clubhead speed category. And this thing is probably, if not the easiest, one of the easiest irons in this category to launch. And I think that’s what makes it so great.”
  • “High launch is a key component to this iron. Clean look, with reduced offset and a better look for a players game improvement iron. Players are surprised that this is a game improvement iron based on the looks and package size.”

Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Fairway Woods Review

Last Updated: 26 November 2015

wilson fg tour 3 wood

At a glance

  • TG Rating 3.8 out of 5
  • Owner Rating Not yet rated

Lots of adjustability to fine-tune your flight.

Not as long as other models.

  • RRP £179.00

What we say...

Technology Three adjustable heads create a 12.5° to 19° loft range (in half-degrees). Three different sole weights aid ideal trajectory and clubhead speed.

Tested As reviewed in our Fairway Woods Test 2014: The chunky hosel is not blended in very well. The head instantly feels light even with the middle 7g sole weight, which created a higher flight. Having the heavier 11g in place seemed to kick the shaft more, adding loft, spin, a higher flight but also more distance. It was more controllable, too, but the shallow face isn’t ideal from the tee. The grey finish isn’t as well done as the  Callaway X2 Hot . Decent feel off the face.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

For accomplished players seeking equipment with forgiveness and the benefits of adjustability without resorting to what some consider high-tech shovels, Wilson Golf is rolling out an entire new family of clubs under its Wilson Staff banner.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

The launch of the FG Tour M3 collection includes an adjustable driver – Wilson’s first – fairway woods, hybrids and irons. All of the M3 clubs are expected to be at retail in January.

FG Tour M3 driver

The adjustable driver is available in only one model and comes pre-set with a loft of 9.5 degree. But it can be altered in half-degree increments, varying loft from 8.5 degree to 11.5 degree. The deep-faced, 460-cc titanium head has an extremely thin crown, and the weight saved in its production allowed Wilson to add an adjustable weight system in the sole. Each driver comes with a 7-gram weight screwed into the bottom of the head. It can be replaced with one of two additional screws (3 grams and 11 grams).

“We want players to experiment, we want players to dial in their game,” said Michael Vrska, Wilson’s global director of research and development.

According to the company, a variable-thickness face helps to broaden the sweetspot and maintain ball speed on mis-hits.

Cost: $349 with a 50-gram Aldila RIP Phenom shaft or a lower-spinning, 60-gram Aldila RIP Phenom NL shaft.

FG Tour M3 fairway woods

With many golfers using their 3-wood these days as a driving club, Wilson designed the 13.5-degree 3-wood in this line with a slightly deeper face than the 15- and 17-degree models. The 17-degree club is 15 cc smaller than the other two clubs because Wilson wanted it to appeal to golfers who still love traditional, small-headed fairway woods.

The crown of all three clubs are made from stamped 430-stainless steel and is attached to a 17-4 stainless steel chassis. The FG Tour M3 fairway woods feature the same adjustable-hosel system and weight system found in the driver.

“We actually added a little bit of spin in our fairway woods to increase the carry distance,” Vrska said. “That’s one of the reasons why the adjustable weight is positioned further back in the sole. Still, it’s not a high-spinning club by any stretch of the imagination.”

Cost: $219 with a 60-gram Aldila RIP Phenom shaft.

FG Tour M3 hybrid

Low-handicap golfers demand the ability to hit each club to a specific distance. The FG Tour M3 hybrids – which should be considered as long-iron replacements rather than miniature fairway woods – feature an adjustable hosel system designed to make this task easier.

Offered in 17-, 19-, 21- and 23-degree models, each of the four 17-4 stainless steel hybrids allows its loft to be increased or decreased by one degree. (The 19-degree version, for example, can be adjusted to 18- or 20-degree.) Additionally, in any loft setting, the M3 hybrid can be made 2 degrees upright, which Wilson says is the most common fitting adjustment. The long-iron replacement also is equipped with an adjustable weight system in the sole. With such adjustable features, the M3 hybrid should help better players with their distance control and provide more forgiveness than typical irons, Wilson says.

Cost: $199 with Aldila RIP Phenom 85 shaft.

FG Tour M3 irons

Forged from 8620 carbon steel for a soft feel, the FG Tour M3 irons are designed for players who covet a higher trajectory with their long irons and seek the ability to flight short irons accurately.

“On the back of the clubs, under the topline, is the thinnest forged area that we’ve ever done,” Vrska said. “That allowed us to remove a lot of mass from an area where it’s not needed.”

As these matte-black finished cavity-backs transition from short irons to long irons, discretionary weight removed from the top of the face has been repositioned in the heel and toe areas to lower the center of gravity.

Said Vrska: “That’s how we were able to make 3- and 4-irons, in a forged golf club, that were a little more forgiving. Not super forgiving – there are many more-forgiving irons in the Wilson line-up – but just a little more forgiveness and a little more spin in the long irons while remaining workable for the better player.”

The M3 irons replace the Staff FG Tour irons in Wilson’s line, and Vrska said the new set’s long irons have slightly less offset and slightly thinner toplines.

Paul Lawrie used a third-generation prototype of this club, a 3-iron bent to 2-iron loft, at last season’s Open Championship at Muirfield. According to Vrska, Kevin Streelman is expected to switch to M3 long irons this fall.

Cost: $799 with True Temper Dynamic Gold XP steel shafts; $899 with Aldila RIP Phenom 95 graphite shafts.

2016 Wilson M3 FG Tour 3 Wood - Fade Bias?

2016 Wilson M3 FG Tour 3 wood…Finally found a 3 wood that finally had a distinctive miss (fade bias) and found by chance when I borrowed a friends M3 on a golf trip.  I’m a low handicap golfer and can move the ball both ways but can’t draw this club if I tried.   This is a club I’ve been looking for for years and a brand i normally would not even consider.

Does anyone know if any other brands have 3 woods that have similar perimeter toe weighting to deliver a more fade biased ball flight?  Are Wilson’s latest 3 woods designed with same fade bias?

FG Tour M3 fairway

GOLFMAGIC was afforded the luxury of taking a first look at Wilson Staff's brand new FG Tour M3 range . After checking out both iron and driver, it was onto the fairways.

As you might expect, the FG Tour M3 fairways feature much of the same look and technology as their big brother - with the only exception being there are no alignment aids on the crown.

The fairways, available in 13.5-, 15- and 17-degree, can be adjusted 1-degree down and 2-degree up, also in half degree increments. Each degree of loft change this time around alters launch angle by 0.8-degree and spin by approximately 200 RPM.

Like the FG Tour M3 driver, the fairway woods feature six different loft settings and three performance-enhancing sole weight options. The loft and sole weight options make these fairway woods customisable for ideal trajectory and increased clubhead speeds.

The fairways feature a variable thickness face and crown element that allow mass to be moved to optimise centre of gravity and increase ball speeds.

Of both fairway and hybrid, there's no question I favoured the 19-degree hybrid in terms of ball striking, again with a heavier sole weight that I felt helped me go down and after the ball and pop it airborne.

The fairway wood in 15-degree was flying long off the tee to around the 220-yard mark and certainly felt solid enough but results weren't as consistent as the hybrid when it came to playing the ball off the deck. Although, I guess that's to be expected.

While I'm not a massive fan of the new iced look on the crowns of the M3 woods, one benefit is that there's no glare on the clubhead when its sunny. I would, however, liked to have seen some sort of alignment aid in order to inspire a little more confidence at address. Then again, that's just personal preference.

In terms of feel, the standard Aldila RIP Phenom 65 shaft in the fairway aids a low-launching ball flight. The clubhead also feels very stable and there's plenty of feedback on offer.

Spy Pics! – 2014 Wilson FG Tour M3 Woods and Irons

Written By: Tony Covey

Wilson Staff is Back

Maybe not back in black, or even all the way back, but 2013 has been nothing short of a monster year for Wilson, and if the 2014 lineup is any indication, they’re just getting started.

Given Wilson’s reputation (both real and imagined), one might assume that whatever success Wilson has enjoyed in 2013 is the result of strong iron sales. That’s partly true, the D-100 irons has helped propel Wilson to a 119% increase in irons sales over last year.

That’s pretty good…especially if you’re Wilson, but %119, it turns out, is relatively nothing.

The real story of Wilson’s 2013 turnaround is the unexpected (to me anyway) success of the D-100 series of woods. Admittedly some, including myself, found the D-100 line to be a curious offering from a company struggling to become relevant.

Wilson staffers have won more majors than any company in golf. For a serious stretch of time, Wilson was THE company for serious golfers. And yet, despite the company’s tour and elite player pedigree, every single club in the D-100 line of metalwoods falls solidly in the game-improvement category.

This is how you wage a comeback (shakes head, rolls eyes)?

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Take the driver for example. It’s an ultralight model with no x-flex offering, and nothing below 9°. Despite being infinitely fun to hit, the D-100 was never a real option for higher swing speed players who need a little help keeping the ball down and keeping spin under control. It was never going to appeal to 100% of the potential market.

If anything, the D-100 line was created almost to the exclusion of the better player, and Wilson knew it. As much as anything, the D-100 was a proof of concept designed to prove to the corporate overloads that the new blood at Wilson Staff was capable of not only creating golf clubs that performed; they could create clubs that people actually wanted to buy.

And they did.

Retail Buyers Took Notice

Flying home from this year’s PGA show I ended up on the same flight (and consequently in the same airport bar) as my local Wilson Sales guy (shout out to my man Adam). While I was admittedly less than thrilled by the D-100 series, he was understandably excited and optimistic. Sell-Through (orders from retail shops) were way up. The early signs suggested it could be a big year for Wilson Staff.

It has been.

I already told you about that 119% increase in iron sales. Pffft…119%. Check this out. Compared to the previous season:

  • Hybrid Sales: Up 269%
  • Fairway Sales: Up 344%
  • Driver Sales: Up 294%

I could probably do the math, but even the simplest among us doesn’t need a calculator to realize that Wilson Staff sales are up a shitload on average.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Those are awesome numbers, and that’s without digging into the success of the Duo Golf Ball (for a time it was outselling everything other than the ProV1 at the PGA Superstore). And, from a performance standpoint at least, it’s without digging into what quite possibly is the best wedge you’ve never hit; the Wilson FG Tour TC.

2013 has been a year of epic resurgence for Wilson Staff, but as I said at the onset, they’re just getting started.

2014 Wilson M3 Series

Yesterday we posted a pic of the upcoming FG Tour 100 Blade . While everyone loves a pretty blade, those types of offerings will never be your top sellers. To be successful you need to feed the middle without watering things down to the extent that the better player (or the guy who thinks he’s a better player) loses interest. That’s exactly the challenge Wilson has struggled to overcome for the last several years.

2014 is different. Fresh off the success of the D-100 series, a reinvigorated Wilson Staff finally looks poised to deliver a metalwoods lineup that will not only appeal to better players, but one that is also every bit worthy of the Wilson Staff tradition.

I think you’re going to like it.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

FG Tour M3 Driver

While recent anomalies like Xhot and RocketBallz have proven you can sell woods with a fairway-first approach, for most companies, it’s the driver that powers the lineup. That’s been a problem for Wilson. Seriously, when was the last time you got excited about a Wilson driver?

How about today?

As they did with the D-100, Wilson is taking a lightweight approach to driver design with the FG Tour M3.  Wilson calls their philosophy “The Right Light”. The idea is that while lighter can be better (Wilson’s research shows that for 50% of players, swing speed increases as head weight decreases), you still need to serve those players for whom lighter isn’t better (that same research found that for 15% of players, swing speed increases as head weight also increases).

The FG Tour M3 Driver offers the versatility needed to better fit a wide range of golfers.

With head weights starting at 198 grams and total weights beginning at 294 grams, the Wilson FG Tour M3, though heavier than the D-100, could be one of the lightest offerings on the market in 2014.

Take notice…I said “starting” and “could”. There’s nothing definitive in my statements, and that’s because the Wilson FG Tour M3 driver can be as heavy as 206 grams (head) and 312 grams overall.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Apart from the hosel adjustability (we’ll cover that next), the biggest performance feature of the FG Tour M3 is an interchangeable sole weight (3g, 7g, and 11g) that allows the golfer to tune his driver to reach the desired swing weight and/or optimize performance. It’s those sole weights, along with the differing weights in the stock shaft offerings, that account for the range of both head and total weight options.

Unlike some others, Wilson includes all 3 weights with your driver purchase. No need to hit eBay first,  from day 1 you’ll be free to either set it and forget it, or mess around to whatever degree your compulsion drives you. Like most other aspects of adjustability, the reality is most golfers won’t take advantage of the options, but for the tinkerer, it’s one of many features of the M3 series that makes it more compelling than anything Wilson has released in years.

Seriously. I think you’re going to like it.

Other key features of the FG Tour M3 design include an adjustable hosel that allows loft to be adjusted from 8.5° to 11.5° in 1/2° increments and Wilson’s Neutral Sole Design (NSD) which, like Cobra’s Smart Pad, ensures the club sits square and stable when grounded.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Each degree of loft changes launch angle by .6° and alters spin by 270-300RPM.

Finally, from a cosmetic perspective, the M3 driver is engineered to look the part of a better player’s driver. The pear shaped head is 460ccs, has a deep face for a more compact look at address, and what Wilson is calling an “iced” matte crown with black PVD finish.

Stock shaft offerings will be the Aldila RIP Phenom which has quickly become one of the go-to standards for mid-launch/mid-spin performance, and the Aldila Phenon NL which Aldila lists at the lowest launching shaft in their current lineup.

Additional shafts will be available through custom.

FG Tour M3 Fairways and Hybrids

wilson fg tour 3 wood

As you might expect the FG Tour M3 Fairways and Hybrids feature much of the same technology as big brother. While additional weights aren’t included, the same weight-based adjustments are available in both lines.

The fairway will be available in lofts of 13.5°, 15°, and 17°. Each can be adjusted 1° down and 2° up, also in 1/2° increments.  Each degree of loft change alters launch angle by .8° and spin by ~200RPM.

Hybrids will be available in lofts of 17°, 19°, 21°, and 23°. Each hybrid can be adjusted 1° up or down from the stated loft. The M3 hybrid’s hosel also allows for an upright setting at each loft.

FG Tour M3 Irons

We’ve been telling you for years that you need to be looking at Wilson irons. Sure, the Ci-11s (game-improvement) performed very well for us, but it’s the original FG Tour, and last season’s FG Tour V2 that have left the lasting impressions.

The V2s proved particularly awesome because they offered the forgiveness of a game-improvement…arguably a super-game-improvement iron, in packaging that was every bit that of a better player’s iron.

Our testers love them. Our readers love them, and if you never hit them, you should.

I think you’ll love them too.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Forged from 8620 carbon steel, the new for 2014 FG Tour M3 is the direct replacement for the original FG Tour. The V2 will remain a current offering (and it damn sure should). The new model is slightly larger (longer and taller with a wider sole) and more forgiving than the design it replaces. It has more offset – though it’s progressive, and a more modern, rounded shape with more sole radius and camber (the original FG Tours are fairly blunt).

While the description suggests more of a game-improvement design, Wilson maintains that the FG Tour M3 iron falls solidly in the game-improvement category. While I know some of us would like that everything on the market be a true player’s club, adding some forgiveness while adding some needed differentiation from the FG Tour V2 makes solid sense.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

What we’re really talking about is an iron that fits well in the emerging transitional iron category; forged irons for the guy transitioning from a traditional GI design. In that space, the FG Tour M3 isn’t just interesting…it’s dead sexy.

wilson fg tour 3 wood

Wilson Staff is Back in the Big Leagues

Look, I don’t have an illusions…delusions really about Wilson’s 2014 lineup powering the brand to the #1 spot in golf. Wilson isn’t going to unseat TaylorMade tomorrow, and they know that. And 2013, no matter how good of a year it’s been, it’s still just 1 year, and I think Wilson knows that too.

What Wilson did in 2013 is kick the tires of relevancy. They apparently liked what they saw and that’s reflected in the 2014 FT Tour M3 lineup. It’s not going to happen overnight, but what I’ve seen in the last year suggests that Wilson is serious about reclaiming their place in the golf equipment world.

Wilson was stagnant for so long that there’s an entire generation of golfers…let’s call it what it is…the Nike generation, who’ve never know Wilson Staff as a top-tier golf company. For those guys, Wilson has never played on the same level as TaylorMade, or Callaway, or even Nike.

It’s going to take time for that lost generation to discover the the revitalized Wilson Staff.

As with anything…you have to start somewhere, and that’s what Wilson did in 2013. With the D-100 series they laid the ground work…they proved they could make clubs that golfers want. In 2014 they’re going to dedicate the same type of effort towards the seriously player, and based on what I’ve read, and what I’ve seen, I’m all but certain he’s going to like it.

You can expect to see the Wilson FG Tour M3 lineup hit retail sometime in January of 2014.

Does Wilson Staff offer additional head weights other than the 3, 7 and 11 gram for the FG Tour M3 Driver?

Big Richard

I bought the Wilson Di 5 irons when I first started getting back into golf after the kids got off to college. They really gave me a leg up and made golf do- able for me. I passed those clubs on to my son because I know that they can do the same for him. I got the Ci 11 irons last year and it took a bit to make the transition but now I have lowered my handicap more than a few more strokes. I am starting to see more Wilson irons around and am happy to see that folks are recognizing their quality and value. Not to mention their feel and distance. I know that they are strong lofts but both sets of my irons go beyond that. I am 60 and getting darn near pro distance with my 7- gap. My partners are complimentary but I give Wilson the credit.. I have to say I was not impressed with the FG wedges or the D-Fy fairways but I am interested in these new ones. They are coming out with a C 100 iron the first of the year with some chrome accents on the back but still black. I understand that the shafts are 10 to 20 grams heavier than the flighted on the current Ci 11 irons. I am more concerned with the feel and not sure if the weight will be an issue. It will be interesting to see if they get it “right” like the other Wilson’s I have owned. And I also heard they hired the Adams designer for the new irons. I can say that the Ci 11 irons were hands down a better feeling club than the black Adams irons that were out when I bought mine in 2012. The black did not enter into my decision but the thinner looking top line is good. ( I bought my old Di 5’s over the Mizuno MX 23’s years ago). The black does wear off of the sole some but I could not care less. I am going to hold off because I am happy with my Ci’s but to anyone who is looking now you might want to scarf up the great $300 deals on the Ci 11’s before they are gone.

Got to see and hit all the new models today. The driver is incredible with the phenomenal shaft, the m3 pictures here do not do justice to how good they look. The c100 irons are also more compact than predessesor.

As for the hybrids looking like an adams, it could be perhaps of the fact that the man in charge of wilson club design is now working for wilson golf. Mike Vraska i believe is his name and he is bringing alot of clud design credibility with him to wilson. I love reading a certain magazines club test articles each year, i like reading anything about golf for that matter, my catalog from a certain retail chain no names being mentioned claims to have done their own club testing and the d100 and tour exotics were top in distance in their testing which i found interesting and caused myself to try each club and found them both to be great. I purchased a wilson driver and was amazingly surprised at how easy it was to hit and get great distance. Of course i swing it about 98 mph so no pro club speed but 265 is a very user happy number for me.

Let’s do another math class. I come out with 2 drivers one priced at 399 one priced at 299 in 6 weeks i lower the price of both of them because they dont sale because another companies driver is killing it and i cant sale mine after i lower it 50 bucks i still cant sale em so i lower it another 50 then i change the color and try to sell it, then i copy another companies design and try to sell another 399 dollar driver in the same year, causing customers to be mad at retailers because the club they spent 400 on in 3 months is 100 less. Thank you Titleist and Wilson for making a quality club and sticking to it instead of throwing darts at a wall and hoping they stick like 2 big name companies do.

Well like some have posted before the crown is very disappointing. Was loving everything I seen until I seen the top. IF it comes to retail shiny black or flat black would even be better, I’d most likely give it a go as I am considering switching back to FG Tour Irons or maybe FG 100 Blades. Would make an awesome set! Hopefully the driver will be good enough for the staffers to play as well!

The Ci11 irons will be replaced with new C100 iron.

Ok, I’m a little slow. Just saw the pic of the FG Tour 100s. I’ll need to see the full line-up, however the iron shown looks nice. I really hope that they didn’t go Mizzy, with the HGH induced muscle pad, and damn, I wish that they’d left the yellow off of them.

These are players irons, not some bullsh*t GI iron that’s gotta have blingy colors to compete with TMaG & Cobra.

And what’s with dumpin the Fg moniker?

And no, using it on some CBs doesn’t count. Those are no more an Fg iron, than the MP-H4 is an MP iron.

Wilson just doesn’t get it. And I grew up on the Dyna Powers, Fg 17s, and I’ve rotated the 51s, 59s & I just picked up a set of 62s to rotate with my Mizzy 68s, so spare me the lecture on Staff.

As I said above, they’ve made arguably the best or second best MB, year in & year out, of any off the shelf iron save possibly Mizzy, & I’ve also had Mizzys in the bag for 26+ years.

However their executives are *ssholes. Plain & simple, they don’t get it. The business side. The marketing side. It’s like when Caddy slid and couldn’t compete against the Germans. I mean, quality aside, if you can’t sell Caddy autos & SUVs & Staff irons in America, you suck and you have no business being in the industry.

With Staff’s storied history, and this is where they are in 2013.

They’re goin in the fight direction?

Yea, keep tellin yourselves that boys, LMAO

And what really sux is that there is no bigger Staff fan, save possibly JMiller on this site, however that still doesn’t change the fact that that whole executive suite should be cleared out.

Boy, do they suck

Farways & Greens 4ever

if you like the 59’s i was at an edwin watts store in nashville tennessee and wilson did the 59 heads with new groove conforming 399 a set for stiff flex i got a set myself, i hope wilson gets it going again like you. Cautiously opptomistic lol

Finished the season in the bag. I think that they’re one of the 2-3 best MBs of the modern generation. JMO, however I believe that they blow away the 51s & 62s.

The Best with your set!

Enjoy them.

Fairways & Greens My Friend

Didn’t hit or play the first two generation FG Tours before them so I have no comment on the M3s. I’m sure that they’re nice.

Please tell me that Staff is going to introduce a Fg MB to replace the Fg62, which is an exceptional iron. The Fg MB’s have won more majors than the next three irons combined, and are right there with the MP MB line as arguably the finest “off the shelf” MB made. The 17s were iconic and there are many that put the 59s there with them, and I just can’t see Staff not offering a MB.

Now that, I’ll get excited about.

And yea, the hybrid looks very Idea Pro ish. Id’ just go with the Adams. It’s still a hell of a hybrid.

Wow, hard to believe an icon on top of the head would distract someone so much. If the majority says kill it I would imagine they have time to.

Based on the shape of the industry any increase in sales is big news. For Wilson it is huge news. The ball(s) play great, wedges too. This is an awesome step which will create another huge increase. It always strikes me as weird that some people just do not want some brands to succeed. I view them as sheep that must follow the herd. Nothing wrong with that. Just seems too safe.

Let’s do a math class… Ready kiddies? Take $100 dollars…. Now let’s say that was last year & this year we did $500 bucks in sales. What’s the increase in sales? Hmm? That’s right a humongous (by percentage) increase. Actual dollar increase? Pathetic. Insignificant. When u have zero sales an increase no matter how small appears good..percentage… But it’s not. 200% increase for wilson? Maybe 50k went to 150k…

Taylormade? How bout a 1% increase which would equate to a 3 million increase… Ok… I joke… Sort of… Don’t know specific sales.

But u guys get my point.

Really good looking clubs. I hope the do well. I’ll definitely try them.

Shouldn’t be any yardage gaps with that much adjustability .. really want to hit these!

What is replacing the Ci11’s? These M3 irons have the same lofts as the other FG Tours I believe. Don’t like the crown color. Looks different than the Cally X Hot woods for some reason.

My local store showed me the 2014 catalog. The C100 will be coming out. I would expect that they are replacing the C11’s.

Love the new line up, can’t wait to take a whack at them!!!

I like the lofts on those irons. Much more traditional. A 47* PW, when everyone else is going to 44* or 45*, which screws up the gaps between wedges. I like the look of these irons and the progressive yet minimal offset, but I wonder about that dark finish. Several companies came out with that dark PVD finish a couple of years ago, but then abandoned it because it just didn’t hold up. Looks great when brand new, but scuffs and worn marks appear quickly.

TwoSolitudes

Love the irons, I would happily bag those. The hybrid is a bit blah to me- it does look a bit Adamsish.

The woods look much better than the D100 line, but I agree with ms1195 that the top view is disappointing. Is that the final product or are we looking at the unpainted unfinished versions here?

aotearoabrad

Great get T! I was thinking that the Tight Lies FMs might be a shoe-in for the bag, but these definitely will get a chance to prove themselves at some point. Really liking the look.

That is a very tidy looking hybrid tucked away in amongst those other clubs. The face looks very adams boxer . Although there arnt any really good pictures it looks a nice head shape, a distinct move away from the fybrid shape. Now lets hope they put a reasonable weight shaft in it. It looks like a long iron replacement rather than a 9 wood so hopefully they’ll be sensible and put something 80g plus in it. I carry a 19 and 21 910h and have a 90 and 100 g ust in them respectively. I understand light weight means distance but hybrids for me are for hitting targets not distances hence the heavy shafts. But a good move for wilson i think. The fg tour and v2 irons are cracking irons for the better player and its about time wilson joined the party with some woods to match.

These will sale as good as the previous. Not appealing in the least.

Displayedname

Now those look good! To bad they won’t be out till January. I hope they put new matching wedges as well.

As an owner of the original FG Tour irons, I like where they are going with the M3. Nice looking club with a fair amount of GI features. Some have sounded off negatively about the new blades, but I happen to love the look (even if it does evoke some Haig Ultra blade memories from the late 60’s). I will definitely hit both when the time comes. As for the driver, I’ll wait and see. The sole is gorgeous and the top is X-Hot gray. The alignment mark is virtually invisible so I’m not sure what the objection is. After switching to a 440cc head on the Razr Fit Xtreme, I’m not sure I can go back to a 460. But I want to hit it, which I couldn’t say about the D100. Nothing wrong with that club, but the lightweight approach doesn’t work for my swing. Those it works for really seem to have great results with it. I also want to mention the new wedge line. I have the TC 56 degree and I put away the Vokey. I love the feel of the head through the swing and I’m able to execute a hop and stop repeatedly that I couldn’t with the Titleist. Nothing against the Vokey, I’m sure it’s my swing that gives different results. But I’ve had regular playing partners saying that they’ve never seen me stopping the ball on the green like I have with that club. I can confidently stop it by the pin now and I love it out of the sand and rough. I mentioned it elsewhere but the new FG Tour prototype ball has already been a winner in Europe on the senior tour. The old one was a great spring ball but summer turned it to mush. Hopefully the compression is upped a bit in the new one..The FG X is as good for me as the Hex Black or Pro Vx. It gets dingy after 18 or 27 but the performance is excellent. If it was a $30-$35 ball it would be my everyday…At $40 its a toss up with the Hex Black, which I really like also (I’ve seen it online for $30 so I’ll probably grab some more. I figured the price drop was preceding a new ball) But even though my swing isn’t worthy, I admit to having a little drool going on for the blades. Might have to go 7-pw to augment my FG Tour longer irons.

whiskey golf

This a very nice lineup. I don’t need new irons and I wasn’t a big fan of the V2’s so I don’t need to look there. For wedges, although their latest series is very nice, I will stick to Vokeys. But the woods look nice, it would’ve been better if they left off the alignment aid on the driver.

tider992010

Really love the new designs. Would purchase if they play as well as they look!

I think that having Demo Days over a large area of the country has also helped in getting the interest up in the products .I own the FG Tour V2 irons and love them but not too crazy about the M3 look of the irons. They resemble the Adams CB2 irons I also have and am not crazy about. I will put my order in today at my local proshop at the course and wait for New Years! I wish we could see more touring pros playing Staff gear.

All these clubs were looking sweet, until I saw the top view of the woods. It looks like a silver-ish raw finish or something, is that just a bad picture? Why not just make it black or matte black like the pings?

Either way the irons look really good and certainly worth a try.

Wow! I played, and loved, the D100 driver for most of this year. Looks like I may be playing another Wilson driver in 2014. Maybe more than just the driver. Love the look of these irons!

all i know is the wilson di-11’s i purchased this year are the best clubs i’ve ever hit. at 63yrs of age, i’m at least a club and a 1/2 longer than i was at 40 their motto of “if you hit it you’ll get it” is so true

Leave it to Wilson to mess up a decent looking driver by putting a bad alignment mark on the top.

Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Hybrid Review

More in hybrids:.

TaylorMade Qi10 Tour Rescue

50 Words or Less

A great, compact look at address.  Strong, lower ball flight.  Extremely consistent.  Meaningful adjustability.

Introduction

This is the club that golfers have been anticipating ever since Wilson Staff made Michael Vrska their Global Director of Golf R&D.  As the man behind some of Adams’ most popular hybrids, the expectations for the FG Tour M3 hybrid from Wilson Staff are understandably sky high.  Does this club meet those expectations?  In a word, yes.

Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Hybrid (14)

Unsurprisingly, the FG Tour M3 is a fantastic looking hybrid.  At address, the club is compact without being too small.  To my eye, it’s perfectly proportioned.  The matte grey finish makes it appear even smaller than it is, and the darker face stripe near the face seems to help with alignment.

Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Hybrid (8)

Sound & Feel

The sound of the FG Tour M3 hybrid matches the traditional looks.  It’s a very quiet thud with hardly any metallic “crack” or “clank”.  The feel does give the golfer good feedback about the quality of the strike, which players of all levels can use to dial in their swing.

Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Hybrid (1)

Wilson Staff’s Multi-Fit System

Each of the clubs in Wilson Staff’s new FG Tour M3 line, the driver, fairway wood, and hybrid, feature the Multi-Fit System.  The Multi-Fit System offers players the ability to adjust loft, face angle, and the head weight.

Wilson recommends fitting for weight first, looking for the highest ball speed and the player’s preferred feel.  The different weights are 3, 7, and 11 grams.  While switching weights doesn’t change the feel of the club completely, it is a noticeable difference (approx. 2 swing weights per change).  Players with a strong preference for a certain swing weight or feel should appreciate this bit of adjustability.

After the head weight has been selected, Wilson recommends dialing in the loft for the ideal launch/spin combination, as well as the preferred ball flight.  The driver has the most adjustability, offering lofts from 8.5° to 11.5°.  The fairway woods span 3° also, and the hybrids have a 2° range..

One area where I give Wilson huge credit: they’re the only OEM I’ve seen that clearly acknowledges that changing loft changes face angle (and vice versa) and makes the changes known to the consumer.  In the adjustment manual, there is a table for each club showing the face angle at each loft.

Finally, another big thumbs up to Wilson for including the weight and wrench kit with each club rather than making it available with the driver only or forcing consumers to buy it separately.

Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Hybrid (17)

Performance

Much like the FG Tour M3 Fairway Wood that we reviewed earlier this year (find it HERE ), the main thing that I noticed about this hybrid was the consistency.  Spin rates and ball speed are extremely robust across the face which means very consistent ball flight.

The FG Tour M3 hybrid does favor a strong, lower ball flight which should appeal to high spin, high speed players, and those who need help keeping the ball down.  Low ball hitters like myself can still play this club successfully by either buying more loft or adjusting the head to a more lofted position.

While the FG Tour M3 does show all the signs of being a better players hybrid, it’s not a club that I would keep from average players.  I found it to be fairly forgiving on mishits, and the head appeared to be neutrally weighted, favoring neither a fade nor a draw.  This is a club that a mid-handicap player could enjoy playing immediately and also grow into over time.

Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Hybrid (4)

The Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 is a great hybrid that offers many of the benefits of a players hybrid without the usual drawbacks.  At address, you get a great look, and at impact, you get a very solid, satisfying sound and feel.  This club offers better players plenty of control over the golf ball, but still provides very consistent distance even on less-than-perfect strikes.

Price & Specs

The Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 hybrid retails for $200.

This club is available in lofts of 17°, 19°, 21°, and 23°.  Each loft is adjustable up and down one degree.

The stock shaft is the Aldila RIP Phenom.

  • Dates & Prices

This short Moscow tour will give you a true taste of the history, culture and incomparable urban vibe that define one of the world’s largest metropolises. In just three days, this Moscow itinerary takes in all the most iconic sights of this attraction-packed destination. After two and half days getting acquainted with the city, we’ve set time aside for you to explore Moscow your way and discover your own favourite hang-outs in a city overflowing with hidden treasures

3-Day Moscow Tour Highlights:

  • Panoramic Tour of Moscow: See Moscow beyond the postcard images on a private excursion by car through the city streets including a drive along the banks of the Moskva River. Visit the famous Bolshoi Theatre, pass by Gorky Park and the Novodevichy Convent, and admire the city from on high at the Sparrow Hill observation platform.
  • Moscow Historical City Centre Guided Walking Tour : Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of one of the world’s biggest metropolises and discover local haunts on foot, including the Red Square, the Kremlin and the multi-coloured domes of St Basil’s Cathedral.
  • Armory Chamber tour: Explore the endless treasures of this unique museum, displaying the wealth accumulated by Russian rulers from the 12th century until the October Revolution of 1917. Walking through the exhibition halls is a journey through the centuries.
  • Moscow Metro Tour : Go deep underground on a subway tour of the famous Moscow metro. The world’s deepest metro system is renowned for its palatial, art-adorned stations, complete with marble columns and chandeliers.

On your first day, you’ll be treated to a panoramic, drive-by tour of Moscow to get a feel for the immense scale of one of the world’s most rapidly developing urban centres. The city’s history unfolds in real-time as you pass lavish imperial mansions, solemn Soviet structures and luxurious modern shopping centres.

Day two kicks off exploring Moscow’s historic centre on foot, followed by a tour of the Kremlin, the seat of Russian power and political intrigue for centuries. Stand in the Red Square, surrounded by the stunning architecture as you hear stories of the people and events behind many of Moscow’s most iconic landmarks.

On your final day, we’ll head beneath the city for a tour of the Moscow Metro and its famously ornate underground stations. Art lovers should hit up one of Moscow’s many world-class galleries such as the Tretyakov State Gallery, the Pushkin Museum or Garage, Moscow’s cutting-edge contemporary art museum. History fans can follow a Soviet trail through the city including Stalin’s Bunker, while those seeking a more indulgent experience can browse trendy neighbourhoods like Kitay Gorod or shop for everything from fashion to kitsch souvenirs at the enchanting Izmaylovo Flea Market. Foodies can head to one of the countless speciality stores sampling vodka, caviar and chocolate.

If you only have a few days to spend in Moscow, this tour will ensure you make the most of your time in the city. Let the experts navigate you through this complex and occasionally overwhelming capital, giving you plenty of time to soak up the city’s most unmissable attractions.

Russia Moscow Tour

Day 1 Panoramic city tour

Welcome to the glorious capital of Russia, Moscow! You’ll be met by your driver at the airport and taken to your centrally located hotel.

After check-in and rest, meet your private guide at the hotel lobby for a comprehensive tour of Moscow by car. Visit the starkly contrasting Theatre Square to see the stunning Bolshoi Theatre, pass Tverskaya Street, the city’s main boulevard and home to the landmark Yeleseyevskiy Grocery Store.

You’ll enjoy a panoramic drive along the Moskva River, where a huge, controversial state of Peter the Great was erected. Pass by the legendary Gorky Park and the White House before a stop at the architecturally stunning Novodevichy Convent, and the observation platform at Sparrow Hills, for a bird’s eye view over this staggering megalopolis.

Day 2 Red Square and Kremlin

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical city centre. Stroll through the Red Square, the hub of cultural life in Moscow, with its elaborate ‘stone flower’ fountain and fantasy-like St Basil’s Cathedral – a postcard-perfect symbol of the nation. Admire the grandiose façade of GUM, the city’s most luxurious shopping centre, and visit Alexander’s Garden, with its eternal flame and the chance to watch a changing of the guards.

Break for lunch before continuing on a tour of the Kremlin and Armoury Chamber, famous of its collection of tsarist fashion, with regalia such as jewel-encrusted crowns, orbs and sceptres as well as arms and armour, exotic gifts from the leaders of faraway lands, and an illustrious case of Imperial Faberge eggs.

As an option* spend an evening on a sumptuous dinner cruise, taking in the stunning sights and city lights of this mesmerising metropolis by night.

Day 3 Metro and Arbat Street

Start a day with a tour of Metro, stopping on the way to marvel at some of the most elaborately decorated stations of the world-famous Moscow subway system. Take a stroll along Old Arbat street - the most famous street in Moscow. Through the centuries Arbat used to be one of the most bohemian places in Moscow. Today Arbat is a promenade full of small cozy cafes and street life.

The afternoon is free for you to either enjoy the rest of the day on your own or choose among optional excursions to explore more of Moscow. Visit the Tretyakov Gallery or Pushkin State Museum to admire Russian art. Join locals for a stroll at the Gorky or VDNH park.

Visit beautiful Kolomeskoye Estate or Izmailovo Kremlin, or spend a day exploring the beautiful city of the Golden Ring (Russian province) - Sergiev Posad. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your departure to your next destination.

  1. Wilson Staff FG Tour FG5 3-wood

The 3-wood is a very good performing 3-wood. With the lower and forward weight on the sole to move the CG they have a very easy launching, but strong flighted 3-wood. Wilson has been killing it in terms of looks recently. The Staff FG Tour F5 lines looks as good as anything. The 3-wood shape is a very traditional kind of pear shaped head.

Sound & Feel. The Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 fairway wood announces impact with a deep "crack.". Interestingly, for a players club, the sound doesn't change too much from mishits to pure strikes.
