2002 Excursion - potential VSM issue

I just bought a new to me 2002 Excursion 7.3 and I believe that I'm having VSM issues. What I am experiencing is power door locks do not work, door ajar light is always on, theft light flashes, no interior/dome lights come on when doors are opened. It has an aftermarket alarm system on it that I'm going to remove, so I don't have a way to test remote door lock functionality at this time. Has anyone run into this type of thing? It seems like most of the problems I have been reading about have been 2002 year models. Also, does anyone have any advice on where to buy/have a buddy at a Ford dealership close to Mooresville/Charlotte? I found one for 180 plus shipping new, which seems to be the best deal so far, but will still require a reprogram at a Ford dealer.

Similar issues to my 02 250. A replacement VSM was what fixed it. I tried cleaning the door jam sensors and a few other tricks but the issue always came back.

I've tried the door jam sensors already, no dice. My thought is VSM given the other things that aren't working. Radio also doesn't cut off when doors are opened, just another symptom of the VSM. I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and order it. I'll post back with results.

Following up on this problem. I ordered a new VSM from Green Sales Co in Ohio,they specialize in NOS Ford parts. I ordered the updated VSM part number 4C7Z15604AC, but received the original/old VSM part number 2C7T-15K602-AJ. Not exactly what I was expecting, but I pulled the lower dash and unplugged the old VSM. I plugged in the new replacement just to see if it fixed anything, and door locks now magically worked, interior lights turned on when doors were opened, and all of the rest of the signs of a failed VSM disappeared with no reprogramming - not too bad. I also got the alarm system that was not functioning to work, so now I can unlock/lock/arm the X, which makes me feel a lot better about driving it around and leaving it out in parking lots for extended amounts of time. So the plan is to run the NOS VSM since no programming required should save me ~$100 bucks at the dealer and if I get 5-6 years out of it that will work for me. I think the original failed a couple of years ago, so maybe 14 year or so out of it before failure.

Excursions get crystalline headlamp lenses for 2002, as well as "smart" intermittent front and rear wipers. Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2002 Ford Excursion XLT 2WD 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of N/A undefined in North Dakota.

Vehicle overview.

In a classic "bigger is better" move, Ford has upped the SUV ante by producing the largest Bradymobile yet. The Excursion offers more interior room and cargo capacity than the previous heavyweight title-holder, the Chevrolet Suburban. At the same time, Ford is touting the Excursion's "earth-friendly" aspects like an engine lineup that meets LEV standards (albeit for heavy-duty trucks, not passenger cars and light-duty trucks) and the fact that 85 percent of the Excursion, by weight, is recyclable (never mind that 85 percent of an Excursion still equals about 2.5 Honda Civics).

The Excursion's base engine is a 5.4-liter V8 (255 hp/350 pound-feet) on two-wheel-drive models or a 6.8-liter V10 (310 hp/425 lb-ft) on models equipped with four-wheel drive. Optional is a 7.3-liter V8 diesel that makes 250 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of earth-shaking torque. All engines come with a four-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment; no manual transmission is offered in the Excursion.

A trailer tow hitch comes standard, and the Excursion can tug 11,000 pounds in 4WD guise. For comparison, the Chevy Suburban 2500 equipped with the 8.0-liter Vortec V8 can manage 12,000 pounds. But the Ford holds slightly more cubic feet of stuff than the Chevy. The Excursion measures 146.4 cubic feet versus the Suburban's 138.4.

Two trim levels are available. The base XLT model includes running boards, remote keyless entry, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, an AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo, a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat and a third-row removable bench seat. Angle up to the Limited trim level, and you get a leather interior, automatic climate control, front captain's chairs, woodgrain trim, rear-seat audio controls, a trip computer, power rear quarter-windows, aluminum wheels, illuminated running boards, power signal aero mirrors and fog lamps. An optional rear seat entertainment system, which includes a 6.4-inch overhead LCD monitor, is DVD-powered this year.

Buy an Excursion, and you get tons of cargo- and passenger-carrying capacity, plus the security of knowing that no one else on the road will try to mess with you. Of course, you also get the huge inconvenience of not being able to park in certain garages or use some car wash facilities, and then there's the possibility that other people will assume that, by driving such a behemoth, you're trying to overcompensate for some other area in which you may be lacking. But if you're in the market for such a vehicle, and neither the Chevy Suburban nor the GMC Yukon XL does it for you size-wise, this is your SUV.

Just keep in mind that driving the Excursion is like piloting a loaded U-Haul, and you're going to have to become an ultra-safety-conscious driver.

Is the VSM (Vehicle Security Module) Causing these issues. -Door Ajar Light -Key Fob not working -Door locks not working -no dome light when doors open but works with switch on dash -radio doesn't shut off when truck is off and doors open -no dinger when door is open and key is in the ignition. I got a deal on a VSM from for will cost me about $300 installed. any ideas?

Yep the VSM controls all that. I went threw all that and installed a good used vsm and it fixed everything but the dome lights still stayed on in my truck weither The doors were open or shut. I then did the wd40 trick and all the switches in the doors freed up and worked properly except the drivers door and that one I took the door switch out and freed it up by hand with wd40 and everythings been working great ever since.  

That's what i thought. And what do you mean you installed a used VSM. I thought they all had to be programmed by the dealer for it work.

Try the accesory delay relay befor spending that kind of money mine did close to what ur talking about and the relay fixed it all  

I got a good known good used one that matched my part number exactly and just had to reprogram my key fobs to work and that took 3 minutes. New ones or used ones that dont match the number on your box exactly will need to be programmed to work properly. Actually the used one I got was out of an 02 but slightly different number as they were upgraded in 03 due to the 02 ones causing problems but I was told any 03 vsm that has the same features as the 02 year will work even if the number is slightly different. Ill see if I have the number from mine and the 03 number here still. Youll still have to pull yours down and write the number down thats on it so you know whitch one you have.  

Thanks for all the input I will have that relay tested. Any ideas witch one that would be? I wish I knew where i could find a used one but that's the issue I can't and I can get a really good deal on a knew one after talking to one of my ex-girlfriends (diesel mechanic at Ford LOL) she can get me a really good deal on one.....still up in the air.

Fleabay is where I got my used one for $100 bucks with warranty for 30 days. Youll need your number off yours and match it up with one on there then plug n play when it arrives. You just have to program your key fobs to the other vsm but that takes 3 minutes to do.  

I am Experiencing the same issues and it looks like I will need to Replace My VSM also. Where is it located and aren't the part numbers normally the same. Any other advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Complex experimental studies of hydrodynamically excited vibrations of fuel-element bundles have been performed on full-scale models of VVER-440 fuel assemblies. Pressure pulsations were used as the main hydrodynamic characteristic of turbulent coolant flow according to the effect of its load on the fuel-element surfaces in the flow. Realizations of the random hydrodynamic loads causing vibrations of fuel elements are obtained on the basis of multi-point measurements of pressure pulsations along the perimeter of the outer row of the fuels elements in a bundle.

ok i have replaced my Vechicle Security Module due to worn out relays. I have programmed my remotesto the new module but now when i have the key just in the ingetion the dingers is beeping when the door is closed and the dinger is off with the door open how do you program it the other way around???? the other thing i need to change is the dome light stays on for 5 minutes no matter the postion whether the key is in and driving or just in the driveway????? How do i fix this thanks  

If you do not have the old VSM still, it will have to be programmed by the dealer using "as-built" data. Programming the VSM is not something that can be done at home since access to the corporate website and the IDS is required to program in as-built information. Buddy

If you do still have the old VSM, there is a procedure called Programmable Module Installation(PMI), which still requires the dealer to program. Simply, if the old module can still communicate to the scan tool, the programming data is retrieved from the old module, then the new VSM installed, then the IDS will program the new VSM with the configuration data from the old VSM. How did you find a part # for the VSM? Where is it located? I believe mine is bad, since my keyless entry has stopped working altogether. Thanks...  

It is located on the fire wall behind the stereo. It is a pain to get to. I replaced my VSM but my remotes still worked.  

Do any Parts Stores or online shops sell programming tools or computers or even the software so an owner can retrieve the old VSM data and program the new VSM? You'd think that it would have done so by now but I googled this and nothing appears. Anyone know of something I can buy to turn my laptop into a diagnostic / programming tool?  

This can be a tough question to answer... some scan tools have capabilities that others lack. Proprietary modules such as ABS, GEM, VSM and others can add problems to the mix... I have heard that AE allows access to proprietary module data stream (depending on the package purchased) but not if it allows programming these modules... Additional considerations.... Emissions related (OBD) programming is available to a point... this is required by law in both Canada and the US... However, these same proprietary modules aren't covered under these guidelines and it may be difficult to access programming for them... More bad news.... there are time that, if a PMI (Programmable Module Installation) isn't performed in the correct sequence - this is to say that if a new module is installed and had the opportunity to "shake hands" with other modules on the truck - there may be no going back and "as built" data may be required to complete the programming sequence. This "as built" data may be a little harder to come by - heavy on the "may" - I get it easily but I have access (not blowing any horns... just trying to make sure we have all the facts). Just because I can get "as built" doesn't mean everyone can. Sidebar.... many newer vehicles (no diesels yet) now require a "parameter reset" to introduce any new modules to the rest. It is becoming more and more difficult to keep track of all the players without good shop manuals.

Moscow’s Dinamo Elektrostal are gearing up for their fifth EHL season having frequently picked off impressive wins but have yet to top their particular group in their previous attempts.

They did get the best of arch rivals Dinamo Ak-Bars in both the Russian Cup and the Prometheus International tournament to show they are knocking on the door.

There has been a reasonable level of turnover from 2020 with Anton Noshin, Evgenii Mokrousov, Aleksei Godenkov and Ivan Zuikov joining the newly formed TsOP Moskomsport outfit. Danill Karagodin, Mikhail Nekludov and Ilya Larikov have all retired.

Their replacements are mostly youngsters with Dmitry Zheleznyakov, Aleksei Samylkin, Petr Agapov, Ilia Bartenev, Andrei Gribanov and Oleg Kulakov joining their line-up.

My conclusion is I'm not sure even one exist or if it does, you can't find one unless you are lucky enough to have a parts yard with one.     Actually that would be helpful information. I have the limited excursion 2002 with almost all power options, it had the original VSM in it. I also have a 2002 F350 and I pulled the VSM from there but it looks like it is the upgraded VSM. In 2002 they added the VSM which I assume also controls the door keypad. OLD VSM - 2C7T-15K602-AJ
