The 12 best all-inclusive cruises for 2024.

When most of the extra costs are paid before you sail, you can truly enjoy your cruise.

The Best All-Inclusive Cruises

Sit back and relax on an all-inclusive cruise vacation.

When it comes to all-inclusive cruises, there are a few different options:

  • Luxury cruise lines: All-inclusive cruise rates are available on luxury lines like Regent Seven Seas and Silversea. While more expensive than traditional cruise rates , the fares cover nearly everything, including door-to-door transfers, luxurious suite accommodations, specialty dining , premium alcoholic beverages and excursions. Plus, you don't need to show your cruise card every time you order a latte or a pre-dinner cocktail. You'll disembark the ship with very few, if any, additional charges on your final bill.
  • Cruise lines with inclusive pricing: Alternatively, you can consider an upscale cruise line like Viking, which offers fares with more-inclusive pricing and some of the amenities found on board the fully inclusive lines. However, you'll still have to budget for a few expenses, such as immersive excursions and alcoholic beverages beyond wine or beer at lunch and dinner.
  • Packages and add-ons: Other cruise lines like Oceania, Windstar and Norwegian offer add-on drink packages and other promos so you can create a more all-inclusive experience.

After comparing the costs between a truly all-inclusive cruise and a sailing with package pricing for the extras, the total price may be closer than you think.

Regent Seven Seas touts its six ships – with the newest vessel, Seven Seas Grandeur , which debuted in late 2023 – as "the world's most luxurious fleet." The line's intimate ships accommodate up to 750 guests. They feature all ocean-view suites, prestigious museum-quality art collections (including a prized Fabergé egg on the new Grandeur), and itineraries that call on more than 500 destinations around the world.

With Regent's "every luxury included" philosophy and 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares, passengers receive round-trip airfare and transfers between the airport and ship, as well as unlimited shore excursions, two- or three-night land programs (based on the itinerary), and a complimentary pre-cruise hotel package for concierge suites and higher. On the ship, enjoy a fully stocked in-suite minibar; specialty dining; unlimited fine wines, spirits and other beverages; prepaid gratuities; unlimited Wi-Fi; and free valet laundry service.

On top of personalized service, guests sailing on Regent Seven Seas cruises will enjoy immersive exploration ashore – with overnights in some ports of call – and enrichment programs. Top-notch dining includes French cuisine at Chartreuse (on select ships), Pan-Asian fare at Pacific Rim (also on select ships) and Italian fare at Sette Mari at La Veranda.

Cooking classes in the Culinary Arts Kitchen (available on Grandeur, Splendor and Explorer ), some tours and bespoke excursions, spa treatments, unique offerings, and certain wines and top-shelf liquors come with an additional cost.

Sailing on board one of Silversea's 13 ultra-luxury cruise or expedition ships commences with the line's new chauffeur experience. This door-to-door service transports guests from home to the airport and back home on the return trip. The line's all-inclusive pricing also encompasses international or domestic flights (with business class upgrades in certain destinations), pre- and post-cruise hotel accommodations, butler service in every suite, all gratuities, gourmet dining, and complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, including Champagne.

Other all-inclusive perks include at least one shore excursion in each port plus onboard lectures and programming. On expedition sailings in destinations like Antarctica , all guided Zodiac tours and landings are included in the fare.

When it comes to dining on Silversea ships, gourmet options feature French, Asian and Italian cuisine along with other international fare. For a special evening, S.A.L.T. Kitchen is a new destination-focused concept on Silver Ray, Nova , Moon and Dawn . This immersive dining experience, Sea And Land Taste, was developed in partnership with the former editor-in-chief of "Saveur Magazine," Adam Sachs. The culinary offerings with S.A.L.T. also include shore excursions, where guests can tour a 500-year-old family winery and vineyard in Croatia, visit an organic farm in Denmark, or learn to make gelato in Sicily.

Expenses not covered in Silversea's fare include salon and spa services, personal training sessions, select excursions, upgraded internet packages, and special bottles of wine or liquors.

Programs and treatments at Seabourn's Spa & Wellness are also at an additional cost.

Atlas Ocean Voyages

Atlas Ocean Voyages features "always included" cruise fares on its two purpose-built yachts, World Navigator and World Traveller. The line recently welcomed a third ship to its fleet for the 2023-24 Antarctica season, World Voyager. Atlas' high-end boutique ships cater to just 198 passengers and feature spacious staterooms and suites with panoramic windows or private balconies and beautiful public spaces and lounges. These small ships also have several options for dining, depending on the sailing and destination.

The all-inclusive fares cover complimentary dining; unlimited wines, craft beers and spirits; 24-hour bar service with canapes; a free in-room minibar; afternoon high tea; fresh-pressed juices and specialty teas and coffees; butler service; 24-hour room service; prepaid gratuities; cultural immersion in every port; and other perks.

Polar expedition fares cover private charter jet service, group transfers from the airport to the yacht, an Atlas Ocean Voyages parka and vest to take home, Zodiac sightseeing safaris, expert guided shore landings, and destination lectures and briefings.

If you're on one of the line's Epicurean Expeditions, the cultural immersion program offers complimentary special tastings, market visits and cooking demonstrations. In addition to use of the marina's water toys (on select sailings, weather permitting), guests can enjoy an authentic Portuguese dinner and an alfresco Josper Grill dining experience at 7-AFT Grill. On select voyages, culinary presentations, wine tastings and other special events are hosted by an expert.

More-Inclusive Cruises

Cruise fares with these lines include many of the amenities and perks that you'll find with the all-inclusive cruises. However, you'll still need to budget for some expenses, such as alcoholic beverages, excursions and specialty dining, depending on the line.

Covered main pool on a Viking ship

Viking's ocean fleet of nine 930-passenger all-veranda ships offers a nearly all-inclusive experience for guests. The upscale Scandinavian-inspired ships feature king-bed staterooms and suites with many amenities, including luxurious linens and plush robes, 24-hour room service, and free Wi-Fi – plus an in-room minibar with soft drinks, water and snacks. Higher-category staterooms on Viking Ocean Cruises come with additional perks like priority dinner and spa reservations, early stateroom access, and a welcome bottle of Champagne.

Cruise fares also include complimentary dining at all the venues; one free shore excursion in every port; beer, wine and soft drinks at lunch and dinner; specialty teas, coffee and bottled water; access to the spa; lectures and performances; port taxes and fees; and more.

Viking also has two 378-passenger Polar Class 6 expedition vessels, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris. These ships also offer a mostly all-inclusive experience with the same amenities as their oceangoing vessels. Pricing on the expedition sailings includes Zodiac safaris, the use of kayaks, a keepsake Viking jacket, and essential gear for excursions and landings.

Select excursions, pre- or post-dinner cocktails, spa treatments, special bottles of wine, and other optional purchases come at an additional expense.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships carry a maximum of 702 guests and offer immersive experiences around the world, calling on many smaller, lesser-known ports. The line also boasts more than 380 overnights and 850 late nights in port, so guests can have dinner in town and experience more of the destination's local culture and cuisine.

Azamara's cruise fares include all meals (other than the specialty dining restaurants) with water, tea and coffee. A selection of complimentary wine, sparkling wine, beer and spirits is available throughout the voyage. Cultural evenings ashore or on board the ship and gratuities are also included in the basic cruise fare.

If you'd like to enhance your onboard experience, Azamara offers inclusive "Experience More" packages that are discounted and based on the length of the voyage.

For example, on a seven-day or shorter sailing, solo travelers can add a package for $799 that's valued at $1,114 (a savings of 28%). This value-add bundle includes $350 of onboard credit to use for shore excursions; unlimited Wi-Fi for one device; a drinks package featuring premium wines, spirits and bottled water; a $150 spa credit; and a dinner at the Chef's Table or a total of three nights of specialty dining at Prime C or Aqualina. Three bags of laundry are also included.

Guests can book similar packages for double occupancy staterooms and longer voyages. You can also choose individual beverage, dining or internet packages if you don't need the extra amenities or features of the bundled options.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages' four superyacht-inspired ships are designed with adults in mind and feature 1,330 cabins (most with balconies) and 78 RockStar Quarters suites, where guests have access to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive outdoor deck space. Pricing with the adults-only cruise line includes stateroom or suite accommodations and meals at more than 20 eateries serving up international cuisine and dishes created by Michelin-starred chefs. Guests also have access to complimentary Wi-Fi; unlimited group exercise classes; nonalcoholic drinks such as water, tea and coffee; and plenty of lively entertainment.

Virgin does not offer beverage packages, but the line at times advertises special promotions that include voyage credits to cover expenses like airfare and drinks. Shore excursions and spa treatments – including skin care offerings on board Scarlet Lady in partnership with Jennifer Lopez, Virgin's chief entertainment and lifestyle officer – are some of the additional expenses not covered in the base fare.

Add-on Packages and All-Inclusive Fares

These five cruise lines offer basic cruise fares that cover accommodations and some amenities – and you can typically find special pricing and promotional deals throughout the year.

With the optional packages, guests can create a mostly all-inclusive voyage with bundles of add-on extras, such as shore excursions, beverage packages, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, gratuities or shipboard credit to cover miscellaneous personal expenses such as spa treatments or a bottle of wine for a special celebration.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania's eight small luxury ships carry between 648 and 1,238 guests. The line's newest ship – Vista , the first Allura Class vessel – debuted in Rome in May 2023. The beautifully appointed vessel features four new dining concepts, spacious standard staterooms at 290-plus square feet in size, new Concierge Level veranda accommodations for solo cruisers, an elevated mixology program and more.

Oceania's culinary program is touted by the line as "The Finest Cuisine at Sea" under the tutelage of Jacques Pépin, executive culinary director and master chef. Complimentary specialty dining is included in cruise fares on Oceania sailings. Pricing also covers airfare, still and sparkling water, specialty teas and coffees, soft drinks, and Wi-Fi on the ship.

Oceania's "OLife Choice" package provides additional value to your cruise with 2-for-1 cruise fares, free round-trip airfare and airport transfers – plus one free amenity you'll choose out of eight complimentary shore excursions, a beverage package or up to $800 in shipboard credit.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity offers special rates and packages throughout the year that save money over a la carte pricing – and elevate your onboard experience to be more inclusive. You'll be able to access the best deal on the added perks if you book the upgraded package before you sail, saving up to 40 to 50 percent of the actual cost.

The line's "All-Included" package bundles the most popular add-ons for cruisers: a standard beverage package for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, unlimited basic Wi-Fi, and gratuities for the staff and crew. Pricing depends on the stateroom or suite category and sailing.

There are other options when booking a cruise with Celebrity to create a more upscale and all-inclusive experience. Guests staying in all-suite The Retreat have exclusive access to a sundeck (on select ships), a lounge and Luminae – a private restaurant that features Global Culinary Ambassador Daniel Boulud at the helm. Guests of The Retreat booking the "All-Included" package receive a premium beverage package, premium unlimited Wi-Fi, gratuities and an onboard credit.

If you book AquaClass accommodations, you'll also have access to complimentary amenities and perks, such as unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite, discounts on spa treatment packages and complimentary fitness classes. In addition, you'll also find a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival (by request) and two bottles of water refreshed daily in your room. AquaClass guests also have exclusive access to the restaurant Blu. You can add the "All-Included" package to your booking, which will include the Classic Drinks Package, basic Wi-Fi and gratuities.

Passengers who want to book this "All-Included" package and are sharing a stateroom or suite will need to book the same package.

Norwegian also offers promotional fares and special deals throughout the year that feature similar amenities and perks to what you'll find on an all-inclusive cruise. The "Free at Sea" deal bundles discounts on the cruise, free specialty dining, unlimited open bar privileges, shore excursion credits, savings on Wi-Fi access, discounts on the third and fourth guests in the stateroom, and a 2-for-1 deal on airfare.

"Free at Sea Plus" takes the package up a notch with a more comprehensive beverage selection, including top-shelf cocktails, Champagne by the glass, bottles of select premium wines at dinner and signature Starbucks coffee drinks. This option also includes unlimited Wi-Fi, additional nights of specialty dining and shore excursions.

Prices for both packages on Norwegian Cruise Line will depend on the dates, length and destination of the cruise.

Cheap Caribbean Cruises - Cruises to Caribbean

Featured caribbean cruise deals, cruising guide, why cruise to the caribbean.

Thousands of islands make up the Caribbean, a tropical region stretching across the Atlantic Ocean. Home to some of the most popular cruise ports in the world, the Caribbean offers variations on a theme: sun, white-sand beaches and fun with a local twist, depending on the port. From Dutch and French isles to U.S. territories, the destinations of the Caribbean have cultural experiences to spare that extend well beyond the tip of the umbrella in your fruity cocktail.

A cruise offers the chance to visit multiple islands within the span of a few days, providing visitors with a sampler of new places plus balmy sea breezes along the way. Caribbean cruises offer endless variety giving vacationers the chance to get away for a long weekend or two weeks. With so many departure ports, your ship to the Caribbean might be a short flight or even a drive away.

What are Popular Activities in the Caribbean?

The Caribbean offers as much -- or as little – as you want to do during your time ashore, making it an ideal cruise vacation for families or for couples.

Water sports are abundant in the Caribbean and anyone who likes spending time in the sea will enjoy snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding and swimming through clear, turquoise waters like the remote beaches of Bonaire. Or fly high through the sky on a number of active zipline courses, including the steepest zipline in the world in St. Maarten. Lazily lounging on the beach is almost always a fantastic option. Pair a beach day with a hike on a day trip from St. Thomas to Virgin Island National Park in St. John.

If you need a break from the sun, air-conditioned island tours, duty-free shopping trips and even scenic rail trips -- such as the one around St. Kitts -- provide wonderful ways to spend a day off the ship.

All-inclusive lovers will be able to pamper themselves with excursions to resorts, while those looking for a more local flavor will be able to learn from chefs, artisans and other experts for an authentic taste of each island's culture

When is a Good Time to Cruise to the Caribbean?

Winter and spring are great seasons to travel to the Caribbean due to a slight reduction in crowds and moderate temperatures, though the warm weather holds year-round here.

Atlantic hurricane season, from June through October, means a higher chance of rain and possible storms, though summer is still one of the most popular times to visit the Caribbean. If you book a summer sailing in a Caribbean region within the hurricane zone, there's a chance nothing will happen -- but buying insurance and keeping a flexible schedule helps manage expectations.

What are Popular Ports in the Caribbean?

Cozumel, St. Thomas, Grand Cayman and St. Martin/Maarten are some of the most common ports of call in the Caribbean. You could also experience Jamaica, Cuba, Aruba, Grand Turk or the Dominican Republic. Many Caribbean cruises also include stops at private islands, such as Royal Caribbean's CocoCay or Disney's Castaway Cay, located in The Bahamas.

Where do Caribbean cruises depart from?

Caribbean cruises depart from ports around the U.S., including San Juan, Puerto Rico. Many of the top Caribbean cruise departure ports are located in Florida: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando.

Elsewhere on the East Coast and Gulf Coast, Caribbean sailings depart from Baltimore, Manhattan, Galveston, New Orleans, Mobile and more. Caribbean islands and itinerary lengths will vary, depending on where you sail from and where you're sailing to.

What are Popular Regions of the Caribbean?

Choose from Eastern, Western or Southern Caribbean itineraries. You’ll primarily find the U.S. Virgin Islands -- St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John -- on Eastern Caribbean sailings, as well as St. Maarten/Martin and the Dominican Republic. The ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) are featured on Southern Caribbean cruises. Western Caribbean cruises often include ports in Mexico and Jamaica, along with Belize and Grand Turk.

Lengths also vary -- Western Caribbean itineraries can be limited to just a few days for those who want a quick getaway or don't have time for longer sailings. Southern Caribbean sailings tend to last at least 10 nights, and these often depart from San Juan. Eastern Caribbean sailings are typically a week long.

What are Tips to Find Cruise deals to the Caribbean?

Here are our best tips for finding a cheap cruise or cruise deal to the Caribbean. If you book a “guaranteed cabin” (they select for you), a cabin on a lower deck or sail on an older ship from a brand you like, then you can get the best price for a specific cruise to the Caribbean. Last minute cruises deals to the Caribbean appear as you get closer to the sail date, usually 1-2 weeks in advance. Taking a cruise to the Caribbean in the shoulder season (before or after the peak season) can also be a great way to find a cruise deal.

Why should you book a vacation package to the Caribbean?

When should you book a vacation package to the caribbean.

The Caribbean experiences hot weather throughout the year with the highest rainfall being in May. The average temperature is about 81 degrees Fahrenheit and the months between January and April are the best for holidaying.

In these months after the conclusion of the most hectic season, vacation packages are cheaper. At year's end various carnivals take place on islands such as Curaçao and Aruba.

Where should you stay in the Caribbean during your vacation?

For any vacation type in the caribbean:.

If you prefer to explore the island of Aruba, then either an all-inclusive or a beachfront hotel is a good pick. The Marriot Resort is a beachfront hotel with a surf club, a spacious dining area, swimming pools, and a casino.

If you opt for the British Virgin Islands, then the beachfront Anegada Beach Club is a viable option. It houses a bar and restaurant within walking distance of a spectacular coral reef ideal for snorkeling. Both hotels offer an inclusive pick-up from the airport.

For family vacations in the Caribbean:

Cruise line all-inclusive packages: Everything you need to know

Donna Heiderstadt

Editor's Note

Luxury lines aren't the only ones offering all-inclusive cruise packages these days. Mainstream and upscale cruise lines, which traditionally have offered a basic fare and then charged passengers a la carte for onboard expenses, have begun to offer more inclusive fare add-ons. Cruisers are buzzing about these new options, which allow them to pay upfront for popular amenities and not feel nickel-and-dimed on board.

This new pricing strategy, which goes beyond popular drinks packages , has large-ship cruise lines such as Celebrity, Holland America and Princess jockeying to compete with luxury lines and their all-inclusive fares. Small-ship cruise lines Azamara and Windstar have also hopped on the trend.

These packages are designed to make the cruise experience hassle-free by allowing passengers to pay for most of their onboard expenses — such as beverages, Wi-Fi and gratuities — before they board. However, they might not always be the best option for every cruiser.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Here's a look at which cruise lines offer all-inclusive packages, what's included, how much they cost and the factors that can make them a great deal or a potential waste of money.

Celebrity Cruises' All Included package

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

The package

Celebrity Cruises — known for having a grown-up, bar-centric ambience on board its ships — offers an All Included cruise fare on any itinerary (excluding the Galapagos Islands). With this fare type, passengers get two included amenities: basic Wi-Fi and Celebrity's Classic beverage package.

The package used to include crew tips, but Celebrity removed that benefit in 2023.

What's the cost of the All Included package? That depends on the destination, itinerary length and time of year. Celebrity Cruises would not provide an average, but in all the fares we priced out, passengers could expect to pay $70 per person, per day, above the base cruise fare. However, it's possible the difference in pricing can be higher on certain cruises.

When browsing for cruises on Celebrity's website, the prices you will see are the Cruise Only fares (except when noted, mostly on Retreat and AquaClass categories). During the booking process (right after cabin selection), you can choose either the higher All Included fare or the lower-priced Cruise Only fare.

Tip: If you'd like to book a balcony cabin at the All Included price, always price out AquaClass and Concierge cabins, as well. Those room types, which offer extra amenities, sometimes cost just a few dollars more (or even less) at the cruise-only fare than a veranda cabin with the add-on package.

All passengers on the reservation must select the same fare. One person can't book All Included and the other Cruise Only. Families sailing in the same cabin must all book the same fare type, although underage passengers will only have access to nonalcoholic beverages.

The two amenities that come with an All Included booking are typically priced as follows:

  • Classic beverage package: $89 per person, per day, plus a 20% bar gratuity on every drink ordered
  • Basic Wi-Fi: $20 per person, per day

The Classic beverage package only includes drinks priced up to $10. Note that the All Included fare covers the bar gratuity normally charged to guests who purchase a beverage package independently.

Celebrity's Basic Wi-Fi plan is its value-priced option, which offers access to basic web functions: texting on messenger services, web browsing and email.

Let's crunch the numbers. Bought a la carte, Celebrity's Classic beverage package and basic Wi-Fi will cost $109 per person, per day; you will be on the hook for a 20% automatic bar gratuity on each drink ordered.

At $70 extra per person, per day, Celebrity's All Included fares are a good value for cruisers who plan to toss back multiple basic cocktails daily — there's no daily limit — and are content with basic Wi-Fi.

Passengers who book All Included fares can also opt to upgrade to the Premium beverage package (for drinks costing up to $17) for an additional $20 per person per day. This must be done within the Cruise Planner platform after final payment is made and up to two days prior to sailing.

Alternatively, they can pay the overage ($2 on a $12 glass of wine or cocktail, for instance) plus a 20% gratuity on the overage.

That puts the total cost of the All Included package at roughly $90 per person, per day, with the upgraded drinks package. Celebrity's Premium beverage package is regularly priced at $109 per person per day, plus there's an automatic 20% gratuity added to the package price (bringing the total daily cost to $130.80).

That means passengers already considering the Premium Beverage Package will definitely save by purchasing the All Included package.

Celebrity cruisers can also upgrade their package to Premium Wi-Fi — which allows messaging and video chat on messenger services, web browsing, email, social media posting, video chat live and watching videos and movies. The upgrade costs an additional $10 per person per day.

The difference between the All Included package cost with basic or premium Wi-Fi is the same as if you purchased a Wi-Fi plan a la carte.

Holland America's Have It All

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

Passengers booking a cruise on any Holland America ship now have the option to get four premium amenities included with the Have It All package . The line's premium package makes a HAL cruise semi-inclusive when passengers upgrade their base fare.

Here's what's included:

  • The Signature beverage package, which includes wines, beers, spirits, cocktails and nonalcoholic options (such as sodas and specialty coffees) that cost $11 and under, as well as bar gratuities. There's a daily limit of 15 beverages per person.
  • Specialty dining, with one dinner at either Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto or Tamarind included on a six- to nine-night cruise; two dinners on a 12- to 20-night cruise; and three dinners on a cruise of 21 days or longer (excluding Grand Voyages).
  • Wi-Fi Surf package for web surfing, social media and email on one device.
  • Shore excursions credit of $100 per person on a six- to nine-night cruise, $200 on a 12- to 20-night cruise and $300 on a cruise that's 21 days or longer (excluding Grand Voyages).

Related: What's included in your cruise fare?

Right now, the Have It All package costs $50 per person, per day (reduced from $99 per day as of April 21, 2023). This price reduction is a temporary promotion, and an end date is not specified. When it does change, other perks may be added to the promotion.

Two passengers sharing a cabin must both select Have It All at the time of booking. Unlike most cruise all-inclusive packages, however, HAL's Have It All doesn't include crew gratuities. These will be added to passengers' onboard accounts at $16 per person, per day for guests in cabins and $17.50 per day for guests in suites.

Here is what all the elements of the Have It All package would cost if purchased separately for a seven-night cruise:

  • Shore excursion credit: $100 per person, per cruise
  • Specialty dining: $25-$40, based on restaurant selected
  • Wi-Fi: $105 (at $15 per day)
  • Signature beverage package: $384.65 (at $54.95 per person, per day)

Right now, the Have It All package costs $350 per person for a seven-night cruise, which is actually less than the $384.65 Holland America charges for its Signature beverage package for a cruise of this length. Plus, passengers get an extra $230 to $245 in shore excursion, specialty dining and Wi-Fi perks. So, at the $50 per person, per day rate, the Have It All Package is a terrific value, even for moderate drinkers.

However, when the price reverts to $99 per person, per day, or $693 per person for a seven-night cruise, the Signature beverage package ($384.65) and shore excursion, specialty dining and Wi-Fi perks ($245) only add up to $629.65. That's $63.95 less than Have It All pricing. Although, with Have It All, service charges of 18% per beverage (or $1.98 per $11 beverage) are included.

So, if you drink around 33 beverages costing $11 on a seven-night cruise (or about five a day) you can break even. And remember, you'll still need to pay daily crew gratuities.

According to Holland America, other/additional perks may become available with the Have It All package when the price changes.

Princess Plus and Princess Premier

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

Princess Cruises continues to modify the amenities included in its Princess Plus package , which the cruise line says offers at least a 50% savings over a la carte costs (based on a seven-night cruise). Passengers can also book the Princess Premier package for additional included perks said to offer more than 65% savings.

Princess Plus is priced at $60 per person, per day. What's included?

  • Plus Beverage Package, which includes drinks up to $15 (with a 15-drink alcoholic beverage limit per day)
  • Wi-Fi for one device per guest ($15 per day if booked separately)
  • Crew appreciation, aka gratuities ($16 per person per day for stateroom guests or $18 per person per day for suite guests)
  • Two "premium desserts" per day (purchased at the Gelateria, Swirls or Coffee and Cones)
  • Two fitness classes per cruise
  • Unlimited juice bar drinks
  • Two "casual dining" meals per guest, per cruise (at casual sit-down restaurants, like Alfredo's and Kai Sushi, and pop-up venues, like Planks and Steamers)
  • Room service delivery at no extra charge
  • OceanNow delivery (ordering food and items on your app to wherever you are on board) at no extra charge

Princess Premier costs $80 per person, per day. It features the following perks:

  • Premier beverage package, which includes drinks up to $20 (with a 15-drink alcoholic beverage limit per day)
  • Wi-Fi for up to four devices per guest
  • Crew appreciation
  • Two specialty dining meals per guest
  • Photo package (unlimited digital plus three prints up to 8 inches by 10 inches in size)
  • Unlimited "premium desserts" (at Gelateria, Swirls or Coffee and Cones)
  • Unlimited fitness classes
  • Wearable Medallion accessory
  • Reserved theater seating for production shows
  • Unlimited casual dining
  • OceanNow delivery at no extra charge
  • Princess Prizes (a chance to win extras like a wine tasting, Chef's Table experience, onboard credit or even a free cruise)

For either plan, each beverage package also includes bar gratuities (18% per beverage when ordered without the Plus or Premier packages). Passengers under 21 will automatically receive the Zero Alcohol package, which includes fountain sodas, juice bar, fresh juices, bottled water, specialty coffees and teas, frappes, milkshakes and Red Bull energy drinks.

Both packages are capacity-controlled and, if sold out, may not be available for all cabin categories at the time of booking; if available, they can also be purchased on the first day of a cruise.

The first and second guests in a cabin must each book the same Plus or Premier package, but the third and fourth guests are not obligated to do so, meaning a family doesn't have to pay for amenities that kids won't use.

Wi-Fi, specialty dining and the photo package are shareable, so a family of four with two parents on the Princess Premier plan can have their children's devices on Wi-Fi, take home great family photos and enjoy one specialty dining experience with the entire family.

It might take a while to add up the cost of all the amenities, but you don't have to. For couples, the Princess Plus package is a no-brainer.

Wi-Fi and crew appreciation (totaling $31-$33 per person, per day) alone account for more than 50% of the $60 per person, per day (or $420 per person for a seven-night cruise) package charge. With less than $30 per day left to break even and with drinks up to $15 included, you don't have to overindulge to get your money's worth. Those premium desserts, casual meals, fitness classes and unlimited juice bar beverages are the icing on the cake.

For $80 per person, per day, or $540 per person for a seven-night cruise, Princess Premier offers additional savings — mostly if you already planned on purchasing a beverage package and think you'll use at least some of the other perks.

Related: Are cruise line drinks packages worth the price? What to know before you buy

The Premier Beverage Package costs $84.99 per person, per day, which is more than the price of the Princess Premier all-inclusive package. If you prefer premium wines and spirits and were planning on purchasing the upgraded drinks package, Princess Premier will more than pay for itself.

The two specialty dining meals are valued at $74 per person, per cruise, or more; this also gets you close to breaking even if you weren't going to purchase a beverage package. Wi-Fi for up to four devices normally costs $40 per day or $280 per seven-night cruise. Combine the two, and you're already ahead. Unlimited desserts, casual dining, fitness classes and juice bar drinks only add to your value.

The bottom line: At $80 per day, Princess Premier can be a good value — especially in comparison to other cruise-line all-inclusive packages costing the same or even more.

Azamara's Experience More

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

While Azamara 's basic cruise fares already include crew gratuities and standard spirits, beers and select wines (a choice of two whites, two reds and a rose daily), the cruise line's Experience More packages bundle additional onboard amenities at savings of 27% to 32%.

There are four options priced per couple/cabin and one designed for solo travelers. All are available on cruises of eight days or longer, with the exception of one package specific to shorter sailings (seven days or fewer).

The least expensive option for two people sharing a cabin is the Experience More Essentials package. It includes a Premium Beverage Package for two (with additional beer and spirits selections), unlimited Wi-Fi for one device and a $300 shore excursion credit. It's priced at $699 per cabin.

The Experience More on Short Cruises package is the only one available on sailings of seven days or fewer. It includes the Ultimate Beverage Package for two, unlimited Wi-Fi for one device, a $200 shore excursion credit, a $100 onboard spa credit, Chef's Table (a multicourse tasting menu) or Three Table Tour (one night at Aqualina, one night at Prime C and one night at your choice of restaurant) and one bag of laundry per voyage. It's priced at $799 for two people in the same cabin.

Related: Why you should splurge on a cruise ship specialty restaurant

The Experience More Enjoyment package includes the Premium Beverage Package for two, unlimited Wi-Fi for two devices, a $500 shore excursion credit and a $200 onboard spa credit. It's priced at $1,099 for two people.

The most comprehensive option for two people is the Experience More Indulgence package. It includes the Ultimate Beverage Package for two, unlimited Wi-Fi for two devices, $700 shore excursion credit, $250 onboard spa credit, Chef's Table or Three Table Tour, and five bags of laundry during the voyage. It's priced at $1,599 for two people.

Singles can get in on the savings, too, with the Experience More for Solo Travelers package. It features the Ultimate Beverage Package for one, unlimited Wi-Fi for one device, a $350 shore excursions credit, a $150 onboard spa credit, Chef's Table or Three Table Tour, and three bags of laundry during the voyage. It's priced at $899 per person.

What's the difference between the Premium and Ultimate beverage packages in these offers? The Premium package includes a larger selection of beer than the included list, plus name-brand spirits such as Absolut, Captain Morgan and Bombay Sapphire. The Ultimate package includes all the Premium offerings plus a selection of wine and Champagne by the glass, Evian and Perrier water and more top-shelf spirits.

If bought separately, the Premium package costs $16.95 per person, per day, and the Ultimate package costs $23.95 per person, per day.

Azamara has done the math for passengers:

  • Experience More Essentials: priced at $699, valued at $958.50
  • Experience More on Short Cruises: priced at $799, valued at $1,103
  • Experience More Enjoyment: priced at $1,099, valued at $1,637
  • Experience More Indulgence: priced at $1,599, valued at $2,357
  • Experience More for Solo Travelers: priced at $899, valued at $1,224

If you already plan on booking shore excursions and specialty dining reservations, enjoying wine and spirits beyond those included in the cruise fare, using Wi-Fi and paying for amenities such as specialty dining or spa treatments, the all-inclusive upgrades offer good value.

However, if you don't plan to take advantage of all the extra-fee services on board, you'll need to do the math around the amenities you would use to determine whether a package is right for you.

Windstar Cruises' All-Inclusive Fare and All-In Package

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

Windstar Cruises offers an All-Inclusive Fare option for a set daily fee. For Windstar, all-inclusive means unlimited beverages, unlimited Wi-Fi and all gratuities. Passengers can also still opt to book a base cruise-only fare and pay for onboard expenses on an a la carte basis.

Passengers who choose the All-Inclusive Fare prepay $89 per person, per day; the package must be booked within five days of the sail date. Those who book a cruise-only fare can also purchase the All-In Package for $99 per person, per day once they are on board.

Both the inclusive fares and onboard package cover unlimited Wi-Fi, crew gratuities and wine, beer and cocktails ordered on board (as well as the 18% beverage service charge usually tacked onto bar bills).

We took a look at the a la carte items included in the inclusive package to determine the value of Windstar's offering (based on a weeklong sailing).

  • Crew gratuities: $16 per person, per day
  • Beverage package: $65 (for Captain's Exclusive Beverage Package, which includes cocktails, aperitifs and more). These also incur an 18% service charge.
  • Unlimited Wi-Fi: $245 for a seven-night cruise ($35 per person, per day)

Wi-Fi and tips account for $51 of the $89 daily charge before factoring in bar charges. That leaves $38 for beverages. So, the value is there with the All-Inclusive Fare if you plan to enjoy at least three or four alcoholic beverages daily throughout your cruise — and you'll avoid the added service charges.

However, guests who only indulge in the occasional glass of wine or cocktail will not see the full value of the package. Similarly, passengers who prefer to buy one of Windstar's cheaper, more limited usage Wi-Fi plans (200 megabytes or 500 megabytes of data) or intend to share the cost of the Unlimited Wi-Fi plan by logging in one device at a time, might find the $89 or $99 daily charge is not worth it.

Bottom line

Should you upgrade to one of these packages? While convenience is certainly a motivating factor, whether a plan has value depends in most cases on what you think your bar tab will be.

If vacation mode means you'll be tossing back tropical cocktails at the pool all day or enjoying multiple glasses of wine at both lunch and dinner, booking an all-inclusive package is a smart option. If you're not a big drinker or enthusiastic social media user, the better deal is sometimes to stick with the basic fare and pay as you go for what you use.

What’s Included in a Cruise?

Every cruise includes accommodation, meals, entertainment, and on-board activities. Drinks such as water, squash, tea, and coffee are also included free of charge. Other drinks can either be purchased individually using your cruise card, or you can pre-book a drinks package offering unlimited drinks.

If you’re starting your cruise from a port outside of the UK, it makes sense to have a travel agent such as ourselves book your flights and transfers at the same time as booking your cruise. As well as making sure you get the best package deal, we also give you ATOL protection should anything happen.

Why Choose All-inclusive Cruises?

Booking an all-inclusive cruise gives you the peace of mind that everything is included in your holiday and that it’s all been paid for in advance. You won’t have any surprise bills at the end of your cruise and, unless you want to get souvenirs from the on-board shops or hit the casino, you might not need any holiday spending money whatsoever!

Cruises with Free Drinks Packages

Many people search for all-inclusive cruises with alcohol included. However, what you might not know, is that ANY cruise can be made all-inclusive by adding on a drinks package. The cost of a drinks package varies depending on the cruise line and length of sailing.

From time to time, cruise lines have promotions which offer free drinks. These offers may only be available for certain stateroom types, such as balcony cabins, or you may be able to pay a set fee to upgrade to all-inclusive, such as in the Norwegian Cruise Line Free at Sea promotion.

Sometimes cruise lines have a price for a cruise-only deal and another price for an all-inclusive deal. If you give us a call, we can always give you a price with and without drinks included so that you can choose the one which works best for your budget.

All-Inclusive Fly Cruises

All-inclusive cruise packages including alcohol and flights are very popular, and for an even more convenient experience, we can also package up anything else you might need such as a pre-cruise hotel stay or airport transfers. Whether you’re looking for an all-inclusive fly cruise , a cruise to the Caribbean with everything included or cheap all-inclusive cruises from Southampton , we have plenty of offerings here at Cruise118.com.

Do You Need a Passport When Going on a Cruise?

Yes, It’s a good practice to bring your passport when traveling by cruise ship. However, they are itineraries that let you take part in the cruise without it.

What makes a cruise all-inclusive?

The all-inclusive fare covers non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, specialty dining, onboard activities, use of water sports equipment, select shore excursions, and gratuities.

Some packages also include round-trip airfare from major cities and pre-cruise hotel accommodations.

What is a guaranteed cabin?

If you choose a guaranteed cabin when booking a cruise, you will be assigned a room in your selected category. However, you will have little say in which specific room you get within that category.

While there is a chance that you may be upgraded to a higher-quality cabin if there are any available, there is also a risk that you may end up with a less desirable room. Some people have reported being “upgraded” to a cabin worse than the one they originally booked.

Will I get seasick?

You won’t notice much rocking when the weather is excellent and the waves are calm, especially on big, modern ships.

If you frequently get motion sickness, research seasickness prevention before going on your next holiday at sea.

Will I feel claustrophobic?

Only the tiniest oceangoing vessels cause us to feel cramped. Ships, fortunately, come in a variety of sizes. You could forget you’re out on the sea because some are as big as shopping malls and can easily hold thousands of people.

Booking a stateroom with a porthole or balcony is advised if you anticipate feeling anxious.

10 Best All-inclusive Resorts for Families in the Caribbean

The best all-inclusive family resorts include kid-centric programming, dedicated family pools, and water parks.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

The Caribbean is a popular family vacation destination because of its year-round warm, sunny weather, white-sand beaches, breathtakingly clear waters, and easy access from the East Coast. What really makes the difference for many families, though, is this idyllic region's abundance of incredible all-inclusive resorts.

These resorts offer everything families need for a perfect vacation in one convenient package — accommodations, meals, drinks, and activities. The Caribbean's best all-inclusive resorts for families also make space for child-centric programming like kids clubs, dedicated family pools, and even on-site water parks.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up the best family-friendly all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean to book for your next warm-weather getaway with kids — including a private island oasis in Antigua and a sprawling resort on the Turks and Caicos archipelago.

Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive

Divi & Tamarijn

Also available to book at Expedia.com and Hotels.com

Located along a serene stretch of Eagle Beach, Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive boasts a prime oceanfront location plus an abundance of kid-friendly activities and amenities, like a state-of-the-art kids club and biking, snorkeling, and pickleball.

The kids club is only open on weekdays.

Families can soak up the sun at Tamarijn Aruba, which happens to be on Travel + Leisure ’s list of the best all-inclusives in Aruba . Kids ages 4-12 can stay, play, and eat free at the Sea Turtles Club, where they'll enjoy crafting, face painting, movie screenings, bingo, kite-making, and tie-dye.

Meanwhile, adults can post up on the beach or at one of the four pools — or indulge in a spa treatment — before regrouping for family-friendly fun like biking, snorkeling, pickleball, tennis, and basketball. A stay here also grants you access to over 15 restaurants and bars (including options at sister property Divi Aruba), meaning picky eaters of all ages have plenty of choices.

"I stayed at The Tamarijn with friends, and there was nothing like starting and ending the day on the balcony, listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore directly in front of our room," said T+L contributor Jacquline Dole .

The Details:

  • Inclusions: All food and drink, activities, and gratuities
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 4-12
  • Location: Oranjestad, Aruba
  • Rates: Start at $845 per night based on two adults

Beaches Turks and Caicos

Beaches Turks & Caicos

Also available to book at Expedia.com

This all-inclusive has everything you could ever want or need for a fun-filled family vacation: 20-plus restaurants, dozens of complimentary activities, a massive water park, and complimentary kids club programming for children ages 0-17.

Since the resort is pretty crowded, you must wake up early to secure beach chairs for the whole family.

Beaches Turks and Caicos offers a 45,000-square-foot water park, 21 restaurants, 10 sparkling swimming pools, and miles of sugar-sand beaches. Little ones can mix and mingle with their favorite Sesame Street characters while adolescents can hit up the Xbox Play Lounge or teen disco. The kids camp offers specialized, complimentary facilities for children of all ages, including an Infant Program (ages 0-2), a Toddler Program (ages 3-4), a Navigators Program (ages 5-7), the Adventurers Program (ages 8-10), a Tweens Program (ages 11-14), and Teen Program (ages 15-17). Beaches is also a Certified Autism Center with specially trained staff to support children with specialized needs.

The 758-room property is divided into five villages, which makes its sprawling size feel a little less overwhelming. While you can’t go wrong with any of the room categories, larger families will appreciate the ultra-luxe three- and four-bedroom villas, which include private butler service.

"I was genuinely floored by how many places there are to eat — the food options can satisfy picky eaters and those looking for fine-dining options," said Anna Popp , associate commerce editor at T+L.

  • Inclusions: Unlimited drinking and dining, gratuities, unlimited land sports, non-motorized water sports, scuba diving, water park access
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 0-17
  • Location: Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
  • Rates: Start at $424 per adult per night and $38 per child per night

Royalton Negril, Autograph Collection

Royalton Negril

Set on a secluded stretch of sand, Royalton Negril, Autograph Collection offers spacious all-suite accommodations and active pursuits like non-motorized water sports and tennis.

Spa access isn't included.

All ages will enjoy a stay at the sun-soaked Royalton Negril, Autograph Collection — take it from me. Even though my family stayed at the attached adults-only sister property, the Hideaway at Royalton Negril, we shared many amenities, including activities, bars, and restaurants.

Dining highlights include the excellent buffet with a separate kids section for comfort classics like chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks, a coffee and gelato shop that serves up refreshing sweet treats, and a lively hibachi eatery where singing and dancing are very encouraged.

While you sip tropical cocktails at the swim-up bar or enjoy the spa, children ages 4-12 can play at the kids club, and adolescents can play video games, ping pong, and tennis at the teen club. The beach area on the family-friendly side is expansive and hosts non-motorized water sports like Hobie Cats and paddle boards.

At the end of an action-packed day, retreat to your luxury suite. The family suites are especially popular because they have privacy doors between the sofa area and the main room, and the bathrooms have Jacuzzis for an extra-luxe touch. I recommend splurging on The Diamond Club, which includes butler service. Helpful staff members are on hand to reserve beach chairs, deliver food and drinks, and arrange dinner reservations — which comes in handy in the peak season around the holidays when groups trying to secure large tables line up at the restaurants.

  • Inclusions: Unlimited dining and drinking, daily entertainment and nightly shows, water sports, splash pad
  • Location: Negril, Jamaica
  • Rates: Start at $330 per night per adult and $440 per night for one adult and one child

Grand Palladium Jamaica

Taylor McIntyre / Travel + Leisure

This newly renovated hotel stands out for its sleek rooms and suites, ample activities and amenities, 20-plus drinking and dining venues, and sparkling swimming pools, including Jamaica’s largest.

The property’s large size means lots of walking.

Fresh off a multimillion-dollar renovation, Grand Palladium Jamaica in Montego Bay will delight you with five pools, 23 drinking and dining venues, and a seemingly endless amount of complimentary activities and entertainment offerings such as live reggae bands, kids Olympics, non-motorized water sports, and mini golf.

The property also has a Baby Club for kids 1-3 years old, a Mini Club for children ages 4-12, and the Black & White Junior Club for tweens and teens. We'd be remiss not to mention the newly refreshed rooms and suites, each featuring contemporary decor and furnishings, private terraces, and hydromassage bathtubs.

"I visited the Grand Palladium Jamaica in September 2023 after it underwent a $27.5 million renovation. The resort sticks to its name by being truly grand... [It] strikes a nice balance of lively party and serenity, allowing guests to really make their own adventure," said T+L senior visual editor Taylor McIntyre .

  • Inclusions: Drinking and dining, daytime and evening entertainment, kids activities, non-motorized water sports, gratuities
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 1-17
  • Location: Montego Bay, Jamaica

Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa

Also available to book at Booking.com

This all-inclusive resort is ideal for adventure-seeking families and boasts a mile-long beach, a sprawling paintball course, and St. Lucia’s largest water park.

The water can be a bit choppy since the property is located on the Atlantic side of St. Lucia.

At Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa, three of the five pools are designed for families: the zero-entry Splash Pool with its sloping entrance, the Activity Pool, where you and your fam can play volleyball, and the Splash Plunge Pool. The property is also home to the island’s largest water park — CocoLand, which boasts slides and a lazy river.

It gets better: The resort is home to a 30,000-square-foot paintball course. There are also eight restaurants, seven bars, and a mile-long white-sand beach where you can play volleyball, throw horseshoes, go kitesurfing, and partake in action-packed water sports. Other activities and entertainment offerings include reggae lessons, themed beach parties, karaoke, tennis, and basketball. Caretakers may also send little ones ages 3-12 to the CocoLand Kidz Klub.

Splash, the family-friendly accommodations wing, offers spacious rooms and suites with private patios and separate seating areas, including connecting units for larger groups.

  • Inclusions: Unlimited drinking and dining, water park, daytime and nighttime entertainment, gratuities

Club Med Punta Cana

With unlimited land and water sports like sailing and trapeze, Club Med Punta Cana appeals to active families.

There are only three restaurants.

Club Med Punta Cana spans 100 oceanfront acres and is Club Med’s flagship family-friendly property. Trust me: There’s something for everyone here. The value-packed amenities, like complimentary sailing lessons and a state-of-the-art circus and trapeze facility, blew me away. These are just a few of the over 30 activities included in your stay, including archery, pickleball, snorkeling, kayaking, and tennis and dance lessons.

I admit I didn’t travel here with children, but I was impressed with the kid- and family-friendly programming, including exclusive spaces like a dedicated pool. Baby Club Med and Petit Club Med are available for kids 0-2 and 2-3, respectively. Mini Club Med, suited for ages 4-10, offers activities like sailing and archery lessons. There’s also Teen Club Med (ages 11-13) and Chill Pass Club Med (ages 14-17). If you're traveling with a big crew, stay in one of the newly renovated, tropical-inspired two-bedroom family suites.

  • Kids Club: Free for children ages 4-17; club for ages 0-4 is an additional cost
  • Location: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • Rates: Start at $170 per person per night

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana is a luxurious family-oriented resort with spacious all-suite accommodations, plus noteworthy amenities like a massive water park.

Located in Punta Cana's swanky resort area, Cap Cana, this all-inclusive resort has ample amenities, including a water park complete with a lazy river, a massive infinity pool, a stunning beach area, and 12 restaurants and bars. The kids and teens clubs offer interactive activities, supervised games, and even VR simulators. During the day, you can partake in non-motorized water sports and volleyball before enjoying family-friendly music and dance performances in the evening at the outdoor amphitheater.

Henley Vazquez , T+L A-list travel advisor and Fora co-founder, describes the property as “popular with advisors and travelers because it has incredible activities for kids during the day — including great water slides — and lovely amenities for adults, too.” Additionally, “The rooms are beautiful, the food is great, and you can fly directly into Punta Cana, which makes it convenient, too.”

  • Inclusions: Food and drink, water park access, land and non-motorized water sports, live entertainment

Curtain Bluff

Also available to book at Hotels.com and Tripadvisor.com

This serene 72-room resort is unique because it offers both non-motorized and motorized water sports at no additional cost. Plus, it has not one but two private beaches.

There are no performances or lively nightlife activities besides live music during dinner.

The World’s Best Award-winning Curtain Bluff in Antigua is unique because it offers an intimate and refined feel — which is rare for an inclusive property. Although the property has just 72 rooms and suites, families have plenty of room to roam out on the sand on the two private beaches. Cee Bee Kids Camp is great for kids ages 3-10 who like to craft, sail, and snorkel.

“What I love about Curtain Bluff is that when they say all-inclusive, they mean all-inclusive — even the water sports!” says Vazquez. She continues, “You can go and read a book on the beach while your kids are learning how to sail at no additional cost.”

  • Inclusions: All meals and drinks, water sports, land activities
  • Kids Club:  Free, available for children ages 3-10
  • Location: Old Road, Antigua
  • Rates: Start at $1,050

Jumby Bay feels like your very own private oasis — and that’s because it is.

It’s definitely a splurge — rates start at over $2,000 per night.

Serenity-seeking families need not look further than this pristine private island resort in Antigua, accessible only via boat. A World’s Best Award winner , Jumby Bay spans 300 acres, “giving kids lots of space to explore safely and families plenty of room to run, bike, and play without worries of disturbing couples,” Vazquez says. You and your family can wakeboard, sail Hobie Cats, or go snorkeling, and the Camp Jumby Pavilion offers kid-friendly fun and games, including relay races, water sports, bake-offs, and musical instrument lessons.

Feel to bring the whole family — aunts, uncles, and cousins included. “The accommodations range from rooms and suites to huge estates, so whether it's a smaller family in need of a room plus a rollaway, a multi-gen looking for the flexibility of space, or a group who loves the privacy of a villa but the services of a hotel, you're covered,” Vazquez says.

  • Inclusions: All-day dining, drinks, water sports, land activities, gratuities
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 3-11
  • Location: Jumby Bay, Antigua
  • Rates: Start at $2,300

Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels

Turtle Beach

Located on a prime stretch of sand in Christ Church, this all-inclusive includes an impressive kids club, non-motorized water sports, and dance lessons to keep families entertained for hours.

The property doesn't offer multi-bedroom suites.

On the southern shore of Barbados, this all-inclusive Marriott resort is among the island’s best. While some families are happy to lounge poolside or on the beach all day, others may prefer more action. This property has you covered. Think cricket, crafting, dance lessons, tennis, and non-motorized water sports. Little ones can splash around in the dedicated children's pool, and the beloved Fly Fishing Club offers a variety of activities for kids 4-12 years old. Other highlights include five dining venues and spacious all-suite accommodations with breezy island-inspired decor and private balconies or terraces.

  • Inclusions: Dining, non-motorized water sports, land sports, gratuities
  • Location: Christ Church, Barbados
  • Rates: Start at $257

Know Before You Go

Understand the different pricing structures..

“While some all-inclusives can be a great deal, they don’t all equate to a less-expensive trip,” says Vazquez. “For instance, when booking online, all-inclusives are priced based on occupancy, so if you’re booking a room for two but you’re a family of four, the room price will change.”

Additionally, it's worth noting that some properties allow kids below a certain age to stay for free, while others will charge a fee. It’s critical to have a set budget ahead of time to ensure you’re picking a property that best aligns with what you’d like to spend.

Read the fine print.

Put simply: “‘All-inclusive’ does not mean the same thing everywhere,” Vazquez explains. For example, “Some properties might exclude water sports or certain beverage options, so be sure to read the fine print!”

Before booking a resort, identify what you want in an all-inclusive. Do you want complimentary motorized water sports? Gratuities? Premium alcoholic beverages? Ensure the property meets your specific needs and expectations.

Check for seasonal amenities.

Some activities, amenities, and facilities may only be available for part of the year. For example, the Surf Shack at St. Lucia’s Coconut Bay Beach Resort, which offers kitesurfing, wing foiling, and gear rentals, is open from November to June. And at Curtain Bluff, the Cee Bee Kids Camp is open six days per week over peak holidays — and only five days per week most other times of the year.

How We Chose These Hotels

Travel writer Lauren Dana Ellman poured through user reviews, ratings, and T+L editor picks — including World’s Best Award winners — to narrow down the top all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean for families. She also tapped Henley Vazquez, a T+L A-list travel advisor with extensive experience planning family travel in the Caribbean. Additionally, Lauren has personally visited over a dozen all-inclusive resorts — many in the Caribbean — with her family and relied on her travels and experiences to complete the list. Of course, these hotel recommendations also align with our T+L Hotel Values .

A flight from Vancouver to Los Angeles can be paired with cruise to Mexico for a steal through Carnival Cruise Line and Flair Airlines.

Vancouverites looking to spend time in the sunshine without breaking the bank have an all-inclusive option at sea.

While you may think that the cheapest option is staying at a resort in Cuba, Mexico, or the Dominican Republic, holidays at sea may cost less per diem than these packages.

Travellers who can hop on a last-minute cruise next month can pair low-cost flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) with cruises in ports across the United States, including hot spots such as Los Angeles, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale.

A sailing departing from California on Monday, May 6 offers an all-inclusive package.

Carnival Cruise Line , known for its laid-back, joyful onboard experience, has a four-day Baja Mexico cruise from Long Beach (Los Angeles), that visits Catalina Island in California and Ensenada in Mexico before returning to L.A.

The cruise also includes one day at sea for guests to enjoy the onboard activities.

Cruise with Carnival out of Los Angeles

An interior stateroom for two people costs US$747.30, which converts to roughly C$1,029.11 or C$514.56 per person. The per-diem, per-person cost is about C$128.64 (see slide two)

Not only does that cost include transportation on a beautiful ship, but it also includes meals, entertainment, snacks, and lodging. The only thing it doesn’t factor in is alcohol, but you may opt to purchase a drink package that can reduce the cost of your spending.

Prices for ocean view and balcony staterooms don't cost much more and may provide a more comfortable or pleasurable experience.

Flights from Vancouver to Los Angeles with Flair Airlines

While travellers may prefer to pair their trip with a couple of days in Los Angeles before or after the cruise, Flair Airlines has an itinerary with direct flights that allows Vancouverites to fly the day the cruise disembarks and returns to the city.

Flairs's outbound flight from Vancouver departs at 7 a.m. on May 6 and arrives in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. The return flight departs Los Angeles at 10:45 a.m. and arrives in Vancouver at 1:45 p.m. However, travellers must depart from the ship and immediately catch their flight (see slide three).

The total cost for the non-stop option with Flair is $167 if the tickets are booked separately. With the cruise, the total of the holiday is $681.56.

To provide some time post-cruise, travellers may prefer to catch a flight departing later that night or the following day; these options cost around $100 more.

All-inclusive resort or cruise – which is best?

“Club Tropicana, drinks are free… Fun and sunshine, there’s enough for everyone,” so sang George Michael in Wham!’s famous 1980s paean to the nascent all-inclusive. In the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, ‘free’ booze and no bill sounded and looked – if you were anywhere near a pool in Ibiza with George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley – like holiday utopia.

Drinks weren’t really free, but the idea that you could pay up-front to eat and imbibe, and be assured that you wouldn’t be presented with a terrifying bill at the end, was a novel concept, particularly for budget-conscious families and sun-seeking partygoers.

It still offers considerable appeal in our cash-strapped times, which may explain why all-inclusives have had something of a renaissance. Cruising offers similar peace of mind and plenty to do with kids clubs, waterslides and Disney princesses on board – though alcohol isn’t always free. During both types of holiday, the entertainment comes to you and you’ll never have to flinch at the prices on the menu.

But which type of holiday is best? Our writer put them both to the test.

All-inclusive

Club Med founders Gilbert Trigano and Gérard Blitz, who dreamt up the all-inclusive concept in the 1950s, had beaches and sunshine in mind. But skiers also favoured the all-in pricing model. Europe’s slopes were a win-win for the brand, which opened its first Alpine village at Leysin in Switzerland in 1956 ( clubmed.co.uk ).

Traditional sunshine strongholds Mexico and the Caribbean – where Butch Stewart picked up the mantel with his Sandals brand – still account for a big slice of the all-inclusive pie, but the net has spread further to include Cuba, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Montenegro, Cape Verde and the Azores. Further afield there are all-inclusive resorts in Kenya, Thailand (mostly Phuket) and the Maldives and Mauritius. Turkish-owned Rixos ( rixos.com ) has recently opened resorts in Qatar and Doha, while Tui ( tui.co.uk ) and First Choice ( firstchoice.co.uk ) offer several resorts in Costa Rica.

Cruise

An average week or 10-day ocean cruise can tick-off several different destinations in one country, or across several countries in one trip. If you have a bit longer, it can take you round the world. Three-month world cruise itineraries cross continents, sail several seas and oceans, visit scores of capital cities and offer hundreds of excursion opportunities.

And let’s not forget off-grid but accessible by water destinations such as the Galapagos, the Pitcairn Islands and Antarctica. River cruises follow the course of most navigable rivers, from the Amazon to the Zambezi. The Mekong, the Mississippi and the Ganges are among their more adventurous destinations.

Whether beach or mountain-based, most all-inclusive resorts feature an activities element. Sandals comes up trumps, with free scuba at its Caribbean dive resorts and multiple rounds of golf and green fees at top courses in Jamaica, St Lucia and the Bahamas.

Meanwhile, guests at Rixos resorts in Turkey have free daily access to The Land of the Legends Theme Park in Antalya – which means big savings in peak periods. This Easter, there are also egg hunts as well as giant egg-painting: a week at Premium Tekirova costs from £2,390 for four adults and two children, departing on March 30.

Watersports not your bag? Ikos Oceania in Halkidiki can provide a Tesla Model 3 at no extra cost for one day’s exploration as well as a culture pass to local museums. At Ikos resorts ( ikosresorts.com ), spa access is free between 8am to 8pm.

If you’re after more than a typical beach holiday, check the activities part of a hotel website to find out what’s included. The adults-only Sanctuary Cap Cana ( sanctuarycapcana.com ) in the Dominican Republic offers Spanish classes and, at the House of Aia on Mexico’s Riviera Maya ( thehouseofaia.com ), a ‘personal growth’ programme includes 20 classes, ceremonies and rituals from visiting guides.

If you have adventurous teens in tow, the US offers some interesting options. At the historic Castle Hot Springs in Arizona ( castlehotsprings.com ) there’s axe-throwing, cruiser bikes, geothermal hot springs and creekside hammocks for lazing in, while, further north in scenic Wyoming, Scott Dunn has stays at Brush Creek Ranch, set in 30,000 acres of sage-bush prairie where you can ride, fish or take to the landscape by ATV ( scottdunn.com ).

With distractions ranging from rock-climbing walls and ropes courses to simulated surfing, via encounters with Star Wars, Marvel and Disney Pixar characters, cruising sets a high bar for activities. And on land, there are excursions – sometimes included – for every type of passenger.

It’s not just families who benefit. Swan Hellenic ( swanhellenic.com ) has teamed up with Deepak Chopra to offer wellbeing voyages, while adult-only ships offer films under the stars or in theatres, lectures from wildlife experts and historians, opportunities for citizen science, celebrity speakers, casinos and activities ranging from dance lessons to art and photography classes. Virgin ( virginvoyages.com ) also puts on DJ sets and pool and dance parties. And let’s not forget the main event – a new place to explore every day.

Newer resorts have really lifted the bar. At its properties along Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, Rixos rolls out the red carpet for families with a Rixy Kids Club that has cooking and pottery lessons as well as football and dance academies. At Rixos Sungate, where the kids’ club is set around a splash park in a forest, children can learn to code using Lego robotics.

At Ikos Resorts’ collection of luxury properties in Spain and Greece, kids’ clubs are run in line with UK Ofsted standards. Meanwhile, Tui’s family-friendly resorts come with kids’ clubs and a seven-day line-up of activities including creative sessions. Mini Club Med offers trapeze lessons, introductory water-skiing, horse-riding, cooking classes, games and nature discovery activities. For older kids (11-17), there’s film design, DJ sessions and dedicated areas in which to hang out.

If you’re travelling with very small children or have ambitious activities in mind, check the small print: like lots of childcare for babies and toddlers, Petit Club Med and Baby Club Med both cost extra. Motorised water sports often incur a fee at all-inclusives while some resorts impose limits on the number of windsurfing or other tutored lessons.

Cruise ships do a stellar job when it comes to children’s clubs, with all ages well catered for. Most resort ships divide clubs into four age groups and some, including P&O Cruises ( pocruises.com ), offer free babysitting. Royal Caribbean ( royalcaribbean.com ) has an adventure science lab for budding junior scientists as well as baby and tots programmes for those aged six to 36 months. Celebrity Cruises has a STEM at Sea partnership with The Frost Science Museum (Equinox and Edge-class ships; celebritycruises.com ).

P&O Cruises is particularly well set up for those with kids in tow, with round-the-clock children’s clubs on its family-friendly ships and family-oriented shore excursions. MSC Cruises ( msccruises.co.uk ) has baby, mini, junior, young and teen clubs. The latter offers Xbox and PS4 tournaments, a Drone Academy, flash mobs and dance offs. Disney Dream ( disneycruise.disney.go.com ) has some imaginative offerings too, including the Jedi Training Academy and the opportunity to hang out with characters from the Toy Story trilogy.

You get what you pay for. If that’s sun and sea and a good four-star family resort, expect two or three bars and a standard buffet: a week at the Iberostar Bellevue in Montenegro costs £1,562 in mid-May ( iberostar.com ). Pay a bit more and you’ll be rewarded with more imaginative menus. At Ikos Porto Petro in Majorca, five à la carte restaurants serve meals inspired by Michelin-starred chefs (from £2,470pp with Sovereign; sovereign.com ).

Ikos also has curated “dine out” programmes that encourage guests to eat at local restaurants – including a rustic tapas joint in Estepona, an agriturismo in Ibiza and a buzzy beachfront spot in Marbella. Sandals ( sandals.co.uk ) has similar in Curaçao and Nassau. Caribbean all-inclusives generally offer three or four restaurants – and maybe a pop-up beach venue or barbecue night.

Think cruise, think buffet, right? Wrong. Standards are high, with new ships offering a plethora of cuisines, dining styles and venues along with healthy options and dietary alternatives. You’re as likely to find vegan muffins and bee-pollen at the breakfast buffet as a Full English.

Silversea and Virgin have ditched the buffet altogether. Partnerships with chefs including Marco Pierre White and Eric Lanlard (P&O Cruises), Relais & Chateau (Silversea; silversea.com ), Jacques Pepin (Holland America Line; hollandamerica.com ) and Thomas Keller (Seabourn; seabourn.com ) have also made a difference. Crystal ( crystalcruises.com ) has a Japanese restaurant masterminded by Nobu while wine presenter Olly Smith helms the Glasshouse on some P&O ships.

Silversea, Holland America Line and Oceania ( oceaniacruises.com ) are highly regarded among foodies and Regent Seven Seas ( rssc.com ) offers some stylish settings while Celebrity’s newer ships have roof-top gardens and over-the-sea dining. Fine dining can cost extra, depending on the ship, but expect to pay around £15 on top for three courses, which might just include one of the finest steaks you’ll ever eat.

All-inclusive

It’s a broad-brush summation but for something established, refined and ‘old-school’ romantic – think castaway beaches, palm fronds gently buffeted by warm trade winds, knock-out views and honeymoon havens – the Caribbean is a safe bet. The likes of Jumby Bay ( oetkercollection.com ), Spice Island Resort ( spiceislandbeachresort.com ), Necker ( virginlimitededition.com ) and Curtain Bluff ( curtainbluff.com ) are famous for a reason.

The Maldives attracts a discerning international clientele while, in Europe, there are affordable package resorts where screaming kids are well tolerated. At the stylish new kids on the block (think Ikos and Grecotel Luxme; grecotel.com ), Poppy and Miles only scream in the privacy of the rooms however.

Skiers are too busy skiing, too knackered or too busy partying to care about trifles like the vibe. If in doubt opt for Club Med, where most people speak French.

It varies enormously across ships. River ships are tranquil, geared to sightseeing and generally follow an up-early and early-to-bed routine. Large resort ships can feel like theme parks, with entertainment into the wee hours; smaller ships go out of their way to leave passengers alone and provide impressive libraries and spaces for quiet contemplation. Viking ( vikingcruises.co.uk ), Silversea and Seabourn excel at this. Then there are the tall ships such as Sea Cloud ( seacloud.com ) and those in the Star Clipper fleet ( starclippercruises.co.uk ), where you’ll spend most of your time on deck watching the wind make the sails dance.

Some liners take a ship-within-a-ship approach, with exclusive areas, pools and services – at a cost. MSC has the Yacht Club while Norwegian Cruise Line ( ncl.com ), Royal Caribbean and P&O have premium areas with pools and separate menus. Cunard ( cunard.com ) has the Grills Suites.

If you’re after a more intimate, house-party atmosphere (complete with Surrey types, ex-boat owners and ‘non-cruisers’), opt for a yacht-style cruise ship from Ponant ( uk.ponant.com ), SeaDream ( seadream.com ), Scenic Eclipse ( scenic.co.uk ) or one of a handful of Windstar ships ( windstarcruises.com ).

Hidden costs All-inclusive

Do question the headline price, especially if booking via a third party. In January 2024, a Which? survey of 2,000 holidaymakers revealed key omissions from some operators, including soft drinks. Those who booked with the cheapest provider, lastminute.com , were forking out an extra £367 per week on average for extras.

Operators take different approaches to inclusions. BA Holidays says: “Expect your holiday to include flights and accommodation, all three meals and snacks in between. Drinks are included too but expect house wine and local spirits unless otherwise stated.” EasyJet’s small print states: “What’s included in the all-inclusive package varies vastly between hotels. When booking your holiday be sure to look at the board description.”

Premium restaurants often cost more, but at the Oaks IBN Battuta in Dubai for example (where a week costs from £989pp through loveholidays.com ) the price includes à la carte restaurants and in-room breakfast. In all cases the two-clicks-away small print was clear. Read it. If in doubt, use the chat function, talk to a travel agent or pick up the phone.

All cruises include accommodation, dining, entertainment and access to pools and the other fun facilities, but Wi-Fi, drinks – alcohol and soda – and tips and room service might not be included. Tips are automatically added to cruise bills on a per passenger, per day basis. Expect to pay for service on spa and beauty treatments and bar drinks.

If you plan on drinking every day, pay for a drinks package (there are alcohol-free packages, too). Celebrity Cruises alcoholic drinks packages start at around £55 per day and Cunard’s soft drinks package starts from around £8.50 per day. Princess Cruises’ Wi-Fi, tips and drinks bundle costs £50pp per day ( princess.com ).

Though you’ll still pay extra to tip for beauty services, some truly all-inclusive lines also include Wi-Fi, limitless premium drinks, a free mini-bar, most service fees and some excursions. Some also include airfares and a pre- or post-cruise hotel night. Take a look at Regent Seven Seas, Silversea, Viking, Crystal and Seabourn.

Which wins?

The all-inclusive concept has evolved – there’s no room for holiday snobbery in 2024. If all you want is a hassle-free place to relax by a pool or on the beach and forget about daily expenses, this is as good as it gets. But if you intend to stay longer than a week or haven’t been to the destination before, do some research. You may tire of the same sand, sun loungers and restaurants while venturing out to drink and dine makes little financial sense.

If you’ve a thirst for new places, a cruise offers all of the above plus the bonus of a new port of call most days – without the need to unpack. You’ll never get bored of the changing views and, as for feeling claustrophobic, you can disembark every day (though you don’t have to). Plenty of ships overnight in port, so you can dine ashore too.

Cruises score bonus points for once-in-a-lifetime experiences too. Unless you own a boat, how else do you experience the romance of a dawn arrival in Manhattan, a sunset sail out of Sydney or your first glimpse of porpoising penguins in the Galapagos?

CRUISE TO A MEMORY-MAXING VACATION WITH NEARLY EVERYTHING INCLUDED

FEEL THE COMPETITIVE EDGE

Harmony of the Seas Flowrider Action Shot

When you're looking at your upcoming vacation options, you may be asking yourself am I going to have to fork over a bunch of money to do anything cool?

Luckily, when you board a cruise and seek out amazing activities , sports and adventures, there are tons of onboard experiences to choose from — and no surprises. Are you interested in zip-lining over the Boardwalk? That's included. Are you hoping to catch a wave on the surf simulator? You can try as many times as you'd like. Do you want to get a view of the horizon from the best spot possible? Then climb to the top of the rock-climbing wall, there’s not charge. If you want to spend a whole day beating your buds at laser tag, go for it. The best out of three wins! Interested in bouncing the day away on the bungee trampoline — the world is your oyster. Because the possibilities for filling your day for free are endless when you're onboard.

FUEL FAMILY BONDING

Navigator of the Seas Riptide Close-Up

Your adventure filled with endless onboard thrills you can tackle together starts the second you book your cruise. The kids will love racing down the tallest slide at sea , Ultimate Abyss — it’s 10 stories high, and a total rush. Teens can get their adrenaline pumping on the surf simulator and zip lining. And grownups will find something that speaks to every type of interest while strolling through the ship's seven neighborhoods.

When it comes time to fuel up in between adventures, there’s no shortage of craveworthy cuisine from around the world by award-winning chefs. In fact, you can taste your way around the globe in just one trip to the Windjammer buffet — but there are also plenty of go-to staples there to please your pickiest eaters too. And you can always find quick, easy and utterly delicious options close by, wherever you are onboard. Whether it’s bold Mexican bites like tacos, burritos and quesadillas just steps from the pool deck at El Loco Fresh, pizza so ooey-gooey that Sorrento’s should have its own borough, or hot dogs piled high with tempting toppings at Boardwalk Doghouse.

And because everyone deserves to have a little “Me Time” on vacation, Royal Caribbean has your babysitting covered. Kids can’t get enough of the Adventure Ocean (AO) youth program , which has all sorts of age-appropriate activities for kids ranging from the littlest cruisers to tweens. We’re talking games, puzzles, crafts, science projects, movies, themed sessions and plenty more. All led by youth staff who have degrees in education or recreation — so you know your most precious travel companions are in good hands. Which brings us to your “Me Time.”

MAKE ROOM FOR ROMANCE

Harmony of the Seas Solarium Tanning Beds

Taking some time alone with your other half can be an incredible way to connect — though it’s not always easy on a family vacation. But nothing says romance quite like exploring the world with the love of your life. So with the kids excitedly checked into AO, you can spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool deck. The main pools are always popular, but the Solarium is a great getaway from the bustle with cozy nooks overlooking the ocean and a more tranquil pool vibe.

Or if you’re doing date night onboard , dine in style with a romantic dinner. There are all kinds of specialty restaurants serving cuisine from around the world every night of your cruise if you’re craving something in particular. But the complimentary dinner at the Main Dining Room never skimps on special, with a wide selection of spectacular dishes in an upscale setting. The nightly menu consists of some staples you can expect every night, like prime rib and escargot, while others comprise a rotating cast of international flavors — and every one is guaranteed to please your palate.

After dinner, no date night is complete without entertainment, and you’ve got plenty of curtain calls to choose from. Full-scale productions of Broadway blockbusters and West End hits. Ice skating spectaculars. High dive shows that will have you on the edge of your seat. Plus a downright dizzying number of places and parties to do some dancing. And best of all, it’s all included.

EXPLORE THE WORLD

Bermuda Kayaking

If you're looking to make the most out of your vacation days, why limit yourself to one location or adventure when you can have it all? You may have to pay a little bit extra for offshore activities if you want to join a guided tour, and these can be the best way to witness the wonders of ancient history and modern marvels. But you’re always free to explore, and most ports have tons you can do all on our own.

Grab the whole family and hop on an cruise, where each day brings you to a new piece of paradise. You could be wandering the roads of South Beach one day and relaxing on the white-sand beaches of The Bahamas another. Or exploring jungles and ancient ruins in Mexico , and then snorkeling through vibrant coral reefs off the coast of Roatan the following day. And in between all that fun on shore, fill your days at sea with epic onboard activities like learning how to skydive or dining on the international cuisine you've been dreaming of.

If you're looking for more breathtaking locations, set sail to the Mexican Riviera on a weekend getaway or a weeklong journey out of L.A. From massive rock formations emerging from the Pacific Ocean in Cabo San Lucas, to whale watching in Ensenada or even just sipping local craft beers beachside in Puerto Vallarta while chatting with friendly locals — you’ll experience more culture in a week or so than you possibly could if you never left your all-inclusive resort.

Looking for even more options? When it comes to captivating natural beauty, Alaska has it all. From Ketchikan's misty emerald forests to Juneau's vibrant waterfront and Sitka's majestic fjords, few places can compete with the breathtaking backdrops found in the Last Frontier. Like the massive, centuries-old glaciers that line the horizon in most any direction. The stunning Taiga forest, which takes up roughly seventeen percent of the Earth’s land. Or raging white water rivers carving their way through the dramatic landscapes. Alaska is hands down the spot for your coolest adventure yet.

When you compare everything a cruise has to offer, it’s easy to see you get unbeatable value without the expensive price tag of an all-inclusive resort vacation, or the unexpected surprise expenses. What’s more, unlike “cookie cutter vacations” at all-inclusive resorts, a cruise gives you the flexibility to tailor your getaway depending on your party’s interests, needs, and budget. With upgrades such as specialty dining, beverage packages and guided excursions available if you want to splurge, and an incredible experience you don’t have to compromise on even if you don’t. So do yourself a favor and trade in your boring all-inclusive resort for the experience of a lifetime when you decide to cruise to an exotic location. Whether you're heading out to the Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera or Alaska, this is one memory-maxing vacation you'll never forget.

An ultra-luxury cruise line wants to attract wealthy Americans with its all-inclusive 'yachts' — see what the new 128-guest ship will be like

  • Ultra-luxury cruise line  Emerald Cruises says its third ocean ship will debut in 2026.
  • The all-inclusive vessel, which Emerald calls a "yacht," would accommodate up to 128 people.
  • Emerald, known for river cruises, has been investing more in its ocean-based business.

Insider Today

Over the last few years, the mass-market cruise industry's larger-than-life mega-ships — outfitted with loud waterparks and more dining options than you could eat in a week — have dominated the spotlight.

But in the ultra-luxury cruise market, it's been the opposite. The smaller and more exclusive the vessel, the better. So much so that Emerald Cruises' next ocean-based ship, launching in 2026, plans to accommodate no more than 128 travelers.

It's a far cry from Royal Caribbean's new 7,600-guest cruise liner . And the price difference is just as steep: almost $250 per night on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas versus more than $720 per night on the upcoming ultra-luxury Emerald Kaia.

"When people think of cruising now, they automatically think of these large ships ," Robert Castro, the vice president of marketing for Scenic Group, Emerald's parent company, told Business Insider. "There's a market for that, but we're in a unique position."

If you’re familiar with river cruises, Emerald might ring a bell.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

The cruise line, owned by Scenic Group, only offered river cruises for its first nine years.

But lately, its biggest growth and investments have been in oceans, not rivers.

In 2022 and 2023, the Switzerland-based company launched its first two ocean cruise ships, which it calls "yachts." Each accommodates a maximum of 100 guests . And so far, they've been hits, with the cruise line experiencing record-high bookings in 2023.

Yes, the ships look like yachts. And yes, they're marketed as such.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

But because Emerald's vessels operate group itineraries, they still technically count as cruise ships, albeit really nice ones.

So instead of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars a week to charter a yacht, as is traditional with these high-end vessels , travelers can spend less than $800 a day for a traditional cruise on said yacht-like ship.

While it's not nearly as exclusive, it sure is a hell of a lot cheaper, "bringing the charter yacht experience to reach for people who would never even imagine," Castro said.

Emerald’s upcoming 393-foot-long, 128-guest Kaia would be perfect for fans of small, high-end ships.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

The 64-cabin Emerald Kaia would have a larger guest capacity than its two predecessors but would still be tiny compared to most cruise ships, including some of the most luxurious ones.

Regent Seven Seas' new Grandeur can accommodate 746 guests, while Ritz-Carlton says its next ship will sail up to 448 travelers.

Even Four Season's upcoming vessel — with fares up to $350,000 a week — would have a larger guest capacity of up to 222 people. However, it would be almost 290 feet longer than Emerald Kaia.

Like traditional cruise ships, Kaia would have amenities like a spa, two lounges, and three dining options.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

The top deck would also have a cabana and bar-lined pool, one of three swimming holes on the ship.

But unlike its mass-market competitors, Kaia would have an open-air marina that would give travelers direct access to the water.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

Water platforms are typically only common on yacht-marketed ships, such as Emerald's, Ritz-Carlton's, and, someday, Four Seasons'.

This means guests on the upcoming Kaia could dip in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean seas — as is included in its 2026 and 2027 itineraries — without disembarking the ship.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

According to the cruise line, Emerald Kaia's future itineraries include an 11-day sailing from Cyprus to Greece and a 20-day one from Seychelles to Kenya.

Its cheapest itinerary is currently an eight-day roundtrip Seychelles vacation in 2027, starting at $5,055 per person.

As an all-inclusive cruise line, amenities like alcohol, WiFi, and excursions would be included in the base fare. However, unlike all-inclusive competitor Regent Seven Seas , guests must pay for their flights to and from the ship.

To compare, itineraries of the same length on Regent's Seven Seas Grandeur and Ritz-Carlton's Ilma would be $36 cheaper and $120 more expensive, respectively, per day.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

But the fares aren't stopping travelers from gravitating toward Emerald. Before it unveiled Kaia, its parent company announced a record number of bookings in January — up 67% compared to its previous record in January 2020.

Castro said about 20% to 35% of its guests are American, typically well-acquainted with luxury travel.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

The company's goal has been to increase its number of American customers. So far, it's working and is now "on track to be Emerald's No. 1 market," Castro told BI.

The new vessel is being built at a great time for the cruise line.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

Strong demand, compounded by a small fleet of small ships, has led to fewer available cabins for its upcoming summer Mediterranean cruises.

Several of these sailings are now fully reserved. The cheapest remaining fares start at $4,570 per person for an eight-day November sailing from Athens, Greece, to Dubrovnik, Croatia.

It's great news for Emerald as it considers a future with more ocean "yachts." "The sooner we fill the ships, the sooner we start building new ones," Castro said.

all inclusive caribbean cruise packages including alcohol and flight

Cruising is a very popular way to see the world these days, and for good reason. Taking a cruise allows you to see numerous different cities and/or countries within a single vacation, and it’s pretty hassle-free. No need to coordinate hotels and transportation for multiple different destinations, just get on the boat and everything is taken care of for you. And it can be done affordably, if you know some good industry tips and tricks (which WorldMark by Wyndham Travel does, and is happy to share with you — read on).

Ocean cruises are perhaps the better-known option, but river cruises are an up-and-comer in the travel industry, and have grown increasingly popular in the last decade or so. Because of their new-found fame, more and more river cruise vendors are springing up, giving you more options, more price points, and more flexibility if you’re looking to book a river cruise. At this point there are just as many options for river cruises as there are for ocean cruises, which means you can pretty much have your pick of amazing cruises the world over. If a river cruise is calling your name, here is everything you need to know about booking a river cruise.

Pretty much every large river that is near a major metropolitan area has a river cruise option. The European river cruises are probably the most well-known of the river cruise options, and for good reason — Europe’s waterways are very well-connected, making cruising from city to city within Europe an easy way to experience more than one place. But Europe’s rivers aren’t the only ones that offer river cruises. Check out these popular river cruise options, listed by continent:

  • Egypt — Nile River
  • South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe — Chobe and Zambezi rivers"
  • Cambodia and Vietnam — Mekong River
  • China — Yangtze River
  • India — Ganges River
  • Russia — Volga River
  • Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia — Murray River
  • Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary — Upper Danube River
  • Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania — Lower Danube River
  • Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands — The Rhine River
  • France — The Seine, Rhone, and Saone rivers
  • Portugal and Spain — The Douro River
  • Italy — The Po River

North America

  • Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee — Mississippi River
  • Oregon, Washington, and Idaho — Columbia and Snake rivers
  • New York — Hudson River"

South America

  • Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador — Amazon River

There are many perks and benefits to choosing a river cruise over an ocean cruise. For starters, the most obvious benefit is that river cruises can take you to places that ocean cruises can’t. Sure, large ocean liners can hop from island to island in the Caribbean, no problem, but they can’t take you down the Nile River past the pyramids in Egypt, or up the Amazon River surrounded by the Brazilian rainforest and exotic wildlife. When you cruise on a river, you’re able to sightsee 24/7 — there are no full days or nights at sea without land in sight. You’re constantly surrounded by beautiful scenic landscapes, interesting landmarks, and urban areas, both big and small. You’ll never run out of things to look at on a river cruise.

Additionally, river cruises are smaller and more intimate than ocean cruises. On an ocean liner, there may be thousands of passengers and hundreds of options for things to see and do on board. River cruise boats are smaller, with a passenger list in the hundreds instead of thousands, and are quieter, with a more relaxed setting and less glitz and glamor. Unlike ocean cruises, river cruises tend to be truly all-inclusive; on ocean cruises things like shore excursions, alcohol, and some entertainment options cost extra, whereas on river cruises everything from your nightly cocktail to your museum tour is included in the cost. And a bonus: calm river waters generally mean you won’t get seasick!

If you’ve got questions, need a recommendation, or are ready to book an amazing river cruise vacation, make sure to give WorldMark by Wyndham Travel a call. Their friendly, knowledgeable Travel Advisors are well-equipped to make your river cruise dreams come true (and they’ll book your flights and transportation, too!). WorldMark by Wyndham Travel will help save you time and money, and remove the headache of trying to plan and book it all on your own. Give them a call or visit their online booking page today.
