International Travel Insurance

You may be eligible for up to 6 months of complimentary international travel insurance with your ANZ Black or Platinum credit card. You'll need to meet the eligibility criteria set out in your  policy information booklet including, but not limited to:

  • prepayment of, at least, $250 of your travel costs before leaving Australia
  • travel costs need to be charged to an ANZ Black or Platinum credit card in your name.

What happens to events occurring before 7 June 2024?

How do I qualify for travel insurance using my credit card?

If you have an ANZ Airpoints Visa Platinum credit card, and you pay for at least half of your pre-paid travel expenses with your card you may be eligible to receive overseas travel insurance.

ANZ Complimentary Credit Card Insurance and COVID-19 (Coronavirus) FAQ

Information for anz eligible cardholders regarding covid-19 and with a claim event date on and after 27 th april 2022.

Stay up to date on Travel Information for COVID-19 from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)  Smartraveller website and World Health Organisation   (WHO) and Department of Home Affairs .

Always consult the smartraveller.gov.au website prior to any travel.   In addition to visas, COVID-19 testing, and proof of vaccination requirements, many countries now have compulsory insurance and medical cover proof conditions.  Check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you are entering. If you require additional documentation regarding the complimentary international travel insurance policy due to international entry requirements, please contact us on 1300 135 271.

Are Eligible travellers covered for COVID-19 with this complimentary credit card travel insurance?

This complimentary travel insurance policy is designed to provide cover under select benefits to eligible travellers, if you or your travel companion are positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic such as COVID-19, and cover is expressly included under certain sections of the relevant ANZ Policy Information Booklet for which your eligible ANZ card is applicable under:    ANZ Platinum and Black Personal Credit Cards Complimentary Insurance Policy Information Booklet   or the  ANZ Business Black Complimentary Travel Insurance Policy Information booklet .  A General Exclusion for epidemic/pandemic applies for all claims relating to any epidemic/pandemic outside of the select benefits in the applicable policy information booklet. Please note, terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply.

To receive a formal outcome, Eligible ANZ Cardholders must submit a claim.

Eligible ANZ travellers who meet the eligibility criteria should be aware that other General Exclusions have the potential to apply.

What is a General Exclusion?

A General Exclusion is an exclusion which will be applied across all sections of an insurance policy, and applies regardless of when eligibility for cover was gained.  Should a General Exclusion apply, this means that your complimentary credit card travel insurance excludes cover for the event, activities or circumstances (specified in the exclusion) that causes your claim.

To understand what is excluded from the ANZ Complimentary Insurance covers, please refer to the General Exclusions section and the section specific exclusions of the relevant ANZ Policy Information Booklet for which your eligible ANZ card is applicable under:  Premium Cards – Insurances, Insurance Policy Information booklet or the  ANZ Business Black Travel Insurance, Policy Information booklet

Other exclusions may apply depending upon the circumstances of an individual claim. General Exclusions include but are not limited to:

  • where your claim arises because you did not follow an advice or warning that a reasonable person would have been aware of:
  •                 by the Australian government (when a ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ or ‘Do not travel’ alert is in place), which can be found on                 www.smartraveller.gov.au; or
  •                 which was published in a reliable mass media source.
  • any interference with your travel plans by any government, government regulation or prohibition or intervention or official authority;  For example, if  Smartraveller has a warning, ‘Do not travel’ or ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ due to the risk of COVID-19 infection for a destination, and a cardholder chooses to ignore the warning and is infected with COVID-19, cover may be excluded.  Or if, a government closes its borders to inbound travellers due to COVID-19 and you are unable to enter and follow your planned travel across the closed border, cover may be excluded.

What if an ANZ Eligible Cardholder has booked travel and needs to cancel due to contracting COVID-19?

If you are unable to travel as a result of contracting COVID-19, Cancellation cover may be provided to eligible travellers, if you or your travel companion are positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic such as COVID-19, and cover is expressly included under the Cancellation section of the relevant ANZ Policy Information Booklet for which your eligible ANZ card is applicable under:  ANZ Platinum and Black Personal Credit Cards Complimentary Insurance Policy Information Booklet  or the ANZ Business Black Complimentary Travel Insurance Policy Information booklet     . If you are unable to travel as a result of an Epidemic or Pandemic related event which does not include you or your travel companion being positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic, for example a border closure, there may be no provision to claim as a general exclusion for epidemic and pandemic applies. A General Exclusion for epidemic/pandemic applies for all claims relating to any epidemic/pandemic outside of the cancellation benefits in the applicable policy information booklet. Please note, terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply.

You therefore need to consider your own personal circumstances. We are not able to provide you with a cover decision before submitting a claim. To receive a formal outcome, ANZ Eligible Cardholders must submit a claim.

You should also contact your travel agent or travel service provider (airline, cruise line or Tour Company, etc) as they may be able to support you in obtaining refunds, credits or travel re-scheduling.

Can ANZ Eligible Cardholders make a claim for consideration?

Every ANZ Eligible Cardholder can submit a claim and have their individual circumstances considered in accordance with the eligibility criteria which includes the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions that apply as set out in the  and the  Premium Cards – Insurances, Insurance Policy Information booklet   or the  ANZ Business Black Travel Insurance, Policy Information booklet.

Medical, dental and emergencies cover with an ANZ credit card

Example of when you might use this cover on an overseas trip.

If got sick overseas and had to go to hospital for a few days, you could get cover for costs related to:

  • Doctor's fees
  • Hospital fees
  • Changes in your travel plans

Just keep in mind that each travel claim is subject to an assessment and there may be excess payments if you're eligible for a payout.

ANZ complimentary international travel insurance for cancellation, delays, accommodation and transport

⚠️ Keep in mind: Cancellations and other changes to your travel plans are only covered under specific circumstances. For example, if you missed a flight because you needed urgent medical treatment for a covered health issue.

Luggage and personal items cover offered with ANZ credit card complimentary insurance

Hijacking, personal liability, death and other cover offered with anz complimentary credit card travel insurance.

Claims under these benefits are less common and usually only apply in extreme circumstances. None of them have an excess payment but we have listed their claim limits.

  • Hijacking: Unlimited
  • Emergency accommodation due to terrorism: Up to $300 per day and a maximum of $3,000 per cardholder or spouse
  • Personal safety evacuation: Unlimited
  • Personal liability: Up to $3 million per cardholder or spouse
  • Legal expenses: Up to $15,000 per cardholder or spouse
  • Accidental death: $50,000 per cardholder or spouse, up to $1,000 per dependant
  • Funeral expenses: Up to $25,000 for a cardholder or spouse

Note: Unless a specific limit is listed for dependants, any claims related to them will come out of the limit for the cardholder and/or their spouse.

Some of the key things you won’t be covered for with ANZ credit card complimentary international travel insurance include:

  • If you don’t follow advice from any government, official body or mass media announcements
  • Issues related to drinking alcohol or taking non-prescription drugs
  • Travel that’s for the purpose of medical treatment
  • If you or your partner give birth during the trip, or there are complications arising after week 26 of the pregnancy
  • Dangerous activities including rock climbing (with equipment), white water rafting, bungy jumping, off-piste snowboarding or skiing and quad or motorbike riding if the engine has a capacity of 200cc or more

Does ANZ complimentary credit card travel insurance cover pandemics?

Yes, if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 or another epidemic/pandemic illness, this insurance offers cover for claims relating to:

  • Overseas emergency assistance
  • Overseas emergency medical
  • Evacuation and repatriation
  • Cancellation
  • Additional expenses

If you're travelling with someone who tests positive for COVID-19, some cover is also available under the cancellation and additional expenses benefits.

⚠️ Remember: Check the ANZ credit card insurance policy booklet or call Allianz on 1300 135 271 for more details about COVID-19 claims and any exclusions.

Does ANZ credit card travel insurance cover family members?

Yes, your spouse and dependants (i.e. your children) can also get cover when they are travelling with your for at least 50% of your trip. They also need to meet the same travel booking requirements and other conditions of the insurance policy. Check the policy document for full details.

ANZ’s complimentary credit card international travel insurance offers cover for a select number of pre-existing medical conditions when you meet the requirements, including:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Coeliac disease
  • Diabetes (types 1 and 2)

If your condition is listed in the policy document, you don't need to apply for written confirmation as long as you meet the following criteria:

  • The condition is stable
  • You are not waiting for treatment
  • You are not waiting on results of medical tests or investigations
  • You’re not on a hospital waiting list
  • You meet any other criteria specifically listed for your medical condition

Some pre-existing medical conditions have additional requirements. For example, with diabetes, you need to have been diagnosed at least 12 months before your trip. You also can’t have any known cardiovascular, hypertensive or vascular disease – or any related kidney, eye or neuropathy complications.

⚠️ Keep in mind: Every travel insurance policy has its own definition and details about pre-existing conditions. You'll find full details in the ANZ credit card complimentary travel insurance policy document.

What if I don't meet the requirements or have a different pre-existing condition?

Call Allianz on 1300 135 271 to check if you can use this insurance. You may be able to get written confirmation from Allianz that a pre-existing medical condition is covered. Keep in mind that a $75 administration fee may apply as part of this process.

Otherwise, you won't get cover for any pre-existing conditions that cause issues. This includes conditions that you've had professional treatment for and untreated conditions you're aware of before you travel.

Got a pre-existing health condition? Compare other travel insurance policies that offer cover for conditions including anxiety, high blood pressure and knee replacement.

If it's an emergency, call Allianz on +61 7 3305 7465 when you're overseas or 1300 135 271 in Australia. You can also submit a claim online by following these steps:

  • Go to the Allianz online claims portal at https://claimmanager.com.au/anz/agreement
  • Confirm you agree with the terms and conditions, then select "Create new claim"
  • Select the "Credit card insurance" option and provide details of your card
  • Fill in the details on the claim form and upload your supporting documentation

You will be contacted about your claim within 10 business days, according to the online claims website.

What to include in your claim

With insurance claims, include as many details as you can. This makes it easier for the insurer to look at the claim and your eligibility for a payout. Some examples include:

  • A referral or letter from a doctor or other professional you see in relation to a claim
  • Photo evidence
  • Police reports

Tip: Use a travel wallet or create an online folder to keep all your important documents together. This could include your passport, itinerary, printed tickets, a copy of the ANZ card insurance policy booklet – plus anything that could become supporting documentation for claims.

Domestic travel insurance

  • What is it? Cover for specific issues that come up when you're travelling to a different state or territory in Australia. This includes:
  • Cancellation: Up to a maximum of $3,000.
  • Travel delay expenses: After 4 hours or more, $125 per person up to a maximum of $300.
  • Additional expenses: Up to $3,000.
  • Luggage: Up to $750 per covered item with a maximum of $2,000.
  • Luggage delay: After a delay of 12 hours or more, $150 per person up to a maximum of $400 for all claims combined.
  • When can I use it? If you have paid for your return domestic flight with your eligible ANZ credit card before you leave. Or, if you have a return domestic flight and have paid for at least $250 domestic travel costs before you leave (such as accommodation).
  • Is there an excess cost? There is a $100 excess cancellation, additional expenses and luggage claims.

Rental vehicle excess in Australia insurance

  • What is it? Cover for damage or theft of a car or other vehicle you have hired in Australia, up to a maximum of $5,000.
  • When can I use it? If you’ve used your ANZ credit card to pay the full cost of the vehicle rental.
  • Is there an excess cost? $100 per claim.

How to make a claim under one of these policies

ANZ credit cards give you access to other types of insurance for items you buy. Here's a basic explainer of each one:

  • Purchase protection insurance: Offers cover for up to 90 days when you buy a new item with your eligible card and it's then stolen, accidentally damaged or lost. It covers household and personal items such as laptops, shoes, jewellery and glasses.

Is pregnancy covered by this travel insurance?

Pregnancy is treated as a pre-existing medical condition but some cover may be available for complications of your pregnancy caused by injury or sickness. This includes naturally conceived and medically assisted (e.g. by IVF) pregnancies. If there were complications before you became eligible for cover, you typically won't get cover for pregnancy-related claims.

There are also exclusions related to pregnancy, such as for antenatal care. Make sure you read the ANZ credit card complimentary insurance booklet for full details, or call Allianz on 1300 135 271.

Does my complimentary travel insurance also cover my wife travelling with me

We are going on a 35 day cruise going around Australia with many stops in Australia and also one stop in Denpasar Indonesia and 3 stop around New Zealand. The Cruise starts in Sydney and finish in Sydney. I’m using my ANZ Platinum card, are we covered?

Hi John, The international travel insurance policy for the ANZ Platinum Credit Card has a definition for “overseas” that includes “when you are aboard a foreign registered cruise vessel in Australian territorial waters.” So if the cruise ship is registered outside Australia, it’s possible you would be covered. But you should call the insurance provider, Allianz, on 1300 135 271 to check the details specific to your travel plans. I hope this helps.

Hi I am about to turn 81 years of age will I still be covered by my Platinum card. If not will my wife who is 76 be covered even if I am not.

Hi Ron, If you meet the other eligibility requirements for cover before you turn 81, you would be eligible for this cover. This means you would need to spend at least $250 of your prepaid travel expenses on your eligible ANZ Platinum card, have a return overseas travel ticket before you leave Australia and meet the residency requirements. Does paying for car hire on a trip count for the $250 you need to put on your platinum Visa card for Domestic travel insurance?

Hi Clare, Car hire would generally be considered as a pre-paid travel cost. A sit’s not specifically mentioned in the ANZ Platinum and Black Complimentary Insurance policy booklet, it’s a good idea to call the insurance provider, Allianz, on 1300 135 271 to check your eligibility. HI I’ve been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and have a trip to Bali on May 25th. Will I still have coverage under a frequent flyer Anz black card if I need to be flown back to Australia. Many thanks.

Unfortunately, Motor Neurone Disease is not one of the pre-existing medical conditions that is listed as being covered without an assessment. But you can call Allianz on 1300 135 271 to organise an assessment of your condition, which may allow you to get written confirmation from Allianz that the pre-existing medical condition is covered. A $75 administration fee may apply as part of this process.

Check we have up-to-date contact details

Make sure we have a mobile phone number for you. If you’ll use a different phone while overseas, let us know your international number.

Your mobile number may be used for:

  • Visa Secure for online purchases
  • ANZ Fraud Check texts (if your mobile number is from a country other than New Zealand or Australia, we’ll send you an email instead. If we don’t have an email address for you, we’ll try to call you).

If you’ll use your New Zealand phone, you’ll need to use secure WiFi or switch on roaming for these services to work. Check with your phone company about roaming fees or packages.

You can check or update your phone number in ANZ Internet Banking or call us on 0800 269 296 . If you change your number in Internet Banking, remember to change your phone number back when you return.

Travel insurance

If you use your ANZ Airpoints Visa Platinum credit card to pay for at least half your pre-paid travel costs, you may be eligible for overseas travel insurance (terms apply).

Check your cards and bank details

Card expiry dates.

If your card will expire during your overseas travel, you can apply for an early reissue. To allow for delivery, it’s a good idea to apply three weeks before you leave New Zealand.

Check you know your PIN on any cards you want to use overseas. If you can’t remember your PIN, or don’t have a PIN, you may not be able to use it to pay or withdraw cash overseas. You can set or change a PIN in goMoney or Internet Banking under Manage Cards .

Banking access, including blocking your cards

Our goMoney app and Internet Banking can help you keep track of your spending. Both include ANZ Card Manager — to instantly block or unblock your debit and credit cards, if your card is lost or stolen. 

Check you can access goMoney and Internet Banking. Make sure you have a unique, strong and secure password for Internet Banking that is not saved to your web browser. Secure your mobiles, devices and computers, as well as your goMoney app with unique, strong and secure passwords, PINs, or biometric identification. 

In case you need to call us from overseas, make sure you have Voice ID registered or a PIN set up for ANZ Phone Banking — .

Organise your travel money

To help make sure you have back-up options, you may want to travel with several payment options, like a mix of cash, debit and credit cards. Remember you can set up Apple Pay — or Google Pay™ — if you have a compatible device.

For extra protection while you're travelling, you can also temporarily block your spare debit or credit card in goMoney or Internet Banking until you need it.

What travel insurance policies does anz offer.

Travel insurance is only accessible if you’re a cardholder with ANZ. If you have an ANZ Platinum or Black credit card, you can be automatically covered for the following:

  • International Travel Insurance: aside from cancellation benefits, which activate the day you take out your cover, this policy can protect you for up to six consecutive months. You’re also covered for any overseas medical or dental emergencies and the loss or damage of your luggage and travel documents. If you’re a senior traveller under 81, you can qualify for this type of travel insurance policy.
  • Domestic Travel Insurance: your interstate and intrastate travel may be covered by domestic travel insurance, as well as travel to Australian territories, with a return domestic flight booked up to 28 days after your departure. The initial 28 days of your holiday are covered, even if it lasts longer. The available coverage includes cancellation or travel delay costs, supplemental costs, and lost or delayed luggage.
  • Rental Vehicle Excess: if you hire a car in Australia and charge the entire cost of the rental to your ANZ Black or Platinum credit card account, you may be covered by the rental vehicle excess insurance. The Rental Vehicle Excess in Australia Insurance will cover your rental excess up to $5,000 or the maximum total limit specified in your rental vehicle agreement, whichever is less, provided you are a nominated driver on the rental agreement. If the rental vehicle is damaged or stolen while in your care, the insurance will cover the damage or theft up to the maximum limit of up to the amount in your agreement.

What optional extras are available through ANZ?

Unlike other travel insurance companies who provide you with a choice of optional extras such as adventure sports or snow sports cover, ANZ doesn’t offer any extra coverage. You’ll only be offered coverage for what’s already included in your policy.

What exclusions should I be aware of when buying travel insurance through ANZ?

It's crucial to keep in mind that even the most comprehensive travel insurance policy won't give you endless coverage. The exclusions found in ANZ’s Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) include:

  • Loss of enjoyment
  • Booking travel against doctors’ advice
  • Intentionally injuring yourself or attempting suicide
  • Knowingly travelling to a country with a ‘do not travel’ warning
  • Partaking in dangerous activities, such as rodeo riding, canyoning or running with the bulls in Spain on a European holiday
  • Illegal or criminal acts
  • Injury, illness or death if you’re over 81 (international insurance)

By spending $250 on pre-paid travel costs using your ANZ credit card, you’ll receive instant cover for up to six months free of charge, no matter where in the world you’re holidaying.

Competitive luggage cover

While some travel insurance companies scrimp on the coverage for lost, stolen or damaged luggage, ANZ allows you to claim up to $12,000.

Cover for domestic pets

ANZ lets you claim up to $500 per cardholder if your return home is delayed and you need to cover the cost of additional boarding kennel or cattery fees.

What we don't like

Only available to credit card customers.

ANZ doesn’t offer any standalone travel insurance policies, allowing only those with Platinum or Black credit cards to access cover for a holiday.

No optional extras

In a rare move for a travel insurer, ANZ doesn’t include any add-ons or optional extras as part of its policies.

High excesses

While other travel insurers will usually make you pay between $150 and $250 to make a claim, ANZ’s standard excess is an eye-watering $350.

Types of travel insurance

International.

International travel insurance can offer cover for a range of events, including medical expenses, lost luggage or items, cancellation fees and more when you're overseas and a long way from home.

If you're journeying within Australia, domestic policies are designed to offer many of the same protections as international travel insurance (with the exception of medical expenses).

Single trip

The most standard and common type of travel insurance, this policy can cover you for one trip starting and ending in Australia (and is available for both international and domestic travel).

Annual multi-trip

As the name suggests, this type of travel insurance covers multiple trips over a 12-month period. Depending on your insurer, you may be able to take an unlimited number of trips up to 90 days each.

You don't have to have a return ticket booked to take out cover while you're overseas. One-way travel insurance enables you to access cover without a set end date, such as if you're moving temporarily.

You may need to take out specialist coverage if you're setting sail on a cruise. Fortunately, cruise insurance can cover emergency evacuation, cabin confinement and more.

Just because you're older doesn't mean travel insurance isn't still important. If you qualify for cover, seniors' travel insurance can offer greater peace of mind for included events while you're travelling.

Adding winter sports or ski cover to your policy can add protection against damage to your equipment, piste closure due to bad weather and activities such as back-country skiing, heliskiing and more.

Adventure sports

Looking to enjoy some adventure sports on holiday? An adventure sports pack can grant you cover for a range of activities, such as hiking, scuba diving and motorcycle or scooter riding.

Frequently asked questions about ANZ travel insurance

Yes – if you’re diagnosed with COVID-19 during your international holiday, ANZ covers you for overseas emergency assistance, medical costs, cancellation and evacuation costs. If your travelling companion is struck down with coronavirus, you’ll be able to claim any cancellation costs or additional expenses.

Yes – ANZ will cover travellers up to the 26th week of their pregnancy if they become injured or sick during their holiday and give birth. However, no cover is available if you suffer from complications due to your pregnancy or use IVF in an attempt to become pregnant.

Lodging a claim with ANZ on your travel insurance is relatively easy and can be done online. ANZ Global Assistance pays out approved claims, so it’s best to lodge your claim with them. Once you’ve provided all the details surrounding your claim, plus supporting evidence such as medical and police reports of any incidents or receipts, you can submit your claim. It will take about ten business days for a claim form and all necessary documentation to be processed.

I’ve searched the T&C PDFs of both Westpac and ANZ Credit card Complimentary Travel Insurance and can’t find any mention of cover for cruises and medical evacuation from a cruise ship. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.   

And from what I read, the cancellation of a trip is capped at $20,000 for ANZ and in unlimited for Westpac. Maybe someone is able to confirm that.

I can only guide you re ANZ Complimentary Insurance.

The Booklet I refer to covers these cards

ELIGIBLE CARDS: The complimentary insurance outlined in this booklet is available to the eligible beneficiaries of the following credit cards: • ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum • ANZ Frequent Flyer Black • ANZ Rewards Platinum • ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures • ANZ Rewards Black • ANZ Platinum

Do you have one of these cards? If so, page 14 defines Overseas as

"outside of Australia and its territories, and includes when you are aboard a foreign registered cruise vessel in Australian territorial waters"

Therefore further down on whats covered, page 21

Overseas Emergency, medical and evacuation are unlimited.

And yes, cancellation is capped at $20,000 so you need to work out if that is good for your situation.

For us, our cruise holidays are never more than that.

Further to cheznandy The Westpac has a similar cluase under their Definitions see below

Definitions There are some words in this booklet that have a special meaning. These words and their meanings are set out in the table below and are highlighted in italics throughout the booklet. So you are covered as I see it for Unlimited Overseas Emergency, medical and evacuation 

as cheznandy said above.

BUT as always don't assume we are right, contact your bank and make sure your are covered.

And that there are not small riders or conditions we missed in our readings of the T&Cs and PDS

Great advice John, I have called often over the years we have been using this insurance to clarify any changes in wording, they have always been great to talk to over the phone.

The ANZ FF Black definitely covers cruising.  They will also email you with a certificate that you can show if you are going to New Caledonia.

We use the ANZ card cover for cruising. There is a handy webpage to 'check your cover ' (underwritten by Allianz) where you enter your type of card, destination (I always select worldwide) and dates of trip. They then send you a certificate via email which shows the cruise and covid cover on page 2.  This is what we show when boarding a cruise to New Caledonia where this cover is required.

Similar to answer above, we never require more than $20000 cancellation cover.

Prior to covid I used ANZ card insurance for a cruise. I was very concerned about making sure I would be covered for a cruise by them, and more importantly for any medical evacuation from the ship. I emailed them and asked them if they could confirm those things. The email they sent me was comforting as they clearly stated that yes, I was covered for those specific eventualities. I felt happy having it in writing from them and particular to my situation. They can also send you the master policy number for complimentary insurances in case you need to present it as proof of insurance anywhere.

Only last week I applied for and received free travel insurance through our Westpac mastercard, for next year's trip, which includes two cruises (Oceania and Cunard).  I completely missed reading the last section of the Letter of Eligibility we received, and being concerned about cover for the cruises, I rang the helpline.  A patient and efficient person confirmed we are automatically covered for cruises, and directed me to, "Eligibility for Cover while Cruising and for Epidemic/Pandemic (such as COVID-19) Cover".  

Hope this answers your question, as it did mine  🙂

I agree that pre-existing conditions are a real problem, and probably why more people don't travel.

Really like that people are ringing there Credit Card Insurer to clarify cover, and reporting back here.

Gives us some confidence that we are covered, not just thinking we might be.

Re the Westpac CC insurance. My son has this card and asked me if his fiancé who lives  with him at the same address is considered his ‘spouse’ in the T&C. I will give them a call but first of all I’d ask since there are some very knowledgeable and helpful people here.

If they live together and are in a relationship then the law views them as being in a de facto relationship which is as good as married in the eyes of the law so I should think the answer is 'yes'. Do the T&Cs mention 'de facto spouse'?

Please be advised that according to Policy information booklet (on page 18), Definition of   Spouse:

“ the partner of the cardholder who is in a permanent relationship with the cardholder at the time the journey or trip starts.”

According to above information if you are in permanent relationship however not married, you will be considered as partners  under this definition

Hi, I'm just sorting my insurance now for a January cruise and have Westpac Platinum card. Was this sentence "Eligibility for Cover while Cruising and for Epidemic/Pandemic (such as COVID-19) Cover"  specifically stated in the letter you received or in the policy document?

"Under this group policy, the eligible traveller/s listed  below have access to International Travel Insurance which includes epidemic/pandemic (such as COVID-19) coverage and cover while cruising including while aboard a foreign registered cruise vessel in Australian territorial waters.  Cover is outlined in the sections below, subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and applicable sub-limits outlined in the Policy Information Booklet."

The PI Booklet is viewable online as part of the complete information forwarded by Westpac, and a scan through reveals the normal travel insurance inclusions and exclusions.  Allianz is the underwriter.

I'm in NZ and policy is with AIG. I've just spoken to them and there is no Covid cover! How stupid is that, if Westpac Australia cover Covid but NZ does not, what's the difference? (Rhetorical question but really, that's seems unfair). It also does not cover when in NZ waters, which I see yours does.

Be very wary of CC insurance as it can be very tricky, some have a minimal spend on each item of travel I.e. $250 on flights, another on hotel, another on the cruise  not just on the whole trip.

Gosh, that’s very one-sided.

Newbie here….I have ANZ card with complimentary travel insurance.  I know that Covid is covered.   

Wondering if you get confined in your room on a cruise for say 5 days, anyone knows whether there is any compensation from ANZ Allianz travel insurance?
