Experience NSW's most popular wine adventures on these five tours of the region

Maxim Boon

If you've been hankering for a drop of crisp sauvignon blanc straight from the source or you just want to finally know what the hell tannins are, it’s high time you went on a wine tour.

And in NSW, the Hunter Valley is the place to do it. There are more than 150 wineries dotted over the rolling green hills of the region and collectively they’ve accumulated 180 years of experience in growing, smooshing and fermenting grapes to make our favourite reds, whites, rosés.

In the region? Here is our pick of the best wineries to visit across the Hunter Valley.

Don't just want wine here's our ultimate guide to how to (properly) spend 48 hours in the hunter valley. .

Hunter Valley Carriages Taste the Valley Wine Tour

Hunter Valley Carriages Taste the Valley Wine Tour

A trot through the vineyards in a horse-drawn carriage might be the quaintest way to experience the Hunter Valley. Meet your guide and trusty steed at the Small Winemakers Centre, before trundling to cellar doors, and getting to know the region’s produce, tasting olives, cheeses and chocolate. You can make it a private experience or join an open group and meet more wine (and horse) enthusiast friends. A full-day tour (from 10am to 4pm) costs $220 per adult, and needs a minimum of six people for the tour to commence.

Tastes of the Hunter Private Wine Tour

Tastes of the Hunter Private Wine Tour

This private tour with Tastes of the Hunter does transfers as far as Newcastle, Maitland and Singleton, as well as local round-trips running Sunday-Tuesday. The coolest thing about this option is that it is completely customisable. You'll get to call the shots from your pick-up location, whether you choose wine, beer or chocolate (or more), and where you go for lunch. It can be as affordable as you like, and you can choose between a bus that fits a maximum of either 13 or 24 passengers.

Taste of the Hunter Afternoon Tour

Taste of the Hunter Afternoon Tour

An afternoon tour in the Hunter Valley is always a good time, and it's made even better  on this degustation tour.  With this iHop Hunter Valley excursion you’ll head off at 3pm, starting your boozy voyage off at a local distillery where you'll be taken through a guided tasting of their signature, housemade spirits. After that, you'll head to a boutique cellar door for  a guided wine tasting and scrumptious cheese plate. The final stop is all about artisan chocolates at another cellar door, where you'll eat a range of perfect sweets that are perfectly paired with their own local, artisan wine. The iHop vehicles will ferry to and from local accommodation for this five-hour experience – for just $129 per guest.

Two Fat Blokes Tours

Two Fat Blokes Tours

The guys at Two Fat Blokes want to showcase more than the Hunter region's wine. They show off the region’s chefs and local produce at day-long or multi-day excursions ranging in price from $219 for an Uncork the Hunter day tour, to $670 for a two-night romantic getaway in the midweek. There are also tours that explore the Hunter's breweries, half-day Snapshot tours for just $95 and private adventures with customisable options for between $440-$880 for your entire group. Hungry? Try the Cheese and Wine experience, where you can sample nine carefully curated bites with paired wins for $33.

Wine Country Tours Small Group Day Tour

Wine Country Tours Small Group Day Tour

The founder of Wine Country Tours Richard Everret will share more than 40 years experience as a winemaker on this city-to-vineyard experience. After your Sydney pick-up, you’ll arrive in the Hunter to a morning tea at around 10am. Richard will then introduce you to the area’s renowned long-ageing dry semillons and other regional varieties, conducting all the tastings personally at various wineries, vineyards and a working wine cellar. Lunch is served at either Muse Kitchen or Esca at Bimbadgen, but not included in the $200 bill for Sydney transfers or the $125 for guests staying locally. Sydneysiders can expect to get home around 7.30pm.

5 of the Best Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tours

Explore the Hunter Valley, one of Australia’s finest wine-producing regions, on one of these top wine tasting tours.

best wine tours hunter valley

(Photo: Getyourguide.com)

Located in New South Wales, to the north of Sydney, the Hunter Valley was also one of the first places that European settlers established vineyards in Australia. Tours are an extremely popular way to get to know the Hunter region, taking care of the bookings and, more importantly, the driving, for you. Half day wine tours are possible, while longer itineraries schedule in time for a stroll among the vines. Here are five popular Hunter Valley tour options.

Hunter Valley Wine Tour with 3 Tastings and Garden Lunch

Combining an exploration of the fine produce of the Hunter Valley region with some of the local sights, this full-day group tour is one of the few excellent cheap tours to Hunter Valley. Geared towards first-time visitors to the region, the itinerary includes samplings of local cheeses, wines and liqueurs at a series of boutique wineries. A visit to Hunter Valley Gardens Village is also on the cards. Lunch, with options for different diets, including vegan, is provided as part of the fee, as are the tastings at three wineries. From A$175 per person.

Hunter Valley Winery & Wine Making Tour from Sydney

If your main focus is on the wine – and in the Hunter Valley, that would be unsurprising – then consider this tour, which provides an opportunity to visit at least two wineries. This tour even goes one step further, offering insight into the wine making process, with a behind-the-scenes winemaking excursion at one of the larger working wineries. There will be plenty of time for tastings in the cellar, before heading to lunch, which is included with, you guessed it, more wine. This tour starts in Sydney and lasts around 11 hours. From A$175 per person.

Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tour from Pokolbin

If you’ve already got your own set of wheels and are spending a little time in the bucolic climes of the Hunter Valley, but want to let loose on a tasting tour and let somebody else do all the hard work, then this tour from Pokolbin might just do the trick. You’ll visit three or four wine cellars during the seven-hour tour, sampling wines at each one, while also finding time for a sit-down lunch, and visiting local cheese and chocolate manufacturers. From A$190 per person.

Uncork the Hunter Valley Full-Day Wine Tour

Do you like a little mystery added to your gastronomic experiences? Well that’s what the Uncork the Hunter tour throws into the keg along with the customary tasting sessions. The mystery element is left as a surprise, so we won’t ruin it here, suffice to say that it’s a fun activity designed to help you improve your knowledge of wines. Other highlights of this tour include off-the-beaten path wineries with multiple tasting sessions and cheese pairings, followed by a tour of a local brewery and the chance to drink some locally-brewed beers. From A$199 per person.

Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tour from Sydney with Lunch

The final choice on this list of impeccable Hunter Valley wine tours doesn’t do much different to the others. The primary focus is on tasting fine wines, in this case at three wineries, while also sampling other delicious regional produce, such as cheese, vodka, and even some experimental liqueurs (word has it that one of them involves a mix of mango, chili and chocolate mint). You’ll have plenty of time in the Hunter Valley as this tour lasts roughly 11 hours. From A$219 per person.

Which cellar doors do we visit on the Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour?

We mix and match the 3 we pick from this list, so every tour is slightly different. We aim for a mix of boutique and mid-sized cellar doors and try to support locally owned and operated venues rather than the large corporates that you see in bottleshops. It’s time to shake it up and taste something different!

Some of the cellar doors that we usually visit include the following:

Ernest Hill wines Ridgeview wines Hunter Wine Lab Briar Ridge wines Blueberry Hill wines Travertine wines The Garden Cellars Tintilla Estate

What do guests say about our Hunter Valley Wine Tour s?

Firstly and foremost I want to thank you for your help in organising our wine tour. Your communication has been impeccable and I could not thank you enough for all your information about the wineries, options for us to choose, your recommendations and just the ease of booking everything without an ounce of stress on my part. Our tour went without a hitch. All the girls loved it and it was everything we were all hoping for. I will absolutely be recommending your business to everyone that will listen! Our driver Jeff was fantastic so a massive thank you to him as well. I will definitely be booking again in the future, thank you again!

Christie B :

Just wanted to pass on that we had a fabulous time on our tour over the weekend!

Grant was a blast! He was great value, made everyone feel comfortable, and had a wealth of knowledge. The Hunter Valley wineries we visited were lovely (Ernest Hill was our favourite) and a perfect spot for lunch.

Really appreciate the extra service with the Newcastle drop-off and pick-up. We would absolutely come back again and will highly recommend to friends and family

I’m so happy I booked a wine tour with Tastes of the Hunter for my 30th birthday! Thanks to Suzanne, the whole booking process went smoothly, and it was so easy. Things couldn’t have been better on the day. Our driver, Kevin, was very patient and made sure everyone was always fine.

Everyone on the tour agreed that it was an amazing day. We can’t wait to come back and do another tour with Tastes of the Hunter

Frequently Asked Questions about our Hunter Valley Wine Tours

Shared bus tours such as our Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour ($120pp for Hunter Valley pickup and $135pp for Newcastle pickup) are the most economical option. The Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour includes: – Cellar door and distillery tasting fees. – Pickup and drop-off to your Hunter Valley accommodation (and all transfers between venues). – The tour organisation (you don’t need to book any venues). Private hunter valley wine tours start at $1145 for a 13-seat bus, which is charged per bus rather than per person. So the more people you have, the cheaper a private tour can be.

Yes! Our Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour price includes 3 cellar door tasting fees (at the cellars we have organised for the tour) and 1 spirits tasting.

No! We pride ourselves on our affordable Hunter Valley wine tours being as economical as possible, and there are no sneaky booking fees or transaction fees applied at the checkout. These are already included in the $120pp price for pickup from your Hunter Valley accommodation and the $135pp price for Newcastle pickup.

Lunch is at your own expense on the day. We always visit casual lunch venues where the majority of meals are available for $30-$40 per person. The lunch venues are usually 4 Pines at the Farm Brewhouse, Ironbark Hill Brewhouse, The Valley Brewhouse, Nineteen Bar and Bistro, Huntlee Tavern, or Harrigan’s Irish pub. All offer a range of pub favourites, including gourmet pizzas, gourmet burgers, steaks, chicken schnitzel, salads, etc.

Vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options are usually available (however, they cannot be guaranteed). Please let us know when you book if you have any special dietary requirements.

The actual tour component is between 10am and 4.30pm (it can run as late as 5pm if we are delayed at any venues). Pickups occur before 10am, drop-offs occur after 4.30pm/5pm and are based on distance from Pokolbin (i.e., we start with outer areas and work our way towards Pokolbin/Rothbury/Lovedale/Cessnock with these pickups usually occurring between 9.15am and 9.45am). We’ll send you an email by the Wed/Thurs morn before the tour with your exact pickup time, venues and driver details.

Our drivers aim to get as close as possible to your Hunter Valley cottage, as many of the properties in Pokolbin, Rothbury, and Lovedale have long driveways. This is usually possible 99% of the time. However, our drivers always put the safety of other passengers first. Therefore, if it isn’t safe for the bus to reach the exact location of your cottage (e.g., steep/rough terrain, slippery gravel road), we’ll give you a call and negotiate a safe place to pick you up as close as possible to your accommodation. Please note: Pickups from Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort and Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley are usually from the bus zone outside the main reception area, as the roads to the individual villas are quite narrow and unsuitable for minibuses.

Our Hunter Valley tours from Newcastle pickup directly from residential addresses in Newcastle or from outside of your Newcastle hotel (we may require you to walk around the corner if directly outside of your hotel is a “no stopping” zone). You don’t need to arrange additional transport to meet the bus at a designated meeting point. We come to you!

To keep things simple and affordable, we charge one price for pickups from the Hunter Valley ($120pp) from the suburbs we can pick up from (see above). If you request a pickup from an outer Hunter Valley suburb (e.g., Maitland, Rutherford, Singleton, Elderslie, Dalwood, Quorrobolong, Broke, etc.), your pickup time will be earlier (in the range of 8.30am – 9am). Suppose you have a small number of guests (e.g., 2-4 people). In that case, it is advised that you contact us to check if we can fit you into the existing pickup schedule for a particular date. The pickups we are able to do can depend on the other guests already booked in.

The Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour has a set itinerary, so you don’t need to book any venues. Just hop on board, ready for a fun day and a snapshot of the wines, beers, and spirits the Hunter is famous for! If you need a tour where you can choose your own venues (and you have 8 or more guests), then you can check out our private tours of the Hunter Valley .

Craft beer paddles/schooners of craft beer etc., are available for purchase at 4 Pines at the Farm Brewhouse (around $20 for a paddle of 4 beers) and Ironbark Hill brewhouse (around $18 for a paddle of 4 beers/ciders), The Valley Brewhouse, Huntlee Tavern and Harrigan’s Irish pub. These are optional and come with a guide sheet for a self-guided tasting.  Please note:  The prices above are a guide, and venues can change their prices without notice.

The Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (Saturday only for Newcastle pickups). If you have a group of 8 people or more and would like a private tour (with a similar itinerary or one you can fully customise!) on a weekday (Mon – Thurs), check out our options for private wine tours of the Hunter Valley ).

When you think of Australia, you may think of the iconic Opera House or finding Nemo in the Great Barrier Reef or the vast red land of the Outback. You probably think of kangaroos and koalas and dangerous spiders. You may even think of cricket and beaches and hot accents. What I didn’t know about Australia was its history of making ridiculously delicious wines.

With our time in Australia coming to an end, it was now or never. We booked a tour with Best Tour Hunter Valley and one night stay at the Hermitage Lodge. An early morning wake up call later, and we were off to the Hunter Valley, about a two hour drive northwest of Sydney.

“ Thanks for a great day out where our expectations were exceeded. Our tour guide, Julie, was kind generous and extremely knowledgeable about the Hunter Valley and wineries. We were a diverse group coming together to have a fun day out. Would highly recommend this tour of boutique wineries. Particularly grateful to Julie and the warmth of our co-conspirators for making our day. Cheers to Paul at Binet Wines and Jade at Iron Gate vineyard. Also loved Hunter Distillery – try Copperwave Gin – amazing. ”

“ Our family of 10 had an amazing day with Colin. Very hospitable to our requests, informative on different winery’s in the area, places to eat and allowed us to go at our own place. A really great family day. Thank you Colin! ”

“ Wow in this modern era who would believe a business with a heart. Due to a serious diagnosis the day before our tour we were 2 people short on our booking. Although they didnt have to they did not charge us. So kind. As for our driver Chris what a gem nothing was too much trouble we probably should have tipped him so much more. Julie’s itinerary was AMAZING UNIQUE and flexible. Value for money is an understatement. Would l recommend 200%. What fun thankyou so much. Not enough superlatives to do this company justice. Believe me l am a very tough regular reviewer and could not fault our day. ”

“ Julie designed a wonderful tour for my family ranging in age from 52-88 years. She made sure all the venues were accessible and took us to a great range of vineyards, chocolate, cheese, olive tastings as well as a fantastic gin and vodka distillery. Julie shared lots of local knowledge and fun facts and her attention to detail was second to none. ”

“ We traveled from Adelaide met up with our son and his girlfriend who had done a wine tour with Julie before . Julie did not disappoint as she went out of her way to make everybody’s day special . Julie organized for the 4 of us to finish the day at stomp winery which was the highlight of our weekend in the hunter valley. Thankyou Julie ,if you want a great day out book now ”

“ Hubby and i did a full day wine tour for our wedding anniversary and his birthday. With Julie as our tour guide we visited 5 boutique wineries plus the distillery with cheese and chocolate to match. Full of knowledge and very friendly we had a great day.Went back to our hotel pleasantly intoxicated and full of good good food Highly recommended ”

“ The tour was not rushed which was what we requested since we had our mom with a bad knee with us. We also loved that we went to organic wines to accomodate my vegan daughter. The wineries that we went to and the lunch at Baume were just perfect for our group. Thanks to julie for arranging the tour and driving us around. ”

“ Julie was absolutely fantastic and we had a wonderful day arriving back at our hotel with our wines, cheeses, olives and chocolates. ”

“ My friends and I had a wonderful day on our wineries tour, and were so impressed with Julie’s care and professionalism during the day. She is also great company and it was wonderful hearing how she started her business after realising there weren’t any wheelchair accessible vehicles being operated in the Hunter Valley. Our vehicle was spotless, and our day went very smoothly. A fantastic experience and highly recommended! ”

“ We loved all the wineries Brett took us to. Happy to recommend good places around Hunter to eat and see. We really enjoyed the wine tasting experience! Thank you. ”

The Hunter Valley Wine Region

The Hunter Wine Region, also commonly known as the Hunter Valley, is a region of New South Wales, Australia. It extends from approximately 120 km to 310 km, North of Sydney. The Hunter Valley is a major tourist destination in New South Wales and is the 6th most visited place in Australia attracting more than 2.5 million people annually.

Home to more than 150 wineries, an array of award-winning restaurants and stunning landscapes – all just a two-hour drive north of Sydney, the Hunter Valley is a fabulous holiday destination.

The Hunter Valley Wine Region is famous for its production of Semillon and Shiraz and holds the title of planting the first Chardonnay vines in Australia. Young red wines show common characteristics; earthy, with notes of fresh citrus but Hunter Valley wines are well renowned for aging flawlessly in the bottle; evolving into a golden, smooth, nutty wine complemented well if finished in an oak barrel.

best wine tours hunter valley

The Hunter Valley has a rich history dating back to the 1830s, the earliest recording of wine mentioned in Australia! James Busby sent some European vine cutting to Australia and they were planted in the Hunter Valley. Busby has been crowned the ‘godfather’ of viticulture in Australia and New Zealand for his commitment pioneering the craft.

The Hunter Valley dodged the Phylloxera aphid, a disease that ran rabid across most of England and then spread to Victoria. Whie Victoria’s wine industry suffered a blow due to the disease, the Hunter Valley experienced a trough from the exponential growth during the second world war. People weren’t buying wine like they used to, but some 20 years later the industry regained momentum. Now the Valley is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia.

Not only did he help me select the vineyards we would be visiting, but he booked our reservations, picked up our picnic lunch juggled the 20 bottles we purchased and got them (and us) safely back to our hotel. He also had great advice for me as I was booking other venues for our trip such as hotels etc. Thank you, Raki, for an absolutely flawless and fun trip!

We’re so thankful we hired Hunter Valley tours during our recent trip to Sydney to organise a private winery day trip. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and thanks to some of his recommendations we found a few of our favourite wineries from our whole trip! We highly recommend this company and will certainly use them again if we’re back in the area!

My wife and I were in Hunter for our anniversary and spent two days. We visited 3 wineries on Friday and four on Saturday. Hunter Valley wine tours team organized everything and made all the cellar door reservations. The private driver was very punctual when picking us up in the morning and very informative on the area and the wineries we were going to. He would walk us into each winery, introduce us, take a picture or two and then leave us to enjoy the wine. W would highly recommend these people for a private tour in Hunter Valley.

The Capercaillie Wine Company visit lets you taste and learn about sparkling and dessert wines, which are perfect before visiting the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company

3. Small-Group Hunter Valley Wine and Cheese Tasting Tour from Sydney

  • Departure Time: 8:00 AM
  • Includes:  Air-conditioned vehicle, Local guide, Wine tasting, Cheese tasting, Cafe lunch with hot and cold options

The Hunter Valley is not only known for its fairytale-like outdoor scenery but for producing fine wines and excellent cheese. We head right into its depths with the Small-Group Hunter Valley Wine and Cheese Tasting Tour from Sydney !

Throughout the experience, you’ll get to sample 20 or so different wines and cheeses, so you’ll be an expert at pairing both by the time you’re through! Start the day bright and early with a convenient hotel pickup at 8:00, where you’ll hop on board an air-conditioned vehicle and set off to the valley!

Along the way, your guide will regale you with tales about the winemaking history and Aboriginal history throughout the country. It was great to have some interesting, important context to enrich the experience, before arriving in the Hunter Valley.

The first stop is at either Iron Gate Estate, Tempus Two Wines, or McGuigan Wines – all of which are some of the best in the country. The tour does tend to vary a bit from group to group, but you’ll almost certainly get to try the area’s iconic Semillon and Shiraz varietals.

I did my future self a favor and went ahead and bought a couple bottles of my favorites I’d tried during the tour. We made another stop at a famous cheese shop, where there was no shortage of delicious, creamy cheeses to try.

We then learned how to properly pair various types of cheeses and wine, before doing a little tour through the valley. If there’s time, your guide will even make a few touristy stops in the city, like at the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

4. Wildlife Waterfalls and Wine Day Tour from Sydney

  • Departure Time: 7:30 AM
  • Includes:  Small-group tour (max. 11 guests) Friendly, knowledgable guide Private koala experience with a keeper Lunch with a glass of Australian wine, beer, juice or soda Wine tasting at a boutique winery Air-conditioned vehicle

This was one of the most adventurous tours I’d taken in a while, and I loved the balance between the outdoors and wine tasting. The Wildlife Waterfalls and Wine Day Tour from Sydney does not disappoint!

If you’re going to Australia, you can’t not enjoy the abundant wildlife and raw, untouched nature, and this tour is the perfect opportunity to do so! This is a small-group tour so you can rest assured your group will never go over 11 participants.

This makes a huge difference, as you won’t just be strolling around with a massive crowd – rather, you’ll receive personalized attention from your guide. This tour starts off in the morning, where you’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle and head out of the city into one of the country’s oldest national parks.

The first stop of the day is the gorgeous Botany Bay beaches, where you’ll go on a leisurely walk to enjoy the scenery and learn about its history before heading into the Royal National Park.

You’ll be able to see hang gliders and paragliders take off from Bald Hill Lookout and take photos of this breathtaking vantage point.

Then, hop back in the car for a quick journey over to the Symbio Wildlife Park where you’ll get to learn all about their koala conservation efforts.

The best part is that we were even able to meet one of the furry little guys and take a photo with them for an adorable memento perfect for remembering Oz!

Next up, you’ll take a beautiful ride winding around the Grand Pacific Drive on the way to Golden Beach where you’ll have a tasty lunch at one of my favorite cafes! Get the digestive tract going after with a simple hike filled with various lookouts for fantastic photo ops.

5. Hunter Valley Small Group Wine, Gin, Cheese & Chocolate Tour from Sydney

  • Duration: 11 to 12 hours
  • Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off available
  • Includes:  Behind the scenes wine production tour of a local winery, Local Gin & Vodka Tasting, Knowledgeable, engaging and entertaining guides, Transport by air-conditioned minivan, Alcoholic Beverages, Lunch

Cheese, chocolate, gin, and wine – what more could one ask for on vacation? With this next tour, you’ll get to enjoy all of that in various scenic spots in the valley with an expert guide to lead the way.

The Hunter Valley Small Group Wine, Gin, Cheese & Chocolate Tour from Sydney is not only a phenomenal educational experience, it’s also one of the most enchanting ways to see outside Sydney.

What I really appreciated about this tour was the fact that we wouldn’t have otherwise known about (much less, been able to locate) Hunter Valley and the amazing wineries nestled inside.

This all-day tour starts off by picking you up right from your hotel, so there’s no need to rent a car or worry about booking separate transportation on your own.

As we set out for the valley, our friendly guide offered educational/funny commentary on the history of the area along with other interesting stories.

I’ve been on more wine tours than I care to admit, and many of them just go to the massive wine producers which is more of a “corporate” experience, if that makes sense.

I loved that this one took us to the charming “mom and pop” wineries, which to be honest, was way more fun!

We were able to visit 3 different wineries, where we got an amazing behind-the-scenes tour of one where we saw exactly how they produced wine.

We had a lovely lunch at a cozy restaurant with some of the most amazing views of the valley while sipping on some cider and craft beer. After that, we moved on to both a gin distillery and a vodka distillery and got to taste different spirits and learn the differences between them.

Throughout the tastings, we also tried cheeses and chocolates, where I learned that I could pair chocolate with literally anything and be happy.

6. Luxury Hunter Valley Wildlife & Wine Tasting Tour from Sydney

  • Departure:  497 Pitt St, Haymarket NSW 2000
  • Includes: Luxury Minibus – Air-con, reclining seats with storage, Wifi, USB connection, Cooler, Free Wifi, Professional Commentary

If you want to drink wine in Sydney, you have virtually endless options to choose from around the city. If you want insight into the natural beauty, wildlife, and art of winemaking, then take this tour.

The Luxury Hunter Valley Wildlife & Wine Tasting Tour from Sydney  will take you to some of the most beautiful spots in the serene Hunter Valley from the hustle and bustle of the city center.

This journey felt less like a traditional tour and more like a storytelling experience where we got to know the winemakers and the stories behind each bottle they produce.

Starting off early in the morning, I found the guides to be great at organizing our time in a way that we avoided any crowds and traffic. The luxury minibus was super comfortable, with reclining seats, onboard wifi, USB charging connections, and even places for storing our bags and jackets!

The first stop of the tour is the Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary, where your guides share fascinating information about their conservation efforts and about the sweet animals they protect here.

You’ll get to see kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, and plenty of other typically “Australian” animals (note, it’s illegal to hold koalas in NSW, so you won’t be able to do that here). After seeing these amazing creatures, head out to D’Vine Treats where you’ll get to try a smorgasbord of delicious cheeses, olive oils, and chocolates!

The Pokolbin Estate Vineyard was absolutely beautiful, and the boutique vineyard setting made it feel like I was in some kind of movie. We had a very well-organized wine tasting on the property before heading to Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort for a tasty lunch made with locally-sourced ingredients.

Then, it’s off to Wombat Crossing Vineyard for another wine tasting – I unfortunately didn’t see any wombats, but it was still a blast.

7. Private Blue Mountains and Winery Day-Trip from Sydney

  • Departure Time: 8:00 or 9:00 AM
  • Includes:  National Park fees , Beverages, Wine tasting, Local guide, Transport by private vehicle

If you haven’t been to the Blue Mountains in Australia before, do yourself a favor and sign up for this next tour. With some of the most breathtaking views, lush scenery, and exotic animals, it’s a unique experience.

The Private Blue Mountains and Winery Day-Trip from Sydney Tour  is a fully customizable tour that involves your party and a private guide to curate an itinerary based on your preferences.

Start out by being picked up in a private vehicle right from your hotel, where you’ll get to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the spectacular vistas from the natural landscapes around you. As you travel, your guide will ask you and your party questions about what you’re most interested in so they can design a plan around it.

Once you arrive at the Blue Mountains National Park, you’ll all have time to walk around, take a hike up the mountains, and stop at various points like Aboriginal Rock Art sites, see wild kangaroos, and more.

Scenic World is a cool option, where you’ll ride the world’s steepest incline railway and head down through the deep tunnels and rainforest passes right into the center of the Jamison Valley.

I really enjoyed the ride through the vineyards and gum tree forest, where our guide pointed out exotic critters to us (there are tons of birds everywhere!) Finally, we made a stop for lunch before heading to a local winery for a delicious wine-tasting and cheese platter!

I’m a huge Riesling fan, and it was here where I tried one of the best of my life! Afterward, we had time to check out the Grose Valley and Victoria Falls, and our guide was nice enough to even take photos for us!

What I love about this is that it feels like a friend is taking you around, perfectly balancing the wilderness with wine and food.
