Summer 2022 Disney Cruise Line Itineraries

Disney Cruise Line has released itineraries through Summer 2022! There are sailings to great new destinations and popular ports of call in the Greek Isles, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean. In this post, we’ll take a look at the awesome options, followed by commentary on pricing, our recommended destinations, and why we’ll be booking on opening day instead of waiting for a deal.

Note that “opening day” booking for the general public will begin on March 25, 2021. Prior to that, there will be a staggered advance booking period beginning next Monday. Here’s the eligibility timeline:

• March 22, 2021 — Platinum Castaway Club Members, Golden Oak Club Residents
• March 23, 2021 — Gold Castaway Club Members
• March 24, 2021 — Silver Castaway Club Members, Disney Vacation Club Members, Adventures by Disney Insiders
• March 25, 2021 – All Guests

If you’re an existing member, Disney Cruise Line recommends that you log in to your account now to verify your Castaway Club status, so you’ll be all set to book on your designated date. You can also call (866) 784-1592 starting at 8:00 AM Eastern Time, or contact your travel agent.

Another thing to note is that the Disney Wish is scheduled to sail its maiden voyage in Summer 2022. However, it’s not included in this itinerary release. Disney Cruise Line promises bookings and info for the Wish will be released at a later date.

By process of elimination, we’re pretty confident it’ll be taking over the shorter Bahamas cruises out of Port Canaveral. On the one hand, we really want to experience the Disney Wish. On the other hand, I’ve had my fill of those itineraries for a while. Back to the first hand, we really do miss Castaway Cay, and getting back there plus a new ship will probably win out.

Summer 2022 will bring a new collection of Disney Cruise Line destinations as part of the Disney Magic’s grand tour of Europe. This will begin with sailings through the Greek Isles and Mediterranean before heading to Northern Europe for cruises to the Baltic, British Isles, Iceland, and the Norwegian Fjords. Five new ports of call in Europe include Chania, Greece; Porto, Portugal; Riga, Latvia; Maloy, Norway; and Nynashamn, Sweden, which is near Stockholm.

From Rome, cruises to Greece will whisk families to the beautiful landscapes and archeological wonders of Piraeus, the gateway to Athens, and to the spectacular Greek islands of Santorini and Mykonos. One 9-night sailing will mark Disney Cruise Line’s first call to Chania, Greece on the island of Crete, known for its charming harbor.

Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona, Spain, will visit a mix of must-see locales including Rome and Naples, plus French Riviera coastal towns like Villefranche (pictured above) and Cannes. During a 7-night cruise from Barcelona to Dover, England, Disney Cruise Line will make its first-ever visit to Porto, Portugal, a coastal city with old-world charm.

Additional new ports of call in northern Europe include Riga, the capital of Latvia and the largest metropolis in the Baltics; Nynashamn, Sweden, a beautiful seaside town just outside Stockholm; and Maloy, Norway, a charming coastal village bordered by silver-sand beaches and historic lighthouses.

For the first time ever, families can sail out of Miami during the summer season. Every cruise from Miami in the summer of 2022 features a stop at Castaway Cay. The June 7 voyage will be the Disney Dream’s inaugural cruise from Miami–the ship has previously only home ported in Port Canaveral.

In addition to visiting Castaway Cay, 3-4 night cruises from Miami will call on Nassau, Bahamas, while 5-night cruises include a stop at either Grand Cayman or Cozumel, Mexico. One special five-night sailing features two stops at Castaway Cay, along with a call on Nassau.

Itineraries to the Caribbean and Bahamas continue aboard the Disney Fantasy from Port Canaveral. Each Disney Fantasy voyage features a visit to Castaway Cay. This ship will embark on an assortment of itineraries to the eastern and western Caribbean throughout the summer of 2022, including 7-night voyages, a special 5-night sailing, and an extended 9-night cruise.

The 9-night Disney Fantasy cruise features a first-time call on Roseau, Dominica, an eastern Caribbean destination filled with natural hot springs, waterfalls, and tropical rainforests. This mountainous island is bordered by pristine beaches and crystal clear water.

The Disney Wonder will return to Alaska for the 2022 summer season to explore the region’s breathtaking natural vistas, glaciers, and wildlife. These 7-night sailings depart from Vancouver, Canada and most will visit Dawes Glacier, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. Two of the cruises will call on Icy Strait Point in place of Skagway.

If you’re looking for a recommendation, pretty much everyone who has done one will shower the Alaska itineraries with praise. To be sure, that’s one of the better trips we’ve taken. It’s also pretty approachable.

However, our all-time favorite cruise is the Norwegian Fjords itinerary–by a pretty wide margin. We cover the similarities and differences in Norway v. Alaska Cruises , but the bottom line is that for us, Norway was much better. Others we know who have done both give the edge to Alaska–you really can’t go wrong either way.

Although we haven’t done it as a cruise, we absolutely love the French Riviera. Villefranche-sur-Mer is one of the most gorgeous harbors I’ve ever seen, and it’s a 15 minute train ride from Monaco. Not seeing James Bond at the Monte Carlo Casino was sorta a bummer, but Monaco is otherwise a fantastic, highly-recommended place.

Much like Walt Disney World on discount drop day, Disney Cruise Line’s phones will be jammed and the online system will likely slow to a crawl at peak times. Please do not exacerbate this by calling on a day before you’re eligible; they won’t make an exception and let you cut the line. It’ll just waste everyone’s time, including yours.

It’s always a good idea to use an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner to do the work for you, but especially for opening day bookings. For one thing, using them to book your cruise is a great way to save time and stress. For another, their services are free to you since they’re paid commission by DCL on the reservation.

Every year opening day price-points make waves on social media once they’re available to book for Platinum Castaway Club members, as prices always jump. This is not really a surprise at this point, but it’s nonetheless easy to be taken aback when first seeing each year’s prices…especially if you remember what prices were 5 years ago.

With that said, it’s worth noting that opening day stateroom rates are largely on the lower end of the historical pricing spectrum. As itineraries start to book up and stateroom inventory becomes more scarce, rates invariably increase. Pricing is demand-based, with cruises in recent years rarely decreasing in price–increases are far more common.

We’ve scored some good deals on Disney Cruise Line over the years (and cover how you can do the same in our How to Save Money on Disney Cruise Line Sailings post), but have had less luck in the last couple of years. We do not expect that this trend will change with the Disney Cruise Line itineraries. If you’re planning on taking one of the popular cruises, booking early is definitely the most pragmatic route!

With the sailings out of Florida–especially Port Canaveral–the odds of prices dropping are stacked against you. There’s probably a 90% chance that opening day prices are the cheapest that those sailings will ever be.

For what it’s worth, we plan on following our own advice here. There are several itineraries we’re eyeing, but the ones that really stick out include stops in St. Petersburg. That’s a bucket list city for us, and a cruise seems like the ideal way to accomplish that. We’d also love to visit Oslo–still need to touch that viking ship to awaken the Spirit of Norway.

My suspicion is that there’s a lot of pent-up demand for cruising and, unlike theme parks, insufficient stateroom inventory to absorb all of that. There are a lot of avid cruisers, and most will have gone nearly 2 years without sailing once cruising finally resumes. On top of that, a lot of people are going to be getting stimulus checks and/or have unspent vacation budgets from the last year that they won’t mind burning on cruise reservations next week.

Being frugal by nature, I’ll still cringe at the itinerary prices, but I’ll find a way to justify it to myself. In part, I have absolutely no faith in scoring a last-minute deal given the pent-up demand, record personal savings rate, and stimulus. Also in part, we really want to take another European cruise. (Maybe I’ll just let Sarah book the cruise and never tell me what it cost. Ignorance is bliss. )

With zero international travel, only one trip to Disneyland last year, and a couple of hotel stays at Walt Disney World, we spent a fraction of our normal budget last year. It’s looking less and less likely that Japan or Europe will be reopening borders anytime soon, so that’ll probably be true (albeit hopefully to a lesser degree) again this year. That’ll also make it easier to justify whatever these absurd prices end up being. I’m not looking forward to overpaying for a vacation, but I’m looking forward to a vacation enough that I’m willing to overpay for one!

I’ve seen gorgeous photos of Porto. That would be a stop I would love to do.

We have enjoyed The Viking river cruises. They have Ocean cruises too. All include shore excursion each stop. Also wine and beer with lunch and dinner. Free wifi. No nickle and diming. We did A Rhine River Cruise and a Danube Cruise. Both were great.

Has anyone done the British isles cruise? We’ve done Alaska and loved it. This year we are deciding between Norway and the British isles. Any opinions?

Norway if you’ve never been. But you can’t go wrong in either direction.

I don’t like to talk too much online in public about my past but for a couple of years in the nineties and again in mid 2000’s I worked extensively on cruise ships (stand up). Alaska or the Fjords of Norway…Both are incredible experiences, so amazing that they can leave one feeling closer to God. But to really appreciate those trips one MUST also get off the ship. Hike, kayak, go whale watching, explore cities that are a 900 years old. The first time you sail through Fjords tops watching glaciers cave but after that they’re pretty equal in astounding views and experiences that are intellectual, emotional, social, romantic and religious all at the same time! I don’t like discussing this out in the open but there are two things you should do, besides putting together a photo book, which I would gladly assist you with. Put together a DTB cruise (I’ve got some great ideas for that) and a short one day WDW get together/gathering with your readers. I know you claim to be on the shy side but with a good well thought out itinerary once you get past Hello you’ll find it’s easier done than said.

Has anyone ever taken a cruise from NY? We live close to NY and would love to take a cruise from there and back on Disney. I have seen prices but I don’t think they have anything out yet for next year to sail out of NY.

I also agree. Norway crushes Alaska by a mile. Geiranger fjords is easily one of my most favorite sail-ins to any port in the world.

Not really that much more difficult to get to Europe if you are on the east coast as well. For the west coasters Alaska is an easy trip but for those on the east coast it’s not that big of a difference to just head across the pond.

Totally agree with this, but for many people it’s a mental barrier. Traveling to Vancouver is not as intimidating as Copenhagen or Dover. Personally, I think that’s irrational, but it is what it is.

No Galveston departures? That makes me sad as we are close enough to drive there. Adding in flights I’d rather just go to WDW instead.

It's absolutely true that cruise lines aren't sailing in North America right now -- though that could change soon (here's the latest update on when cruise ships will resume sailing ).

But, one thing to remember is that the popularity of certain ships, such as those sailed by Disney Cruise Line, paired with thousands of people rebooking voyages they had to cancel in 2020 due to coronavirus means that capacity will be tight in 2021 and 2022. If you've got your heart set on a specific cruise ship, destination or embarkation date, it's wise to put down a deposit now or risk being shut out later.

For Disney Cruise Line fans, it's time to lock in your 2022 vacation now. Itineraries for January through May 2022 go on sale Oct. 19, 2020, for Castaway Club Platinum members and then to the general public who have never sailed on Disney beginning Oct. 22, 2020.

When booking a family cruise on Disney, it almost always makes sense to book as early as possible so you can reserve the exact stateroom you want and have access to what often ends up being the lowest cruise fares. While other cruise lines have seasonal sales and inclusions that can save you money , Disney does things differently.

Essentially, demand for Disney cruises is high and school holiday and summer vacation itineraries often sell out way ahead of embarkation. This means that the price to sail with Disney usually only goes up from the time the sailings are put on sale until they either sell out or the boat pulls out to sea, whichever comes first. If you want to see how this plays out in reality, Touring Plans has a fare tracker for Disney cruises that can show you some historical prices for various sailings.

As an example, here's historical price data for a December 2019 four-night Western Caribbean itinerary sailing out of Galveston, for two adults and two kids (ages 3 and 8) in a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah.

The beginning price for this room type booked over 500 days before departure was a little over $3,800 all-in. Sixty-four days before the sailing, the price had only gone one direction -- up around $900 higher for the exact same trip.

This up, up and away pricing scenario may change a bit when Disney launches several new boats (aka more capacity), starting with Disney Wish , DCL's next new-build, the launch of which has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. But, for now, booking as early as possible is often the way to get the lowest price on a Disney cruise.

Advance booking for past guests

If you've taken a DCL cruise and are a member of its Castaway Club, you have advance access to reserve a 2022 cruise. Disney Vacation Club members, Adventures by Disney Insiders and Golden Oak Club members also get advance access.

When to book

• October 19, 2020: Castaway Club Platinum members and Golden Oak Club
• October 20, 2020: Platinum and Gold members
• October 21, 2020: Platinum, Gold and Silver Castaway Club members as well as Disney Vacation Club members and Adventures by Disney Insiders
• October 22, 2020: All guests (you don't need to be a Castaway Club member)

How to book

There are three ways to reserve a 2022 Disney cruise. Castaway Club members can book online, call or use a travel agent. To reserve your cruise online, go to the Castaway Cay login page . To make reservations by phone, call (800) 388-4513. The phone line opens at 8 a.m. ET. Or, use your favorite travel agent. Just be sure to give him or her your Castaway Club member ID for the booking. It can make lots of sense to book via a travel agent to get special booking incentives or, if booking via Costco Travel , hundreds of dollars on a Costco Shop Card.

Golden Oak Club members should call Golden Oak Club member services.

Disney Vacation Club Members can reserve with points by calling Member Services at (800) 800-9800. To make a cash-only booking, use a travel agent or call Disney Cruise Line at (866) 325-6348.

Adventures by Disney Insiders can use a travel agent to book or call (800) 388-4513.

Disney 2022 itineraries

So, where can Disney Cruise Line take you in the first half of 2022? Here are the major embarkation ports and routes to choose from:

Disney returns to Hawaii

There are two very special Disney Wonder 10-night itineraries that take the ship back to Hawaii. It's a perfect mix of five sea days that give you plenty of time to experience all the ship has to offer along with port calls to Honolulu, Oahu; Kahului, Maui; and Nawiliwili, Kauai. Travel from Vancouver to Honolulu or vice versa on April 26 and May 6, respectively.

Head to the Bahamas or Caribbean from Florida, Galveston or New Orleans

DCL sails to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from both Miami and Port Canaveral in Florida as well as Galveston, Texas, and New Orleans, Louisiana, so families have plenty of options to consider.

Here are the itineraries to expect from Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream:

• From Galveston: four-night Western Caribbean itineraries and six-night Bahamas cruises aboard Disney Wonder
• From Miami: three- , four- and five-night Bahamian and Western Caribbean cruises aboard Disney Magic
• From New Orleans: four- and six-night Western Caribbean itineraries as well as 6-night Bahamian cruises on Disney Wonder
• From Port Canaveral: three- and four-night Bahamian cruises on Disney Dream and six- and seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages aboard Disney Fantasy
• From Port Canaveral: Disney Dream to sail three- and four-night Bahamas cruises

Tip: Disney Dream's March 7 four-night round-trip itinerary from Port Canaveral includes two port days at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay.

Baja and Mexican Riviera

Sailing from San Diego in 2022, Disney Cruise Line will offer two, four- and five-night itineraries visiting Mexico's Baja region, including calls on Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas aboard Disney Wonder. One itinerary also includes a port call on Catalina Island, California.

Pacific Coast

The cruise line has also programmed one Pacific Coast voyage that happens in late April when Disney Wonder repositions from Baja cruises to Alaska. The five-night cruise from San Diego to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, includes two sea days and calls on San Francisco and Victoria, British Columbia.

Panama Canal

If you've been dreaming of transitting the Panama Canal, you can do it aboard Disney Wonder in 2022. With just one departure on March 4, the 14-night westbound Panama Cana voyage begins in New Orleans and ends in San Diego with port calls on Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman; Cartagena, Colombia and Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. There are also seven sea days.

Which credit card is best for a Disney cruise?

Now is the time to book your Disney cruise for the first half of 2022 if you want the lowest price possible. As usual, you can choose to just put down the deposit to lock in the lowest prices for now and work on the balance at a later date. Disney Cruise Line’s Summer 2022 Sailings – A Look at Opening Day Prices

The recently announced Summer 2022 Disney Cruise Line sailings went on sale today for Platinum Castaway Club members as well as residents of Disney’s Golden Oak. Sailings began to appear online in the 6 o’clock hour, well before the phone lines opened at 8:00 AM Eastern.

Now, it is time to take a look at the opening day pricing for the Summer 2022 Disney Cruise sailings. Please keep in mind, the pricing information is not available to view online for Gold & Silver Castaway Club Members, and first-time cruisers. As tiered booking windows open this week, the sailings will appear bases individual Castaway Club status.

Below, I’ve collected the opening day pricing, lowest price per stateroom category, based on double occupancy (2 adults) for all of the Summer 2022 cruises to provide a general idea on where the cruises are priced. I realize this does not take into account onboard booking, or a more detailed quote for your sailing party. For a more detailed look at quotes, I would suggest the opening day pricing thread over at disboards.com.

The idea for this post was simply to get baseline pricing for each cruise and I felt 2 adults provided the baseline for double occupancy to help everyone plan for Gold, Silver, and first-time cruisers booking windows. The pricing is grouped by ship and itinerary for more of an apples to apple comparison.

One last note, the pricing below is representative of a snapshot in time on opening day. As cruises book, prices will increase and stateroom availability will dwindle. The pricing below includes taxes, fees & port expenses for 2 adults.

I wonder what is going on. Coupled with the demand and a high percentage of guests re-booking summer cruises that were cancelled in 2020 and 2021.

Dear Scott, thank you for the work you keep on doing for all of us, even the ones living in europe. Talking about europe and DCL and Meyer´s shipyard in Papenburg/germany and Meyer´s second shipyard in R‌ostock/germany (at the baltic sea), where they build certain parts of the Wish as they did with the Fantasy and the Dream, you keep sending us videos showing the “journey of those ship´s-parts” from the baltic sea (Rostock) to Papenburg (located close to the Netherlands at the north sea), and show the transit through the KIEL-CANAL (aka Nord-Ostseekanal) which is the connection between baltic and northern seas and similar beautiful as the Panama-canal is. There comes my question, how to convince DCL to offer passages through that Kiel-canal, on their Disney magic northern cruises which would save at least one day cruising around Denmark with no shore-excursion there and cruising through that Kiel-canal, showing guest the absolute beauty of northern Germany´s Schleswig Holstein and the southernmost parts (almost) of Denmark. However there being no mosquitoes and no yellow fever as are in Panama. The Kiel-canal is about 120 miles long and the passage takes about 7-8 hrs ending close to Kiel, a cruise-harbour even not yet recognised by DCL with shore excursions available to the towns of Hamburg and Lübeck as well as the world famous Legoland in Denmark, and even possibilities to visit Meyer´s shipyard and see Disney´s ships grow. I have been there three times when they built the Dream and the Fantasy and I really loved it. Hope this might help to extend the northern cruises of europe a bit.

Exciting news that the early Disney Cruise 2022 itineraries have been announced and will be available for booking.

The news that many people have been waiting for is that Disney Cruise Lines will be sailing to Hawaii in 2022!

Disney Cruise 2022 How to Book

Open bookings start on October 22, 2021, but if you are a member of the Castaway Cay Club you will be able to book before then.

If you have sailed before you will be a member of the Castaway Cay Club. All members have priority booking according to which tier status you have:

• Monday October 19th – Platinum Castaway Club Members and Disney’s Golden Oaks residents
• Tuesday October 20th – Gold Castaway Club Members
• Wednesday October 21st – Silver Castaway Club members, Adventures by Disney Insiders, and DVC members who have not previously sailed with DCL.

DO NOT try and book today as the dates are not bookable yet. You can, however, look through what is available here so you can start to decide what you want to book.

Castaway Cay Club Members really should log in to their account as soon as possible to check your status. You will then be ready to book as soon as you can.

Golden Oak Club Members should contact Golden Oak Club Member Services, Disney Vacation Club Members wishing to book with points will need to call Member Services at (800) 800-9800.

Main U.S. routes: Disney has several departure points from within the United States, including options from San Diego, New York City, Miami, and Galveston, Texas. However, its most frequent departures are from Port Canaveral in Brevard County, Florida, to the Bahamas and the Caribbean or from Vancouver, British Columbia to Alaska.

Loyalty program: Disney Cruise Line offers the Castaway Club to repeat guests. It has four membership levels — Silver, Gold, Platinum and Pearl. The first level is earned by completing a single cruise.

Disney Cruise Line destinations

Although Disney currently operates only five ships, the cruise line still manages to cover most of the world. Here are the locations you can currently sail on a Disney cruise:

New Zealand.

Pacific Coast. 

Panama Canal.

South Pacific. 

Transatlantic. 

Cruises are available in a variety of lengths, from three nights up to 15 nights.

Disney cruises tend to be more expensive than the average cruise. Currently, for example, the cheapest cruise departing from Port Canaveral is a three-night trip to the Bahamas, which costs $1,958 for two guests.

And you’ll pay more to take a "special occasion" Disney cruise. The same three-night Bahamas cruise sailing during Disney's Silver Anniversary at Sea starts at $2,345 for two guests.

When it comes to timing, standard logic applies. The high season will cost more, especially during holidays and the summer break.

The cheapest rate we found — the previously-mentioned $1,958 — is for a cruise in late January, a time when those with school-aged children might have trouble getting away. Meanwhile, the most expensive period for this cruise takes place over the Christmas holiday and rings in at $3,737 for an inside stateroom.

For all destinations, if you’d like to save money, avoid peak periods and search all available dates to find the lowest rates . This is true even on less popular cruises, such as those sailing up to Alaska .

The cheapest cost for two guests to Alaska from Vancouver is $2,983 in mid-September, while the same cruise will cost you $4,607 if you sail over the Fourth of July holiday.

One-way positioning cruises — that is, those that end in a different location from where they started — are often much cheaper per night than standard round-trip cruises.

What’s included

Disney cruises are more inclusive than most cruises. You don’t, for example, need to pay extra for soft drinks on a Disney cruise like you would on Norwegian Cruise Line . You’re also entitled to complimentary room service 24/7, unlike on Virgin Voyages, where you'll be charged a $5 fee for each delivery.

Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay (on most Bahamas and Caribbean cruises).

Disney isn’t known for its loyalty programs. For example, there is no frequent traveler program associated with staying at one of its resorts or frequenting its parks. However, Disney Cruise Line rewards repeat customers with various benefits, including a complimentary specialty dinner, free photo downloads and an exclusive terminal check-in area.

Castaway Club levels

The Castaway Club levels are Silver, Gold, Platinum and Pearl.

How to earn : Sail on one cruise.

Best benefits : Book cruises one day before the general public, online activity planning 90 days before sailing, check in 33 days early, exclusive terminal check-in.

How to earn : Sail on five to nine cruises.

Best benefits : Book cruises two days before the general public, online activity planning 105 days before sailing, check in 35 days early, onboard reception, special discounts. 

How to earn : Sail on 10 to 24 cruises.

Best benefits : Book cruises three days before the general public, online activity planning 120 days before sailing, check in 38 days early, complimentary specialty dinner.

How to earn : Sail on 25+ cruises. 

Best benefits : Book cruises four days before the general public, online activity planning 123 days before sailing, check in 40 days early, complimentary unlimited digital photo package.

The Disney Wish is the newest Disney Cruise Line ship and certainly its best. It just launched in the summer of 2022. Among its many amenities, guests can find the first-ever Disney attraction at sea. It’s a 760-foot water slide filled with show scenes, lighting, music and more that touches down into a lazy river.

The Disney Wish also has dedicated areas themed for "Frozen," the Marvel Universe and "Star Wars."

In addition, the Disney Wish has all the regular amenities you’d expect on a Disney cruise, including live entertainment, pools and spacious staterooms.

Disney Cruise Line does not offer free Wi-Fi. Instead, it has three levels of packages from which to choose:

Stay Connected: $10 per day for the entire cruise or $12 per day for a 24-hour period.

Basic Surf: $20 per day for the entire cruise or $24 per day for a 24-hour period.

Premium Surf: $30 per day for the entire cruise or $36 per day for a 24-hour period.

These packages are available on the Disney Wish, Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream. The Disney Wonder still operates on the old data-usage Wi-Fi packages.

Most of your daily expenses, including your food and non-alcoholic beverages, are included when sailing on a Disney cruise. However, if you’d like specialty drinks or alcohol, you’ll need to pay extra. Gratuities are not included, and Disney Cruise Line's recommended tip is a minimum of $14.50 per guest, per night.

Disney Cruise Line doesn’t offer the standard drink package other cruise lines offer. Drink packages allow you to pay a flat-rate price and drink as much alcohol as you’d like.

Instead, you’ll either pay per drink or purchase bundled quantities onboard. It’s also possible to purchase a specialty beer mug at the pub onboard, which can then be refilled across the ship. Much like Disney’s popcorn buckets, your beer mugs entitle you to cheaper refills on all your beer.

In the past, Disney Cruise Line required that you be vaccinated or tested for COVID-19 before sailing, but this is no longer the case. Guests departing from the United States are not required to do either, though the cruise line highly encourages you to get vaccinated before sailing.

Disney Cruise Line Releases Summer 2022 Itineraries

Summer 2022 cruise itineraries were released today by Disney Cruise Line. It’s important to note that the Disney Wish is not included in this release. From the looks of it, the Disney Dream’s new homeport will be in Miami, Florida.

Highlights include new ports in Greece, Portugal, Latvia, Norway, Sweden, and Dominica, plus first-ever summer sailings from Miami to The Bahamas. Every cruise from Miami in the summer of 2022 features a stop at Disney’s private island paradise – Castaway Cay .

PORT ADVENTURES ON CASTAWAY CAY

PARASAILING

Guests looking for a bird’s-eye view of paradise should check out this excursion. Floating hundreds of feet in the air, you’re master of all you survey, or at least it seems that way for several minutes. You board a speedboat and travel several hundred yards away from land. Then, in singles or pairs, you stand at the back of the boat and are harnessed to a line-bound parachute that is slowly let out until you and the parachute are 600–1,000 feet above the water. Enjoy panoramic views of your ship, Castaway Cay, and beyond.

Each excursion takes about 10 people onto the boat. There are no ride-alongs; every guest on the boat must pay. Your actual parasail event will last about 5–7 minutes. Depending on the number of other guests, the entire experience lasts 45 minutes–1 hour. Open to guests age 8 and up, parasailing excursions cost $110 for both adults and kids. Guests must weigh between 90 and 375 pounds; those who weigh less than 90 pounds may be able to ride if they go in tandem with another guest, but their combined weight may not exceed 375 pounds. Determination of single or tandem rides is fully at the discretion of the staff.

Kids under age 13 must be accompanied by a paying adult age 18 or older. Guests ages 13–17 may go on the excursion unaccompanied but must be escorted to the Marge’s Barges excursion meeting site by an adult age 18 or older. All guests must sign a safety waiver.

You must leave your shoes on the dock and are strongly discouraged from wearing a hat or glasses during your sail; there is a storage area on the boat for your personal belongings. Wheelchairs and other wheeled mobility devices cannot be accommodated. No photography service is provided during the excursion—you’re welcome to bring cameras onto the boat, but you assume all liability for the loss of anything you bring up with you. (Understandably, anything dropped into the ocean can’t be retrieved.)

This is one of the least expensive, most rewarding shore excursions offered on a Disney cruise. We recommend it for every family. Cost is $18 for kids ages 5–9 for one day, $23 for two days; $34 for age 10 and up for one day, $45 for two days.

First, find some chairs on the family beach, where you can store your stuff while you’re in the water. If possible, choose something near a vertical landmark such as a tree; it will be easier to find when you come back to shore.

Next, pick up your snorkeling gear at Gil’s Fins and Boats, a short walk from Scuttle’s Cove, the island’s first tram stop. You’ll be given a mask, snorkel, fins, and an inflatable buoyancy vest to make swimming easier. Also pick up a blue-mesh gear bag, which makes it easier to haul your stuff back to your beach chairs.

Put on your vest before you get in the water, but don’t inflate it just yet. Wait until you’re in hip-high water to put on your flippers because it’s impossible to walk in them on shore (and they’ll get sandy). Keep your mask off until you get into the water.

If you’re snorkeling with younger children, plan on spending 10–15 minutes adjusting the fit of masks and vests. Inflate their vests by blowing into the vertical tube on the left side of the vest, adding just enough air to keep the top of their heads above water. (If you over inflate the vests, they’ll have trouble getting their masks below the surface.) Also, practice using the flippers, which work best with slow, deliberate leg movements.

Once everyone’s gear is working, take one last look at the lagoon to get your bearings. Disney has placed orange-and-white buoys above the underwater sites, so head for those. There usually aren’t a lot of fish in the first 30–40 yards nearest the shore, though it’s possible to see almost anything once you’re in the water. Fish species in the lagoon include yellowtail snapper, sergeant major, banded buttery fish, blue tang, and barracuda. Obviously, you shouldn’t try to catch any of these fish with your hands.

If you’ve snorkeled before and you enjoy it, Castaway Cay offers another snorkeling excursion in the waters off the island. You board a 28-foot Zodiac rigid-hull inflatable boat and head 30 minutes offshore for a 90-minute open-water snorkeling session. Cost is $122 for adults, $109 for kids ages 6–9.

WALKING AND KAYAK NATURE ADVENTURE

This port adventure begins at Marge’s Barges, where everyone boards a tram to the Serenity Bay adult beach. Next you walk behind the adult beach cabanas to a nature trail, which leads to the beach beyond. During the walk, your guide will point out interesting plants and animals and talk about the history of the Bahamas.

Upon reaching the beach, participants don their life jackets and head out in their kayaks. This is the part where you’re at Mother Nature’s whim. We took this tour after a friend raved about it. She headed out in the morning and was able to kayak to the interior of the island. Our own tour was later in the afternoon as the tide was going out. The interior of the island was inaccessible by kayak, and the tides made piloting our single kayak very difficult. We wouldn’t book this adventure in the afternoon again, even if it were the only time available.

Even if you’re able to book this in the morning, however, the tour is 3–3.5 hours long—time you could spend snorkeling, biking, or lazing on the beach. Ideally, you would book this on the morning of the second stop of a five-night Castaway Cay cruise.

Be sure to bring walking shoes, sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and an underwater or water-resistant camera; consider gloves for paddling to avoid blisters. Wear a swimsuit under your clothes for swimming. You must stow your belongings on the beach for the kayaking, so leave the doubloons in the cabin. Water is provided. Cost is $73 for guests age 10 and up.

The Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of different cruises for all sorts of vacations. You can sail to the Bahamas and the Caribbean , Europe and the Mediterranean , Alaska, and more ! Deciding when to book your cruise can mean the difference between getting a great deal or paying a pretty penny, and choosing when to sail can be an even tougher decision.

When to Book Your Disney Cruise

You might think that it doesn’t matter when you actually book your cruise — but it does! Generally speaking, the further away from your selected sail date you book your cruise the better.

The Disney Cruise Line has tiered pricing , meaning you’ll find lower rates the earlier you book . Not only will you potentially save money, but booking early also increases the choice of staterooms you’ll have . Cruises tend to fill up closer to the sail date, and if you wait to make a reservation you might be left with slim pickings when it comes to your accommodations.

When to Set Sail on Your Disney Cruise

The best time of year to set sail on a Disney cruise entirely depends on your cruise destination! Each region has its own “high season” — the busiest times of the year — and a “shoulder” or “low season.” Booking a cruise during the shoulder or lower seasons can often mean cheaper rates and less crowded destinations.

For the Bahamas and Caribbean, September is usually the best time as school has just started back up in the U.S. and families are less likely to travel. March, April, and November are the low season for Mediterranean cruises, and the remainder of Europe is best sailed during May and October . If you’re thinking about an Alaskan cruise, May through September are the best months for that.

Typically, you’ll want to avoid any major holidays or times when kids are out of school . Cruises that take place over weekends are also often busier , so if it fits into your schedule consider booking a trip that primarily takes place over weekdays.

Another fairly obvious but extremely important factor to consider is the weather during your planned sailing dates — this is especially true for the Bahamas and Caribbean, which often see tropical weather systems year after year. Hurricane season runs from June to November , so keep that in mind when deciding what time of year is best for your cruise.

We have been on the Wonder and the Dream. Totally enjoyed the cruises. After seeing the Wish, not sure that we would like it. Marvel has never been “Disney” to us, so the Marvel stuff is not for our liking. We will probably go to Port Lauderdale for the Dream cruises.

Disney Cruise Line names its newest cruise ship

I t was bound to happen sometime, but Disney Cruise Line waited until its last of three new sister ships to name one Disney Destiny.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022 and the soon-to-debut Disney Treasure arriving in Central Florida this December, the third ship in what was originally called the Trident class had its keel laying ceremony Wednesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It won’t start sailing until 2025, and its home port has yet to be named, but among the details revealed for what will be the eighth ship in the cruise line’s fleet was the theme of the vessel, “Heroes & Villains.”

As such, the filigree artwork for the bow will be of Minnie Mouse wearing a superhero-style outfit complete with a cape.

The cruise line said among the characters from which it will mine features on board will be classic Disney animation films, “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

Disney of course owns plenty of good vs. evil intellectual property including Star Wars and Marvel.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for the cruise line, in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising.”

Just like Disney Wish and Treasure, Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce emissions.

All three are the 144,000 gross-ton, 1,254-stateroom vessels but still targeting the 4,000-passenger capacity of its older ships, 2011’s Disney Dream and 2012’s Fantasy. The line’s first ships are the smaller Disney Magic that debuted in 1998 and Disney Wonder in 1999. They come in at 84,000 gross tons with 875 staterooms.

The line also is finishing construction for an Asia-bound cruise ship named Disney Adventure that will be the largest in the fleet at 208,000 gross tons.

Disney Wish became the line’s first new ship in more than a decade. It continues to do short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings while Disney Treasure will pick up seven-night trips to the Caribbean.
