Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band announced Tuesday that they are adding a pair of concerts at the Kia Forum in Inglewood to their 2023 tour.

But Southern California fans will have to wait until Dec. 4 and Dec. 6 to see the Boss. The Forum concerts are a part of 22 new shows in 18 North American cities added to Springsteen’s international tour.

Ticket sales for the new dates will begin Feb. 19 through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program. The on-sale date for the Forum shows is Feb. 23.

The first leg of the tour kicked off earlier this month in Tampa, Fla., and will end the 33-show run in Springsteen’s home state of New Jersey. Springsteen and his band are famous for their marathon performances (including the longest show in U.S. history ) that often last more than three hours. The group already hit that mark during a 27-song set in Dallas over the weekend, according to the Dallas Observer .

The second leg of the tour, announced on Springsteen’s website , will start at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on Aug. 9 and also includes multiple nights in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Toronto.

$5,000 freeze-out: Bruce Springsteen fans feel betrayed by ‘crazed’ concert ticket prices

A ticketing practice known as ‘dynamic pricing’ caused some serious sticker shock for fans hoping to see the Boss on his 2023 tour.

July 29, 2022

For many of the added cities, the tour will continue to use Ticketmaster’s controversial Verified Fan program, which weeds out bots to cut off the multibillion-dollar resale business by using “dynamic pricing,” adjusting ticket prices to “fair value” based on demand.

However, many fans think tickets are unfairly inflated and unaffordable. Springsteen’s most recent announcement is already drawing ire, with some calling the program “ bogus ,” “ ridiculous ,” and “ rubbish .”

“Do NOT fall for the Verified Fan BS that drives prices through the roof up and kicks algorithm in for dynamic pricing!” wrote one fan on Twitter.

How Ticketmaster became the most hated name in music

Fans, politicians and even artists were complaining about Ticketmaster long before Taylor Swift filled stadiums. But experts say the anger may be misplaced.

Jan. 23, 2023

“Sure, just let me remortgage my house to get a ticket, pfft…,” a fan sarcastically commented .

“I’ll list my kidney on Marketplace today and hope for the best!” wrote another .

Mega pop stars such as Springsteen, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles have used the Verified program for the last half decade . Sprinsgteen fans complained last summer when the 2023 tour tickets went on sale and some floor tickets jumped as high as $5,000 .

Springsteen acknowledged the higher prices in November, telling Rolling Stone that they are still “totally affordable.”

He admitted things have gotten more confusing for fans, but defended the Verified Fan program and dynamic pricing. He said they ultimately help put money from ticket sales into the pockets of artists and not scalpers.

“I’m going, ‘Hey, why shouldn’t that money go to the guys that are going to be up there sweating three hours a night for it?’” Sprinsgteen said in the interview.

“And so at that point, we went for it. I know it was unpopular with some fans,” he further explained. “But if there’s any complaints on the way out, you can have your money back.”

The program famously collapsed last fall during ticket sales for Swift’s Eras tour, with Ticketmaster blaming it on “unprecedented” demand of 3.5 billion attempted sales simultaneously. The debacle has led to a class-action lawsuit and criticism from lawmakers . However, things did go a lot more smoothly with some alterations for sales of Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour .

Bruce Springsteen fans experience sticker shock over 2023 U.S. tour tickets cost

bruce springsteen tour ticket cost

Sticker shock.

That’s what some fans are experiencing who purchased, or tried to purchase, tickets for the six Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 2023 U.S. arena tour concerts that went on sale the morning of Wednesday, July 20.

The price of some floor seats rose to more than $4,000 due to the Ticketmaster dynamic pricing system, which adjusts the price in real time due to demand.

“I assume when Bruce shouts ‘Is anybody alive out there?’ on the next tour, it will be more of a medical check-in on those who had to sell a kidney to be able to afford tickets,” quipped one fan on Twitter.

The base price for the shows was $60 to $399 on Wednesday.

“A lot of rock bands are charging those kinds of prices and are able to do the dynamic pricing, but I kind of wish he put a cap on it or said I’m not comfortable with doing that,” said Brandon Thompson of Moorestown, editor of the Blog It All Night Springsteen news site. “The dynamic pricing has gotten a little out of control with how demand is going.”

Dynamic pricing, also called “Platinum Seats,” “enables market-based pricing (adjusting prices according to supply and demand) for live event tickets, similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold,” states Ticketmaster on its website .

The Springsteen ticket prices are in accordance with industry norms for similar acts. Paul McCartney’s recent “Got Back” and Harry Styles tours used dynamic pricing, and the cost of tickets went into the thousands.

Springsteen, to this point, had held the line on ticket price cost. The pricing of the 2016 and ’17 “River Tour,” the last E Street Band tour, was below the industry average at $68 to $150 for a typical arena show.

“I miss camping out at Jack’s Music Store in Red Bank or calling into WPLJ to win tickets!” tweeted a fan. “(Springsteen) we love you but Ticketmaster is just scalping true fans!”

Some took umbrage that the Springsteen fans who registered as “Verified Fans” on Ticketmaster were subject to dynamic pricing.

“The Verified Fan process is a rigged game,” said Kevin Farrell of Sea Girt. “(Ticketmaster) knows exactly the supply of seats and demand for those seats, so they can control and raise prices at will because of dynamic pricing. The process has turned into an auction, not a ticket buying process, with the auctioneer making sure they get the most money possible.”

A fan asked E Street Band member Little Steven Van Zandt what the deal was on Twitter.

“I have nothing whatsoever to do with the price of tickets. Nothing. Nada. Niente. Bubkis ...,” Van Zandt said.

Tickets for the Tampa, Fla., Orlando, Fla., Hard Rock Live at Hollywood, Fla., Tulsa, Okla.; Denver and Boston shows went on sale Wednesday. Verified resale tickets are currently available for the shows.

Shows at the Toyota Center in Houston, Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Barclays Center in Brooklyn and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland are not being sold through Ticketmaster, and no Verified Fan code is required.

Area shows also include Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 1; two at the new USB Arena in Belmont Park, New York, on April 9 and 11; and the Prudential Center in Newark on April 14 to close the run.

A second North American tour leg will start in August 2023 after stadium shows in Europe. So far, more than 1.2 million tickets to the European shows have been sold.

Bruce Springsteen fans reeling from $4,000 tour tickets, but Ticketmaster says most were under $200

bruce springsteen tour ticket cost

Sticker shock.

That’s what some fans experienced when they purchased, or tried to purchase, tickets for the six Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 2023 U.S. arena tour concerts that went on sale last week.

The price of some floor seats rose to more than $4,000 because of Ticketmaster's "dynamic pricing" system, which adjusts the price in real time based on demand.

“I assume when Bruce shouts ‘Is anybody alive out there?’ on the next tour, it will be more of a medical check-in on those who had to sell a kidney to be able to afford tickets ,” one fan quipped on Twitter.

“(Springsteen) we love you, but Ticketmaster is just scalping true fans !” another tweeted.

But statistics released Sunday by Ticketmaster show 88% of Springsteen fans were able to buy the tickets at face value . Prices for arena shows ranged from $40 to $399 before service fees, and the average ticket price was $202.

Dynamic pricing, also called “platinum seats,” “enables supply-and-demand pricing (adjusting prices according to supply and demand) for live event tickets, similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold,” Ticketmaster's website says.

Ticketmaster said 11.8% of Springsteen tickets were designated platinum, and just 1.3% of tickets across all shows sold for more than $1,000. More than half (56%) of tickets sold for less than $200: 18% were less than $99, 27% between $100 and $150, and 11% between $150 and $200.

The Springsteen ticket prices are in accordance with industry norms for similar acts. Paul McCartney’s recent Got Back and Harry Styles tours used dynamic pricing, and ticket costs went into the thousands.

Prices and formats are consistent with industry standards for top performers, according to Ticketmaster. A representative for Springsteen and the E Street Band had no comment.

Paul McCartney shuts down Glastonbury Festival:  With special guests Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen

Until now, Springsteen had held the line on ticket price cost. The pricing of the last E Street Band tour in 2016 and 2017 was below the industry average at $68 to $150 for a typical arena show.

“I kind of wish he put a cap on it, or said, 'I’m not comfortable with doing that,' ” says Brandon Thompson, editor of the Blog It All Night Springsteen news site. “The dynamic pricing has gotten a little out of control with how demand is going.”

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell of New Jersey, who has previously introduced legislation on the matter, called for Ticketmaster to adjust its policies.

“When Yogi Berra said it’s déjà vu all over again, he could have easily been talking about Ticketmaster and another unwelcome surprise for Springsteen fans ,” said Pascrell in a July 21 statement. “After the long hiatus, we are all excited that Bruce is going back (on) tour. But Americans have the right to enjoy some live entertainment without getting ripped off. Ticketmaster sees popular events as an opportunity to soak regular Americans. My colleagues and I are hearing from irate customers who are fed up.”

Pascrell introduced the BOSS Act, an acronym for “Better Oversight of Secondary Sales and Accountability in Concert Ticketing,” back in 2009. It hasn't passed.

“The fact is that multi-billion dollar live events ticket marketplace cries out for reform. The BOSS ACT legislation I have previously introduced would bring much needed transparency to sale, pricing and distribution of live event tickets,” said Pascrell, who noted he expects to reintroduce the bill.

In response, Ticketmaster said in a statement it was “supportive of industry-wide reforms to bring more clarity to ticket buyers and believe more can be done to aid artists in delivering their tickets to fans at price points they determine" and noted the company had “worked collaboratively with New York policymakers to enact a new law that adds important new protections and transparency for fans.”

Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band alive and well in 3-plus hours of thunderous hits

bruce springsteen tour ticket cost

The pent-up demand for Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band had put ardent fans on edge.

Would the Boss' energy be the same after the rocker was forced to cancel last year's show in March due to illness and then a rescheduled performance in September due to a peptic ulcer?

Did the 74-year-old still have the stamina to navigate a stage for more than three hours? To gyrate with his guitar and hit the high notes of ballads and rock classics? To remember the lyrics as he's done for more than four decades in over 1,300 concerts with the band?

The answer, from about 20,000 devotees at Sunday's concert at Nationwide Arena, was a resounding, deafening "Yes." It was the band's first show in Columbus since 2016.

The tone was set in the opening bars of "Youngstown," a nod to the Rust Belt factories that build the weaponry "that won this country's wars," but then died off to leave empty shells and unemployment. A searing guitar solo by Nils Lofgren infused the song with powerful shards of despair.

And like the canon blast after a Columbus Blue Jackets' goal, "Lonesome Days" followed, with a jarring rim shot by drummer Max Weinberg, a percussive human metronome throughout the sell-out concert that lasted about three hours and 10 minutes.

Springsteen, in a short-sleeve denim shirt, black vest and purple tie, appeared to relish the arena crowd. With eyes often closed, he channeled deeply personal songs like "The Promised Land," The Rising," and "Ghosts."

More: From Cher to Ozzy Osbourne, see the 2024 list of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees

His grimacing was not from bad joints, but during his guitar solos, thrashing the strings during extended versions of favorites such as "Streets of Fire."

He didn't pause much between songs, often exchanging one guitar for another by tossing it to a stagehand, as Weinberg continued to strafe the crowd with nonstop rhythmic transitions.

During "Spirit in the Night," Springsteen graciously walked behind the stage to focus on those seated behind the band, sauntering at times for effect.

He ended up in front, resting his legs on the edge of the stage and his back against saxophonist Jake Clemons, whose uncle Clarence Clemons, also a sax player, was one of Springsteen's closest friends.

While mortality and distant youth were themes that may have resonated with the older crowd, many of whom were in high school or college when Springsteen blasted into stardom in the late 1970s and early '80s, there were also some younger fans.

Michelle Grinestaff and her husband, Jared Schuetter, brought their daughters, Claudia, 14, and Vivian, 12, both of whom had memorized many of Bruce's hits.

"She's been playing Springsteen their entire lives," said Schuetter of his wife.

Grinestaff's attraction followed her father Jerry's, a rabid fan who, two years ago died of pulmonary fibrosis. The night before his passing, she told him she really wanted him to come to last year's concert with the girls. "He said to just make sure you have a good time," she recalled, halting to wipe a tear.

She vividly recalls that Springsteen's "Racing in the Street" was playing while to spoke to her dad. She hoped she'd hear it Sunday night.

Photos: Taylor Swift played 5 concerts in Columbus before release of The Tortured Poets Department

Sure enough, the concert's 19th song, "Racing in the Street," was a beautiful rendition of love, loss and redemption with exquisite interplay between Roy Bittan's piano and Charles Giordano's organ. The audience quickly silenced, seemingly in hushed awe of Springsteen's meticulous alchemy of music and lyrics, considered by many among his best work.

The Boss still is in top form, telling the audience that his little "bellyache" from last year is a memory. "It's all good now," he said. He even skipped across the stage at one point during "Hungry Heart."

Springsteen seems to thrive on the adulation, but not in a selfish manner. He's keenly aware of audience temperament. And knowing when to end a marathon show is about having empathy for the crowd, which stood most of the night.

Typical of the band's recent encores, the iconic "Born to Run" led a string of hits, including "Rosalita (Come out Tonight)," "Bobby Jean," "Dancing in the Dark" and "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out."

Full, bright arena lighting illuminated the crowd during a medley of oldie covers, including a Detroit medley, "Devil with the Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly and C.C. Rider," among others.

Brothers Darrell and Don Miller, of Hilliard, both in their early 60s, recalled before the concert training for high school basketball with a coach playing the song "Born to Run" endlessly to inspire track workouts.

"It's the one song not on my playlist," said Don, "because I had to run laps to that thing for two years."

Live Music: Rap-icon Future coming to Schottenstein Center with Metro Boomin on Aug. 10

Fair Concerts: Ice Cube, Jamey Johnson added to Ohio State Fair's concert lineup

Darrell couldn't help wonder how much longer Springsteen can keep running.

"He's going overseas. This might be his ride off into the sunset," he said.

The blast furnace of a performance is the tour's last in the U.S. as the band now heads to Great Britain to begin its European tour. It returns in late summer, including two shows in Pittsburgh on Aug. 15 and 18.

Toward the show's final encore, "I'll See You in my Dreams," from his 2020 album, "Letter to You," Springsteen bent over in feigned (or likely real) exhaustion.

"I don't think you got anything left," he challenged the crowd, which answered in a deafening roar. "Are you saying you can outlast the E Street Band?"

A test of an artist's emotional reach is often found in the most distant seats. In the upper bowl, at the far end of the Nationwide stage, fans could be seen dancing, pumping their arms and waving.

Springsteen looked skyward, opened his eyes and smiled broadly.

‘Doesn’t she know the cost of living crisis?’ wail Billie Eilish fans over ticket prices for Hit Me Hard And Soft tour

BILLIE Eilish fans in the UK have reacted angrily to the pop superstar's tour ticket prices.

Die-hard supporters flocked to ticketing sites for the Hit Me Hard And Soft tour pre-sale and were left stunned when they were confronted by £145 standing tickets.

Billie Eilish's tour ticket prices have left fans shocked

Many simply closed the site and refused to pay the eye-watering sum, while others raged about it on the social media platform X.

One person wrote: "£145 for Billie Eilish tickets - does she not know there’s a cost of living happening in the UK?"

Another said: "Me coming onto Ticketmaster seeing Billie Eilish prices then coming straight back out again. £145 for standing is this delusion?"

A third complained: "£145 whole English pounds for a standing ticket to @billieeilish at the @TheCoopLive - I think I paid £80 last tour?"

A fourth shared a recent quote from Eilish in which she criticised the commercial nature of the music industry and its obsession with releasing multiple vinyl varieties to increase profits.

They said: "How can you say this and then make your very cheapest standing tickets at your tour that goes on sale the following day after it’s announced, £145… when your audience is mainly teenagers who don’t have the means to pay without their parents."

The post related to an interview Eilish gave to Billboard which seemed to take aim at The Rolling Stones in particular after the veterans released 43 versions of their Hackney Diamonds album.

She said: “I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is.

“I find it really frustrating as somebody who goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable.

"And then it’s some of the biggest artists in the world making 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more.”

Eilish's UK tour will see her play Glasgow, London and Manchester in July and is set to be one of the shows of the summer alongside Taylor Swift, whose record-breaking Eras tour is coming to stadiums in the UK.

Swift's sold out run saw tickets vary from £60 up to £195, with even more for exclusive packages.

PAYING THE PRICE

Eilish is certainly not the only act charging high prices for tours. The explosion in ticket costs post-pandemic has been felt across music genres.

The likes of AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen , Pearl Jam, Adele and Green Day have all surprised fans with ticket costs this year.

Standing tickets for the High Way to Hell rockers' Wembley show on July 3 set some fans back £302.85 on Ticketmaster , while official platinum tickets were an eye-watering £381.80.

Ticketmaster said: "The Event Organiser has priced these tickets according to their market value.

"Tickets do not include VIP packages. Availability and pricing are subject to change."

One fan complained: "Ticket price inflation is insane, way beyond anything else I can think of.

"I get that records aren't selling any more and this is the way that bands make money , but I've been feeling the need to draw the line for a few years now.

"This is the time I've finally done it, I'm not prepared to pay these prices any longer."

Another joked: "In other news anyone want to buy a kidney so I can see ACDC."

Pearl Jam, London Tottenham Stadium - £249

Kylie Minogue (BST, Hyde Park) - £220

Grunge legends Pearl Jam, who recently released critically-acclaimed album Dark Matter, faced similar backlash over their tour which is seeing them play Tottenham Hotspur 's Stadium in June.

For the best standing tickets at that show, punters needed to fork out £249.45 while even the worst seats were £125 before booking fees were added.

One fan raged: "F*****g gutted at the Pearl Jam ticket prices. I was really hoping to see them at last! £150 for nosebleeds. S***e.

Billie Eilish fans lash out at ‘ridiculous’ ticket prices for 2025 tour

Billie Eilish fans have called out the US pop star after it emerged that standing tickets to her forthcoming arena shows were being sold for £145 each.

Pre-sale tickets to the singer’s Hit Me Hard and Soft tour became available between 30 April to 1 May, including early access for American Express card members.

The 22-year-old will be performing a string of dates in the UK and Ireland next year, including five nights at the O2 Arena in London, two nights in Glasgow, four in Manchester and two in Dublin.

In press material announcing the tour, it was revealed that Eilish’s team had chosen to use Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange, meaning fans have the option to resell tickets to other fans in the US or Canada if they are no longer able to attend themselves.

“The tour wants to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value,” the statement said.

As tickets went on sale, however, many fans were dismayed to learn how much they were priced at, with many branding the sum “ridiculous” in the midst of a cost of living crisis.

“I honestly wanted more Billie tickets but £145 for standing is so ridiculous I can’t even process it,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter.

“£145 for Billie Eilish tickets does she not know there’s a cost of living [crisis] happening in the UK,” fan Zoe said.

Another remarked: “Me coming onto Ticketmaster seeing Billie Eilish prices then coming straight back out again. £145 for standing is this delusion?” In the replies, the fan compared the price to the first time she saw Eilish live, when she paid £20 for a ticket.

Not everyone had sympathy for fans though, as some said it was their choice to pay that much for a ticket.

X/Twitter user Billy asked: “At what point do people realise they’re being conned and priced out. If you’re buying tickets at that price then honestly you’re part of the problem now.”

Matt, the writer behind the Scientists of Sound music blog, agreed: “People paying nearly £145 for Billie Eilish tickets are part of the problem. When these venues sell out at these prices artists and promoters couldn’t care less as they’re getting away with it. Fans are being completely priced out of these events and it’s only getting worse.”

One fan, who preferred to remain anonymous, told The Independent that buying tickets to concerts often felt like an “online war”, with fans feeling pressured into paying extortionate sums or else risk missing out.

“Artists and ticketing companies know that their fans will pay any amount of money to see their favourite artists,” he said, “and it’s only getting worse because fandoms are so strong. At what point does it go too far? This feels pretty close.”

At what point does it go too far? This feels pretty close

Confirming he had paid £146 for a standing ticket at the newly built Co-op Live arena in Manchester, the fan admitted he felt exploited.

“I go to quite a few gigs a year, [and] whenever it comes to the bigger shows you’re looking at a minimum of £70 or £80,” he said. “I paid £110 for standing to see Taylor Swift at Wembley, which actually feels like a bit of a bargain now.”

The fan said that artist exploitation went beyond concert tickets: “I’ve got into collecting vinyl recently and didn’t realise how many variants there are per album with exclusive songs or photos or whatever it might be. These artists know that their fans want every version because they love them so much. It just feels unfair.”

Jason Burt bought tickets for his 14-year-old daughter and said they were around the same price they paid for Eilish’s last tour, “but slightly less than I did for [Bruce] Springsteen this time last year”.

“The price is, in my opinion, excessive, despite the fact she will be thrilled by the concert,” he said. “[My daughter] is aware of the cost and appreciates how lucky she is to be able to go.”

Mr Burt said there was “definitely an element of exploitation” involved with artists of Eilish’s size, but questioned how much involvement the artists themselves had in deciding ticket prices.

He also pointed out the other ways in which artists are able to generate revenue from their fans: “If you have 30+ formats of an album, for example, there is an implicit understanding that some fans will buy all of them, which in turns pushes its chart position exponentially,” he said.

“Similarly, merch at gigs. Some will want all of it. As a parent, I wouldn’t buy it all and i’m lucky my daughter has no interest in that level of ‘completism’, but I’m sure it puts pressure on parents at a time we can least afford it.”

A representative for Eilish declined to comment when contacted by The Independent.

Eilish recently hit out at major artists making “40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing ust to get you to keep buying more”, branding the practice “wasteful”.

She was later forced to clarify that she was not calling out fellow pop star Taylor Swift, who had recently announced a number of different versions of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.

“I wasn’t singling anyone out, these are industry-wide systemic issues. and when it comes to variants, so many artists release them, including ME! Which I clearly state in the article,” Eilish wrote on Instagram.

“The climate crisis is now and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better sheesh.”
