Customer Reviews
All day adventure with many unbelievably memorable stops along the way. Snorkelling Thunderball Grotto was the highlight of my day. My husband loved swimming with the nurse sharks. Our travelling friends loved the swimming pigs and iguanas. The hospitality and professionalism of Captain Robert, Captain William, and Atwique (sp?) made the day worry free and relaxing. The boat was a surprisingly smooth ride on a windy day (18 mph wind).
If you do one thing while in Exuma, book a trip with Robert!! We had an absolutely perfect day on the full day tour of the cays! Beer and rum punch provided, stops at pig beach, iguana island, thunderball grotto, swimming with sharks, the sandbar, a stop for lunch, and several other stops along the way where the crew will point out celebrity’s homes and private islands. A taxi provided by Roberts staff picked us up outside of Sandals resort and then drove us back at the end of the day. Amazing day!!
It was a one of a kind trip! A memorable one! We went to the iguanas fed them, then over to the pigs which was super cool then onto the nurse sharks in compass cay. After that we went we stopped for lunch which was a buffet with a beautiful view. We also saw Pablo Escobar’s sunken plane although the tide was high so couldn’t see much, we also saw turtles, stopped at a sandbank where i found 2 sandollars and lastly snorkled at the mermaid piano which was great. It was just the perfect day thankyou!!🥰🥰💗
We had the time of our life at the tour. Perfect way to se the swimming pigs. Also we enjoyed swimming with small sharks, seing iguanas, diving into the James Bond Thunderball Grotto. We saw turtles, stingrays, the Sandbar and had a great bahimian lunch. We caught a little caribian shower on the way back in the boat but that was just a nice experience. All the best recommendations to the staf and this great tour. Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰🇧🇸🏝☀️👍🏻
Two points to make. 1) When inquiring, booking and confirming, the correspondence was professional and timely. Keep in mind, it's not easy to respond to emails from the middle of the ocean. I even did two trips (full day swim w/ pigs, etc. and half day fishing charter). 2) The captains and their mates were polite, entertaining, generous, etc. I highly recommend Robert's.
Me and my girlfriend decided to go on a full day excursion and chose Roberts Island Adventures. The experience was an unforgettable one ! 10/10, William and Yellow made the experience worth while, being very informative about the tour and making it fun with beers and gombay smash ! Would highly recommend these guys, won’t regret it.

CAPT. THOMSON'S RESORT - Updated 2024 Prices, Reviews, and Photos
Experience the thrill of encountering dolphin in their natural habitat while taking in breathtaking views of Tybee’s serene coastal waters. From historic lighthouses, to majestic Fort Pulaski, to dolphins playing next to the boat, our tours offer something for everyone! And oh, did we mention our enchanting sunset cruises?
Cockspur Lighthouse Live
What makes our dolphin tour different from the competition?
- Our boats have the higher horsepower engines which produce a wake (waves behind the boat). Dolphins just love to jump in our wake. (if dolphins are mating or feeding we will not attempt to get them to jump)
- We allow you to bring your own food and drinks on board. For those of you who don’t want to bring your own, we have drinks and snacks for sale at our dock house.
- We never take a boat to capacity unless a private group has consented for us to do so. When you book a tour, we want you to be comfortable and not packed in like sardines!
- We do not force you to stand for the duration of the tour. Everyone gets a seat, and you are welcome to walk around once the all clear has been given. There is plenty of shade on each boat as well as uncovered areas for those who like the sun.
Daytime Dolphin Tours
- Tours are historically narrated with each first mate and captain adding their own stories here and there and maybe even a corny joke or two. We invite you to come join us! Each tour is its own unique adventure sure to create memories of a lifetime! Tours last 1 to 1.5 hours.
Sunset Dolphin Tours
- Our Sunset Dolphin Tours combine the thrills of our regular dolphin tours with the magnificent beauty of the sunset. Wow moments await! Tours last 1 to 1.5 hours.
Private Tours
- If you are want a private tour just for your group, give us a call and we will be happy to discuss our rates and availabilities.
Group Tours
- We offer reduced rates for groups of 10 or more. Our boats are able to accommodate groups of up to 137. Our largest boat, appropriately named Monster, can comfortably accommodate up to 62 passengers, so we are able to take a bus full on just one boat!
Daytime Tours:
- Adults $27.95 plus tax (ages 13+)
- Children ages 12 and under $17.95 plus tax
- Children ages 2 and under are $5.00 plus tax
Sunset Dolphin Tours:
- Adults $37.95 plus tax (ages 13+)
- Children ages 12 and under $22.95 plus tax
Private Tours and Group Rates:
- Are available upon request. Please call for pricing.
We are located at....
Handicap Accessibility
"restrooms on board every boat", pet friendly, dolphin guarantee.
A few of our boats are handicap accessible, but please call before booking to let us know you have a disability which requires the handicap accessible boat. We will be happy to check availability and will add a note to your booking that you will need assistance.
If you or a member of your party is handicapped, we do have parking close to our dock. Our handicap parking entrance is directly across the highway from the Welcome to Tybee Island sign. The driveway is marked as private property, but it is ok to park there if you are handicapped and if you are booked on our tour.
We are pet friendly as long as the pet is people friendly. If your dog is a “barker” please be considerate of your fellow passengers and do not bring the dog on board. Also, we ask that your pet be up to date on all his or her vaccinations. And our pet friendly policy is for dogs only, and it certainly does not include pet reptiles. Yes, we had an albino python once, so we feel forced to amend our pet policy. 🙂
One of our captains is fond of saying “This is the real world not Sea World!” We would love to say that we find dolphin on every tour, but dolphin are wild animals, and every now and then we get… well, we get “skunked”. If you don’t find dolphin on a tour, you are welcome to go again for free. And, we go one step better! If you are on a tour and the captain feels that the dolphin sightings aren’t up to par with our usual dolphin experience, we will also honor our dolphin guarantee. We understand that people may be going back home after their Tybee Island vacation, but rest assured, our dolphin guarantee has no expiration date! We flag the trips that do not find dolphin so that there is no hassle when you take us up on your guarantee.

Gabrielle was extremely helpful, patient, and efficient when helping me choose a room. All the rooms have water views and some have castle views. Lobby was welcoming. Beds were comfy and warm.

The office went out of the way to accommodate us on very short notice. We were originally booked at Bonnie castle but one night there and we were gone! Rooms very clean and nicely decorated. We enjoyed watching the boats dock from our balcony. With proper planning you can get rooms overlooking the river with great views of Bolt castle. Great location in town as you can walk easily anywhere
I researched the area very well prior to booking our weekend getaway at Capt Thomson's, and we were not disappointed. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and our main channel room balcony looked directly over to Boldts Castle. The staff was very accommodating. The decor was nice too--nautical themed. Only downfall was our noisy upstairs neighbors; however, this is not the fault of the hotel and I am sure if we would have brought it to the front desks attention they would've helped, but we just dealt with it. We will be sure to stay here again on our next visit to Alex Bay! Thank you for helping us have a wonderful anniversary getaway!
Capt Thomson's is only a "resort" if you look at it that way. In reality, it's a motel. I knew this when I booked it, but their name should really probably end with, say, "Motel" or "Lodge by the River." Their best feature? Those wonderful private balconies that back right up to the channel/harbor. If you choose the "Main Channel" rooms, you could NOT ask for a better vaca-view. You get the Boldt Castle. You get the ships that go by. You get the birds and the nature and the islands and the most lovely sunsets. Man. It's just so relaxing and peaceful. Minus the mosquitoes. Those little tool-bags can go fall down a massive abyss together. Yuck. Don't forget the insect repellent! As for the actual rooms: they are motel rooms. Don't expect anything more and you won't be disappointed. They're perfectly fine. Aside from the mosquito massacre we performed on the ceiling (may you all rest in mosquito-heaven peace), they were clean. I usually pocket the little shampoos and conditioners from hotels, but I didn't this time because they weren't that great. The beds were fine, but didn't seem to have been updated any time recently. Capt Thomson's most definitely has the prime real estate in Alexandria Bay. They're right next to Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. You should stay here if you want to take a boat tour. And you want to take a boat tour. So you probably want to stay here. That was our rationale, at least. Plus, Alex Bay has lots of gift shops nearby, too. Make sure to also check out the wine trail! To sum up: If you're headed to the 1,000 Islands, want to take a boat tour of the 1,000 Islands, and want a decent, clean place to stay for a good price: this is a good option -- at least from what I experienced during my June '14 visit.
We stopped here based on Yelp rating. The front desk was very accommodating. The room was neat, clean and perfect. The view of Boldt Castle and the water from our balcony is amazing. Beautiful place we don't want to go home.
Looking at Boldt Castle from room balcony
So so so bad, terrible experience, $250 per room ,the room very broken and old, there is a terrible smell and the pillow smell is very smelly! I hope not someone cheated again!

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay in the Alexandria Bay that would give us the best Thousand Islands experience. Searching online, it was difficult to see the difference between the different resorts. We picked Capt Thomson's Resort based partially on reviews, but largely on their location on the St. Lawrence River. The hotel has three wings, each offering different views. We stayed in the Main Channel wing and I would highly recommend the same to anyone wishing to stay here. You wake up and go to bed with spectacular views of Boldt castle. I'm convinced that there are not any better views of the castle at other lodging options. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived a little early, but they still let us check in. The cleaners always greeted you with a smile while passing by. During our stay, I found myself needing to print/sign/fax documents for work, and the workers at the front desk were quick to help me finish my business and get on with a relaxing vacation. We found the facilities to be clean. It seems most of the options in Alex Bay are motel style "resorts" and this is no different. The private balcony with a beautiful view is what distinguishes this place. They are also located immediately adjacent to Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. You can even find deals that bundle boat tours together with your hotel stay. They offer free wi-fi. The pools were clean and the water felt warm (we didn't swim). At first glance it appears as they had a hot-tub, but it's just a kiddie pool. Overall, I was very pleased with our stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Alex Bay. I would definitely stay here again!
The view from a Main Channel room balcony (second floor)
We were here 2 nights with a tour group. We had been promised a view of the river and the Boldt Castle, and when we arrived the rooms we were given did NOT have a view of either of these but of the marina - with a big tour boat right outside our balcony. Also, our travel company said that there were views of the islands, river, and Boldt castle from the resort. This was only true if your room was in the Main Channel section, as far as we could tell. We were NOT able to be moved into this area! We agreed that this was our tour company's fault and probably not that of the "resort" hotel. Megan at the front desk was very helpful. Her manager Chuck was not, and had an attitude when we asked about being on a waiting list for a Main Channel 2 bed room in case one came open. There were NO VIEWS of the river, islands, or Boldt Castle from the "resort", No one at the hotel told us about a hidden gazebo in front of one of the hotel buildings that did have a view. The "resort" brochure states that there are views of river traffic, but we could not find a place to see these views, except near the gazebo that was very hard to find and on somewhat dangerous ground (no railings - you could fall right into the river). We found it the second day, AFTER we had missed the first night's sunset, which we really wanted to see. There were no maps of the area or businesses in the rooms or the office. Megan got a map out of her car and made us a copy, but the map was not complete and did not show the nice park on Casino Island that we discovered on our own the second day to watch the river and the sunset. We had to walk awhile in the dark to get back. The restaurant next door was closed and gated so we could not see anything from there. It would have been nice if it was open - we would have eaten there for sure! The room itself was OK.
Not so bad , needs updating of rooms. Nice people at front desk and with the room they let you park for free. The gem of the motel is the view from the lake side rooms beautiful and great view of heart island
Staff was friendly and accomodating. The hotel is a little dated, but then again has some of the best views...so I was willing to put up with the fact that it looks like a motel from the 70's. We had a room on the main channel, which was perfect. We were able to sit out on our deck and watch the sunset over Boldt Castle, which was really nice. Also - watching the boats and ships go by was pretty neat too. It wasn't very expensive either, so that was a plus. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Testimonials.
We had the best time with Perez and his first mate PJ! We had a full day on their boat and could not have asked for a better, more personalized experience. Their knowledge of Exuma and its surrounding cays is extensive. If you want an experience where you can do it all (grotto, pigs, sharks, an amazing sandbar with the BEST fresh-made-in-front-of-you conch salad, a delicious Bahamian lunch, iguanas, etc.) AND have a top notch personalized experience, then look no further than Crazy Bahamian. We can’t wait to come back for round two!
Julia D. Georgia, USA
Perez and PJ provided an exceptional Exuma private boat tour for my family and I. He tailored the tour to our interests and made sure we experienced the best of what Exuma has to offer. Swim with pigs, nurse sharks, and we saw turtles. The highlight was a secluded beach picnic where we savored freshly caught seafood while basking in the stunning surroundings. Perez is a skilled and experienced captain who made us feel safe, comfortable, and well-cared-for throughout the trip. We highly recommend Perez for a private tour of the Exumas – it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that exceeded all our expectations!
Kate S. Vancouver, Canada
Booking a private boat tour with Perez for our Exuma adventure was the best decision I could have made! From start to finish, Perez and his son went above and beyond to make our experience truly exceptional. When I was afraid to enter the Thunderball Grotto, PJ was extremely patient and guided me slowly and carefully into and out of the grotto. The personalized attention and exceptional service he provided were unmatched, making us feel like VIPs throughout the entire tour! I highly recommend this father and son team if you need a private charter.

Great experience with a GREAT Captain, Capt. Thompson
2 hour airboat ride in the Everglades! Added this to my Bucket list! The Capt. was a born and raised Floridian! Knowledge was great and his personality even better! We enjoyed knowing that Down South was a family business. Could not have asked for a better day! Thanks Guys! :)
We would like to thank you so much for taken the time and letting us show you the true beauty of the Everglades. We hope that if you are ever In the area you come back and ride with us again. Thank you for your support. Your Down South team
We loved our air boat tour! My family of 4 (including a 1-year-old and 3-year-old) had a really enjoyable few hours out exploring the everglades. Our captain, Alex, was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the area and the preservation of the delicate eco-system. We were initially a little worried about how our children would cope with the noisy air boat, but our 3-year-old loved having his own headset with microphone to communicate with us, and our 1-year-old spent most of the tour with her own headphones on, sound asleep in my lap! We saw plenty of bird life and a few alligators along the way, and we learned a great deal about the history of this area. Gary (the owner) was friendly, fast and efficient in his initial email contact with us. Highly recommended!
We chose the trip with Down South airboat tours due to the previous recommendations on trip advisor. We were not disappointed. The location for this airboat ride is unique because it is on Indian land. For those of you who have not visited this area previously boat tours in the national Park are not on air boats which really were a fun experience. Other airboat companies are in a different area that shows a very limited 7 mile strip in the mangrove area. That is not the real Everglades experience. This trip combined the fun airboat ride with a true view of the Everglades. Captain Donny was very knowledgeable and friendly. We happen to be there on a cool day but it was absolutely beautiful and unique. The birds were abundant. We did not see alligators which they feel very badly about, but it was clearly out of their control due to the cold weather. This did not make the trip any less amazing. I am quite sure that on typical days alligators abound. Despite being a small company, they are completely professional and really wanted to make sure we had a great experience. I would highly recommend this unique experience for anyone wanting to see the real Everglades on an airboat tour.

I highly recommend this company. They sent me instructions via phone text how to get to the boat ramp where we were met for our air boat ride. The directions were really good and made it easy to find this place in a rural area. It is not in a big tourist trap site like Everglades City, etc. It is in the heart of the Everglades. Once you get aboard, they take you about 40 miles further into the Everglades. We had Capt. Thompson. He is awesome and very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. He is very friendly, nice and funny and all 6 of us in my party really liked him a lot. We loved the headsets they let us wear. We could talk to the Captain and each other. I've been on other airboats and you can't hold a conversation as it is so noisy. These headsets cut out the noise and you can talk to each other and hear the capt. describe the area and point out sites and points of things of interest.. This experience far exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend booking with with Down South Airboat Tours. They seem to be a small privately run company and care about giving you a great experience for your money spent. It was fun, exciting, serene in some areas, educational and amazing. We saw a bird (Anhinga) that some people the day before came from Switzerland to see. They were avid bird watchers and came all the way to the Everglades just to see this particular bird. I feel fortunate to have seen it. We saw plenty of alligators, even a mother gator with a nest of babies. We saw Indian huts on one of the little islands where they spend some of their time like people up North might have a cabin on a lake or a cabin in the mountains. Well, these thatched roof huts are the Indians place where they like to get away to.
We selected Down South based on the TripAdvisor reviews. We drove in from Miami, and I have to say my hubby began to worry why we were passing the touristy gator parks and airboat rides to meet up at a public boat launch.... I was a little concerned when he pointed this out, but we kept faith in other TripAdvisor users - and you did not let us down!! Gary was waiting for us, and we were underway instantly. He was charming, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the Everglades. And I was *shocked* at the *dozens of gators we spotted on our tour (he even knew two spots that had BABIES!!). He was very respectful of the creatures, and we were able to stop and watch without disturbing them - even the babies! The best part? We were COMPLETELY alone in this huge expanse of the glades -we *never ONCE* saw another commercial airboat, only coming across one local fellow fishing off his boat. 😊 It was like we had the whole Everglades to ourselves for a two-hour tour! A-MAZ-ING!! Highly recommend for a unique vacation experience! (Pics courtesy of our tween!)

These guys know how to do it. It feels like a very personal trip and these guys know their stuff. It's a beautiful trip too so they know when it's time to just relax and view the scenery and not "over narrate". Overall I'm glad we made the extra 30 min trip Pro tip. From Marco budget 90 mins drive. Worst case you get there 10 mins early.
