Carnival Cruise Line 2024 Drink Menus and Pricing
Last Updated on April 17, 2024
In the past, embarking on a cruise meant encountering the same routine selection of beverages across all venues. Your options typically included classics like daiquiris, pina coladas, and, if the menu dared to be bold, perhaps a mojito. Today, the drink landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Cruise ship bars now boast a diverse array of choices, featuring craft beers, premium spirits, and meticulously concocted cocktails. It’s an entirely new experience.
Carnival Cruise Line, in particular, has taken this evolution to heart, revolutionizing its drink offerings with a tailored menu for almost every bar on their ships. This accomplishment is noteworthy, especially when considering that a single ship can host between 10 and 15 bars.
Carnival will be increasing drink menu prices in the first part of 2024. The new menus are already in place on the Carnival Jubilee and we expect other ships to follow in January and February.

Below you’ll find the bar menus found on the Carnival Cruise Line’s ships. Carnival has a pretty robust beverage program and usually has different drinks available at nearly every bar on a ship, so you’ll see a ton of drink options below. For drinks offered at multiple venues, the prices are consistent (i.e., a Coors Light and the Atrium Bar will cost the same as a Coors Light at the Pool Bar). When looking at the prices, remember to consider gratuities. Carnival automatically adds an 18% gratuity added to all beverage purchases.

Alchemy Bar is Carnival’s signature high-end cocktail bar. It’s an excellent place for pre- or post-dinner drinks. Here, experienced bartenders whip up some delicious, hand-crafted cocktails. This bar is on almost every Carnival ship (except the Carnival Venezia and Carnival Firenze). Our favorite cocktails here are the Cucumber Sunrise and the Chipotle Pineapple Martini
Menu is from Carnival Jubilee December 2023.
The Amari Bar is an elevated, Italian-themed cocktail bar currently only available on the Carnival Venezia . Amari Bar replaces the popular Alchemy Bar and but still features 5 of that bar’s more popular cocktails.
Menus are from Carnival Venezia February2023.
This bar is available on most Carnival cruise ships. While it has different names, this menu is typically found at the bar in the ship’s lobby or atrium. You can also find this menu in most of the dining rooms.
Bar 820 is the indoor/outdoor bar located on the Carnival Celebration (it replaces the Bar Della Rosa on Mardi Gras). They specialize in cocktails with a distinct Miami twist and are made with Miami-sourced ingredients.
Bar Della Rosa can be found exclusively on the Carnival Mardi Gras . It’s an inside/outside bar with Italian-themed cocktails.
Blue Iguana Tequila Bar Menu
The Blue Iguana Tequila Bar is a pool-side bar located by the Lido Pool on almost every Carnival ship except for the Mardi Gras, Celebration, Jubilee, Firenze, and Venezia.
Bonsai Sushi Cocktail Menu
Bonsai Sushi is the place to go if you’re looking for fresh sushi on a Carnival cruise. While you’re there, have one of these specialty cocktails. Unfortunately, cocktails are unavailable on Ecstasy, Elation, Freedom, and Miracle as they have a Bonsai Sushi Express, not a dedicated restaurant.
Menu is from the Carnival Radiance January 2024.
Brass Magnolia Bar Menu
Brass Magnolia is a New Orleans-themed themed bar located in the French Quarter Zone on the Carnival Mardi Gras .
Carnevale Bar & Lounge replaces the Havana Bar found on the Vista-class ships. It’s inspired by the Carnevale di Venezia, an annual festival held in Venice. Guests will find live music and fine Italian wines and cocktails. It’s currently only available on the Carnival Venezia .
Casino Bar Drink Menu
The Casino Bar can currently be found on most Carnival ships except for the Horizon, Vista, and Panorama where they were removed ( learn more here ).
ChiBang Wine List and Cocktail Menu
ChiBang is an included specialty restaurant on the Carnival Mardi Gras , Carnival Celebra tion and Carnival Jubilee . It serves Chinese and Mexican dishes, so you’ll see some interesting cocktail choices here.
Menu is from Carnival Celebration February 2024.
Cucina del Capitano Cocktail and Wine List
Cucina del Capitano is Carnival’s signature Italian specialty restaurant. It’s available on many ships across the fleet ( see here for full list ).
Menu is from Carnival Jubilee February 2024.
Dr Ink’s PH D
This cleverly named bar serves unique underwater concoctions. You can find it in the Currents zone only on the Carnival Jubilee.
Emeril’s Bistro 1396 Drink Menu
Emerils Bistro 1396 is a quick-service restaurant located in the French Quarter of the Carnival Mardi Gras .
Fahrenheit 555 Wine List and Cocktail Menu
The steakhouse is a staple on almost every Carnival cruise ship. On the newer ships, it’s called Fahrenheit 555 . On older ships, it may have a different name, like “David’s Steakhouse,” but the drink menus are similar.
Menu is from the Carnival Radiance February 2024.
Golden Jubilee Bar
The Golden Jubilee is a new bar that pays tribute to Carnival’s 50 years of sailing. It’s available exclusively on Carnival Celebration in the 820 Biscayne zone.
Golden Mermaid Bar
The Golden Mermaid is a new bar which features cocktails inspired by precious gemstones and metals are made with edible glitter, as well as drinks presented in pretty glassware and adorned with graceful garnishes for an elevated experience. It’s available exclusively on Carnival Jubilee in the Currents zone. It is located where the Brass Magnolia bar is on the Mardi Gras and Golden Jubilee on the Celebration.
Fortune Teller Bar
The Fortune Teller Bar is beautifully themed with some truly unique and out-of-this-world cocktails. It’s available exclusively on the Carnival Mardi Gras in the French Quarter zone.
Frizzante is a new bar that specializes in bubble drinks and beverages on the Carnival Venezia . It’s located outside the new specialty restaurant and around the corner from the Gondola Lounge (Ocean Plaza on Vista-class ships). It offers bubbles, spritzes, and draft beers. Throughout the day, it also offer specialty coffees and biscotti.
This bar may be confusing because Carnival uses odd naming for their venues. While many ships have “Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ,” few have the actual Smokehouse and Brewhouse, which has cocktails. The Smokehouse/Brewhouse is a sit-down restaurant with a large bar serving some great cocktails. They even have a brewery right inside this bar where they make their own beer! You can find it on the Carnival Celebration , Carnival Horizon , Carnival Jubilee , Carnival Mardi Gras , and Carnival Panorama .
If you’re a beer fan, I highly recommend the Brewery Tour for $30 a person. You can read more about the Carnival Pig & Anchor Brewery Tour here .
The Havana Bar is a Cuban-themed bar located on Carnival Celebration , Carnival Horizon , Carnival Jubilee , Carnival Mardi Gras , Ca r nival Panorama , and Carnival Vista . The inside of the bar is home to lively music most evenings. This bar also has an exterior section, but it’s only accessible to guests staying in the Havana area.
Menu is from the Carnival Mardi Gras February 2024.
Heroes Tribute Bar Drink Menu
The Heroes Tribute Bar and Lounge is a new venue from Carnival that honors the men and women that have served our country. You’ll find this menu on the Carnival Freedom , Carnival Firenze , Carnival Panorama , Carnival Pride , Carnival Radiance , and Carnival Venezia where the Heroes Tribute Bar replaces the SkyBox Sports Bar.
There is also a Heroes Lounge on the Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee but they don’t have a dedicated bar; you use the bar from Guy’s Pig and Anchor Smokehouse (above).
Il Viaggio is a new “elevated” dining experience currently only available on the Carnival Venezia .
Java Blue Drink Menu
JavaBlue Cafe is the premier coffee place that’s on board about half of the Carnival ships. Ships that don’t currently have JavaBlue still have a stand-alone coffee shop under a different name but prices and beverage selection will vary. On Excel-class ships (Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee), Java Blue Cafe also offers sandwiches and snacks throughout the day.
Menu seen on the Carnival Jubilee February 2024.
The Latitudes Bar is dedicated to cocktails found around the world. It’s found exclusively on the Carnival Celebration in The Gateway zone.
This menu is the wine list you’ll find in most of the main dining rooms across the Carnival fleet. If you prefer a cocktail, you can usually use the Atrium Bar Menu .
Marina Bar Menu
Marina Bar is in the Shores Zone on the Carnival Jubilee. It has both indoor and outdoor seating.
Nightclub Cocktail Menu
Not all Carnival ships have a dedicated nightclub anymore. On some of the newer ships, the nightclub takes place in the multi-purpose Liquid Lounge or Limelight Lounge. You’ll usually find this menu out during the nightclub/dancing portion of the evening, after 10 pm.
Ocean Plaza is located on the main promenade and is a great place to grab a drink before an activity happening in Ocean Plaza or if you’d like to grab a drink and sit outside on the Lanai. This bar is on the Carnival Breeze , Carnival Dream , Carnival Horizon , Carnival Magic , Carnival Panorama , and Carnival Vista .
Every Carnival ship has a piano bar that’s hopping every night. While it might not always be named Piano Bar 88, it will have a similar drink menu to the one below.
If you’re going to a Comedy Show on a Carnival ship, you have some specialty cocktails to choose from. Some ships have a dedicated “Punchliner Comedy Club” venue. On the other ones, the comedy club will take place in the Limelight Lounge or another venue with “Lounge” in its name.
The RedFrog Pub is the Caribbean-themed indoor bar that’s located on the lower level of many Carnival ships. It’s different than the RedFrog Rum Bar which is found in the Lido Pool Deck Area. You can find it on the Breeze , Freedom , Legend , Magic , Miracle , Pride , Radiance , Splendor , Spirit , Sunshine , Sunrise , and Valor .

RedFrog Rum Bar Menu
You can find the RedFrog Rum Bar next to the Lido Pool on almost every Carnival ship (except the Venezia and Firenze). It is different from the RedFrog Pub, which is usually an inside bar on the Promenade level of the ship.
On the Mardi Gras, Celebration and Jubilee, it’s been upgraded to a two-story pool-side venue called the RedFrog Tiki bar with a slightly different menu (see below).
Menu is from the Carnival Liberty February 2024.

About half of the Carnival fleet has a SkyBox sports bar where you can watch the game on the big screen and sample one of these cocktails. You can find the SkyBox Sports Bar on the Conquest, Freedom, Glory, Horizon, Liberty, Miracle, Pride, Spirit, Radiance, Sunrise, Sunshine, Valor, and Vista.
Tides Bar Menu
The Tides Bar is the outdoor bar on the aft, or back, of the ship. It may have a different name on some ships, but it’ll be the same menu.
The Watering Hole Bar is located in the Summer Landing Zone on the Carnival Mardi Gras , Carnival Celebration , and Carnival Jubilee .

I understand there is a maximum of 15 drinks a day for the CHEERS! program. With the enhanced program, do non-alcoholic drinks count toward this total? Sodas and other applicable non-alcoholic beverages remain unlimited and will not be counted toward the 15 alcoholic beverages limit, and all other policies and procedures remain the same. Guests are expected to enjoy alcohol responsibly and staff members are trained not to serve guests who appear to be intoxicated. Do you have procedures in place that keep guests from drinking too much? Carnival has a number of procedures in place to monitor guests’ alcohol consumption and bartenders are trained to look for signs of intoxication and will discontinue serving guests who appear to be intoxicated. Certain flags have been built into the system that are designed to monitor guests’ alcohol consumption and encourage responsible use of the program. Does the package have to be purchased for the entire week or can it be purchased on a daily/a la carte basis? The beverage package can only be purchased for the entire voyage at a rate of $59.95 USD per person, per day plus 18% service charge, via Carnival’s website and $64.95 USD per person, per day plus18% service charge, if purchased once on board. Why aren’t full bottles of wine and champagne included in the enhanced program? The program allows guests to purchase drinks on an individual basis at a convenient flat rate and not purchase multiple drinks at one time or bottles of wine and champagne. The program does include a feature that allows guests to purchase full bottles of wine and champagne at a 25 percent discount. I don’t drink alcohol. Am I still able to purchase the Bottomless Bubbles all-inclusive soda program? While guests who purchase the enhanced CHEERS! program receive all of the benefits of the Bottomless Bubbles program, CHEERS! does not replace the Bottomless Bubbles soda program which continues to be available to children at a cost of $6.95 USD per person, per day and adults at a cost of $9.50 USD per person, per day plus 18% service charge, Please note : If one guest (21 or older) in a stateroom purchases CHEERS!, then each adult assigned to the same stateroom must also purchase the program.

It’s important to review the specific policies and restrictions on the official Carnival Cruise Line website or contact the cruise line directly for the most up-to-date information regarding bringing drinks on board.

Carnival Cruise Drink Menus, Bar Prices & More
For many passengers, it’s not a cruise unless they have a drink in their hand. And with Carnival known as the “Fun Ships,” you better believe there are plenty of spots where you can grab an adult beverage and let loose.
In fact, you have an amazing amount of options, not just in spots where you can find something to drink but also in what’s available onboard. From wine to beer to cocktails and more, no matter what you’re craving there will be a spot on the ship where you can find it.
Even so, if you’ve never sailed Carnival, you might have questions about things such as bars available, prices, and even drink menus. Having sailed the cruise line plenty, we can tell you firsthand about the policies and questions that you might have.
Bars Available on a Carnival Cruise
On your ship, there will likely be a dozen or more spots to grab a drink. Many of these bars change across different ships, but there are a few spots that make their way across the fleet and Carnival fans love them. Here are some of the noteworthy spots you’ll likely see, no matter which ship you sail:
Alchemy Bar — Are you looking for a spot where the drinks are more experimental than a typical bar? Alchemy Bar offers the spot, with an old-time pharmacy vibe where the bartenders create “elixirs” using high-end spirits, spices, juices, and maybe even a few things you wouldn’t normally think to include in a beverage.
Havana Bar — As you might guess, Havana Bar keeps with a Cuban theme. If you want a mojito (or a cup of Cuban coffee), this is the place. During the night there is usually live music and dancing, along with a number of spots to sit and have a cozy, intimate chat with someone you love.
RedFrog — Passengers might get a little confused as some ships have a RedFrog Tiki Bar and others have a RedFrog Pub. Nevermind the small difference in name, they have a similar vibe as a fun tropical-themed bar serving beers, rum drinks, and anything else under the sun. If you want a place with an upbeat vibe and a drink with an umbrella in it, make sure to stop by.
SkyBox Sports Bar — Unfortunately if you want to watch the game, it’s normally not available in your cabin. The good news is that TV around the ship (including spots like the casino) have different feeds so if there is a big match or game, you can usually find it. A perfect place to check is the SkyBox Sports Bar. It features plenty of spots to watch the game, multiple TVs and a familiar sports bar vibe.
Beer Station — This isn’t really a bar, but ships across the fleet will have beer stations. This is a self-serve beer spot with a couple of choices. Scan your card, pull the tap, and you’re charged by the ounce that you pour. Options of beer are limited, but it’s also usually the least expensive glass of beer on the ship.
Carnival Cruise Bar Menus
Each bar will offer up a menu that’s unique . So you’ll find drinks served at the RedFrog Tiki Bar that aren’t served at the Havana Bar. And you’ll find drinks at the Havana Bar that aren’t on the menu at the Alchemy Bar.
In general, we suggest using this as a chance to try something new. But just know that if there is something you really want to drink and don’t see it on a menu, don’t hesitate to ask. If it’s something that’s well known, chances are you can have it made for you, no problem.
Here are a few menus from around the ship:
How Much Are Drinks on Carnival?
Menu prices will vary from bar to bar and drink to drink. However, there in general you’ll find that prices are in the following ranges before gratuity:
- Beers: $7-8
- Cocktails: $10-12
- Wine: Varies
Carnival is well-known for offering discounts and deals. For instance, there are offers for buckets of beer that are a discount versus buying individually. Some bars might have happy hour specials. Others may have a special drink of the day that is a deal.
In general, however, you can expect to see these types of menu prices. Don’t forget to add in the 18% gratuity on top of the price.
Understanding Gratuity on Drink Purchases
Like other cruise lines, Carnival has an automatic gratuity on bar purchases. This charge — 18% — is tacked on to any bar purchase.
So if you order a drink with a $10 menu price, you’ll actually pay $11.80 in total. You can’t adjust or remove this gratuity. If you have Carnival’s CHEERS! drink package , then the 18% gratuity is added onto the daily cost of the package instead (and you’re charged nothing at the bar).
In addition, when you get your receipt you’ll also see a line for an additional tip. This isn’t required, but is optional if you are feeling generous.
Bringing Alcohol on a Carnival Cruise
After seeing the prices and gratuities, you might be wondering about just bringing your own drinks from home. While Carnival does let you bring on a small quantity of non-alcoholic drinks (12 cans/cartons per person), beverages like beer and liquor aren’t allowed.
You can, however, bring on a regular-sized bottle of wine or champagne per person with you when you board . So if you have a favorite wine brand or just want to save a little money, this is a smart rule to take advantage of.
Your favorite beer or spirit needs to stay home.
Can I Take My Drink Anywhere on the Ship?
Yes. One policy that can take some getting used to is that you are free to take your drink anywhere on the ship. So if you head to a bar, you can then take the beverage with you to the pool, the dining room, your cabin, or the theater.
There are no “open container” rules like you see on land. The entire ship is open for you to enjoy with a beverage.
Bar Opening Times and Hours of Operation
A Carnival cruise is definitely a “no judgment zone” when it comes to having a drink or two. All you need to do is look at the bar hours of operations.
It’s not that you can get a drink any time of day, but just about. The hours will vary from bar to bar, but with so many on board, there’s often at least one open around the ship outside of the early morning hours.
Some spots open as early as 7-8 a.m. while some have closing times of midnight and others simply say they are open until “Late.” You can check the hours of operation on the Carnival app once on the ship.
CHEERS! Beverage Package
If you’re planning to enjoy a drink or ten on a cruise, then you might be wondering about Carnival’s beverage package — also known as CHEERS! For this package, you pay one set daily fee (the price varies depending when you buy and your trip length) and then you get to order pretty much anything off the menu, as long as it’s under $20 per glass.
These drink packages can make things incredibly convenient. When you’re thirsty, you simply head to the bar and don’t have to worry about a bar tab.
In general the Carnival drink package is one of the better offers compared to most cruise lines, but there are definitely things to know in the fine print. We cover everything about the CHEERS! beverage package in our article here .
Drinking Age on Carnival
If you are on a Carnival cruise from most places, then you have to be 21 years old to drink on the ship. However, when you are in a port of call, you’re subject to that country’s rules. So on the ship, you have to be 21 years old, but stop in Cozumel and you can drink in port at 18 years old.
Note that if you sail Carnival from Australia, then the drinking age is lowered to 18 years old on the ship.

Carnival Cheers drink package: Will it save you money on your next cruise?
A Carnival cruise vacation just doesn't feel complete without a few fruity frozen cocktails and a nightly glass of wine or two at dinner. Whether you're a casual drinker or a spirits enthusiast, you might be wondering if the Carnival Cheers drink package is right for you.
The beauty of cruising is that almost everything is included — transportation, accommodations, dining and entertainment. But when you're navigating onboard expenses, there's one place where the spending can add up quickly: drinks.
The Carnival Cheers package takes care of drinks by covering almost all of your beverage consumption (alcoholic or otherwise) under one fixed price per day. It can save you money on your next cruise if you're planning to, well, drink like you're on a cruise.
Other cruise lines offer tiered drink packages , breaking out their standard alcoholic selection from the top-shelf liquors. With Carnival Cruise Line's Cheers drink package, however, you get almost all alcoholic drinks up to $20 each.
For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .
To help you decide whether to book the Carnival Cheers package, we'll cover how much it costs, which drinks are included (and perhaps more importantly, which aren't) and whether it's the best option to help you stick to your beverage budget. Plus, we'll show you how to break down whether you're getting a good value based on how much you expect to drink on an average day.
What's included in the Carnival Cheers drink package?
First, let's clarify which beverages are already included in your standard Carnival cruise fare. Non-bottled water, lemonade, unsweetened iced tea, hot chocolate, non-specialty coffee and tea, juices (orange, tomato, apple or grapefruit) and regular, skim and chocolate milk are all available to cruise guests at no additional charge.
Carnival's Cheers package includes all spirits, cocktails, beer and wine by the glass, up to $20 each, plus these additional nonalcoholic options:
- Smoothies, juices and milkshakes
- Specialty coffee and tea
- Virgin drinks, including zero-proof frozen cocktails
- Energy drinks
- Standard 500-milliliter water bottles and other nonalcoholic bottled beverages
- Large water bottles in the dining room and specialty restaurants
The drink package also includes a 25% discount on any spirit or wine by the glass over the $20 limit, bottles of wine and Champagne, and beverage seminars and classes.

The package covers or discounts nearly everything you might want to drink on board, but there are some exceptions. Here's what's not included:
- Bottles of alcohol (aside from beer)
- Large shareable drinks like pitchers, tubes and buckets
- Drinks in souvenir glasses
- Double shots and floaters (because it's like ordering two drinks at once)
- Drinks offered at the gangway or at any port of call, including the cruise line's private islands
- Room service or minibar drinks
- Drinks from automated wine dispensers
Gratuities are also included with the Cheers drink package because you'll be paying an 18% service charge on top of the package price. If you're ordering drinks while within U.S. waters at a port or before embarking from your home port, you will still be charged tax. For example, if you order a $10 drink and the local tax is 10%, you'll be charged $1 for tax but not for the drink itself.
How much does Carnival's drink package cost?
The Carnival Cheers package price starts at $59.95 per person, per day when you purchase it online before the cruise, plus an 18% service charge. It's $64.95 per person, per day (plus the 18% service charge) if you wait until you're on board to purchase Carnival's drink package. Early planners save a little less than 10% by preordering.
If one person in your cabin purchases the Cheers package, every adult age 21 or over in the same room must also do so. The rule aims to keep you from sharing free drinks while paying for only one package. Carnival's terms state there are no exceptions to this rule, and when we contacted the Carnival team, they confirmed that includes pregnant adults.
Related: Are cruise line drinks packages worth the price? What to know before you buy
You have to purchase the package for the duration of the cruise. If you wait until you're on board to buy the package, you must purchase it on the first day of your sailing. You cannot try out the package for a single day or start it midway through the cruise — unless you're sailing from New York or Texas, where drink packages get activated at 6 a.m. on the second day of the cruise due to local laws. The Carnival Cheers package isn't offered on two-day cruises.
If you're looking for a Carnival Cheers promo code for a drink package discount or a free drink package deal, these offers aren't widely available. Carnival might send out targeted offers to certain members of its VIFP Club loyalty program and casino guests based on their travel and spending history with the cruise line.
To activate a pre-purchased Cheers drink package, go to the Casino Bar when you get on board. Otherwise, you can purchase the package at various bar locations on the ship. The bartender will give you a sticker to place on your Sail & Sign card so servers and bartenders know you have the package.
What's the Carnival drink package limit?
If you plan on making the most of the Carnival Cheers package, you'll find a generous drink limit of 15 alcoholic beverages per day (and a value limit of $20 per alcoholic drink, as we mentioned earlier).
That's 15 alcoholic drinks per 24-hour period running from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, so late-night partiers can't take advantage of bonus drinks after the clock strikes midnight. If anyone looks like they're drinking beyond their personal limits — even if they haven't reached 15 — staff members are trained not to serve guests who look intoxicated.
The package does not place a daily limit on sodas and other nonalcoholic beverages.
Drinks must be ordered one at a time (whether alcoholic or not), with a wait time of five minutes between drink orders. Carnival sets these rules to prevent you from ordering drinks for cruisers who haven't purchased a drink package. So what happens when you want to order a round of drinks for friends? The first drink will count toward your Cheers package limit, and the rest will be charged to your account.
Is the Carnival Cheers package worth it?
Whether the drink package is worth it on Carnival depends on how much alcohol you plan to drink — and which kind. Are you more of a beer drinker, or are you into wine, spirits and cocktails? Beer is generally cheaper, so it would take more drinks per day to add up to the daily value of the Cheers package.
If you have multiple sea days during your sailing, you'll likely get more value from your package since there's more time on board to drink. Otherwise, on port days, you'll need to get your drinks in at breakfast, dinner and late-night bar-hopping.
Related: The best cruise booking perks — and which ones are actually free
Based on the starting price of drinks on board, you can get your money's worth by drinking roughly six cocktails, eight glasses of wine or 10 beers each day — and that doesn't include the water bottles, specialty coffees or sodas you'd surely order, too.
Most people mix it up, but you can do the math to see how your likely drink orders will stack up. Here are the starting prices for drinks on board, according to Carnival:
- Beer: starting at $6.50 (mostly 16 ounces)
- Wine by the glass: starting at $9.50
- Mixed drinks: $7.50 to $20
- Specialty cocktails: starting at $10.50 (excluding souvenir glassware and premium selections)
- Soft drinks: $2.75
- Specialty coffee: $2.50 to $4.25
- Energy drinks: $4.95
- Water (San Benedetto bottled water and coconut water): $1.50 to $5
In other words, you'll save money if you and the other adults in your cabin plan to drink your fair share of alcoholic beverages every day. If you're a moderate drinker — who'd order three or four alcoholic drinks and a handful of nonalcoholic beverages in a day — or if you drink but your cabinmate doesn't, it's probably not worth getting the beverage package.
Even if you're a caffeine fiend who drinks coffee and soda all day, it's hard to recoup the costs of the Carnival Cheers package on nonalcoholic beverages alone.
If you're under 21 or don't drink alcohol, you might want to consider the Bottomless Bubbles package for soft drinks. Carnival's all-inclusive soda program covers all soft drinks and juices and costs $6.95 per day for children and $9.50 per day for adults (plus the 18% service charge). It doesn't include other nonalcoholic beverages, such as bottled water and specialty coffee; drinks ordered through room service and the minibar also are not included.
There's another way to think about the value of the Cheers package. Some people are looking for the unquantifiable peace of mind that comes with not worrying about drink costs adding up at every turn. If that's you, creating a more all-inclusive experience on board might justify the cost of the package, even if you don't break even with drink prices.
What are other ways to get free or cheap drinks on Carnival?
If you've decided the Carnival Cheers package isn't worth the cost, you might still want some tips on scoring free or cheaper drinks during your cruise. Here are our top tips for drinking for less on a Carnival cruise ship.
- Hit the casino. You can get free drinks if you spend enough time playing in the casino. Once you earn enough casino points in Carnival's players club, you can order cocktails, beer, wine and even sodas for free while you're gaming.
- Dine in a specialty restaurant on night one. You can get a free or half-price bottle of wine at some of Carnival's signature restaurants if you make a reservation for the first night. The cruise line offers one bottle of complimentary house wine per two guests at any onboard steakhouse, Rudi's Seagrill, Il Viaggio, JiJi Asian Kitchen and Cucina del Capitano (except Cucina on Excel-class ships). On both the first and second nights, guests can also receive a 50% discount on wines listed under $100 at all steakhouses, Rudi's Seagrill and Il Viaggio.
- Head to an art auction. Even if you don't consider yourself an art collector, you can walk away from Carnival's art auctions with something else: free Champagne. Check the schedule of onboard activities to find out when the auctions are taking place during your sailing and sip on complimentary bubbly while you watch art aficionados bid on the gallery's artworks. (Drink responsibly, though, so you don't end up bidding on art you never meant to purchase and bring home.)
- Use a coffee punch card. Another place where Carnival rewards passengers with free drinks is the JavaBlue coffee shop. Grab a punch card on your first day, and once you've ordered six specialty coffees or milkshakes, you get one free. As someone who's sailed Carnival often with family members who have coffee running through their veins 24/7, we've found these coffee punch cards to be a nice bonus. Just remember to present the card for a punch with every order, and you can get through six punches pretty quickly if you're ordering multiple coffees or shakes as a group.

There are also a few ways to bring your own drinks on board Carnival for free. Every guest age 21 or over is allowed to bring one 750-milliliter bottle of wine or Champagne in their carry-on on embarkation day. There's a corkage fee of $15 per bottle if you drink it in the main dining room, specialty restaurants or bars, which is why we like to bring Champagne and pop open the bottle in our room for sail away. (Just don't forget to pack a corkscrew!)
Don't think you can get away with buying duty-free alcohol on the ship or at a port and drinking it on board, though. The ship will hold any duty-free purchases for you until disembarkation day.

You can also bring up to a 12-pack of nonalcoholic beverages in 12-ounce cans or cartons. Acceptable beverages include soda, sparkling water, energy drinks, juice and milk.
Bottled waters and soft drinks cannot be brought on board, but you can preorder water bottles to your room through the Carnival website and have them delivered to your stateroom on embarkation day. A 12-pack of standard water bottles (16.9 ounces) costs $9.95 plus an 18% delivery fee, an eight-pack of large 1.5-liter bottled water costs $20 plus the delivery fee and single 1.5-liter water bottles cost $3.95 each plus delivery.
Bottom line
If you and your cabinmates (this is key) are ready to drink it up on your Carnival cruise — and our bet is you are if you're reading this story — the Carnival Cheers drink package could save you money by capping your daily beverage spend at $64.95 per person, per day (plus gratuity). Use Carnival's average drink prices listed above to calculate your expected cost of drinks each day and see if it would come out to more than the price of the package.
But if you're more of a moderate drinker who can't see yourself partaking in more than five alcoholic drinks per day (or if your cabinmate won't be drinking), skip the drink package on your next sailing and consider other ways to save instead, like bringing your own wine bottles or soft drinks on board and taking advantage of free drinks wherever Carnival offers them.

Carnival Cruise Line Drink Packages: The Ultimate Guide (2023)
By: Author Carrie Ann Karstunen
Posted on Published: July 3, 2020 - Last updated: August 15, 2023
Mainstream cruise lines, including Carnival , don’t offer many complimentary drink options on the ship. So for many cruisers, the bar bill ends up being a large portion of their vacation budget. If you’re cruising on Carnival, a Carnival Cruise Line drink package lets you pre-plan your drink budget so you’re not hit with a huge bar tab at the end of your cruise!
Carnival offers drink packages for all ages, at various price points. But is a Carnival beverage package worth it? I’ll help you decide if you should buy one and which drink package is right for you .
Carnival last updated its beverage package pricing in May 2022, and also made some small changes to the program in 2023. I’ll explain what each package currently includes and how much it will cost for your cruise.
Carnival Cruise Line drink packages available for 2023 and beyond
Although Carnival offers a small selection of complimentary beverages around the clock (tap water, non-specialty coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, lemonade or juice drinks, and iced tea), you might want to expand your drink options without having to pay each time you order.
Unlike some cruise lines that offer a wide range of drink packages, Carnival makes their prepaid beverage packages simple. There are only two options: one for soft drinks only, and one for both alcohol and soft drinks.
Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles
Bottomless Bubbles is Carnival’s prepaid soda package, available for both children and adults. This option includes all-you-can-drink fountain soda, sparkling water, and fruit juices.
The cost for Bottomless Bubbles is $6.95 per day for children under 18, and $9.50 per day for adults age 18 and up. An 18% gratuity is added to the price at the time of package purchase.
Back in January 2020, Carnival began the switch from serving Coke products to Pepsi products. Today, all of Carnival’s fleet exclusively serves Pepsi products.
Tip: If you’re a die-hard Coke fan, you can always carry on a limited amount of your favorite Coke products in cans. Learn more in How to Bring Your Own Drinks on a Cruise .
Carnival’s Pepsi lineup is as follows:
- Pepsi Zero Sugar
- Caffeine Free Pepsi
- Diet Pepsi Caffeine Free
- Sierra Mist
- Sierra Mist Zero Sugar
- Mug Root Beer
- Mountain Dew
- Diet Mountain Dew
- Bubly Sparkling Water (Lime, Grapefruit, or Orange)
Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper are also usually added to the list for cruises departing the ports of Galveston and New Orleans.
Tip: You can also buy a reusable Carnival soft drink tumbler for $5.95 with Bottomless Bubbles ($9.95 without the program). Consider waiting to buy your soft drink tumbler once the ship is in international waters to avoid paying sales tax at the embarkation port.
Fruit juice options include:
- Orange Juice
- Cranberry Juice
- Tomato Juice
- Pineapple Juice
- Grapefruit Juice
For a 7-day cruise, Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles drink package would cost $57.41 for a child and $78.47 for an adult, including gratuities.
Note: Bottomless Bubbles is not always available on European itineraries.
Carnival’s CHEERS! Beverage Program
CHEERS! is Carnival Cruise Line’s all-inclusive beverage package. Available for guests age 21 and over, CHEERS! includes a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, mocktails, and an expanded range of non-alcoholic drinks compared to Bottomless Bubbles.
The cost for CHEERS! when you pre-purchase before your cruise is $59.95 per person, per day, plus an 18% gratuity.
If you purchase CHEERS! on board, the cost is $64.95 per person, per day, plus an 18% gratuity.
Carnival’s CHEERS! package includes:
- All cocktails, spirits, and beer and wine by the glass with a menu price of $20.00 or lower
- Soda, mocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffees and teas, 500ml bottled water, and other non-alcoholic bottled beverages
- Self-service beer stations
- Large bottles of water in the dining rooms and specialty restaurants
CHEERS! also includes all soft drinks in the Bottomless Bubbles package plus:
- Pure Leaf Unsweetened Black Tea
- Pure Leaf Sweet Tea
- Gatorade (Lemon-Lime or Fruit Punch)
- Propel (Berry, Grape, or Kiwi Strawberry)
- Starbucks Frappuccino
- Starbucks Double Shot Espresso
Guests with the CHEERS! package also are eligible for a 25% discount off spirits or wine by the glass above $20.00, wine and champagne by the bottle, and beverage seminars and classes.
For a 7-day cruise, Carnival’s CHEERS! drink package would cost $495.19 if you pre-purchase it, and $536.49 if you buy it on board (I’ve included gratuities in this calculation.)
FAQ about Carnival Cruise Line drink packages
If you’ve never cruised with Carnival before, or it’s been a while since your last cruise, you probably have some general questions about how the Carnival Cruise Line drink packages work.
I’ll answer the most common ones here. If you have a question that I haven’t answered, just drop it in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer it.
Do you need to tip for drinks purchased with a Carnival beverage package?
All Carnival drink packages have an extra 18% gratuity on top of the list price. So, you won’t need to tip your bartender or server each time you order a drink with your beverage package – you’ve already pre-paid your tips.
However, you can always add an extra tip for your favorite bartenders, if you choose.
Do you need to pay tax on your drinks?
When you’re out at sea in international waters, you don’t need to worry about paying tax on any of your drinks. But when you’re in port, some local authorities require cruise lines to collect tax on the menu price of any beverages you buy.
Taxes will be charged to your on board account if you buy drinks one-by-one or use a beverage package.
The tax percentage varies by port, but it’s never a huge amount—generally somewhere between 5-10% of the cost of each drink. If a jurisdiction charges tax, it will be charged on each drink when the ship is in port and in its territorial waters.
Do Carnival drink packages work on their private islands?
Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles and CHEERS! packages can’t be used to order beverages on the private islands of Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays .
How old do you have to be to buy an alcoholic beverage package on Carnival?
You must be age 21 or over to purchase or use the CHEERS! package on all Carnival cruises, regardless of the legal drinking age at any ports you might visit.
For those turning 21 during the cruise, you’ll be able to purchase alcohol à la carte with a valid ID starting on your birthday. You won’t be able to purchase a CHEERS! package in the middle of the cruise.
Can you share your Carnival beverage package with another guest?
Carnival issues a sticker for each guest that purchases a beverage package, and the sticker goes on your Sail & Sign card. Only one beverage per sticker will be served at a time.
Carnival (like most other cruise lines today) requires that if one person buys the CHEERS! package, every person 21 and older in the same stateroom must also purchase the package. Cruise lines have implemented this policy to crack down on beverage package sharing.
Many cruise lines will waive this requirement if you don’t drink because of pregnancy, a medical condition, religious beliefs, or if you’re in recovery from substance use disorder. However, Carnival is known to be very strict with this policy. You can try reaching out to Carnival to ask for an exemption, but it’s not very likely that they’ll budge.
How do you buy a Carnival Cruise Line drink package?
Before your cruise, you can pre-purchase Bottomless Bubbles or CHEERS! online at www.carnival.com/Funshops or by calling (800) 522-7648. The cut-off time for online pre-purchase is 11:59 PM EST the day before embarkation. The call center closes at 9:00 PM EST, so their cut-off time is a bit earlier.
Both packages will also be available for purchase on the ship on embarkation day and the first full cruise day. You can get Bottomless Bubbles at the lobby, casino, and pool bars.
Tables will be set up around the ship on embarkation day and the next day where you can buy the CHEERS! package.
Can you buy a Carnival drink package for certain days of the cruise?
It would be nice to pick and choose which days you have a drink package (like sea days only, please!), but once you buy a package you need to buy it for each remaining day of your cruise. Take this into consideration if you have a lot of longer shore excursions when you won’t be on the ship to use the package.
In order to minimize your costs, consider waiting until the second day of your cruise to buy a beverage package. You’ll just need to pay for any drinks you consume on embarkation day.
But, remember that you save 10% if you pre-order the CHEERS! package before your cruise. Do the math to see which option saves more money for your situation.
Does Carnival ever offer a free drink package?
Outside of comped cruises through the casino, I’ve never seen Carnival offer a free beverage package as a perk for booking a cruise. That’s not to say it will never happen, but it’s pretty unlikely. Carnival’s business model is to keep prices low, and for guests to pay for any extras on an à la carte basis.
If you’re looking for a low-priced cruise line that offers free drink packages very consistently, Norwegian is your best bet. Or, if your budget is a bit higher, consider an all-inclusive cruise.
How much are drinks on a Carnival cruise if you buy them individually?
If you’re considering buying a drink package for your first Carnival cruise, you’re probably wondering what the menu prices are if you buy drinks individually.
Here are typical menu prices for a variety of drinks on Carnival:
- Beer: $6 – $8 per glass
- Wine $8 – $14 per glass
- Mixed drinks: $7 – $20
- Soft drinks: $2.50
- Specialty soft drinks: $2 – $5
- Bottled water: $1.25 – $5
Is there a limit to how many drinks you can get per day with a Carnival beverage package?
You’re allowed to drink an unlimited amount of non-alcoholic drinks with both Bottomless Bubbles and the CHEERS! package. (You do need to wait five minutes between drink orders, except if you’re ordering bottled water along with your drink.)
However, you can only have 15 alcoholic drinks per day. That sounds like a lot, but lots of cruisers can (and do!) reach that cap. Bartenders and servers track drink orders on their POS system, so you can always ask how many drinks you’re up to if you lose track!
Once you hit the 15 drinks, you’re not allowed to order more alcohol, even if you try to pay out of pocket. The 24-hour period resets every morning at 6 AM.
Are there any restrictions on where you can use a Carnival drink package?
You can use your Carnival drink package for onboard purchases only. When you’re in port, you can’t use the package off the ship, even on a Carnival-sponsored shore excursion.
Carnival Cruise Line drink packages also don’t apply to drinks ordered through room service or the Interactive TV system, or for beverages from your stateroom’s minibar.
The CHEERS! package also can’t be used for the following alcoholic drinks:
- Drinks in souvenir glasses (but you can ask for the same drink in a regular glass)
- Bottles of liquor
- Drinks offered at the gangway
- Cocktails meant for sharing
- Floaters, pitchers, tubes, or buckets
- Wines from the enomatic wine machines
If your cruise departs from Galveston or New York, the CHEERS! package doesn’t go into effect until 6 AM on the second day of the sailing.
Is it worth it to get a drink package on a Carnival cruise?
When deciding if it’s worth it to buy a drink package on Carnival, it all depends on how much you think you’ll be drinking. If you’re sure you’ll only have a couple of drinks each day, it’s a far better deal to just pay as you go.
For the average cruiser, five alcoholic drinks per day is about where the break-even point is for the CHEERS! package. If you like to drink higher-end wines or spirits, your break-even point could be lower. Remember, the package includes drinks that normally cost up to $20 each!
Your soft drinks, bottled water, and specialty coffees are also included, so factor those costs into your decision as well. Those little purchases can add up over the length of your cruise.
But if you have a cabin-mate who doesn’t drink much, it might not be worth having to buy an expensive package for someone who won’t get their money’s worth.
If you’re a soda drinker, Bottomless Bubbles can be a money-saver. Know you’ll have at least three soft drinks each day? Then it really makes sense to buy this package.

Thank you for a very informative article. Just wondering how Cheers compares to pre-purchasing and having a liter (or two) delivered to the cabin. Also, where could I find a list of higher end spirits available?
Friday 4th of September 2020
Hi Sean, great question! It's definitely cheaper to pre-purchase a bottle, especially if you're drinking basic mixed drinks with one shot and a mixer. If a liter of liquor has 22 shots, and it costs $50-100 per bottle, you can definitely save money. I've never gone this route myself, because I don't spend much time in the stateroom and it's way more convenient to grab a drink from a bar. (You could make yourself a drink in your room and walk around the ship with it, but you'd have to go back to the room each time.) For a list of spirits that Carnival offers, go to https://www.carnival.com/in-room-food-beverages and click on "liquor" on the left. Happy cruising!

Hi Great article and some really good tips but I did read somewhere drinks packages are not available in Europe - Is that correct?
Hi Ally, I'm so glad you liked the tips! I reached out to Carnival just to make sure that nothing has changed. They told me that yes, the Cheers! package is available on European itineraries. I believe that at one point the package couldn't be sold in Europe, so you may have read an article somewhere with that older information. Happy cruising!

I had never heard of this drink package. Sounds like a great deal to chill and relax with a cocktail on hand!!!
Saturday 1st of August 2020
Jen, it definitely is! Most cruise lines also sell a similar package (Disney Cruise Line is one of the majors that doesn't). Also, many luxury cruise lines include cocktails, wine and beer in the cruise fare. (My post Which Cruise Lines Are All-Inclusive? covers which luxury lines do and don't include alcohol.) Packages are a great way to save some money and remove the stress of a bar bill at the end of your vacation.

How much are drinks on Carnival cruise (drink prices)
Carnival alcohol and mixed drink prices on cruises are considered "moderate" for moderate drinking only. And the opinion of common folks is these prices do not contain much of the onboard fun. Still, they are pretty decent compared to other major cruise lines. Additional info and tips:
- the service charge for opening a personal bottle of wine not bought on the premises (Carnival corkage fee) is $10 per bottle (if the wine is consumed in one of the main dining restaurants) and $14 if consumed in a specialty restaurant. All beverage prices include the 15% gratuity. However, Carnival's drink gratuity was increased to 18% (since December 2018).
- check regularly the "Drinks of the Day" page (the ship's "Fun Times" newspaper) for daily discounted beverages. The "Early Bird Specials" (alcoholic beverages ordered before noon) are at pretty special prices. A "Bloody Mary" is only $3,95 - but only from 9 till 11am.
- The list of Carnival free alcohol offers includes the Captain's cocktail party, the farewell party, art auctions, Past Guest receptions and free alcohol testing at the onboard duty-free shops (usually on the first day).
Note: All cruise drinks prices are in USD (dollars), tips-inclusive. Also listed is the cost of non-alcoholic beverages and mixed drinks from the "Blue Iguana" and "RedFrog" bar menus.
Bottled WATER prices

Carnival cruise beer prices.
The new "Thirsty Red Frog" ale is offered in 3 sizes: pint (20oz), pitcher (60oz) and beer tubes (101oz) - see below for the prices. It's a private-label freshly onboard-brewed draft beer (brewed by Budweiser) available only on CCL ships.
Originally brewed exclusively for the RedFrog Pub, the "frog-beer" is now served in select ship bars/lounges and it has a taste similar to Killian's Red. As to The Red Frog Pub, the 100-seat indoor/outdoor bar is on the newest liners and also on all Fun Ship 2.0 upgraded ships . Along with Thirsty Red Frog, the pub serves top-rated Caribbean rums and a "best beers Caribbean" collection. Next, are listed Carnival's Draft Beers prices:
- $5,50 (16oz) and $28,95 (tube of 101oz) for the beers "Modelo Especial", "Dos Equis", "Presidente", "FROG'S PINT" (20oz)
- Thirsty Red Frog beer price is: $5,50 (20oz), $16,95 (60oz), $27,95 (101oz).
Draft beers on Carnival cruise ships
In May 2017 was introduced a tropical-flavored draft beer via a partnership with the Miami-based Concrete Beach Brewery. The special beer is served exclusively at the "RedFrog Pub & Brewery" on Carnival Vista - the first brewery found on a North America-based cruise liner. The new "Miami Guava Wheat Beer" was hand-crafted by Colin Presby (brewmaster on the shipboard brewery) and made with the best ingredients.
- Miami Guava beer has a light body and its primary ingredient is pink guava, also used in Miami's popular guava pastries. The new beer is available on a limited basis, and joins the 3 other original draft beers brewed on the Carnival Vista ship - ThirstyFrog Port Hoppin' IPA (floral flavor, with passion fruit and citrus overtones), ThirstyFrog Caribbean Wheat (unfiltered lager with banana aroma and spices) and FriskyFrog Java Stout (with hints of coffee).
- Concrete Beach Brewery is an "Alchemy & Science" beer brand, operating as an independent subsidiary of "The Boston Beer Company". Other "Alchemy & Science" breweries in the USA include Angel City Brewery (Los Angeles) and Coney Island Brewing Co (Brooklyn, NYC New York). Their most popular draft beers are named "Tropic of Passion" (Miami), Angel City IPA (LA), and Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner (NYC).
- US-homeported Carnival ships serve the Concrete Beach Brewery's Rica Wheat IPA, Angel City Brewery's Pilsner, Coney Island's Hard Root Beer, and 1609 Amber. On a regional basis, Carnival ships leaving from Miami offer Concrete Beach Brewery's Stiltsville Pilsner, ships from Long Beach (Los Angeles) offer Angel City Brewery IPA, and ships departing from NYC offer Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner.
- Carnival Cruise Line also offers draft beers brewed either locally (in homeports) or within the homeport state. Such beers are offered on cruise ships leaving from NOLA New Orleans, Galveston TX, Baltimore MD, and Tampa FL, as well as on ships to Alaska and Hawaii.
In October 2019, Carnival introduced fleetwide the seasonal brew "ParchedPig Pumpkin Ale" (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, gingerbread, herbs, caramel, brown sugar). The beer is offered in both bottles (22-oz) and on draft, and in 3 variations - West Coast IPA, Toasted Amber, and Beach Lager.

- The Carnival's "Martini Tasting" deal will cost you $17 per person.
- The list of all favorite martinis with Finlandia Vodka in your booze fun package/tour includes: "Berry Melody", "Mangotini", "Florida Squeeze", "Spicy Chipote", "Pomegranate Breeze", "Jack Julep", "Melon Crush" and the "Classic Cosmo" (for their exact ingredients - see the recipes link below).
- Martini Tasting is available fleet-wide, but depending on ship/itinerary they offer it from twice a cruise to every night. To be sure when and where - check the "FunTimes" (onboard newspaper), it should be listed there.
Carnival Fun Shops liquor prices (alcohol, beer, drink packages)
Bon Voyage is open for business from Monday through Friday (9 AM to 6 PM EST) and closed on Memorial-Independence-Labor days, Thanksgiving, Christmas-New Years days.
- Bon Voyage/Fun Shop orders are accepted up to 1-week prior to departure.
- If an item is not available at the sailing time, an item of equal value will be substituted.
- Fun Shop purchases will not show up on your booking info (meant to be a surprise after all). Carnival sends confirmation emails. If you didn't receive the email (sometimes it just happens) - send a request for confirmation.
- All prices below are per bottle and don't include tax.
- Alcohol brands are occasionally changed.
- Tips: Fresh lemon and lime you can order via 24-hour room service (complimentary). If you buy souvenir glass, you can mix your "Bon Voyage" drinks in it and carry them wherever you want on the ship.
Fun Shop drink packages (beer, soda, bottled water, juices/mixers, energy drinks)
Tip: Fun Shops water cost is pretty high. Instead, you can buy a gallon (3,8 L) of distilled water from your cabin steward for US$3. Or use for free tap water on the boat - it is perfectly fine for drinking.
Carnival Bon Voyage alcohol policy rules
- Any alcohol purchased through Fun Shops is delivered to staterooms (not to dining room tables).
- If you buy wine through Bon Voyage, you don't pay a corkage fee.
- There's a limit of max 2 bottles per cabin when ordering liquor (until recently it was 4 btls).
- In the above list if you don't see something be sure to call/ask.
- Due to Alabama and Texas alcohol laws, Carnival ships departing from Mobile AL and Galveston TX can't deliver alcoholic drinks to staterooms until the ship is in international waters (delivery may even be delayed until the following day).
Bon Voyage/Fun Shops prices updates
In January 2018, Carnival added a 15% delivery fee to any items pre-purchased from Fun Shops (prior departure). However, it doesn't apply to all purchases. The list of not charged items include packages ( Bottomless Bubbles , Cheers , Cruise Cash , Internet, water packages). The new delivery fee doesn't apply also to any liquor packages bought onboard with intent to carry home at the end of the voyage. The charge is added when, after having made Fun Shops selections, passengers make an actual purchase.
Carnival regularly makes "price corrections" on its Bon Voyage/Fun Shop liquor. While 12-year scotch from $75 now is $80, it's still way cheaper than $7-8 a drink at ship's bars.
- In March 2013, CCL renamed its retail section from "Bon Voyage" to "The Fun Shops". Along with the name, they changed prices as well.
- On most items prices were increased from 20 to 40%. Some of the "most expensive" examples are 9" BV Cakes ($9,95 to $14), "Fruit Supreme" basket ($39 to $50), and most of the liquor (up by 10-15% on average).
- In June 2013, liquor prices were souring up again - the most "extravagant" cases showed up to a 25% increase.
- Carnival Bon Voyage liquor prices are in US dollars, both per bottle and per glass (1,5 fl oz, 45 ml). The list of services (besides ordering liquor and fine wines) also includes special offers and various Carnival branded merchandise.
- Fun Shop alcohol prices are about 2-3 times higher compared to your local liquor store. However, the savings you'll make onboard with this option make them well worth the purchase. While these prices may somehow seem a little bit over the edge, this service is a very convenient option to start your vacation.
- Bon Voyage alcohol ordering saves good money. Most liquor brands are in 33,8 fl oz (1L) bottles, which makes these "alcohol packages" great deals.
- And remember, the limit is 2 bottles per cabin.
Carnival Cruise Lines alcohol policy
The company's alcohol policy is mostly about bringing wine on Carnival ships . The allowance is one 750ml bottle of wine/Champagne per 21+yo passenger, only once (on embarkation day) and only in carry-on luggage.
Bringing alcohol on Carnival ships
Follows the list of "not allowed" alcohol-related rules.
- selling/serving alcohol to passengers under 21 yo. Carnival reserves the right to refuse to sell alcohol to anyone.
- buying alcohol for under-aged passengers
- The legal drinking age on Carnival ships is 21 years of age - both for purchasing and consumption of alcoholic beverages at all bars-lounges-shops.
- purchasing alcohol in seaports and onboard (duty-free) shops - your liquor is retained and stored until the end of the voyage.
- Carnival's corkage fee (additional wine/Champagne serving charge when the wine wasn't bought on the premises) is $10 per bottle (if consumed in Main Dining Room) and $14 per bottle (specialty restaurants / at a fee).
- "All you can drink" cruise deals are offered also on ship-charters and as a bonus on party-themed cruises .
- Free alcohol on Carnival ships is offered at Captain's Welcome and Farewell cocktail parties, Past Guests receptions, art auctions, alcohol testings (at duty-free shops, usually on the first day), Steakhouse reservations (free wine on first-night promotions).
Carnival beverage policy
Carnival's alcohol and beverage policy rules were implemented (as officially stated) "to control the liquor consumption of minors and the quantities consumed that lead to the disruptive behavior of others on board" - meaning to avoid shenanigans at sea.
Bringing water/soda on Carnival cruises
According to the old beverage policy:
- the allowance was max 12 bottles/cans (max 20oz each, sealed) of non-alcoholic beverages (soft drinks, bottled water, juice, milk, iced tea, etc.
- It allowed bringing soda on Carnival ships, but - only in carry-on luggage, in original and sealed containers (meaning not opened) and on each embarkation.
- "Each embarkation" meant you can do so at each port of call. It was an unwritten rule and one of the coolest "tips and tricks"). However, purchasing sodas at call ports is rather expensive.
(NEW) Carnival drink policy changes
Starting July 9, 2015, Carnival Cruise Lines changed radically its beverage policy, implementing new rules on bringing water on Carnival ships. Signs with beverage policy changes were posted at all homeports.
- Passengers are no longer allowed to bring their own bottled drinks on the ships. The main goal (as officially announced) is to lower the number of attempts by customers to smuggle alcohol using PVC bottles. Checking PVC bottles for liquor smuggling slows down the embarkation process, as security staff checks each bottle.
- Passengers are allowed to bring max 12 unopened cans (volume 12-oz) or cartons per person. The list of canned drinks includes soda, juices, milk, sparkling water - stored in carry-on luggage.
- Large coolers are not allowed, but you can take small coolers (max size 12x12x12 inches, or 30x30x30 cm) as carry-on luggage. These are used for non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications.
Since October 2015, in all call ports, Carnival passengers are allowed to bring nonalcoholic drinks on the ship. The allowance is only if the drinks are canned (or in cartons 12 ounces / 0,35 L or less). The enforced limit per person is 12 cans/cartons. Previously, the allowance for boarding the ship with beverages was for homeports only. The new rule didn't affect the ban on bottled beverages (enforced in July).
Carnival's wine policy remained unchanged, allowing passengers to bring 1 bottle of wine/champagne per person (750 ml, unopened, in carry-on luggage). No other liquor is allowed on board. Also unchanged is the rule about bringing distilled water onboard, excluding only passengers who need it for babies or CPAP machines ("continuous positive airway pressure").
(NEW) Bottled water prices
Carnival Cruise Line's bottled water prices were USD 2,99 (plus tax) for a 12-pack. The pricing is if you buy it before the voyage. The pack will be delivered to your cabin before departure. Onboard water price was USD 4.99 (plus tax).
However, In March 2016, bottled water prices were raised by over 30%. The price for 12-pack of water was USD 3.99, (up from USD 2.99, or 33 cents per 17-oz bottle). In December 2016, Carnival raised water prices again. The current bottled water price for 12-pack (16,9 fluid oz bottles) is USD 4.50 (plus 18% gratuity if ordered onboard) or over 10% increase.
Sneaking alcohol on Carnival cruise
This is a "cruise alcohol policy" of "cheap fun" people - read why some do it anyway. With Carnival, besides the thrill of sneaking something (alcohol or whatever), most smugglers do it because ships' alcohol prices are not cheap. Even if you order liquor through Fun Shops (prior departure) it's 2-3 times more expensive than in your local store. Some do it simply because Carnival doesn't supply their favorite brand.
The Fun Shops service allows pre-purchasing liquor to be delivered to staterooms the second day of the voyage. Online purchases' deadline is 1-week prior departure. Two useful "bringing alcohol on ships" tips:
- If you purchase your alcohol from Fun Shops, you're allowed to put your booze in a stainless steel flask (or Carnival tumbler) and carry it around the ship. Be sure not to take it with you while disembarking in ports. If security personnel find it, they will confiscate the flask when you re-board the ship. Of course, only if there's alcohol in it.
- Pack your empty flask in the carry-on bag. If you pack it in checked baggage, you'll most probably get called to the "naughty guys room" to open luggage for inspection.
How to smuggle alcohol on Carnival cruises?
This is the smuggler's know-how for sneaking alcohol on cruise ships in general. The question of how to smuggle alcohol on ships is one of the industry's oldest. Smuggling alcohol is against cruise lines policy rules. This practice is forbidden, illegal, emotionally dangerous - don't do it! Ship's personnel check passengers' luggage - if you get caught, the hooch will be confiscated (basically that's all).
- The confiscated bottle(s)/cans are stored for safekeeping until the morning of the voyage's last day). The "illegal" beverages (liquor/water/soda/wine) must be in original, manufacturer-sealed containers - other containers won't be returned. All unsealed liquids are discarded, without any compensation.
- "Rum Runner flask" (costs around $10) has the best chance to go through security checks. These flasks are usually smuggled in checked baggage and are almost undetectable. However, if the security checks your bags for another reason and sees them, flasks will be taken and not returned.
- "Wine Rack" is the latest booze-smuggling device. This boob enhancing, alcohol-filled bra contains over 25oz/750ml of your chosen liquid. They are absolutely right by saying this is way better than a regular boob job, and way cheaper too. Women look beautiful and save money on overpriced cruise drinks. The sneaking alcohol tool price is only US$30. The same price is the "BeerBelly" (capacity up to 80oz/2,4L).
- Adults with a record of sneaking alcohol on Carnival ships, adults buying liquor for underage passengers and adults with other regular violations of the company's beverage policy may end up even with "early" (no-compensation) disembarkation or get banned for life.

Cruise Comparison: Beverage Variety Across Other Cruise Lines
Traveling aboard a luxurious cruise line often comes with the decision of selecting a beverage package. While Carnival Cruise Line offers a range of drink options, understanding how it measures up against other industry giants like Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Viking is essential for travelers looking for value.
Celebrity Cruises provides passengers with a tiered approach. The Classic Package, priced at $89 per day, is comprehensive, catering to casual drinkers with beverages up to $10 per serving. For a higher tier, the Premium Package at $109 per day offers top-shelf brands and a 20% discount on bottled wines. Those avoiding alcohol have the Zero-Proof Package, focusing purely on non-alcoholic beverages at $30 daily.
On the other hand, Holland America Line’s Signature and Elite packages are priced more competitively at $54.95 and $59.99 per day respectively. The modest difference between the two packages in price and beverage options means travelers can enjoy higher-tier drinks without significantly stretching their budget. The Quench and Coca-Cola packages serve the non-alcoholic crowd, with the former offering a range of drinks and the latter focusing on fountain sodas.
Princess Cruises uniquely blends its beverage offerings with other perks. The Princess Plus Program at $60 daily not only includes a variety of drinks but also offers bonuses like Wi-Fi and prepaid gratuities. The Premier Package, priced at $80, builds upon this with added luxuries, ensuring travelers not only quench their thirst but also indulge in a richer cruising experience.
Royal Caribbean stands out with its dynamic pricing for the Deluxe Beverage Package, averaging $84 daily. It’s a comprehensive package catering to various drink preferences. Those not inclined towards alcoholic beverages can opt for the Refreshment Package at $34 or the Classic Soda Package, which comes with a refillable souvenir cup, for $13.50 daily.
Lastly, Viking’s singular Silver Spirits Beverage Package is a steal at $19.95 daily, offering premium drinks with generous discounts on premium beverages and tasting events. It’s a simple, all-encompassing option without the tiers, making decision-making straightforward for travelers.
When comparing these cruise lines, several considerations come into play. The value derived from a package largely depends on individual drinking habits. Light drinkers might find individual purchases more economical, while regular drinkers can extract more value from comprehensive packages. It’s also noteworthy that many of these packages cater to non-alcoholic preferences, ensuring that all travelers can find a package that suits their tastes.

Cruise drink packages: A line-by-line guide
I t's easy to run up a monster bill ordering wine, beer and mixed drinks by the glass on a cruise ship. The cost of alcoholic drinks on cruise vessels — particularly cocktails — can be pricey. But for those who regularly order several alcoholic drinks a day when cruising, there's a way to save: a flat-fee drink package.
Nearly all the major mass-market cruise lines offer flat-fee drink packages that, in some cases, can save you money when cruising. The exceptions are Disney Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages , though both offer alternative ways to save on beverage purchases.
What's included in a cruise ship drink package, and how do they work? And, perhaps more to the point, how much do cruise drink packages cost? Read on for the answers in this ultimate guide to cruise drink packages.

What is a drink package on a cruise ship?
Cruise ship drink packages let you order as many drinks as you want while on a cruise for one flat fee. This takes the place of paying for drinks one at a time.
At some lines, there are several tiers of drink packages. Basic tiers often include just sodas and bottled water. More elaborate (and expensive) tiers will add alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, wine, beer and specialty coffee drinks. In some cases, there will be more than one tier of such all-encompassing plans.
Some lines also offer coffee cards that let you get a fixed number of fancy coffee drinks at a shipboard coffee bar for a discounted price. Some also offer wine-specific packages.
How much do alcoholic drink packages cost on cruise ships?
The cost of cruise ship drink packages varies widely by line. At several of the biggest cruise brands, including Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America , the main drink packages that include all types of drinks cost about $60 per person per day. Other brands, such as Norwegian Cruise Line , charge as much as $138 per person per day for a top-tier package.
Drink packages that don't include alcoholic drinks, such as soda packages, typically cost far less. Soda packages often are under $10 per person per day. Note that some cruise lines discount drink packages if you buy them online in advance of sailing, and others offer periodic sales on their drink packages online.

Can you buy drinks on a cruise without a drink package?
Yes. All major cruise lines will let you buy drinks on an a la carte basis when cruising. You don't need a drink package to be able to drink alcoholic beverages or any other type of beverage on a ship.
Can you share a drink package on a cruise ship?
In many cases, no. Several of the biggest cruise lines, including Carnival, Holland America and MSC Cruises, have a rule that if one adult in a cabin orders a drink package, all adults in the cabin must order the package. This is to prevent two or more people in a cabin from sharing a single drink package.
Two lines that notably don't have such a rule are Princess Cruises and Windstar Cruises . Technically, you are not supposed to use your package to buy drinks for other people.
Are drink packages on cruise ships really unlimited?
It depends. Some cruise lines, such as Carnival, limit the number of alcoholic drinks that any one person can order using a drink package to 15 in a day. That is, of course, an enormous number — more than most people will ever want to order.

Where can you use a cruise ship drink package?
Cruise ship drink packages generally are honored anywhere you can order a drink on a ship — think bars, lounges and eateries. However, you usually can't use them when ordering room service. They also generally don't apply to drinks taken out of cabin minibars. Be sure to check the fine print in your particular line's drink package before placing an order for a drink to your room.
Some cruise lines also let you use your packages when visiting their private islands .

They use Beso Del Sol red wine, pomegranate liqueur, and blackcurrant syrup.
Pina Colada
You can’t have a list of the best Carnival cruise drinks and not mention the good ol’ pina colada. This coconut tasting frozen tropical cocktail from a pool bar is often my first drink on embarkation day. It is a rum based drink that is the perfect kick off to a cruise vacation.

This is another concoction from the Alchemy bar. While drinks from the Alchemy bar are more expensive, they are high quality and delicious.
A restorative basil drop is made with Ciroc vodka, fresh basil, simple syrup, and fresh citrus .
Perfect Storm
This is found on the Alchemy bar menu. Captain Morgan spiced rum, Bacardi rum, strawberry purée, fresh lime, and a rosemary sprig complete this cocktail.

It is a great option for those who can’t drink, choose not to, or want to mix in some mocktails with regular drinks.
Mango Magic
Mango magic is a frozen beverage made with Bacardi rum, Captain Morgan spiced rum, mango and citrus.

Strawberry Daiquiri
This is a classic Carnival cruise drink that many are probably familiar with but it still deserves a mention. Bacardi rum, strawberries, simple syrup, and citrus make up this frozen cocktail.
Craft Beers
Select Carnival Cruise Line ships have a brewery on board. They offer brewery tours in addition to beer flight samples (extra cost). Give the craft Parched Pig beers a try.

Today’s Bonus Cruising Tip
I ALWAYS buy travel insurance (especially during these uncertain times) to cover my cruises, but I NEVER purchase it through Carnival . It costs more and usually covers less than policies you purchase on your own. I go through sites like travelinsurance.com to compare plans and prices and get the best deal for the coverage I want. Spend less on insurance and spend more on excursions, special onboard cruise experiences and…future cruises!
Homework: Don’t forget to order a super classy “Ship-Faced” mug and “Warning: I Bought The Drink Package” t-shirt before your next Carnival cruise.

Royal Caribbean International and Carnival Cruise Line have quite a bit in common.
Trying to choose between Royal Caribbean and Carnival for your next cruise? Check out the comparison chart below, then read on for more details.
Winner: Royal Caribbean
When it comes to fleet size as well as the features available on cruise ships, Royal Caribbean has an edge over Carnival Cruise Line. That's because Royal Caribbean already has 28 ships in operation, including its incredible Oasis Class, Quantum Class and Quantum Ultra Class ships. Oasis Class vessels like Allure of the Seas , Symphony of the Seas , Wonder of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas are some of the largest in the world – and Royal Caribbean Group is constantly rolling out new, even bigger cruise ships with better amenities and new features. For example, the new Icon of the Seas (scheduled to debut in 2024) plans to have the largest water park at sea, the largest swimming pool at sea, and a range of over-the-top cabins and suites for families of all sizes.
Meanwhile, Carnival currently operates 25 different vessels with a few more on the way. Newer ships like Carnival Celebration and Carnival Venezia aren't as large and grand as Royal Caribbean ships, nor are the brand-new vessels the company is planning for late 2023 and 2024. For example, the new Carnival Jubilee that is set to begin sailing later in 2023 will have 15 passenger decks and capacity for up to 6,631 guests, compared to 18 guest decks and 7,600 passengers on Icon of the Seas.

Comparing cabins across cruise lines as a whole isn't an easy feat, mostly because companies tend to offer larger suites and cabins with a better layout on their newer ships . You'll therefore likely have a nicer cabin on one of Carnival's newest vessels compared to an older ship from Royal Caribbean, and of course the opposite is also true. Cabin sizes and layouts also vary widely across the vessels of both brands, and that's true even for basic interior, ocean view and balcony cabins.
That said, Royal Caribbean still comes out ahead in this category, since the line boasts more square footage in some of the most basic cabins as well as more over-the-top luxury accommodations, especially for families.
As an example, most inside cabins on Allure of the Seas feature 172 square feet of space, whereas Carnival Celebration's inside cabins are slightly smaller at 158 square feet. Meanwhile, the largest suites on Celebration are the Carnival Excel Presidential Suite, with 1,120 square feet of space including the balcony, and the Carnival Excel Aft Suite, which has 861 square feet of interior and balcony space. Compare those options to the Sky Loft Suites on Allure of the Seas, which feature 1,132 square feet across the room and balcony, and the spacious two-bedroom AquaTheater Suites with 1,595 square feet including the balcony.

Food options vary widely across vessels within any cruise brand, and this is especially true with Royal Caribbean and Carnival. For example, older ships from both cruise lines offer fewer specialty dining options overall along with the main dining rooms and buffet options cruisers come to expect, whereas newer ships from both lines feature a lot more unique and innovative options.
When you view the cruise dining options from both lines, you'll quickly find that both Carnival and Royal Caribbean pull out all the stops when it comes to food. For example, Carnival ships include a range of eateries from large and expansive buffets to main dining rooms to unique offerings like Big Chicken, Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina. Meanwhile, specialty dining on Carnival vessels features options like teppanyaki, Emeril's Bistros at Sea and Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse.
Royal Caribbean ships feature convenient buffets and main dining room experiences, as well as included options like pizza kitchens, noodle bars and casual fast food. Specialty dining on Royal Caribbean ranges from the brand's Chef's Table experience to Johnny Rockets' burgers and shakes to innovative fine dining at Wonderland.
Drink packages
Both Carnival and Royal Caribbean offer drink packages that cruisers can purchase as part of their vacation to get a more all-inclusive feel . Then again, the value of these packages depends on how much you drink over the course of your trip. Also note that the cost of drink packages across all cruise lines can vary depending on the ship, itinerary, travel dates, length of trip and more.
Royal Caribbean comes out slightly ahead in this category because the line offers three tiers of drink packages for guests with different needs. Choose from the Classic Soda Package; the Refreshment Package, which includes soda along with coffees, juices and even milkshakes at Johnny Rockets; and the Deluxe Beverage Package, which adds in beer, cocktails and wine by the glass. Meanwhile, Carnival offers just two different drink packages: the Bottomless Bubbles package, which covers soft drinks and juice, and the Cheers! drink package, which adds in spirits and cocktails, beer, wine by the glass, specialty coffee, energy drinks and more.

Onboard activities
Analyzing onboard activities across cruise lines isn't always easy – you really have to break down this category by ship for a true comparison. When you do that with Carnival and Royal Caribbean, you'll find that both lines offer fun activities for all ages, from onboard water parks to hosted games, casinos and more.
That said, Royal Caribbean does take things up a notch in this category, especially on the line's newer ships. Some Royal Caribbean vessels offer escape rooms, surf simulators, zip lines, game shows and over-the-top water parks with incredible slides for thrill-seekers. For example, Freedom of the Seas boasts huge onboard waterslides, glow-in-the-dark laser tag, mini-golf and more. Don't forget about Icon of the Seas with its massive water park and pool offerings in the works. Meanwhile, standout activities on Carnival ships include Family Feud Live, onboard water parks and the thrilling SkyRide.

Live entertainment
The quality of cruise ship entertainment varies widely based on the quality of the talent booked for individual ships. Both Carnival and Royal Caribbean offer their share of live music and entertainment, including performances by bands and singers, karaoke, and piano bars. Meanwhile, both lines also boast their own theaters on every vessel, which often feature Broadway-style shows, singing and dancing, comedy acts, and more.
Royal Caribbean comes out ahead in this category since its vessels feature award-winning musicals like "Hairspray," "Mamma Mia!" and "Cats." The open-air AquaTheater on Oasis Class ships also wows guests with incredible diving feats, stunts and aerial acrobatics. Some Royal Caribbean ships even have onboard ice skating performances and ice games.

Kids programming
Courtesy of Carnival Cruise Line
Winner: Carnival
Both cruise lines have kids clubs that cater to younger guests of all ages, with each one offering supervised care so parents can drop the kids off for some alone time or a quiet dinner on the ship. However, Carnival stands out slightly in this category due to the six different clubs offered across the fleet for children and teens between 6 months and 17 years old. Carnival also offers supervised Night Owls services for kids 11 and younger, which lets parents get out and have some late-night fun for an extra charge.
Royal Caribbean offers four kids clubs for children ages six months to 12, along with a separate club for tweens and teens . Supervised child care is available for free during the day, and you can opt for paid care after hours as well.

Adults-only offerings
Both cruise lines offer their share of adults-only spaces and things to do, from onboard casinos to luxurious spas to bars that offer cocktails and live entertainment at all hours of the day and night. Carnival and Royal Caribbean also offer adults-only areas on some of their ships.
On Carnival, for example, cruisers will find the Serenity Adults-Only Retreat for sailors 21 and older with extra space and comfortable chairs for relaxation, along with its own bar nearby. On many Royal Caribbean vessels, on the other hand, the onboard Solarium for ages 16-plus has its own pool and extra space to find peace and quiet.
Carnival's Serenity relaxation area is included for guests. While Royal Caribbean's Solarium is typically also included, on certain sailings there is restricted access by fare class.

Shore excursions

Shore excursions offered by cruise lines are largely operated by third-party companies and are often the same across brands. Both Carnival and Royal Caribbean boast a broad selection of excursions in destinations around the world, from snorkeling and scuba tours in the Caribbean to city tours, horseback riding, cooking classes and more.
Both cruise lines offer private and custom tours you can book through your ship as well.

Private island experiences
Royal Caribbean and Carnival each have their own private island in the Bahamas , which is included in most itineraries to this part of the world. These private islands provide a fun beach escape for families to enjoy, whether you want to relax in the sun or take part in some of the available activities.
Royal Caribbean's private island, called Perfect Day at CocoCay, is the more impressive option due to everything it includes: a heart-thumping water park, its own wave pool, a zip line, a hot air balloon experience and overwater bungalows you can book for the day, among other offerings. Meanwhile, Carnival's Half Moon Cay has a unique beached pirate ship to explore – but fewer amenities overall.
Note that both private islands have plenty of beach space for guests to spread out and relax, as well as restaurants and bars. You can also book excursions on both private islands, which include activities like snorkeling and water sports.

Comparing costs across cruise lines can be tricky since fares and available sales vary throughout the year, as well as based on the vessel booked, the cruise itinerary, the number and age of travelers, and more. To get an idea of who wins on price, we looked for two similar cruises on comparable ships from Carnival and Royal Caribbean, then priced out an option for a family of four with two children ages 8 and 10. For the purpose of this comparison, we used seven-night eastern Caribbean cruises on Carnival Celebration and Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, both of which began sailing in 2022.
The Carnival Celebration itinerary from Miami stops in Amber Cove, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico ; and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands . By comparison, the Wonder of the Seas sailing leaves from Port Canaveral, Florida, with stops in Philipsburg, St. Maarten ; San Juan; and Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.
The chart below shows the total cost (including taxes and fees) for a family of four in January 2024 in both an ocean view and a typical balcony cabin across both cruise lines. Note that, for the purpose of this comparison, we selected the least expensive room option in each category.
