Top 5 airlines flying to caracas.

Copa performed as expected for the amount of money I was willing to spend for the flight; it wasn’t exceptional but it was not bad in any way either. The crew was good; friendly and straightforward. The food was airplane food, so no expectations there and the entertainment was lacking but that was my fault for owning an IPhone with a charging port that’s not compatible with the rest of the world. I’d fly Copa again.

Left my bags in origin city on a business class ticket , spent about 2-3 days in the same clothes plus the flight .

the planes are not modern there are no phone chargers

As usual, the flight with normal legroom was not very comfortable, but the second flight was much better because we had paid for extra legroom. It was very nice to check our bags without an extra fee.

LOCKED MY BAG WITHOUT CONSENT. Had to have my zippers cut upon arrival in Costa Rica.

Everything was as you would expect in coach - fine. Flight was close to on time.

No air in the middle rows. Had a hard time breathing. Was dying of heat.

Horrific checkin procedure with neither Delta nor Latam figuring out how to check me in. 4 hrs on customer support with both and both airlines pointing to each other who should do checking. I was not checked in until morning of flight, which for international flight is concerning.

It was a good experience, the flight was a little too long & the food was ok

Hostile flight attendants. Second flight with Jose so much better. Arrived 1/2 hour early. Thanks.

the flight from Boston to Curitiba was on time actually 30 minutes earlier. latam was not able to unload the luggage for custom checkup in Sao Paulo ii took two and half hours . i missed the flight to Curitiba spend the night in hotel and then flying in the morning to Curitiba

Tough flight with turbulence… I was told by a fellow passenger that it is common. Nonetheless, very stressful. Cordial staff.

Very unprofessional staff in the checking and boarding. There was no space for my carry-on bag, which is understandable for a full flight. However, the rudeness in answering my questions about my bag were unnecessary. Shaming and threatening a passenger to be left behind was something I had never experienced (I am 57 years old and a Skymiles member) before. At a minimum, the boarding staff (Krystal Mejia and her manager Dee) should undergo further training on cultural sensitivity and professional skills on speaking with passengers. Krystal, just because I have dark hair and “look Latina” does not mean I can speak Spanish. Your assumption and threatening words until the very ending of my boarding (door of the airplane) were not only unnecessary and stressful but something that a passenger should not experience before boarding.

The flight was overbooked and the solution gave was unrespctful. I arrived 4 hour in advance in the airport and only after 2hous was possible suggest a different ticket with another company LATAM, I have accepted, but when I was checking in at LATAM the tickets was issued without luggage, what it is absurd since I have bought my tickets including it since the beginning. Due to the timing for the next flight was not possible return to Avianca to claim due to the distance between Both companies Avianca and Latam since were located in different terminals. I have insiste to the crew of Latam to call Avianca to solve it, but they could help they were alleging that only paying a thousand pesos Mexicans ($1,000 MXN) to dispatch my luggage would be accepted and I have no money at all. So I had to beg for others passagens, it was an humiliating to exchange luggage with who was platinum in order to return back the luggage in the connection airport in Brazil (GRU). I have no clue that a judicial process would be taken from my side due the lots of stress in sequence by the non professional treatment with a passenger that was just following everything said by Avianca.. Long hours of waiting until next flight and only arrive at final destine in 6hs later..

The flight from PDX to New York was cancelled, and I got rebooked one day later. Because of this I missed a meeting at my final destination, EZE. I now need to stay longer in Argentina, and was told the tariff difference was $780 plus $150 penalty! I am not using my return ticket, and have purchased a one way ticket EZE-PDX for $606 with another airline. SHAMEFUL

No water for a 5 hour flight entertainment not working seats with little room for knees when person in front of me reclined kept bumping my knees.

I don't think anyone actually reads these comments, so I won't spend much time on this submission. If you want to talk, you know how to reach me. The D/FW manager of Avianca (self-identified), Juan Calderon, insisted I buy an onward ticket from San Salvador even though I have diplomatic status in El Salvador and live here. It cost me $1,393 and Mr Calderon would not let me make the ticked flexible so I could get a refund. He went out of his way to be rude to me. He gave me seat 32K -- windowless window seat in the last row and did not offer to let me upgrade even though there were plenty of seats. I have flown well over a million miles in my life and this is the worst experience I have ever had. I would like a refund on the ticket I was forced to buy. Just awful!

This is the Spirit of Latino travel. And don’t even get me started on customer service.

Awful. I checked in online and there was no option to pay for baggage, at the airport when I checked in my baggage was received and Iwas not charged. When I got to LA during the boarding process I was told I didn't pay for baggage, the crew resolved I was let in the plane. When I got to my final destination my baggage was not there. It took me two days to receive my baggage. Bad service ever!

There was no food or drink service, couldn’t even get a glass of water for free. It was a long and expensive flight to not offer food or beverage on the plane.

It is better at the jfk than my home country. It was very easy and everything was on time.

There is no food. There is no in-inflight entertainment. The seats are cardboard. The airline is a living hellscape.

My experience was amazing! They helped my elderly mother board on early through a wheelchair and were accommodating to have us sit together since our seats were in different locations. When landing at the airport in GUA they were very helpful with full of hospitality.

No complimentary snacks food, beverage (not even water), pillow and blanket on a 6 hours long flight (including economy comfort). A low form of nickeling an diming. Lost a recurring passanger over a soda. Avianca never again.

Flight departure late. Got late in Colombia making us take a different flight next day. Avianca airport crew messed up my ticket so when a I got in Brazil I didn’t have a ticket for my destination. Had to buy a new ticket out of my pocket.

Never again! Each flight to and from DR was delayed over 24 hours.! 😡

No priority boarding (travelling with a toddler) and the flight was 4 hours late.

Their online check-in system was offline so the lines at the counter were extremely long. Making our connection was also very unpleasant as there were no priorities for boarding (basically a free-for-all) and since I was travelling with my toddler we had a very hard time. The connecting flight was also 4 hours late.

We were charged an additional $54 usd per passenger to board, not mentioned in the ticket.

Apple could launch its own cellular network, analyst says.

Apple could launch a cellular network for iPhone users

The growing popularity of eSIMs could allow Apple and other phone manufacturers to launch their own cellular networks, a respected telecoms analyst has claimed.

eSIMs—which replace the conventional SIM card found in phones with a small chip that’s permanently embedded in the phone—are becoming increasingly commonplace. Indeed, Apple itself launched an eSIM-only version of the iPhone 14 in the U.S. in 2022, a move that has accelerated adoption of eSIMs.

With eSIMs eradicating the need to distribute physical SIM cards and allowing cellular networks to activate customers instantly, a growing number of companies have set themselves up as virtual networks, including Western Union, Revolut and various airlines.

Apple and other smartphone manufacturers could also launch their own virtual networks, technology analyst firm CCS Insight claims. “What’s to stop an OEM [original equipment manufacturer] like Apple themselves offering eSIM capabilities?” said CCS Insight’s senior analyst, Luke Pearce, during a webinar on eSIM technology.

Although companies such as Apple or Samsung would still be reliant on the physical infrastructure provided by conventional networks such as Verizon or T-Mobile, by becoming a virtual network they would own the direct relationship with the consumer, posing a threat to those established cellular network giants.

“One of the most drastic scenarios for eSIM operators could be if it encourages major phone manufacturers to become virtual network providers,” said CCS Insight’s director of consumer and connectivity, Kester Mann.

WhatsApp Brand New iPhone Feature Just Launched That s Much Easier To Use

Earth s new second moon is as big as the statue of liberty and scientists just found its origin, new apple id password reset issue hitting iphone ipad and macbook users.

Mann added that such a move was “unlikely in the near term,” but warned that “the industry should be prepared for such a scenario, as it might mean that one day a customer could take a device and a service plan from the same company, without necessarily needing to interact with a traditional operator.”

The End Of SIM Cards

Apple is clearly setting the direction of travel for the mobile industry, with physical SIM cards being gradually phased out.

“We think Apple will continue to release this eSIM-only variant [of iPhone] in more markets, but at a slow pace, starting in certain markets like Canada, the U.K. and Australia, where eSIM support is more mature and the operator landscape is less fragmented,” said Pearce.

That could encourage other leading smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung and Google, to follow suit. With more than 50 different network operators in the U.S. now offering eSIM support and increasing support across the rest of the world, it feels like only a matter of time before SIM cards are eradicated entirety, although it’s a “fairly long road ahead,” Pearce warns, with global eSIM adoption currently at less than 3%.

Roaming eSIMs

The emergence of eSIMs has also proved to be a huge bonus for travelers, according to CCS Insight, with the emergence of roaming providers who offer much better deals on roaming data than the traditional networks.

“Despite a slow start due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the [eSIM] market here is booming, offering convenient and more affordable data-only roaming deals to millions of international travelers,” said Pearce.

“Our research suggests that already in some countries, as many as 10% of tourists are now procuring an eSIM before travel, with almost 60% considering it,” he added.

That’s backed up by a recent study from Juniper Research, which predicted the market for travel eSIMs will grow from 40 million this year to more than 215 million by 2028, largely fueled by cost savings. Juniper found that mobile subscribers spend an average of $8.57 per GB of data when roaming, but that international travelers using eSIMs spent only $5.50 per GB.

3.5.2.10 CCS - activity test - general

The activity test is one of the 3 factors that will determine an individual's ( 1.1.I.90 ) level of CCS (the others being the family's combined annual ATI ( 1.1.A.20 ) and the applicable hourly rate cap ( 1.1.H.20 ) depending on the type of child care service ( 1.1.A.90 ) used).

This topic includes:

  • hours of recognised activity

ACCS & the CCS activity test

  • recognised activities for CCS activity test
  • hours of activity do not need to coincide with child care hours
  • combining activities
  • reasonable travel time
  • starting paid work or increasing hours of paid work
  • casual or irregular work
  • evidentiary requirements
  • change in activity.

Policy reference: FA Guide 3.5 CCS entitlement, 3.5.1 CCS - combined annual ATI, 3.5.3 CCS - hourly rate caps

Hours of recognised activity

To be entitled ( 1.1.E.30 ) to subsidised care, an individual must either meet the activity test, or be exempt. If the individual is not exempt from the activity test, the number of hours of subsidised care the individual will be entitled to per fortnight will be determined by the amount of recognised activity the individual, and their partner ( 1.1.P.30 ) if they have one, undertakes in a CCS fortnight ( 1.1.C.10 ). Unless otherwise specified, the activity test result applies to all children in the family.

In single parent families, the sole parent ( 1.1.P.10 ) must meet the activity test or have an exemption.

In 2 parent families, each parent must meet the activity test or have an exemption. The parent with the lowest activity test result will determine the hours of subsidised care for the family.

The following table shows the number of subsidised hours of approved child care an individual is entitled to receive in a CCS fortnight based on their hours of recognised activity:

Families with combined annual ATI of $80,000* or less who do not meet or who are not exempt from the activity test will be entitled to 24 hours of subsidised care per fortnight under the Child Care Safety Net.

From July 2023, families will get at least 36 subsidised hours of early childhood education and care per fortnight for each Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child in their care.

*Figure relates to the 2023-24 income year and will be indexed by the CPI at the commencement of each financial year (to take effect on 10 July 2023 for CCS and ACCS purposes).

Act reference: FAAct Schedule 2 clause 12 Recognised activity result

Policy reference: FA Guide 3.5.5 CCS & ACCS - exceptional circumstances

Individuals who are eligible for ACCS (child wellbeing), ACCS (temporary financial hardship) and ACCS (grandparent) are exempt from the CCS activity test. Individuals on these payments will automatically be entitled to up to 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight.

Individuals will still be required to provide information on their activity:

  • to determine the number of subsidised hours for children not covered by ACCS, or
  • in case they need to access CCS once their certificate or determination finishes.

If an individual has been receiving ACCS (child wellbeing) for 6 months or more they will be exempt from the activity test for a further 18 months for the child, once ACCS (child wellbeing) has ceased.

Individuals eligible for the ACCS (transition to work) are subject to the CCS activity test.

Act reference : FAAct Schedule 2 clause 11 Individual's activity test result, clause 15 Child wellbeing result

Policy reference: FA Guide 3.5.2.30 ACCS (transition to work) - activity test, 2.8.1.30 ACCS (child wellbeing) - certificates, 2.8.1.40 ACCS (child wellbeing) - determinations, 2.8.3.40 ACCS (temporary financial hardship) - determinations

Recognised activities for CCS activity test

The following activities are recognised for the CCS activity test:

Other activities

If an individual undertakes another type of activity (not listed above) that would maintain or improve work skills or employment prospects (or both), they can make an application to Centrelink to have these hours of activity recognised for the purpose of the CCS activity test.

Act reference: FAAct Schedule 2 clause 12(2) What is recognised activity

Family Law Act 1975

Reporting hours of activity

The following paragraphs explain how individuals should report the number of hours of recognised activity they are participating in each fortnight.

Hours of activity do not need to coincide with child care hours

When declaring activity hours for CCS, the activity hours do not need to coincide with child care hours. For example, an individual undertaking work on the weekends will be entitled to CCS during the week.

Combining activities

Individuals can combine recognised activities and the individual's activity test result is determined by counting all the hours of recognised activities undertaken in a fortnight.

Example: Jane does paid work for 12 hours per fortnight, volunteers at her child's school reading to children for 6 hours per fortnight, and does unpaid work in her family's business for 8 hours per fortnight. Jane's activity would be a combined total of 26 hours per fortnight, which would entitle her to 72 hours of subsidised approved child care per fortnight (step 2 of the activity test).

Reasonable travel time

To support the various distances families need to travel for child care, individuals can include reasonable travel time when declaring their hours of activity. This is the time taken travelling from the approved child care service to the place where they do the activity and travel from this place back to the child care service.

Travel time where the child is in the care of the individual should not be included when reporting hours of activity; this means:

  • travel from home to the child care service to drop the child off, and
  • travel time from the service to home or other locations after collecting the child.

To inform consideration of reasonable travel time, individuals should consider how long it takes to reach their place of work or other activity directly from the child care service, and vice versa. Travel time can include travel via a car, bicycle, public transport and/or walking where appropriate.

If the place of work or other activity varies day to day, individuals should take this into account when estimating total travel time on a fortnightly basis.

Example: Nadia is a single parent who lives in Western Sydney and works 7 hours a day in a financial services office near the Sydney CBD. Nadia's son Jason attends a CBDC service close to the family home. After she drops Jason at the service, it takes Nadia one hour to drive directly to her workplace and one hour to return. Nadia bases her activity estimate on 9 hours per day - 7 hours of work and 2 hours of travel.

Example: Kate works as a beauty therapist for 6 hours a day in Canberra. Her son Cale attends a CBDC service near the family home. After dropping off her son at the service, Kate has a 30 minute drive to the salon. After finishing her shift, she goes to the gym for an hour-long workout before returning to the service to collect her son. Kate's activity estimate of 7 hours per day includes her hours of work and her 30 minute travel time to and from the service - 6 hours of work and one hour of travel. Kate's travel time estimate, however, cannot include her hour at the gym.

Starting paid work or increasing hours of paid work

Individuals starting paid work or increasing their hours of paid work, may have this change in activity recognised from the beginning of the CCS fortnight before the CCS fortnight when work actually commences, or hours of paid work increase.

Depending on how far into a CCS fortnight the individual begins or increases their hours of paid work, their new activity test result could be applied for at least 14 days, or up to 28 days, before the actual day they commence their new work arrangements.

To benefit from this rule, individuals must notify Centrelink as soon as possible when they know they are starting a job or increasing their hours of paid work.

This rule applies to individuals starting or increasing hours of paid work only and cannot be applied to other recognised activities. For activities other than paid work, individuals notifying Centrelink of a change in their activity will have their new activity test result apply from the beginning of the next CCS fortnight.

Paid work that varies unpredictably

An individual whose hours of paid work vary unpredictably from fortnight to fortnight (such as those in casual employment) can estimate the highest number of hours they expect to work in a single fortnight over a 3‑month period. This estimate will be used to determine their hours of subsidised approved child care per fortnight. Estimating hours on this basis will not be needed by workers with a consistent number of fortnightly hours (who will be required to report their actual hours of activity), and this approach can only be applied to report unpredictable hours of paid work (not for other types of recognised activity).

Example: Suzie is a single parent working at a supermarket. Her hours per fortnight can vary from 15 (2 shifts per fortnight) to 45 (6 shifts per fortnight). Occasionally she can also be called in to work at short notice for extra shifts if they are short staffed on the day.

Suzie's working hours across 6 fortnights range from 15 hours to 45 hours per fortnight - this would ordinarily give her an activity test result of 36 hours or 72 hours respectively, depending on the hours she worked in that fortnight.

To support her estimated maximum hours of paid work with access to sufficient hours of subsidised approved child care, Suzie would declare an estimate of 45 hours of paid work per fortnight and would be entitled to 72 hours of subsidised child care per fortnight (step 2 of the activity test).

Example: Milli works 2 casual jobs in the fast food industry. Her total hours can vary significantly across fortnights - in some fortnights she may not work at all, while in others she can be assigned up to 5 four hour shifts.

Milli's working hours across 6 fortnights range from 0 hours to 20 hours per fortnight - this would ordinarily give her an activity test result of zero (unless she was entitled to 24 hours of subsidised care under the Child Care Safety Net) or 72 hours respectively, depending on the hours she worked in that fortnight.

To support her estimated maximum hours of paid work with access to sufficient hours of subsidised approved child care, Milli would declare an estimate of 20 hours of paid work per fortnight and would be entitled to 72 hours of subsidised child care in each fortnight (step 2 of the activity test).

Individuals who estimate activity in this way will need to notify Centrelink of a change where their level of activity, estimated over 3 months, would cause them to move to another step of the activity test. This would include, for example, where the individual stopped working altogether or where the basis of their 3‑month estimate has changed and needs to be updated. In the first example, if Suzie moved to a permanent arrangement of two 7.5 hour shifts per fortnight (15 hours of paid work per fortnight), she should notify Centrelink as this would result in her moving to step 1 of the activity test, and being entitled to 36 hours of subsidised care per fortnight. In the second example, if Milli stopped working, she should notify Centrelink as this would result in her potentially not meeting the activity test, depending on what other recognised activities she is undertaking, or activity test exemptions she may be eligible for.

Evidentiary requirements

Individuals self-declare activity to Centrelink and generally evidence is not required at the time of claim or when updating their activity information. Centrelink will ask some individuals to provide evidence as part of their normal random spot checks.

Evidence could include, a copy of a payslip or a letter from the organisation where the individual is a volunteer.

Change in activity

When an individual (or their partner) experiences a change in activity that would affect their entitlement, for example, that would mean they move from one step of the activity test to the next, they are required to notify Centrelink as soon as possible.

If an individual reports a change in activity in advance of the change occurring, the new activity test result will take effect from the beginning of the CCS fortnight after the change occurred.

If the individual reports a change in activity after the change occurred, the change will take effect from the beginning of the CCS fortnight after the change was notified.

If the change in activity test result is beneficial to the individual (for example, it caused the individual to be entitled to more hours of subsidised care per fortnight) a review will be conducted, but the higher result will only be applied for a maximum of 28 days prior to the change being reported to Centrelink.

If the change is not beneficial to the individual (for example, it caused them to be entitled to fewer hours of subsidised care per fortnight) a review will be conducted, and the lower result will be applied as far back as the change occurred. That is, if the individual reports the change 6 months late they may incur a debt in relation to payments already calculated and made on the basis that they had access to more hours of subsidised care than they were in fact entitled to, for that whole period.

Traveling with Medication

  • June 1, 2022

ccs travel time

With the summer vacation season in full swing, many people are traveling or soon will be. Whether you’re headed to the beach or the mountains, it’s important to think about your prescription medications when making your travel plans.

To help make sure your trip goes smoothly, here are a few things to keep in mind as you are making that “to do” list and starting to pack:

  • Take enough medication to last the entire length of your trip, as well as a few extra days’ worth, just in case you are delayed returning home. Most insurance companies offer a vacation override that will allow you to refill your medication early. You can contact your insurance to find out if they offer this override and how to qualify.
  • Keep all your medications in their original prescription containers, and do not combine medication into one bottle. Carrying each medication in its own separate container will ensure that you have all the information you need on hand.
  • When traveling with syringes, it’s a good idea to have a doctor’s note indicating why you have syringes. Traveling by air obviously involves more advance planning when it comes to your medications. To see the American Diabetes Association’s Air Travel and Diabetes Fact Sheet, click here .
  • Consider time zone changes that could affect the date and/or time you take your medication. If you will be crossing time zones, talk with your healthcare provider in advance about how it may impact you.
  • If you run out of medication while traveling, you can contact your pharmacy to assist in getting your prescription filled at a local pharmacy in the visiting area. Nearly every medication can be refilled at nearly any pharmacy in the United States. Most doctors will provide you with a medication order you can take with you to have filled at another U.S. pharmacy.

Ccs scores early, holds off walker valley for soccer win, chargers edge mustangs 2-1 in tight thriller of a match.

  • Friday, April 26, 2024
  • Alex McElyea

The Chattanooga Christian School soccer team took down Walker Vally in a tight thriller that left the fans on the edge of their seat until the final whistle. The Walker Valley Mustangs came to play at the CCS pitch in hopes to get the best of them. In the end, the Chargers clinched the win with a close score of 2-1.

The Chargers lined up with their usual 4-3-3 formation this time with amore defensive shape. They showed an attacking midfielder, however, the midfield sat back to hold possession and use build up plays from the back line to create attacking opportunities. Walker valley shared the same formation with a slightly different game plan. They won the ball quickly and immediately sent it to the wings to try and get the ball in an attacking situation before CCS had time to respond.

Walker Valley was not able to find their rhythm until the second half. They seemed to be a step behind the Chargers, and it proved to be devastating for their chances to win. CCS always starts off strong and runs at every defense they play against. They are strong on offense with plenty of attacking weapons that can be dangerous. More than anything they have their set pieces that often win them games.

The Chargers’ first goal came from a corner by Josh Grant. The ball deflects off Lyndon Tucker’s head to land in front of CCS right back J.D. Patton. Patton stayed composed in a crowded situation to place the ball perfectly past the keeper after about seven minutes of play.

The next goal came in right before halftime. CCS found themselves with another corner to which the head coach of CCS, Tyler Robertson, called a special set piece and was so confident that they would score that he called it before it even happened. The corner was played in Josh Grant again. This time the players spaced themselves out to leave Ethan Regis open at the top of the box. He gained control and smashed it into the back of the net to make it 2-0 at halftime.

The second kicked off and not thirty seconds went by, and Walker Valley have put the deficit with one. After a planned kick off special they worker the ball forward through the wings. Samuel Maslov gets possessions finds Grey Davies wide. Davies puts himself in a one-on-one position to put the Mustangs on the board. This would conclude the scoring for the night. Both teams fought hard to either strengthen their lead or tie it up. Unfortunately, nothing would come of any of their chances and the game would end 2-1.

Coach Robertson was willing to give some of his thoughts after the game was over. He was pleased with the win despite the close scoreline and with reason. A win this late helps their chances going into the playoffs where they will have to play teams like Baylor or Knoxville Webb. Here is what Coach Robertson had to say.

“I think we started off really strong. Walker Valley is always a good team, and they work really hard. I think we started off really hot and I knew Walker Valley would make a push at the end. I think today was the first time we saw some heavy legs from our boys as we are coming towards the end of the year. Not an excuse. Credit to Walker Valley, they made things difficult in the second half for us. A result is a result, and we win and move on.”

Game Summary

Travel Time

Time spent traveling during normal work hours is considered compensable work time. Time spent in home-to-work travel by an employee in an employer-provided vehicle, or in activities performed by an employee that are incidental to the use of the vehicle for commuting, generally is not "hours worked" and, therefore, does not have to be paid. This provision applies only if the travel is within the normal commuting area for the employer's business and the use of the vehicle is subject to an agreement between the employer and the employee or the employee's representative.

Oklahoma man facing 12 years in Turks & Caicos prison released on bond, banned from travel

Ryan watson made bail a couple weeks after he was detained and arrested for ammo possession in turks & caicos. but he's not allowed to leave..

ccs travel time

An American man facing 12 years in prison in Turks & Caicos after airport security found ammunition in his duffel bag won’t have to spend one more night in jail . For now.

Ryan Watson, 40, appeared before a court on Wednesday, agreeing to pay $15,000 to secure his release, according to a news alert from The Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Force.

The court granted Watson's release about two weeks after he was initially detained and arrested. He's being released with a slew of stipulations, including being prohibited from leaving the archipelago nation. He also had to surrender his passport and travel documents to the court, and needs to report to police twice a week as his case moves through the system.

His next court hearing is set for June 7.

Here’s what we know.

Why were Ryan and Valerie Watson detained in the Turks and Caicos?

Ryan and Valerie Watson were in Turks & Caicos to celebrate the 40th birthdays of several friends in early April, USA TODAY reported.

The couple was trying to catch a flight back home on April 12, when airport security found four rounds of ammunition “unknowingly left in a duffel bag from a deer hunting trip,” according to a GoFundMe post made on behalf of the family.

They were both questioned and subsequently charged with possession of ammunition, a charge that carries a minimum of 12 years in prison in Turks & Caicos.

The couple was stuck on the island without passports, unable to get back to their two young children, which left Valerie Watson “terrified.”

“We can't both be in prison for 12 years. We have kids at home," she told WBTS-TV in Boston  "And this is such an innocent mistake that we ... didn't even know it was there. So yeah, my immediate thought was our kids and them being parentless for that long."

Ryan Watson maintains that it was a “bonehead mistake” on his part, not knowing that the ammunition rounds he typically uses to hunt whitetail deer were in his bag, the outlet reported.

Ultimately, the charges were dropped against Valerie Watson, who has returned to Oklahoma.

Oklahoma governor vouches for family: ‘Outstanding members of the community’

Days after the Watson family was detained, Republican Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt sent a letter to the Turks & Caicos Islands government in an attempt to get the home sooner.

“The Watsons are upstanding members of their community and the State of Oklahoma, and I can assure you countless others stand willing to confirm their high moral characters,” Stitt said.

He continued to say that the couple would never “intentionally break the law,” emphasizing the importance of having them return to Oklahoma so they can continue to serve the community, Valerie as a school teacher and Ryan as a medical product salesman.

And so that their children, Van and Ellie, don’t have to face another day without both parents, he said.

Family creates GoFundMe to bring Ryan Watson home

Close friends have created a GoFundMe on behalf of the Watson family to cover the costs of “mounting legal fees, living expenses, and the overwhelming stress of their situation.”

Valerie Watson said that the strain her family is under is tremendous, telling WBTS-TV that it could “ruin them.”

“We've already talked, and we're like, what if we lose our house? Which, when we moved to Oklahoma, we built a home that we thought was our forever home,” she said.

The sentiment was echoed by Ryan Watson, who says “this is something that we may never recover from.”

“The emotional and financial toll is immense, and they are at risk of losing everything,” the fundraiser description reads.

The GoFundMe had raised about $196,000 of the $250,000 goal by Friday night.

What happens next?

Valerie Watson and her children are awaiting her husband’s next court appearance, set for June 7.

Even though Ryan Watson “forgot” about the ammunition in his bag, he may not be able to leave the Turks & Caicos Islands without serving time. The government prohibits anyone, of status or origin, to possess a firearm, ammunition, or any other weapon.

There are exceptions to this, of course, but the court is still required to issue “both a sentence of imprisonment and a fine” that are in line with what the court would consider an “exceptional circumstance,” USA TODAY reported.

The Turks & Caicos government stiffened the penalties for firearm possession in February, noting that there were a handful of cases involving "exceptional circumstances" that allowed accused people to get away with paying a fine. “exceptional circumstances."

The accessibility of commercial centers (CCs) is a topic of great concern to consumers and planners. However, current research is mostly limited to the accessibility of a single traffic mode or rough road network, which makes it difficult to reflect on the real travel situation of residents. Based on the two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) method framework, we propose an extended method for analyzing the accessibility of CCs in different transportation modes, making it suitable for commercial geography research. The Baidu Map API is used to provide more accurate, convenient, and realistic data for reliable estimates to pinpoint underserved populations. The results can be summarized as follows: First, the multimode R2SFCA method proposed fills the knowledge gap to the accessibility of a single traffic mode or or rough road network. Second, there exist significant differences in the spatial distribution of access to CCs for consumers in different transportation modes. The range of public transit along metro or bus routes shows a finger-like spatial distribution, while car traffic extends along external urban traffic routes and is time-sensitive because of traffic conditions. Third, changes in the average accessibility scores for all travel modes showed similar patterns with increasing threshold time. These accessibility measures help identify underserved areas and enable the development of policy recommendations for the optimal allocation of commercial facilities and resources.
