Lincolnshire Coop's travel agency has relocated from inside the Oldrids department store building in the town centre.

The team of travel experts are now helping holidaymakers from a new home inside the Downtown Home Superstore at Wyberton Chain Bridge.

It has relocated following the closure of Oldrids this summer after 216 years trading in Boston .

Travel branch manager Zane Ground said Wyberton Chain Bridge was a great location.

He said: "We’re looking forward to helping our long-standing customers and to welcoming new people, eager to explore what Lincolnshire Co-op travel is all about.

“Because we’re independent and aren’t tied to any single tour operator, we have the flexibility to book from many different suppliers. We’re also bonded by ABTA and only use ATOL tour operators, so we offer that security too.

“People can be sure that when they’re ready to book a holiday, we’re here for them. We’ll be able to help whether it’s arranging a future break or giving expert advice on travel issues in 2021.”

The branch, which also provides a bureau de change service, opens from 10am until 6pm from Monday to Saturday.

It will also be open on Sunday January 3, Sunday 10 and Sunday 17.

Oldrids Boston department store shuts after 216 years

A department store in Lincolnshire is to close after more than two centuries trading at the site.

The Oldrids store has been in Boston town centre for 216 years.

The company said the store had been unprofitable "for several years" and the coronavirus pandemic was one of the reasons for the closure.

An employee consultation has begun but it is not yet known how many jobs are at risk.

A rise in employment costs and the closure of the nearby Marks and Spencer store leading to a drop in footfall were also cited as reasons for the store's closure.

The company's other sites, including one on the outskirts of the town and a garden centre in Grantham, are to continue to operate.

The town centre shop has been closed since the coronavirus lockdown began and the company proposes not to reopen it.

The shop began in Boston in 1804 when John Oldrid and Richard Hyde purchased a small retail unit.

Martin Isaac, chairman of Oldrid & Co Ltd, said it would be "genuinely upsetting to contemplate the centre of Boston without Oldrids".

"The challenges being faced are now considered unsurmountable.

"This is immensely sad for our company and a very worrying time for those whose jobs are at risk," he added.

Excitement in Boston as department store replaces Oldrids after 216 years

A grand opening event has been held at the new Rebos Department Store in Boston, as it replaces the iconic Oldrids shop some 200 years after it first opened in the town.

Oldrids closed on Strait Bargate in July 2020, after an incredible 216 years of trading in Boston, blaming the closure on the COVID-19 pandemic and reduced footfall.

It has been replaced with Rebos Department Store, a new flagship shop for the town which boasts beauty, fashion and homeware products, as well as gifts, a restaurant and a cafe.

It first opened on October 4, but a grand opening event was held on Friday, October 15, with Boston Borough Council leader Paul Skinner and mayor of the town Frank Pickett in attendance.

A spokesperson for Boston Borough Council said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to meet the team and celebrate the opening of the store – which has breathed new life into the former Oldrids building.

“We’d like to thank Rebos Boston for inviting us along and we wish them every success for the future!”

Rebos owner Serkan Arslan said: “We were able to employ more people (around 50) to join the new store and it’s such a unique location, the best in any town.

“We hope bringing Rebos to the town centre will help other businesses to grow. We appreciate the support from the people of Boston and if you come to see us please leave a Google review so we can continue to improve the store.”

A Lady Gaga loving kitten owned by a couple who run a charity for disabled pets featured on Channel 5’s The Pet Psychic.

Pet Psychic Beth Lee-Crowther comes to the aid of pet owners and in Tuesday night’s episode she met Cookie the kitten, a depressed camel, and looked at whether a dog can predict the future.
