Liverpool is fast developing a reputation as a foodie hot spot, and The Art School is feted as one of the city’s best restaurants. The vision of long-established north-west chef Paul Askew, The Art School is situated in a stunning Victorian building on Sugnall Street and is a favourite dining spot among locals. With a range of fixed price and tasting menus, The Art School serves modern veggie and meat dishes to suit a range of budgets.

Mowgli Street Food

With so many cultures calling Liverpool home there's no surprise you can find one of the best Indian eateries here. Located just off Water Street and Bold Street, this eastern gem boasts a fantastic menu filled with tasty delicacies all at a reasonable price.

Where to drink

Visit a watering hole in the Georgian Quarter

Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter is a handsome cluster of buildings in the centre, and a great neighbourhood to explore the city’s nightlife. The Belvedere on Sugnall Street has its very own Liverpool gin in its ‘GinNasium’, while The 23 Club is a charming alehouse in a quaint, library-style environment.

Get locked up at Alcotraz

This prison-themed cocktail bar experience is something that has to be seen to be believed. Gear up in your orange jumpsuit and smuggle your drinks past the guards for a cocktail party behind bars. If you play your cards right some of the crooked guards may even supply you some contraband too.

See the world’s most famous music club

For many music lovers, no night out in Liverpool is complete without a trip to the world-famous Cavern Club. Known to millions as the place where The Beatles performed many of their early gigs, today The Cavern showcases up and coming talent from Liverpool’s exciting music scene, with special Beatles nights for those who love the old favourites.

Where to shop

Liverpool ONE

A fixture of Liverpool’s musical folklore since 1971, the record shop was frequented by members of Echo and the Bunnymen and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Today, Probe Records is still popular for musos in the market for rare vinyls, affordable albums and collectables.

Reid of Liverpool

For a trip through time pay a visit to Reid of Liverpool, a second-hand bookshop in close proximity to the Philharmonic Hall and Liverpool Playhouse. With more than 40,000 titles, and with prices from 50p, it’s the perfect place to buy an affordable page-turner for the coach journey home.

Liverpool Coach Trip Highlights

The Beatles Experience If you are a fan of the Beatles, you have to go to the Award-Winning Beatles Story Experience whilst on a coach break to Liverpool. It takes you back in time, and your journey begins in the late 50s. During the visit you will explore the life, culture and music of the Beatles. The ticket of the Beatles Story Experience also includes the Beatles Story at the Albert Dock and the Pier Head. Enjoy the Fab4D Experience, which will take you on an amazing journey with 3 and 4 dimensional special effects. Among other relevant places in Liverpool, you can also visit the Beatles themed Starbucks Coffee house if you want to chill out.

Albert Dock The most popular tourist attraction in Liverpool is The Albert Dock. The Albert Dock is part of UNESCO and made Liverpool one of the centres of world trade in the 18th and 19th centuries, playing a vital role in the growth of the British Empire and the Industrial Revolution. At The Albert Dock, you will find the Tate Liverpool, with a national collection of modern art, The Pier Head, the home of the Mersey Ferries, and the Three Graces (The Royal Liver building, The Cunard building and the Port of Liverpool building) which also form part of the World Heritage Site.

Merseyside Maritime Museum The Merseyside Maritime Museum is also located in the Albert Dock. Visit the Titanic, Lusitania and the Forgotten Empress galleries. These ships have strong links with Liverpool and the people who lived in Liverpool (Liverpudlians). The sinking of those ships all happened within 3 years of each other. Visit the museum to explore more about this and learn about Liverpool's maritime past and the Battle of the Atlantic.

Liverpool Cathedrals Liverpool has two Cathedrals. Liverpool Cathedral is the largest cathedral in the UK (in square metres). By doing an audio tour you will learn more about the history, architecture, art, its people and purpose. The tower of the Cathedral stands 154m above the river Mersey and offers you an amazing view. You might see the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. This cathedral, designed by Sir Frederick Gibberd, is well-worth visiting as well. The building began in 1962 and less than 5 years later in 1967, the building was completed.

Sefton Park and Sefton Park Palm House If you fancy a walk, why not go to Sefton Park, and combine this with a look at the Sefton Park Palm House. This fascinating Glass House has a collection of plants from all over the world. There are many historic parks in Liverpool, including Calderstones Park with its monolithic statues, which are said to be older than Stonehenge. The park is also host to the annual International Tennis Tournament, the Allerton Oak (or Law Oak), and 4000 different species of plants from all over the world.

Speke Hall Speke Hall, assisted by a grant from National Museums Liverpool, and administered and financed by the National Trust, is a Tudor manor house, originally built in 1530. The interior is an integrating mixture of Tudor and Victorian times, with wallpaper from the infamous William Morris. Speke Hall's restored gardens are well worth a visit, to embrace the stunning views of the Welsh hills.

The Bluecoat Dating from the early 18th century, and situated in the heart of the city, the Bluecoat building's architectural importance is illuminated by its UNESCO world heritage and Grade One listed status. The Bluecoat arts centre is over 290 years old and is used to showcase various talents including music, dance, visual art, live art and literature. The Bluecoat also provides a creative hub for people to meet, talk, work, question, perform, create, display and enjoy themselves.

Walker Art Gallery Visit the free Walker Art Gallery for possibly the best collection of paintings, sculptures and decorative arts in the North of England, with an amazing collection of pieces dating back as far as Rembrant, Rubens, Millais, Rossetti, Turner and Holman Hunt. The Walker Art Gallery also houses a growing collection of contemporary art pieces, and a specially designed Children's gallery for the under 8's.

World Museum Liverpool World Museum Liverpool - formerly Liverpool Museum, is host to The Clore Natural History Centre, Bug House, World Cultures gallery, Weston Discovery Centre and the Planetarium. You can also find out about dinosaurs, fossils and animals from around the world and enjoy special events and exhibitions.

Liverpool Canal The Liverpool Canal Link is 127 miles long, making it the longest canal in Britain, built as a single waterway - yet one of the least busy. Via its connection with the Aire and Calder at Leeds, it offers a coast-to-coast route across the North of England.

Liverpool F.C Stadium Tour If you are a fan of Liverpool F.C. football club, you have to visit Anfield. For a unique experience, you can take a tour around the Anfield Stadium and museum.

Liverpool History Liverpool, historically a part of Lancashire, is a city and metropolitan borough of Merseyside. It is the fourth largest city in the UK, gaining city status in 1880. Liverpool won UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2004, because of the impressive waterfront that stretched from Albert Dock along Pier Head and up to Stanley Dock. Liverpool used to be a major port, so you will find people of different nationalities living there. Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture in 2008, and during your stay, you will find Irish pubs, Caribbean restaurants, Chinese art, and much more!

Liverpool

With more Georgian architecture than any other city in the UK, a world-famous waterfront with the highest concentration of listed city buildings and monuments outside London as well as an array of exciting attractions, coach trips to Liverpool are on the rise. Stroll through the modern Tate Liverpool for innovative, interesting art before brushing up on Liverpool's seafaring heritage at the Merseyside Maritime Museum.

It goes without saying that as well as return coach travel and accommodation in a good 3 or 4* hotel in or close to the city, most coach holidays to Liverpool will incorporate a Beatles orientated tour either as an inclusion or option, and a journey on the legendary "Ferry 'Cross the Mersey" is usually the order of the day. Grand National race ground Aintree is also close, offering fun-fuelled trips to the greatest steeplechase event in the horse racing calendar.

To help you have an enjoyable holiday in England, please take a look at these useful tips and advice provided by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office:

Health and Travel Insurance  Travel insurance is recommended by all our tour operators and for some operators it is a condition of booking. When choosing a travel insurance please ensure it fully covers all your personal requirements including pre-existing medical conditions, cancellation charges, medical expenses, and repatriation in the event of accident or illness. As a British citizen you will obviously be entitled to free emergency health care on the NHS.

If you are visiting England from outside the United Kingdom and fall ill or are involved in an accident and are from an EU country or Switzerland, you can use a valid EHIC issued by your home country to access healthcare. Please note this is not an alternative to travel insurance.  Comprehensive travel insurance is advised for nationalities planning on visiting the UK.

For the latest information and travel advice regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19), please click  here

If you need to contact the emergency services whilst in the UK simply dial 999 or 112 to ask for an ambulance.

Crime  The United Kingdom is a safe place to visit, however, as with all countries please exercise common sense. Petty crime can occur so take your usual precautions such as not leaving luggage unattended, beware of pickpockets in tourist areas and leave valuables in the hotel safe.

Local Laws and Customs  Queuing is a British Institution - jump a queue at your own risk!

If you are visiting from outside of the United Kingdom, it is wise to check customs requirements before you travel. If you are planning to bring alcohol, tobacco or souvenirs into the country, you need to be familiar with the UK's custom laws. If you go over your allowances, you may have to pay tax or duty. It is worth checking the  HM Revenues and Customs website  before you travel.

UK Entry Requirements  When travelling between the UK, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man you may need to show a Border Force officer a document confirming your identity. In most cases an official form of identification such as a driver's license or an armed forces identity card will be ok. However, some airlines will insist you show a passport so please check before you travel.

If you’re from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein you can enter the UK with one of the following identity documents: a passport, an Irish passport card or a national identity card issued by an EU country, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, if you’re eligible to use one. The identity document should be valid for the whole of your stay.

If you’re from outside the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you must have a valid passport to enter the UK. It should be valid for the whole of your stay. You may also need a visa, depending on which country you’re from. Please check  here  if a visa is required before you travel.

On Monday 11th February 1963 the Beatles' debut album was recorded in just one day.

WELCOME TO BEATLES CITY EXPLORER

Beatles tour in liverpool.

Introducing our Beatles tour in Liverpool, the easiest way to explore our city and the exciting story of how the Beatles came to be. Liverpool is an incredible city with a rich musical background, and there is no greater attraction than being the birthplace of one of the world's biggest bands. The Beatles didn't shy away from their heritage; much of the city is referenced in their classic tracks.

With the Beatles bus tour, you can experience the best Beatles locations in Liverpool at an unbeatable price. Our informative tour guide will talk you through history, facts, and humour related to Liverpool and the Beatles.

After leaving the Royal Albert Dock, we will pick up customers at the Pier Head before going past Mathew Street to Ringo Starr's childhood home. The bus then stops at iconic locations Penny Lane and Strawberry Field, where you can take a few photos. We will then journey past John Lennon's childhood house before stopping where Paul McCartney grew up. The bus will make its way through Sefton Park, passing the home once belonging to original bass guitarist Stuart Sutcliffe. Our final path is through Otterspool before we finish back at the dock.

We are the only open-top tour that drives past Ringo's house and down to Paul's and Stuart's for photo opportunities.

Things to see and do in Liverpool

If you travel to the UK sightseeing, then the northern powerhouse of England is a “must-visit” location and Liverpool has to be on your list of places to go and see. Famed not only for its music, but also for its shopping,  food, history, architecture and its approach to fun.

For a more detailed list of things to do in Liverpool then we have a separate page to assist you with extra things to see and do in Liverpool.

The city is a mecca for weekend breaks for many nationals. With Liverpool airport and Lime Street station on hand, Liverpool is accessible from all points of the UK. The City is visited by people as far afield as London, Dublin and Edinburgh.

Historically, Liverpool is a catalyst for pop culture. Here you can experience the roots of this culture with the many Beatles experiences and Liverpool tour highlights. You could start with “ The Beatles Story ” a modern museum about the history of the Beatles and located on the historical Royal Albert Dock.

Statues of  the fab four, or just John Lennon and Paul McCartney, can be seen around the city, along with characters from the Fab Four’s songs, including Elenore Rigby. Visit the Cavern Club , and then venture into the city centre where you can still the feel the vibe of the city’s music culture.

Staying on the art theme, Liverpool has one of the four TATE art galleries (two in London). Tate Liverpool Art Gallery Set up by Henry Tate, an industrialist, in 1889. Henry was a man who made his fortune through sugar refinery and provided his art collection and funding to start the first art gallery.

The World Museum in Liverpool is one of the greatest museums in the United Kingdom. With collections and displays of life sciences, earth sciences and human cultures from around the world, it is also only a short walk front the city centre. BusyBus has one of its pick-up points at the entrance of the Liverpool World Museum on William Brown street.

You also can not ignore Liverpool Football Club. Understand what all the excitement is about by visiting the KOP,  seeing the players changing rooms, sit in the manager’s dugout on the pitch and absorb the sense of excitement of a match day.

Liverpool is a great weekend City for dining during those pleasant evenings with a large array of activities to try during the day. Spend some time down by the river and see where Liverpool’s maritime influence on the region started all those centuries ago with the Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Royal Dock Authority Building (known collectively as the three Graces). You can rest your feet and sample the food on offer at the Royal Albert Dock, the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

Take a day tour by bus to see the North West’s countryside. Within an hour of leaving the city, you can be amongst the many mountains of North Wales or the Lake District or even walking along the cobblestone roads in Yorkshire.

Your bus tours will fit in really well with all the experiences Liverpool has to offer.  Right alongside the ghost walking tours, treasure hunts,  walking and drinking evening tours, or the Mersey Liverpool ferry cruises,  Liverpool really does have it all.

Arne Slot 'could be a Liverpool coach' - Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has said Arne Slot "could be a Liverpool coach" due to his playing style and philosophy.

Slot, who won the Eredivisie title in 2023 and the KNVB Cup last weekend, is the frontrunner to take charge of Liverpool next season.

- Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (U.S.)

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat against Everton in the Merseyside derby, a loss that has left put a major dent in Liverpool's Premier League title hopes, Van Dijk said that Slot has the credentials to replace Jürgen Klopp at Anfield.

"I find it difficult to answer it now, of course," Van Dijk told Viaplay . "But I think Arne Slot might be one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment.

"I think the way he plays and the philosophy he has that he could be a Liverpool coach. Only in my opinion, what I also read and hear, of course, is that it is far from finalised.

"We will see. Next year we will focus on that."

Sources told ESPN on Wednesday that Liverpool have opened talks with Feyenoord in an attempt to negotiate a deal for the club's head coach Slot.

The 45-year-old has emerged as the leading contender for the Liverpool job following Xabi Alonso's decision to remain at Bayer Leverkusen and a cooling in the Premier League club's interest in Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim.

Slot rejected approaches from Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur last year -- Chelsea also expressed an interest in him -- and chose instead to sign a new three-year contract with the Rotterdam team.

Van Dijk was also outspoken about the performance of his Liverpool teammates against Everton.

"Do they really want to win the league?" Van Dijk said. "If you play like this overall in the game and not win any challenges and give the referee an opportunity to give a free kick away then we have no chance to win the title.

"[I am] very disappointed in so many ways. Everyone has to look in the mirror and look at their own performance and think if they gave everything.

"It is a tough one and obviously we have to do better against a side near the relegation [positions]. If you play like today we have no chance to consider ourselves in the title race."

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Liverpool academy coach Jay Spearing speaks out on club’s pursuit of Feyenoord boss Arne Slot

author image

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot

Liverpool academy coach Jay Spearing is confident Arne Slot would be a great fit for the club, though believes the job of replacing Jurgen Klopp is going to be a ‘difficult role’ for any incoming manager.

Slot, 45, has emerged as the clear frontrunner to take over the reins from Klopp in the summer, with Feyenoord believed to be holding out for a compensation fee of €15million (£12.8m) for their head coach.

Xabi Alonso had initially been identified as Liverpool’s first-choice candidate to take charge on Merseyside but the Spaniard effectively ruled himself out of the running last month as he committed his immediate future to Bayer Leverkusen .

And while Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has been linked in recent weeks, it appears the Reds are going all out for Slot and the Dutchman is said to be eager to push through a move to Anfield ‘at all costs’ .

Virgil van Dijk, speaking after the side’s painful 2-0 defeat at Everton, said he felt Slot had the right ‘philosophy’ and playing style to succeed should the club wrap up a deal for his fellow countryman.

And it appears former Liverpool midfielder Spearing, now a coach with the Under-21 team, agrees with Van Dijk’s verdict of the Feyenoord manager.

‘From what I’ve looked at and from what I’ve heard, Arne Slot is very offensive with his football. He’s on the front foot, aggressive, attacking, but he also looks at himself as a well drilled coach that wants to defend and keep clean sheets,’ Spearing told Stadium Astro .

Liverpool coach Jay Spearing

‘He’s a manager that would maybe suit the Liverpool style, on the front foot, wanting to score goals, wanting to play attractive football, has a certain way of playing the game, but also wants to be a real nut to crack as well.

‘He wants to keep clean sheets, he wants to win things, he’s had a very successful season with Feyenoord.

‘Whoever comes in to follow Jurgen Klopp is going to have a difficult role, but whoever comes in has to go and take the role on, do it his way and hopefully there are successful times ahead for the club.’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp looks on

Spearing feels it is important that Liverpool are able to keep hold of their ‘key players’ as they enter a period of transition in the post-Klopp era.

‘I think it’s a good sign that Liverpool have reappointed Michael Edwards and obviously Richard Hughes as the sporting director ,’ he added.

‘They’re two big appointments and you can see that the club want to sort out the backroom before they go and come forward.

‘Liverpool have known about Jurgen’s decision for such a long time and I don’t think they will be looking now to find a manager. I think things will have been done weeks and months ago. It’s a long process.

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot looks on

‘They knew Jurgen was on his way and when Jurgen leaves it will be an incredible loss but, for the future of the club, there are going to be big decisions on players.

‘Is the manager going to come in and is he going to be happy with the dressing room? Players talk about it, “Should we have him? Should we have him?”, but Arne Slot is a proven manager.

‘He’s shown that he can handle a big club, Feyenoord is a big club in Holland, and fingers crossed whoever comes in can keep key players because Liverpool don’t want to be in that transition mode where we start losing key players as well as Jurgen Klopp.’

Asked whether he has a preference for the manager position, Spearing replied: ‘Do you know what? For me, those big decisions aren’t my decision.

‘I’m with the U21s, working with the young lads, and obviously my decisions are mainly ran by the academy director Alex Inglethorpe, but whoever comes in, it will be an absolute privilege to work under.

‘It’s been an incredible 18 months to two years for me to work under Jurgen Klopp and Pepijn Lijnders. The access that we’ve had to them has been incredible. I’ve loved every single minute of it.

‘But whoever comes in, it will be a new challenge, a fresh challenge, but also a new learning time for me. As well as it being disappointing to see Jurgen leave, it’s a really exciting time for the club, a new start and new way of going forward hopefully.’

The Athletic FC – Slot to fill: Liverpool’s €9m coach bid; Ranking MLS Primary Transfer Window

ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - APRIL 21: Head Coach Arne Slot of Feyenoord with the trophy during the TOTO KNVB Cup final match between Feyenoord and NEC at Stadion Feyenoord on April 21, 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Broer van den Boom/BSR Agency/Getty Images)

Welcome to the job club, as Liverpool hone in on Arne Slot . We’ve reached make-your-mind-up time. Who stays and who goes?

Plus: We look at the winners and losers from MLS’ primary transfer window .

Have Liverpool found Klopp heir?

Yesterday, I wrote about the coaching market getting hot . Twenty-four hours later, the starting gun is all but going off.

In managerial terms, you have three types of clubs out there: clubs who definitely need a new coach (Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Barcelona ), clubs who want to ring-fence their existing coach (more to come on Aston Villa ), and clubs who could soon ditch the coach they already employ (looking at you, Chelsea , after last night’s debacle against Arsenal ).

There’s a debate about whether Jurgen Klopp giving warning of his intention to resign as Liverpool boss has been good or bad for their season — personally, I think recency bias is making it look like more of an issue than it is — but he has at least afforded the club ample time to consider their next move.

The latest name in the frame for Anfield? Arne Slot, the Dutchman who took Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season. Slot is emerging as Liverpool’s preferred choice and the developing news this morning is that they’ve had a €9m ($9.6m; £7.7m) offer rejected by Feyenoord. Talks continue. If they do get their man, I can see why he would fit (see below for an illustration of their playstyle ).

You’ll dislike the word ‘synergy’ as much as me but it’s what elite clubs want: operations connected from top to bottom, joined-up thinking across the board and departments on the same page.

Our writer Adam Crafton got right inside Feyenoord last year . Reading his piece, being on the same page is the thread of their success under Slot. It’s also precisely what Michael Edwards, the man leading Liverpool’s planning for life after Klopp , will strive for at Anfield.

Emery rebuilding Villa

Unai Emery had the unenviable job of replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal in 2018. It didn’t work out and part of you wonders if, in the case of Liverpool, Xabi Alonso heeded a warning about the reality of replacing a legend.

Emery has found his groove at Villa, who are performing better pound-for-pound than any squad in the Premier League this season. We broke the news of his contract extension, now running to 2027, yesterday and again, it’s easy to see why Villa are doubling down on him.

Sensible clubs like managers to be projects. Sensible coaches like a project too. It’s exactly what Villa and Emery have got. Their recruitment is good and in Monchi, their ‘president of football operations’, they’ve put a heavyweight figure behind Emery.

It’s not easy to crack the Premier League’s top four — but this Villa-Emery axis has real legs.

Clearlake, muddy waters for Pochettino?

And so to Chelsea, who are very much the opposite of Villa. All the gear and no idea.

Watching them lose 5-0 to Arsenal last night, the thought occurred that in the days when Roman Abramovich ran the show at Stamford Bridge, Mauricio Pochettino’s coat would be on a shaky peg.

Sacking Pochettino would hardly be a silver bullet for Chelsea’s total lack of coherence, or the issues for owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, but their soft, disorganised football cannot continue indefinitely either.

The depression is getting to everyone. Nicolas Jackson looks like he couldn’t score from an inch out. Chelsea’s Twitter account couldn’t bring itself to name Kai Havertz . Pochettino says Chelsea are more than Cole Palmer , but Palmer is the only particularly good thing about them .

Some appointments are destined for happy endings. You’d be amazed if this is one of them.

Arsenal’s high five

A happy ending for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta is nothing less than a major trophy — specifically, the Premier League title.

Beating Chelsea was like punching through soggy cardboard but Arsenal were merciless. Some of their passing, Martin Odegaard’s especially , was brilliant.

Art de Roche has written about the midfield presence of Thomas Partey and how his muscle allowed Arsenal to run riot. More broadly, the piece made me consider the levels of high performance in Arteta’s squad.

Chelsea have crumbled 😳 Ben White bags a 5⃣th for Arsenal 🔥 📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/ZwWQOrlsbk — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) April 23, 2024

(Readers outside of the UK, can see White’s goal here )

How would you pick a standout player of the year? The candidates are endless. Even Ben White has a shout. As Chelsea melted like human ice cream, White banked two goals from right-back, the second of which (above) was a corking volley/shanked cross.

If Manchester City win their remaining six games — they are four points behind Arsenal with two games in hand — the title stays at the Etihad Stadium. All Arsenal can do, and Liverpool too (three points off top spot having played a match less), is give City no margin for error.

The bonus for Arsenal of routing Chelsea last night? If top spot comes down to goal difference (they are 12 ahead of City), it’s going their way.

MLS Moves Marked ✅

MLS’ primary transfer window closed last night. Its secondary window opens on July 18 but for now, doors and wallets are shut.

Tom Bogert and Jeff Rueter dug so deep into this that they hit the mantle layer . My main takeaways from their excellent analysis:

💪 LA Galaxy flexed their biceps — Joseph Paintsil is a quality capture

👀 Federico Redondo choosing Inter Miami over Europe is no small deal

🔥 He’s 37, but Luis Suarez hasn’t lost it

🤓 Minnesota United did their homework on head coach Eric Ramsay

This season’s primary challenge still stands, though. Stop Lionel Messi.

Decline or evolution for Salah?

Mo Salah has been the ace up Jurgen Klopp’s sleeve for longer than Liverpool can remember. He’s got that super-human streak — like, positive inevitability.

Or he had until this season. In defence of what some see as Salah’s diminishing impact, it should be remembered that Klopp has reinvented Liverpool slightly , prompting a change to Salah’s role. We’re still talking about a 17-goal, nine-assist Premier League campaign from him, in spite of time off with a hamstring injury.

But it did not go unnoticed that Klopp went without Salah in his line-up for last Sunday’s trip to Fulham, a game Liverpool had to win. Historically, Salah’s place would not have been remotely up for debate when the chips were down.

So, Mark Carey asks, is he declining ? Or is he just changing? He no longer beats a man so reliably but his creativity has risen markedly. It’s a nuanced discussion.

coach tours to liverpool

There’s another angle to consider too. Liverpool resisted big money from Saudi Arabia for Salah last summer. On the basis of his season and with Klopp about to depart, would they be more tempted this time?

  • Klopp could recall Salah for tonight’s mega Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.  Everton v Liverpool (3pm ET/8pm UK).  Premier League. Peacock Premium, Sky Sports Main Event.

Around The Athletic FC

  • Some of the competitions created by major governing bodies often might seem pointless, entirely about money or both. UEFA’s Youth League, in contrast , is hitting the spot big time for academy players.
  • Leeds United ’s Elland Road stadium is rough, ready and miles behind the times. I love it. But state of the art grounds are all the rage, and also extremely lucrative. Which do you prefer?
