MORRIS CRUISE NIGHT INFO

ALL car owners are invited to participate. There are no pre-registration or car “qualifications.”

A charitable donation/registration fee of $10.00 CASH per vehicle is required at entry.

The official event hours are advertised from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Morris Cruise Night staff begins parking as early as 3 p.m. on cruise nights.

Cars must enter off N Division Street on E Washington Street; directional signage will be present.

Only Morris Cruise Night cars who have paid the donation/registration fee are permitted to park on Liberty Street and surrounding streets designated for Morris Cruise Night.

Please note there are no rain dates.

No outside vendors are allowed. 

Cars parked on Liberty and surrounding streets without proper registration stickers will be ticketed by the Morris Police Department.

No moving of roadblocks are allowed.

No alcohol is allowed.

No pets are allowed (as per City Ordinance)

No political campaigning is allowed.

Spectators are encouraged to enjoy the many restaurants and shops during Morris Cruise Nights.

Event Location

Located between West Washington Street and West Benton Street along Liberty Street in Downtown Morris.  Our venue now includes not only Liberty Street (from Illinois Avenue north to the railroad tracks) but a blo ck East and West.

Downtown Morris will be home to all kinds of different show cars at 6 p.m. Saturday night, from newer models to the classics, for the first Morris Cruise Night event of the season.

Founder Herb Wyeth said he expects this year to be much of the same as it has been for the last 20 years, with cars filling Liberty Street while they raise money for the Morris Police Benevolence Society.

“I’m really thinking we’re gonna end up with a big turnout as far as cars,” Wyeth said. “Just from talking to people, they’re all trying to get here and I’m getting a lot of emails asking to save positions. That’s going to be a challenge.”

That’s good news for Morris Cruise Night, which has grown since it started 20 years ago. The event has raised over $600,000 for various non-profits and charities .n the time since it started.

50/50 raffle tickets benefitting the Morris Police Benevolent Society will cost $1 each, or six for $5. No pre-registration is necessary, and cars must enter Washington Street from Route 47 to pay the $10 entry fee. Registration forms will be in a bag.

This event is free to attend.

Morris Cruise Night also issued a reminder that there is no street parking in downtown Morris from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during Cruise Nights. Parking on Liberty Street and one block east and west of it are reserved for people showing their cars.

Fourteen years ago, Herb Wyeth gathered friends to propose a fun, non-profit event to benefit the community. Since then, Morris Cruise Nights has developed into one of the largest celebrations of car collectors in Illinois.

“Everyone can remember the car they had when they were younger, or the car their dad had,” Wyeth said.

Muscle cars and collector cars, as well as newer sports cars line up on Main Street in downtown Morris, which is located 60 miles southwest of Chicago in Grundy County. No Wyeth has counted over 100 cities from eight states represented at the events over the years.

In preparation for the summer, Wyeth has a database of 4,600 people to which he sends a postcard with a photo to reflect the harsh winter season and remind car lovers of the brief driving season. This year, the photo featured a massive pile of snow blocking the entrance to the cruise night.

Vendors must go through Wyeth in order to advertise or sell products at the event. He has denied big-name companies like Budweiser to lend more space for downtown businesses to benefit.

“The day we’re running the show for someone else, I’m out,” Wyeth said.

There are no rain dates to avoid inconveniencing volunteers and community attendees.

For all fourteen years, Morris Cruise Nights have been held on Saturdays on the second week of the month. They extended from the summer into October to connect with a Lion Club event, maximizing attendance and bringing even more business to downtown Morris.

No alcohol is allowed and the proceeds from the $10 entry fee for registered vehicles are split between the winning car and charitable organizations. Some to Wyeth’s Alma Mater, Grundy Area Vocational Center, to benefit students who desire to build a career working with their hands. Some is donated to the Golden Wrench Scholarship, which Morris Cruise Night provides to students interested in automotive technology. All beneficiaries require an extensive approval process, where Wyeth and his team sort through applications, perform interviews and vote on possible charities.
