The Museo Dabawenyo, or also known as the Museum of the People of Davao, is one of the most known museums in the country. This building is formally known as the Court of First Instance and was restored and rehabilitated to showcase the diverse cultural heritage and the rich history of the city.

Within the museum, visitors can see stilt house replicas, weapons, and musical instruments used by indigenous people. The Dabawenyo Museum is located on Fr. Salga Road, which is on Pichon Avenue, only a few meters from the Bonifacio Rotunda and the Osmeña Park. It is accessible from 9 AM to 12 NN from Tuesday to Sunday and from 1 PM to 6 PM on Mondays.

You should add Governor Generoso area to your list of areas near Davao. Its truly an amazing place and not well known, other than people in Davao. So it doesn’t get as many people as all the popular spots in the Philippines.

Our first stop is the oldest church in Davao, San Pedro Cathedral.

This church was built in 1847. It will take you back to history because this place also became an important place during the Spanish era. It served as the ecclesial seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Davao. The structure of this church is based on neo-Gothic style.Not a typical catholic church that we usually saw in our town. The Davao Bamboo Sanctuary is a 3.5-hectare green forest and home to twenty-six (26) varieties of bamboos including Thai and Japanese bamboo, Buddah’s Belly bamboo, dwarf bamboo and more. Davao Bamboo Sanctuary is also a home to different types of trees and wildflowers. The entire park is also filled with ornamental plants that are mostly strewn in its pathways. One of the trademark structures of DBS is its huge steel dome located in the center of the whole park. Vines can be seen to creep all over the structure and its aerial roots hang on the air.

Laze on its beaches and swim in its clear waters. Go to Hagimit Falls to get a water massage under one of its cascades or douse the heat by going for a swim. Climb Mt. Puting Bato for bird’s eye views of the island. Go see some bats at the Monfort Bat Cave or enjoy the slide at Maxima Aquafun Resort. These are only some of the things you can do on the island.

Locals flock to this street sale to buy local goods for less and to enjoy all sorts of Filipino food .  The market opens at 5 PM and not for long, you’ll begin to smell all the BBQ and other delicacies being cooked here.

Because many of the delicacies offered here are quite strange for foreigners, it’s great to visit this market with a local so you’d know what you’re eating. Everything is cheap (especially for Westerners) and it’s a great place to mingle with Davaoeños.

Little Boracay

Situated in the small barangay of Sto. Niño along its coastline is the famous Little Boracay Beach Resort, where the hidden and unspoiled white sand beaches lie. Sleeping Dragon Island

While Davao Oriental is known for its Sleeping Dinosaur Island, Davao Occidental has its own Sleeping Dragon Island. Found in Sta. Maria, the island, is named after the mythical creature thanks to its dragon-like appearance. From a particular angle, the mountains can look like the body of a dragon, with some of its body parts touching the azure waters of the sea.

Sabang Hot Spring

An hour from Olanivan Island, along the northern coast of Balut Island, just 30 minutes from the town center, is the famous Sabang Hot Spring, where the crystal waters of the pools can boil up to 80°C. While the pools are unfitting for swimming, the hot spring is a relaxing place for a calming soak.

Bolae Cove is a quiet inlet in Saranggani with a calm beach backed by a dense forest of coconut trees that protects the area from strong winds. The tranquil and clear waters of the beach are perfect for those looking to swim and snorkel or to simply watch as the sun rises along the horizon.

Tuke Nonsul

Tuke Nonsul is an underwater paradise, a haven for snorkelers who wish to see the thriving and colorful colony of corals there. The nearby islands may not be blessed with a sandy beach, but its rock formations make up for an excellent spelunking adventure.

Captain’s Lake

A small resort with a gorgeous man-made lake backed by a coconut plantation, Captain’s Lake has served the locals as a quick getaway destination with recreation activities like fishing and swimming. Guests can choose to fish for lunch or order an in-house meal. Karaoke machines and cottages with breathtaking sea views are available for rent. Close to the resort is a small pocket of beach that guests can venture to.

Lapuan Cold Spring

Tucked within Barangay Lapuan, the quiet and peaceful Lapuan Cold Springs is where several locals go for a much-needed refreshing break. James Flower Garden

James Flower Garden is located in Barangay San Isidro, a quiet tourist attraction flocked by local visitors looking to unwind and relax. The tourist spot has several picture-worthy backdrops, an umbrella-covered path, dozens of different kinds of plants to see, and a small animal enclosure.

How to Get There

To get to Davao Occidental, visitors can take a flight to Francisco Bangoy International Airport, also known as Davao International Airport, from any major city such as Manila, Clark, and Cebu. It is the main airport in Davao City and the whole Davao Region.

Visitors can take a taxi from the airport to any point in Davao City or Ecoland Bus Terminal. There is no direct bus from the airport. The best way to get around Davao Occidental is by jeepney and, for ease and convenience, by rented vehicle.

1. sleeping dragons.

If Davao Oriental is known for its sleeping dinosaur, Davao Occidental has its version of a mountain resembling a fiery creature. They call it the Sleeping Dragon.

From a certain viewpoint, the mountains do look like green dragons resting with their heads and parts of their bodies touching the water. Adding to the scenic view are the pristine beaches with azure blue waters.

2. Mt Kiyawa

Mt Kiyawa is among the top hiking destinations in Davao Occidental. Locals love day hiking here to catch a 360-degree view of the towns and landscapes of the municipality.

From the top, one can also see Malalag Bay and its mountain ranges. Mt Kiyawa rises to more than 400 meters above sea level.

3. Balut Island

7. Kepiya Falls

Kepiya Falls is one of the least known Davao Occidental tourist spots. It measures around 20 feet high with a charming catch basin. Its chilly waters can give you instant relief from stress. Lush forests surround the waterfalls. If you’re done chasing it, there’s a nearby white beach where you can also have a relaxing swim.
