Dodge Journey battery light is on – causes and how to reset

Dodge Journey

When the red battery light illuminates on the dashboard of a Dodge Journey, it indicates a malfunction in the charging system. In this article, we will explore the various reasons that can lead to this issue.

Table of Contents

Faulty Alternator of Dodge Journey

The most frequent cause of the battery light coming on in a Dodge Journey is a faulty alternator. The alternator plays a crucial role in converting mechanical energy from the engine into electricity, which not only powers all the onboard accessories but also charges the battery. If the alternator develops a fault and ceases to generate electricity, the entire electrical load of the vehicle shifts to the battery.

Consequently, the battery quickly drains as it no longer receives a charge from the alternator. Typically, alternators last for over 100,000 miles, but they can fail unexpectedly. Before considering alternator replacement, it is important to eliminate other potential causes that might impede or disrupt the current flow from the alternator, such as a bad electrical connection or damaged wire.

In addition to a faulty alternator, there are several other factors that can trigger the battery light to come on. These include a damaged wire, corrosion on electrical connectors, corrosion on battery terminals, a bad ground connection, or a slipping serpentine belt. It’s essential to consider these possibilities as well when diagnosing the red battery light issue in a Dodge Journey.

How to test the alternator

Here’s a revised version of the instructions on how to test the alternator:

To test the alternator, you can follow these simple steps and measure the voltage at the battery terminals while the engine is running:

  • Start your Dodge Journey.
  • Connect the black cable of a multimeter to the negative terminal of the battery, and the red cable to the positive terminal.
  • With the engine running, observe the voltage reading on the multimeter.
  • The voltage should fall within the range of 13.5 to 14.8 volts.
  • Next, switch on various accessories in your Journey, such as headlights, the AC fan at full speed, and interior lights.
  • The voltage reading should remain around 14 volts even with the accessories on. If it drops and consistently stays below 13.5 volts, it indicates a problem with the current supply from the alternator.
  • If the voltage drops below 12 volts while the engine is running and the accessories are turned on, it suggests that the current supply from the alternator has been completely cut off, and all the electronics are solely powered by the battery.

By following these steps and observing the voltage readings, you can get a better idea of the performance and functionality of the alternator in your Dodge Journey.

Revised Version

While it is possible to drive your Dodge Journey with a faulty alternator, it is important to note that you can only do so for a limited distance. When the alternator is not functioning correctly, the battery becomes the sole source of power for all the onboard electronic controllers and accessories.

As you drive, the battery charge will gradually deplete. Eventually, when the battery charge reaches a critically low level, the engine will shut down, and you will find yourself stranded. Therefore, it is crucial to exercise caution and avoid driving a Journey with a bad alternator for an extended period, as it may lead to unexpected breakdowns or an inability to restart the vehicle. It is recommended to address the alternator issue promptly to avoid any inconvenience or potential safety risks.

Understanding Ground Connections

In a Dodge Journey, a ground connection refers to the connection between the negative terminal of the battery and the body/chassis of the vehicle. The engine also requires a ground connection to operate properly.

However, due to the non-conductive rubber-insulated engine mounts, the engine’s mounting system prevents the flow of electric current between the engine and the body. To establish an effective ground connection, a ground strap or wire is utilized to connect the engine and the chassis.

What happens when the ground connection goes bad?

When the ground connection of the chassis or engine in your Dodge Journey becomes compromised due to rust or corrosion, it can lead to various electrical problems, including the illumination of the battery light on the dashboard.

The proper functioning of the alternator relies on a solid ground connection from the engine. When the ground connection is faulty, it can result in a reduced or fluctuating current supply from the alternator. In rare instances, corrosion can also affect the contact between the engine block and the alternator, causing further issues.

How to Verify the Quality of the Ground Connection:

To ensure the integrity of the ground connection in your Dodge Journey, follow these steps to conduct a conductivity test:

  • Prepare a multimeter and set it to the ohms (Ω) symbol.
  • Take one probe of the multimeter and touch it to the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Take the other probe and touch it to any exposed metal part of the engine.
  • The multimeter should display a reading close to zero ohms, indicating a good ground connection. Repeat the same test between the negative terminal of the battery and an exposed metal part of the alternator.

Inspecting and Cleaning the Ground Connections:

If the conductivity test yields an unfavorable result, it’s essential to inspect the condition of the ground connections in your Dodge Journey. Follow these steps:

  • Inspect the connectors of the ground cables, such as the battery-to-body and body-to-engine connections, for any signs of rust or corrosion.
  • Use sandpaper or a wire brush to clean the contacts thoroughly.
  • In some cases, you may need to remove the alternator to access and clean the ground contact areas on both the alternator and the engine block.

By performing these tests and inspections, and cleaning the ground connections if necessary, you can ensure a reliable ground connection in your Dodge Journey, helping to resolve any electrical issues and maintain proper functionality.

Inadequate Battery Connection:

In some cases, the alternator in your Dodge Journey may be functioning properly, but the flow of current is disrupted due to a loose electrical connection, damaged wire, or corrosion on the battery terminals.

Corrosion on Battery Terminals:

Battery corrosion is a relatively common issue, particularly in batteries that are over two years old (excluding AGM batteries). Corrosion occurs when battery acid reacts with the metal terminals, resulting in a loss of contact and reduced current flow. Inadequate current flow can prevent proper battery charging and may lead to engine starting problems.

Checking Battery Terminals:

To determine if your charging system issues in the Journey are caused by dirty battery terminals, you need to inspect them. Lift the plastic covers over the terminals and look for any signs of corrosion.

If you notice white or silvery-green deposits without any further cracks or damage, you may not need to replace the battery or the alternator; simply cleaning the battery terminals may suffice.

Cleaning the Battery Terminals:

There are two methods you can use to clean the battery terminals in your Dodge Journey:

Quick Cleaning: A simple trick for swiftly cleaning corrosion on the battery terminals is to pour hot boiling water over them. The heat will cause the corrosion to melt away. Clean one terminal at a time and ensure that water does not puddle on the top of the battery or touch both terminals simultaneously to avoid shorting the battery.

Thorough Cleaning: For a more thorough cleaning, follow these steps:

  • Disconnect the terminal cables from the battery. Start by removing the black cable from the negative terminal using a wrench or pliers. Then, disconnect the red positive terminal cable. Take care not to let your metal tool touch both terminals simultaneously, as this can result in damage.
  • Once the battery is disconnected, you can begin cleaning the corroded areas using sandpaper or a wire brush.
  • After cleaning, reconnect the cables in reverse order—positive first, then negative—ensuring they are securely attached.

By checking and cleaning the battery terminals in your Dodge Journey, you can address any issues caused by poor battery connections and help maintain a proper flow of current within the charging system.

Slipping Serpentine Belt

The serpentine belt, also known as the accessory belt or drive belt, plays a crucial role in transferring power from the engine to various components, including the alternator and AC compressor, which are essential for the normal operation of your Dodge Journey.

If the serpentine belt becomes damaged, loose, or if there is a defect in the alternator pulley, it can result in belt slippage. This, in turn, can cause the alternator to spin at a slower or inconsistent speed, leading to a degradation in electricity production. When the onboard diagnostic system detects low voltage from the alternator, the battery symbol light will illuminate in the Journey’s instrument cluster.

Symptoms of a Bad Serpentine Belt

The most common indication of a faulty serpentine belt in a Journey is a squealing noise originating from the engine compartment. Visible cracks on the ribbed part of the belt are another prominent sign to watch for. Additionally, a slipping accessory belt can emit a burning smell.

If the serpentine belt is found to be defective, it must be replaced. However, it’s important to note that a slipping belt is not always indicative of a defective belt itself. Belt slippage can occur due to various factors, such as a faulty tensioner pulley or any other pulley in the system. Therefore, a thorough inspection is necessary to identify the root cause of the belt slippage.

Rodent Damage

If rodents such as rats, mice, or squirrels have chewed through the cables for the alternator in your Dodge Journey, it can trigger the illumination of the battery light. Inspect the engine compartment for any signs of bite marks, and carefully examine all the cables connected to the alternator. If any cable is found to be damaged, it should be replaced with a new one to restore proper functionality.

Dodge Journey Battery Light On? 6 Reasons + How to Reset

You know how it feels when the battery light pops up on your Dodge Journey’s dashboard. While this light helps you easily determine the underlying problem, it also means various parts need fixing or repairing. But worry not because we’ll help you address this issue.

Generally, the Dodge Journey battery light will appear on the dash to indicate issues with the charging system. But what causes the Journey’s charging system to malfunction?

Herein, I discuss the reasons for the Dodge Journey battery light on and ways to address them. You’ll also discover how to reset the battery light to keep your car running smoothly.

Reasons for Dodge Journey Battery Light Turning On

The battery light can appear on the dash while starting or driving your Dodge Journey. This happens when the ECM detects a drop in voltage below a certain threshold. You might notice that your vehicle struggles to start or shuts down after driving for a while.

So, why does the Dodge Journey battery light turn on, and what can you do?

Failed Alternator

The alternator is critical to your Dodge Journey’s battery health. It picks mechanical energy from the drive belt and converts it into electricity. Some electricity charges your car’s battery while the rest powers the onboard electrical system.

If your vehicle has a failed alternator, there’ll be no electricity to charge the battery or power the electrical components. The onboard electrical system will solely rely on the battery to function. As a result, the battery will drain quickly and cause the car to shut down.

The battery light will appear on the dash when the onboard computer detects a voltage drop. It’s best to test the alternator to see if it’s the culprit.

There are two ways you can test for a bad alternator.

First, start your car and leave it running for about five minutes. Then, disconnect the battery’s negative terminal. If the engine shuts off after disconnecting the terminal, the alternator might be faulty.

But to ascertain that the alternator is bad, use a multimeter to test for voltage. When the engine is running, a functional alternator should produce a voltage ranging from 13.5 to 14.8. However, if the voltage is below 13.5, you have a defective alternator that needs replacing.

Bad Battery

A worn-out or old battery is another potential cause for the Dodge Journey battery light on . A normal 12V auto battery will last 3-5 years. If the battery loses its ability to charge or hold power, it might have outlived its lifespan.

Car batteries feature lead plates and cells submerged in sulfuric acid. Over time, these plates and cells break down, causing the battery to fail to charge or hold power. A bad battery will cause the battery light on the dash to turn on.

You can test your Journey’s battery with a multimeter to know if it’s bad. If the voltage is below 12V, your battery could be bad.

You’ll usually notice a dead or bad battery when starting the engine. The battery might be defective if the engine is hard to start or fails to start. You can resolve this problem by replacing the battery.

Corroded Battery Terminals

Battery terminals allow power from the alternator to get into the battery. If the terminals have acid buildup, they won’t allow the battery to charge appropriately. The acid reacts with the terminals, resulting in corrosion.

Corroded terminals cause a loss of contact between the cables and the terminals. As a result, the current from the alternator reduces, and the battery fails to charge. Low voltage in the battery will cause the Dodge Journey battery light to illuminate on the dash.

Examine the terminals to check for signs of corrosion. You can clean the terminals with boiling water to remove the corrosion. Alternatively, use a wire brush or sandpaper to scrub away the corrosion.

Loose or Damaged Battery Cables

The Dodge Journey battery cables should fit tightly around the terminals to create a good connection. When the connection is tight, power will flow smoothly from the alternator to charge the battery.

But over time, these cable connections get loose and distort power flow to the battery. Rodents can also chew and damage the cables, preventing the battery from charging.

Loose or damaged battery cables make it hard for the battery to run at full capacity. The Dodge Journey battery light will turn on to indicate an issue with the charging system.

Examine the battery cable connections to see if they’re loose. Loose connections will rotate freely around the terminals. You can tighten the loose cable connections with pliers or a wrench. Then, inspect the cables for any sign of damage and replace them if necessary.

Bad Ground Connection

The ground wire/strap and connection complete the circuits of various components in your Dodge Journey. The wire connects the battery’s negative terminal to your vehicle’s chassis. If the wire and the connection are okay, electricity will flow smoothly around the car.

Unfortunately, the ground connection can go bad over time due to corrosion. This issue triggers several electrical problems, including the alternator not charging the battery. A malfunctioning alternator will eventually result in the Dodge Journey battery light on the dash.

A wire brush or sandpaper will help you remove the corrosion on the ground wire contacts. You may also need to replace a damaged or broken ground strap.

Bad Serpentine Belt

The serpentine/drive belt powers your Dodge Journey’s alternator and the AC compressor. If you have a loose, damaged, or missing serpentine belt, the alternator won’t receive power to charge the battery. The onboard computer will detect a charging problem and trigger the battery light.

A damaged drive belt can make a squealing noise while the engine runs. You might also see cracks on the belt or notice a burning smell. Replacing a damaged or missing serpentine belt will help solve this issue. If the belt appears loose, adjust the tensioner pulley to tighten it.

How To Reset Battery Light On Dodge Journey

Before resetting the Dodge Journey battery light, ensure you’ve solved the underlying problem. Failure to do this will cause the light to reappear after the reset. Solving the underlying issue should make the light disappear automatically.

If the light remains on the dash, drive your Journey for a few miles, and the light will disappear. If it doesn’t disappear, disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes.

Then, turn on the headlights and push the horn button several times. This will help drain any residual power from the car’s electrical components.

Allow the Dodge Journey to rest for 15-20 minutes before reconnecting the battery. This process will help reset the battery light.

Alternatively, you can use an OBDII scanner to clear the error codes causing the light to appear on the dash. Connect your diagnostic tool and erase all the codes related to your vehicle’s charging system.

Dodge Journey battery light

Wrapping Up

Issues with the charging system can trigger the Dodge Journey battery light on . If this light appears on your vehicle’s dash, inspect the battery, alternator, ground connection, and serpentine belt for defects. You may also need to reset the battery light if it fails to disappear after fixing the problem.

Dodge Journey Check Engine Light On: Why and What to Do

The check engine is the most common warning light that appears in the Dodge Journey’s instrument cluster.  Well over half of this site’s content is related to solving the various reasons why the check engine light comes on.

Dodge Journey Check Engine Light

The good news is that the check engine light indicates that there are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in your Journey’s computer , which is a very good thing.  DTC’s really help save time determining what is wrong with your vehicle.

Dodge Journey Check Engine Light On

The check engine light is often referred to as the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or Service Engine Soon light.  All three terms are 100% interchangeable.

How to Reset the Check Engine Light

Common questions, what are trouble codes.

Pulling Trouble Codes

Trouble codes are a number sequence of letters and numbers that correspond with a standardized list of problems that can occur in any vehicle, including the Dodge Journey . Some of them are Dodge specific, while most have the same meaning no matter who made the vehicle.

Common OBD II Codes

The most common of all trouble codes is P0420 (it indicates your Dodge Journey’s catalytic converter isn’t scrubbing pollutants efficiently).

Here are some of the other most common codes:

  • P0442 – Small EVAP leak (most commonly fixed by tightening a loose gas cap or replacing it)
  • P0300 – Random misfire (bad ignition coil(s), spark plugs, or spark plug wires).
  • P0128 – Engine running too cool (almost always caused by a thermostat that’s stuck open)
  • P0172 – Air Fuel mixture too rich (there are many causes, including oxygen sensors, leaking injectors, or too much fuel pressure)

The most common codes are related to the emissions system .  Some of them are as easy to fix as replacing your Journey’s.  Others require serious diagnostic tests from a repair shop.

How to Pull Trouble Codes on the Dodge Journey

How to pull trouble codes from the dodge journey

You can either pull the trouble codes from your Journey’s PCM (Powertrain Control Module) yourself, or you can bring your vehicle to a parts store or shop to have it scanned.

Pull Them Yourself

You can put a scan tool into the OBD II port and pull codes out of the diagnostic system yourself.  Any vehicle made for the 1996 model year and up uses the same protocol.

You can usually find the OBD II port underneath the Journey’s steering wheel. The exact location of the port is going to depend on what model year you have. If you don’t see it check the owner’s manual or do a quick google image search.

Once your scanner is online, you can pull the codes. You should see a retrieve codes option.

Take Your Carortruck to a Shop or Parts Store

dodge journey battery light comes on

If you don’t have a scan tool, you can take your Journey to the local parts store.  Most of them are happy to pull the codes for you for free .

A lot of auto shops also offer free scan service, but you may find pressured into authorizing whatever repairs they suggest on the spot.

Once you have the codes in hand, you can look them up and determine what’s wrong with your Journey.

There are three ways to reset the Dodge Journey’s check engine light.  We recommend trying to identify the problem and fixing it before resetting the check engine light.

1. Fix and Wait

The best way to clear the check engine light is to pull the trouble code, identify and fix the issue and then drive your Journey around until the module that threw the code recognizes that the problem is fixed.

Sometimes it can take a few drive cycles for your vehicle’s check engine light to shut down.  Other times, it’ll happen as soon as you fire the vehicle up.  Some folks prefer to clear the code and see if it comes back on

2. Use an OBDII Scanner

You can use an OBDII scanner to turn off your Journey’s check engine light.  The catch is, that if you don’t fix the problem, the light will turn on again.

This is done by connecting a scan tool to your Journey’s PCM and choosing the “clear codes” option.

Once you’ve identified and fixed the issue, wait for three or four days of normal driving to see if the Check Engine Light turns back on.

If it does not come back on after this period, then you can assume that your Dodge Journey is fixed and the light won’t be turning back on.

3. Disconnect the Battery

If you’ve identified and fixed the issue that caused your Journey’s Check Engine Light to come on, resetting the light is as simple as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. This can be done by unhooking both cables from the battery terminals (negative cable first) and waiting 30 seconds before reconnecting them.

Once the battery is reconnected, your Check Engine Light should be reset and should no longer be illuminated. If the light does come back on again after you reset it, then it means that the issue has not been properly fixed and needs further attention.

Will a Vehicle Fail Inspection With the Check Engine Light On

If you are looking to get your Dodge Journey through emissions and the check engine light is on, it is an automatic fail in almost every State in the Union.  It doesn’t matter why the check engine light is on, it only matters that a code is stored.

Here’s a list of the emissions regulations of each State .

You can’t reset a check engine light to circumvent emissions requirements.  When you reconnect the battery, the OBD II system is going to need several drive cycles to qualify to take an emissions test, which will give it enough time to recognize the issue.

Can You Drive With the Check Engine Light On?

Whether you can drive your Journey with the check engine light on depends on the code(s) that triggered the check engine light.

You certainly can’t drive the Dodge Journey with the check engine light flashing.   A flashing check engine light indicates that there is a serious problem with the engine.

Why is My Check Engine Light Flashing?

A flashing Check Engine Light typically indicates a serious issue with your Journey and should not be ignored.  It usually indicates a catastrophic misfire that can dump raw fuel into the exhaust system, which can damage the catalytic converter and cause backfiring.  Do not drive your vehicle with a flashing check engine light .

Dodge Journey ABS light is on – causes and how to reset

The ABS, short for anti-lock braking system, is a safety feature in Dodge Journey which prevents the wheels from locking up during braking. This makes it possible to maintain steerability and directional stability even when braking hard, allowing the driver to avoid obstacles. If the ABS light illuminates in the instrument cluster of Journey, it means the anti-lock braking system has malfunctioned.

Dodge Journey

The ABS light comes on in the dashboard of Dodge Journey when one or more of the wheel speed sensors have malfunctioned, brake fluid is too low, the fuse is blown or the relay is bad, tire pressure is low, or if the ABS module has developed a defect.

1. Bad wheel speed sensor

Dodge Journey has an ABS sensor at each wheel hub which measures the speed of the respective wheel and transmits the information to the ABS control unit. If a sensor develops a defect and sends inaccurate or no speed information, the ABS light illuminates in the instrument cluster.

dodge journey battery light comes on

Bad wheel speed sensor is one of the leading causes of ABS warning light in Journey, as they are exposed to harsh conditions due to their close proximity to the wheels.

How to check ABS sensor

It isn’t usually possible to identify the faulty ABS sensor in Journey by physical inspection. The only most reliable method of diagnosing an ABS speed sensor is by connecting an OBDII scanner to your vehicle and reading out the error codes. The error code also makes it easy to determine which sensor is affected. The faulty sensor must be replaced to resolve the issue. Note: Make sure the code reader you are using can read your vehicle’s ABS codes. Not all readers can.

Damaged speed sensor wire, or bad connector

It is possible the sensor is functioning properly in your Journey, but the signal is interrupted due to damaged wire or corroded connector. Before replacing the sensor, the wiring and connectors of the affected sensor should be physically inspected for any signs of damage or corrosion.

2. Low brake fluid

Excessively low level of brake fluid can trigger ABS light in Journey. Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir, the level should sit near the high marking on the reservoir.

Causes of low brake fluid

In case the brake fluid level is low, topping it off should turn off the ABS warning light in Journey. But it is important to further investigate the reason for low brake fluid level. The three common causes of low brake fluid are worn brake pads, worn rotors, and a leak in the system. Check the condition of the brake pads and rotors, also see if there is any sign of fluid leak under your vehicle and on the wheel hubs.

3. Bad ABS pump or control module

The ABS pump, also called Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), consists of an electronic and a mechanical-hydraulic part. When you brake hard at high speed and the wheels lock, the hydraulic part of the unit actuates the valves to reduce hydraulic pressure to the brake at the affected wheels. A malfunction in the ABS pump can cause the ABS light to illuminate in Journey, and a fault code is stored in the memory. Connect a diagnostic device to your vehicle to read the code.

4. Low tire pressure

Low tire pressure in one of the wheels of Dodge Journey can cause the ABS light to turn on. The diameter of the wheel is reduced when its tire is underinflated, this causes the wheel to spin faster than other wheels in the vehicle. When the speed difference between the wheels is detected by the control module, an ABS fault code is triggered for the speed sensor of the wheel with low tire pressure.

5. Blown fuse or bad relay

A blown fuse or bad relay can cause the ABS system to stop functioning. Check the owners manual of your vehicle or the fuse box cover to find the exact location of the fuse for the ABS system. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new one with the specified amp rating.

Is it safe to drive with ABS light on?

When the ABS light illuminates in the instrument cluster of Journey, the ABS system is disabled and the braking system acts like older traditional braking system. The braking pressure from the master cylinder to the brake calipers is undiminished. What this means is, you can brake normally with moderate braking in dry conditions. But in case of wet or snowy conditions, or when braking hard, you may lose steerability of the vehicle. Therefore, when the ABS light is on, drive with extreme caution and fix the issue as soon as possible.

How to reset the ABS light

Fix the issue.

Resetting the ABS light in Journey without solving the underlying issue may not help, as the warning light will turn back on when the system again detects the fault. The light should disappear automatically after fixing the issue. If it doesn’t turn off immediately, driving your vehicle for a few miles should help.

OBDII scanner method

The proper way to reset the ABS light in Journey is by clearing the codes with an OBDII scanner. If the warning light doesn’t turn off automatically after fixing the issue, you will have to do it manually by connecting a diagnostic device and then deleting all the error codes related to the ABS system.

dodge journey battery light comes on

Disconnect the battery

If you don’t have a diagnostic device, it may be possible to reset the ABS light in Journey by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery first, then from the positive terminal. With the battery disconnected, press the horn button a few times and turn on the headlights to drain out all the residual electricity from the system. After about 15 minutes, reconnect the battery in reverse order: positive cable first, then negative cable.

Use OBD2 scanner for diagnosis

Since Dodge Journey is equipped with on-board diagnostics (OBD), a fault diagnosis can provide initial indications of where the malfunction is located.

dodge journey battery light comes on

To begin troubleshooting, you must first connect the diagnostic tool to your Journey. The OBDII connector is usually located under the dashboard. With the tool connected, turn on the ignition. Most diagnostic devices then ask for some information about the vehicle. It is important that you enter this 100% correctly, otherwise the result of the search may be inaccurate. In addition to the vehicle make, model, and engine type, you usually also have to type in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Since some OBD codes are manufacturer-specific, the scanner will be able to give you more accurate information if you enter more details about your Journey.

There are many reasons why the ABS light is turned on in your Dodge Journey. To pinpoint the cause, you must use a diagnostic tool and scan for codes. For example, if one of the speed sensors has failed, the scanner will tell you exactly which wheel sensor is causing the problem.

In any case, it is advisable for laypersons to visit a workshop. A professional mechanic can swiftly diagnose the ABS issue for you.

I have a 2013 Journey in Australia. I have the ABS, brake and and traction control lights on whenever the car is ‘on’. Cruise control also does not work. I took it to two shops and they both ran their scanners and said the ABS module need to be replaced. I went to a wrecker and they had four units available but asked for a photograph of the label on my unit. When I gave it to them, they said theirs were not compatible with my car as the unit had to be ‘matched’. I have no idea what that means and buying a replacement here is horrendously expensive. I’d be most grateful for any advice you could impart. Thanks muchly Charlton 🙂

Ben

Buying used ABS module is tricky, it has to be matched, programmed and calibrated. Sometimes even if you think it its a match, it isn’t.

Charlton

Unfortunately the cost of a new one is prohibitive for my budget. 😭

Russia's Nuclear Deterrent Command Center Imperiled by Winter Freeze—Report

A Russian nuclear deterrent command center in Moscow has been imperiled by power outages that have impacted more than one-quarter of the region's cities amid freezing temperatures, a Russian Telegram channel has reported.

The VChK-OGPU outlet, which purports to have inside information from Russian security forces, reported that the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings—part of the Russian Space Forces, a branch of the country's Aerospace Forces—near Solnechnogorsk in Moscow is without power.

It serves as the space forces early warning network against potential ballistic missile attacks.

The development comes as Russians are reported to be suffering from power outages in their homes in the Moscow region caused by technical issues at plants amid subzero temperatures.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is about 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov and Naro-Fominsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky and Selyatino are also without power.

The Telegram channel said that at the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings, "the crew...is on duty around the clock."

"It is here that the decision on a retaliatory nuclear strike is executed," the channel said.

Newsweek could not independently verify the report and has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.

Power outages have also been reported in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, in the country's western Voronezh region, in the southwest city of Volgograd, and in Rostov, which borders Ukraine, a country that Russia has been at war with since February 24, 2022.

On Sunday, two shopping malls in St. Petersburg were forced to close because of problems with light and heating, reported local news outlet 78.ru. Hundreds of other homes in the city have had no electricity, water or heating for days amid temperatures of -25 C (-13 F).

Russian authorities have also been forced to compensate passengers of a train that ran from Samara to St. Petersburg (a 20-hour journey) without heating during -30 C (-22 F) temperatures. Videos circulating on social media showed carriage windows frozen over. A passenger also said the toilet didn't work during the trip because of frozen pipes.

New cause for Service AWD light, ABS and traction control light to come on

Very recently, all three came on again on the way home. I thought it would be the typical wheel speed sensor thing and I gave it some time to hopefully dry up and clear out. When the lights wouldn't go away, I brought it into my indy mechanic. He scanned the computer and found out that not enough power was being sent from the battery to the one sensor (driver's side rear). He followed the wire and found that the wire bundle that comes through the floor rubbed up against the actual opening and over time, broke. He repaired it but before he began, he called up the local Chrysler dealer if they ever encountered something like this and they initially said no. But when he finished the job, they called back and said that it does happen. So everyone be aware of this predicament and solution.

Canadian Paul,

Welcome to the forum!!!

Great information for other members, I've taken a look to see if I could identify other common cases but didn't come up with anything.

Looking at the diagram though, I can see how this is possible. Unlikely but possible.

Thanks for sharing, great info. and might save someone a big headache down the road.

Feel free to PM me anytime if you need any help.

So I also have ran into the same issues, actually many issues with my journey, most recently the AWD, ESP BAS, traction control and ABS lights have come on, at first it would come on and go off very intermittently now they are on all the time, when they were intermittent the dealer plugged it in and there were no codes for this issue, has anyone experienced the same problem?

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear you're having these issues... Now that the MILs are on all the time, have you had the opportunity to visit your dealer to have the vehicle scanned?

Intermittent issues can be difficult to identify however it may be much easier now.

Could be a bad sensor tripping the lights.

Please keep us posted if you have a chance to get to your dealer for an inspection.

Thanks for any ideas and response

no way to tell what is the problem from here you need to get it to a dealership for an explanation on what might be the problem

Dealer can help.

More than likely a wheel  speed sensor causing the ABS  and TRACS lights to illuminate, but not the low tire  light, Wheel speed sensors usually run about $200.00 installed. The only sure way to know is to get it to your dealer for diagnosis.

My 2014 Journey has this issue. The ABS , Traction Control, and Service AWD lights are on. I also know I have a wheel  hub going bad and is the likely cause. I will be replacing the hub and sensor tomorrow. However, I wanted to know if anyone else has had wheel  hub issues on their Journey. This is the third wheel  hub. The original went at 40K miles. The replacement lasted for for another 30 and it went bad. I know the reason that one went bad, because I was given the incorrect torque. The third one I put on I was given the correct torque (I looked at the screen myself to verify) and I now have 130K miles on the vehicle with ANOTHER bad hub. It's the exact same one, the right side rear. Any thoughts?

what kind of parts used mopar,or part store brand? since it is the same one i would assume something else is putting extra stress on it, keep us informed.

I used a part store brand. I believe I have discovered the problem. I kept getting information about the torque for the axle nut . I was given the torque rating for the front, not the rear. I replaced the hub today and now my ABS , Traction Control, and Service AWD lights are off. Problem fixed.

Hi everyone I'm new. I live in NC and recently within the last week, had these lights  come on, I'm happy they weren't on when I had my state inspection, I would've failed. I had 3 tires replaced and 1 where the tread is still great. The day these lights  came on was the day I went to get my 3rd tire , I couldn't afford all 3 at once, but when I got paid about a week later I got the new one. We've had bad weather here and the day after 1 storm was when 2 lights  came on. Then soon after the service AWD light  came on. So traction  control, AWD, ABS lights.  They've been off only about twice. I have noticed recently that when I tried to lightly put my foot on the gas to get out of Wal-Mart's parking lot, it was having issues like I couldn't get moving quick enough, I was in the single digits before I pulled into an empty space and shut everything off and waited. I sat in my Journey for 5 minutes or so with 3 kids in the humidity because I didn't and still don't know wtheck is going on. It was fine after I turned it back on. The next day I had to go out again and I discovered the tire  pressure was crazy high for 2 in the front(39psi) and the back 2 were either 38 or 37 psi. I made all 4 tire s the same pressure and the lights  came off. Now they are on. I'm worried because I have 3 kids and being a single mom I don't know how much it will cost to fix and how long it would take to fix it. Around here places take advantage of women and rip them off. So I'm on my own either way. I don't know if I should take it to a Dodge  Dealership or to a chain store type business that deals in mechanics. I don't even know if they'd even just check it without me having to pay. I know someone who has a really nice code reader and no codes came up. Any advice would be appreciated. I live in a somewhat rural area and have to travel for my kid's appointments and football. I've never experienced this in my other Dodge  and new tires, but this SXT hadn't had new tires and it was time.  Any advice would be appreciated. It stormed so bad on a late drive home (my 1 son has DS and he was sick so we left urgent care at 1020pm our appt was for 830pm) that I was so worried because most of the roads were black top. Thank you in advance

I believe the AWD system requires all 4 tire s to be replaced at the same time because they all have to be the same spec wise or people have experienced  the issues you are having

They are the same brand size etc. So what's the recommendation or advice that's not going to cut a chunk out of my already tight budget

Sorry dont know what to tell you....

It takes money to own and operate a vehicle and they are a very complex and need diagnosis from people who know what they are doing.

Maybe someone on here knows more...good luck

11 hours ago, SoSassy84 said: They are the same brand size etc. So what's the recommendation or advice that's not going to cut a chunk out of my already tight budget

If all 4 tire s are now new and the same size, perhaps disconnecting the battery  for a bit will reset everything. Otherwise, it takes a special scan tool to read the codes causing those light s which means a dealer trip unless you know someone who has such a tool. Good luck and be sure to post back what you find.

It's probably just a sensor, traction control needs the ABS sensor to fonction properly so if one of your ABS sensor is bad that's why you have both light s ON. As all said, you need an OBD II reader to know which one failed or what is the cause for the light s to be on. With the codes it will be easier to know what to do, changing ABS sensor is pretty easy if that's your problem and the sensor itself is not expensive. But again you need to at least get someone to the read the codes. I wouldn't go the the dealer just for reading codes but that's just me .... I bought on eBay and OBD II reader that plug's in a computer (replicate one of the old version) for 5 bucks, it's not genuine but it's work as intended on the dodge Journey mine is a 2011. Be prepared cause DJ may cost you some money to own. It's a nice car but you need to do some yourself.

I never said I didn't have the money. I don't have the money to get ripped off, large army base, it happens.

You’ve likely got a faulty wheel speed sensor . You’ll need to have the vehicle scanned for codes to determine which one. Each of the four wheels has a sensor. If any one sensor fails, the ABS and traction control systems will be disabled as well as the AWD.
