Her unique Y-shaped open aft leads to the 104m long outdoor World Promenade , with incredible panoramic ocean views. The promenade also features the record breaking, longest dry slide at sea – the Venom Drop @ The Spiral – an 11-deck high stainless-steel masterpiece, unique in the cruise industry.

The ship will feature 13 dining venues, including an incredible six specialty restaurants, between which the Chef’s Garden Kitchen of Michelin-starred chef Niklas Ekstedt, that offers a menu which focus on the natural ingredients and a farm-to-ocean ethos.   The Chef’s Garden Kitchen’s promises fresh and seasonal flavors, taking its cues from nature. Born in Sweden, the son of a produce seller, Niklas Ekstedt began his strong connection with nature and the Earth’s flavors at a young age. Modernizing cuisine with art not technology, Ekstedt combines traditional Nordic cooking and preserving techniques with astonishingly creative combinations of rigorously fresh seasonal ingredients.

The Masters of the Sea pub has long been a favorite spot to grab a quick bite and to delight in the extensive beer list, but this will be the first time that it features an onboard brewery. Award-winning brewmaster Teo Musso, who created the Baladin Farm Brewery, has worked with MSC Cruises to create a bespoke range of MSC signature craft beers that will be brewed at sea in the ship’s full-scale micro-brewery.

The 2013-built MS Europa 2 cruise ship is a top luxury vessel that entered service for Hapag-Lloyd in May 2013. In the company's history, this was the 5th ship named "Europa".

The vessel (IMO number 9616230) is currently Malta- flagged (MMSI 229378000) and registered in Valletta .

History - construction and ownership

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises (Kreuzfahrten) is a Hamburg -based passenger shipping company and premium travel brand owned by TUI AG (shipowner) and managed by its subsidiary TUI Cruises . Between 2017-2020, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises was fully owned by Hapag-Lloyd AG (German-Chilean shipping company, one of the world's oldest), currently ranked the world's 5th largest container shipping line in terms of fleet capacity.

The shipowner TUI AG (Hanover Germany-based) is a British-German multinational currently ranked the world's largest leisure and travel company. It was founded in 1923 and until 2002 was named "Preussag AG". TUI Group's companies specialize in hospitality and tourism services worldwide, with a portfolio including passenger airlines, cruise shipping, package vacations, hotels and resorts, travel agencies, retail shops.

The 516-passenger ship MS Europa 2 is sailing worldwide, specializing in family and golf-themed cruises. Her best luxurious features, from all-balconied staterooms to onboard cooking school make passengers come back for their next vacation - obviously enjoying very much the Hapag-Lloyd's new ship top luxury cruise prices. The ratio crew-to-guest ensures the needed relaxation and comfort, guaranteed with 370 crew members. MS Europa 2 is Hapag-Lloyd's first cruise ship with both German and English being official languages onboard. This fact gives cruising experience real international flavor.

On May 10, 2013, the vessel was christened during the 824th Hamburg Port Anniversary. Europa 2 sailed on her 14-night maiden voyage from Hamburg on May 11, 2013.

Decks and Cabins

MS Europa 2 staterooms (251 total, in 12 grades) are all Suites with step-out balconies. Cabin sizes range from 300 ft2 / 28 m2 (plus balcony sized 75 ft2 / 7 m2) Veranda Suite up to 1065 ft2 / 99 m2 (terrace size 165 ft2 / 15 m2) Owner Suite.

The ship has 7x Family Apartments (connecting suites) each consisting of two connecting cabins (2x215 ft2 / 2x20 m2) and two connecting balconies (2x75 ft2 / 2x7 m2).

All passenger staterooms are in suite categories and have separate sleeping and living areas, walk-in closets, mini-bars fully stocked with bottled water, soft drinks, beers (all complimentary and replenished regularly), fresh fruits and champagne, smart HDTVs (infotainment system, Internet, on-demand movies and music). All cabin bathrooms are marble-tiled, with full-size bathtubs, glass-fronted showers, cabinets for personal items, top-brand toiletries, slippers, thick cotton robes.

The boat has 11 decks , of which 8 are passenger-accessible and 5 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

A large number of seats are provided in each of the restaurants, and there are no set seatings, so passengers can eat whenever and wherever they want to. Restaurant Weltmeere is the largest onboard dining venue, at the stern of the ship, serving the highest-quality food. Other venues are Restaurant Elements serving Asian cuisines plus traditional Chinese dishes, Restaurant Tarragon with its French cuisine, and Restaurant Serenissima offering authentic Italian dishes. Yacht Club Restaurant surprises with a mix of dishes specially prepared for all guests by the chefs. Try alternatively Sushi Restaurant Sakura or reserve Speisezimmer for an additional charge to celebrate special occasions, or dine with family. No fixed dress code is required onboard Europa 2 ship. For the evenings, better consider smart casual style recommended. Summer suits or jackets for gentlemen would be appropriate, ties are not compulsory.

• Passengers onboard MS Europa 2 can enjoy a huge selection of quality spirits and wines: around 19,000 bottles of wine with ~450 cuvees (specific wine blends).
• The cruise ship has the biggest gin collection at sea - 37 different gins. The bar menu has 50 different cocktails, including 10 non-alcoholic.
• Champagne types are 24, with 12 different champagne wine brands.
• The ship's sommelier (wine steward, knowledgeable professional) organizes evening wine tastings in the Grande Reserve. During these special events, he combines various wines. Depending on cruise itineraries, often are added regional and local wines to the menu list.
• Wine tasting on MS Europa 2 costs EUR 80 per person.
• During gin tastings onboard, passengers learn all about the drink - categories, origin, ingredients. Gin tastings usually offer a sampling of 5 or 6 different kinds of gin.
• Cruise ticket prices are not inclusive of alcoholic drinks.
• Beverages on Europa 2 are reasonably priced. Quality wines prices start from EUR 17 per bottle. The most expensive wine is Romanee-Saint-Vivant (Burgundy France, 2008) priced EUR 1030 per bottle. Cocktails (like Mojito or Long Island Iced Tea) cost EUR 5,30. Draft beer prices start from EUR 1,60.

Hapag-Lloyd's "onboard beverage credit" is the company's all-inclusive drink package (for both non-alcoholic and unlimited alcoholic drinks) priced at EUR 200 per person per cruise.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The 115-meter swimming pool is situated in an area with comfortable sun-loungers, enough in number for all passengers. The retractable roof covers the entire pool area in bad weather. Ocean Spa offers a rich menu of treatments and a separate area for a hairdresser. Let be pampered by professional physiotherapists, medical masseuses, beauticians, and pedicurists.

Daytime activities provide exciting shore excursions led by expert guides. Maritime lectures for better insight to the visited regions are often offered. The two golf simulators offer a selection of the world's top golf courses. On all Europa 2 cruises, there are PGA professionals. Golf packages are available to purchase for playing different courses in ports of call.

Other MS Europa 2 facilities include a Library, Auditorium-3D Cinema, Jazz Club, Boutique, Fitness/gym area, deck games area/shuffleboard, whirlpools, Culinary School (for an additional charge).

Kids are well catered for onboard, with Knopf Club (for ages 2-3), Kids' Club (for ages 4-10), Teens' Club (for ages 11-15). Kids up to 11 years old travel free when they share with a full-paying adult. Those aged 12-15 have to pay GBP 39 per night only.

The Theatre offers spectacular shows, famous guest artists, and performances from the ship's band. Bars' selection includes the quiet Herrenzimmer smoking lounge, and Sansibar Disco - open until late at night for dancing to the DJ music. You can also choose the piano, wine and pool bars, or Belvedere.

MS Europa 2 itinerary program is based on around-the-world cruise deals to popular destinations, such as Transatlantic crossings, Caribbean, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean (French Riviera and Italian ports), Asia, South Africa. The Europa 2 cruise ship offers all-inclusive deals and is often ranked as the most expensive passenger ship in the world.

The 2017-2018 season will see the ms Europa 2 call at 22 maiden ports and offer private land-based pre- and post-cruise programs, as well as a new travel format IN2BALANCE, focusing on relaxation techniques of the Far East. For the first time, the 500-passenger Hapag-Lloyd Cruises luxury ship will call at Port Canaveral , Messina , Puerto Chacabuco and Stanley (Falkland Islands) .

On April 29, 2013, it was delivered to Hapag-Lloyd and on May 10th was christened - during the 824th Anniversary of Port Hamburg . The 14-night Maiden Voyage departed from Hamburg on May 11th. The inaugural itinerary visited ports in Holland (Amsterdam), Belgium (Antwerp), France (Honfleur, La Rochelle, Bordeaux), Spain (Bilbao) and Portugal (Leixoes-Oporto) ending in Lisbon.

Europa 2 ship has a biological sewage treatment plant and seawater desalination facilities. Fuels that are used have a 0,1% max sulfur content while berthing in ports. It means the emissions are reduced by 93%. The vessel's hull is specially designed to cut down fuel consumption by 18%. The ship is equipped with SCR (selective catalytic reduction) system resulting in up to 95% fewer nitrogen emissions, in comparison to other liners.

The Eastern Mediterranean itinerary May 14-24, 2016 (Istanbul to Piraeus Athens) was scheduled as "Surprise Cruise". All passengers were allowed to vote on where the ship will go and what ports to call across Turkey and Greece will visit, as only the ports of departure and arrival were fixed on the itinerary. During this special voyage, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises hosted onboard Europa 2 the first-ever international circus arts festival. Live performances were scheduled for the German musician Roger Cicero. The ship's Captain (Christian van Zwamen) presented all passengers with a list of potential itinerary routes and ports, while a lecturer talked about the destinations' highlights. There were a total of 20 destinations to choose from, Six professional circus artists performed an acrobatics show in the theater lounge on Deck 4. Cruise fares started from £GBP 3600 pp (early booking rates).

In 2016 (October 24-November 6) MS Europa 2 visited Cuba for the first time. The 12-day itinerary ( La Guardia Venezuela to Havana) stopped at the Cuban ports  Havana ,  Santiago de Cuba ,  Cienfuegos ,  Isla de la Juventud,  in addition to BVI, St Lucia, St Marteen, Jamaica, Aruba, and Curacao. Prices started from EUR 10130 pp (USD 8870 / GBP 5550).

On two Mediterranean cruises in 2017 (departures June 30 - Venice to Monaco, and August 1 - Bilbao to Hamburg), on the cruise liner performed live Circus Roncalli. The 1976-founded German circus became the first performing on Hapag-Lloyd cruise ship. The circus performed 2 different shows per voyage.  By April 2017, themed cruises were sold out.

In 2017, 3-time German Olympic champion Maria Hofl-Riesch offered special  fitness sessions  as ship's Director of sports and fitness program.

Like all the newbuild cruise liners , MS Europa 2 is fitted with shorepower technology allowing the boat to be plugged-in at berths with shorepower/cold ironing capabilities. When docked, the cruise ship requires 2,2 MW of electricity per hour. While berthed at homeport Hamburg's Cruise Center Altona, the vessel is provided with electricity by the company Hamburg Energie GmbH.

Europe is beautiful in every season, but the peak of comfortable weather (especially in the north) is between May and September.

You should always be prepared for rain and colder weather when you travel to Europe, especially in the North. Dress in light layers for your vacation.

EUROPA 2 successfully uses shore power in North America for the first time

Last Monday, the EUROPA 2 used shore power in a port outside Europe for the first time – during its call at San Diego, California. Now that the small luxury ship from the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises fleet has been regularly using shore power at the Cruise Center Hamburg Altona and the Ostseekai in Kiel, San Diego is the first port in North America to be added to the list.

Double premiere for the EUROPA 2: while the small luxury ship is travelling along the diverse West Coast of America, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has used its maiden call at San Diego to promote the use of shore power outside Europe as well. Sailing from San Francisco to Colon, guests on this special route await experiences including the world’s most famous suspension bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, glamorous Hollywood flair in Los Angeles and a daytime passage through the Panama Canal. For the first time, the EUROPA 2 is making stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Bahia Magdalena, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatanejo, Puerto Quetzal and Puntarenas on this cruise – making it a route full of firsts for the ship, crew and guests.

In 2020, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises used the EUROPA 2’s pandemic-related lay time in Hamburg to complete testing for the successful use of the shore power system at the Cruise Center Altona and have it approved by the DNV. Since then, the EUROPA 2 is able to use shore power anywhere in the world wherever this energy supply is available. The use of shore power significantly reduces CO2 and pollutant emissions in the port. There are currently around 25 ports worldwide with shore power systems for cruise ships. “The use of shore power is a key component of our sustainability strategy and enables virtually climate-neutral ship operations in the port. For this year, we are currently planning around 20 more calls in nine ports worldwide where we will use shore power across the entire fleet,” says Julian Pfitzner, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, about the plans of the leading provider of luxury and expedition cruises in the German-speaking market.

 By 2030, TUI Group’s cruise operators, including Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, are set to reduce their absolute CO2e emissions by more than a quarter (27.5 %) compared to 2019. These ambitious emission reduction targets have been independently and scientifically verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative. The main levers for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ ambitious decarbonization programme are the optimization of itineraries and speeds, operational and technical energy efficiency measures, the use of sustainable and climate-friendly biofuels and the continuous expansion of the use of shore power. The EUROPA 2 was the first cruise ship in the world to be fitted with SCR catalytic converters. The catalytic converters reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by almost 95 percent.

After San Diego, the EUROPA 2 will use shore power in seven more ports in the course of the year. Montreal will be another first in North America. Shore power will also be available in the Norwegian ports of Oslo, Bergen, Ålesund and Kristiansand as well as at the Cruise Center in Hamburg Altona and at the Ostseekai in Kiel.

On the Christmas cruise, guests on board the EUROPA 2 will explore the exotic nature of New Zealand and idyllic islands in the South Pacific. On its way from Auckland to Lautoka via the New Zealand ports of Mount Maunganui (Tauranga), Picton and Bay of Islands, onwards via New Caledonia, Vanuatu and various stops in the Fiji Islands, the small luxury ship will take its guests to bubbling geysers, coral reefs and white sandy beaches during the festive period and at the turn of the year. Launched in 2010, Norwegian Epic was the first cruise ship in the industry to feature studio accommodations for solo travelers. Norwegian Cruise Line offers this category on nine of the 19 ships in its fleet, including the newest ship, Norwegian Viva. These cabins, at an average size of 100 square feet, are designed and priced with the solo traveler in mind. They have no single supplements – and studio rooms on board Norwegian Bliss even boast virtual windows.

Guests of the studios get access to the private Studio Lounge. In this exclusive space, you can socialize with other solo travelers and enjoy complimentary refreshments. There are also singles meetups throughout the voyage and plenty of fun-filled onboard activities to mingle with like-minded cruisers. MSC Cruises offers interior and balcony solo cabins for single cruisers on its Meraviglia-class ships: the MSC Meraviglia, Bellissima, Grandiosa, Virtuosa and the newest vessel in the fleet, MSC Euribia. The second-newest ship, MSC World Europa, has 28 cabins – 10 Studio Interior and 18 Studio Ocean View staterooms – designed specifically for solo travelers. MSC World America, set to debut in 2025, will also feature the solo studio staterooms.

Three of Holland America Line's newest ships each offer 12 solo cabins to accommodate single travelers: the Pinnacle-class Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Konigsdam. These ocean view staterooms range in size from 127 to 172 square feet and feature the same amenities as the double occupancy cabins but with a double bed. The cruise line's Single Staterooms are priced for one person. If a guest chooses to book a different stateroom, single supplements for double occupancy cabins are as much as 100% over the standard fare, depending on the voyage and the cabin category.

Long committed to solo travelers, the line offers many activities where guests can meet other singles such as wine tastings, cocktail mixers, exercise classes, daily quizzes, sports challenges and more. The top 10 biggest cruise ships in the world

M odern cruise ships continue to grow in size, with the biggest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas , launching at the start of this year, and her sister ship the Star of the Seas expected to surpass her in size.

Both of these ships are operated by Royal Caribbean International, which operates five of the ten largest cruise ships in the world. Carnival Corporation, arguably the biggest cruise company in the world, features three times on the list through its subsidiaries P&O Cruises and Costa Cruises.

All of the heaviest cruise ships in the world were built within the last 20 years, although the majority – six of the ten – were built within the last five years.

So, here are the top ten biggest cruise ships in the world, by gross tonnage. 

10. P&O Cruises MS Arvia : 185,581 gross tonnes

The MS Arvia is P&O Cruises’ fourth ship to be built by German shipyard Meyer Werft. Weighing in at 185,581 gross tonnes, the 345m (1,130-foot) Arvia is slightly larger than her sister ship, the MS Iona . The 20-deck ship is the largest ship commissioned for the British cruise market and has a maximum passenger capacity of 6,264 passengers, with 1,800 crew onboard. 

The ship is the second liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered Excellence-class vessel for P&O, following the Iona . Arvia is powered by a 61,760kW LNG drive system, with a propulsion power of 37 megawatts. The LNG-powered propulsion system allows the vessel to sail at a maximum speed of 21.5 knots.

After being floated out in August 2022, the Arvia mainly operates itineraries around the Caribbean or the Mediterranean.

9. Costa Cruises – Costa Smeralda : 185,010 gross tonnes

The Costa Smeralda is the first LNG-powered vessel in the Costa Cruises fleet. With a gross tonnage of 185,010gt, the 20-deck Excellence-class ship measures 337m (1,106 feet) in length. The second LNG-powered cruise ship to enter operation in the world, she has a maximum capacity of 6,554 passengers with 1,646 crew and a service speed of 21.5 knots.

Construction of the Costa Smeralda began at the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland, in September 2017. Meyer Turku collaborated with the Meyer Werft Papenburg shipyard to develop and integrate the LNG propulsion plant for the ship. She is fitted with four 16-cylinder, Caterpillar MaK 16VM46DF engines, with 15.4 megawatts (20,710 horsepower) output per engine, resulting in a maximum power of  37 megawatts (50,000 horsepower).

The ship, which was named after the Emerald Coast of Sardinia, entered service in December 2019 , departing Savona on its maiden voyage in the Mediterranean, where it has sailed since.

8. Costa Cruises – Costa Toscana : 186,364 gross tonnes

The Costa Toscana is the sister ship of the Costa Smeralda and is also powered by LNG . measuring 337m (1,106 feet) long and weighing in at 186,364 gross tonnes, the Toscana has a maximum capacity of 6,338 passengers and 1,678 staff across her 20 decks.

Like her sister ship, the Toscana was also built at the Meyer shipyard in Finland, with construction completed in 2021. She is also powered by four MaK-Caterpillar engines, with a total power of 57.2 megawatts (76,706 horsepower), and two ABB Azipod motors , resulting in a service speed of 17 knots.

Named in homage to the Tuscany region of Italy, Costa Toscana mainly sails around the Mediterranean Sea but Costa Cruises has also used the ship to sail itineraries further afield, such as around Brazil and the UAE.

7. MSC Cruises – MSC World Europa : 215,863 gross tonnes

The only entry in the top ten from MSC Cruises, MSC World Europa measures 333m (1,094 feet) in length. With 215,863 gross tonnage, she can house more people than any other ship in the MSC fleet: up to 6,762 passengers across 2,633 cabins spread over 22 decks, in addition to 2,138 crew.

Built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, the World Europa ’s LNG-power propulsion system was subcontracted to Finland-based Wärtsilä. Five LNG-powered, 14-cylinder Wartsila 46DF dual-fuel engines power the vessel, with a propulsion power of 44 megawatts ( 59,005 horsepower). She also features nitrogen oxide reduction (NOR) units, two Wartsila LNGPac fuel storage and supply systems, seven thrusters, and two fixed-pitch propellers. 

The MSC World Europa was floated out at the end of 2021 and was initially used as an accommodation vessel for fans attending the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with the ship berthed at Doha Port in Qatar during the tournament. Following the competition, the ship subsequently travelled several routes around the UAE, before sailing to the Mediterranean, where it has sailed itineraries since.

6. Royal Caribbean International – Allure of the Seas : 225,282 gross tonnes

The first of many entries on this list operated by Royal Caribbean, Allure of the Seas weighs in at 225,282 gross tonnes. Measuring 362m (1,187 feet), she is only 50mm (2 inches) longer than her sister ship the Oasis of the Seas . The Allure has a maximum capacity of 6,780 passengers and 2,200 crew across 18 decks.

Built at the Turku Shipyard in Finland, the Allure took two years to build , floating out in 2010. She features six Wärtsilä 46 diesel engines with a total power output of 97 megawatts (130,053 horsepower). It is propelled by three electric Azipod azimuth thrusters. The ship can travel at a cruising speed of 22 knots.

With a homeport of Galveston, Texas in the US, the Allure mainly serves itineraries around the Bahamas but she is scheduled to sail routes around the Mediterranean in 2025.

5. Royal Caribbean International – Oasis of the Seas : 226,838 gross tonnes

The oldest ship on this list, the Oasis of the Seas has been in service for over a decade. She was the biggest cruise ship at the time when floated out in 2009, with a gross tonnage of 226,838gt and a length of 360m (1,181 feet). The Oasis has a maximum capacity of 6,699 passengers and 2,181 staff across 18 decks.

The Oasis took two years to build at the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland, with the keel laid on 12 November 2007 and the ship arriving at her homeport of Port Everglades in Florida, US, on 13 November 2009.

The Oasis is powered by eight Wärtsilä V12 diesel engines, which generate 5.6 megawatts (7,500 horsepower) each, alongside four bow thrusters. The main propulsion system consists of three 20-megawatt (26,820 horsepower) electric Azipod motors, resulting in a combined propulsion power of 82 megawatts (109,964 horsepower) and a standard cruising speed of 23 knots.

The Oasis mainly operates routes around the Caribbean, but occasionally repositions to offer itineraries in the Mediterranean.

4. Royal Caribbean International – Harmony of the Seas : 226,963 gross tonnes

The third Oasis-class ship built by Royal Caribbean, Harmony of the Seas weighed in bigger than her existing sister ships at launch in 2016, with 226,963 gross tonnage, but she has since been surpassed by newer vessels. With a total length of 362m (1,188 feet), Harmony has a maximum capacity of 6,780 passengers and 2,300 staff across 18 decks.

Royal Caribbean placed an order with STX France for the construction of Harmony of the Seas in December 2012. The first steel for the ship was cut at STX France’s Saint-Nazaire shipyard in September 2013, while the keel-laying ceremony was held in May 2014.

The Harmony is powered by three 18.9-megawatt Wärtsilä 16V46 16-cylinder main generator diesel engines and three Wärtsilä 12V46 12-cylinder engines producing 13.9 megawatts each. The propulsion power is provided by three electric Azipod azimuth thrusters and manoeuvring is assisted by four 5.5-megawatt Wärtsilä CT 3500 tunnel thrusters. The propulsion system results in 82 megawatts (109,964 horsepower) and enables the ship to sail at a standard speed of 23 knots.

Harmony of the Seas embarked on her inaugural seven-night Western Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona, Spain, in June 2016, and currently operates itineraries around the Western Caribbean from her homeport of Galveston, Texas in the US.

3. Royal Caribbean International – Symphony of the Seas : 228,081 gross tonnes

At launch in 2018, the Symphony of the Seas surpassed the Harmony as the biggest cruise ship, weighing in at 228,081 gross tonnes. Measuring 361m (1,185 feet), the Symphony has a maximum capacity of 6,680 passengers and 2,200 staff across 18 decks and was the testing ground for Royal Caribbean's new muster drill . With a total length of 361m (1,185 feet), She is roughly 30 metres (98 feet) longer than the largest military ships , the US Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and the USS Gerald R. Ford .

The keel-laying ceremony for the Symphony of the Seas was held in October 2015 at STX’s Saint-Nazaire shipyard in France, and the ship sailed out in June 2017. She is powered by six diesel sets, each composed of three Wärtsilä 16V46D engines and three Wärtsilä 12V46D engines, as well as three 20-megawatt electric Azipod main engines – resulting in 82 megawatts (109,964 horsepower) of propulsion power and a standard cruising speed of 22 knots.

The Symphony commenced her seven-day maiden voyage from Barcelona in April 2018, and since then has mainly operated itineraries around the Caribbean from her homeports of Miami, New York, and Fort Lauderdale.

2. Royal Caribbean International – Wonder of the Seas : 235,600 gross tonnes

Royal Caribbean's flagship, Wonder of the Seas is the fifth Oasis-class cruise ship built for the cruise company. Weighing in at 235,600 gross tonnes, the Wonder was the largest ship in the world when she was completed in January 2022. Measuring 362m (1,187 feet) in length, the 18-deck Wonder has a maximum capacity of 7,084 guests across its 2,867 staterooms, as well as housing 2,369 crew.

Weighing 248,663 gross tonnes and measuring 365 metres (1,1967 feet), the Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world. Christened on 23 January 2024, the Icon has a maximum capacity of 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew across 20 decks. She is the lead ship of the new Icon-class, with a sister ship the Star of the Seas due to be delivered in 2025 and another ship planned for delivery in 2026.

Built by Meyer Turku in Finland, the Icon is the first ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet that can be powered by LNG. It uses three Wärtsilä 14V46DF and three Wärtsilä 12V46DF for its main generator engines, which provide 67.5 megawatts of energy to run the ship. She is propelled by three 20-megawatt Azipod thrusters as well as five 4.8-megawatt Wärtsilä WTT-45 CP bow thrusters, with a cruising speed of 22 knots.

After sailing her maiden voyage on 27 January 2024, the Icon now sails year-round itineraries of seven-night trips around the Eastern and Western Caribbean from her homeport of Miami, Florida.
