Foo Fighters to revisit 1995 tour stops on 25th anniversary tour

Today in Confronting Your Mortality Through Pop Culture: Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are hitting the road for a 25th anniversary tour. For what’s been dubbed the 2020 Van Tour, the rock outfit will forgo the luxuries of a conventional tour bus—what with its modern trappings like plumbing and beds —and instead opt to recapture the impoverished magic of burgeoning post-grunge band life by traveling in a van (so vintage! So cute!). In honor of their 25th anniversary, the Foo Fighters will retrace their steps from the 1995 tour, revisiting the cities they played back in the good ol’ days, when the world was first introduced to the siren call of the “Macarena,” and the O.J. Simpson trial rebranded “Must-See TV.” Unlike 1995, however, the group will play much bigger venues to accommodate their now- much larger fanbase.

The first line of the Foo Fighters’ 2020 Van Tour press release aptly reads, “Congratulations: You’re old!” And we couldn’t have said it better ourselves, except maybe to add something like, “you hag!” or “Can we use your AARP benefits?” Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will preempt each show with preview of his upcoming documentary, What Drives Us , a “deep dive into what possesses a particular tribe of human beings to leave behind jobs, families, relationships and any semblance of sanity to climb into a busted ass E conoline and take their music to the people.” The doc features interviews with members of classic bands like Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, and more.

Here’s what Foo Fighters played as they kicked off 2024 world tour

The band began their current run of shows with a hit-filled set in Dallas

Foo Fighters kicked off their 2024 world tour in Dallas, Texas last night (May 1) – watch fan-shot footage and see the full setlist below.

The band played a 23-track set at the Dos Equis Pavilion amphitheatre on the first stop of their ‘Everything Or Nothing At All’ tour . To begin the show, Dave Grohl and co. delivered a performance of ‘Bridge Burning’ from their 2011 album ‘Wasting Light’ .

They followed it up with a run of ‘No Son Of Mine’, ‘Rescued’, ‘The Pretender’, ‘Times Like These’, ‘La Dee Da’, ‘Breakout’, ‘Medicine At Midnight’ and ‘Walk’.

The second half of the gig boasted airings of classics such as ‘My Hero’, ‘Learn To Fly’, ‘All My Life’, ‘Monkey Wrench’ and ‘Best Of You’, as well as songs like ‘Arlandria’, ‘These Days’, ‘Shame Shame’ and ‘The Glass’.

For the two-track encore, Foo Fighters played ‘The Teacher’ from their 2023 album ‘But Here We Are’ before closing out the night with ‘Everlong’. The group took to the stage following an opening slot from Nova Twins .

Foo Fighters lit up Texas with an incredible set of their mightiest hits and most heartbreaking moments…

Last night (May 1) at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas, Foo Fighters kicked off their Everything Or Nothing At All summer stadium tour in typically humongous fashion.

Supported by K! faves Nova Twins , Foos treated the Lone Star State to a whopping 24-song set – technically more if you break up the medley – including monster hits Best Of You, All My Life and Breakout, as well as a handful of newies like Rescued, The Glass and the heart-wrenching The Teacher from their latest record But Here We Are .

The tour rolls on across the States for the rest of the month, before the Foos hit the UK for some huge shows at Old Trafford and the London Stadium, then onto the Euro fests and back to the States again.

Foo Fighters Bring Back Their 1995 Tour Merch to Help Save Music Venues

Foo Fighters are throwing it back to their very first gig with the re-release of a T-shirt sold at that concert originally.

But the vintage merch item isn't being reprinted just to mark  the 25th anniversary of the band's first tour. As part of an alliance with the National Independent Venue Association's #SaveOurStages campaign, the tee reissue will also help support live music venues amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The garment that features a depiction of an alien and comes decorated with the group's name was available at Foo Fighters' first public concert. (The performance took place on Feb. 23, 1995, at the Jambalaya Club in Arcata, California.) Now, both adult and kid-sized reprints are available for pre-order.

"Front print is printed with glow-in-the-dark ink just like the original one sold at the show," the T-shirt's description reads. "Printed on 100% Cotton sage color tee with the show info printed on the back. All of Foo Fighters' proceeds from the sales of this shirt will go towards benefitting NIVA."

The National Independent Venue Association was established in March to seek federal intervention and outside aid in keeping music venues afloat while large in-person gatherings are off-limits. According to its website , the organization's mission is to "preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States." A similar program exists in the United Kingdom .

Foo Fighters had initially scheduled a U.S. tour for this summer meant to retrace the steps of their very first national run 25 years ago. However, the pandemic caused the Dave Grohl -led outfit to cancel those dates .

Fans can pre-order the Foo Fighters T-shirts at the band's web store . The youth tee comes printed on a bright green garment instead of the adult version's subdued sage. They're expected to ship around Aug. 24.

Setlist + Video – Foo Fighters Kick Off 2024 Tour

Foo Fighters returned to the road with the launch of their 2024 Everything or Nothing at All tour on May 1 in Dallas, Texas, playing a 24-song set.

The sold-out show took place at the Dos Equis Pavilion, with an estimated 20,000 fans in attendance.

Dave Grohl and his bandmates have a well-earned reputation for delivering long shows, and they certainly were up to the task on this night, rocking through two dozen songs.

Foo Fighters gave fans an eclectic assortment of songs during their tour opener. Yes, the massive hits were well represented, as “The Pretender,” “Times Like These,” “My Hero,” “All My Life” and “Best of You” all got their time to shine. But the band also mixed in deeper cuts, such as “Arlandria” (from 2011’s Wasting Light ) and “La Dee Da” (from 2017’s Concrete and Gold ).

Foo Fighters’ 2024 Summer Plans

Foo Fighters’ initial stretch of 2024 U.S. dates will last two weeks and include stops at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Shaky Knees Festival and Welcome to Rockville. In June, the band heads to the U.K. and Europe for performance, before returning Stateside for a longer run of dates beginning in July. Mammoth WVH and The Pretenders will each open select concerts later in the summer.

Notably, this marks the Foo Fighters first extensive North American tour with Josh Freese as part of the band. The drummer, who took over for the late Taylor Hawkins in 2023, previously joined the group for some one-off U.S. dates and a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The Dallas show featured several songs Freese hadn’t previously performed with the band, including “Bridge Burning” and “Medicine at Midnight.” The There Is Nothing Left to Lose song “Aurora” was dedicated to Hawkins.
