Heaven Travel (天国旅立) – An excellent game to enhance your Chinese

In late 2021, when my Chinese level was roughly equivalent to HSK5, I began looking for a simple game I could play in Chinese. I stumbled across Heaven Travel on the Google Store and found this game to be the perfect beginner-friendly game to play in Chinese . I re-downloaded the game recently to see what’s changed and to re-assess the game from a much higher Chinese comprehension level.

About the Game

Lofn, a little girl who wakes up on an ethereal grassland, sets out on an adventure to save the Memory Tree. While she collects different memory pieces, she also discovers the surprising truth of her life. Other than unexpected plot twists, the story is presented uniquely, which we hope will stimulate the reader to look at life from a different perspective.

How is Heaven Travel a good choice for learning Chinese?

Heaven Travel may not appear to be a game created by a Chinese company; however, it is in fact created by a Chinese artist in Hong Kong. You can check out the artist’s Facebook page , where she shares news on Heaven Travel and regularly showcases her other creations.

Heaven Travel has you send the little girl, Lofn (小风), to various places and planets to collect memory fragments and save the Memory Tree. Each memory is accompanied by a set of dialogues, usually a short conversation between Lofn (小风) and the memory tree. As you collect more and more fragments, you’ll soon discover the truth behind the mysterious ethereal grassland and unveil the surprising truth of Lofn’s (小风) life.

You can replay the dialogue for each fragment as many times as you desire, which is exactly what you need when learning. This allows you to go through the dialogues, select specific phrases and words for learning, and return later to review the context of the learned words and phrases. At the same time, you’ll unravel an extremely touching story in a very unique way. What’s more, it’s completely free and ad-free!

The memory fragments are split into three sections: memories of her travels around the grasslands, dark memories and memories of her past. The memories of the grassland and the dark memories do have a whimsical feel to them and contain more fantasy terms. The memories of her past are much more every day, and it’s perfect for learning relevant terms used in everyday modern life.

Is spending money required?

The game has an energy/token type system called dandelion (蒲公英), which slowly accumulates over time. These tokens are required to send Lofn (小风) on her journey, unlock permanent buffs and purchase one-time use buffs.

I didn’t feel that spending money on additional tokens was necessary. New fragments aren’t as frequent after a while, and spending extra tokens on buffs is pretty much a must; I just waited a bit longer for the tokens to accumulate.

There are two additional mini-games, one of them being a rhythm game. Some songs are locked behind a paywall, but it’s not part of the main game and doesn’t prevent me from collecting all the memory fragments; I don’t feel that it’s bothersome. I would still consider the main game as free and ad-free.

A few drawbacks

Heaven Travel isn’t all that perfect as a game for learning Chinese, and it has a few downfalls.

The initial start is a little long and will take a while to get started, which might pose difficulties for beginners as there’s quite a bit of reading. Unfortunately, there’s no option to revisit and redo the tutorial without uninstalling the game and starting anew.

The original text appears to be written in traditional Chinese and later converted to simplified Chinese as there are a few convertation errors where the traditional character is shown instead of its simplified counterpart. It’s not an issue when playing in traditional Chinese, but if you are playing in simplified, be aware that a few characters haven’t been converted properly.

Lastly, the creator added a Japanese voiceover for the little girl in August 2023; while not necessarily a drawback, it is unfortunate that there’s no Chinese voiceover.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned earlier, I re-downloaded the game to re-assess it from a higher Chinese comprehension level. The first time, when my level was much lower, I had to check a few words in the dictionary and struggled a little with the tutorial at the beginning. I had no problems this time and didn’t look up any words.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel that the rates of memory fragments have increased, as it didn’t take me long to rack up a large collection of fragments.

My views of this game haven’t changed, and I still believe that this is an excellent game for Chinese learners.

Although I can’t verify the translation quality of the other languages, perhaps it’s also great for other languages too. If you’ve played this in another language, please let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

A really interesting game which is unfortunately plagued by ads, Stairway to Heaven for mobile is challenging and especially fun. Now let’s learn how to play it better with this Stairway to Heaven guide filled with tips and cheats for you!

It’s all about making the right choices

As you walk up the stairs in Stairway to Heaven by Lion Studios, you will reach special steps where you will trigger one of the few available minigames. Usually, this means answering a multiple-answer question where you have to find the right answer.

If you do so, you will move forward a bunch of steps and also earn some points in the stat related to the question you completed (wisdom, honesty and kindness). If you make a wrong choice, you will be taken back a few steps and lose points in the given area.

The problem is that in many cases, it won’t be very obvious what the “right” choice is because they could all seem right. However, think that your goal is that of going to heaven, so you will always have to be the good guy (or girl) and do the right thing.

Sure, it might sound fun to take a bribe and let your big company’s accountant earn some money on the side, but that’s not the right thing to do if you want to go to heaven. So always have this in mind when playing the game: what would Jesus do?

Or something along the lines… Always be good and make the choices that seem right!

You can still live the life any way you want to

Of course, this is a game. You can live any type of life you want and give just the answers that you feel like giving. Be the bad character if you want. There isn’t a lot to lose, you will still get to heaven, but you will have less money to spend there.

Because, yes, apparently even there you will have to spend coins (most of which you can get through watching ads) on decorating. Strange stuff for sure!

Once you complete a stage in you life (baby, child, adult and so on) you can get some money as a reward depending on how well you did and how many stats you have earned along the way. Of course, in order to do so you will have to watch an ad. But, hey, you will have more money to spend in Heaven!

It goes without saying that if you made some pretty poor choices and you only have a few money earned, there’s little sense in wasting time on an ad to grab the coins. Just move forward and make better choices in life. Or not, it’s up to you!

The thing is that ultimately it won’t matter at all if you have 5 Honesty or 500. Just the potential income is influenced by this and not the end game.

Cheat to get the correct answers to your Wisdom questions

While for most of the questions, you have to use your intuition to guess the correct answer – which is sometimes NOT what the majority is voting – when it comes to Wisdom questions, it’s easy to cheat here.

Simply switch over to a new tab and search on Google for the answer to your question. These are usually very easy to find and it only takes seconds. This way, you will end up the wisest person that ever was… until you start a new life, that is and match your record once more.

Take all the keys and money you find along the way

As you go up the stairs, you will run into some keys. These are valuable if you want to unlock extra characters to play as – like the billionaire or celebrity. These are useful for adding some variety to your gameplay. Otherwise, you’ll have to answer the same questions over and over again, which gets old really fast.

You will also have all sorts of bubbles floating around: these allow you to get some extra money, which is something you should take advantage of, especially if you really want to buy all the available decorations in heaven.

You can watch (extra) ads to get various goodies

As if it’s not enough that the game throws ads at you like confetti at a party, you can opt to watch a ton by yourself.

Basically, everything good in this game (except for the funny questions) requires you to watch an ad. Do you want those rewards from the stage you completed? Watch an ad! Do you want an extra decoration? Watch and ad! Do you want to avoid losing 300 coins? Watch and ad.

And so on. Everything in this game requires watching ads and unfortunately there is no IAP for disabling them. At least not the moment of writing this guide. This shows that the road to heaven is indeed paved with all sorts of advertisements…

How to disable ads?

When you decide that enough is enough and you want to focus on actually playing the game and not spending more time watching ads than playing, you can cheat your way into disabling the ads.

The developers probably understood that it can get frustrating, so they decided to let you play the game without internet. Yes, there is no requirement to be always online when playing Stairway to Heaven on mobile.

And if you’re not online, you are not seeing ads. So simply force quit the game, go onto airplane mode or just turn off your WiFi and/or mobile internet and restart the game. You will now be able to play it without any ads.

Have in mind that this also negates all the benefits that you can get from watching them, so you will not be able to collect any extra money when you complete a stage of your life, nor get rid of bad events through watching ads and so on. Your choice, as everything else related to this game.

The game has FIVE missable achievements, three of those involve the endings, one is to finish the game without dying, and the other involves combat, I will explain all on the "Hints and Tips" section, so be sure to read that.

Overall, the game's achievements aren't that difficult. The hardest one is to complete the game without dying, but if you play smart you'll get it without a problem.

West Virginia’s Blue Ridge peaks, dramatic gorges, and rushing rivers put it on the map for hikers, rafters, and rock climbers.

West Virginia’s New River Gorge, encompassing more than 70,000 acres, became the country’s newest national park and preserve in December.

Whitewater rafting, a treetop obstacle course and the precarious Bridge Walk across the New River Gorge Bridge are particular highlights for families with big kids and tweens.

Although barely a five-hour drive from the Washington D.C. suburbs, this area is enveloped in enough national forest land to allow extra-clear skies.

Sun Haven is out of early access and has a full 1.0 release, meaning now is a great time to get started in the charming farming and adventure game available via Steam for PC and Mac .

While it’s easy to compare Sun Haven to Stardew Valley , as they’re both immersive pixel farming simulators, Sun Haven has a ton of content that Stardew doesn’t. You have skill trees, different character races, and more of a quest-oriented story.

It’s extremely easy to get lost in the sauce while playing Sun Haven , as there’s no stamina to keep you in check. To help guide you, we listed out a few tips that you should give a once over before you start.

There’s no stamina, but keep your eye on the time

That’s right. You can just farm and mine until your heart's content. Well, kind of. You are limited by time, with a midnight curfew. However, you’re free to do whatever you want with no constraints, as long as you’re in bed by midnight.

Make sure to skim the dialogue, if you usually skip it

Not only will the story dialogue tell you where you need to go, but some romanceable characters will have chit-chat that can raise or lower their relationship points with you. If you pick the obviously rude answer, the characters won’t like it, so don’t just go clicking willy-nilly to get through the words. Give it a skim and select the right choices.

Keep your crafting stations going

Your raw materials like wood and ore will need to be converted into planks and bars before you can really use them, but you don’t want to have to wait on them to be made. That being said, keep the furnace and crafting stations going with basic materials (if you have them) to avoid having to wait on them.

Don’t forget to replant some trees

Once you clear out your farm, make sure to pick a part of the farm to replant trees on. Lumber is an important resource, so you don’t want to have to scour around too hard for it.

Keep tabs on what your museum needs

Sun Haven does indeed have bundles to fill that give you special rewards in its museum . You’ll definitely want to take a peek in and fill in what you can for some free loot. Some of these things require you to plant season-specific crops, so you’ll want to know what to expect ahead of time.

Take it easy with quests and story

You can complete most of the main story quests very easily. It might be tempting to beeline through them, but it may be better to take it easy and not rush too much. Getting through the story does unlock new areas (and new farms to grow different crops on), but managing multiple farms at once can be overwhelming for one player, so you may want to keep it simple.

You can unlock all these farms and areas and then just choose to focus on one at a time, as well. You will notice on your journey to these expanded areas, you’ll run into some high-level monsters, so you should be mindful of that, too.

Farming isn’t the be-all-end-all

In some other farming simulator games, farming is THE definitive way to make money, but in Sun Haven, money isn’t too much of a problem. While you need more money to expand your house, a lot of things are purchased with other special earned currencies, and you don’t necessarily even need money to upgrade your tools.

You can go ham while farming, but with the lack of an automatic watering system until later-game, it’s hard to keep up with.

Complete Heaven On High Deep Dungeon Guide – Final Fantasy XIV

A treasure-trove of dungeons were added into Final Fantasy XIV in the Stormblood Update, complete with another Deep Dungeon for players to test their adventuring prowess. Similar to Palace Of The Dead, Heaven On High is a dungeon that players definitely won't want to skip over.

Heaven On High offers unique loot and a heap of experience to those who can clear its floors. Boasting new mechanics to accompany a familiar routine, this Deep Dungeon is perfect for raising your Job Level beyond 60 . So how do you unlock Heaven On High?

Unlocking Heaven On High

To unlock Heaven On High, first, make sure you have completed the following :

• Main story quest Tide Goes In, Imperials Go Out
• Reached Level 61
• Completed Floor 50 of Palace Of The Dead

Once those have been taken care of, head over to Onokoro in The Ruby Sea and accept the quest Knocking On Heaven's Door from the NPC Hamakaze . He'll send you to seek out another NPC, Kyusei . Speak with Kyusei and follow his instructions to complete the quest, unlocking Heaven On High.

Exploring the heights

While Heaven On High holds fewer floors than Palace Of The Dead, it is no less deadly. This Deep Dungeon consists of 100 floors , with a boss fight occurring every ten floors when exploring. Players can initially only access the first 30, though a new quest called On The Shoulders Of Giants appears with Kyusei upon conquering floor 30.

Accept and complete the quest to open floors 31-100 of Heaven On High. Similar to Palace Of The Dead, with new floors to explore come new rules for ascending the heights:

• After completing floor 30, players may choose to enter the dungeon starting on either the first floor or floor 21
• Matched parties can’t advance past floor 30
• Fixed parties can explore past floor 30 after defeating the boss, though, only if the party suffered zero KO’s during the first 30 floors

As a Deep Dungeon, Heaven On High uses unique gear for exploration. Instead of relying on your usual gear to get you through battle, you'll be armed with Empyrean Aetherpool Gear to face down any threats. Being gear specific to Heaven On High, it also comes with a couple of specific rules:

• The stats of Aetherpool gear are separate from the stats of gear being worn outside of Heaven On High
• Aetherpool gear can be leveled up by opening silver coffers found inside Heaven On High (max level is +99)
• Empyrean Aetherpool Gear can be brought out of Heaven On High After clearing floor 30. Doing this will reduce the Empyrean Aetherpool Gear's level, simply speak with the NPC Confederate Custodian in Onokoro to start the exchange

Coffers and treasure

Coffers found within Heaven On High contain similar items to the ones found in Palace Of The Dead, like Pomenders, along with the addition of something new—Magicite. Pomenders and Magicite can be found by opening gold coffers while exploring.

Pomenders provide various beneficial effects, such as petrifying enemies or unveiling the layout of floors, while Magicite can be used to temporarily summon Primals for devastating attacks. Pomenders and Magicite can only be used while inside Heaven On High.

Players may also come across what appears to be a strand of floating, yellow light. Standing in this light will spawn a special type of treasure called Accursed Hoard . These tiny sacks of loot can be traded to the NPC Confederate Appraiser for a variety of randomized rewards, ranging from confetti to Minions.

Animal Assistance

Helpful NPC animals, called Auspices, exist inside Heaven On High to grant players various buffs. These little guys are rare and appear randomly, but will provide an Area of Effect buff for party members. The buff will last for 5 minutes and can have one of the following effects:

• Inugami - Decreases damage taken
• Senri - Adds a Health regeneration effect
• Komainu - Increases damage dealt

Every 10 floors that players pass will reward the player with a hefty amount of experience, and there are no limits to how many times floors can be replayed. Heaven On High is a great way to level up jobs later in the game, and is a breath of fresh air compared to most dungeons. All that’s left is for you to fight your way to the top!
