5/5 - Excellent

Small disneyland in hongkong but worth to visit

I am from Anaheim with the original Disneyland and heard that Hong Kong Disney is smaller and low key - it was really fun and had different rides than what I'm used to. Would recommend even to Disney snobs! :)

Get there early, when the park opens (usualy 10a) Park gets busy in the afternoon. I really enjoyed this Disneyland

Hold on to the ticket if you want to re-enter the park!!

It's more compact than TOKYO Disneyland.

The Ultimate Hong Kong Disneyland Guide (2024): Secrets, Tips & Must-Dos

hong kong disneyland travel package

The hoi-sumest place on earth to let it go! ❄️

First published: 7 Jan 2019

Disneyland - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

When I first visited Hong Kong Disneyland a decade ago, I was underwhelmed. It seemed like a watered-down, almost pirated version of Disney magic. So when the park became part of our 7D Hong Kong trip , my reaction was a solid “meh”.

But now, the attractions are nothing short of world-class, and you can’t help feeling that sense of wonder. I say this as a full-grown adult, so you know it must be true! And the good news is they just keep building bigger and better attractions.

Arendelle - Hong Kong Disneyland Frozen

Case in point: the long-awaited World of Frozen just opened back in November 2023! The kingdom of Arendelle is ready to explore with familiar sights from the movie like the ice palace, the clock tower, and the friendship fountain.

Not to mention, Hong Kong Disneyland also unveiled its Castle of Magic Dreams in 2020, featuring 14 Disney princesses!

You’ll also find attractions not found in any other Disneyland, like the first-ever Marvel ride  (on top of a Marvel land in the works ) and a unique spin on the Haunted Mansion .

Changes in operations

Opening hours: Generally 10:30AM – 8:30PM (Mon – Thu), 10AM – 9PM (Fri – Sun). From September 2023 onwards, the park is closed every Wed (except PH and certain days). Check the opening hours before going.

Before visiting: – All guests must reserve a slot for their visit on the Hong Kong Disneyland website prior to arrival, up to 90 days in advance. This includes tickets purchased via Klook . – Check here for the updated list of attractions and shows for each day. – Download the Hong Kong Disneyland mobile app to check attraction wait times.

Stickers: Cast members no longer give out free stickers post-Covid 🙁

Pre-visit tips

1) avoid visiting during peak periods.

To avoid crowds, steer clear of weekends,  school holidays and China’s Golden Week holidays . It’s also best to visit during the cooler months of October to April (bonus: this period includes Halloween and Christmas decor and festivities).

2) Pre-book tickets to save money and skip the queue

Save 8% by booking through Klook . A one-day pass can go from  ~S$100 , compared to the HK$639 ( ~S$108 ) price tag on the official site . We also skipped the long lines at the entrance, and simply flashed our in-app voucher to go in!

Tickets are also available with the Klook Pass Hong Kong . So if your itinerary covers multiple Hong Kong attractions, this option could save you up to 26% overall.

3) Download the Hong Kong Disneyland app

It may be a small park, but these legs were made for riding coasters, not walking aimlessly! With the free  Hong Kong Disneyland mobile app , we checked attraction wait times and showtime schedules and got there fast with the GPS-enabled park map.

Difference between Hong Kong Disneyland Tickets (2024)

There are many ticket options for Hong Kong Disneyland via Klook with the World of Frozen opening up, so here are a few pointers to help you decide.

Priority access to rides can also be pre-booked via Klook. We go through it more in this section !

What do the different tiers mean?

hong kong disneyland travel package

Hong Kong Disneyland has recently implemented a tier system for their 1-day tickets. Each day has an assigned “tier” based on how busy it gets. The higher the tier, the more expensive the ticket; Tier 1 is the cheapest, and Tier 4 is the most expensive.

*Pro-tip: Use the 1-Day Ticket Calendar to check which ticket you need to buy based on when you’re visiting.

Example: Only people who bought Tier 3 tickets can go on 29 Mar 2024 — a busy day in the middle of peak season.

If you accidentally buy a higher-tier ticket than intended, you can still use that to visit on a “lower tier” day.

Example: You bought a Tier 4 ticket, but decide to visit the park on a Tier 3 day instead. That’s okay!

Getting to Hong Kong Disneyland

Disney Express - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

The super-cute Disney Express train.

The cheapest (and most scenic) transport option is the MTR. Take the Tung Chung Line to Sunny Bay Station, transfer to the Disneyland Resort Line and onto the Disney train. It’s hard to miss, with adorable Disney-themed handles and memorabilia!

If you’re coming from the airport, it’s a 20-minute taxi ride which costs ~HK$180 (~S$31).

[NEW] Attractions and Must-Dos in World of Frozen

Elsa and Anna - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

Attractions and Must-Dos on Main Street, USA

Main Street USA - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

Designed like a 20th-century American town, Main Street, USA is where the, well, main action happens, with key parades and guest utilities. Walking through this area is like entering the Lady and the Tramp ‘s idyllic scenes, a throwback to simpler days gone by.

Must-Dos 1)  Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad : A scenic train ride with a last stop at Fantasyland, the furthest end of the park.

hong kong disneyland night time firworks during Momentous - Muslim-friendly attractions in Hong Kong

2) “Momentous” Nighttime Spectacular : A light and fireworks show that debuted in June 2022 — featuring almost 150 Disney and Pixar characters. This 20-minute show is the last attraction after all the other rides have closed and gets crowded fast . Secure good viewing spots at least 30 minutes before showtime!

*Pro-tip: We recommend the corner near the gantry, which also lets you quickly exit the park!

Other Attractions 3)  Animation Academy : A 20-minute class on drawing your favourite Disney characters. While instructions are in Cantonese, the steps are easy enough to follow. You can even take your masterpiece home!

4)  Art of Animation : An exhibit with storyboards, paintings, and a cool zoetrope machine for a behind-the-scenes look at Disney animation.

With lush foliage, wooden huts, and lots of tiki, Adventureland is where you’ll find jungle cuties like  Tarzan  and Mowgli .

Must-Dos 1) Festival of The Lion King : A live-action musical based on The Lion King . The singing, stunts, and animatronics were impressive, and there were a couple of times I forgot this wasn’t Broadway!

Must-Dos 1)  Mystic Manor : Without a doubt, the best ride in the entire park! If you’ve only got time for one thing in Hong Kong Disneyland, this is it.

Mystic Manor’s ride design is built like  Disney’s Haunted Mansion , but the similarities end there. This Hong Kong Disneyland-exclusive comes with a unique story, adorable characters, and an immersive experience that’s full of surprises.

This family-friendly ride doesn’t have many thrills, but more than makes up for it with special effects and storytelling. Even adults will want seconds on this one!

Secrets & tips for Hong Kong Disneyland

1) [new] use disney premier access for the popular attractions.

visitors purchasing the Disney Premier Access - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

Hong Kong Disneyland sadly no longer uses the free FASTPASS system — you’ll now have to purchase Disney Premier Access ( available via Klook add-on ) to skip the queues instead.

It pretty much works the same, where you’ll have to scan your Disney Premier Access QR code at each attraction to enjoy priority access.

You can purchase either Disney Premier Access for a single attraction, or a bundle of three or eight attractions. Take note that each pass provides priority access to different rides.

Purchase the Disney Premier Access passes online beforehand via Klook add-on , on the Hong Kong Disneyland mobile app , or on-site at the Main Entrance Ticket Booth, Guest Relations (City Hall, Main Street USA),  Pooh Corner (Fantasyland), Expo Shop (Tomorrowland), Archive Shop (Mystic Point) or Andy’s Toy Box (Toy Story Land).

*Note: The Disney Premier Access does not include admission to Hong Kong Disneyland Park. You’ll have to purchase it separately! For convenience, you can purchase this as an add-on in Klook in addition to your admission ticket.

2) If queues are long, pick single-rider options

Toy Story Shop - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

Opt for the Single Rider option where available — this cut our waiting time for  Toy Soldier Parachute Drop   from 40 minutes to just 5!

3) Trade pins with cast members

Pin Trading Disney- Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

Pin trading is a huge (albeit relatively unknown) tradition at Disneyland, and Hong Kong is no exception. Choose a pin from the shop (from HK$75 – HK$105), and trade with cast members around the park.

4) Collect badges for special occasions

Badges - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

If it’s your birthday or first time at Disney, head to Guest Relations (located within City Hall on Main Street) and collect a celebratory badge. You never know what surprises await when you put it on!

5) Watch out for picture spots

Photo Point - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

These often-missed signposts show you how to position yourself for the best photos!

Suggested routes

Both of these itineraries include must-dos, but the Magic Route prioritises shows and scenic attractions while the Mayhem Route  suits thrill-seekers.

Do note that Main Street opens at official opening time, while other lands and attractions open 30 minutes later.

Also, an hour before park closing, attractions in all lands except Fantasyland and Tomorrowland close. We recommend spending 30 minutes walking through the park to see the lights, then camping out at Main Street for the night parade.

*Note: Rides that are eligible for Disney Premier Access bundles are marked with an asterisk (**).

Hong Kong Disneyland FAQs

1) is there a language barrier at hong kong disneyland.

Andy's Toybox - Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

Nope! The staff at Hong Kong Disneyland speak a mixture of Cantonese, English and Mandarin. Shows always include English translations, and there’s never a point where I didn’t understand what was going on.

2) Should I stay at a hotel near Hong Kong Disneyland?

hong kong disneyland travel package

Since the park is so accessible by public transport, it’s not crucial to stay onsite. However, there are some cool benefits, like the walking-distance proximity to Disneyland, and special  character dining opportunities .

Level up your magical experience at one of the three hotels: the grand  Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel , Art Deco-inspired  Disney’s Hollywood Hotel , and jungle-themed  Disney Explorers Lodge .

*Pro-tip: Check out Klook’s Stay+ deals — discounted bundles when you book a hotel and add on travel essentials or attraction tickets (including Hong Kong Disneyland!)

3) Is WiFi available ?

WiFi is available through most of the park and is generally reliable.

4) How long should I spend at Hong Kong Disneyland?

One day is enough to cover Hong Kong Disneyland, though you’ll need to prioritise the highlights. Opt for two days if you want to take your time and enjoy every single attraction.

5) Are there prayer facilities available?

Yes, there’s a quiet room at Mystic Point that can be used for prayers. Guests can borrow a mat and garments from Guest Relations at Main Street.

6) Are there Halal-certified restaurants?

For now, Tahitian Terrace in Adventureland is the only Halal-certified restaurant in Disneyland. Choose from a selection of Southeast Asian food — we tried the Seafood Laksa (HK$130).

2024 Hong Kong Disneyland Planning Guide

hong kong disneyland travel package

This Hong Kong Disneyland planning guide will help you figure out all you need to know to prepare for your trip: park tickets, attractions, dining, transportation, hotels, and much more! Since Hong Kong only has one park and three hotels, it’s much easier to plan a visit here than just about any other Disney resort around the world. ( Updated January 17, 2024 .)

Even with the language barrier, a first trip to Hong Kong Disneyland is so much easier than a first trip to Walt Disney World! Various nuances of international travel can make it a little tricky, but overall, it’s a pretty simple place to visit. Since Hong Kong Disneyland is not too complicated, this guide covers more about the logistics of doing the trip and getting there, plus general info about traveling to Hong Kong in general, as opposed to specifics once you’re there.

All things considered, we view HKDL as one of the cooler destinations in Hong Kong. Even for people who are not Disney fans, it’s a fun way to spend a day, and it being located near the Tian Tan Buddha and Hong Kong International Airport makes it an easy place to visit outside of the city proper. This covers everything you need to know if you’re planning a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland in 2024 or beyond. We’ve stayed at all of the hotels at HKDL, done every attraction, and eaten at (almost) every restaurant…

As for serious Disney fans, Hong Kong Disneyland is finally a park that’s on many bucket lists, with the incredibly highly regarded Mystic Manor almost alone making Hong Kong Disneyland worth visiting. (Almost.) It’s also fun to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between it and the other parks, as well as experience other unique Hong Kong Disneyland attractions.

In addition to this guide, we recommend consulting our Hong Kong City Guide on TravelCaffeine , our non-Disney planning site, for your time downtown. We also recommend checking out Macau, which is a popular “side trip” from Hong Kong. Although we visit Hong Kong regularly, we’ve only been to Macau once. It was an interesting experience and potentially worth visiting, depending upon your interests (but a “one and done” for us).

With that said, let’s get started with the guide…

What’s New & Next in 2024 at Hong Kong Disneyland

hong kong disneyland travel package

Arendelle – World of Frozen – This new land is the biggest expansion at Hong Kong Disneyland in a decade. World of Frozen is home to two attractions, including an enhanced version of the Frozen Ever After boat ride and the all-new roller coaster, Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs. World of Frozen also offers unique character experiences at the Playhouse in the Woods, plus a restaurant, retail, and other things to do.

“Momentous” Nighttime Spectacular – The new fireworks show above Castle of Magical Dreams features close to 40 classic Disney moments, nearly 150 cherished characters, and comes to life with multimedia elements, including large scale 3D projection mapping technology, choreographed fountains, illuminated water projection, lasers, theatrical lighting, pyrotechnics, and fireworks effects. What’s more, your ears will be regaled with newly-reimagined classic Disney songs. It’s a spellbinding experience that’s sure to melt hearts, warm smiles, and reawaken beloved memories.

hong kong disneyland travel package

Castle of Magical Dreams – The reimagined castle transformed the tiny Sleeping Beauty Castle into a much taller monument to 13 stories of beloved Disney Princesses and heroines. The Castle of Magical Dreams celebrates Cinderella, Tiana, Aurora, Ariel, Mulan, Snow White, Moana, Merida, Belle, Rapunzel, Pocahontas, Jasmine, plus Anna and Elsa. The central, raised stage in front of the Castle of Magical Dreams hosts a variety of daytime shows throughout the year focused on favorite Disney characters and stories through song and dance. At night, there’s the above-referenced Momentous fireworks show.

More Marvel…?   – Over the course of the last several years, Marvel attractions have debuted at Hong Kong Disneyland. Tomorrowland is now home to Stark Expo, which currently includes the Iron Man Experience simulator and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! The former is a simulator very similar to Star Tours, whereas the latter is a shooter attraction that reimagined Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.

At some point in the future, a Marvel E-Ticket  might  be built in Tomorrowland. Although originally announced several years ago, those plans are still up in the air. Between the closures and prior financial struggles–plus Disneyland in California revisiting the E-Ticket concept–it’s unclear what, if anything, else will be built.

The Hong Kong government released a report last year indicating that only about half of the original expansion budget has been spent, but it’s unclear whether the other half will still come to fruition, or if the company and city will cut their losses. See  What’s New & Coming Soon to Hong Kong Disneyland   for a rundown of what else is on the horizon–and has been recently added.

Hong Kong Disneyland as a Destination

hong kong disneyland travel package

We’ll start by noting that the U.S. State Department issued an advisory for Hong Kong, but with a Level 2 status, recommending that American travelers “exercise increased caution.” This is one level below mainland China.

For our part, we feel perfectly safe in Hong Kong and want to support the country and its people to the extent that they have a degree of autonomy, and their own economic and administrative systems. But the degree to which that’s still the case is murky, at best. I would like to think that people being willing to visit Hong Kong but not mainland China does send a message, but that’s probably wishful thinking.

Setting aside that dilemma, Hong Kong Disneyland is not a destination resort for the average American who needs to fly 16+ hours to get there. We absolutely adore Hong Kong Disneyland, but no American should make the expensive trip to Hong Kong solely for this theme park. That would just be foolish and excessive for a park that is a 1-day park for 95% of guests and a 2-day park only for extreme Disney fans. Fortunately, there are a couple of other ways to visit Hong Kong Disneyland that do make the trip reasonable.

We’ve been to Hong Kong Disneyland a few times, and each time, that has been in conjunction with another destination. Our first two times, we did Tokyo Disney Resort after HKDL, treating it as the “Gateway to Tokyo Disney Resort.” During one visit, we went to Hong Kong after Shanghai Disneyland.

There are a few reasons for stopping in Hong Kong. First, it’s very easy to book Hong Kong as a stopover on the way to Tokyo or Shanghai, which means that it’s inexpensive to add Hong Kong to an Asia trip from an airfare perspective. (We are aware that a lot of people don’t understand how stopovers work, so you can read about that in our “ How to Visit 3 Disney Destinations on 1 Airfare ” post.)

Second, while Hong Kong Disneyland has come into its own as of the last couple of years in terms of being a quality Disney theme park, it still doesn’t compare to Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, or Shanghai Disneyland. You should not fly to Asia solely for Hong Kong Disneyland.

hong kong disneyland travel package

Finally, although we don’t believe there’s a substantial language barrier at Tokyo Disney Resort or Shanghai Disneyland, English is much more common in Hong Kong (a British colony until the late 1990s), making it a good way to ease into a foreign environment for those inexperienced with international travel.

If you’re also visiting the Japan or Shanghai parks, make sure to consult our Tokyo Disneyland Trip Planning Guide and our Shanghai Disneyland Trip Planning Guide . There’s a lot more you’ll need to know for those visits! Hong Kong Disneyland is far and away the easiest of the trio to visit. It’s the most charming and laid back Disney park on the planet.

Another option is to visit Hong Kong Disneyland as part of a trip to Hong Kong and Macau. Hong Kong is frequently described as where “East Meets West,” and there’s truly something for everyone. From temples and shrines to a developed metropolis, Hong Kong has it all. It’s truly one of our favorite cities in the world.

Macau is akin to Las Vegas on steroids, and is a place where you can find UNESCO World Heritage Sites mere streets away from larger than life casinos. Macau is something else–really unique and well worth seeing. Definitely not among our favorite places in the world, but we’re glad we’ve been there before, and recommend it to others if “Vegas on Steroids but with Old World Heritage” catches your curiosity.

(For those unfamiliar with Hong Kong, although technically part of China, it’s a “Special Administrative Region” on an outlying island, meaning that visiting locations in mainland China like Shanghai and Beijing requires another flight.)

hong kong disneyland travel package

Much like Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland is a bit of a melting pot in terms of guest demographics. Many visitors come from Hong Kong, but it seems that just as many come from mainland China (there’s a pretty big difference between the two).

Hong Kong Disneyland also sees its fair share of Australians, guests from other countries in Asia, and a variety of guests from other English speaking countries. Cantonese, Mandarin, and English are all commonly-spoken languages by Cast Members at Hong Kong Disneyland. In fact, some attractions offer options for each of those three languages.

Some attractions and aspects of the park are not in English, but as English-speaking guests, we did not at all feel isolated or at a disadvantage. The things that aren’t in English are pretty easy to understand given their largely visual nature, or through subtitles. We do not view Hong Kong Disneyland as having any significant language barrier.

How Long to Visit

hong kong disneyland travel package

We sort of touched upon this in the section above, but unless you’re a really serious Disney fan, we recommend one day at Hong Kong Disneyland. Contrary to popular lore, Hong Kong Disneyland is not a half day park. It’s also probably not a two day park, though. If you do opt for two days, that gives you time to slow down and do just about everything, plus repeat favorites, have a table service meal or two, and soak up the ambiance. That much time is not necessary (except perhaps on national holidays?), though.

You can hit the highlights in a single day, and if you’re traveling all the way to Hong Kong, you might want to allocate any additional time to exploring the city. If you are in any way crunched for time, (e.g. visiting both Hong Kong and Shanghai Disneyland or Tokyo), don’t spend more than 1 of your theme park days at Hong Kong Disneyland; spend the rest of your time at Shanghai Disneyland and/or Tokyo Disney Resort.

When to Visit

hong kong disneyland travel package

Basically, you want to avoid three times: 1) the summer tourist season (not only are crowds high, but so is humidity–the area around Hong Kong Disneyland might technically be a jungle), 2) weekends, and 3) holidays, especially the Chinese New Year.

We’ve heard that crowds can be very high during these times. During our weekday off-season Christmas visit, the park seemed empty by US standards. There were several times in the middle of the day when Mystic Manor was a walk-on, and only a handful of popular, low-capacity rides had prohibitive waits.

When we returned in the summer, the humidity was killer. We will never go back to Hong Kong Disneyland between May and September ever again because the humidity is simply too brutal to have a pleasant time.

hong kong disneyland travel package

Halloween season is another time of year that Hong Kong Disneyland, but whether you should avoid it or go because of this is a good question. We went during Halloween a couple of years ago, and it was amazing. Take a look at our photos and thoughts on the elaborate (and genuinely scary!) Halloween entertainment offerings at Hong Kong Disneyland .

The one downside was that it was still pretty humid, but not nearly as bad. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back at Halloween-time, simply because the entertainment is so awesome. Crowds are a bit higher, but it’s totally worth it.

What to Pack

hong kong disneyland travel package

As always, we think the items on our Unique Disney Packing List will be helpful in any of the Disney theme parks. Specific to Hong Kong, we note that since it is a jungle (or jungle-like, at the very least) environment, plan for hot weather. Things like Frogg Togg Chilly Pads will come in handy, as will moisture wicking clothing.

In general, we would caution against overpacking. This is especially true in terms of toiletries if you’re staying at one of the on-site hotels. Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel provided a large set of toiletries in our room (large enough that it was themed to the Seven Dwarfs and there was a different item for each Dwarf!). Remember, Hong Kong is a world city, and you can purchase just about anything in Hong Kong that you’d be able to purchase at a convenience store in Orlando.

If you are going to be staying in multiple hotels in Asia, we highly recommend packing cubes or compression bags (I prefer the cubes) for organization. You can read more of our “carry-on philosophy” and which types of bags we use here .

Getting There

hong kong disneyland travel package

If you are also visiting Hong Kong as part of your trip, we recommend doing the city itself before Hong Kong Disneyland, in which case taking the MTR into Hong Kong is the way to go. Our rationale for doing the city first is because it puts you at Hong Kong Disneyland right before your flight leaving Hong Kong, and you presumably will be on more of a strict schedule (since you flight has a set departure time) on the way out than you are on the way in, and it’s easier to bank on the 10-15 minute taxi ride to the airport than it is on the 30 minute to an hour long MTR ride from downtown Hong Kong to the airport.

The MTR is very reliable–it’s the best public transportation we’ve encountered anywhere in the world–but it’s still more predictable/safer to rely on a short taxi ride to the airport than a longer train ride, which means you won’t need to build as much of a time cushion into your return airport trip.

Phone/Internet

hong kong disneyland travel package

Fortunately, we didn’t have to spend too much time researching this, as we quickly learned that Hong Kong has an impressive, free-for-visitors WiFi network . Rather than paying for anything, we have just used the free public WiFi when visiting Hong Kong.

Free WiFi is now available in Hong Kong Disneyland. However, it’s very spotty, meaning that you won’t have internet access at all in some lands. When this has happened, we just did without internet for an hour or so.

If you will literally die if you don’t post to Instagram for an hour, check out rental options. We wouldn’t want to be responsible for a headline in USA Today reading, “American Abroad Dies From Snapchat Withdrawal.” 😉

hong kong disneyland travel package

We strongly recommend having a credit card with no foreign transaction fees for any international travel and also carrying cash for emergencies (plus small merchants and taxis that may not accept credit cards), but we didn’t find ourselves using credit cards or cash much in Hong Kong. Instead, we used what’s called the Octopus card . You think Walt Disney World’s MagicBands are cool? The entire island of Hong Kong has had the tap-to-pay system down since 1997.

The Octopus card is a reloadable tap-to-pay card that can be used at a multitude of locations, from 7-11 to the trains. It’s super easy to use, and how we paid for probably 75%+ of our transactions in Hong Kong.

hong kong disneyland travel package

Hong Kong Disneyland has two official hotels, Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, both of which are walking distance to HDKL. (There’s also a shuttle if you’d prefer.) We’ve stayed at each of these hotels, and will give you a quick synopsis of each, along with links to our reviews.

  • Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is the flagship, Grand Floridian-esque hotel, and it’s slightly closer to the park. We loved Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel .
  • Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is a Deluxe-caliber hotel that is Art Deco stylized, cheaper, and about 5 minutes farther away from the park. We also had a great stay at Hollywood Hotel, and found it to be a solid value .
  • Explorers Lodge is the newest, and best, hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland. As you can read in our full Explorers Lodge Review, this is our favorite hotel at HKDL .

If you’re on a tighter budget, there are also some nearby hotels that you can find on the usual suspects of booking sites. We’ve stayed at a couple of those, and would recommend the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel. It’s basically a business class airport hotel. Really nice (and you earn points!).

In terms of perks, there’s no real benefit to staying on-site. Hong Kong Disneyland does not have Extra Magic Hours, an airport shuttle, etc. The train ride in from the Sunny Bay Station is really nice, so we don’t see the harm. The biggest benefit of staying on-site is the convenience of walking between your hotel and the park, and also being enveloped in the Disney ambiance.

We do not recommend booking a hotel in downtown Hong Kong for the entirety of your stay. If you visit downtown Hong Kong, you should do a split stay, changing hotels for the Hong Kong Disneyland leg of the trip. Much like Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland is a decent train ride from downtown, and you’ll spend a couple of hours per day in transit if you make downtown your home base for the duration of the trip.

Park Tickets

hong-kong-disneyland-194 copy

Park tickets for Hong Kong Disneyland are super cheap as compared to the US parks. You can save money on Hong Kong Disneyland tickets by purchasing from Klook, which will also allow you to instantly print your ticket. You can also use the coupon to purchase a discounted meal voucher for Hong Kong Disneyland .

One thing to strong consider if you’re going for two or three days and plan to stay on-site is to have one person in your party purchase an Annual Pass. Currently, the breakeven point is 3 days in the park for an AP. Given that most people won’t be visiting for 3 days and the fact that the lowest tier of Annual Pass has 100+ blockout dates, it’s not going to be a good option for most people. (However, Annual Passes offer a variety of discounts, including on hotels for select dates.)

hong-kong-disneyland-crystal-lotus-008

Dining at Hong Kong Disneyland is pretty simple, too. The restaurants are generally good, have a diverse selection of options (among them), and cater to a variety of dietary needs (including a couple of places that are Halal Certified). Think of it as sort of comparable to dining in the World Showcase in Epcot at Walt Disney World.

We’ve only reviewed a few Hong Kong Disneyland restaurants thus far; to read those make sure to check out our Disney Restaurant Reviews Index . We also have a Top 10 Hong Kong Disneyland Restaurants post, which is more to the point about where you should–and should not–dine.

As with Tokyo, make sure to sample Hong Kong Disneyland’s snacks. There aren’t nearly as many, but there are some good ones. These include the specialty drinks, seasonal donuts, Korean squid, turkey legs, and even Marvel-themed snacks in Tomorrowland.

hong kong disneyland travel package

Also, we highly recommend doing the dim sum meal at Crystal Lotus in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel . This needs to be booked in advance, so stop in here the first night of your trip, or call in advance. If you are interested in character dining, our favorite option is the breakfast in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. As we wrote in our Enchanted Garden Restaurant Review, this buffet is one of the best character meals in the world !

Another thing worth trying is the afternoon high tea. As mentioned above, Hong Kong is a former British colony, so this isn’t out of place like it might seem. We have done high tea at both River View Cafe and Corner Cafe on Main Street, but we noticed that it was also available at a couple of other restaurants.

There’s also a Victorian high tea in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. The presentation of our desserts was excellent, and we felt it was well worth the money for the experience. This seemed fairly popular, so consider booking day-of reservations.

That’s really the bulk of our recommendations. You can find what type of cuisine each Hong Kong Disneyland restaurant serves here . You’ll notice not many burger places, so if you’re a picky eater, your options are limited. We avoided the burgers, and found the other options to be excellent and not so exotic that anyone should be scared away from trying them.

What to Do?

hong kong disneyland travel package

In our experience, Hong Kong Disneyland did not see massive crowds right at park opening like Tokyo. Rather, the attendance builds throughout the day, with the busiest time being in the late afternoon. We’re not advocating sleeping in (especially with the park’s short operating hours), but if you do, it’s probably not the end of the world.

There’s a lot more we could include in this guide, but Hong Kong Disneyland really doesn’t need to be “over-thought,” so let’s cut it off there. We will definitely add to this based on common questions, and I’m more than happy to offer assistance and advice in the comments if you have questions.

Your Thoughts

I know this just begins to scratch the surface of planning for a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. If you have additional questions, please leave them in the comments. If you’ve been to Hong Kong Disneyland and have tips of your own, please add them in the comments—I might just borrow them for the guide itself!

I’m curious, why do you say HKDL “does not compare” to Shanghai DL?

' src=

This is super helpful. We’re planning a Japan trip and when I run the numbers it is nearly the exact same cost to add a Hong Kong stopover. Might as well drop in! Thanks for all the hard work that you put in to write these articles.

' src=

You write like HK is some remote, unknown island! It isn’t! Also, why would you fly between HK and Shanghai? Take a super comfortable train or bus across!

' src=

??? Weird take. . .I didn’t get that from this article at all. As for paying for the train to Shanghai; it sounds like a decent option. But Tom also discusses the hard-to-beat idea of stopping over on a flight “for free” so. . .?

We hope to finally make it to HKD/Tokyo Disney again once everything opens up (we are Disney cruisers and have been to most parks many times over). I’ll be referring to these guides before any others – not only due to their Disney expertise but for practical suggestions for vibrant HK and Japan as well.

' src=

Why would you take a bus between Shanghai and Hong Kong? That’s a crazy long ride as the two cities are very far. Even a flight takes you nearly 3 hours.

' src=

This is a wonderful place! So magical! I wish one day I can see Disneyland in real life! Can’t wait to go there with my family. Thanks for sharing!

' src=

Unrelated to park hopping, but any news on the walkway from Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom?

' src=

There are few locals at HK Disney. Most Chinese are mainland tourists. It’s been 5 years since my last visit. I plan to be there next week again. Hoping it’s empty because of protests. Debating on a 1 or 2 day ticket… Curious to see if there is any diff on the DCA Chinese New year outfits vs HK Disney New year’s outfits.

It’s been about a year since my DLR/DCA anual pass expired… but I recall Turkey legs are available in California Adventures.

In my opinion, kids could also get toys at other times if they have been very good and good kids all the time. If there is any kind of trip or Disneyland going, then I think the kids should get something out there because the things they bought from the trips are still very valuable souvenirs that are not sold in shops, and every thing that is bought, will be remembered for their wonderful trips.

I highly recommend that you let the children choose what they like very much, their biggest dream and buy it. children may not like them at all.Purchase only the things that they really wanted and make them really happy.Sometimes they could rarely allow children to have the toys they deserve with their great nobility. If children are still very good, then, very rarely, they could just as well afford more expensive things. Very expensive things, then for the holidays.

I advise against banning things that children really like, because then they start plans to just want more.I advise not to buy all the time, but sometimes very rarely still be able to afford something if they have been very good children for a long time.I certainly also recommend that you let the children choose from online stores, because there are just so many rare, popular, exciting, cakey, and sweet things that may not be available in stores.

Hello there! Dear parents! Every child has the right to keep all the toys because they are valuable! If you have space, let them keep everything in their childhood! Keep the toys, if the kids like them very much!!!

Could you please forward these messages to the other people and parents too, because it is very important for all of us that every single kid can get the best childhood ever and their dreams should also come true and they will be very happy then!!!It will teach all the parents, how to give the best childhood for their children!!!This is the best lesson for all the parents!!!Thank You!

Most Important Hong Kong Travel Notes

Visa policy of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is different from that of Mainland China. Hong Kong provides visa exemption to certain certificate owners for any purpose of visiting, and visa/entry permit to citizens (ordinary passport holders) of 170 countries. Otherwise, you need to apply for and get a visa to go to Hong Kong as required. Note: A Chinese Visa is not valid for visiting Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, which are considered as third regions from mainland China. Check Hong Kong Visa Free Countries List & Visa-free Period >>

Hong Kong boasting the top busiest international airport among the world serves about 170 routes to overseas cities and regions in other continents, including New York, Los Angeles, London, Sydney, Toronto, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, etc. Every day, more than 1,000 flights take off at Hong Kong International Airport and need within 5 hours to reach half of the world’s population.

Besides, Hong Kong is very well connected with many cities in Mainland China. Travelers can board a flight to reach Hong Kong from Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guilin, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and other nearly 50 cities. Also, Hong Kong West Kowloon Station creates new way to get there by high speed trains directly from other 44 cities in the Mainland, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guilin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Changsha, etc.

(a)Guangzhou to Hong Kong: Guangzhou launches more than 30 daily G trains every day from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Hong Kong, with a whole riding for only about 1 hour. (b) Shenzhen to Hong Kong: there are about 80 high speed trains depart from Shenzhen North Station and Shenzhen Futian Station there very frequently, which takes only 15-20 minutes to get to Hong Kong Kowloon downtown.

Several best ways are provided to travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, including high speed train, metro, coach/bus or private car.

● By high speed train: The most convenient and fastest way to go between. Travelers can take high speed train from Shenzhen Futian Railway Station to Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station or vice versa. Travelers need to be checked your valid documents at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station no matter you leave or enter Hong Kong. The high speed train journey takes only 14 minutes.

● By metro: Travelers can take Hong Kong MTR East Rail Line to arrive at Luo Wu Station. Then, go through the immigration at Luohu Port (06:30-24:00) to enter Shenzhen. It is suitable for independent travelers.

● By coach/bus: There are some cross-border buses serving from Huanggang Port to many stations in Hong Kong, including Wan Chai, Prince Edward, Kam Sheung Road, and Hong Kong International Airport. However, crossing this Huanggang Port by cross-border buses, you need to get off the bus when arrive at the port and go through the clearance procedure with all your luggage and belongings. After your customs clearance, come out from the customs building and get on the bus to Hong Kong.

● By private car: If you go with China Discovery, we’ll normally use Huanggang Port or Shenzhen Bay Port to go through the immigration.

Both group tour and private tour are available in Hong Kong. You can choose your way to explore Hong Kong based on your time, interests and budget.

● Group tour: If you take a group tour, it means you’ll be picked up at an assigned place, hop on a big bus, enjoy sightseeing with other travelers and then be sent back at an assigned place. It is fixed with some routes, taking either half day or one full day. It is money-saving!

● Private tour: Going with China Discovery in private way, it means you’ll have your personal drivers and cars and be picked up at your hotel and visit the customizable sites/attractions and be sent back to your hotel. It is very flexible! Compared with group tour, it costs much higher.

If you want to explore Hong Kong with full enjoyment at a budget price, it is a good idea to combine group tour and private tour into “one”. You can choose half day group tour to see the classic sites on Hong Kong Island, or one day group tour to Lantau Island, local featured group to explore Kowloon, and the other time and sites to explore in private way. And if you like, you can see it on your own. For more itineraries design info, please contact our professional travel consultants.

Money & Currency: Hong Kong has its own official currency, called Hong Kong dollar. There are banknotes of HK$10, HK$20, HK$50, HK$100, HK$500, HK$1000, and coins of 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, HK$1, HK$2, HK$5, and HK$10. Usually, the exchange rate is HK$1=USD0.128, HK$1=CNY0.88, HK$1=0.1027GBP. For convenience and better rate, it is suggested to exchange some Hong Kong dollars before you go.

Electricity, Voltage & Sockets: The standard in Hong Kong is 220v, 50Hz. And most hotel bathrooms also have outlets for 100v. Most outlets in Hong Kong are for three-pronged UK-style plugs. A power adapter is suggested to prepare for charging your mobile phones, cameras, tablets, etc. And that can be provided in some hotels or found in some supermarkets.

Languages: Chinese and English are both the official language of Hong Kong. Cantonese, Mandarin and English are all frequently used there. Nearly 90% people there speak Cantonese. However, as some people can speak English, especially many young people. Chinese and English are used for signs and notes (Cantonese, Mandarin and English for voice broadcasting on all MTR and most public buses), it is easy to travel in Hong Kong for a foreign visitor.

Hong Kong houses an extremely large quantity of accommodation in downtown and suburb areas. Kowloon and Hong Kong Islands offer more options and are largely more chosen by travelers and business visitors. From world top luxury 5-6 star hotels, to average comfortable hotels to budget homestay and cheap hostels and even berths can be found galore, especially at Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Central, Causeway Bay, Admiralty, Wan Chai, Sheung Wan, etc.

For most first-timers to Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui is a top choice, where fabulous view of the Victoria Harbor, many shopping centers and museums are within short distances. Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei are good to savor Hong Kong local culture with famous Ladies Market, Temple Market and a good portion of budget hotels. Causeway Bay offer many reputable accommodations and is favored for shopping and family visitors. To seek the night life and left historical feature from the colonial era, Central should be at the top of your list.

Many travelers choose to do one day tour from Hong Kong to Macau by ferry. Macau is a popular tourist destination, where a cluster of eye-pleasing heritage building relics, rich types of flavoring food and snacks, strong atmosphere of traditional China and Western world, etc. can be savored handy. Usually, visitors take a fast ferry from Central or Tsim Sha Tsui to Taipa or Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal to start the one-day exploration to the Ruins of St. Paul Cathedral, Senado Square, Section of Old City Wall, A Ma Temple, and Border of Gate and try some tasting Portuguese and Macao food, such as the Portuguese egg tarts, etc. And then, you can take a ferry back to Hong Kong or fly to your next destination very easily.

China’s Greater Bay Area covers Hong Kong, Macau and nine cities in Guangdong Province (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing). Among all the cities and routes, Hong Kong - Macau - Shenzhen - Guangzhou is the most popular way to see all the highlights in the bay area, taking about 8 days.

Different people come to Hong Kong for different reasons. No matter you are businesspersons, family with kids, foodies, layover transiting, Hong Kong has something to offer. To travel beyond Hong Kong, you can head to Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Shanghai, Xian, Beijing and other destinations in China. Please feel free to tell us any idea you are thinking about, and our professional travel expert from China Discovery will help you plan your Hong Kong China trip with sincerity and rich experience and knowledge!

Disneyland Hong Kong Guide: Tickets, Ride, Itinerary + Budget

by thepinay solobackpacker | Sep 12, 2023 | Hong Kong | 4 comments

Few things in life can make us feel like a kid again, and Hong Kong Disneyland is  one of them. It’s the main reason why my sister and I first visited Hong Kong a few years ago, and we did not regret it. Like I said on my Hong Kong Travel Guide Blog, the trip was really special. The Disney Castle’s fireworks display was so beautiful it made us cry. The feeling is so surreal, like a childhood dream that finally came true. We spent 2 days in Disneyland Hong Kong because we’re just so mesmerized and wanted to slow down and soak up the atmosphere.  To make the most of your time here, best to plan your trip and decide the rides that you want to try  and attractions that you want to visit. Here’s my Disneyland Hong Kong Guide to help you plan your itinerary.

TRAVEL BLOG CONTENTS

DISNEYLAND HONG KONG  PRE-TRIP PLANNING

When is the best time to visit.

Hong Kong is a year-round destination due to its sub-tropical location.  It has 4 seasons: summer, winter, autumn and spring. The months of October to November and March to April are the best months to visit Hong Kong due to its pleasant weather, just avoid the weekends and holidays if you are visiting Disneyland as it can get pretty crowded.  June to August is hot and humid, which can be brutal.  May to September is a typhoon season, so if you have booked during these months, make sure to check the weather updates.  Meanwhile, the months between December to February are the coldest months in Hong Kong.

How many days to spend in Hong Kong Disneyland?

Disneyland Hong Kong is not a half-day park, you will miss a lot if you only visit for 1 day.  And with the hefty entrance fee, best to maximise your time here.  I think a 1-day visit would be enough to cover the highlights of Disneyland Hong Kong. You can get a FASTPASS to avoid long queues.  I will discuss that below .

Now if you are a huge Disney fan, then 2 days in Hong Kong Disneyland would probably be the best for you, as this will give you enough time to cover the entire theme park and soak up the atmosphere here.

Disneyland Hong Kong Open Hours:

Disneyland Hong Kong operating hours is 10:30 AM –  8:45 PM every Monday to Thursday and 10:00 AM – 8:45 PM from Friday to Sunday.

  • Check the “Return Time” shown on the sign. If the return time is good for you, you can scan your valid Hong Kong Disneyland ticket at the FASTPASS machine.

Though I haven’t stayed here yet, I’ve visited this twice during my Hong Kong trip because we usually dine here.  It has an opulent 6-star lobby and a Victorian-inspired building.  Also check out its  well-manicured garden with a maze.

Jungle River Cruise –  Ride a weathered tramp steamer and enjoy a fascinating cruise along a tropical river where you’ll encounter a pool of playful elephants, hippos, gorillas, king cobras and giant spider, a headhunter and the iconic Canyon of the Gods.

Tarzan’s Tree House –  Ride this raft that will take you to Tarzan’s Tree House.

  • Fantasy Garden –  You might meet and greet your favorite Disney character in this beautiful, well-manicured garden that was inspired by Fantasi
  • It’s a Small World –  My favorite ride in Hong Kong Disneyland because I thinks it’s therapeutic.  Hop on a musical boat while singing along to the classic world peace song and sail along the river fringed by stunning, intricate papier-mache and several traditionally dressed dolls from different parts of the world.
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh –  Ride on a gigantic Hunny Pot as you glide along the settings of Winnie the Pooh and immerse in its stories.

5. Toy Story Land

As you might have surmised, Toy Storyland will shrink you and transport you to Andy’sbackyard where you can play with the Toy story character, just like in the movie.  This zone is packed with rides and attractions for children and adult.

disneyland hong kong - toy story

Toy Story Land Popular Rides:

  • Toy Soldier Parachute Jump –  Hop on the 6-person parachute jump vehicle and float up a 25-meter-tall parachute tower for stunning, panoramic view of Mystic Manor and Grizzly Gulch! Then, experience being dropped from the sky with a parachute, over and over again!
  • RC Racer –  I tried this roller coaster ride on my 1 st visit, and it almost made me puke! Haha If you like gravity-defying rides, this one’s for you, but if not, skip this!  The RC Racer is inspired by the remote-controlled car (RC) of Andy in the Disney Pixar movie Toy Story.  This ride will send you speeding back and forth on a towering U-shaped track.
  • Slinky Dog Spin –  Slinky Dog Spin will remind you of Andy’s good friend Slinky the Dog, with a distinct spring body. This ride will take you up and down as Slinky Dog follow a ring-shaped route.

  6. Mystic Point

This themed zone in Disneyland Hong Kong is one of my favorites! The Mystic Point is set in 1908 where supernatural events and mysteries happens.

disneyland hong kong - mystic 2

Mystic Point Popular Attractions:

  • Mystic Manor –  We visited the lovely Mystic Manor, home of Lord Henry Mystic and got to hop on the mystic magneto-electric carriage to see his extensive art and artifacts collection and got to witness how his beautifully carved Balinese music box turned inanimate objects to life with its music dust!
  • Garden of Wonders –  Right in front of the Mystic Manor is a special garden that looks ordinary at first sight, but once you roam this well-manicured place, you will discover varied archaeological relics that form interesting 3D illusions.

7. Grizzly Gulch

This themed zone features a wild west concept, peppered mining mountains, golden nuggets, geyser, town jail and 19 th century-inspired establishments. You can also meet and greet your favorite Disney character sporting old wild western styles outfit here.

hong kong disneyland travel package

Grizzly Gulch Popular Ride:

Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars – Ride the mine train that will swoop you around a winding track, past jagged cavern! This is one exhilarating ride, not for the faint hearted!

HONG KONG DISNEYLAND PARADE

A visit to Hong Kong Disneyland won’t be complete without watching the street parade!

FLIGHTS OF FANTASY PARADE

disneyland hong kong - fantasy parade

My favorite street parade as it packed with Disney characters in gorgeous floats! Catch Mickey and friends, Toy Story, The Lion King, The Jungle Book, and more! Catch this performance along the street every 1:45 PM!

DISNEY PAINT THE NIGHT PARADE

disneyland hong kong - paint the night

Another beautiful parade, happens every night in Disneyland Hong Kong is the Disney Paint the Night Parade.  Catch your favorite Disney Characters infused with lights and colors! Catch Belle, Tinker Belle, Buzz Lightyear, Sheriff Woody, Ariel, and many more!  You can watch this every 8:45 PM at the main street of Disneyland.

What’s New in Hong Kong Disneyland

1. New and Long-Time Disney Friends – At the different corners of the park during the “Carnival of Stars”, you’ll get to meet the new faces and some long-time Disney friends.

At the Annex on the Main Street, USA, you can queue to meet Baymax and Hiro from Big Hero 6 .

Watch out for the grand entrance of Wakanda’s King – T’Challa, also known as Black Panther , from the technically-advanced African nation. Lean the traditional Wakandan greeting and snap a photo with him!

HK DISNEYLAND - CHARACTERS

At Tomorrowland, meet Groot , as he joins guests for a very special Heroic encounter!

Catch Spider Man as he swings into action and shows off his bold moves in Tomorrowland.

2.  Karibuni Marketplace – Opened this year beside the Theater in Wild Adventureland, Karibuni Marketplace takes guests in the lively colors, sights and sounds of Africa. We had fun playing games here like Blongo Balls, Plinko and Wheel of Fortune where we were able to take home some cutesy prizes like stuffed animals and Disney pins! There are also snacks being exclusively sold here!

And oh, watch out for King Louie and Baloo from the Jungle Book, Carl and Russell from Up, Gennie and Jasmine from Aladdin, and Timon and Rafiki from the Lion King!

3. Moana: A Homecoming Celebration – Moana fans will surely rejoice as you can now meet this beauty in Adventureland. Moana: A Homecoming Celebration is the first attraction added toDisneyland Hong Kong’s expansion.

4. Water Play Street Party- Disneyland Hong Kong has just introduced the first-ever Disney-Pixar themed “Water Play Street Party”, featuring Disney Pixar stars, such as Mr. and Mrs. Incredibles from the Incredibles, and Toy Story characters. This street party is along Main Street, USA, where guests will be soaked up in a water-filled summer celebration!

5. The Transformation of Hong Kong Disneyland’s Castle – Who isn’t excited to see the new Disneyland Hong Kong Castle? The new castle will honor the 13 Disneyland Princess stories and is expected to take Disneyland Hong Kong to new heights will all new day and night entertainment! The makeover is still ongoing and guests are welcome to share their Disneyland Hong Kong photo on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateaDisneyCastle to help create a Disney mosaic together!

HONG KONG DISNEYLAND ITINERARY

hong kong disneyland travel package

Here’s a sample Hong Kong Disneyland itinerary, good for 1 day. Feel free to tweak this depending on your schedule.

DISNEYLAND HONG KONG BUDGET

disneyland hong kong - carnival of stars

If you are wondering how much to spend in Hong Kong Disneyland, here’s a sample budget. But do note that this doesn’t include the food, because it depends on where you plan to eat.  Food in Disneyland is quite hefty, and you can’t bring your own food. If you are on a tight budget, there are food trucks outside the park.  You can see them half way to the train station. Klook also offers a discounted voucher, you can RESERVE HERE .

Hong Kong Disneyland Travel Tips

hong kong disneyland travel package

Take note of these Etiquette and Rules inside Disneyland Hong Kong:

  • Crowds would usually stand along the street when watching the Disney Street Parade or the WE Love Mickey Mouse Show.  If you want to have a good view, go there early so you can snag a spot. Don’t go around telling people to sit down.
  • Beat the queue with the FASTPASS.
  • Arrive early and go to the far attractions like Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point first since most likely the crowd will gather at Main Street and Fantasy Land.
  • Wear proper attire, 16 years or older are not allowed to wear costumes.
  • Wear comfortable shoes or footwear as you will walk most of the time.
  • During summer, bring umbrella, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect yourself from the harsh sun.
  • Smoke in designated smoking areas only.
  • Don’t bring food, alcoholic beverages or any illegal substance inside the park.
  • If you are really on a budget, there are food trucks outside Hong Kong Disneyland where you can buy and eat reasonably-priced food.
  • Bag or boxes that are larger than 56 cm x 36cm x 23cm cannot be brought inside the park.
  • Flying of drone and use of selfie stick, large tripod, folding stools, and chairs are prohibited inside the park.

Latest Hong Kong Tours Reviews from Our Customers

Wayne C

I'm a Singaporean traveller who booked a private solo tour. I chanced upon AOT after I googled and decided to travel last min. My planner from AOT named Rita was very patient towards all my request and changes, she is knowledgeable and provided excellent advice for my 8 days trip arrangement from Shanghai, Zhangjiajie N Chongqing. Although there were very minor hiccups just like any overseas holiday, it was still a well planned trip.

I would like thank all my tour guides and drivers (师父) for looking after me so well. Special mention to Zhangjiajie Tour Guide named Ms Rita Wang, she looks after her client with her sincerest heart into the smallest details such as eating habits and my lifestyle. (Example: Turning A/C on knowing we Singaporeans can't live without A/C in car & also I don't even have to look at menu to order food becos she knows what I want to eat) Also thank you 杨师父 who tagged team with Rita, he is a very good skilled safe driver and knows how look after me during long haul journey drive inter cities.

I would strongly reccomended anyone who wants to travel to look for Rita or her colleagues from Asia Odyssey Travel.

Lastly, thank you to all whom I've crossed path during my trip. I'm grateful to all people in China for the warm hospitality. 感恩大家的招待和爱。

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT TOKYO DISNEY RESORT?

The weather’s different, the holidays are different, and the local traffic patterns are very different from North American Disney parks. You won’t want to arrive in Japan and question if you’ve timed it right. How many days do you need to see everything? Is it best to wait to visit after Fantasy Springs opens at Tokyo DisneySea?

When you think about planning your visit, keep these guidelines in mind:

You’ll probably want four days to see the parks. | If you’re a major Disney fan — like many Wishful Thinking clients — you’ll probably want at least four days to properly explore Tokyo Disney’s parks.

Tokyo Disneyland’s shows, restaurants, parades, and shops are completely unique. You’ll want to see them all. Other one-of-a-kind attractions — like their new Beauty & the Beast attraction, Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, Monsters Inc. Ride & Go Seek, and others — are so cool that you’ll want to ride them more than once to notice new details!

Tokyo DisneySea is Disney’s best theme park. You could easily spend an entire day exploring the astonishing theming without getting on a single ride. Nearly all the attractions at DisneySea are unique to Tokyo; you’ll want more than one ride. Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage, The Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Nemo & Friends SeaRider are all originals. Even the Tower of Terror has an entirely unique story.

If you only have a day or two, we’ll help you prioritize what to see. If this might be your one and only visit, give yourself sufficient time to explore everything.

On June 6 2024, Fantasy Springs will open at DisneySea.  | This will feature the most state-of-the-art projects that Disney Imagineering is currently working on, with attractions and lands themed to Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan. After new concept art and the names of each attraction were revealed in August 2023, it’s fair to say that anticipation is absolutely through the roof. If you want to avoid Tokyo’s biggest crowds, show up before this land opens. If you want to see the best that Disney has to offer, wait until after this land opens.

Plan for intense jet lag. | If you’re arriving from North or South America, It isn’t wise to visit Disney immediately upon arrival. Why? Because you’ll be dealing with intense jet lag symptoms. For the first two or three days, you’ll feel like you’re sleepwalking. Your body will be saying, “Cannot do this right now. Must. Lie. Down. Immediately.” You’ll be foggy-brained and exhausted.

Plan for Tokyo sightseeing first. | At the start of your trip, give yourself a few full days in Tokyo. Fill your itinerary with flexible sightseeing plans. Book a comfy, centrally-located hotel where you can sleep in or take mid-day breaks without fearing that you’re wasting the precious time you’re supposed to be in the parks. Save your Disney days until after your body has had some time to adjust. | See our expert tourism tips ▸

Expect massive crowds. | 38 million people live in Tokyo Disney Resort’s backyard. On Saturdays and Sundays — all year long — you’ll see an influx of local families with kids and huge groups of teenagers who crowd the parks. If there’s any way to visit during the week — at least before June — it’s a bit more chill. However, when Fantasy Springs opens, you should expect sold-out peak capacity days every day of the week until the fall.

Prepare to wait in lines. | At Disney, there are no VIP Tours, and FastPass was discontinued. If you cannot handle waiting in queues, do not go to Tokyo. It’s that simple. The Japanese queue up for everything in Tokyo, even beyond Disney, from train stations to restrooms to ramen shops. That’s how things are in the world’s largest city.

Avoid Japan & China’s major holidays. |  The parks’ busiest periods are during  Golden Week (late April into early May), Obon (August), and the New Year (Dec 31 through early January). Hotel rates are higher throughout the country. historically Chinese New Year brings many vacationers to Japan, and Chinese tourists love Tokyo Disney Resort. The Western holidays of Christmas, Easter, & Halloween don’t bring major crowds — they do, however, bring delightful decorations to the parks.

Tokyo’s weather is similar to Washington, D.C. | Tokyo has four distinct seasons. Summer is hot and humid, fall is cooler and dry. Winter sees frigid temperatures & occasional frozen rain / snow. Spring tends to arrive a bit early, with warm sunshine and springtime showers. Tokyo’s Disney parks are designed for this weather, with more indoor queues than you’ll find in Florida or California. But even sub-zero temperatures don’t drive away crowds — guests show up in their warm winter coats & fuzzy character hats, and make it a fun day with hot cocoa and warm hugs. Extended rainy days — like during a fall typhoon — do tend to inspire the locals to stay home.

COMING SOON | WHAT IS FANTASY SPRINGS AT TOKYO DISNEYSEA?

Curious about the enchanting additions coming to Tokyo Disney Resort’s Fantasy Springs,  opening on  June 6, 2024? If you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like to see Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival or sail up into the sky on pirate ship with Peter Pan, get ready for an adventure like no other. Disney’s just announced all new details for Fantasy Springs, its captivating attractions, dining, and more!

WHAT IS FANTASY SPRINGS?

Get ready for a whole new world of Disney magic with all-new state-of-the-art attractions, restaurants & entertainment inspired by Tangled, Frozen, and Peter Pan. The eighth themed port at Tokyo DisneySea promises a paradise of enchantment, featuring three waterfront areas: Rapunzel’s Forest, Peter Pan’s Never Land, and Frozen Kingdom.

At last — you’ll see the light! Join  Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival as you sail away on a romantic boat ride, reliving the heartwarming tale of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.  Head to The Snuggly Duckling  for a delicious meal in a brand new restaurant that’s ready to refresh all your ruffians.

Never-grow-up adventures will unfold in Peter Pan’s Never Land.  Explore a swashbuckling pirate ship playground, then chow down at Lookout Cookout, the hideout for the Lost Kids.  Peter Pan will host an all-new one-of-a-kind attraction that soars far beyond Peter Pan’s Flight. Little ones are sure to giggle as they help Tinker Bell deliver packages in Pixie Hollow on the Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies .

Frozen Kingdom will beckon you into the unknown on  Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey . You’ll relive the heartwarming sisters’ story and enjoy captivating views of fjord cliffs at the  Royal Banquet of Arendelle restaurant. The park’s newest snacks will tempt your tastebuds at Oaken’s OK Foods.

WHAT WILL I NEED IN ORDER TO VISIT FANTASY SPRINGS?

Tokyo’s just announced that all guests who want to see Fantasy Springs will need a valid park ticket for Tokyo Disney Sea plus at least one of the following:

  • A Standby Pass, which is essentially just like one of Disneyland / WDW’s Virtual Queues — it’s free. You’ll request one in the Tokyo Disney app on the day of your visit after you enter the park.
  • Disney Premier Access — which is just like an Individual Lightning Lane — it’s available for a fee. You will be able to purchase them within the app on the day of your visit after you enter the park — or — receive one as a perk of booking a specific Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Package. View the latest updates on Premier Access ▸

TDR has announced that guests will only be able to obtain these entry methods after they have passed through the turnstiles. This is one reason why Early Park Entry is being restricted to Tokyo DisneySea; after June 6, only the guests of the Hotel Miracosta and the Fantasy Springs Hotel will have early park entry at DisneySea. (Disney’s said that this is subject to change.) It’s reasonable to assume that not everyone who enters Tokyo DisneySea on a given day will gain access to Fantasy Springs. (If everyone did, guests would lack a strong incentive to purchase Disney’s Premier Access for entry.)

WHAT IS THE NEW 1-DAY PASSPORT – FANTASY SPRINGS MAGIC?

It’s a new type of 1-day ticket that bundles together Tokyo DisneySea theme park entry with a Disney Premier Access pass for Fantasy Springs. It guarantees that you’ll gain entry to the land. Currently, they’re only available to those who book new type of Disney Vacation Package — although they may become available to regular ticket buyers. We’re awaiting details.

WHAT IS THE FANTASY SPRINGS HOTEL?

Built right into the perimeter of the park, the elegant new Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel brings enchanting luxury accommodations and Art Nouveau to Fantasy Springs. With rooms and restaurants that gaze directly into the land, the Fantasy Springs Restaurant will offering buffet-style dining, La Libellule will serve gourmet French cuisine, and Grand Paradis Lounge will offer a relaxing salon with wide open windows and one-of-a-kind views. Read on below for more info about Disney’s resort hotels.

WHAT ARE THE BEST HOTELS AT TOKYO DISNEY RESORT?

If this is your only chance to visit, you’ll want to be comfortable. Let’s explore the Disney resort hotels — plus the hotels along the Disney resort monorail line. And, let’s discuss why you shouldn’t stay in central Tokyo for your Disney days.

THE LAY OF THE LAND

Before you think about where to stay, let’s cover some navigational basics:

Tokyo is huge. | You can easily spend two hours traveling from one side of the city to the other. That’s why you’ll want to stay right near Tokyo Disney Resort during your theme park days. Stay in central Tokyo when you’re sightseeing.

Tokyo Disney Resort is located on the distant southeastern waterfront. | It’s about as far from central Tokyo as Disneyland is from central Los Angeles. It’s in the neighborhood of Urayasu, along the shores of Tokyo Bay. Technically, Urayasu is not in Tokyo — it’s in the neighboring Shiba prefecture. The train station nearest to Tokyo Disney Resort is Maihama .

View the location on Google Maps ▸

Traveling to Tokyo Disney Resort can be a hike. | Depending on which train you catch (and the time of day), reaching Urayasu can take 30 minutes from Tokyo Station, 35 minutes from Shinagawa Station, and 45 minutes (to an hour) from Shinjuku Station, Shibuya Station, and Ikebukuro Station. Like any major city, there are rush hour delays. If you’re traveling here directly from either international airport —  Narita (NRT) or Haneda (HND) — trains and shared shuttles are your best transfer options. The Friendly Limousine Airport Bus is slowly resuming service after pausing its operations.

More on traveling from HND  Airport ▸ | More on traveling from NRT Airport ▸

The resort area includes five Disney-owned hotels and six Official Hotels (aka ‘Good Neighbor’ hotels) | All but one of them are accessible along Tokyo Disney Resort’s monorail line. Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel is a quick shuttle ride away.

DISNEY-THEMED HOTELS AT TOKYO DISNEY RESORT

The official owner of Tokyo Disney Resort is the Oriental Land Company (OLC) , which owns and manages the following Disney-themed hotels.

HELPFUL TIP: At each link, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and you’ll be able to view a simple calendar that reveals which dates have rooms remaining and the nightly rate (in Japanese Yen) of the lowest-price available room. As of today, hotel rates and booking are only available 120 days in advance. We’ve got expert tips and advice about how to start planning now; complete this form and we’ll send you three very helpful FAQ guides. Be sure to also see our information about Disney Travel Packages below.

• Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel | Opening in June 2024 | Luxury / Deluxe |  Disney’s newest luxury hotel experience will open on June 6th when the land itself opens.  The hotel is divided into two areas: the Grand Chateau offers Luxury accommodations and amenities (including line-skipping privileges) , while the Fantasy Chateau is classified as a Deluxe hotel. Its three new restaurants will offer beautiful views of the park, and this hotel benefits with unique ticketed access to Fantasy Springs plus the 15-minute early park entry directly into Tokyo DisneySea. | View more details about the hotel ▸

• Tokyo Disneyland Hotel | Deluxe | Luxurious, classical, elegant. Similar Victorian-era design as Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando, but nicer (if you can believe it) . Located just outside the monorail station entrance to Disneyland park. Some rooms feature views of Cinderella Castle; you may see fireworks in the distance. You’ll find art inspired by Alice in Wonderland, beautifully appointed rooms with subtle theme details, themed suites, and a gorgeous lobby with high-end restaurants and cafes. | View the room availability & rate calendar ▸

• Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta | Deluxe | Ornate, sumptuous, opulent. The world’s only hotel located inside a Disney theme park. Baroque design invites you to relax within an 18th-century Italian waterfront village, inspired by Portofino and Venice. Its main façade serves as the entry point to Tokyo DisneySea’s Mediterranean Harbor. Many rooms feature water views of the park’s nightly spectacular. Its recently renovated, sophisticated rooms feature rich brocades, tapestries, and wood-carved furnishings. The stunning domed lobby features fresco paintings and entryways to a collection of delicious restaurants. | View the room availability & rate calendar ▸

• Disney Ambassador Hotel | Deluxe | Clever, cool, comfortable. Art deco design evokes 1920’s – 1930’s railway sleeper cars and Atlantic steamships. Although the rooms are simply appointed (on par with a Moderate-level hotel at Walt Disney World) the lobby, pools and common areas feel like a Deluxe resort. Around every corner, you’ll find extravagant details and gleaming artwork from the period. The hotel is located near the back of  Disneyland Park, but it’s a bit too far to walk. Entrances to both parks are just a few minutes away via the monorail. Dining includes a gourmet table service restaurant, a casual diner, and some of Tokyo’s only character dining, Chef Mickey’s. | View the room availability & rate calendar ▸

• Toy Story Hotel | Moderate | Colorful, whimsical, imaginative. Tokyo’s newest Disney-themed resort hotel, located right along the monorail line. Think: Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World / Disneyland Paris — the vibe is identical.  Lots of two-dimensional drawings and oversized toy-sized architecture. Rooms are inviting and full of clever details, like an Etch-A-Sketch TV screen and Andy’s iconic bedroom wallpaper: blue sky & white clouds. The hotel’s extensive original merch, kid-friendly play areas, and casual affordable eateries make this family-friendly hotel ideal for guests of all ages.  | View the room availability & rate calendar ▸

• Tokyo Celebration Hotel | Value | Fanciful, cute, casual. The only Disney-themed hotel located beyond the resort, about a 15-minute complimentary shuttle drive away. Formerly the Palm & Fountain Terrace Hotel, Oriental Land Company began to transform these hotels a few years ago by adding all-new Disney designs to its rooms, lobbies and pools.  The comfortable rooms are modestly-appointed. The amusing, brightly-colored murals and various bed configurations, however, are designed to appeal to families with young kids. Affordable nightly rates make this hotel one of the most economical lodging choices for Tokyo Disney Resort. | View the room availability & rate calendar ▸

TOKYO DISNEY RESORT OFFICIAL HOTELS

In addition to the hotels above, Tokyo Disney Resort also features six official hotels which are located along the resort monorail.   These are similar to what you might know in the USA as Good Neighbor Hotels. OLC doesn’t own or manage them, but they meet the resort’s high standards for cleanliness, service, and amenities. Each of them has an on-site official Tokyo Disney Resort ticket & planning desk.

Two of the hotels are owned by American brands, and are exceptionally accommodating for English-speaking travelers.

HELPFUL TIP | Unlike the Disney hotels above, these hotels may be booked up to 1 year in advance, and Wishful Thinking can set up your hotel reservation .

• Hilton Tokyo Bay | Modern, efficient, familiar. Our top choice for where to stay if you’re not in one of the Disney hotels. This large, recently renovated resort hotel feels like any upscale Hilton you might find back home, with polished marble floors and sleek, modern décor. The Front Desk staff speaks impeccable English. Standard rooms are divided into two design categories — one is more serene and classic, the other more colorful and contemporary — but you can’t go wrong here. The on-site restaurants are big — if a tad bit overpriced — with impressive menus that cater to North American, European, and Asian travelers. Best of all, the hotel’s just a quick monorail ride away from the theme parks. | Get pricing ▸

• Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay | Pleasant, reliable, anodyne. A perfectly nice hotel that guarantees a comfortable stay for international guests. It’s probably due for some refreshed décor and room renovations, but you’re unlikely to remember what the hotel looks like when you’re staying this close to the Disney parks. Like the Hilton, it’s especially accommodating for English-speaking guests. | Get pricing ▸

CHOOSING A HOTEL IN CENTRAL TOKYO

Tokyo’s main sights aren’t near Tokyo Disney Resort. You’ll want a separate hotel in central Tokyo for your sightseeing days. Some guidelines:

Choose a cool neighborhood. | You’ll probably have the easiest time getting around the city if you stay in Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, Roppongi, or Ginza. These neighborhoods are all full of terrific dining, elaborate shopping, and vibrant street life.  I f we had to pick just one neighborhood, we’d probably point you toward Shinjuku. But it’s a tough call; they’re all great.

Choose a hotel near a train station. | As we explain below, Tokyo is all about train travel. If possible, select a hotel that’s within a comfortable walking distance of a big train station.

Compare North American hotel brands vs. Japanese lodging. | If you don’t have a lot of international travel experience, try to minimize your culture shock. A North American hotel chain might be your smartest option. Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, and IHG  all have properties in Tokyo.

What’s the biggest advantage? Familiarity. Their websites, support staff, and on-site front desk staff will work in fluent English. In the guest rooms, you’ll find familiar bed sizes and amenities. If you need to modify / cancel your booking, you’ll be able to rely on English language phone support. When you’re visiting an unfamiliar country, that can help guarantee more restful nights.

However, if you’re an adventurous, seasoned traveler and you’re drawn to unique experiences, consider staying in a  ryokan . These traditional, family-owned lodges are Japan’s most memorable accommodations, particularly in historic locales like Kyoto, Nara, or Osaka. Learn all about ryokan ▸

HOW DO I GET THEME PARK TICKETS FOR TOKYO DISNEYLAND & TOKYO DISNEYSEA?

Having trouble with North American credit cards? Wondering if you should get your theme park tickets before you arrive in Japan? Are theme park reservations required?

Learn the secure & guaranteed way to get Tokyo Disney Resort's theme park tickets

Here’s the main thing you need to know: many of Tokyo Disney Resort’s operations have changed post-pandemic.

That’s especially true of their ticket & reservation systems. Much of what we could tell you today could be different tomorrow.

Here are the most essential updates (updated April, 2024):

If you’re an overnight guest in one of the Disney resort hotels, Disney instructs you to WAIT to buy theme park tickets through your hotel. |  As Tokyo Disney Resort explains on their helpful FAQ, all Disney resort hotel guests are guaranteed to be able to enter the parks on all their dates of stay (check-in through check-out) even if all the day’s theme park tickets are sold out for non-hotel guests.  However, you should wait to purchase your tickets for a few big reasons: one, you’ll need the type of ticket that includes early park entry. Those tickets aren’t available on the internet. Two, Disney may someday offer other types of tickets that were paused for the pandemic, namely, a park hopper ticket and a multi-day ticket. As of April 2024, only one-park-per-day tickets are being sold.

The Disney resort hotels are:

  • Tokyo Disneyland Hotel
  • Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta
  • Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel
  • Disney Ambassador Hotel
  • Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel
  • Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel

Guests at the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel have unique access. | As of April, 2024, guests of this hotel (who are not package holders) have exclusive access to a one-day ticket that includes guaranteed Fantasy Springs entry and reduced wait times at its attractions. Learn more here. Additionally, guests in the Grand Chateau rooms receive extra line-skipping privileges .

If you’re a guest in one of the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels — the ones which are not Disney operated & themed — guests may buy tickets through the hotel. | All guests of the Hilton Tokyo Bay may purchase one-park, one-day tickets in person, in the lobby of the Hilton, even when the tickets are sold out for the general public. Wishful Thinking can book you today into the Hilton, and we highly recommend it. Start here ▸

You may buy advance-day tickets online, but you can’t buy tickets more than 60 days in advance. | Currently, online tickets are only valid on the date you select when you purchase them — no additional Theme Park reservations are required. As of now, there are no in-person theme park ticket sales at the parks. You MUST buy your tickets online (or through your Disney-area hotel).

Tickets do not include Genie+ — that’s not how things work in Tokyo. | Instead of FastPass or Genie+, Tokyo Disney Resort offers Premier Access, which any guest may purchase on the day of their visit within the Tokyo Disney Resort app. As of now, Premier Access is only offered on about 3 or 4 attractions per park — here’s the list of attractions and prices. It works almost identically to Individual Lightning Lane purchases at Disneyland in California. You purchase the enhancement after you scan into the park.

Many USA-based credit cards are declined because the Tokyo Disney Resort website and app rely on advanced credit card security called 3D Secure. | The 3D Secure verification is standard for Japan-based banks, but it’s a protocol that isn’t yet standard within the USA. For this reason, many USA-based credit cards will not work if you try to book a hotel or purchase tickets on the Tokyo Disney Resort site. If your card is not working, you need to get a new card. Why? Because you will need a card with this feature when you actually visit Japan. The paid features in the Tokyo Disney Resort app won’t work without one, and many other vendors in Japan require this type of authentication.

Get a card from Revolut. | We highly recommend the safe, secure, internationally-accepted debit cards & credit cards from Revolut, which specializes in international travel . Their exchange rates are tremendous, there are no international transaction fees, and you can even store online balances in multiple currencies — a great strategy if you’d like to buy JPY in advance when the USD is strong. Best of all, their cards support 3D Secure verification.

Explore debit & credit cards from Revolut ▸

Multi-day tickets are still not available. | The 2-day Passport, 3-Day Magic Passport, 5-Day Magic Passport, Annual Passport, and many other long-standing ticket categories are currently not available, and we don’t know when Tokyo Disney Resort may resume the sales of these ticket types.

Wishful Thinking provides expert guidance & assistance for Tokyo Disney Resort. | Complete our form and we’ll send you an extremely informative, helpful FAQ, direct to your inbox.

SHOULD I BOOK A PACKAGE FOR TOKYO DISNEY RESORT?

Packages at Tokyo Disney Resort are very different from what you’ll find at Disneyland or Walt Disney World. For starters: they’re more expensive than simple hotel bookings + park tickets. You’re paying for unique perks & privileges . So are they worth it? What are the minimum / maximum number of hotel nights and theme park days? When do Tokyo Disney Resort Travel Packages become available? We’ve got all the nerdy details.

Nothing confounds international visitors more than Tokyo Disney Resort’s Disney Travel Packages.

Why? Because their offerings and restrictions are dramatically different from Walt Disney World or Disneyland. Pay attention to the details we’re sharing here; they matter tremendously.

To begin, it’s important that you recognize a few things about Tokyo Disney Resort:

• The crowds are massive. | Every day of the week. Ignore outdated information online that says that things are only busy on weekends. Not anymore. See what rope drop looks like.

• FastPass doesn’t exist anymore. | Post-pandemic, Tokyo Disney Resort replaced their FastPass system with a new benefit called Premier Access, which any guest may purchase on the day of their visit within the Tokyo Disney Resort app. As of now, Premier Access is only offered on about 3 or 4 attractions per park — here’s the list of attractions and prices. It works almost identically to Individual Lightning Lane purchases at Disneyland in California. You’re waiting in line for everything else. UNLESS you have a Disney Travel Package.

• Tokyo Disney Resort does not offer VIP tours | This is simply not a thing at Tokyo Disney Resort. Pre-pandemic, the park offered informational tours in Japanese (similar to the Keys to the Kingdom Tour at Magic Kingdom ), but they haven’t returned.

Therefore, knowing that avoiding crowds are the MAIN thing that its guests would want, Tokyo Disney Resort offers exclusive additional line-skipping (and show / parade viewing) privileges within their Disney Travel Packages. But there are severe restrictions:

Packages are ONLY available for a one night stay or a two night stay.

  • A ONE NIGHT package includes TWO DAYS of theme park tickets: Tokyo DisneySea on day one and Tokyo Disneyland on day two.
  • A TWO NIGHT package includes THREE DAYS of theme park tickets: Tokyo DisneySea on day one, Disneyland on day two, and DisneySea again on day three.
  • You cannot modify when you use your tickets; your first ticket MUST be used on your check-in day, and your last ticket MUST be used on your check-out day. For this reason, you will probably not want to begin any Disney Travel Package on the day you arrive in Japan. Thankfully, we’ve got expert recommendations for additional hotels in Tokyo. Get pricing ▸
  • Disney will not permit any guest to purchase two tickets for the dame day — therefore, you CAN NOT simply book back-to-back packages. (That would mean you’d double up on tickets when one package’s check-out day is another package’s check-in day.)
  • As of April 2024, there are no packages available for longer stays. This is all there is. See our recommendations below about adding a hotel stay to your package.

Currently, package perks include extra line-skipping privileges . This is the sweet gooey center of Disney Travel Packages, and this is why Disney guests are willing to pay more for them. When you book your package, you’ll gain the ability to select from a handful of attractions that are NOT offered as part of Premier Access . Disney simply calls them Attraction Tickets, but they work essentially like a FastPass. They’re available for the ‘2nd tier’ of popular attractions, and they include:

AT TOKYO DISNEYLAND | ATTRACTION TICKETS

  • Big Thunder Mountain
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek!
  • Pooh’s Hunny Hunt
  • Space Mountain
  • Splash Mountain
  • Star Tours: The Adventures Continue

AT TOKYO DISNEYSEA | ATTRACTION TICKETS

  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
  • Indiana Jones® Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • The Magic Lamp Theater
  • Nemo & Friends SeaRider
  • Raging Spirits
  • Tower of Terror
  • Turtle Talk

See more details about Attraction Tickets included in Vacation Packages ▸

What to choose? | When you purchase your package, you’ll make your selection as for which attractions you’d like to use for your benefit. Because the ultra-popular attractions Beauty and the Beast and Soaring; Fantastic Flight are also available via Premier Access, we suggest that you use your perks here for one of these ‘2nd tier’ attractions that are ONLY available to package holders. That’s the best way to maximize the value of your purchase. Buy Beauty & the Beast after you’ve entered Disneyland. And if you’re big into the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.) , don’t miss Soaring: Fantastic Flight. The pre-show is stunning.

Guaranteed Fantasy Springs Access | As of now, all packages for stays beyond June 6th also include guaranteed entry to the new Fantasy Springs land at Tokyo DisneySea on one of your days. We don’t know how long that benefit will be offered as a package perk, and we don’t know whether future packages might include it. But because this is currently the ONLY way to guarantee that you’ll get into Fantasy Springs, these packages are highly sought after. This also explains why they cost so much.

Most Wishful Thinking clients choose to book a package PLUS an additional hotel stay. As you can imagine, many who journey from abroad want more than a two night stay. We recommend that you obtain an additional hotel reservation — a la carte — and purchase any additional theme park tickets on-site at your Disney hotel. (As you’ll see above, ALL Disney resort hotel guests are guaranteed to be able to purchase theme park tickets for the dates of their stay even if tickets are sold out to the general public.)  Do note, however:

  • Tokyo Disney Resort does NOT guarantee that if you purchase an a la carte hotel stay for the same hotel as your package that you’ll be able to remain in your same room. These decisions are handled on a case-by-case basis after you arrive at your hotel.
  • If you’re in a different room type at the same hotel, Cast Members will transfer your bags for you.
  • If you select to stay at a different Disney resort hotel  — including the Hilton Tokyo Bay or the Sheraton, but excluding the Celebration Hotel — Disney Cast Members will transfer your luggage for free to your next hotel. See details about the luggage delivery service ▸

IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE JAPANESE-LANGUAGE SITE | Package type availability and benefits differ between the Japanese-language portal of the site and the English-language portal.  Just as Disneyland has special offers for California residents and Walt Disney World has special offers for Florida residents, Tokyo Disney Resort has special offers for Japan residents. Don’t try to be sneaky and enter the name of your Japan-based lodging; if you cannot enter your legal name, permanent address, and credit card billing address using Japanese characters, you will not qualify for these packages.

When do Tokyo Disney Resort Disney Vacation Packages become available? | Since early 2024, as the resort prepares for / promotes the new Fantasy Springs expansion, Disney’s been releasing them in monthly ‘dumps.’ Typically, Disney only provides a few days notice as to when the next release is coming, and no one knows how long this release pattern will continue.

Bookmark this page and watch for announcements ▸

Can an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner or a travel agent book a package for me? | No. As of April 2024, you are literally the only person on the planet who can book a Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Package; Disney explicitly forbids others from booking a package on your behalf, and if any agent offers to do this for you, your tickets may be invalidated.

What CAN Wishful Thinking quote and book for me? | We’re experts on Japan and Tokyo travel, and we can quote / book all your additional hotel stays in Japan, plus guided day tours, private transportation, and phenomenal multi-night guided tours via Adventures by Disney and National Geographic Expeditions. Also, as of spring 2024, we can book a la carte hotel stays at the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel — but these are not Disney Travel Packages. You’ll still need to purchase your tickets after arriving at the hotel.

WHAT SHOULD I SEE & DO IN TOKYO?

The world’s biggest metropolis: 20 million people live here. Thankfully, it’s also one of the most hospitable destinations for international travelers. But what are the real must-sees? And how should you get around the city?

Have you ever walked into an incredible party in full-swing and thought, “gosh, if I’d known it was going to be this cool, I would have shown up earlier!”

That’s what it’s like to visit Japan for the first time. It’s even cooler than you imagine it’s going to be. Most North Americans have only a surface-level knowledge of Japanese cuisine, history, & culture. Research can only get you so far. You simply have to go.

Here are a few of the key things you’ll need to know as you plan your visit to Tokyo:

It’s all about the trains | Getting in a car means you’ll be sitting in traffic, not moving. Taxis & rideshares are very expensive — we’re talking $250+ USD just to get to the airport. Not worth it. Getting around Tokyo — and journeying to cities beyond — is all about train travel. There are 3 major train systems in Tokyo:

  • The Japan Rail (JR) |  A nationwide rail network, kinda like Amtrak in the USA (but far, far better)
  • Tokyo Metro | 9 train lines serving 179 stations
  • Toei Subway | 4 train lines serving 106 stations

Taken together, they form an interconnected web of train lines that service the whole city. Thankfully, an IC (integrated circuit) payment card (like  Suica ) works for all three systems, so it doesn’t really matter which train you use. There are many major train station hubs where you can easily transfer from one train to another: Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Kita-senju and Tokyo Station are the busiest.

Check out this excellent guide to Tokyo’s train systems ▸

Bullet trains to other cities | The JR lines also include Japan’s famous bullet trains, known by the Japanese word shinkansen . These high-speed trains are excellent and affordable and provide easy access to cities like Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima. Many theme park fans who visit Tokyo Disney Resort are also interested in Universal Studios Japan in the city of Osaka, which is 3+ hours away by train.

View shinkansen routes, schedules & tickets ▸

Japan’s trains can be intimidating at first. Soon, you’ll learn that the station signs, onboard announcements, and train schedules are available in English — once you know where to look. Within a few days, you’ll wish that travel in North America was this quick, efficient, and easy to navigate!

Sightseeing: a contrast of ancient & modern | The sights of Tokyo inspire you to appreciate one of the world’s most incredible ancient cultures with a non-stop eye on the future. From Buddhist temples to high-tech shopping, you should give yourself at leas t three full days for sightseeing. Remember, you’ll be very jet-lagged, so don’t plan on overdoing it. Here are the most popular tourist sights for international visitors:

  • Tokyo National Museum | An eye-popping, incredibly curated museum that traces Japan’s history from the shogun to the modern era. More ▸
  • Sensō-ji Temple / Kaminari-mon Gate | Tokyo’s oldest and most spectacular temple, dating back to the year 645. More ▸
  • Meiji-jingū Shrine | A beautiful, picturesque Shinto shrine within a peaceful evergreen park — one of Tokyo’s most-photographed locations. More ▸
  • Ghibli Museum | A family-friendly, incredible museum devoted to the films of the legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke & many more). A must-see, especially for Disney fans. More ▸
  • Shibuya Crossing & Hachikō statue |  The zig-zag pedestrian traffic crossing that you’ll recognize from countless video composites of Tokyo. You might not be familiar with the touching story of the adorable Akita who waited for his dearly-departed master here every day for ten years. More ▸
  • Takeshita-dori street in Harajuku | An alley-style shopping bazaar catering to the latest youth trends. You’ll find cutting-edge fashion and the newest must-have snacks. More ▸
  • Ginza | A tawny neighborhood with impressive department stores offering high-end accessories, housewares, and designer clothing. More ▸
  • Kamakura | The former capital of Japan and an ideal day trip from the city. Visitors flock here to explore its beautiful ancient temples and pose in front of one of Asia’s largest Buddha statues. More ▸
  • Nightlife in Shinjuku  | Among many nightlife districts, Shinjuku is especially energetic and over the top. Check out the  Mario Brothers Go-Kart experience and the must-be-seen-to-be-believed Robot Restaurant . Shinjuku Ni-Chome is where you’ll find a collection of tourist-friendly LGBTQ+ bars and dance clubs. More ▸

Learn Japanese manners and courteous phrases. | Japan is a very, very polite society. To avoid unpleasantness, it’s best to learn the most common Japanese phrases, along with the most essential etiquette:

  • Payment is given & received with two hands. | When greeting a cashier, always present your cash or credit card with two hands, and do the same when receiving it back.  More ▸
  • Don’t walk & eat / drink at the same time. | Food and drink are meant to be consumed while seated indoors. Even if you place an order ‘to go,’ never eat or drink while walking. You’ll notice that there are virtually no trash cans on public street corners — and this is why. The one spot in Japan where you can probably get away with this? Inside Tokyo Disneyland / Tokyo DisneySea.
  • Remove your shoes in establishments, if requested. | Many traditional tea shops, restaurants, and ryokan hotels will provide slippers or sandals for you to wear upon entry. Place your shoes in the provided cubby holes and change into the footwear they provide.  More ▸
  • To visit gyms, pools or onsen spas, be cautious about tattoos. | Tattoos are considered disrespectful by traditional Japanese society. If you’ve got large, elaborate tattoos, it’s possible that you may be denied entry to certain gyms, pools, or onsen spa baths. You may want to seek out a tattoo-friendly gym or onsen that has a stated tattoo-friendly policy. Learn more  ▸
  • Learn important, courteous Japanese phrases. | It’s absolutely crucial to learn the Japanese words for please, thank you, hello, goodbye, etc. Here’s a great guide  ▸

This is just the beginning. We’ve got far, far more tips to share.

Wondering where to find the biggest selection of kawaii collectibles, manga , and anime merch? Wondering where to pipe up for some karaoke with the locals?  Want to try fluffy Japanese cloud pancakes, giant multi-colored cones of cotton candy, or the city’s best sushi, omakase, gyoza, ramen & more?

We’ve been to Japan many times, and we’d love to tell you.

Shanghai Disneyland Resort | FAQ

Do I need a visa to enter China if I want to visit Shanghai Disneyland Resort? How many days should I spend in the park? What are the best Shanghai Disneyland resort hotels?  What’s the best way to include a visit to the Great Wall of China? We’ve got answers to the most common questions below.

WHERE IS SHANGHAI DISNEY RESORT LOCATED?

Shanghai Disneyland is around 11 miles from Shanghai Pudong International Airport. It’s in the Pudong District of Shanghai, just 12 miles from the city center. Most guests take the train.

WHAT’S THE WEATHER LIKE IN SHANGHAI?

Shanghai’s weather offers four distinct seasons. Summers are sizzling, and winters can be rather chilly. The sweet spot for visiting? Spring and autumn. Here are the historical average temps.

HOW MANY DAYS SHOULD I PLAN FOR SHANGHAI DISNEY RESORT?

If you’re a major Disney fan, we recommend at least two full days in the park, plus at least two additional days for sightseeing. If this will be your first destination after flying from North America, schedule your sightseeing days first. Jet lag is going to be absolutely brutal.

WHEN & WHERE SHOULD I GET TICKETS?

It’s best if we set up your theme park tickets with your Disney resort hotel stay. See below.

WHERE SHOULD I STAY AT SHANGHAI DISNEY RESORT?

There are two Disney-owned hotels. The Shanghai Disneyland Hotel is an upscale resort with blissfully charming Art Nouveau décor. It overlooks the beautiful Wishing Star Lake. For a more budget-friendly option, the Toy Story Hotel makes Andy’s room larger-than-life. They’ve each got their own pros & cons, which we’d love to share with you:

Get pricing and expert insights for the Shanghai Disney Resort hotels ▸

WHAT DINING OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE PARK?

Just like any other Disney park, dining is a combination of table service, quick service & kiosks. Traditional Chinese cuisine is served in the beautiful Wandering Moon Restaurant, while the Royal Banquet Hall is a must-see fine dining restaurant inside the castle. The Tangled Tree Tavern is a charming quick service spot serving international fare. Sweet treats are available at the Duffy & Friends-inspired Cookie Ann Bakery Café on Mickey Avenue.

After you book your trip , we’ll happily steer you toward the best dining options.

WHAT ARE THE PARK’S HIGHLIGHTS?

Shanghai Disneyland boasts seven unique themed lands:

Mickey Avenue | Here’s the welcome mat of Shanghai Disneyland. Imagine a Disney character-infused hometown, rather than your typical Main Street, U.S.A. vibe. Pick up your “why yes, I’ve been there” apparel in Avenue M Arcade — their equivalent of the Emporium — where you’ll find a huge selection of unique Disney merchandise.

Gardens of Imagination | A touch of calm with a dash of imagination, Gardens of Imagination is where you’ll come across the Chinese Zodiac-themed garden, a Disney twist that’s genuinely delightful. Key spots? The Storyteller Statue and the Fantasia Carousel. And, of course, there’s the Enchanted Storybook Castle — it’s the largest one that Disney’s ever built.

Fantasyland | Step into a realm brimming with classic Disney stories. The enchanting Voyage to the Crystal Grotto is a must-do. Kids (and kids at heart) adore Peter Pan’s Flight and the Hunny Pot Spin.

Adventure Isle | Time for some adrenaline rush. Prehistoric fun meets high-stakes adventure in attractions like the Roaring Rapids and Soaring Over the Horizon. And don’t miss out on the Camp Discovery challenge trails — they’re like full on hiking adventures.

Treasure Cove | All aboard mateys for the one and only fully pirate-themed land across all Disney parks. A must-see? Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure . Widely considered the world’s best Pirates. Discover legends and lore on a real pirate ship: Siren’s Revenge. And don’t miss Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack’s Stunt Spectacular.

Tomorrowland | Shanghai’s Tomorrowland aims to be actually futuristic. The TRON Lightcycle Power Run is a definite bucket-list item, while the Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue provides an entertaining (if familiar) alternative.

Toy Story Land | It’s time to play along with Woody, Buzz, and friends in this fun-filled setting. Ride high on Slinky Dog Spin, test your courage on Rex’s Racer, or join Woody’s Roundup. Remember to pop by Al’s Toy Barn and grab a bite at the Lotso Lunch Box.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO BEYOND THE PARK?

Although Shanghai Disneyland Resort doesn’t offer the vast outdoor recreation activities of Walt Disney World, Shanghai Disneyland’s footprint is unique — it’s the one Disney ‘castle park’ where the main thoroughfare — Mickey Avenue – is located  before the theme park’s turnstiles . In Celebration Square, the Market District and more, you’ll find ample Disney shopping, dining, and entertainment . For a quieter moment, take a stroll around Wishing Star Park to enjoy nature, views, and tranquility.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I SEE WHILE VISITING CHINA?

How much time have you got? Many North Americans only know of a handful of sights — the Great Wall of China, maybe the Forbidden City, or the Xi’an Terracotta War Soldiers. China is a gigantic country with 1/5th of the world’s population. Planning a trip here can be incredibly complicated, even for seasoned travelers. None of these must-see sights are within easy reach from Shanghai.

That’s why we highly recommend the Adventures by Disney trip through China , which includes an unforgettable visit to both Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland.

DO I NEED A VISA FOR PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA?

Travelers from 50+ countries — including USA, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom — can enjoy a visa-free visit to China for up to 144 hours if they’re transiting to another country. That’s 6 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you enter the country. There are specific restrictions on where you can travel in China and which ports of entry / airports you may use, so it’s very important to study the regulations. Fact check everything.

How it works: upon arrival at the immigration desk in the airport or cruise terminal, you’ll complete a simple form (in English) that includes your lodging address and the reason for your visit. It about 5 minutes to complete.  In addition to your completed form, you will need to present a departure from Shanghai travel confirmation (i.e., a cruise itinerary or a flight confirmation). It’s best to print up this document on paper and have it ready for inspection; the officials will photocopy your confirmation and return it to you. Please note that if you only have the conformation on your phone, the officials will ask you to unlock your device so they can screenshot your phone’s screen. Paper is better.

Learn more about China’s 144-hour visa-free travel policy and review the countries which qualify ▸

If you plan to do any sightseeing in mainland China beyond Shanghai, you will you will need a visa . Best to apply for your visa 2 to 3 months before your trip.

If you are ONLY planning to visit Shanghai (for less than 144 hours) and Hong Kong, most international travelers do not need a visa before arrival. See information under Hong Kong, below.
