How to Reach Srinagar by Train

There is one major railway station in Srinagar – Srinagar Railway Station, a station on the Jammu-Baramulla line. It is located 13 km from the city center but sadly it is not connected to any place outside Kashmir.

Srinagar Railway Station is connected to Banihal Railway Station , which is a 4-hour drive from Jammu.

While work is in progress to connect this railway station with Jammu Tawi station, it will take some time before tourists can get a direct train to Srinagar from Delhi or other parts of India.

So, currently, the closest train stations to Srinagar that can be reached by other cities in India are Udhampur Station and Jammu Tawi Station .

Since Jammu is a major destination, especially for pilgrims, the railway station is well-connected to major cities in India. From Delhi, you get several overnight and day trains to Jammu that cost anywhere between 200 – 2500 INR, depending on the coach you choose.

Note : Do book your train tickets well in advance on IRCTC since the seats fill up quickly.

Jammu to Srinagar

Once you reach Jammu, you can take a bus or a shared taxi to Srinagar. From the railway station, take a local bus to the Jammu Main Bus Station from where you can get buses and shared taxis for Banihal, Srinagar, and other destinations.

A journey from Jammu to Srinagar can take you anywhere between 6 – 12 hours, depending on the road. If they take you via Banihal, you can easily reach it in 7-8 hours.

However, if the Banihal route is closed due to landslides (which generally happen in the monsoon months), you will have to take the Mughal Road route. This generally takes you to Srinagar via Rajouri and Shopian villages and can take close to 12 hours.

A bus from Jammu to Srinagar will charge you approximately 530 INR while a shared taxi will charge you 1000 INR. You can also take a tempo traveler that will charge you 700-800 INR for this journey.

Alternative Route: Another option is to take a bus or shared taxi to Banihal. From here, you can take the passenger train to Srinagar. From Jammu to Banihal, you will pay around 250 INR for the bus or 500 INR for a shared taxi.

From Banihal, the cost of the passenger train is 50 INR only for Srinagar. The train takes approximately 2 hours to reach so, you will be able to cover Jammu to Srinagar distance in just 6 hours.

Leh to Srinagar by Train

If you are traveling from Leh, then let me tell you that there is no train option available. There are now railway stations in the Ladakh region so, you can travel from Leh to Srinagar by flight or bus only.

Other Cities to Srinagar by Train

For budget travelers, taking a train to a nearby railway station is also a good option. You can look for trains to Delhi, Pathankot, Ludhiana, etc. From here, you will easily get trains to Jammu.

Once you have reached Jammu, you can use the above-mentioned route to reach Srinagar from Jammu.

Srinagar Railway Station to Other Parts of Srinagar

If you choose to reach Srinagar Railway Station from Banihal, then you will have to reach the city center which is 25 minutes from the station.

From here, you will have to hire a cab or taxi that will charge you around 350 – 400 INR to drop you at the city center.

How to Reach Srinagar by Flight

Srinagar has one international airport – Sheikh ul Alam International Airport, which is well-connected to all the big cities in India.

The airport is located around 10-15 km from the city and is a great way to reach Srinagar if you are short on time. Since this is the defense airport, they perform strict checking when you land or depart using this airport.

This is why it is crucial that you leave early for your departure flight from Srinagar as they check at two different points here. So, if there is a long queue, it can easily take you an hour to reach the airport itself.

How Much It Cost Me to Reach Srinagar

To date, I have traveled to Srinagar twice and have used different modes of transportation both times. Here is a breakdown of how much it cost me to travel to Srinagar on each trip:

Train + Tempo Traveler – The first time I traveled to Srinagar from Delhi, I booked a train to Jammu Tawi Station. From there, I took a bus to the main bus stand and then took a tempo to Srinagar as NH4 was closed due to landslides.

The entire trip took me around 40 hours(I was stuck in a landslide for 12 hours too) and cost me approximately 1,150 INR.

The Tempo Travel dropped me at TRC from where I took an auto to Nishat to my hotel.

Flight – When I traveled from Delhi to Srinagar the second time, I booked a flight for 2,290 INR. It took me around 1.5 hours on the flight, excluding the check-in process and reaching the airport.

Finally, you have all the information on how much time it takes to reach Srinagar and how much it will cost you. You can now select your desired mode of transportation based on your budget and time constraint.

For cheap traveling, trains and buses are the best way to reach Srinagar but they can easily take 2 days time.

Best Itinerary for Kashmir Trip – How to Plan your Itinerary

itinerary for kashmir trip

In this post, I will share a few examples of an itinerary for Kashmir trip. It is one of the most common questions I get asked by people wanted to visit Kashmir. So hopefully, the information below can be of some help.

Your final itinerary will depend on the time you have in hand and the places that you want to visit. Keeping that in mind, I will break down the travel plans based on the number of days. For each segment, I will provide a few different examples and you can pick the one that you like.

If none of these itineraries suit your plan, or if you already had one in mind and had a few questions, you can contact me on Instagram  and I will be happy to answer. You can also consider  subscribing to my YouTube channel  and asking a question there.

For other details on visiting Kashmir like places to visit, things to do, public transport, where to stay, etc, you can also take a look at How to Plan a Trip to Kashmir – A Complete Travel Guide .

Quick Navigation

Minimum Time Needed for Kashmir Trip

So how long do you need to visit Kashmir? This really depends on your mode of travel but a minimum of 4 days in Kashmir is what I will recommend.

If you have more time then you will be able to explore better but you should at least have 4 days in hand between your arrival and departure from Srinagar.

The itineraries I am suggesting below assume that you have arrived in Srinagar, either by road or by flight. Day 1 hence will be Srinagar.

If you were traveling by road, the time you spend traveling to Kashmir and then the journey back home will need to be added to the travel plan.

2 Days Trip to Kashmir

Can you plan a 2 days trip to Kashmir? Is it possible to visit Kashmir over the weekend? The answer to this question is a yes but I will not recommend it at all. A 2 days trip means that you just touched Kashmir and returned home.

But if you still want to do it, below is how the journey can be planned.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar. See the Mughal Gardens, go for a Shikara ride, see the sunset from Pari Mahal , and stay for the night in Srinagar.
  • Day 2: On this day, depending on your preference, you can go for a day trip to either Gulmarg, Sonamarg, or Pahalgam. You will return to Srinagar by the evening.
  • Day 3: Catch an early morning flight home

This is the best way that this trip can be planned. If you were thinking that you will return home on Day 2 itself, then you must give up the idea of visiting Kashmir. Plan another time when you can add more days to the trip.

3 Days Itinerary for Kashmir

Now let us take a look at the itinerary if you are able to throw in one more day. It will give you a little more time and you will be able to add a couple of other places to your travel plan.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar
  • Day 2: On this day, you can go for a day-long drive to Gulmarg. Enjoy the Gondola ride, spend some time visiting the local attractions, and return to Srinagar by evening.
  • Day 3: In a similar manner, go for a day trip to Sonamarg. See the Thajiwas Glacier , Zojila Pass, and Zero Point, and return to Srinagar by the evening.
  • Alternatively, you can also go for a day trip to Pahalgam. See Betaab Valley, Chandanwari, and Aru Valley, and return to Srinagar by the evening.
  • Day 4: Fly Out

An important thing to remember is that a trip for 2 or 3 days by public transport will be extremely difficult. The best option is to travel by your self-owned vehicle. If not, then you should either hire a taxi or rent a bike in Srinagar .

Itinerary for Kashmir for 4 Days

Let us now take a look at a few more examples of how this journey can be planned if you had 4 days to spend in Kashmir. This is the minimum time that I recommend and it really widens your sightseeing choices.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar. Local sightseeing and night stay in Srinagar.
  • Day 2: Day Trip to Gulmarg. Return to Srinagar by the evening.
  • Day 3: Day Trip to Sonamarg. Return to Srinagar by the evening.
  • Day 4: Day trip to Pahalgam. Return to Srinagar by the evening. You can also choose to stay in Pahalgam if your flight the next day was a little later in the day. Spend the night in Pahalgam and go straight to the airport the next day.
  • Day 5: Fly Out

If you have already been to popular tourist spots before and want your trip to cover more offbeat destinations, you can plan the trip like this.

  • Day 2: Srinagar to Yusmarg. Night stay in Yusmarg .
  • Day 3: Srinagar to Doodhpathri. Night stay in Doodhpathri.
  • Day 4: Srinagar to Aharbal Waterfall. Spend the latter half of the day in Srinagar.

Itinerary for Kashmir Trip in Winter

Now let us briefly take a look at how the journey can be planned if wanted to visit Kashmir in the winter season. Places like Sonamarg, Gurez, Doodhpathri, and Yusmarg remain accessible at this time.

Also, if you are visiting Kashmir in the winter season, I am assuming that you want to see snow and hopefully catch snowfall as well. For that, Gulmarg and Pahalgam are the best places.

The itinerary can be planned like this.

  • Day 2: Srinagar to Gulmarg. Spend the day walking around and enjoying the views and the snow.
  • Day 3: Early morning Gondola ride. Return to Srinagar by the evening.
  • Day 4: Srinagar to Pahalgam
  • Day 5: Spend the day in Pahalgam. Betaab Valley will remain accessible but you may not be able to go to Chandanwari and Aru Valley, depending on the snow on the road.
  • Day 6: Return to Srinagar. If you were short on time, you can return on Day 5 itself, in the evening.

I am not saying that these itineraries are the best ones or perfect. But the information below should be able to give you an idea of how the journey can be planned.

You can pick either of these travel plans and modify it in any way that you like. If you need my input, I will be happy to suggest changes.

Bangus Valley / Lolab Valley / Tangdhar / Teetwal / Keran

Let us also take a look at some offbeat destinations in the Kupwara District. These are the names that I mentioned in the header. Tourism in this area has just started and not a lot of people come in this direction. This is what you can truly call offbeat Kashmir.

To explore this region, you will need at least 4 to 5 days. This will be in addition to the days you spend exploring the popular destinations listed above. The itinerary can be planned in the following manner.

  • Srinagar to Lolab Valley – Day 1
  • Explore Lolab Valley and reach Chowkibal Rest House – Day 2
  • Chowkibal to Bangus Valley to Chowkibal – Day 3
  • Day trip to Keran Village. Return to Chowkibal – Day 4
  • Chowkibal to Srinagar – Day 5

Another way to plan this journey can be as mentioned below.

  • Lolab Valley to Sadhna Pass to Tangdhar – Day 2
  • Day Trip to Teetwal and return to Tangdhar – Day 3
  • Tangdhar to Bangus Valley to Chowkibal – Day 4
  • Day trip to Keran Village. Return to Chowkibal – Day 5
  • Chowkibal to Srinagar – Day 6

I hope the information above on planning your itinerary for Kashmir trip was of help. If you have any questions, you can  contact me on Instagram  and I will be happy to answer. You can also consider  subscribing to my YouTube channel  and asking a question there.

Hi Vargis Bhai, The posts are so helpful. I planned my trip inspired by your suggested itinerary as below. Kindly let me know if I have planned right. Also, I have spoken to 2-3 car rentals who are telling me day 2 and day 6 is not possible. Kindly help me with your suggestion and some car contact.

Day 1 (30 Mar): Bagdogra to Srinagar (evening) night stay in Houseboat Day 2 & 3 (31 Mar & 1 Apr): ( 4.30 hrs ) Srinagar to Aharbal Waterfall and then continue to Pahalgam. Night stay in Pahalgam for 2 days. Day 4 (2 Apr): Pahalgam to Gulmarg. Night stay in Gulmarg. (3.30 hrs) Day 5 (3 Apr): Gulmarg to Sonmarg (3.30 hrs). Visit the Drang waterfall on the way Day 6 (4 Apr): Sonmarg to Srinagar (2 hrs)—-local (Hotel stay)……..(On the way visit Doodhpathri) Day 7 (5 Apr): Srinagar to Yusmarg (1.40 hrs) to Srinagar hotel Day 8 (6 Apr): Srinagar local and late evening fly out

Hi Abhishek – The itinerary is doable. The cab drivers do not agree to this because they expect you to break this in two different days. They would want to charge you for Sonamarg to Srinagar and then separately for Doodhpathri. The same is the case with Aharbal as well.

Hello Vargis Bhai… I Plan to do Kashmir in Jan 2023, and Yes, seeing a snowfall being one of the of the Objective.. Need your guidance… Firstly,… which week of January can I see a snow fall say in Srinagar itself.. My Trip would be mostly of 8 days…. If you could please give a suggestive Itinerary .. Apart from the regular tourist Places like Pahalgam .. Sonmarg, Gulmarg etc,,, could you also please suggest some Off beat places which can be accessible during that period of time… Thank you…

Hi Nilesh Bhai – The entire month of January is one of snow so you can plan any week that suits you the best. Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg are the places that will be easiest to reach and explore. Even Sonamarg may remain closed. Those are the places you should keep in your itinerary

' src=

And yeah have to fit in Doodhpatri, Aharbal Waterfalls as well

You can travel like this Bhai

15 Best Places to Visit in India, According to Travel Experts

F rom the alpine meadows of Kashmir to the palm-fringed beaches of Goa, these are some of the subcontinent’s most enchanting destinations.

As a former longtime Delhiite and frequent traveler to India, people often ask me what the country is like. I never know how to respond, for trying to sum up a nation as vast and diverse as India feels impossible. So, instead, I asked a few experts for their insights.

“If you visit India, you feel you have visited several countries, as every part is different,” says Mohd Shafi Billo, an inbound tour operator who specializes in helping international travelers plan their trips to the country. “It’s an exceptional destination, thanks to its culture, history, and inclusiveness of different people from different faiths, and it has everything to offer, from forts to mausoleums, wildlife tours to mountain adventures.”

Shoba Rudra, founder and partner at hospitality consultancy Rare India , agrees. “The country is living a dynamic moment in history, ever-changing,” she says. “What's constant, however, is the vibrant culture lived through its festivals, cuisine, heritage, crafts, and performing arts.”

While it would take years to see it all, India is an approachable destination — if you can narrow things down. With that in mind, here are 15 of the best places to get you started on your sojourn to the subcontinent.

Stretching along the southernmost part of India’s Malabar Coast, the tropical state of Kerala entices visitors with its marshy backwaters, which most people visit on overnight houseboat adventures. These popular cruises “showcase lush landscapes and peaceful villages, and [give visitors] a glimpse into local life amid tranquil waters and picturesque surroundings,” says Billo. While the backwaters are a star attraction, the state offers much more to explore, from the tea plantations of Munnar, known for its cool climate and seemingly endless rolling hills, to the historic city of Kochi, celebrated in equal measure for its rich coastal history and contemporary art scene . The beaches aren’t too shabby, either. “North Kerala is also famous, as the Malabar Coast is where the spice trade flourished,” says Rudra. “The coastal area is picturesque and this region is still unexplored.”

On the opposite end of the country from Kerala, Kashmir offers entirely different — but equally captivating — landscapes. With its alpine climate, evergreen trees, and snowy winters, Kashmir is often likened to a mini Switzerland . Famed 13th-century Sufi poet Amir Khusrau once proclaimed in Farsi, “If there is a paradise on earth, it is this,” and he may have been onto something. At the heart of it all is Srinagar, Kashmir’s capital city, which is known for its elegant gardens and watery centerpiece, Dal Lake. “Highlights include staying on a houseboat or taking a shikara [traditional Kashmiri boat] ride,” says Billo, who hails from the area. Don't leave without indulging in wazwan , an opulent, meat-heavy feast that can feature up to three dozen dishes in one sitting.

Occupying a high-altitude plateau in the northernmost reaches of India, Ladakh is characterized by otherworldly landscapes and big skies, punctuated by palatial stupas and monasteries. Many visitors come to Ladakh’s capital, Leh, during the short summer tourist season, but this surreal region offers plenty more to experience beyond the city. Billo suggests visiting the Nubra Valley, an isolated part of the old Silk Road that’s only accessible by crossing Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes. “The valley offers a glimpse into Ladakh's unique geography and cultural diversity with monasteries, quaint villages, and apricot orchards,” says Billo. The region is also rich with unusual wildlife, from elusive snow leopards to the scaled-down Bactrian camels that originated in the steppes of Central Asia.

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

On the banks of the sacred Ganges River, the holy city of Rishikesh has held a place in the hearts of spiritually minded travelers — both from India and abroad — for generations. It’s the self-proclaimed “yoga capital of the world,” with a mix of traditional ashrams (spiritual rest houses) that cater largely to Hindu pilgrims and yoga centers that attract international visitors with teacher-training courses and meditation retreats. If you’re not into yoga, you’ll still find plenty to do here. Popular activities include visiting the ruins of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram (dubbed the Beatles Ashram in honor of its most famous former residents) to whitewater rafting adventures on the mighty Ganges. It’s also a great place for a wellness getaway, and nearby Ananda in the Himalayas was voted one of Travel + Leisure readers' favorite international spas in 2023.

Auroville, Tamil Nadu

If you’re looking for a place that’s unlike anywhere else in India — or, frankly, the world — head to the intentional community of Auroville in South India. This UNESCO-recognized global township was founded in the 1960s with the goal of "realizing human unity," beyond the illusory divisions of creed or nationality, and it's home to generations of residents from around the world. Many visitors come for an hour or two, just long enough to view Auroville’s spiritual center — the golden, dome-shaped Matrimandir . However, it’s worth sticking around a bit longer to get a feel for what the community is about. As Akash Kapur, who grew up in Auroville and authored " Better to Have Gone " and " India Becoming ," puts it: "Come to Auroville if you're interested in alternative societies, sustainable living, or spirituality, but try not to just drop in for a few hours (as many do), and instead spend some time here, really getting to know the people and their work. The community rewards sustained immersion."

Andaman Islands

Although most people associate the crystalline waters of the Andaman Sea with Thai island getaways, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in this tropical region are under Indian control. This little stretch of paradise is full of gorgeous shorelines, but most visitors devote their vacations to the island of Swaraj Dweep (formerly known as Havelock). The most popular beach on the island is Radhanagar Beach , which offers just over a mile of white sand sandwiched between tropical jungle and warm, transparent waters. Getting to this remote island requires a bit of gumption: You'll need to fly from the Indian mainland to Port Blair on South Andaman Island, then catch a ferry or charter a seaplane for the final stretch. While visitors are welcome on many islands in the chain, a few — including secluded North Sentinel Island — are off-limits.

While many travelers see India’s capital as a jumping-off point for visiting further-afield destinations, it’s worth sticking around for a while to truly appreciate what Delhi has to offer. There’s certainly never a dull moment in this busy metropolis, whether you’re shopping for handicrafts at one of its numerous markets or learning about medieval and Mughal history at one of its three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Humayun's Tomb, Qutb Minar, and Red Fort. Although Delhi is undeniably rambunctious, it also has a quieter, more peaceful side that you can find amidst the trees and 15th-century tombs of Central Delhi’s Lodi Gardens or in the quiet interiors of the Baháʼí Lotus Temple.

Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh

Many travelers to India put the 17th-century Taj Mahal at the top of their list. This white marble mausoleum is easily India’s most recognizable structure — and it’s one of the New Seven Wonders of the World . This popular attraction also has a romantic backstory. “This iconic symbol of love is renowned for its architectural beauty, intricate marble work, and the captivating story behind its creation by emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal,” notes Billo. The bodies of the emperor and his wife remain interred in the Taj to this day.

Jaipur. Rajasthan

The capital of Rajasthan and one-third of North India’s popular Golden Triangle tourist route (which also includes Agra and Delhi), Jaipur is a must-visit for those who love architecture and shopping. “The Pink City, as it's nicknamed, offers a rich cultural heritage, stunning [landmarks] like Amber Fort, vibrant bazaars, and intricate handicrafts,” says Billo. Many of Jaipur's key attractions are found in the historic walled part of the city, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Highlights include Jantar Mantar (a collection of oversized — and fully functional — astronomical instruments dating to the 17th century) and Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds, a honeycomb-shaped palace designed with tiny windows that allowed air to flow freely through its interior.

Jodhpur, Rajasthan

Dubbed the Blue City because of the cerulean-colored buildings that extend for miles through the oldest part of town, Jodhpur has long attracted travelers eager to explore the ramparts of the larger-than-life Mehrangarh Fort. It’s also home to the grandiose Umaid Bhawan Palace , which made headlines in 2018 when Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot there. While Jodhpur’s beautiful, regal architecture is reason enough to visit, there’s more to the city than massive forts and grand palaces. “The area around the Toorji ka Jhalra stepwell in the old city is fun to explore,” says hotelier Sapna Bhatia, owner of Kaner Retreat and Jodhpur-area native. “For nature enthusiasts, there’s the Rao Jodha desert park near Mehrangarh Fort.”

Udaipur, Rajasthan

T+L readers' favorite city in Asia and second favorite city in the world , Udaipur very much fits the bill of a fairy tale destination. Nicknamed the City of Lakes, thanks to its seven lakes, this gorgeous destination is home to some of India's finest luxury hotels plus historic whitewashed palaces, including the magnificent City Palace, an 11-palace complex that houses hotels, a huge museum with an impressive collection of European crystal, and a royal residence. A short boat ride from the palace lies the 18th-century Taj Lake Palace, an opulent palace-turned-hotel in the middle of Lake Pichola. It’s a quick drive from The Oberoi, Udaivilas , a purpose-built palatial hotel with onion-domed cupolas and a moat-like swimming pool that directly connects to some of the rooms.

If you’re looking for a less-frequented, but no less amazing, alternative to more touristed states such as Rajasthan, consider Gujarat. “Under-explored but culturally rich, this state in India is a tapestry of festivals, textiles, architectural heritage, communities, and landscape,” says Rudra. Gujarat was also the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, who led the Salt March, one of his most famous acts of peaceful protest, through the state in 1930. Rudra suggests visiting the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial , which “honors the activists through murals, installations, sculptures, art, and related film.” It's also worth checking out the Kutch district, known for its distinct metal bells , which were originally used for keeping track of livestock and are now popular as decorative wind chimes.

Kaziranga National Park, Assam

The northeast Indian state of Assam is home to a treasure for wildlife enthusiasts: Kaziranga National Park . This expansive, UNESCO-listed wildlife refuge near the borders of Bangladesh and Bhutan has the largest population of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses on the planet, providing a home to roughly 2,000 of these massive beasts. Although rhinos are the star attraction on park safaris, all sorts of animals live here, including tigers, elephants, gibbons, sloth bears, and a small number of endangered Ganges River dolphins.

Historic, glitzy, and positively gargantuan, Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) is easily one of India’s most cosmopolitan destinations. This city by the sea is the nation's financial and entertainment capital, and while you’re unlikely to rub shoulders with Bollywood stars here, you're sure to see a lot of impressive attractions in very little time. Take a boat out to Elephanta Island to explore fifth– and sixth–century rock-hewn cave temples, marvel at the grand Indo-Saracenic architecture at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus , or see thousands of clothes hanging out to dry at Dhobi Ghat, the world's largest open-air laundry. Then, head to the sleek neighborhood of Bandra West, where many of Mumbai’s best restaurants and hotels are located, including Taj Lands End, voted T+L readers' favorite city hotel in India in 2023.

India’s smallest state, Goa, is arguably its top beach destination, where long days of swimming and sunbathing turn into longer nights of partying on the sand. While Goa has been known as a hippie haven since the 1960s, it's started to shed its reputation in recent decades. It’s still very much a party state, though it also draws in families and couples in search of sea and sun, sans nightlife. It’s a great place for history buffs as well, with numerous seaside forts and UNESCO-recognized churches that were built when Goa was under Portuguese rule. And while the destination has always been loved for its fiery dishes that combine traditional Konkani ingredients with Portuguese influences, it has also emerged as a culinary hot spot , where a new generation of chefs is showcasing everything from Japanese yakitori to jackfruit tamales.

The temperature can drop to as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius, while the magical place keeps receiving snow throughout the winter season. It becomes the perfect spot for skiers to put their skills to test while taking in the mesmerizing views of Kashmir.

Things To Do In Kashmir

1. explore the popular attractions of srinagar.

Located along the banks of the River Jhelum, Srinagar is known for its beautiful lakes, gardens, and historical monuments. There are many places of interest in Srinagar including Shankaracharya Temple, Mughal Gardens, Dal Lake, Nishat Bagh, Lal Chowk, Pahari Bhavan, Chashma Shahi, Hazratbal Shrine, and Hemis Monastery. While the capital is one of the most bustling cities you will ever experience, it is also one of the most cultural destinations in the country.

2. Shop at the local market

The local markets in Kashmir offer a great opportunity to shop for fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, and other food items. You'll find everything here from traditional Indian sweets to fresh pomegranates, apples, and oranges. The Zaina Kadal Road is a perfect place to start if you are in Srinagar as it is more centrally located and accessible easily from all major areas. It is also one of the best places to understand the local art and try some streetside delicacies.

3. Take a boat ride

Take a trip down Dal Lake in a wooden boat while enjoying the view of the surrounding mountains. Boats leave regularly throughout the day from different locations around the lake. While it is a mainstream activity that you will find often surrounded by crowds of tourists, it is worth making a trip to enjoy this classic experience that will give you a unique perspective of Kashmir and its relationship with nature.

4. Go hiking

Hiking is a great way to enjoy nature and get away from the busy city. Many popular trails lead out of the city and pass through the mountains. One trail goes through the picturesque pine forests of Gulmarg.

5. Explore the old town of Baramulla

Explore the narrow streets of the old town area where small shops sell souvenirs and clothes. Here you’ll find some of the oldest mosques in the region.

The only way to ensure that the trip is fruitful is if you plan even the most minute details. So, before you get sailing in paradise, here are a few tips to help you travel better:

  • Make sure you carry heavy woolen scarves, jackets, sweaters to enjoy the winter season.
  • If you plan on indulging in adventure sports like skiing, pack a pair of sturdy shoes to help you with it.
  • While you can use credit or debit cards at most places, keep some change when you are looking to buy local artisan goods. Ask about the price and bargain well before making the purchase.
  • Research well about the top tourist spots while booking Kashmir packages from Delhi.

Although Kashmir is perched at the top of the country and might seem to be secluded, the state is as hospitable and homely as it gets. The valley of Kashmir can rejuvenate your spirit by taking you closer to nature. Delhi Police has traced origin of bomb threats received by schools: Delhi LG

Delhi Police has traced origin of bomb threats received by schools: Delhi LG

Lt Governor VK Saxena said that Delhi Police has traced the origin of the bomb threat emails that were sent to multiple schools in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, and assured that the culprits will be given strict punishment.

Officials said the bomb threat appeared to be hoax and said there was no reason to panic.

Saxena visited DAV school in Model Town area that also received the bomb threat.

The LG said that Delhi Police responded quickly to the bomb scare and began action after cordoning off and searching the premises with bomb disposal teams and dog squads.

Delhi was fully alert to prevent any untoward incident, he said at the school.

"Delhi Police has found out from where these emails are coming. Investigation is going on. I would just say that the culprits will not be spared and strict punishment will be given for disrupting peace and harmony," he said.

Panic gripped school students and parents early morning on Wednesday after at least 100 schools in the Delhi-NCR received bomb threats via email.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the bomb threat appears to be a hoax call and that there was no need to panic.

Police in Delhi and Noida said it has found nothing after searches at the school.
