Monster Jam World Finals XXI

  • View history

Monster Jam World Finals XXI (Also written as Monster Jam World Finals 21 ) was the 21st Monster Jam World Finals , held on May 21-22, 2022 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. This World Finals featured four championships, being the skills, racing, high jump, and freestyle world titles. In addition, this World Finals featured the debut of the Over-Under racing style for the racing championship. This event was also initially scheduled for May 2-3, 2020, but the original dates were infamously cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This World Finals would eventually result in Brandon Vinson breaking through and winning the racing title in Grave Digger #36 , Ryan Anderson in Son-uva Digger powered by Hoonigan winning the high jump competition, and Tom Meents rising to the top of the mountain once again, winning the skills challenge and freestyle championships in Maximum Destruction . This Saturday show for this World Finals would also be very infamous for having many rain delays and weather issues, causing the show to be postponed for over an hour and eventually cancelling the Great Clips two-wheel skills challenge for that day, having there be three competitions on Sunday.

Racing opening ceremony [ ]

Wf21 intro

In celebration of Monster Jam 's 30th anniversary, the Monster Jam Stunt Truck attempted a reverse forward momentum backflip with Tom Meents behind the wheel. Tom would come nearly close to completing the stunt, but would land on the rear of the chassis, rather than making the full rotation on the rear tires. The stunt was originally intended as an encore, but was instead performed as an opening the show. This decision was done in result of the weather delays, and because of the long delay and the postponing of the skills challenge, they decided the encore would be done to start the show with a bang for the fans, as well as the possibly of rain at the end of the show, which would eventually happen. It was also a strategic decision by the track crew to have to stunt be performed so the track could have time to dry out after it cleaned from the rain delays, as revealed by Jayme Dalsing.

The new World Finals over-under racing track debuted at World Finals 21 was met with mixed opinions, but mostly positive for it being a long, complex, and technical racing track for the drivers, and notably for it being exciting and entertaining for the fans to experience. It was also appreciated by fans by being a neat successor to Vegas styled racing, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic put the event on hiatus for three years. The muddiness of the track would also make the racing competitions more intriguing and unpredictable, considering how different the track was from qualifying. The praise would reach its peak with the championship race, where a thunderstorm would start, causing heavy rain pour, to which the officials would make the fast decision to quickly run the race, rather than postponing it, resulting in what fans would consider one of the greatest races in monster truck history.

The freestyle show of the event was also met with mixed opinions, as some saw it as a more boring and less memorable freestyle show compared to previous World Finals, while it was enjoyed by many for its amount of technical and skills based moves, and it did have its fair share of memorable moments during the show. There was also some mixed opinions on the judging at the show, however, it would ironically be the professional judging that would be met with most controversy instead, as some memorable runs would earn very low scores, resulting in displeasure from the fans, such as Todd LeDuc and and Cole Venard's run. However, the eventual winning run from Tom Meents would be considered a deserving win from a majority of fans.

The Grave Digger 40th anniversary encore was met with mixed opinions as well, with large amount of fans considered the stunt to be lackluster, mainly due to the stunt being performed numerous times in the past, and many fans believed that the encore could have been much more memorable, especially compared to the 25th, 30th, and 35th anniversary encores from previous years. Regardless, it was still considered great among the fans, as nostalgic designs such as Grave Digger The Legend, the 25th anniversary scheme, and the Purple 3D 30th anniversary scheme, returned for the first time in a while, and some since their retirements, as well as the tribute video shown on the jumbotron, giving respects to a large amount of past Grave Digger drivers.

Musawwir wf21

Bari Musawwir 's driver intro used during the competitions and qualifying.

Some aspects outside of the competitions were also well received, such as the awards ceremony being put together well with many memorable moments during the show, the World Finals Vlog Series on YouTube that gave live and high quality updates on the show and drivers, and the driver intros used during the competitions/qualifying and for television. Fans would also give lots of credits and appreciation to the track officials for working very hard to be able to get the track on Day 1 to be as good as it was after the rainstorm that delayed the show happened, as well as being able to make the introduction stunt possible. They were especially praised for being able to create the freestyle track in the stormy and muddy conditions after the end of the racing competition. The parts of the event that were streamed, such as qualifying, the press conference, and the pit party for example were all appreciated from fans for being high quality, though there was also some criticism from many fans for the actual competitions not being live streamed.

  • This also marked the first year since 1999 (although that was not officially numbered) that a World Finals did not occur.
  • This was the first World Finals with the days being held on Saturday and Sunday.

Monster_jam_Orlando_world_finals_pt._7

Monster jam Orlando world finals pt. 7

Fan-recording of the championship race where a weather alert can be heard in the background (at 0:27).

  • However, Linsey Read would be present at the event, as one of three professional judges during Great Clips Two-Wheel Skills and freestyle. Scooby-Doo would also make an appearance at the pit party.
  • This was the first World Finals since 2011 to not feature a Showdown, and the first since 2012 where the winner would determine the final main field qualifier. It's unknown if the competition will return in the future.
  • This World Finals would also not feature the ATV and Speedster world titles that were at the previous World Finals. It's currently unknown if these world titles will return for future World Finals.
  • This would be the first time where the same two trucks that had won the racing and freestyle titles in past would later win the same two competitions at a future World Finals, in this case, Grave Digger winning racing and Max-D winning freestyle.
  • Ryan Anderson , Todd LeDuc , and Tom Meents were the only three drivers to compete in all four competitions.
  • Tom Meents winning the skills challenge and the freestyle titles on the same day made this the first time that more than one title was won by the same person on the same day since he did so in 2002 at World Finals 3 , ironically 20 years apart.
  • It also marked Charlie Pauken , Cory Rummell , Coty Saucier , and Cole Venard 's first appearance in the main field since 2018.
  • The return of Blue Thunder in the World Finals main field would make the truck beat the record of having the longest hiatus between a truck's latest World Finals appearance and their return, being between nine years, and beating Wolverine by two months, with the event moving from March to May.
  • This event was the first time Charlie Pauken drove Monster Mutt at the World Finals since 2017.
  • This is also the first to feature only one Max-D in the lineup since 2014.
  • This is the first World Finals to not feature Morgan Kane and Neil Elliott since 2014, Jon Zimmer , Justin Sipes , and Rosalee Ramer since 2016, Linsey Weenk since 2005, and Jimmy Creten since 2001.
  • This would be the only World Finals appearances for Kraken and Over Bored. This would also be the only World Finals to feature Mark List, as he would leave the sport midway through the following year's season.
  • This would mark the last World Finals appearance for Brianna Mahon, as she would go on maternity leave for the remainder of the season.
  • There was a bowling competition for charity that took place on Friday, which benefited the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
  • Armando Castro was the only competitor not in the main field who would still compete in other competitions at the event, competing in the skills challenge.

Armando xxi error

Armando Castro being mistakenly displayed as main field competitor.

  • This would later be justified the following week on May 3rd, when Castro was not among the next nine competitors announced on Monster Jam's website.
  • This mistake was likely made as he would be planned to compete in the skills challenge.
  • On Monster Jam's website, there was an international show in Frankfurt, Germany that was mistakenly scheduled to take place on May 21st, the same day that the skills/racing competitions will be held. However, this date was later changed and fixed to July 22nd, 2023.
  • There was a sweepstakes that was held and advertised by Monster Jam that allowed people to sign up and enter for a chance to win four tickets to the World Finals, as well as other exclusive bonuses such as access to VIP, the awards ceremony, and more. It ended on April 11th, 2022. It was never publicly revealed who had won the sweepstakes as of now.
  • The main reason for this change was because of Camping World Stadium's new renovations, which added more seats to where the elevated start was originally at World Finals 20 .
  • The racing track change was originally hinted at back before the announcement, as when fans went to get tickets and choose seats, there were seats available where the elevated start originally was, hinting at the track change.
  • The professional judges would be Dennis Anderson , Scott Douglass , and Linsey Read .
  • Before the start of the racing competition, Blake Granger would make a quick racing pass in Max-D as a way to test out the track after it was cleaned out to make sure the track was good enough to race on after the rain delays.
  • During her first qualifying pass, Kayla Blood came dangerously close to missing the over-jump, but would instead be kicked up by the rear tires, sliding off the ramp and onto the ground. (The incident can be seen at 6:42 during the qualifying stream )
  • During qualifying, Avenger would run the World Finals XIX Nomad hood.
  • This was the first time that two trucks who had met in a World Finals championship race in the past would rematch in a future championship race, but with Brandon Vinson instead of Tyler Menninga.
  • Because of there being three competitions being held on Sunday, for the skills challenge, it was decided that instead of four attempts, each competitor would have only one attempt at a skills move to not drag the show on for too long.

WRcDEx6bhFY-02-08-14

Original High Jump order, drawn by each competitor.

  • Blue Thunder and Megalodon were the only trucks that stayed in the same order that they originally drew, with Blue Thunder staying 2nd and Megalodon staying 5th.
  • Ironically, despite Tom Meents originally drawing first in the line-up, Max-D would eventually end up going last.
  • Jim Koehler used Kraig Champion 's Brutus chassis with the 20th anniversary body on it for the high jump competition to save his normal chassis and the new 25th anniversary body for freestyle.
  • Avenger's 25th anniversary body also glowed in the dark.
  • In order to preserve Grave Digger #35 for the Grave Digger 40th anniversary encore, Adam Anderson would freestyle with Grave Digger #34 instead, which was Krysten Anderson 's previous chassis before 2022.
  • This also marked the first time that the racing champion would later end up in the " The Wolf Pack " that same event.
  • Back in 2020, there were original plans to invite an international driver to the World Finals to compete. It is unknown if this will still be done for future world finals, notably with the return of international shows.
  • This World Finals now has the record for the lowest winning score in the freestyle competition, overtaking the World Finals XIX winning score of a 9.182 with an 8.615.
  • Before being cancelled, one of the two original encores were going to feature two new Zombie Invasion variant trucks that would start competing. This never came to be, and the idea was eventually cancelled.

Screenshot (115)

Original render of World Finals XXI Stunt Truck meant to debut in 2020.

  • Every competitor on Arena Series Central in 2022 had never made a World Finals main field appearance. Krysten would be the only one on that tour to make an appearance.
  • This was the first World Finals to feature only trucks that competed in Monster Jam at the pit party. Trucks that did not run in Monster Jam in 2022 did not make an appearance (with the exception of Velociraptor, Wreckreation, St. Jude Emoji Strong, and the Monster Jam Stunt Truck).
  • This is the first World Finals to have the new 30 second rule (meaning competitors now need to fill 30 seconds of their run to get a score) would take effect.
  • Todd LeDuc (Stadium Series Red), Neil Elliot (Stadium Championship Series Green), Charlie Pauken (Stadium Championship Series Yellow), Randy Brown (Arena Championship Series), Colton Eichelberger (Triple Threat Series Central), and Brandon Vinson (Triple Threat Series West) were all coined the champions of their series after all the series prematurely ended. It was originally assumed by fans that their series wins would be counted for when World Finals XXI returned, but this would not be the case.
  • Neil Elliot, Colton Eichelberger, and Randy Brown would be the only few of these original 2020 champions to not get an invite to the 2022 version of World Finals XXI. Also, Todd and Charlie would drive different trucks than the ones they had won their 2020 championships in.

Street Fighter 6 x Monster Hunter Collab Explained

Street Fighter 6 is collaborating with Monster Hunter for the latter's 20th anniversary, bringing premium content for Battle Hub avatars.

  • Street Fighter 6 celebrates Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary with Rathalos Armor and MH-themed goodies in the premium Fighting Pass.
  • Players can wield Monster Hunter-themed weapons in Street Fighter 6, including the Frozen Speartuna Great Sword, Lances, and Longswords.
  • Enjoy the SF6 x Monster Hunter crossover for free by taking photo-ops, participating in a voting event, and earning Drive Tickets for themed weapon skins.

Street Fighter 6 saw a successful release in June 2023 and has been on a roll since then. The game treated players to four new DLC characters, a batch of great outfits for the main cast, and even cosmetic collaborations with other franchises. This April 2024, SF6 joins the festivities of the 20th anniversary of another Capcom classic: Monster Hunter. This event comes with a bunch of premium rewards, in-game photo ops, and a voter event.

The Street Fighter 6 team has been busy getting new and old players into the game with various crossovers with other Capcom games like Exoprimal . It even had events with anime and comic book titles like SPYxFAMILY and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . These collaborations usually involve BattleHub avatar skins based on the series’ most memorable characters and outfits, and the current Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary event is no different.

Street Fighter 6 Crossing Over With Another Capcom Franchise

The sf6: monster hunter 20th anniversary collaboration brings rathalos armor to the battlehub.

Avid fans of both Capcom franchises are in for a treat, as Monster Hunter ’s iconic Rathalos Armor will be available for Battle Hub avatars. The set includes a helmet, mail, coil, and greaves. Players can unlock these items when they buy the premium Fighting Pass for this season, which will be valid until April 22, 2024. Other MH -themed goodies in this battle pass include:

  • Felyne head costume
  • “Happy Hunting” frame, which adds a Monster Hunter -style HUD to photos
  • “Hunter Dance” emote
  • MH -themed titles, device wallpaper, and stickers

The Fighting Pass will also include premium rewards from previous SF games, like music from Street Fighter 3: 2nd Impact and even a classic game called Magic Sword .

The Street Fighter 6 x Monster Hunter Collab Lets Players Bring Huge Swords to Fist Fights

It’s only right for every Monster Hunter to introduce gargantuan weapons into the games they cross over with. Even Street Fighter 6 , a fighting game that mostly involves hand-to-hand combat, is no exception to this. SF6 players can crush their World Tour enemies in style with an assortment of Monster Hunter -themed weapons, with the most iconic one being the Frozen Speartuna Great Sword , which looks exactly how it sounds.

Players can also deck out their characters with an assortment of Lances, Longswords, Shields, and Hammers. Street Fighter 6 makes placement fully customizable for these weapons, so fans can go ham on dual-wielding an Axe and Great Sword or go for a more understated look with the weapons sheathed. Players can buy these cosmetics using Drive Tickets or Fighter Coins from the Hub Goods Shop.

How Players Can Enjoy the SF6 x Monster Hunter Crossover Players for Free

There are different ways to join this event without spending a dime. Players can take photo-ops of their avatars with Rathalos and Rathian in the Battle Hub during the collab period. There’s also a voting event where players can select their favorite MH weapon type. Voters get 2,000 Drive Tickets for participating. They can then use their earnings, along with the Drive Tickets they’ve earned from daily, weekly, and monthly challenges to get a themed weapon skin or two. The best free reward for this event is the Wyvern Jawblade . Players can acquire this epic Great Sword by simply watching the Fighting Ground tutorial during the collaboration period.

Some players are upset with the lack of actual outfits for the main cast of characters. Fans enjoyed the Rathalos Ken skin from Street Fighter 5 , and the outfit was unfortunately absent from this SF6 x MH collaboration. It’s a missed opportunity, especially now that the character’s fire-themed moves look more prominent in this game compared to the previous ones. It seems that these collaborations cater to those who like grinding Street Fighter 6 's World Tour mode and customizing their characters in the Battle Hub.

Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6 is a fighting game developed and published by Capcom. The title combines three modes including Fighting Ground, which features local and online versus battles as well as Arcade and Training. World Tour is a single player story mode that uses a player created avatar, and Battle Hub is an online social space where players can meet, interact, and battle each other in matches or arcade cabinets. Capcom has also updated the fighting mechanics by adding a Drive Gauge system to encourage more creativity during matches.

Missy Elliott announces tour with Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland — how to get tickets

Missy Elliott's first time headlining a tour will be with people who have been a part of her music since the beginning of her career.

The famed rapper announced her "Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience" tour on social media April 8 and shared that singer Ciara, rapper Busta Rhymes and producer Timbaland will be on the road with her. They have collaborated with Elliott on songs throughout her career.

"ATTENTION IT’S TIME," her caption read. The post was a video featuring Elliott, Ciara and Busta Rhymes in an intergalactic space as they try to figure out where they are. Elliott then calls who she refers to as Tim, most likely Timbaland, for help.

"These three icons come together to show you something you've never seen before," Elliott says in the video.

“'OUT OF THIS WORLD'TOUR across NORTH AMERICA!!!! With my family @ciara @bustarhymes & @timbaland This Spaceship will be Landing NEAR YOU RUN 4 COVER!" she added in the caption.

Elliott said in a press release announcing the news that she's in a season of firsts, even in this advanced stage of her career. She has released six albums and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. She also holds an honorary doctorate in music degree from Berklee College of Music.

“This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone ‘firsts,’” she said. “Being the FIRST female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now going out on my FIRST headline tour."

She said there's been fan interest in her going on tour for some time, but she waited until it felt right to her.

"Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family! So get ready to be taken OUT OF THIS WORLD with me, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland! We can’t wait to share this experience with the fans!" she said.

The tour lineup could not be more exciting for super fans and is currently scheduled to have stops across the U.S. and in Canada during July and August.

Here’s everything to know about Elliott’s upcoming “Out Of This World” tour.

Why is Missy Elliott going on tour with Timbaland, Busta Rhymes and Ciara?

Elliott has worked with all three artists over the years.

In 2019, Elliott wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Timbaland produced her 1997 debut studio album "Supa Dupa Fly" in just two weeks. Timbaland and Busta Rhymes are both featured on the "Work It" singer's first studio album.

Elliott has teamed up with Ciara on classic songs like "1, 2 Step" (2004) and “Lose Control” (2005).

How to get tickets to Missy Elliott's tour

Tickets will become available for Verizon presale on April 9 at 10 a.m. local time for each concert location, according to the press release and Ticketmaster .

Once presale tickets are available, fans can purchase tickets through Verizon Up until the window closes April 11 at 10 p.m.

Additional presales will run throughout the week leading up to the general onsale starting on April 12 at 10 a.m. on the singer's website , the release said.
