In 1999 I arrived from Palermo on the East Coast of Sicily and saw my first eruption. It was Aug 26th. UNFORGETTABLE! All experiences since that day have been the same. To see one of these most exciting natural events always stirs the emotions. It is AWESOME!!!

Mount Etna is one of the most active volcanos worldwide, but she is not always erupting. Therefore if you’d like to see an eruption, keep your fingers crossed. If that dosen’t work, she will be unforgettable even without molten lava!

Remember that we are glad to guide you during your visit in Sicily, not only on Mount Etna. Feel free to ask about any other Sicilian destinations as well.

That was great fun because he is such an interesting and entertaining fellow. We went back to the restaurant and learn to make pasta. Then we learned to make salt baked fish, delicious. When it was done, we learned how to fillet it. Then we learned how to make very delicious eggplant Parmesan. And if that wasn’t enough, we also learned to make excellent breadcrumbs, and to create a sardine and crusted breadcrumbs. Paolo very amusing with his stories about his grandmother, and how he learned to cook the hard way. Midway, we had a break for wine and cheese and bread, When the cooking was done, we all sat down to a very delicious meal that we had made, of course, with the help of a very busy and very friendly kitchen staff. We got aprons to take home, and and Paolo sent us the recipes so that we could continue to cook Sicilian style. • Sylvie2803 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Hop off Hop on a real scam. Don't use the hop off hop on bus, it was terrible. First of all we wanted to go to Savoca with a normal bus. We were told at the bus station that there were no city bus going there and the Hop on Hop off bus was the only one going (totally untrue) and it leaves at 10:30 am. The bus arrived after 11am to take us first to a place where we didn't stop as we were told to stay on the bus if we wanted to go to Savoca. Then it went back to the bus station in Taormina by that time it was past 11:30 and then they took us to a bus stop where they told us we had to wait for the next hop on hop off bus to Savoca but that we had to wait at that bus stop where there was no shelter from the sun and the heat that day was over 30C. The only place we could sit was a horrible cafe across the street but of course we couldn't sit there without buying food or drinks. They came to pick us up not an hour later but 1:30 hr later and we arrive in Savoca at 3 Pm to be told the last bus was at 4:30 pm which mean the journey we thought that would take us in Savoca at 11am to give us time to lookout the place at our leisure, meant that we had to rush to visit it and didn't see everything we wanted to see. The guide did not share much information but she was nice. The guys running the boat were helpful. The only truly neg were many of the other tourists who pushed and shoved with really poor decorum . Make sure you take cash with you, as the guide will collect money on the coach to pay for the entrance fee to the Archaeology Park. The coach stopped at a service station on the way to Syracuse, so we could all use the loos and pick up a quick coffee/snack. Unfortunately 3 other buses arrived at the same time, so we spent most of the 20 minute break in a horrendous queue for the toilets with no time to spare to buy anything from the shop. We spent 1.5 hours at the Park but unfortunately our guide spent long periods of time standing in one spot to talk, or walking painfully slowly along.....and then suddenly ran out of time, so we got to take a quick photo from the side of the amphitheatre before having to dash off to our coach. We really needed an extra 20 minutes so we could walk around the amphitheatre and take it all in. Our next stop was Ortygia. After seeing a map of Ortygia which highlighted the main attractions, we deserted our tour guide as we knew we could walk at a faster pace to see the sights, and still have time for a leisurely lunch. Panarea is more beautiful but Stromboli more spectacular. Bar Carola on Panarea was very good for lunch. Catering less exciting on Stromboli at least on our assessment. The boat was busy so an on deck seat is not guaranteed. The SAT guide was fine but not always necessary. The website suggests this trip starts at 1030 in October and lasts 10 hours. It didn’t! It really started at 1100 and finished at 2130. If you are driving to Milazzo, it’s well worth booking parking. Garage Mylae is handy and they do really good service. However…..We were told to wait at the office for our tour guide, then to be last on the overcrowded boat with a very limited choice of seats. We had no further contact with that tour guide for the rest of the day, so why did we have to wait? The stops at Panorea and Stromboli… each 2 hrs plus were too long, and resulted in passengers queuing early and a virtual stampede to get back on the boat. People queue up so far in advance of departure to ensure they get the best seats. The bus was air conditioned, but the seats too small and uncomfortable for my 6”1” frame, especially when the rider in front moved their seat back. Also by the time we arrived at the villa I was dog tired. Also the bathrooms adjacent to the Villa in the white building/restaurant/bar were absolutely filthy with broken seats and no paper. Although it was a fairly hot day, our guide at the Valley of Temples were extremely polite and considerate, helping us to find as many shady areas as possible. I had waited over 2 years for this experience and I was not disappointed. The only minus was the attitude of the guide as there was a problem with my booking. I was told it had been cancelled. I definitely had not cancelled this visit and the guide approached me in the middle of the bus within the earshot of all on board to say my tour was cancelled. I argued with her and she checked and returned to me three times which was very embarrassing. She asked me to pay 60 euros which I did not have. Said I would pay after the trip. Fortunately for me a very kind lady in the seat in front offered to pay this amount for me. The guide then left me alone. On the plus side the guide was very informative and knowledgeable and her language ability was excellent. Additionally, the trip was advertised as 8 hours. By the time I returned to my hotel the tour turned to last for 13 hours which is a very long day. It would be a better idea if the company adjusted this to a more realistic time of 12 hours. As I have a great interest in Greek/Roman history this trip was a dream come true. I absolutely adored everything I experienced. It is definitely worth a visit but don't expect a short day. This full-day trip is among the best Mount Etna tours available from Taormina . This Etna tour packs in a single day an easy hike to the beautiful Sartorius craters , a visit to an Etna lava Cave, and after lunch, a tour to the Alcantara River Park and the stunning canyon. Here we will walk inside the first hundred meters of this impressive Gorge to marvel at the high canyon walls displaying some fantastic shapes. Escursion Details

This Mount Etna hiking tour departs from Taormina and Giardini Naxos around 8.30 a.m. An English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel. On the way to the volcano, we will drive through two Mountain Villages. Before we start our walk, we will stop for a coffee break in a beautiful chalet where we will provide you with trekking boots and walking poles. The four kilometers long hike winds through a beautiful forest before climbing to the summit of Mount Etna's most famous craters, listed in the UNESCO world heritage. Wearing a helmet and with a torch, we will descend into a lava cave where the guide will explain the geology and history of this Italian Volcano. Lunch we'll be served inside a mountain chalet surrounded by a lush pine forest. In the afternoon, our Etna and Alcantara tour will be heading towards the Alcantara river. The return to Giardini Naxos and Taormina is a schedule between four and five o clock in the afternoon.
