Dramatic Labs and ViacomCBS present this all-new third-person narrative adventure

Dramatic Labs, a new fully remote independent game developer comprised of veterans from Telltale Games, in collaboration with ViacomCBS Consumer Products, today revealed Star Trek: Resurgence , a new third-person choice-driven adventure game set within the iconic sci-fi universe. Star Trek: Resurgence is scheduled for worldwide release in Spring 2022 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4 gaming consoles, and exclusively on the Epic Games Store for PCs.

Star Trek: Resurgence is an interactive narrative video game that tells an original story set in the era shortly after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation . Stationed aboard the U.S.S. RESOLUTE , players will assume the role of two principal characters, First Officer Jara Rydek and Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz, as they unravel a sinister mystery involving two alien civilizations on the brink of war. Throughout the game, players will immerse themselves in the Star Trek Universe, interacting with new and returning characters through a variety of dialogue and action gameplay to determine the course of the story.

The team includes Andrew Grant, former Lead Writer and Creative Director at Telltale; Dan Martin, former Lead Writer at Telltale; Kent Mudle, former Cinematic Director and Creative Director at Telltale; and Brett Tosti, former Executive Producer and Creative Director at Telltale.

Star Trek: Resurgence release date set for May

Star Trek: Resurgence comes out 23rd May for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and on PC via the Epic Games Store, Dramatic Labs announced.

Star Trek: Resurgence is a Telltale-style narrative game set shortly after the Star Trek: The Next Generation's timeline (that's the show with Picard, Riker and Troi etc). Here's the official blurb:

"A worker uprising threatens the tenuous peace between two alien civilisations, and Starfleet is forced to intervene. Players experience the conflict and larger mystery from two key perspectives. The U.S.S. RESOLUTE's First Officer Jara Rydek is part of the diplomatic envoy led by Ambassador Spock that's tasked with finding a resolution – and uncovering the ultimate source of this tense situation.

"Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz highlights how the mission plays out from the lower decks, caught up in the events in his own unique way. Throughout the gripping story, players can interact with the Star Trek universe like never before, with moments of authentic action and critical decisions that shape the broader narrative in subtle and unexpected ways."

Dramatic Labs, if you're unfamiliar, was founded by controversial former Telltale Games boss Kevin Bruner (who was accused of "cultivating a culture of fear" while at the now-defunct studio in a Verge report dated 2018), and includes around 20 former Telltale employees.

In addition to today’s announcement and trailer, which features a look at gameplay and what seems to be an appearance of Ambassador Spock (voiced by a Leonard Nimoy sound-alike), the official  Star Trek: Resurgence website also adds some additional detail to our opening knowledge about this upcoming game.

Star Trek: Resurgence is a narrative adventure game featuring dialog choices, relationship building, and exploration. Alongside dialog-driven role playing and rich branching storylines, you will also engage with the Star Trek universe in a variety of other gameplay styles, including shuttle piloting, phaser fights, tricorder scanning, stealth, and micro-gameplay mechanics. Star Trek: Resurgence is set in the year 2380, in the era immediately following the Star Trek: The Next Generation feature films; [the game] features an all new crew on an all new starship, but also includes characters that are fan favorites. Stay tuned for more info! Direct control of player movement in Star Trek: Resurgence uses a 3rd person “over the shoulder” camera. Dialog-driven role-playing is presented in a playable cinematic format [and the game] follows two principal characters through a single epic story, with gameplay switching between the characters, similar to Telltale’s Game of Thrones or Tales from the Borderlands. Prince of Persia The Lost Crown: was $49 now $29 @ Amazon The long dormant Prince of Persia franchise returns in The Lost Crown, a new spin on the beloved series. Martin,  Elden Ring  is a stunning open-world action RPG where every victory is hard-fought. You'll die frequently, but the sense of satisfaction that comes after downing a hulking boss after dozens of defeats is practically unmatched in all of gaming. Tekken 8: was $69 now $49 @ Amazon Bandai Namco's iconic fighting series returns in fine form in this latest entry. In our Tekken 8 review , we called it a classy fighter that wisely never takes itself too seriously. While the vibe largely looks familiar and sees the return of many familiar faces, Tekken 8 shakes things up by adding a cinematic flair to the action and introducing new combat elements like the Heat Gauge system that rewards players for relentless pummeling.

• Nerdy Guy You need to do some investigative journalism. Sony has the same games in these sales over and over again. While they might occasionally put a new game in there that's worth buying, the majority of the games are the same poorly made indie (or even big studio) garbage they've been trying to swindle people into buying for years. If you're not familiar with Gibson B Pontes, look him up. They have had games like "I Am Bread" on there for years. Rarely do they have anything worth purchasing. If there is something worth buying, you've probably bought it already. It would be great if we could see deals on things like the DLC for the Resident Evil 4 remake, or Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster for a more appropriate price. Instead we get "Action Henk" on there endlessly. Reply

A new report claims that more major Xbox exclusives, such as Halo or Forza could be coming to PlayStation . Recently, Microsoft has experimented with bringing some of its exclusive titles to other consoles , with Sea of Thieves being so popular on PlayStation that it was one of the most pre-ordered titles on its store, and crashed its servers at launch due to such high demand.

According to Windows Central 's Jez Corden, with this success, Microsoft is considering continuing this trend with some of its major franchises with a plan codenamed " Latitude " . Corden cites Halo , Gears , or Forza as major exclusives that would currently entice players to purchase an Xbox console, but says that Microsoft is pushing for no " r ed line " for what games could come to PlayStation, with Microsoft's managing director Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins, seeing it as an easy way to generate more revenue over a larger consumer base.

When announcing the plan to bring the four initial Xbox titles to other consoles , which were ultimately Sea of Thieves , Hi-Fi Rush , Pentiment, and Grounded , Xbox CEO Phil Spencer stated that Microsoft is already a major publisher on PlayStation, although this seems to have been largely through releases from studios such as Bethesda or Activision Blizzard that previously published titles across multiple platforms before being acquired by Microsoft. If Xbox puts it major console-sellers like Halo on PlayStation, it does begin to raise the question of whether consumers will feel the need to purchase an Xbox, especially with all Microsoft titles also launching on PC, giving multiple ways to play its exclusives.

It's possible that future releases could see more timed exclusives on console , much as Sony does with its PlayStation titles such as God of War or Marvel's Spider-Man before bringing them to PC, but even then, Sony isn't releasing these exclusives on its rival console. In his report, Corden argues that while in a perfect world, it's great that more people get to play these games, pursuing this strategy is a short-term margin booster with long-term consequences, as it could ultimately destroy the foundational reason to buy an Xbox in the first place.

It's yet to be seen how this strategy will play out, but with Microsoft's recent decisions, particularly on the Xbox front with the closure of several award-winning studios lately, it is sure to come under plenty of scrutiny. With the company's acquisitions and its development of cloud-based apps, it is possible that Microsoft's future could be more down the lines of bringing its Game Pass subscription app to other devices - as it already has done with some smart TVs - to negate the need for developing consoles anyway. This subscription does seem to be a steady source of income for them across PC and Xbox consoles, so bringing it to other platforms such as PlayStation - maybe even merging it with PS+ as Ubisoft has with its subscription - would just increase the number of potential subscribers.
