Complete Princess Cruises Theatre Shows Guide

On a Princess cruise you can expect shows in the Princess Theater almost every evening. Performances include singers, dancers, entertainers, guest performers and production shows. In this post, I have compiled a comprehensive  list of the Princess Cruises theatre shows on each Princess cruise ship .

It’s handy to know in advance which production shows are onboard, especially if you are planning to book your dining around evening shows. It’s important to note that not all ships are the same and the  theatre shows on Princess Cruises  differ ship-by-ship.

What productions shows are on Princess Cruises?

There are many production shows onboard Princess Cruises’ ships and the advantage of this is that when you cruise on different ships, you can enjoy a variety of shows. The same production shows are not performed on all Princess ships.

It’s also worth noting that Princess Cruises theatre shows are all original productions, that you won’t see anywhere else.

The biggest production shows are:

  • Spotlight Bar

The Secret Silk

Magic to do.

These Princess Cruises theatre shows are predominantly found on the Royal-class ships (Royal, Regal, Majestic, Sky, Enchanted and Discovery).

More production shows are available on other Princess cruise ships and I’ve listed them in this post.

Spotlight Bar on Princess Cruises

Spotlight Bar is the newest original production show

The newest original production show that Princess Cruises has introduced on selected ships is Spotlight Bar. The show centres around a friendly neighbourhood bar and tells the stories of the individuals who spend time there. Their stories are told through a modern musical playlist, with cast performances of various songs such as:

  • “Brave,” Sara Bareilles
  • “Don’t You Worry About a Thing,” Stevie Wonder
  • “Havanna,” Camila Cabela
  • “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus
  • “Drink You Away,” Justin Timberlake
  • “Freedom,” George Michael

One of the most impressive elements of this show is the set design, which brings the bar to life. This is thanks to Scenic Designer, Morgan Large, who has previously designed scenery for Rock of Ages , Fame ,  Tell Me On A Sunday ,  Room on the Broom  and  Top Hat .

You can see Spotlight Bar on Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and from early 2023, Sky Princess.

The biggest strength of Rock Opera are the singers. Don’t be mislead by the name, it includes a good range of powerful songs in different genres, including some from ‘The Greatest Showman’. This show is the first to incorporate American Sign Language into a performance.

Dramatic costumes add to the theatrical performances and overall, this show is a big hit with cruisers.

Take a look at my dedicated post about Rock Opera .

Princess Cruises’ theatre show, Bravo!, offers a combination of pop and opera including songs such as:

  • “Time to Say Goodbye”
  • “Habanera” from Carmen
  • “Skyfall” by Adele

The singers and dancers are backed by a large, 13-piece orchestra. Princess Cruises is known for its live music, rather than pre-recorded.

5-SKIES has caused a bit of confusion with some passengers as the show is set in a video game. My advice would be to go for the spectacle and enjoy the performance. The theatre show combines immersive hologram projections with a panorama of video walls and includes aerial performances.

Princess Cruises theatre shows include 5-SKIES

The Secret Silk incorporates puppetry from Jim Hensen’s Creature Shop to bring Asian traditions and stories to life. World-renowned musical composer, Stephen Swartz worked with Princess Cruises to create this original production show.

The Secret Silk Princess Cruises theatre shows

This looks like a West End show and has high production values so if you have the chance to watch it, it’s going to be different to some of the more cabaret-style shows found on Princess.

This Princess Cruises theatre show incorporates magic tricks and illusions into the performance. Performers were trained by an experienced magician to prepare for the show.

Magic To Do showcases some of Stephen Schwartz’s most famous songs, including “Day by Day” and “Defying Gravity” along with a new number, “A Little Magic,” composed exclusively for Princess Cruises.

Encore is a set in a beautiful Montecito garden and features pop, opera and musical theatre performances. This show was inspired by another Princess show, Bravo!

You can expect an impressive onstage orchestra showcasing new songs, elaborate costumes and stunning sets. Ballroom dancing complements the singers during performances.

Princess Cruises Theatre Shows by Ship

The production shows in the Princess Theater differ ship-to-ship but this handy guide, will give you an idea of the shows to expect on each Princess cruise ship.

What times do theatre shows start on Princess Cruises?

The times vary slightly ship-to-ship but usually Princess Cruises theatre shows are shown twice each evening. This can be for example, 8pm and 10pm or 7.30pm and 9.30pm.

Show times will be available to view in advance of your cruise using the Medallion app.

My advice is to arrive around 30 minutes early for a show. The later show of the evening is generally quieter.

How do you book shows on Princess Cruises?

You do not need to book the shows in the Princess Theater. Our best advice is to arrive in plenty of time before a show starts to get a seat.

Passengers with the Princess Premier package can reserve seats (for production shows only). Be aware that you cannot reserve specific seats but you will be able to sit in the reserved seating section.

Passengers staying in a Sky Suite can also enjoy reserved seating.

We experienced a Sky Suite on Sky Princess and made use of this twice. We simply told the Suite Manager which performances we wanted to watch and met him outside the Princess Theater 15 minutes before the performance.

book seats for shows on princess cruises sky suite perk

How long are the production shows on Princess Cruises?

The original production shows on Princess usually last around 45 minutes. This allows for two performances per night.

In this guide to Princess Cruises theatre shows, I share the list of original productions featured on each Princess cruise ship.

Princess cruise activities 2023 daily schedule + Princess Patter + onboard entertainment + journeyview on the app

Every Princess cruise has onboard activities led by the entertainment team of each cruise ship.

Below will show you an example of an entertainment schedule of onboard activities on a Princess cruise!

Of course, your cruise may (will!) vary, but this is just to give you an idea of what kinds of things you can expect, what time you may be able to expect certain activities, and more!

Onboard activities offered on sea days will be different from port days.

Because you will be on a cruise ship all day long, sea days will have more activities throughout the day!

Because most people tend to get off the cruise ship on port days, there will be less activities offered while the cruise ship is in port.

But as soon as the cruise ship has started sailing, you can expect entertainment activities to get started!

You can stay on the cruise ship during port days if you want. It’s not required to get off.

The daily schedule of cruise activities

When you are on a Princess cruise ship, you will get a daily activities schedule every day.

On the first day of the cruise, it will be in your cabin when you arrive.

princess cruise activities schedule on embarkation day

More of inside a Princess cruise ship cabin: cruise ship bathroom

For the rest of the days of the cruise, a paper version of the schedule will be delivered to you every evening by your stateroom steward (aka housekeeping person).

This daily activities schedule used to officially be called the Princess Patter, although nowadays it’s simply a schedule of “Princess event listings.”

princess cruise daily activities

Also on the daily schedule of cruise activities you will find the hours of things around the ship.

The hours of certain things may change based on whether the cruise ship is at sea or in port.

The hours are on the back of the Princess Patter.

More about a Princess cruise:

  • Princess cruise food in the dining room
  • Princess cruise wifi

Journeyview on the Princess app

Another way you can see what’s going on around the cruise ship is by using your Princess app.

The Princess app can be useful for a number of things, and one of those things is to see the onboard activities schedule!

On the Princess app, the onboard cruise activities will be under “journeyview.”

You may be able to start to see this before you even get on the cruise ship.

While you can look at it before you get on the cruise ship to start to give you an idea, it’s very likely that what you see before you get on the cruise ship in journeyview is not completely updated.

So just keep that in mind.

And if you don’t see something listed that you believe is an activity during every cruise, it could just be that it hasn’t been added yet.

The cruise activities can change even during the cruise, so you can expect that it’s very possible that it can change if you’re looking at it before the cruise.

princess cruise ship activities on journeyview

Bookmarking activities on the Princess app

If you are starting to see cruise activities listed in journeyview, you may notice that it appears that events are “filling up.”

It’s possible to “bookmark” an activity.

But that is all it is.

It is a “bookmark” for your reference.

princess cruise onboard activities reservation

An event that appears to be filling up just means that many people have shown interest in the activity and have bookmarked it.

It does not mean people are making reservations.

That is not how you make a reservation for any of the activities.

And in fact, you don’t need to make a reservation to attend most activities on a cruise ship.

There may be very special circumstances in which you do need to do something in advance for very special activities, but this is not normal.

In general, even if you see on the Princess app that an event is “full,” you can still show up.

Likewise, you do not need to bookmark an event in order to show up to an activity.

More below for the day-by-day schedule of cruise activities of one Princess cruise ship!

  • cruise luggage tag holders
  • basic binoculars for wildlife watching

Onboard cruise activities on a Princess cruise ship

This is the Princess Patter from 3 days of a 7-day cruise in May 2023.

There’s embarkation day, a sea day, and a port day.

No 2 cruises will be the same!

While your cruise will be different, you can also make note of the hours in port and hours or various activities around the cruise ship.

See more about what an embarkation day is like:

Day 2: Sea day (formal night)

On most cruises, the first formal night will be on the first sea day.

On a 7-day cruise there will usually be 2 formal nights.

And those are some cruise activities you may find on a Princess cruise ship!

As of summer 2023, I have spent 43 days on Princess cruise ships this year.

Princess Cruises' Star Princess ship delayed, 9 sailings canceled

princess cruise line shows

Travelers will have to wait longer than planned to sail on Princess Cruises’ upcoming ship.

The delivery of Star Princess, which was set to debut next summer, will be pushed back by about two months. The cruise line said the delay was a “mutual” decision with shipbuilder Fincantieri.

“Following a comprehensive review of the remaining construction milestones, both parties have elected to adjust the ship's delivery date from July 29, 2025 to September 26, 2025, which will result in the cancellation of the nine inaugural sailings,” Princess said in a news release .

Guests whose cruises are impacted will be able to rebook on any Princess ship and, depending on which sailing they pick, receive future cruise and onboard credits. They will also be able to opt for a full refund of their fare instead.

“Despite our collective dedication and relentless pursuit to deliver the ship in late July, it has become evident that additional time is required to ensure the Star Princess is delivered to the highest standards expected by our guests,” Princess Cruises President John Padgett said in the release.

Your cruise was canceled: Now what?

The ship’s new inaugural itineraries will include 11 and seven-day Mediterranean cruises on Oct. 4 and 15, 2025, respectively. Those will be followed by a two-week transatlantic voyage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Oct. 22, 2025.

Those sailings will be available to book on April 30.

Star Princess will be the second in the line’s Sphere Class. Sister ship Sun Princess was also delayed ahead of its launch earlier this year, with Princess citing “additional technical work” needed at the shipyard.

All 16 Princess Cruises Ships, From Newest to Oldest

Here’s everything you need to know about the Princess Cruises fleet.

princess cruise line shows

Courtesy of Princess Cruises

Sailors of all ages love Princess Cruises for its quality, service, value, and serene style of cruising.  What’s more, the 2023 T+L World’s Best Award-winning mega-ship line   — which is also a WBA Hall of Fame Honoree — tends to steer clear of splashy entertainment (for example, you won’t find go-karts, water slides, or ziplines on board most ships) in favor of more refined activities. Discovery at SEA programming is a standout offering: In partnership with Discovery and Animal Planet, guests can partake in nature-centric onboard activities and shore excursions. Most Princess ships boast a majestic atrium modeled after an Italian piazza, and it’s here where you’ll find some of the best drinking, dining, and shopping venues on board.

According to travel advisor and cruise specialist Jennaca Boose of Marvelous Mouse Travels , Princess’ fleet of 15 ships — 16 if you count the upcoming Sun Princess , which will make its long-anticipated debut this year — is family-friendly, and each vessel is “equipped to entertain all ages;” however, some cater towards specific age demographics better than others. For example, she says, travelers sailing with younger children will especially love Royal Princess and Regal Princess , which “have even more to offer” beyond the kids club, such as “outdoor play areas with jungle gyms and a separate teen space with a hot tub.” Meanwhile, says Boose, cruisers craving an intimate onboard experience may consider sailing aboard Coral Princess or Island Princess , which are two of the line’s smaller ships.

Finally, it’s also worth noting that the line offers dozens, if not hundreds, of itineraries across the globe, including Alaska, Mexico, Japan, the Mediterranean, and many more. “Whether you’re looking for a quick getaway or an immersive cultural itinerary,” says Boose, “Princess has a ship for you.” Without further ado, keep scrolling for a breakdown of each ship in the Princess Cruises fleet to help you narrow down which vessels would be best for you.

Set to sail the Mediterranean and Caribbean, this 20-deck mega-ship is sure to make waves following its early 2024 debut. The Park19 family zone will offer nine fun-filled activities, including the Sea Breeze (the first Rollglider at sea), The Lookout (an open-air observation deck), and Coastal Climb (a climbing structure for adventure enthusiasts of all ages). There’s also a two-deck arena, the multi-level Dome entertainment space, and the brand-new Spellbound, a Victorian-themed bar where guests can watch magicians while sipping theatrical cocktails.

Discovery Princess

Inaugural Year: 2022

Ship Class: Royal

Ship Capacity: 3,660 guests

For an elegant onboard experience complete with world-class specialty dining that’ll entice any gourmand, spectacular live entertainment in the lavish Princess Theater, and the largest balconies at sea (spanning over 1,000 square feet) found in one of the ship’s splurge-worthy Sky Suites, look no further than Princess’ final Royal-class ship. Spend sea days soaking up the sun — and the ocean views — by the infinity Wake View Pool.

Enchanted Princess

Inaugural Year: 2021

The elegant Enchanted Princess is a haven for relaxation-seekers with four sparkling pools (including the infinity-edge Wake View Pool), 10 hot tubs, and a serene spa offering Asian-inspired treatments. For the ultimate splurge, reserve one of the sprawling Sky Suites, best known for their expansive balconies offering 270-degree sea views. Other honorable mentions include the Sanctuary, Discovery at SEA, movie screenings under the stars, and the SeaWalk, a 60-foot-long glass-enclosed hallway with floor-to-ceiling ocean vistas.

Sky Princess

Inaugural Year: 2019

The snazzy Sky Princess made its grand debut in 2019; fast-forward five years later, and the ship has retained its allure. The three-story atrium is the beating heart of the ship, dotted with shops, bars, and restaurants galore. Check out Chef’s Table Lumiere, or try your luck at the casino for the ultimate splurge. Finally, for the best ocean views, book one of the Sky Suites.

Majestic Princess

Taylor McIntyre/Travel + Leisure

Inaugural Year: 2017

Ship Capacity: 3,560 guests

This Royal-class ship was initially designed for cruises from Shanghai, which means passengers can expect Chinese-inspired decor along with the fantastic specialty restaurant, Harmony, which features mouthwatering Asian menu items like wok-fried lobster, spring rolls, and more. Also unique to Majestic Princess is the adults-only Hollywood Pool Club, a perfect spot for grown-ups looking to soak in style. Meanwhile, don’t miss the dazzling casino and incredible SeaWalk, where panoramic ocean views await.

Regal Princess

Inaugural Year: 2014

This 2014 mega-ship definitely delivers in terms of onboard attractions. A few fan favorites include movies under the stars (best enjoyed with popcorn and candy in hand, of course), original productions, an outdoor musical fountain show, and Princess Live!, where passengers will find interactive culinary shows along with late-night comedy and game shows that can be viewed in-person or from the comfort of one’s stateroom. Last but not least, don’t forget to snap a selfie on the SeaWalk.

Royal Princess

Inaugural Year: 2013

Prepare to receive the royal treatment (pun intended) aboard the 3,560-passenger Royal Princess . The ship’s dazzling common spaces, including the grand atrium and the SeaWalk, are sure to impress design lovers, while the drinking and dining options, including the extravagant Chef’s Table Lumiere — available only on Royal-class ships — will delight culinary connoisseurs of all ages.

Ruby Princess

Inaugural Year: 2008

Ship Class: Crown

Ship Capacity: 3,080 guests

Entertainment options abound on the 19-deck Ruby Princess , from movies under the stars and basketball to golfing and (hopefully) winning big at the casino. While party-going cruisers can dance ‘til the wee hours of the night at Skywalkers, serenity-seeking travelers may choose to hit the sack early before waking up to enjoy the spa or The Sanctuary.

Emerald Princess

Inaugural Year: 2007

Last refurbished in 2019, Emerald Princess features something for families of all ages, including  reimagined Camp Discovery youth and teen centers and the serene Sanctuary, a kid-free slice of paradise in the middle of the sea. Passengers can also perfect their swing at the putting course, enjoy poolside movie screenings, unwind at one of several swanky bars and lounges, including the Speakeasy Cigar Lounge, hit the spa, or dance the night away at the onboard club. In summary, it’s pretty much impossible to be bored on this ship.

Crown Princess

Inaugural Year: 2006

Despite its 3,000-plus passenger capacity , Crown Princess never feels super crowded thanks to abundant onboard amenities and activities. Highlights include three main dining rooms, a three-story atrium, and, of course, ample activities and programming, which run the gamut from basketball courts and pajama movie nights for kids to karaoke and an onboard nightclub.

Diamond Princess

Inaugural Year: 2004

Ship Class: Grand

Ship Capacity: 2,670 guests

Best known for its Asia itineraries, Diamond Princess is sure to wow cruisers of all ages with its unique onboard features. Wellness-seekers need not miss the Izumi Japanese Bath, where guests can enjoy a traditional Japanese bathing experience coupled with breathtaking ocean views. There’s also the adults-only Sanctuary sun deck, Broadway-caliber entertainment, ample restaurants (including five main dining rooms), a nightclub, and so much more.

Caribbean Princess

Ship Capacity: 3,140 guests

This massive 18-deck ship was last refurbished in 2019 to bring it up to par with the line’s latest vessels. The European-inspired piazza , boasting street performers, eclectic boutiques, restaurants and bars, and a striking spiral staircase, is the beating heart of the ship. Plus, as part of the line’s partnership with Discovery, guests can enjoy nature-filled activities and lectures.

Sapphire Princess

Ship Capacity: 2,670 guests

Those craving a traditional cruising experience need not look further than the 20-year-old Sapphire Princess . With an onboard nightclub, five main dining rooms (plus many other bars and lounges, including a cigar lounge), this 2,670-passenger ship is among the line’s buzziest. After dancing the night away, adults can spend the day relaxing at The Sanctuary, while families will surely appreciate the dedicated spaces for kids, tweens, and teens.

Island Princess

Inaugural Year: 2003

Ship Class: Coral

Ship Capacity: 2,200 guests

Island Princess was purposefully built to sail through the Panama Canal. This 2,200-guest, 20-plus-year-old ship offers a more refined onboard experience compared to the line’s newer, flashier vessels. Sea days are well spent at the spa, in swimming pools, or sipping cocktails in the massive atriums; come nighttime, watch movies under the stars (a Princess staple) or catch live musical performances before hitting the sack — and getting ready to do it all again the following day.

Coral Princess

Ship Capacity: 2,000 guests

Coral Princess is Princess’ smallest ship; however, there is still plenty to see, do, and experience on board. Guests can make themselves right at home in the piazza-style grand atrium, where prime people-watching awaits. For some R&R, grown-ups can head to the tranquil, adults-only Sanctuary while the kids are at play at the children’s centers.

Grand Princess

Inaugural Year: 1998

Ship Capacity: 2,600 guests

Princess’ oldest ship underwent a major renovation back in 2019, adding fan-favorite restaurants like Alfredo's Pizzeria, Salty Dog Grill, and Coffee & Cones. Catch a Broadway-style show, relax at The Sanctuary, or partake in nature-centric activities as part of the line’s Discovery at SEA programming.

The brand-new Sun Princess has over 15 bars and lounges. With plenty of Princess favorites along with a few new concepts, many of the bars on Sun Princess offer a unique atmosphere and an equally impressive list of cocktails. We are back from one of the first sailings on this mega-ship and want to share everything you need to know about these watering holes. Get ready to put that drink package to good use with our complete guide to all the Sun Princess bars including all the menus and drink prices.

Complete Guide to Sun Princess Bars with Menus and Drink Prices

Indoor bars and lounges.

Along with various indoor dining venues on Sun Princess, there is an array of bars and lounges. Many of these venues host live music and activities each evening of the cruise. So, you will want to make sure you visit them all during your voyage.

WHAT WE LOVED AND HATED ON SUN PRINCESS VIDEO REVIEW

Good Spirits (Deck 7)

Good Spirits takes guests around the globe in search of extraordinary, one-of-a-kind cocktail creations. While in a new location on Sun Princess, this popular bar serves up all the signature concoctions. Among my favorites are the Barbados Swizzler and Bangkok Mule. Heidi enjoyed the Sandia en Fuego.

princess cruise line shows

On Sun Princess, Good Spirits is a distinct venue, tucked around the corner from the forward elevators. It showcases an immersive cocktail experience at a separate show bar each evening. Alongside some story-telling about the drinks themselves, skilled bartenders whip up these libations with a little help from guests.

There is also an immersive royal tea experience on select afternoons of the cruise. This bar tends to be open from 4 PM to late, with the last show usually occurring at 11 PM.

Good Spirits Menu

O’Malley’s Irish Pub (Deck 7)

One of our favorite bars on Sun Princess was O’Malley’s Irish Pub. Many cruise ships offer pubs, but O’Malley’s captures the energy and ambiance of an Irish pub you’d expect to find in Dublin. This traditional Irish pub boasts live music and a wide array of drinks.

Sun Princess Bars

Bartenders here pour unique cocktails featuring the exclusive Grace O’Malley spirits. O’Malley’s menu also includes a selection of beer and wine. On port days, O’Malley’s Irish Pub opens at 4 PM until late, with the venue opening as early as 1 PM on sea days.

Additionally, the venue serves a menu of classic pub-style food, like Traditional Bangers & Mash, from 5:30 PM to 9 PM nightly. The food here is not complimentary, but this casual fare is included in the Princess Plus or Princess Premier Packages .

O’Malley’s Irish Pub Bar Menu | Food Menu

Princess Live! (Deck 7)

The Princess Live! venue on Sun Princess received a significant facelift. This popular lounge now includes design elements of both Princess Live! and the guest favorite Explorer’s Lounge. The inviting, semi-open façade offers natural light and a cozy atmosphere.

Sun Princess bars

The large LED screen and small stage host diverse activities and entertainment throughout the sailing. Here, guests on Sun Princess can enjoy game shows, live music, comedy shows, and trivia.

The Princess Live! bar menu features several classic cocktails and Princess favorites, like a Spiced Negroni. While activities occur throughout the day here, the bar does not open until 4 PM (to late) most days of the cruise.

Princess Live! Bar Menu

Bellini’s Cocktail Bar (Deck 7)

In the center of Deck 7, Bellini’s Cocktail Bar is the main bar serving the Piazza. The bar features a signature cocktail menu inspired by the spirits of Italy. Signature drinks include staples like Prosecco, Limoncello, and more made with fresh ingredients.

princess cruise line shows

Cruisers can sip and savor the finest bubblies while enjoying the Piazza entertainment and panoramic views from the floor-to-ceiling windows thanks to the Sphere. Most days of the cruise, Bellini’s opens from 7 AM to late.

Bellini’s Cocktail Bar Menu

Coffee Currents (Deck 7)

An addition to Sun Princess is a second coffee shop on the Piazza. Open from 6 AM to late, Coffee Currents serves the same menu of espresso-based drinks as the International Café a couple decks above. Like that java shop, the coffee drinks here are not complimentary. However, they are included in the Princess Cruises drink packages .

The appeal of this venue is that it boasts more seating and a lounge with ocean views. It is often less crowded as well. In addition, Coffee Currents does offer a small selection of complimentary bakery items that are available throughout the day.

Sun Princess Bar Menus

Wheelhouse Bar (Deck 7)

This nautically themed bar is a staple on many Princess Cruises ships. While not found on the Royal Class, the Wheelhouse Bar makes a return on the Sphere Class. Open from 4 PM to late each night, this venue is the perfect pre-dinner or post-dinner spot for recounting the day’s events with friends and family.

Sun Princess bars

Serving a naturally inspired menu with cocktails like the Anchor’s Away, it fits right into the vibe of this space. At the Wheelhouse Bar, there is also a selection of popular board games available for guests to enjoy.

While the nautical theming is more subtle and there is no live music here, the venue is tucked away from all the action and is a nice spot to relax away from the crowds.

Wheelhouse Bar Menu

Spellbound by Magic Castle (Deck 8)

Spellbound by Magic Castle blends the world of magic with the art of culinary and mixology to create a one-of-a-kind immersive experience. With its ornate décor including magical artifacts, vintage curiosities, and interactive special effects, it is quite possibly the most well-themed experience on any cruise ship.

Spellbound Bar on Sun Princess

After witnessing the spirit of Isabella take requests on the piano, guests nestle around the Parlor Bar for some sleight-of-hand and unique cocktails that are among the best on the ship. But, the experience isn’t over yet. Soon, guests are summoned for an exclusive magic show.

With three time slots nightly, that are limited to just 30 cruisers, this $149 experience will include dinner, an open bar, and plenty of magic and mystery. In our opinion, Spellbound is well-worth the up-charge!

Spellbound Bar Menu

Crooners Bar (Deck 8)

Located off the Piazza on Deck 8 is another Princess favorite bar. The mid-20th century Crooners Bar features signature martinis and old-school mixed cocktails, alongside live piano music. With a new design featuring natural light and well-themed decor, it is undoubtedly the most refined lounge on the ship.

princess cruise line shows

The venue offers both bar seating and lounge seating off the Piazza so passersby can stop and listen to a tune or two. Crooners tended to be open from 11 AM to late every day, and most signature drinks are covered in the cruise line’s drink package.

Crooners Bar Menu

International Café (Deck 9)

This resident coffee shop is open 24 hours a day for your caffeine fix. The coffee menu here features specialty lattes, espresso-based drinks, and premium teas. Cruisers will also find a full bar serving the standard menu and spirited coffees infused with spirits. Various sweet and savory small bites are also available throughout the day. The food selection here is a bit more varied than Coffee Currents.

While all of the food at the Café is included in the cruise fare, espresso-based drinks are an upcharge.

Given that this venue is right off the hallway leading to The Eatery, it can get crowded here. But, you can always take your coffee to-go and enjoy it on the new outdoor promenade.

International Café Coffee Menu

Outdoor Bars

With the enhanced lido spanning several decks, Sun Princess is home to multiple outdoor bars. With pool areas scattered around the ship, cruisers are never far from a refreshing cocktail, cold beer, or glass of wine while taking a dip or enjoying the ocean breeze.

princess cruise line shows

Wake View Bar (Deck 8)

Aft on Deck 8 is a family-friendly outdoor space, the Wake View Terrace. This aft sundeck boasts some of the best views on the ship and a gorgeous infinity pool. While lounging poolside, guests can enjoy a refreshing drink with a twist at the Wake View Bar. The distinct cocktails here include the Aperol Froze or the Sand Meets the Sea.

With a signature cocktail menu that matches the yacht club vibe of this space, the Wake View Bar’s hours of operation are typically around 10 AM to 8 PM, weather permitting.

Wake View Bar Menu

The Promenade (Deck 9)

New to Sun Princess is an outdoor promenade at the aft of Deck 9. Not far from The Eatery (the cruise ship’s buffet), there is a variety of al fresco seating options along with several quick service stations.

On both the starboard side and portside of the outdoor Promenade, guests can enjoy food items like pizza, burgers, and tacos. Of course, you won’t go thirsty either as there’s also a bar on both sides serving the standard menu of beers, wines, and spirits.

Promenade Bars on Sun Princess

The Promenade bars are usually open most of the day, from 11 AM to 6 PM.

Standard Bar Menu

The Sea View Bar (Deck 17)

The Sea View Terrace is a two-story, partially covered sundeck located at the forward of Sun Princess beyond the new Dome. This sundeck is home to multi-level seating with fantastic views of the bow of the ship, an indoor-outdoor pool, and a signature bar. The best part is that it is completely free for guests to enjoy.

The Sea View Bar has a signature menu of maritime-inspired cocktails, like the Under the Sea and the fruity Peach Fresca. Like other outdoor bars, the Sea View Bar tended to be open from 10 AM to 6 PM during our Mediterranean cruise.

Sea View Bar Menu

The Cascade Bar (Deck 17)

Behind the Sea View Terrace is a multi-level covered deck and the first-of-its-kind true glass-enclosed dome ever constructed on a cruise ship. While technically inside the Dome, the Cascade Bar is another unique bar for cruisers lounging poolside or enjoying the nightly entertainment in The Dome.

princess cruise line shows

With an indoor cascading waterfall welcoming guests, this unique space offers drinks with distinct flair and flavor, like the Lilypad with olive oil washed gin. During our cruise, the Cascade Bar was open limited hours as the Dome was often closed for show rehearsals.

Cascade Bar Menu

Lido Bar (Deck 17)

Given the typical cruise buffet was moved off the pool deck on Sun Princess, the cruise line introduced a new food stall concept on the Lido deck. The new Lido Eats is a poolside eatery offering quick service burgers, tacos, pizza, and salads. To help wash down all of these lunchtime bites, there is also a bar on the starboard side of this Deck 17 outdoor dining space.

princess cruise line shows

During our cruise, the Lido Bar opened from 11 AM to 10:30 PM. This walk-up bar has no dedicated seating, but there are plenty of chairs and tables around the Lido Eats dining area and loungers around the pool. Like many of the outdoor bars, the Lido bar offers beers, wines, and cocktails from the standard bar menu.

The Mix Bar (Deck 17)

At the aft end of the main pool deck on the starboard side, cruisers can get classic cocktails, beers, and wines by the glass at the Mix Bar. This poolside bar is open most days from 11 AM to 6 PM mixing up the standard menu. With drinks like the Dirty Banana, Baileys Colada, and 24K Margarita, it’s the perfect spot to grab all your poolside libations.

princess cruise line shows

Coffee and Cones (Deck 17)

Cruisers will want to head aft on Deck 17 portside for a pick-me-up or a sweet treat. At Coffee and Cones, cruisers can get espresso-based drinks and free soft serve. However, cruisers can also indulge in one of the premium ice cream selections that are part of the Princess Plus and Princess Premier packages. These premium desserts can also be purchased a la carte for $12.

Sun Bar (Deck 18)

The Sun Bar serves the Deck 18 sundeck. This small bar is open from 9 AM  to 10 PM on most days. Cruisers can enjoy various beers, wine, and the cruise line’s signature 24K Margarita while catching some rays or taking a dip in one of the whirlpools.

Sun Princess bars

Note that the starboard side of the Sun Bar is the outdoor smoking section.

The Sanctuary Bar (Deck 18)

All the way aft on Deck 18 is an exclusive sundeck reserved for those 16 or older. Starting at $79 a day, guests can enjoy a tranquil and private space at the largest Sanctuary in the Princess Cruises fleet and the first to feature a pool. Suite guests also get a reserved section of the Sanctuary.

While relaxing in this exclusive retreat, guests have access to the Sanctuary Bar.

princess cruise line shows

The Sanctuary Bar opens from 8 AM to 5 PM and shakes up specialty cocktails, like the Sunset on Ice with Prosecco or a Caribbean Punch.

Cancel or just no show?

My understanding is that if you need to cancel for a non-Covid reason within the 100% penalty time period (within 14 days of sailing date) you are better off just being a no show at the pier. That way your cabin mate won't be charged the single supplement.

But if you're a no show, do you get any kind of confirmation e-mail from Princess stating your loss? Because I assume you'd need that in order to file a travel insurance claim.

Not positive, but to claim the insurance, don't you have to cancel, not no-show?

I would be really careful with being a no show.  You should check with PCL on this. See what your options are.

Insurance wants all kinds of proof, so why don’t you call them?

Cool Cruiser

Does the insurance allow cancel as late as on the day of sailing?  If so, maybe cancel after your cabinmate checks in and on board?

cr8tiv1

Pre-covid...a very long time ago....cruise mate and I did not have insurance for a very short cruise (first and last time I will go without insurance).  I tried to talk her into not showing up since she would going to lose fare anyway...She chose to cancel.  I had to scramble days before to rebook with a solo supplement.

Post covid:  sisters had to cancel.  They cancelled 30 + days out, filled insurance claim, received everything back minus insurance.

Had they cancelled within the 30 days, they would have received Future Cruise Credit including insurance.  They did not want credit.

Thanks all. Sounds like my impression that being a no show is preferable is erroneous. Which is why I asked, because I didn't know if you'd get any confirmation of the loss from Princess. Unfortunately I have enough doubt that whoever takes my call at the Princess call center is actually right that calling them wouldn't totally reassure me.

It may not even come to this. Someone in my travel group has a possible medical issue, but won't know anything until biopsy results, which will be within 14 days of sailing. So depending on the results, and whether any immediate action is required, they may still be going.

I cancelled within 4 days of sailing due to my partner having a medical problem. Called Princess and cancelled. Within a few minutes received a credit back to credit card for all taxes that had been paid.

We had Platinum Princess Cruise Protection so we got a note from the doctor which we used when we filed a claim with AON. Received the fare back in a checks/cheques in about 3 weeks from date of filing the claim.

Bigger ship, better views: 3 takeaways from Princess Cruises' newest vessel

I was rushing to make my dinner reservation on Princess Cruises’ new ship. But when I arrived at the restaurant, the view made me stop.

From the windows at the sushi eatery Makoto Ocean – part of a sphere-shaped structure near the middle of the vessel – I saw the sun sinking below the horizon, a reddish-orange dot on the Mediterranean Sea. The Sun Princess facilitates scenes like that by design.

“We wanted to make sure that within how we designed the (venues) and placed the furniture, we gave maximum opportunity for our guests to be able to celebrate those outward views,” Denise Saviss, Princess’ vice president of entertainment experience, told USA TODAY. “It is really, really unique to have so much glass on the ship.”

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

That was one of several striking features during a recent sailing (the ship is now cruising the Mediterranean before it moves to the Caribbean in October). Here are three takeaways from the first in the line’s aptly named Sphere Class.

1. The design showcases views at sea and in port

Makoto isn’t the only venue that offers that kind of view.

Other spaces inside the Sphere – which also houses lobby-slash-entertainment venue The Piazza – feature similarly sweeping vistas across decks 7, 8 and 9. I watched the light sparkle on the water while I sipped coffee one morning at International Café, and patrons dining at Alfredo’s Pizzeria can take in the scenery during their meal from many seats.

That’s also true elsewhere on the ship. At Horizons Dining Room, floor-to-ceiling windows face the ship’s wake. At the other end of the vessel, the Dome, a geodesic structure that Princess has said was inspired by the hills of Santorini, is like a massive solarium.

The space – which will also host shows including acrobatics – has multiple tiers of loungers, an indoor-outdoor pool and the Cascade Bar (which comes in handy for cooling off, as it felt a bit muggy in the Dome at one point on a sunny sea day).

The overall effect helped to bring the outside in.

2. The ship is bigger but still intimate

Sun Princess is the largest ship in the Princess fleet, and the 21-deck vessel can accommodate 4,300 guests. But that doesn’t mean everything is huge.

Given the scale of the offerings, a number of spaces on board feel notably intimate. One night, I walked to Good Spirits at Sea, a cocktail bar crafted in partnership with mixologist Rob Floyd that also hosts classes, and thought I was lost before stumbling upon it tucked around a corner on Deck 7. Inside, the 40-person venue offered a laid-back alternative to other more boisterous nightlife options.

On Deck 9, the ship’s buffet-like venue, The Eatery, gives way to narrower hallways toward the aft with backlit wood paneling and benches. At the end, they open back up to reveal specialty restaurants The Catch by Rudi and The Butcher’s Block by Dario (from Princess’ head of culinary arts, Rudi Sodamin, and in partnership with famed butcher Dario Cecchini, respectively).

Even the multi-configuration Princess Arena felt cozier than its near-1,000-guest capacity would suggest. I sat in the second-to-last row of my section for a performance by the vocal group ODY·C and was still close enough to see clearly.

3. The line leans into family-friendly activities

Part of Sun Princess’ expanded footprint has been used to broaden the line’s family offerings.

Park19, a new space on the ship’s top decks, features a variety of activities in an open-air setting. Saviss said the line worked to balance the interests of core customers and a growing family market “and make sure we're prioritizing spaces that everybody can enjoy.”

“There are some attractions that I think naturally, at first blush, people would say, ‘Oh, it's just for kids,’ but actually, the space is really comprehensive,” she said. “Our attractions are available for many different levels of ability and mobility.”

Those include Coastal Climb, an obstacle course that culminates in 360-degree views from The Lookout observation deck (the highest point accessible to guests on the ship, also reachable via elevator) and The Net ropes course.

On Sea Breeze, billed as the first Rollglider on a cruise ship, passengers will glide along the outer edges of the ship on an electric track (the ride will also be ADA-accessible, though Saviss said some mobility is required for maneuvering into the seat).

It’s as close as the ship gets to an amusement park (Princess’ version). “We're not running the rat race, if you will, of like, who can do it bigger, better,” Saviss said. “If you want to just have a really incredible bird's-eye view of Sun Princess, and in and around where the ship is sailing, you can do that. But there is an option to push a little lever while you're riding it and dial up the speed a bit faster, and then it does become a bit more thrilling.”

The ride was not yet available when I was on board, as the line moved through a testing, certification and training process, but is expected to open on April 27. Sun Princess’ original launch was delayed with the cruise line citing “additional technical work” needed at the shipyard, which pushed back the opening of some onboard amenities.

When is the best time to take a cruise?: We broke it down by region.

There is also a hammock area to chill when guests need a break, a recreational court that can host activities from pingpong to morning meditation, a jogging track and more. Elsewhere on board, guests will find the Firefly Park kids club and hangout spaces Neon Grove and The Underground for tweens and teens, respectively.
