What is a safari suit?

At its core, this is a suit that will help you protect yourself against any potential challenges during a trip in the savanna. It’s a very good idea to have a safari suit because it protects you against any problems. You can pair a safari jacket with dedicated shorts or trousers and it will become a safari suit.

The main idea here is to have a suit that offers protection against many of the challenges that appear in the wilderness. There can be insect bites , predators attacking and so on. The safari suit is designed to be inconspicuous, so you can explore the region at your own pace without worrying about any possible problems that can appear.

As we mentioned earlier, the best safari suit is the one that will not make you stand out. The main colors for this tend to be beige, brown, tan or khaki, although you can find some white safari suits too. The idea here is that you want to avoid any impact on the wildlife, instead you want to be camouflaged and experience the wildlife in its most natural format.

Bright colors will most likely make you stand out in the environment. When that happens, you end up scaring the animals, and that’s definitely something you must take into consideration as much as you can. If you would have safari suits that are blue for example or very dark, these will attract a lot of insects that carry yellow fever, dengue fever and malaria, among many others. That’s why specific coloring is very important because it will help you stay safe.

What kinds of safari suits are there?

You can have the standard safari jacket which has the traditional length, it comes with multiple pockets and it should fit perfectly. You also have the mid-length jacket which is shorter and that can be a bit easier to wear. If you want to traverse challenging territories, the bush jacket is very handy.

This one has a belt around the waist and it can have either a similar length or it can be longer when compared to other jackets.

Lastly, you have safari bomber jackets that are made out of polyester fabric. Most of these tend to have 4 path pockets, zippered front and an inside pocket. They are the most durable and dependable, but also the most expensive.

You can also get a safari vest if you want, this one is designed to offer the extra warmth and protection you may need. It also delivers extra pockets too, which is something you need to take into consideration as much as you can.

What to wear with a safari suit?

The upper garments would usually include a shirt under the jacket. Some people want a sleeveless option because it can get very hot. There’s also the option for long sleeves, depending on your own needs and requirements.

For the lower garments, you want to have either shorts or khaki trousers. Women can go for leggings if they want to. Long skirts can be a good idea too, since they offer added protection. When it comes to what footwear you need, you do want safari boots or hiking shoes. Slip on or closed shoes are ok too, but it’s better to go with boots or something that delivers an even better protection.

How to wear a safari suit?

Ideally, you want to use the safari suit when you go in a safari trip with a designated guide. You want to have a shirt, a jacket on top of it, safari trousers and proper shoes. You can adapt everything according to your own needs, and the results can be very interesting once you go down this route. You will be incredibly impressed with the value and results, and the experience is amazing because of it.

Do you need a safari hat?

Yes, normally you do, because there can be all kinds of hazards in the wilderness. A good safari hat needs to be waterproof, to provide you with proper coverage and it should help you fight against the UV rays. Obviously it needs to be comfortable and when it comes to material it can be cotton based, rubber or leather based.

Think about where you are going, this might require some changes to the safari suit

It’s important to know where and also when you are going on a safari. This will make it easy to identify the proper equipment you need. If you visit during the dry season, then the equipment above will do just fine. However, if you visit during the wet season, then you need to think about additional items that offer waterproofing and added protection. However, the colors need to stay the same for the most part, even if you visit during the rainy season.

The safari suits didn’t change that much over the past century. People have always been very excited to explore the wilderness, and the structure of a safari suit was very well prepared from the start. Granted, nowadays we are using different materials and the designs are a bit more modern, but the regular safari suits always had a thick jacket, durable pants, and high-quality shoes. It’s important to have the right equipment when you’re going into the jungle, so using the right tips and tricks will help you more than you imagine. ‘Revolutionary’ Suit Trend Shows The Epicentre Of Men’s Fashion Is Shifting For The Better

Europe, pay attention.

It used to be that any conversation about high fashion naturally gravitated towards Europe: the grand couturiers of France, the storied luxury houses of Italy, tailors on London’s Savile Row…

Europe might still be a fashion powerhouse, but it’s no longer the only word in men’s style. DMARGE recently conducted a reader survey about changing perceptions of luxury, and a whopping 80% of you agree that luxury doesn’t have to come from Europe. Just as we recognise that Europe’s not the sole domain of the finer things in life, so too do we observe that the hottest style trends are increasingly coming from places outside of the ‘Old World’.

One men’s style trend that’s being led by designers and snappy dressers outside of Europe is the revival of the leisure suit. While the first leisure suits originated in the 1930s on the US’ West Coast, it was in the 1960s and 1970s that leisure suits became particularly popular, and emerged the form we recognise them as today.

Taking on design cues from the utilitarian safari jacket, safari suits became fashionable thanks to French designers like Ted Lapidus and Yves Saint Laurent championing the look. The style was also picked up by the mod subculture in the UK, as well as by quintessential British men’s style icons of the era such as Roger Moore and the Prince of Wales. In recent years, it’s become somewhat kitsch; a shorthand for sleaze.

But the modern safari suit has far more salubrious and less European origins. Because leisure suits are an eminently practical, rather smart warm-weather option, well-dressed gents in Africa and South Asia have long championed the safari suit, further refining the style and transforming it from something to be mocked to a respectable smart-casual option. Now, Australians are paying attention – and Europe should, too.

Take Australian-founded, South-Africa based tailoring outfit Button Brothers’ leisure suit, which is “inspired by the powerful leaders of the Front Line States who fought for the liberty of many in Africa,” taking design cues from military fatigues worn by revolutionary freedom fighters whilst incorporating soft, breathable cotton.

Another Australian tailor that’s reinvigorating the leisure suit is Patrick Johnson . His take incorporates beautifully-textured linen and nods to the sorts of mountain jackets explorers in the Himalayas would regularly don during mountain expeditions – turning adventure gear into haute couture.

For a different take on the leisure suit, one only has to look to US-based tailoring service Hangrr , whose leisure suits throwback to peak American preppy style: small pockets, slim tailoring and a double vent for maximum warm-weather comfort.

The revival of the leisure suit proves something that Australian luxury consumers have known intuitively for many years: that fashion’s epicentre is slowly shifting from Europe and expanding elsewhere. Keep an eye on this trend – and keep your eye out for other men’s style trends emerging outside of Europe.

A jacket for explorers and fashion-forward wardrobes alike, the safari jacket is back. A pin-up of utilitarian style, the safari jacket has been highlighted in designer collections and high-street stores alike of late. Here's GQ 's pick of the best safari jackets out there

When it comes to the origins of the safari jacket, the clue is in the name. With its roots in the military, the style was adopted throughout the 20th century to suit wranglers, conservationists, and prairie keepers alike thanks to its lightweight and highly-practical design. Similar in length to the chore jacket but imbued with military motifs, the humble safari jacket is raising more eyebrows than ever as utilitarian styles continue to gain popularity. Put simply, this multi-functional silhouette is no longer reserved for the likes of Nigel Thornberry.

Gaining celeb supporters in the shape of Ernest Hemingway, Charles and Diana during their visit to Uluru, as well as our beloved James Bond (see Roger Moore swanning around in a beige safari jacket in The Man With The Golden Gun ), the safari jacket has a well-established and historic allure. More recently, however, the style has been deployed on the scorched sands of Fashion Weeks, stalking down runways at Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and Dior AW22, where predators lurk in the form of judgy editors, opinionated acquaintances, and savage Instagram comments. 

And so, since cargo pants have seen a recent resurgence, it makes sense that its top-half cousin is also growing in the public consciousness. And with warmer months just around the corner in Britain, never has there been a better time to bridge this transitional period with a highly practical and moreover classy safari jacket. From Hackett to Louis Vuitton, here are our top picks.

Turnbull & Asser

This khaki green jacket by Turnbull & Asser is made from a lightweight, yet durable natural material blend of one-third linen and two-thirds cotton, making it a perfect springtime jacket. Formality is attended by the pleated lines that guide the shape, plus, the buttoned pockets that stand proud. We especially love the almost gable-like curve that decorates the chest pocket flaps. It’s that sort of attention to detail that makes this piece irresistible.

This Nanushka safari jacket is fresh as can be. The boxy shape drapes with a lax elegance. Pair that with the hidden poppers, the roomy four-pockets, the drawstring waist cinch and you have a seriously versatile silhouette. And as if that weren't enough, the 100 per cent beige cotton-twill outer construction has a luxurious sheen to it and is guaranteed to last a long, long time.

The beauty of modern fashion is in its creativity. The traditional safari jacket is present here in its spacious pleated pockets, short lapel, dark and rich buttons, and wrap-around belt tie. However, the introduction of a cream-toned corduroy just points in a modern, stylish, and more playful direction. A safari jacket that doesn’t take itself too seriously – big win.

Brunello Cucinelli

Brunello Cucinelli brings a minimalist frame to the safari jacket and constructs it from a sumptuous suede material. The pockets are slimmed down, making them more suitable for urban wear, whilst the cinched waist is complementary to the natural lines of your body. In short, this jacket blends practicality and modernity with panache.

Louis Vuitton

For a couture approach, Louis Vuitton injects a healthy dose of fashionable sensibility to the humble safari jacket. Notice the clean-cut silhouette, the linear pockets and construction lines through the arms and back, but also, the jacket has a little trick up its sleeve – it’s reversible. While the front side has a soft blue shade, the reverse side brings some swagger with a purple and black pattern. It’s 99 per cent wool constructed (breathable, biodegradable, flame-retardant and water wicking) and is infused with 1 per cent silk for a final comforting, luxurious touch.

Stone Island

While a conventional wrangler or conservationist might chuckle at the thought of wearing a pastel pink jacket, for the less safari-inclined, this is a stylish piece of kit. The military-style Stone Island badge attached to the left arm, combined with the technical quick-drying fabric and bulky pockets root this firmly in the utilitarian camp, just with a bit more verve, that’s all.

This field jacket comes in the traditional warm hues of burnt orange reminiscent of the sandy earth of a desert. The jacket features formal epaulettes, nodding to the military heritage of the silhouette, and comes with a drawstring tightening through the waist and hem to achieve a bespoke fit for the wearer.

Going On Safari? Melissa Biggs Bradley Shares Her Packing Tips

Melissa Biggs Bradley, CEO and founder of member-based luxury travel company Indagare , is a pioneer in the luxury travel space. With extensive knowledge in the art of getting from A to B, Bradley’s latest endeavor, Safari Style: African Camps and Lodges (Vendome Press), comes to no surprise.

Safari Style was born out of Bradley’s “long love affair with safari.” At age 12, Bradley went on her first expedition, and since, she’s been on several dozen. “Over 30-plus years, I have witnessed an incredible evolution in terms of the kinds of places you can stay, the experiences you can have, the regions you can explore, and most importantly, the positive impact that travelers can have on conservation and community empowerment,” Bradley tells Vogue. “The book is really a celebration of that evolution of style and impact of the beauty of the bush and my favorite places to stay on safari.”

While featuring the varied regions and styles of safari, it was also essential for Bradley to choose properties that represented the potentials of safari tourism. “Every property focuses on conservation and community impact and shares their efforts with guests,” she says.

Here, Bradley’s insider tips for safariing in style.

Where to Stay

“It is truly impossible to pick one [place],” says Bradley. “Which is why I cover many diverse regions from the desert in Namibia and the Serengeti in Tanzania to the great concessions and parks in Botswana and South Africa and the mountains in Rwanda.” Safari Style covers 21 properties in 7 countries, “and each one can be guaranteed to deliver an unforgettable safari and aesthetic experience,” Bradley explains. From palatial lodges to incredible tented camps that use cutting-edge sustainable infrastructure, many of the properties listed in the book are built to be taken down in a few weeks—to leave no trace and maximize luxury. “Plus, there is such a spectacular range of style and design in eastern and southern Africa, and all the lodges in the book incorporate the natural surroundings and local heritage, which makes them so special,” says Bradley.

“Of course, iconic properties like Singita Sasakwa in Tanzania and Mombo Camp in Botswana are included, but I also included newer ones like Sossusvlei Desert Lodge in Namibia and Bisate in Rwanda,” she explains. To Bradley, not only are these some of the most amazing camps in Africa from an aesthetic point of view, but they also represent many of the best companies and families spearheading some of the most innovative safari experiences.

What Clothes to Pack

According to Bradley, who has spent more than a collective 100 days on safari, “the focus should be on comfort. Often to reach camps, you have to fly in small bush planes with very strict luggage restrictions of no more than 44 pounds packed in soft-sided luggage .” Temperatures also change, so Bradley suggests dressing in layers to keep covered from the sun. According to Bradley, key essentials include long sleeves, a great hat , sunglasses, good walking shoes , and a jacket or vest with lots of pockets for your camera, sunscreen, bug spray, wipes, and lip balm.

Bradley explains that lighter colors, like beige, camel, grey, hunter green are practical and not as attractive to tsetse flies—common insects in the bush who flock to black and blue colorways. “If you plan to spend time out of the vehicle, on a walking safari, for instance, boots that cover your ankle and high socks are also recommended,” she explains.

While packing light and smart is key, if you are someone who likes to have options, the good news is all of the camps listed in Bradley’s book do regular overnight laundry “and you can always go straight from a walk or drive to dinner, so there is no need for formal clothes or even many changes of clothes,” she explains. “In the bush, you want a comfortable uniform tailored to the elements, and a small selection of high-quality, versatile pieces is the way to go.” Specifically, Bradley suggests you bring only one or two of these daytime, layerable uniforms as they will be washed daily.

Almost all lodges have swimming pools, so sandals, a bathing suit , and a cover-up are also a must. “I like to wear a kaftan around camp between game drives,” says Bradley. “I use packing cubes to keep my bush clothes separate from my city or travel clothes and always have a few great shawls, which can dress up an outfit or keep you cozy around the campfire.”

The only time to consider packing a few dresses or other nighttime looks? If you’re adding other stops to your journey, like Cape Town or South African Wine Country, “which have many fashionable restaurants and bars,” Bradley says.

Fill Your Dopp Kit

As far as non-clothing essentials go, aside from the obvious camera (and plenty of chargers), Bradley travels with “a pretty extensive toiletry kit, with everything from burn creams and antibiotics to antihistamines, bug spray with DEET and immunity boosters like oregano oil and tiger balm.” Bradley explains, “Since you spend most of your time outdoors, I bring lots of sunscreens from Dr. Barbara Sturm SPF drops and Trish McEvoy tinted moisturizer to organic mineral powder by Eminence .”

“I find it really liberating to go back to a uniform,” Bradley explains. “I remember when I was in grade school, and we had a uniform, one of the teachers said that the uniform dress allowed you to focus on learning. I feel that on safari, when I return to my bush uniform, that I am free to focus more fully on the environment, the wildlife, and the joy of being in Africa, unencumbered by too many belongings to look after. Part of the joy of safari is stripping away the trappings of civilization and being closer to nature, and stripping down your wardrobe adds to that. The experience is better if what you wear—and what you don’t wear—is in sync with the reason you’re there.”

2023 Tata Safari facelift review: Family car with bachelor's spirit

• Tata Safari gets subtle but significant updates to its exterior styling while the cabin has been armed with newer features.

The Tata Safari is the flagship model for the Indian car maker that was first introduced in the country in 2021. At that time, the focus was as much on drawing inspiration from an iconic name as was on putting a brand-new model on a pedestal. This eventually resulted in the introduction of a three-row vehicle that promised SUV-like style but claimed MPV-like comfort. Fast forward just two years and the updated Tata Safari has a new wardrobe to show off in 2023.

Tata has been steadily increasing its focus on passenger vehicles that not just drive well and have top-notch safety credentials but look cutting-edge as well. Or at least extremely contemporary. Just look at the models like Altroz hatchback, the updated Nexon compact SUV and Nexon EV or even the latest Harrier SUV. Here are cars across different body types that showcase the current best that Tata Motors' designers have to offer. And it is a treat for sure. Towards this end, the new Tata Safari has been given a noticeable makeover as well even though it obviously retains its OG flavour.

And then there is the pivotal factor of in-car features - the more, the better, even if you end up not using a significant chunk of these in the long run. The Koreans started the trend and rivals like Tata Motors are only too keen to hit back. The Tata Safari, therefore, was always going to be pampered and peppered with features galore. So how do all of these factors come together to manifest in the flagship product from Tata Motors? Here is the first-drive review of the 2023 Tata Safari facelift:

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Exterior

The updated Safari looks a tad bit more sporty compared to the outgoing model, while still retaining its largely sophisticated exterior design language. The face, for instance, has been reworked and now sports a new grille, a reworked vertical housing for the fog lamps and headlights, and a stretched DRL bar that connects the sequential DRLs on either side. In a nutshell, the comprehensive updates of the front fascia have given the SUV a butch yet premium look, making it significantly distinctive from the previous model which it has replaced.

There is not much change in the side profile of the new Tata Safari SUV, apart from the reworked alloy design on the 19-inch wheels. The design is likely to evoke different reactions from different viewpoints instead of inviting unilateral awe. But what works really well is how Tata Motors' designers have managed to snub the use of chrome elements and still come up with a visually striking profile. Overall, the side profile of the SUV looks slightly curvy and pretty clean. The subtly flared wheel arches give the SUV a bold and muscular look, while the new design alloy wheels enhance the premium sporty feel.

There are no chrome elements on the rear of the Safari either, where a stretched LED bar connects the two tail lights and runs all across the length of the trunk door which, by the way, offers powered powered-open option. Besides that, the tailgate looks pretty sculpted thanks to the glossy black panel running through the centre of the trunk that also houses the sleek LED bar. The integrated roof spoiler and chunky black bumper with a thick metal skid plate are other design elements that come enhancing the SUV's bold visual appearance.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Interior

The new Tata Safari's cabin has become much more premium now and a slew of updates to the feature list as well as to the upholstery lend the vehicle a premium appeal that would have otherwise been restricted to models in segments above the one this car competes in. The top-end Accomplished variant - or persona, as Tata Motors refers to it, comes with a dual-tone colour scheme inside the cabin but the White theme on the seats would be quite hard to maintain in pristine condition.

The layered dashboard now gets an artificial wood panel which is a nice touch while the central section is dominated by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit that is intuitive, puts out clear feed from the 360-degree cameras and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The map feed can also be redirected to the all-digital driver display screen for better navigation which now sports customisable layouts.

The steering wheel has also been updated and is now a four-spoke set with mounted controls and has an illuminated Tata logo on it. This is certainly another nice touch from Tata Motors enhancing the premium quotient inside the cabin of the new Safari SUV. The updated steering wheel is quite easy to operate and control the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) functionalities that this car offers, courtesy of the layout of the control buttons on the wheel. On that note, the new Tata Safari SUV offers 11 ADAS functions in a further bid to aid driving safety and convenience.

There are plenty of other convenience features that the new Safari packs as well, whether it is the dual-zone climate control function, air purification system, ventilated seats at the front and middle, voice-activated panoramic sunroof, Alexa to Home technology or remote access to the vehicle.

Space remains the same inside the cabin of the new Tata Safari, which means that the SUV continues to be a decently spacious vehicle for passengers in all three rows. Space in that third row, however, continues to come at the cost of a compromised boot storage space. But that's really expected, right?

Overall, the new Tata Safari SUV come as a very well-appointed vehicle with quite a lot of space for comfortable long trips but now, at least in the top-spec version, is significantly more premium than before.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Safety

Tata Motors has been taking the front row across different segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market over the last few years when it comes to making safe cars. While the modern Tata cars come with a wide range of safety features, they also come with robust build quality as well. The Tata Safari facelift too comes following the same strategy.

The Tata Safari comes well-equipped with a host of safety features designed to provide peace of mind to the occupants. Some of the advanced safety technologies available onboard the Tata Safari facelift include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rain-sensing wipers, rollover mitigation, hill hold control, 360-degree view HD camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, front collision prevention function, blind spot detection etc. Moreover, it also gets features like ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat anchors etc.

Here are some of the key safety features onboard the Tata Safari.

• Seven airbags with six as standard
• Electronic stability control as standard
• Three-point seatbelts in all rows
• Seatbelt reminder for all passengers
• Isofix tethers
• Seatbelts with retractor, pre-tensioner, load limiter and anchor pretensioner
• Reinforced cabin structure promising to provide symmetric crash performance and side pole impact

Update: Keeping the trend of introducing safe cars in India, Tata Motors has delivered again with the new Safari and Harrier, as both these two SUVs have achieved five-star Global NCAP safety ratings for adult and child occupant categories. Besides that, the Tata Safari and the Tata Harrier SUVs scored a five-star safety rating at the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP or BNCAP) as well. While announcing the test results Bharat NCAP authorities have announced that the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier have scored five-star ratings with top-notch adult and child safety ratings in frontal, side and pole side impact tests.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Performance

Here is where the updated Tata Safari SUV could have been improved so much more. But isn't. So much has already been mentioned - and experienced - about the 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor under the hood and the choice between an automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual stick. Yes, the turbocharged diesel motor could have been refined further. Yes, the grunt is still uncomfortably palpable when pushing the vehicle to its limits. But yes, the new Tata Safari - especially with the automatic transmission - is still quite a fun car to drive and has enough power to get a move on when required. The suspension continues to hold its own on rough roads and the steering still has a nice heft to aid matters.

But why this otherwise very capable model does not also come with a petrol engine under its hood is beyond the comprehension of many. Tata Motors is almost snubbing the petrol-buying audience in the country, a group that is steadily increasing. There is also no 4x4 option for the updated version of the SUV because the platform on which the new Tata Safari is based on does not allow for it. But here is also a miss, especially as this model does go up against authentic off-road options in the market as well.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Verdict

The updated Tata Safari is a big step up in terms of its exterior design and cabin features and quality when compared to the previous model. Space has always been this car's strength but the additions to the feature list arm this SUV to the absolute teeth.

The diesel motor and the automatic transmission work extremely well in tandem but as mentioned previously, Tata Motors ought to strongly consider a petrol option for the model as well, especially considering the number of buyers favouring the petrol engines are increasing across India over the last few years

2023 Tata Safari review - a new chapter in Tata's SUV evolution

Tata Motors has been making significant strides in reshaping its SUV lineup. They recently introduced thoroughly refreshed models of the Nexon and Nexon EV, and the eagerly-anticipated Punch EV seems to be just around the corner. What is creating headlines of them at the moment though is the flagship Safari and its 5-seater counterpart, the Harrier - both of which have been updated significantly. We have a detailed review of the Harrier , too, but now we delve into the new 2023 Tata Safari 's most striking features, starting with its design.

The 2023 Tata Safari introduces a range of exciting design updates. Most notably, a large grille with a single-piece design sets it apart from the Harrier, giving it an imposing stance. Subtle 'Safari' branding on the doors with an updated logo adds a touch of class to the SUV.

One design element that particularly caught our eye is the stunning 19-inch wheels. Their two-tone finish and intricate hexagon centre design not only look fantastic but also injects a sporty element into the overall design. Regrettably, these wheels are not transferrable to the older Hexa, but they can be retrofitted on both old and new Harrier models.

The straight lines on the bodywork emphasise the Safari's upright stance and length, clearly distinguishing it from the Harrier. Even the grille protrudes forward a bit more, adding to its upright fascia. The tie-pin-like Safari badging in the headlights adds a touch of sophistication.

The front end is dominated by a full-width LED strip, vertically stacked headlamps, and two-pot fog lamps, creating a commanding presence. The startup animation for the headlights and taillights further enhances the premium appeal. Moving to the rear, the design strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and ruggedness, with horizontal lines and vertical sculptural elements. Notably, there's a distinctive light signature that sets it apart from the Harrier.

One standout feature is the use of hot foiling technology in the grille, a first in the segment, which adds an extra layer of sophistication and establishes a stronger visual connection with the Land Rovers.

Stepping inside the 2023 Tata Safari, you'll be further impressed. The cabin retains its spaciousness, but now, there are pinstripes in the inlay panels, reminiscent of luxury cars. While these pinstripes provide a nice touch, it's worth noting that they are printed and not actual metal veins.

The cabin is loaded with screens, featuring a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and even a tiny screen for the terrain mode selector, akin to a smartwatch. These screens are controlled by a new standalone processing unit, ensuring smooth performance and a more intuitive user interface. Soft-touch materials throughout the cabin add to the premium feel. Electronic touch controls for the air conditioning and a four-spoke phygital steering wheel with an illuminated logo make it clear that this is a high-tech cockpit, though some switches and plastic touchpoints in less common areas still feel somewhat basic.

However, there are a few downsides to consider. Glossy surfaces in the cabin are visually appealing but prone to scratches. Some of the controls, like the stalks behind the wheel, can be a bit of a reach, which might be inconvenient while driving. In the instrumentation, there's no MAP view for Google Maps on Apple CarPlay, only Apple Maps. The suede panels around the windows tend to accumulate dust, and the large wing mirrors create wind noise and affect cornering visibility. The shift-by-wire gear selector in the automatic variant, while a step forward, could be smoother. These are personal nitpicks and may vary from one person to another.

Tata has placed a strong emphasis on safety, offering six standard airbags, with a seventh available in top trims. The inclusion of features like 'Boss Mode' for the rear left passenger adds convenience, and various exterior and interior trim combinations known as Personas allow for a somewhat personalised experience while making colour and upholstery choices.

The lighter upholstery option may soil easily, so keep that in mind. On the tech front, the integration of Alexa Car2Home is a welcome addition. If you have compatible Alexa devices at home, you can use voice commands to control various home functions, adding convenience to your daily routine - like starting the coffee machine, switching the home lights or air conditioning etc as you are arriving home.

Connectivity is a strong suit then, and you also get voice-controlled dual-zone automatic climate control. However, it's worth noting that there are no individual microphones to detect driver and passenger commands, so you'll need to specify whom you're addressing. Rear window blinds and ventilated seats in the second row create a comfortable atmosphere. Ambient lighting extends to the panoramic roof too, which can be opened using voice commands, offering a convenient experience much like the competition. Additionally, the JBL audio system is upgraded with a tenth speaker placed on the dashboard. There are 13 audio modes, including one that activates only the front speakers, perfect for keeping the rear passengers undisturbed.

Driving Dynamics

In terms of driving dynamics, too, the 2023 Tata Safari has made some strides. New driving modes affect the weight of the Electronic Power Steering, addressing past concerns about the heavy steering feel with the hydraulic setup. Sport mode continues to provide the weighted feel, while Comfort or Eco modes make the steering significantly lighter and more convenient for daily chores.

The Sport mode enhances throttle and engine response too, making it especially useful on mountain roads and inclines, even for non-enthusiasts. The introduction of three terrain modes - Normal, Wet, and Rough - allows for adaptability in various driving conditions. Although the Safari is front-wheel drive and lacks all-wheel-drive options, the tire choices and suspension setup mitigate the need for frequent traction control interventions. Most mild off-road trails can be tackled in Normal mode itself.

The safety features are well-rounded, including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), and the addition of Adaptive Cruise Control that adjusts speed to match the vehicle in front, with a 3-second acceleration delay built in to anticipate unexpected obstacles. In panic situations, the vehicle uses automatic emergency braking and includes features such as pre-brake fill. Even in non-emergency braking, the Safari activates hazard lights when the rear radars detect a tailgating vehicle. Some features like Lane Keep Assist, are expected to be added to the production model.

Powertrain Performance

As before, the Safari continues to use the Fiat-sourced 170PS diesel engine, which is inherently a bit noisy and unrefined, but there are no pedal vibrations to complain about. It delivers a decent performance with a punchy midrange. There's some turbo-lag, but it's manageable and the crisp response of the Sport mode shadows that shortcoming.

The Hyundai-sourced automatic transmission now comes with a shift-by-wire as mentioned and you also get paddle shifters, marginally improving the driving experience. It's not the quickest, but the shift times are respectable.

Aerodynamic efficiency is improved in the updated exterior design, with wind curtains near the headlights contributing to slight gains in overall fuel economy, but we will verify that later with a road test.

Suspension tweaks ensure that ride quality remains excellent despite the large wheels. The handling is quite good too for such a large car and the aforementioned Electronic Power Steering helps shrink the perception of the car's size.

In conclusion, the 2023 Tata Safari is a compelling SUV. With its refreshed design, impressive features, and a strong safety package, it marks a significant step forward for Tata Motors. While the front-wheel-drive configuration and the absence of an all-wheel-drive option may not cater to Safari purists, the new Safari distinguishes itself with its rich feature set, connectivity options, and striking design, tailored to meet market demands.

Nike’s Olympic track and field women’s kits for Team USA slammed by athletes: ‘Clearly a joke’

The reveal of Nike’s kits for Team USA’s track and field Olympians has sparked controversy across social media as professional runners, Olympic hopefuls and fans zeroed in on the featured women’s one-piece suit, which is unusually high-cut on the legs.

“This is clearly a joke,” Femita Ayanbeku, a two-time Paralympian wrote in a comment under an Instagram post of the uniforms. “I’m someone’s mom, I can’t be exposing myself in such ways. Where are the shorts?!”

The men’s design included in the first-look promo photo has shorts that hit the mannequin’s mid thigh.

During a Nike event unveiling the Team USA gear in Paris on Thursday, sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson and hurdler Anna Cockrell modeled other apparel options including a two-piece set and a bodysuit with compression shorts.

Nike’s chief innovation officer John Hoke said there are “nearly 50 unique pieces across men’s and women’s and a dozen competition styles fine-tuned for specific events,”  per The New York Times.

In response to the women’s bodysuit included in the first-look promo photo, Grayson Murphy, a two-time world champion in mountain running said, “that gusset is giving me anxiety”

Likewise, two-time U.S. champion distance runner Lauren Fleshman ripped into the uniforms in a post on her Instagram account.

“Professional athletes should be able to compete without dedicating brain space to constant pube vigilance or the mental gymnastics of having every vulnerable piece of your body on display. Women’s kits should be in service to performance, mentally and physically. If this outfit was truly beneficial to physical performance, men would wear it,” Fleshman said.

The post continued, “This is not an elite athletic kit for track and field. This is a costume born of patriarchal forces that are no longer welcome or needed to get eyes on women’s sports.”

Athletes representing other countries also sounded off on the design. Canadian hurdler and two-time Olympian Sage Watson wrote, “Yeah, that’s a no from me dog,” and English long jumper Abigail Irozuru shared a photo of the uniforms to her Instagram story with the caption “Was ANY female athlete consulted in this team kit?!?”

The cut of the women’s suit wasn’t the only aspect of the design athletes took issue with. Britton Wilson, a sprinter who holds the indoor American record for the 400-meter dash, asked “why is the font comic sans” under the Instagram post. Irozuru also pointed out that “these women’s colors are a replica of the current British Athletics kit.”

Nike did not immediately respond to  The Athletic ’s request for comment.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will run from July 26 to Aug. 11, with track and field events beginning Aug. 1.

Jena Sims, a veteran model for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, is known for her stunning appearances and now she’s adding a new feather to her cap with this collaboration. While she cheering for her husband Brooks Koepka at the Masters; she also has her exciting venture to celebrate.

Brittany shared Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s Instagram post on her story with the caption  “@jenamsims doing some pretty cool stuff out here” . The post features Jen Sims’ picture with the caption,  “It’s an exciting week for the Koepka family! While SI Swimsuit Rookie @jenamsims is cheering on her husband Brooks Koepka at the Masters in Augusta, Georgia today, she also has something of her own to celebrate — the launch of her new collaboration with @littlewordsproject “

Brooks Koepka, the professional golfer in the LIV Golf League, is set to tee off in his ninth Masters tournament, showcasing his skills. His wife Jena, is cheering for him while embarking on an inspiring initiative by launching a limited-time bracelet collaboration with Little Words Project. The project aims to support the Children’s Hospital of Georgia NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) by donating all commissions from the sales of the bracelets.

Brittany Mahomes’ support highlights the importance of uplifting others in their pursuits. It’s a reminder that behind every successful person, there are often friends and family cheering them on every step of the way.

However, it is not only Brittany that supports Jena. Jena Sims recently voiced her support for Brittany Mahomes.

Sims stands with Mahomes

Sims, who herself is married to a professional athlete, empathized with Brittany, acknowledging the criticism she receives due to her high-profile relationship.

In an interview ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, Sims defended Mahomes, stating , “I could not be more excited for her. I actually relate to her on a much smaller level. We’re both married to an athlete, and she gets a lot of crap. She gets a lot of hate, unwarranted hate.”

Sims described Mahomes as “ very polarizing, “  but she saw it as a positive attribute.  “Brittany’s a very polarizing person, which is the type of model that SI Swimsuit hires to be a rookie. That’s the point. She’s a needle-mover. She’s a mover and a shaker, she’s a disrupter and I respect it,”  Sims told Sports Illustrated.

Brittany’s photoshoot for the 60th-anniversary issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit took place in sunny Belize. Although the edition has yet to be released, MJ Day, the editor of the publication, praised Mahomes’ journey, stating, “Brittany emerges as the epitome of a modern-day powerhouse.” He added, “Her journey has surpassed all expectations, inspiring others with her tenacity and unyielding determination.”

Their support for each other highlights the camaraderie among women in the industry.

Apple's usual strategy of introducing a new mid-cycle iPhone color in the spring is unlikely to be replicated for the iPhone 15 this year, if a new rumor out of Asia is anything to go by.

Apple has used the tactic frequently in recent years. In 2017 and 2018, it released red mid-cycle versions of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 lines, respectively. Then in 2021, Apple added a purple color to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini models for the spring season in late April.

In March 2022, the iPhone 13 lineup received new green finishes, and in the same month last year, Apple released the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in a new yellow color . Each new color launch has been accompanied by a significant ad campaign to attract new customers and upgraders who did not make a purchase when the latest iPhone series was originally launched in the fall. This year could be different, however.

According to Chinese Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital , there is no new spring color scheme on the cards for the iPhone 15. It's also worth noting that Apple has already launched several iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands in refreshed color options . The refreshed accessories arrived when Apple released the new MacBook Air in early March. In previous years, such a move has often been accompanied by a new iPhone color.

Why Apple would forego the opportunity to boost sales in the middle of an iPhone cycle is not entirely clear, so it is worth taking the latest rumor with a pinch of salt for now. Production delays have reportedly pushed the release of new iPads into May , and Apple is not expected to hold a launch event to announce the devices, but the debut of a new iPhone color could always come separately in the form of a press release, which Apple has opted for in the past.

New Mid-Cycle iPhone 15 Color Looking Increasingly Unlikely This Year

Why this bizarre phrasing which, in numerous minor variations, is widespread, "increasingly unlikely"? Making the adverb (more or less positive) clash with the adjective (more or less negative). Why not "decreasingly likely"? Or, and I'm sure this is far too simple, "less likely"? Time was, headline writers were desperately trying to shorten and simplify, not lengthen and mangle.

Pointless, expensive and wasteful marketing ploy. I don’t see how these mid-cycle additions help. I only upgrade every 2-3 years as it is, and I’ve only ever bought a black iPhone… what would releasing a yellow iPhone now do for me? I’m waiting until September to *think* about upgrading my 14 Pro to a 16 Pro, and that’s only a maybe at this point.

Anna Sitar’s New PacSun Swimwear Collab Is Perfect for Summer

The TikTok content creator launched her exclusive collection with the brand last week.

Los Angeles-based content creator Anna Sitar is known for her bubbly and positive personality, which has helped her amass more than 13 million followers across TikTok , Instagram and YouTube . The digital star, who went viral for her “I Don’t Want It” series, launched her first exclusive swimwear collection with PacSun on April 4.

ANNAXPACSUN offers one-pieces and bikinis, many of which are crafted with recycled materials. We chatted with the 27-year-old Michigan native about the brand new line and why partnering with the California lifestyle brand was a “no-brainer.” 

Sitar, who was very hands-on during the design process, drew creativity from the natural beauty of California, from the ocean to the water to the sky. She describes the line’s aesthetic as carefree and easy to wear.

“It’s inspired by Southern California, sunrise to sunset,” Sitar says of her swimwear collection. “When it comes to swimwear, I always want to provide this sense of empowerment. So, I wanted to make sure everybody knew that they were beautiful from sunrise to sunset, all hours of the day, and I wanted to create suits that really embodied that message.”

Her personal brand is all about confidence and spreading positivity, so during the design process, it was important to Sitar to pay attention to detail regarding quality and fit in order for consumers to feel as comfortable as possible in the styles. And best of all, the bikini tops and bottoms are meant to be mixed and matched for a custom look.

Each suit is named after an important woman in Sitar’s life, including her mother, sister and closest girlfriends. The Rachel is a scrunched one-shoulder bikini, while The Tezza is a sunset-inspired bandeau-style two-piece. Sitar’s personal favorite from the collection, The Elizabeth , is a white triangle-style bikini with a sweet yellow floral pattern. And The Jo , a fuschia underwire two-piece, is the suit that belongs in every woman’s swimwear wardrobe this summer, according to Sitar. 

“Every gal should have [The Jo] as their ultimate hot girl summer suit. It is stunning. It's this beautiful fuchsia with a shimmering finish on the material,” she says. “ … It feels like a confidence boost when I put that suit on. I feel like a heartthrob in it, so I feel like everyone will, too.”

Sitar shot the creative for the campaign herself, and her main goal was to present the collection through an empowered lens for her community. While she loves to accessorize her swimwear with a cute scarf around her waist or a jumpsuit as a cover-up, Sitar’s advice for rocking a bikini with confidence this summer is simple.

“The best accessory to any beach is a smile and having a good time and surrounding yourself with people who make you feel good in what you’re wearing,” she says. “Life is so short and you should be able to enjoy all the things that you want to enjoy. It’s not worth worrying about something as simple as the way you look because it’s all going to end up being things that you look back on, and I think that’s the last thing that you’ll think of when you have great memories.”
