Laknavaram Lake is situated in the Govindaraopet mandal in the Mulugu district of the Telangana state. It is 80 kilometres from Warangal, 17 km from Mulugu, and 150 km from Hyderabad. Laknavaram is a man-made lake encircled by mountains and forests.

Laknavaram Lake was built by the Kakatiya Dynasty during the 13th century and is sometimes referred to as “Laknavaram Cheruvu.”

The lake stands out for its exceptional beauty, boasting 13 tiny islands connected by three separate suspension bridges, each measuring 160 metres long.

The entire area is surrounded by a lush green carpet, complemented by the presence of amazing water, and at times, you may even spot waterfalls as well.

Lake Laknavaram is an expansive water body, covering 10,000 acres and holding around 2,135,000,000 cubic feet (60,500,000 m3) of water. Serving a crucial role in irrigation, it contributes to over 3,500 acres of cultivated land.

The Laknavaram Hanging Bridge, commonly known as the Laknavaram Bridge, is a well-known site located in Telangana. In 2016, the Laknavaram Bridge was built by the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) to make it easier for people to reach the nearby Laknavaram Lake and boost tourism in the region. The bridge’s design was created by TSTDC engineers and architects, and a local construction company carried out the construction.

The Laknavaram Bridge stretches over the Laknavaram Lake and is encircled by picturesque hills and lush greenery. This suspension bridge is 1.8 metres wide, spans 160 metres, and is constructed with sturdy steel cables to endure harsh weather conditions, including strong winds and earthquakes, thus ensuring its durability. The bridge’s elevated position offers a breathtaking view of the lake and its surroundings, making it a popular attraction for nature enthusiasts and photography enthusiasts.

Laknavaram Lake is situated approximately 6 km from Govindaraopet Mandal, which is about 75 km away from Warangal. If you’re travelling from Warangal, take NH 202 towards Mulugu. Continue straight, passing Mulug and Jangalapalli. After that, make a right turn and drive for 7 km to reach the lake. History of Laknavaram Lake

The history of Laknavaram Lake goes back to Kakatiya reign. Also known as Laknavaram Cheruvu, this lake was first discovered by the Kakatiya rulers. It was then the rulers of Kakatiya reign built a small sluice gate that eventually transformed it into vast lake that now serve as water reservoir. Laknavaram Lake still serves as a source of irrational water for an area of around 3,500 acres of land, to six villages that are located nearby. It has the capacity to hold around 2.135 tmc ft. of water.

Laknavaram Lake, Warangal Overview

Laknavaram is a scenic manmade lake that boasts of immense natural beauty in the form of forests and hills. It is located in Govindaraopet mandal in the Mulugu district of Telangana, 80 km away from Warangal. It houses 13 small islands and also has 160 m long hanging bridge that connects the 3 islands. It is a popular for a picnic, boating and stunning sunset views.

There are also a few attractions around the lake such as the Ramappa Temple which is about 40 minutes away; it dates back to 1213 AD and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. One can also visit the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary that features streams originating from the Godavari river and also animals like tigers, leopards and panthers. The gushing Bogatha Waterfalls are a must-visit for trekkers and for those looking for a swim! There is also a resort with four cottages near Laknavaram Cheruvu Lake that is run by the state government that are easily accessible via a ferry from the main banks of the lake.

LAKNAVARAM LAKE - 10,000 Acres of Sheer Bliss!

It’s the month of August, and I am reminded of our patriotic song “ Sare Jahan Se Acha Hindustan Hamara Hamara …” India is truly vast and diverse in its culture, cuisine and linguistics. Where else can you find this strange amalgamation of religions and languages? Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Konkan, Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Guajarati, Odia, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Urdu, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Assamese and various dialects of each language. Each state has its own vibrant culture and cuisine.

A car in hand and a nice lovely weekend is the perfect combination for an outing. What more does one ask for? And Hyderabad is blessed with vicinities that enchant. Be it Kuntala Waterfalls at a distance of 260 KMs or Nagarjuna Sagar at a distance of 160 KMs. Hyderabad is ensconced cosily between Karnataka, Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh. This melange of cultures is always unique. It’s the differences in these cultures that gives a distinctive identity to each one of us and thereby makes us special.

Today, let me take you to Laknavaram Lake, near Warangal in Telangana State. Just 224 KMs from Hyderabad and it can be reached by Road in roughly 4 hours. Add up another half an hour for a Tea break. Of late, this place seems to slowly gain popularity and its due recognition. Telangana Tourism maintains this lake and it has a Resort, if you wish to stay back for the night. This lake is surrounded by a lush green forest and ornamental mountains as the backdrop; it sure leaves a spell on your senses.

Uppal Ring Road Bus Stop

Start your day early and on reaching Uppal Ring Road head towards Warangal Highway and keep going. The road straight leads to Warangal. If you had started too early, and you are feeling hungry, have a pit stop at Warangal for breakfast. This being the District Headquarters, there are quite a few good hotels.

Govindaraopet

And now that you have done your pet pooja head towards Govindraopet which is another 80 KMs. From here, meander through the forest for another 6 KMs and you will reach the Lake. A nominal entry fee of INR 10/- for Adults and INR 5/- for children is charged to enter the Lake. Boat Ride costs INR 50/- per Adult and INR 30/- for a Child and if you wish to experience the lake in a Speed Boat, be prepared to shell out INR 300/- . The timings are 08.00 AM to 05.30 PM.

Laknavaram Cheruvu

Small islands interspersed in this Lake add to the beauty, but what leaves you speechless is the hanging bridges connecting these mini islands. And this lake is famous for these hanging bridges. Post Monsoon is the best time to visit this lake, since the lake is full to its brim, the lush forests are alluringly greener on all the sides and the road leading to this place makes it a visual treat. The Kakatiya rulers were the first to discover this hidden lake. The tranquil surroundings make you relax and add a soothing effect on your mind, body and soul.

If you plan a two day trip to this place, you can enjoy your Day One at Laknavaram Lake and on Day Two, you can spend time among the historic temples of Kakatiya reign in Warangal.

Leave Warangal around 03.00 PM after lunch, so that you reach the outskirts of Hyderabad at Sunset. Sunset on the way to Hyderabad near Ghatkesar/Bibinagar looks wonderful. Driving at that hour is a delight, mark my words.

2 Thousand Pillar Temple

At a distance of 6 Kms from Warangal Railway Station (in Hanmakonda part of the city), Thousand Pillar Temple is one of the finest examples of Kakatiya architecture. Rudra Deva built this temple in 1163 AD in the style of star shaped Chalukyan temples and named after him as Sri Rudreshwara Swamy Temple, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Separate shires for Lord Surya & Lord Vishnu in the temple are connected to main shrine by a square mandap in the centre. A beautifully carved giant Nandi (bull) is seen on the platform connecting the shrines. The exterior wall of the temple, the ceiling slabs and the four central pillars of the mandap are decorated with finely carved sculptures. Poojas are still performed. The actual thousand pillar hall situated behind Nandi in the temple complex is currently being renovated by the archelogical department and closed for visitors. The temple is located between Warangal and Hanmakonda Chowrasta, close to main road. Timings: 6 AM .....

3 Warangal Fort

At a distance of 5 Kms from Warangal Railway Station, the historic Warangal Fort was built by Kakatiyas in 12th Century AD. The King Rudradeva started construction of this Fort when the capital was shifted from Hanamankonda. It was further extended by his nephew, Ganapati Deva and was finally completed by Princess Rani Rudrama Devi. The fort was mostly destroyed by invaders and only the ruins can be seen now. It is one of the popular tourist places to visit near Hyderabad as a weekend getaway. Most of the fort is filled with settlements and small area in the center of fort has Open Air Museum with architectural remains of Kakatiyas. The famous stone gateways (called Kirti Toranas) are situated here, about 30 feet high and still standing, a masterpiece carved from a single rock. The Shambhulingeshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is opposite to Open Air Museum. Timings: 10 AM - 7 PM. Entry Fee: .....

4 Bhadra Kali Temple

At a distance of 5 Kms from Warangal Railway Station, the Bhadra Kali Temple is situated on top a hillock towards Hanamkonda. This temple is famous for 2.7 meter stone idol of the deity with eight arms and a weapon in each hand, in sitting posture. This deity is believed to be worshipped by the Chalukyan ruler Pulakesin-II in the year 625 AD. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, found in peaceful mood. This temple is located on the banks of Bhadrakali Lake. There is a park adjacent to the temple along Bhadrakali Lake which also has a shrine for Lord Siva in the form of Sri Chandra Mouleeswara. Brahmotsavas are held every year in the month of April/May in a grand manner. The festival attracts thousands of devotees from all over the region of Telangana. Timings: 5 AM to 1 PM & 3 - 9 PM. It is one of the famous weekend getaways from Hyderabad and among the most important places of heritage in Telangana. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Ramappa Temple or Ramalingeshwara Temple was built by General Recherla Rudra, during the period of the Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva in 1213 AD. At a distance of 29 km from Ramappa Temple, and 75 km from Warangal, Laknavaram Lake is a wonderful artificial lake situated close to Etunagaram highway (NH202). It is the large lake in the Warangal district, and among the top Ramappa tourist places. Laknavaram Lake was built by Kakatiyas in the 13th century. It still provides water for irrigation over 50,000 acres of land. The magnificent lake is surrounded by the thick forests of Eturnagaram Sanctuary. Hyderabad: Water bodies are brimming and landscapes have turned lush. The monsoon has cast a spell over tourist destinations which are offering some of the most pleasant views and an opportunity to unwind in the lap of nature.

One such destination whose beauty has heightened this monsoon is Laknavaram Lake . Amidst dense jungles and breathtaking hillocks, the lake has turned into a hotspot for weekend travellers. Around 213 km from Hyderabad, it takes over four-and-half hours by road to reach Laknavaram via Jangaon. One can also take a train or bus to Warangal and hire a taxi to Laknavaram.
