Family holiday FAQs

Got questions ahead of your getaway? We're here to give you a helping hand with your family holiday FAQs...

That's right, you asked, our Jet2 Agony Aunt answered all your burning questions about family holidays below...

"Can I take formula on the plane for babies?"

Phil, dad of two

Yes, you can pre-make up milk to take on the plane, and it can exceed your 100ml liquid allowance, but you’ll just have to test it at security at the airport. Or you could take your own container for powder with you and ask a member of Cabin Crew for hot water.

"Does a pushchair count as baggage, and is there an extra charge for it?"

Katie, mum of one

You’ll actually receive an extra 10kg luggage allowance for one pushchair, included in the price of your booking. Plus, infants under two now also get an additional 10kg hold baggage allowance++ on top, which is added to the accompanying parent or adult’s baggage.

"Which Jet2holidays destination is best if you’re on a budget?"

Gina, mum of one

Sunny Beach in Bulgaria, the Algarve in Portugal and Marmaris in Turkey are three bang-for-your-buck hotspots we can’t rave about enough. They’re consistently kind on the wallet, whether you’re out and about or making the most of All Inclusive at your hotel.

Rsz_boj_sunny_beach_0418-10

"Do I pay full price for my children?"

Jordan, dad of one

Infants under two go free*, woo! And as Jet2holidays is the Home of Free Child Places™+, look out for these when you’re searching for your holiday – you'll get one free place per two full-paying adults.

"Are travel cots included in the price of a room?"

Adam, dad of three

This very much depends on the property, but it could well be the case. If you wanted to bring your own travel cot, your extra 10kg luggage allowance covers that.

"Where can I read reviews written by other families?"

Susan, mum of two

Our Real Reviews pages! Head to www.jet2holidays.com/real-reviews to find even more – you can toggle on the most recent ones too.

"When a hotel says there’s a kids’ club, does it have an age range? And how will I know if there are age-specific activities?"

Karen, mum of two

Different hotels’ children’s clubs will have different age restrictions, so have a look under the ‘Children’s Facilities’ tab on the webpage for the property you’re booking to see the breakdown. Lots of hotels aim to cater for tots, teens and inbetweens – like the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife!

* Applicable for all infants under the age of two years on the date of return. Infants are not entitled to a flight seat (they must be seated with a parent or guardian) or a 22kg baggage allowance. + One free child place per two paying adults. Subject to availability. • b BabyBest3 Posted 16-07-18 I flew with jet2 in June. There was no mention of this. I think that you can only take two pieces of equipment perchild though so we brought two prams and two travel cots. They were weighed/checked but there was nothing said about weight limit and they would definitely have exceeded 10kg!
  • b BabyBest3 Posted 16-07-18 They didn't weigh the pram and buggy, only the cots
  • b BabyBest3 Posted 16-07-18 Sarah030316 said: I’m just seeing mixed things online. Never seen a weight limit with ot… What are you planning on bringing? I've flew with prams/buggies several times and they have never weighed them before so it seems like nonsense saying a combined weight. I've never seen any airline weigh them

  • b BabyBest3 Posted 17-07-18 This was our plan until I emailed our resort to be told it was €7 a night! I've a 6mo and a 22mo so I needed two cots as didn't want toddler to wake up and go walkies in a place she didn't know! So it was €98 to hire the two cots fot the week! So we just brought two cots

Jet2 travel cot?!

sam86 · 06/06/2010 22:23

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had flown with Jet2 recently and taken a travel cot? I'm booking flights with them for next summer, and will have our 3 year old and 1 year old with us, so will have paid for a full seat for our eldest and an infant charge for the youngest. We will need to take a travel cot and a buggy. I know the buggy is fine as long as it weighs less than 10kgs, but all I can see is that "there are no concessions for travel cots". Does this mean I would have to purchase an extra piece of hold luggage when buying the tickets to cover the travel cot, and make sure that we dont exceed our luggage weight limit? Sorry if I'm being dumb just want to be sure!! Virgin seem to have automatically blocked premium numbers on our phone so I am going to have to ask them to remove it as I cant dial the Jet2 helpline, so just wondered if anyone on here had any experience with it? thanks, Sam

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

JetBlue, Southwest planes nearly collide – experts warn of air traffic control fatigue

travel cot jet 2

Two planes were cleared on a collision path at Washington Reagan National Airport on Thursday. Thankfully, air traffic controllers got both aircraft to stop before disaster struck.

JetBlue flight 1554 from Washington to Boston was cleared for takeoff, while Southwest flight 2937 to Orlando was cleared to cross the same runway.

The JetBlue plane had already begun its takeoff roll as the Southwest jet approached its path.

Air traffic controllers can be heard in a recording of the incident warning both planes to stop.

“JetBlue 1554, stop,” one controller said. “Southwest stop! Southwest 2937, stop!” another said.

In statements to USA TODAY, both airlines acknowledged the incident and said they would cooperate with any follow-up investigations.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate.

Issues in air traffic control

It’s just the latest in a string of close calls that experts say highlight the narrow margin of safety with an overworked pool of air traffic controllers.

A panel previously established by the FAA released a report Friday warning that air traffic controllers were at high risk of fatigue and encouraging the agency to update its scheduling policies to address the issue.

Under new rules that FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said will go into effect in 90 days, the agency will increase the rest period for air traffic controllers to 10 hours between shifts, up from nine, and will require a minimum 12-hour rest period before midnight shifts.

Whitaker said in a briefing about the report with journalists on Friday that the agency is also aware of understaffing throughout the system. Both problems contribute to concerns at the agency but are being handled separately.

“We’re understaffed throughout the population of controllers,” he said. “We have been doing everything within our power to increase controller hiring.”
