Host Healthcare is amazing! Best travel co out there! Amanda is the recruiter I have & she is wonderful. She is there from the beginning. From searching for the perfect assignment throughout completion of a contract - Amanda is there for me! Host Healthcare treats their nurses so well

travel radiology nurse jobs

Amanda Goad is the most amazing recruiter I have worked with. She is the most responsive and go-getter. She is in constant contact with you or hospitals to get you offers and/or advocating for you. She is super motivated and helpful. If you have the opportunity to use her, you will not regret it.

travel radiology nurse jobs

Needed to move across country to be next to my partner, but blindly jumping into a full time job for a hospital system I was not familiar with was out of the question. Host Healthcare (Natalie G specifically) stood by me and helped me fulfill my absurdly specific requests. I was a first time time traveler and I couldn't have made it without the support I received!
Just finished my first contract with Host Healthcare (fifth overall) and they were amazing! Specifically my recruiter Jenny Berroth. Jenny was so helpful and easy to communicate with. I had a couple issues come up and Jenny was all over them and took care of everything so I could just concentrate on being a nurse, while she handled the rest. I can’t recommend Host and Jenny enough! You have to give Host and Jenny a try, you’ll be glad you did!

Travel Nursing Reviews

Jennifer, rn.

The response time from my recruiter and nurse specialist is amazing! They both have been so great to work with on my first assignment out in California!!! Chad and Samantha both are super caring and very responsive! I already extended my contract with the hospital because of the smooth process. They made the transition from Florida to California a lot loss stressful than I imagined. Would definitely recommend them both!!!

My recruiter, and other staff I have had the pleasure of interacting with, are all so friendly and helpful. My recruiter is responsive, and even reached out while she was on vacation to check on me! I’ve worked with other agencies in the past, but Stability is next level when it comes to making your travel nursing experience as seamless as possible! Special shout out to Lindsay (best recruiter ever) and Tracy. Amazing people to work with.

Brittany J.

My recruiter is very responsive and personable. I have NEVER had any issues with them!! This agency even has PTO! None of my co workers with other agencies have this benefit!! Also the rates are equal or higher than most other agencies!! Everything feels more like family than business and for that I would choose stability over any other agency!! I am so happy I chose to work with them!

Sopheare C.

My recruiter Amanda is amazing and always timely with her responses. Debbie who is my nurse experience specialist who is with me all times of the contract is truly awesome. Love how responsive she is and will answer any and all my questions. Big thanks to Jesse my compliance coordinator for making all the appointments and getting me travel ready. Can’t thank my team enough for all they do. Any question or issue I have they resolve right away. And I love that they breakdown each contract into a spread so you know exactly what your getting for the terms of the contract.

I have been incredibly impressed by the professionalism, ease of communication, ability to have all requirements for onboarding fulfilled in a timely manner, and just overall outstanding service. Lindsay Hernandez is my particular recruiter and she has been a pleasure to work with, as well as all the team members at Stability. I’m looking forward to staying with them for my next assignment. I highly recommend them to my nursing friends, and anyone looking to travel as a nurse!

Education requirements

Travel nurses must have either an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.

Experience requirements

Nomad Health usually requires at least one to two years of experience working in the field before you can qualify for a travel nurse job. However, every facility has their own unique requirements for travel nurse jobs, so make sure you read up on the job description to make sure you have enough experience required for the role.

Travel nurse jobs require you to possess specific hard and soft skills. Depending on the specific travel nurse job you’re applying for, some of these skills may be more essential than others. In general, facilities hiring for travel nurse jobs want you to have the following skills:

  • Strong clinical skills
  • Adaptability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working in new and diverse environments
  • Collaboration with other healthcare professionals

Health requirements

Travel nurse jobs require applicants to have an up-to-date physical examination in addition to immunizations. Depending on the facility, you may also be required to take and pass a drug test such as a urine test.

Travel nurse job duties and responsibilities

Each specialty within travel nursing has its own unique set of job duties and responsibilities. However some duties and responsibilities are common across most specialties, including:

Patient care

Travel nurses provide direct patient care using the training and skills from their area of specialization. Travel nurses may assist with medical procedures, administer medications and treatments, respond to emergencies, and assist patients with activities of daily living.

Assessments and monitoring

Travel nurses conduct assessments to determine the patient's status and needs. They also monitor patient vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatment.

Develop care plans

Travel nurses develop tailored care plans in collaboration with other healthcare team members. They work together to adjust care plans based on the progress of the patient.

Documentation

Travel nurses maintain up-to-date and accurate patient records by documenting treatments, interventions performed, patient responses, and patient progress notes.

Patient and family education

Travel nurses educate patients and their families about health conditions, medications administered, treatment plans, and discharge care.

Emergency response

Travel nurses respond quickly during medical emergencies and coordinate with other healthcare professionals.

Travel nurses adhere to facility policies along with any state-wide nursing regulations. This can include things like maintaining patient confidentiality and following proper infection control guidelines.

Operate equipment and technology

Travel nurses know how to operate medical equipment and technology used for patient care and monitoring.

Continuous learning

Travel nurses stay up to date with the latest nursing practices and standards.

Why consider a travel nurse job?

There are plenty of good reasons why considering a travel nurse job is a smart move. From financial incentives to personal growth, a travel job might be just what you need to take the next step in your nursing career.

High demand for travel nurses

With persistent nursing staff shortages, travel nurse jobs remain in demand. Because the demand is high, you can sleep easy knowing that your job is secure and less susceptible to economic downturns.

Competitive pay

Travel nurse jobs may pay more than staff nurse jobs. Many things can impact travel pay including your experience, education, location, credentials, and facility needs. When you browse travel nurse jobs on Nomad, you’ll see a pay breakdown (including the travel stipend) of every job to know what you can earn before you apply.

Travel nurse jobs provide an opportunity to work with new technologies. Common technology that travel nurses get exposure to may include:

  • Electronic health record systems (EHR)
  • Telehealth platforms
  • Portable monitoring devices
  • Smart infusion pumps
  • Patient lifts and transfer devices
  • Wearable health technology
  • Mobile health apps
  • Barcode medication administration systems (BCMA)
  • Advanced wound care technologies
  • Communication tools

Interdisciplinary collaboration

Travel nurse jobs allow you to collaborate cross-functionally with interdisciplinary healthcare staff such as physicians and staff nurses to allied health professionals. When you work closely with these teams, you’ll get a broader perspective on patient care which you can add to your skill set.

Career advancement

Travel nurse jobs can put you on the fast track to learn about the latest education, techniques, treatments, and equipment used in the field. If you’re interested in getting ahead of the curve, applying for a travel nurse job might be right for you.

Visit new locations

One of the biggest perks of travel nurse jobs is deciding where you want to work. From the city to the facility, it’s up to you. Accepting travel jobs in new locations also exposes you to new facilities and patient populations you may not experience in a regular staff position.

Tips for finding the best travel nurse jobs

Most nurses agree that the best travel nurse jobs offer a combination of high compensation and opportunities to expand your clinical experience. However, what makes a travel nurse job the “best” usually depends on personal preferences, career goals, and financial goals.

Research travel nurse job agencies

To find the best travel nurse job for you, research is key. First, you need to determine which travel agencies offer travel nurse jobs. Unfortunately, not all agencies work with travel nurses.

Read travel nurse reviews

Next, you should consider the reputation of the agency you’re considering working with. Use a search engine to read testimonials and reviews other travel nurses have left about the agency. These reviews should give you a general idea of whether the agency meets your standards, and if other travel nurses recommend them.

Compare job benefits

While pay may often be the most important factor in travel nurse jobs, remember that additional perks such as stipends for scrubs, licenses, and travel, along with health insurance and the option to invest in a 401(k) should be factored into the equation. Unlike Nomad, not all agencies offer these types of benefits, so it's important to compare the additional perks before you accept a travel nurse job.

Top locations for travel RN jobs

The demand for travel nurse jobs varies across different states based on factors such as the overall demand for nurse support, the number of healthcare facilities, and the demographics of the regional population. Additionally, states with larger populations and an advanced healthcare infrastructure may need more travel nurses than others.

As one of the biggest states, California has multiple medical facilities in densely populated areas like Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Francisco that often hire for travel nurse jobs. California also has strict nurse-to-patient ratio laws, which bodes well for patient safety and nurse satisfaction. Additionally, California has a high cost of living, which may result in attractive pay rates.

Like California, certain high-growth metropolitan areas in Texas have travel nurse jobs available including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. Because Texas regularly experiences public health emergencies like tornadoes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters, the need for travel nurses may be high.

Because Florida has an older-than-average population and an expansive medical system, the demand for nurse travelers is high, especially in cities like Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, and Orlando. Like Texas, Florida also experiences several natural disasters, including hurricanes, which often result in spikes in demand for travel nurses.

The dense population and high number of healthcare facilities in New York make it a hotspot for travel RN jobs, especially in New York City. Additionally, due to extremely cold winters, there may be an increase in cold-weather emergencies that require medical attention.

Because Arizona experiences a yearly influx of winter visitors, there is a seasonal strain on healthcare systems there which can increase the demand for travel nurses.

How to prepare for your first travel nurse job

If it’s your first time accepting a travel nurse job, there are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind that will help you feel prepared and ready to go on your first day. Every travel nurse job is different, but excelling in one or more of these areas may ensure you are set up for success.

Ask about orientation

One of the most important questions you can ask your hiring manager is about the orientation and onboarding process for your travel RN job. Knowing how much support you will have at the beginning and during your assignment will help you set realistic expectations for your first week on the job.

Be adaptable

Being adaptable is the key to starting any travel RN job. You will need to be prepared for ambiguity and performing tasks that you may not have much experience with.

Build relationships

Along the way, remember to network and build relationships with your new colleagues. Connect with other travel nurses and learn about their experiences with the facility and traveling in general.

Pack wisely

Remember to pack all the essentials you will need for the duration of your travel assignment. Depending on where your travel nurse job is, it may be difficult to find a drug store or other convenience stores for items at the last minute, especially if you’re working in a rural area. We recommend packing extra pairs of scrubs, toiletries, and anything else to make you comfortable during your stay.

Frequently asked questions about travel nurse jobs

Are travel nurse jobs in high demand.

Job Description

City Rochester

Department Travel

The registered nurse (RN) in the Internal Travel Team at Mayo Clinic will rotate across Mayo Clinic sites in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota and Wisconsin as determined by patient care needs.

Our ICU RNs support our critical care settings across all of our Mayo Clinic sites. Our critical care units vary in acuity across the enterprise. The role and responsibilities of the ICU RN within the Internal Travel Team may vary based on patient acuity and workload. Duties may include assessing/monitoring patients, administering medications, providing wound care and other interventions as ordered, assisting with basic needs, accurate documentation, and responding to emergencies.  Additional information can be found on our  Travel RN website.

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. The registered nurse (RN) in the Mayo Clinic Department of Nursing Central Staffing Pool will provide contingency staffing support across Mayo Clinic nursing sites as determined by staffing and patient care needs. As a Mayo Clinic employee, the RN actualizes Mayo Clinic core values and culture. The RN will travel on a routine basis to various locations. Flexibility and adaptability are essential in work assignments and work schedules.  This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Holders of F1 status eligible for post-completion OPT are welcome to apply. This role is NOT eligible to participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

During the selection process you may participate in a virtual (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. During the virtual interview, a question will appear on your screen, and you will have time to consider each question before responding. You will have the opportunity to re-record your answer to each question — Mayo Clinic will only see the final recording. The complete interview will be reviewed by a Mayo Clinic staff member and you will be notified of next steps as appropriate.

Requirements for ICU RNs:

Miracles of St. Matrona in Our Days

Stories from letters to the editors of pravoslavie.ru.

“ Of course she helped me, and not just once!”

The most important moments in my life:

—Through her holy prayers, I obtained my own apartment in my favorite region of Moscow (there was a real possibility of having to move to another end of the city).

—I found a very good job, my dream job (this was twelve years ago, but I am still working here!).

I went out during one of our lunch breaks for a stroll, and prayed to Matronyshka for guidance. And when I turned the corner I practically ran head-on into my future wife. As it turns out, she was just returning from Pokrov Convent [where the relics of St. Matrona are], where she was praying about the same thing that I was praying about.

Well in fact Blessed Matrona is my favorite and dearest saint!

Ekaternia Doroshenkova

“ Dry roses sprouted fresh growth.”

Hello, brothers and sisters. I would like to tell you the story of a miracle. My mother told me about it. In 2012, a particle of the relics of St. Matrona of Moscow was brought to us in Krasnoyarsk [Siberia]. People waited in line for several hours in order to venerate her relics. While standing in line my mother heard this story from a nurse who worked in the oncology ward. This nurse has venerated St. Matrona for a long time, prays to her, and has been to her reliquary in the Moscow Pokrov Convent several times.

At the convent they gave her some dry roses that were blessed on the relics of the saint, and she brought these to the dying woman. In the train (it takes four whole days to travel to us by train) a miracle happened: Those dry rose began to sprout fresh growth. And when she arrived home and gave the roses to the patient, she was healed.

Wondrous are Thy works, O Lord! Holy Blessed Matronushka, pray to Christ for us!

Ekaterina Doroshenkova

“ I immediately understood that this money was brought help you!”

I would like to share another little miracle of my own.

In 2010, after a long interval, I had the opportunity to finish the last year of the university. They were letting me finish only for money. With God’s help I finished the first semester. I borrowed money from my employer with a year’s postponement of repay. I wanted to take out a bank loan for the second and last semester. But two different banks denied me credit.

I had no one to count on for help, because my parents live very modestly.

In just a few days a colleague at work (with whom I was not even close friends, but she knew about my situation with the tuition), brought me the sufficient amount on loan.

As it turns out, her mother had the day before brought her this money, which she had saved up just for her. She didn’t need the money at the moment, and there was nothing to spend it on. She said, “I immediately understood that this money was brought to help you!”

This is how Blessed Matrona helped me through kind people. I received very obvious help through her prayers throughout that school year.

Blessed Matrona, pray to Christ God for us!

Tatiana Ketova

“ My pain went away in literally just a few minutes.”

Not long ago, Matronyshka helped me: My relative went on a pilgrimage to Matushka Matronushka and brought us blessed oil as a gift. I had baked pies in the oven for the children when they arrived and in the process burned my finger on the hot baking pan. A wide, white strip appeared immediately. In a panic, I didn’t know what to use on it—a raw potato, cold water, butter, oil all passed through my mind…

But I had read contrary opinions about all of these cures at one time. Then a precise thought came into my mind: “oil from Matronushka”. I applied the oil to the burn with prayer, stood a few minutes before the icons, prayed some more (I asked that at least to take the pain away, because I had to go to work that evening, and I worked in rubber gloves with water).

After these few minutes the pain had gone away completely. I finished baking the pies, went to work, and redid various things; the burned area quickly turned red, and the expected large boils did not appear. It all went away calmly and unnoticeably thanks to Matronushka.
