Island kitchens are incredibly popular in home designs and open concept living areas. So, it only stands to reason that you’d see the island kitchen trend showing up in the RV industry.

Of course, travel trailers being one of the most popular types of RV, you are sure to find more than a few impressive travel trailers with an island kitchen.

Though this also means that with so many models and optional floorplans on the RV market today, it can be a little challenging to find the right RV trailer with an island kitchen.

You might even be wondering what are some of the best travel trailers with an island kitchen? Here are the 7 Great Travel Trailer Floor Plans that feature kitchen island:

Heartland Wilderness WD 2775 RB Travel Trailer

2020 jayco eagle ht 280rsok travel trailer, 2021 keystone outback 330rltravel trailer, 2020 crossroads zinger zr292re travel trailer, 2021 grand design imagine 3250bh travel trailer, 2020 coachmen freedom express liberty edition 320bhdsle travel trailer, 2021 jayco jay flight 34rsbs travel trailer.

Of course, these aren’t the only makes and models that deserve a good hard look. Especially with how versatile travel trailers have become in recent years.

There are certainly going to be great travel trailers with an island kitchen that meet niche interests.

For example, a family that likes to boondock off the grid without the immediate resources of a campground or RV park might think the 2020 Jayco – Eagle HT 280RSOK Travel Trailer is the best travel trailer with an island kitchen.

With so many great options out there, we decided it was high time to roll up our sleeves and take a look at some of the best travel trailers with a kitchen in the new and gently pre-owned marketplaces.

This included a tour through some of the top manufacturers as well as some of the up-and-coming stars in the travel trailer industry.

Along the way, we kept a keen eye out for spacious travel trailer kitchens with an island infused with special features, as well as key things like the material build quality and thoughtful engineering.

7 Excellent Travel Trailer Floor Plans With Kitchen Island

Reviews Of The Best Travel Trailers With A Kitchen Island

With how popular kitchen islands are in the world of RVs there are bound to be manufacturers who are using the same kitchen island from a Class A, Class C motorhome, or luxury fifth-wheel trailer in some of the travel trailers in their line.

This engineering concept is less about cutting corners, and more about getting the kitchen island concept right the first time around.

So, we tried to keep an eye out for some of the more popular kitchen concepts and features that might fit niche needs.

After all, there is surely more than one foody out there that has specific priorities for their travel trailer kitchen.

Not to mention a family who deploys the kitchen island as prime real estate for laying out grab-and-go snacks as well as offer up meals with a buffet-style lineup.

Throughout the reviewing process, we tried to be mindful of some of the more popular niche needs. Then did our best to pair them with a travel trailer kitchen island to match.

1. Heartland Wilderness WD 2775 RB Travel Trailer

Heartland - Wilderness WD 2775 RB

  • Dry Weight of 6,354 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,014 lbs.
  • GVWR of 7,400 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 572 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 45 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 80 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 40 gallons
  • 6 Gallon Hot Water Heater
  • 3 Burner Stove With Oven
  • Electric Residential Refrigerator
  • Sleeps up to 6 people
  • Air Conditioner 13,500
  • Propane Furnace Rated to 30,000 BTUs

The Heartland – Wilderness WD 2775 RB is a large travel trailer with a lot of space and luxury.

This particular floor plan of the Heartland Wilderness uses a wide-open concept with the kitchen island as the central focal point.

The island features a dual basin sink, yet there’s still plenty of counter space.

It’s a great location to set up grab-and-go snacks or prep and serving platters for mealtimes.

The rest of the kitchen in the Heartland – Wilderness WD 2775 RB is well appointed.

There is a three burner stove, with an oven with enough internal volume to roast a large chicken, as well as a microwave and a large residential electric refrigerator.

The bathroom in the rear of the Heartland – Wilderness WD 2775 RB is rather impressive.

There are the usual flushing toilet and single basin sink as well as a large shower stall. The basin is even deep enough to let you bathe a small child.

The fresh and black water storage tanks are large at 45 and 40 gallons respectively. The 80-gallon gray water tank is truly massive for a travel trailer.

This speaks to the Heartland – Wilderness WD 2775 RB being capable of supporting a family for a few days of off the grid boondocking, while also being very comfortable parked up for a long week at an RV park, before needing to dump the gray water tanks on your way home.

All this space, the central kitchen island, and sleeping areas all speak to the Heartland – Wilderness WD 2775 RB being one of the best travel trailers with a kitchen island for a family of four

2. 2021 Jayco Eagle HT 280RSOK Travel Trailer

Jayco - Eagle HT 280RSOK

  • Dry Weight of 8,620 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,530 lbs.
  • GVWR of 10,130 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 1,175 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 75 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 65 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 32.5 gallons
  • RV Absorption Refrigerator
  • Air Conditioner 15,000
  • Propane Furnace Rated to 35,000 BTUs

The 2021 Jayco – Eagle HT 280RSOK is another large travel trailer with a central kitchen island.

The kitchen itself is somewhat compact, giving away some square footage to the large midship bathroom with washer and dryer prep.

Though there is certainly enough room for a family of four to relax and cook without anyone getting in each other’s way.

The kitchen itself is well appointed with a three burner stove and oven, as well as a microwave that comes in the standard package.

The RV refrigerator is also heavy-duty enough to handle life gong over bumpy roads without the foibles that some residential electric refrigerators suffer when they take to the roads less traveled.

If there is a complaint about the kitchen island in the 2021 Jayco – Eagle HT 280RSOK, it’s that most of the counter space is on the right-hand side.

This makes it a little awkward to hand wash a large batch of dishes.

There’s also no dishwasher available in the standard Jayco Eagle package. You’d have to have one installed as an optional extra.

3. 2021 Keystone Outback 330RL Travel Trailer

Keystone – Outback 330RL

  • Dry Weight of 8,839 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,661 lbs.
  • GVWR of 10,500 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 1,100 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 60 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 76 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 38 gallons

The 2021 Keystone – Outback 330RL is a spacious travel trailer that is loaded with creature comforts.

The kitchen island really stands out in this floorplan with a large skylight directly overhead.

Motes of light stream in giving natural light and making it easy to see what you are doing.

It’s strangely handy if you happen to need to wash up some dishes, but everyone else in the family wants the lights turned low in the RV to watch a movie.

The kitchen island is perfectly positioned between the cooking area, with its three-burner stove and 10-cubic foot RV refrigerator, and the dining area’s table and chairs.

This lets you set up snacks and appetizers close at hand without anything interfering with the classic kitchen “Triangle” of the sink, stove, and refrigerator.

Though for all this thoughtful positioning, there still are some minor layout issues in the 2021 Keystone – Outback 330RL’s kitchen.

The primary pantry is on the other side of the refrigerator from the stove and the sink counter.

Even if you were to switch the orientation of the refrigerator door it would still get in the way if you needed to get something out of the pantry and fridge at the same time.

Though this is a minor issue that’s easily overcome by a little advanced planning.

For the foody in the family, there’s also an impressive outdoor kitchen that comes as part of the standard package with the 2021 Keystone – Outback 330RL.

It includes its own flip-out stove that stands like an outdoor island counter, as well as an outdoor refrigerator for keeping cold drinks and snacks.

4. 2020 CrossRoads Zinger ZR292RE Travel Trailer

CrossRoads – Zinger ZR292RE

  • Dry Weight of 7,117 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 2,483 lbs.
  • GVWR of 9,600 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 802 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 51 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 44 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 44 gallons
  • Propane Furnace Rated to 25,000 BTUs

The 2020 CrossRoads – Zinger ZR292RE has a central island in the travel trailer’s kitchen with a large single basin sink.

The tradeoff here is that you only have a single sink basin when it comes time to wash and rinse dishes.

There is also open space under the counter for two chairs. It’s a great place to set up and eat breakfast or give the kids their own eating space.

Especially if you have a small child who needs space for a high chair, but you don’t necessarily want to put them at the large U-shaped dinette.

While the entire interior living space of the 2020 CrossRoads – Zinger ZR292RE uses an open concept, there is still a distinct kitchen area, dining area, and living area.

For instance, the sightlines from the recliners and the sofa are in no way interrupted by the kitchen island, which isn’t always the case with some of the competitor models at this size and price point.

When it comes time to go to bed, the U-shaped dinette and the sofa both convert into large sleeping areas.

The queen size master suite is positioned at the front of the 2020 CrossRoads – Zinger ZR292RE and is separated from the rest of the travel trailer by a hallway and the large single bathroom.

This gives the master suite its own sense of privacy. The bathroom shower stall is also large enough and has a deep enough basin to bathe a small child.

With all the living area, sleeping space, and a kitchen island with room to accommodate chairs, the 2020 CrossRoads – Zinger ZR292RE might be the best travel trailer with a kitchen island for a family with small children.

5. 2021 Grand Design Imagine 3250BH Travel Trailer

Grand Design – Imagine 3250BH

  • Dry Weight of 8,496 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,699 lbs.
  • GVWR of 10,195 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 844 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 52 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 90 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 45 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 10 people

The 2021 Grand Design – Imagine 3250BH is a large travel trailer with a kitchen island and a ton of sleeping space for a large family that loves to travel together.

The island in the interior kitchen is large with a large amount of countertop space to layout serving platters or grab-and-go snacks.

The way the open concept living area is laid out makes this travel trailer’s kitchen island the central command center.

The rest of the kitchen is stocked with a ton of storage space. There’s also a three burner stove with a large oven, a microwave, and an 8 cubic foot RV absorption refrigerator.

Not to be left out of the action, the nearby 40-inch flatscreen TV is mounted on a swing arm, that can be turned just enough to be viewed from the kitchen.

The 2021 Grand Design – Imagine 3250BH also has a great outdoor kitchen.

There’s a modest sink a 4 cubic foot exterior refrigerator, a cooktop range and there’s even an LP quick connect.

This lets you connect your gas grill directly to the RVs own liquid propane system.

6. 2020 Coachmen Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDSLE Travel Trailer

Coachmen - Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDSLE

  • Dry Weight of 7,952 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 2,548 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 879 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 49 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 66 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 33 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 8 people

The 2020 Coachmen – Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDSLE is a travel trailer with a kitchen island that was seemingly designed to accommodate families that need a distinctly separate space for the kids and parents.

The kitchen island includes a dual basin sink and is perfectly positioned at midship with easy access for everyone.

The kitchen itself is decked out with a three-burner propane range, a microwave, and a durable RV absorption refrigerator.

The appliances are built into a small slide-out section to help increase the open space. The kitchen island has two basins with countertop space on each side.

This might not seem like a big deal on paper, but this configuration makes it easy to wash, rinse, and dry dishes seamlessly.

It’s not always the case with some of the 2020 Coachmen – Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDSLE’s closest competitors.

Outside there’s an exterior camp kitchen. It features a small outdoor-grade refrigerator, as well as a cooktop and copious counter space.

This lets you cook outside on hot days to keep from competing with the RV’s interior air conditioner.

One of the things that helps the 2020 Coachmen – Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDSLE stand apart is that the rear is set up with its own privacy door, bunk beds, a J-Cube sofa with a table, and its own television.

This gives kids, particularly teenagers, their own space to sleep and hang out while letting the adults enjoy the open concept interior of the 2020 Coachmen – Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDSLE.

7. 2021 Jayco Jay Flight 34RSBS Travel Trailer

Jayco - Jay Flight 34RSBS

  • Dry Weight of 9,000 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 2,250 lbs.
  • GVWR of 11,250 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 1,290 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 80 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 71.5 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 39 gallons

The 2021 Jayco – Jay Flight 34RSBS is one of Jayco’s most popular and versatile travel trailers with a central kitchen island.

There is a dual basin sink built into the island with large counters on each side for washing and drying dishes or laying out buffet-style family meals.

It’s perfectly positioned for easy sightlines from the theater seating to the entertainment center.

The front of the 2021 Jayco – Jay Flight 34RSBS features a large master suite with a queen-size bed that’s built into the front’s power-retractable slide out.

The master suite is then separated from the open concept kitchen and living area by a spacious bathroom and a hallway.

Which Is Better A Dual Basin Or Single Basin Sink Kitchen Island?

Most travel trailers with a kitchen island have a sink built into them. This opens up more space in the cooking area, which is nice for when you are preparing meals.

Though the type of sink in the RV’s kitchen island can be a factor when it comes time to wash up afterward.

A dual basin sink is more convenient for washing a small number of dishes and rinsing them before drying.

You can’t really do this efficiently with a single basin sink. If you do happen to fall in love with a travel trailer that has a single basin sink in the kitchen island, you might want to ask the dealer about installing an optional dishwasher.

Does An Open Concept Limit Sleeping Space?

A lot of the travel trailers with a kitchen island use an open concept floorplan that combines the living room and kitchen into one large living area.

This open concept great room is especially handy for the person cooking meals as they don’t feel left out of the group.

The tradeoff with this open concept floor plan is that you lose some of the private sleeping space that other layouts have.

Kids and guests end up sleeping on a couch in the living room, rather than having something that feels like a private bedroom.

Though there are a few travel trailers with a kitchen island that make it a point to provide a separate private sleeping space.

The contemporary RV marketplace is rife with travel trailers that feature an island in the kitchen.

This makes it easier than ever to find the best travel trailer with a kitchen island that meets your family’s needs and travel preferences.

If you have a large family, or your teenagers need their own space in the RV, then the 2020 Coachmen – Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDSLE might be the best travel trailer with a kitchen island for you.

The separate bunk room with a couch, TV, and a closing door gives kids their own space to hang out and play games.

The master suite in the front with its own TV gives the adults plenty of distance and their own entertainment space.

If you like to boondock off the grid, without having to run for fresh water or emptying the wastewater tanks at a dump station, then the 2020 Jayco – Eagle HT 280RSOK might just be the best travel trailer with a kitchen island to meet your needs.

Not only does it have large tanks, but the open concept interior is rife with the comfort features you need when you are truly roughing it.

If you happen to have a foodie in your family who has a high-end kitchen and outdoor cooking demands, then the 2021 Keystone – Outback 330RL might be the best travel trailer with a kitchen island on this list.

Not only does it have a decked-out interior kitchen, but it also has a fully functional outdoor kitchen with gas hookups.

It’s a great option for hot days when you don’t want meal prep competing with the RV’s air conditioning.

Whatever your family’s travel needs and preferences happen to be, chances are the best travel trailer with a kitchen island to meet your demands, can be found somewhere on this list.

10 Best Travel Trailers With a Bunkhouse

Travel Trailers With Bunkhouse Cover

Sharing is caring!

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse are a great option for those with kids, but they are also a fun option for the kid in you. A bunkhouse offers that little bit of extra sleeping room that’s often lacking in standard travel trailers.

Plus, it’s great for traveling with friends or extended family when you need that extra bunk or two to make it happen. Adults typically prefer to avoid sleeping on the floor unless there are a lot of good bourbons involved.

Not all travel trailers with a bunkhouse are created equally, which is great for you if you’re in the market for one. They generally range from 22’ to 40’, with a ton of floorplan options and the efficiency of extra sleeping space.

What’s the Difference Between a Bunkhouse and a Travel Trailer?

What’s the Difference Between a Bunkhouse and a Travel Trailer

Technically, they’re both still travel trailers. The only difference is the bunkhouse option has bunk beds or some variation of a bunk. Travel trailers dominate the RV camping industry. There are so many of them it’s easy to get confused as to which is the best.

Manufacturers of travel trailers with a bunkhouse use some pretty ingenuous ways to fit those bunks in there as well, including lofts, which help maintain plenty of vertical space. There’s also a large enough variety, including affordable, mid-range, and premium options.

Plus, bunkhouse travel trailers always seem to have the edge regarding a suitable floor plan. If you lay out the bunkhouse models next to their standard cousins, it’s easy to see that bunkhouse versions often have a spacier layout.

10 Best Travel Trailers with a Bunkhouse

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse have a nice indoor aesthetic, especially when the bunkhouse resembles a loft. Depending on the size of your family, sleeping space is one of the key factors, along with budget and quality.

That said, here are some of the best travel trailers with a bunkhouse on the market today.

1. Jayco Jay Flight 294QBS

Travel Trailers with a Bunkhouse Jayco Jay Flight 294QBS Exterior

Our Pros and Cons:

✅ Quad bunks in the rear

⛔ Dark interior aesthetic might not be for everyone

  • UVW: 6,715lbs
  • GVWR: 8,250lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 910lbs
  • CCC: 1,535lbs
  • Length: 35’ 7”

The quad-bunk room in the back is very spacious. With two foldable beds for optional storage while the others are stationary. The camp-side bunks are a little wider than the right side, but there are plenty of windows and lights for all four.

The Jayco Jay Flight 294QBS sleeps up to 10. Not only can you bring your family along, but they can also bring their friends. Everyone will have a place to sleep.

There is only one full bath, which may have trouble accommodating 10 people, but it’s nice nonetheless. The Queen bed sits on the road side of the trailer, next to a loaded kitchen and entertainment combo, seamlessly integrated and loaded with amenities.

The dinette is U-shaped, restaurant style, and sits next to a jackknife sofa. The kitchen contains all the expected amenities, and it’s easy to take everything outside to the exterior kitchen if needed.

2. Grand Design Imagine 3210BH

Grand Design Imagine 3210BH Exterior

✅ Interior is one of the spaciest designs on the market

⛔Pass-through bathroom is lacking in the way of privacy

  • UVW: 8,394lbs
  • GVWR: 10,195lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 889lbs
  • CCC: 1,801lbs
  • Length: 36’ 11”

The Grand Design Imagine 3210BH pulls off a magic trick. It’s pretty standard looking from the outside (regarding travel trailer aesthetics). When you step inside, however, the amount of space is truly incredible. “Grand Design” indeed.

If you love the high-tech look, the theater seating is really well-thought-out and designed. The main HD TV sits above the dinette booth, with two flanking, upward-firing speakers.

With all that extra space, the 3210BH designed a quad-bunk room on one end, with two flip-top, 34” bunks on one side and two 30” bunks on the other. The exterior includes an outside kitchen with a fridge, grill, and a 9’ awning.

For those who have boondocking in mind, there is an option to add the Imagine Solar Package to support your power needs off the grid.

3. Keystone Hideout 21BHWE

Keystone Hideout 21BHWE Exterior

✅ Small and easy to tow

⛔ It may be too small for larger families

  • UVW: 4,496lbs
  • GVWR: 7,000lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 538lbs
  • CCC: 2,507lbs
  • Length: 25’ 4”

The Keystone Hideout is one of the most affordable travel trailers with a bunkhouse on our list, with an MSRP of $22,639. One of the main attractions of the Hideout 21BHWE is the versatility of the interior.

The jackknife sofa in the living room converts into a murphy bed, converting the front living space into a bedroom in just a few seconds. The Hideout also includes a set of bunks. Being a little smaller has limitations, so there is no quad-bunk here.

The bunk beds are double-size, and despite the small nature of the Hideout, there is still plenty of space inside, along with several storage options.

With that being said, you can still sleep 7 comfortably. This is also a lightweight travel trailer, making it much easier to hook up and tow, especially with the addition of four stabilizer jacks. The power awning is fully adjustable, and the exterior includes speakers for plenty of outdoor entertainment.

4. Palomino Puma 28BHSS

Travel Trailers with a Bunkhouse Palomino Puma 28BHSS Exterior

✅ The interior is high-quality, with a clear focus on craftsmanship

⛔ The EPDM Rubber Roofing has a unique aesthetic

  • UVW: 7,513lbs
  • GVWR: 9,063lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 835lbs
  • CCC: 1,550lbs
  • Length: 36’

Despite that aesthetic, The Puma 28BHSS comes with a 12-year manufacturing warranty , so it’s hard to argue with that. Puma placed a premium on interior height, and unless you play in the NBA, you’ll never feel like you’re about to bounce your head off the top of a door frame.

The Puma 28BHSS presents a unique idea for the bunk house, with wrap-around bunks floating over a sofa bed. Across from the bunks and sofa is a small corner entertainment center crowned with an HD TV.

As a family, your kids might prefer to spend their entertainment evenings in the bunkhouse rather than the living room. It’s that comfortable. The U-Dinette and sofa are a part of the slide-out, but despite the depth, they’re well situated across from the entertainment center.

The kitchen area is fully loaded, including a walk-in pantry. Everything you need for outdoor cooking and grilling is located in the kitchen. The advantage and value packages add many features already, but the optional limited edition and electric power package features can bring this travel trailer to new heights.

5. Keystone Passport 2401BH

Keystone Passport 2401BH Exterior

✅ Two bathrooms, with one located next to the double bunks

⛔ The microwave is super tiny

  • UVW: 5,670lbs
  • GVWR: 7,600lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 685lbs
  • CCC: 1,930lbs
  • Length: 29’ 3”

The Keystone Passport 2401BH travel trailer bunkhouse was designed with storage in mind. You’ll love this travel trailer bunkhouse if you like to pack heavily. The Passport 2401BH is a part of Keystone’s GT series and is new for 2023.

The bunkhouse in the rear is right next to a rear-corner bathroom, with the other bathroom adjacent to the queen bed. Both bunks are doubles, with a ladder and a bed-length window next to each.

The bottom bunk folds up for more storage options, including pass-through storage. The exterior includes an outdoor kitchen and an extra-large awning to cover all outdoor cooking needs.

The U-dinette converts into a bed, and there is more than enough room to sleep 8. Depending on your floor plan, there is also an optional theater dinette, one of the nicest add-ons if you don’t mind the price jump.

6. Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH

Travel Trailers with a Bunkhouse Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH Exterior

✅ Small enough for SUV and ½ ton pickup towing

⛔ You may want to replace the privacy curtain for the master bed with something thicker

  • UVW: 4,036lbs
  • GVWR: 5,500lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 448lbs
  • CCC: 1,464 lbs
  • Length: 21’ 11”

Some people may be disappointed at the elevated MSRP on a mini-travel trailer BH, and that’s a shame because this one happens to be a very nice bunkhouse option that sleeps 5. Within the 22’ length, Winnebago packed two bunks, a full-size main, and a convertible dinette.

Not bad for one of the smallest trailers on the list. It’s also a well-equipped, smaller travel trailer with bunk beds. The Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH offers a fully equipped kitchen with plenty of storage capacity.

The three-burner stove is standard in this bunkhouse travel trailer and includes a large sink with a high-rise faucet to boot. The dining area is decent, with booth seating that converts into a sleeper. The bathroom is located next to the bunks and is surprisingly sizeable.

It’s not a full-size bathroom, but it’s definitely more than you would expect for a travel trailer this size. The exterior features are standard but premium, including the LED awning, pass-through storage options, and some basic boondocking features.

7. Crossroads Zinger ZR340BH

Travel Trailer with a Bunkhouse Crossroads Zinger ZR340BH Exterior

✅ Comes with a very premium design aesthetic and feel

⛔ Control center can be finicky in some models

  • UVW: 9,220lbs
  • GVWR: 11,450lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 1,252lbs
  • CCC: 2,230lbs
  • Length: 38’

The word “zinger” conjures images of something small and streamlined, but the Crossroads Zinger ZR340BH is anything but that idea. This monster is going for the royalty look and, for the most part, pulls it off nicely.

The aesthetic is spot on, and when you throw in the roaring fireplace, king-size bed, and wardrobe/entertainment center, this becomes one of the most comfortable BH travel trailers on the market. It is also easy to get into the storage bays with the Keyed-A-Like Locking system.

It’s a spacious travel trailer that places a premium on privacy, with the bunk area and the king bedroom completely privatized, assuming you like to close doors. There are storage options aplenty, with a nice entertainment center that melds seamlessly with the L-counter in the kitchen.

There’s a lone bathroom, but it retains the overall aesthetic, with enough room to move around. The exterior contains all of the storage and entertainment features you would expect, including a large awning and an outside kitchen built into the side.

8. Coachmen Northern Spirit 2963BH

Coachmen Northern Spirit 2963BH Exterior

✅ Very kid and pet-focused

⛔ The tool center is located next to the door, which may get in the way

  • UVW: 6,408lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 760lbs
  • CCC: 1,192lbs
  • Length: 34’

Coachmen’s Northern Spirit Ultra-Lite Series is relatively new to the world of RVs, but if they keep pushing products like the Northern Spirit 2963BH , they’ll do just fine. For 34’, it’s easy to see why.

This is a popular option for large families, especially with younger kids involved. Both double bunks (the lower one flips up) come with kid’s convenience centers and a bathroom directly adjacent to the bunks.

The bathroom is one of the largest on the list and includes a full tub and a hamper. Plus, it’s accessible with an entranceway from the outside. The queen bed is also a flip-up, flanked by two small wardrobes and plenty of storage beneath the bed.

The U-Dinette is also a convertible bed and includes a pet center. The entertainment center is also a nice touch, butting up against a large L-counter with plenty of surface space. The outside includes storage options and the requisite RV outdoor kitchen.

9. Cruiser Embrace EL280

Cruiser Embrace EL280 Exterior

✅ Spacious and window-friendly for an airy feel

⛔ Entertainment Center TV is angled poorly to the sofa

  • UVW: 6,360lbs
  • GVWR: 9,620lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 820lbs
  • CCC: 3,228lbs
  • Length: 33’ 4”

The Cruiser Embrace EL280 placed a premium on the word “private” with the front bedroom and the three-bed bunkhouse. Each space has doors to close them off from the rest of the trailer. The bunkhouse includes a foldable upper bunk and a lower lounge area.

It’s also conveniently located next to the bathroom, which is large enough to include a bathtub. The unique shape of the sink countertop provides some additional counter space and is located across from a booth-style dining area.

The sofa is highly comfortable and standard size, but the HD TV does have a semi-awkward angle to the couch. The primary bed is king-size, leaving plenty of “walk-around” room on both sides.

10. Lance 2185

 Lance 2185 Exterior

✅ With a focus on “flexible” space, sleeping and space are entirely adjustable

⛔ Flip-top table can get in the way of the front entryway

  • UVW: 5,345lbs
  • GVWR: 7,900lbs
  • Tongue/Hitch Weight: 915lbs
  • CCC: 2,555lbs
  • Length: 26’ 1”

The bunkhouse in the Lance 2185 features a three-level bunk, with the bottom bed resting on the floor, which is where the flexibility resides. Since the bed folds up, it presents several storage options or other lounging possibilities.

The front bedroom includes a bed that flips down into a couch, with a forward windshield that gives the room an incredible vibe. Two mini-wardrobes flanks the bed, but the room’s overall aesthetic remains spacey and modern.

The kitchen is standard and includes all amenities, including the flip-top counter piece for additional real estate when you’re working in the kitchen. The outside space has hookups for three propane tanks and an optional solar array.

Two lithium-ion batteries, three propane tanks, and the addition of solar panels open up the boondocking options if that’s your thing.

Do You Need a Big Truck to Tow a Bunkhouse?

You don’t need a big truck to tow a bunkhouse travel trailer. Some compact trucks are more than capable of hauling weights above 7,000 lbs. Most bunkhouses are designed for full-size truck hauling, but there are exceptions, like the Winnebago Minnie.

Are Bunkhouses Good for Full-Time Living?

Are Bunkhouses Good for Full-Time Living

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse are good for full-timing. Some of these travel trailers are monstrous in size, and their amenities are perfect. On the other hand, if you have a family of 8 to 10 and own a Winnebago Minnie 2100BH, well, you have fun with that.

How Much Does a Travel Trailer with a Bunkhouse Cost?

The price disparity can be pretty wide. For instance, the MSRP on the Keystone Hideout 21BHWE is $22k, while the MSRP on the Grand Design Imagine 3210BH is $67k. The numbers are all over the place, but you shouldn’t expect to exceed $80k in most cases.

How Long are Travel Trailers with Bunkhouses?

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse are long as 40′ and as short as 20′. Manufacturers create floorplans that include bunkhouses without sacrificing standard spaces in a travel trailer.

8 Things to Look for in a Travel Trailer with a Bunkhouse

Things to Look for in a Travel Trailer with a Bunkhouse

The first and most obvious thing to look for is a bunkhouse. There are sinister things afoot if it’s a travel trailer with a bunkhouse and lacks a bunkhouse.

1. Number of Beds

Aside from the necessary, dedicated bunkbeds, the number of beds is just as important. If you have a large family, four bunks, a convertible dinette, and the main bedroom provide a good deal of sleeping room.

Length is critical, depending on what (if any) sacrifices were made regarding living space. While a 35’ travel trailer bunkhouse is bound to have plenty of space, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a 29’ bunkhouse is a ripoff.

3. Family-Friendly Layout

Family-friendly travel trailer bunkhouse layouts focus on families. A bunkhouse is great, especially for sleeping arrangements, but the rest of the travel trailer should also be family-friendly.

4. Extra Amenities

The Coachmen Northern Spirit 2963BH is an example of extra amenities, including the kid’s convenience centers in each bunk and the pet center in the kitchen/living space. Extra amenities are always a plus, if not a requirement in many cases.

5. Number and Style of Bathrooms

Things to Look for in a Travel Trailer with a Bunkhouse Number an Style of Bathrooms

For larger families, bathrooms jump to a higher tier of importance. One full bathroom is great until you have 8 people running around and three need to use it. Simplicity is fine for small families, but the larger the family, the more a bunkhouse travel trailer with a bath and a half becomes necessary.

6. Cargo Space and Capacity

Most of the travel trailer bunkhouses on this list are great in terms of storage. For those that may seem lacking, keep your eyes peeled for flexibility in different rooms, such as fold-up bunks and pass-through storage options.

All towable travel trailers can add more storage with some creative DIY products and devices. Learn simple tricks to increase your storage capacity in our RV storage hacks article on our sister-site Motorhome FAQs.

7. Maintenance

Nobody wants a travel trailer bunkhouse that requires a high level of maintenance. It’s more about ease of maintenance. How accessible is everything? Can you get to the back of the water heater? How much access do you have to the wiring?

When shopping for your perfect-size RV , also approach it from a repair and maintenance point of view.

Fortunately, there is a wide spectrum in the MSRPs for travel trailer bunkhouse prices. You can push it as low as $20k without sacrificing too much. Even if you decide to go with a used travel trailer bunkhouse, manufacturer warranties are often multi-year.

What Do You Look for in a Travel Trailer Bunkhouse?

Look for the best accommodation for your family and their needs, wants, and preferences. The best thing about travel trailer bunkhouses is the focused design for larger families, with applicable features and amenities.

Since bunkhouse travel trailers are designed for several individuals, bathrooms, storage space, privacy, beds, and lounging areas are critical to match your family size.

Best Travel Trailers With Kitchen Island And Outdoor Kitchen

Travel Trailers With Kitchen Island And Outdoor Kitchen

Published Date: August 15, 2020

Last Updated on February 6, 2023 by Camper Front

While camping, preparing complex or aromatic family meals in an uncomfortably small or restricted kitchen is not an easy task.

It could be frustrating because cooking such meals requires a sufficient amount of space, modern amenities, and lots of storage, so you don’t have a hard time keeping everything in order while comfortably preparing that delicious recipe.

For this reason, I’m going to show you the best travel trailers with kitchen island and outdoor kitchen that offer the most spectacular open kitchen concept that suits your cooking needs.

Table of Contents

What is a Travel Trailer?

A travel trailer is simply an RV that is usually attached to a tow vehicle , such as an SUV or a truck, using a trailer hitch. Camper lovers can easily disconnect this kind of unit from the vehicle once they get to their camping destination.

What Comes With an Outdoor Kitchen?

It all depends on your needs. Typically, travel trailer outdoor kitchens can feature different appliances and amenities, such as:

  • Food storage like an outdoor mini fridge
  • Cooking gadgets (can be fitted with propane hook-ups for your camp stove, a stove, or grill)
  • Prep and dining space (some also come with an outdoor shower and/or a sink)

Most outdoor kitchens are also complemented by the existing outdoor living spaces of the camping trailer.

Finally, the majority of the new travel trailers out there feature a power awning , and lots of them have even more features, such as outdoor speakers, LED lighting, entertainment centers, etc.

The best camping trailers are often designed for style and comfort, inside and out. The travel trailer floor plans listed below have all the fittings you’ll ever need to prepare and enjoy delicious meals from outside your trailer.

So, whenever you’re considering the best outdoor kitchen features and amenities for a travel trailer with kitchen island, choose from any of them.

That said, here are the best travel trailers with kitchen island and outdoor kitchen:

15 Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers (2020 & 2022 Trailers)

travel trailer

One of my favorite memories growing up as a young kid was hitting the road with my family on the weekends and camping in the beautiful green back forest of Oregon. That isn’t to say that it was all sunshine and bluebirds. There were some nights that were rather uncomfortable, and I longed for the comfort of my own bed. It would have been perfect if at the time we had a trailer with a nice set of bunk beds. Below in this post are the best travel trailers with bunk beds that I wish I had growing up. Many of the trailers selected are new for 2018.

Trailer Overview

Coleman has been around for awhile now. They have had since the year 1900 to work out the logistics of their operations, and to understand the best way to fulfill their obligations to their customers. They have done pretty well. Overall, they have a good reputation for producing what are considered quality products that suit the entry or luxury class to which that particular RV is ascribed. As for the Lantern series, Dutchmen has remained consistent in their approach. Perusing the internet forums, you will find a relatively satisfied customer base. There is a lighter version of this series called LT Lantern. Click here , if your tow vehicle requires something a bit lighter.

They have also made the claim that they have a “multitude” of standard features, and I have found that to be true as well (As you can see from the snippet above).

As with almost every RV out there, the craftsmanship is more than questionable. Reports of screws falling out and glued areas needing re-gluing are fairly common. However, I’m not coming across reports of anything serious falling apart. I’m finding a lot of people happy with this line of campers.

3. Keystone Hideout Travel Trailer

Keystone Hideout

  • Diamond Plate
  • Black Tank Flush
  • Full Walk on Roof
  • 96” Exterior Width
  • Lighted Adjustable Power Awning
  • 6 Cubit Feet Refrigerator (Residential for 38BHDS, 38FDDS, 38FKDS, 38FQDS)
  • Built-In 30,000 BTU Furnace
  • 81” Interior Height
  • 4 ½’ Crowned Roof
  • Sleeps 6-10
  • Dry weight 5785-8015

The more popular the brand, the more prolific the complaints. Browsing through the complaint sites, you will find many unhappy customers. However, according to polls and forums, Keystone is a decent manufacturer. According to one poll, 90% of the Keystone customer base would purchase a Keystone again which is a stunningly good percentage.

4. Dutchmen Aspen Trail Travel Trailer

4. Dutchmen Aspen Trail travel trailer

  • Hardwood Cabinet Doors
  • 6 Cubic Feet Gas/Electric Refrigerator
  • 6 Gallon Gas/Electric Water Heater with DSI
  • 82” Interior Height, 6 Feet Ceiling in Slide Room
  • 13,500 BTU Ducted Air
  • High Output Furnace
  • Heated and Enclosed Underbelly
  • Seamless One Piece Roof / Walk-On Roof
  • Diamond Plate Rock Guard
  • Front and Rear Stabilizing Jacks
  • Sleeps 8-11
  • Dry weight 4,811 – 8609

This is a budget class of travel trailers, but it doesn’t act like it. When the compliments are much easier to find than the complains; you’ve probably got something good happening. At least, that’s the case in the RV world. floor plans are well-designed, I’m finding pretty consistent customer service, and good warranty response.

5. Crossroads Zinger Travel Trailer

5. Crossroads Zinger travel trailer

  • Black Tank Flush System
  • 54 Gallon Fresh Water Tank
  • Enclosed and Heated Underbelly with Forced Heat
  • Outside Shower with Hot and Cold Water
  • Nitrogen-filled Tires
  • 6 Cubic Feet Gas/Electric DSI Refrigerator
  • Stainless Steel Oven and Microwave
  • Wall Mounted Systems Monitor Panel
  • Dry weight 5828 – 8770

Crossroads is one of the many subsidiaries of the Thor company collective. Thor started in 1980, and it has grown dramatically. The range of the RV quality varies, but the Crossroads Zinger has some pretty good feedback.

As far as budget class travel trailers go, relatively speaking, these are solidly built with good quality control. Most warranty problems seem to come to reasonable resolutions. They have some lightweight models (Less than 5,000 Pounds), so the weaker tow vehicles have some options.

6. Jayco Jay Fight SLX

Jayco Jay Fight SLX

  • 2-Year Limited Warranty
  • 6-Gallon Gas Water Heater (7-Feet-Wide floor plans)
  • 6-Gallon DSI Water Heater (8-Feet-Wide floor plans)
  • Stabilizer Jacks with Sand Pads(2 in 7-Feet-Wide; 4 in 8-Feet-Wide)
  • Front Diamond Plate
  • Bathroom Skylight
  • Sleeps 3-13
  • Dry weight 2,555 – 7,445

Jayco trailers has been around for half a century, and like Thor, has built an empire. The SLX’s are one of many model lines, and one of its standout features is its lightweight floor plans. If you are interested in the lighter weight plans, you should be aware of the floors. Some floor plans have composite flooring and some have plywood. It has been noted that the Jayco’s composite flooring can develop soft spots, and that the plywood floors don’t have that issue.

Aside from the composite flooring, it has a good reputation. There are some expected durability issues and those, of course, become bigger issues as “lightweight” becomes the highlight feature.

7. Keystone LAREDO

Keystone LAREDO

  • Exterior Marine Grade Speakers
  • Fully Enclosed Underbelly
  • Exterior Shower with Hot & Cold Water

  • Dry weight 6235 – 12935

These travel trailers have a reputation for being a good value for their price-point. Minor repairs throughout are expected, as with everything. The quality is good, so it is dependable enough.

  • Water-Pur Filtration System
  • 110 DSI Gas/Electric Six Gallon “Quick Recovery” Water Heater By-Pass Kit
  • Dry weight 3,339 – 5,277

As you can tell by both the name and the weight range, these are the trailers of choice if you don’t have a strong tow vehicle. Their compact floor plans are great for vacationing on a budget.

2016 Dealer Satisfaction Index Quality Circle Award Winner

Inconsistent quality is a pretty big problem. Some reviews are shining and others are not. Looking through reviews and forums, customer service does not appear to be great. Multiple owners have reported having difficulty getting through to the company and some say that the calls are never returned.

10. The Voltage

The Voltage

  • In-Command Operating System ( Control RV Functions From Phone )
  • Central Vacuum
  • Rear Electric Jacks
  • Furion Stereo System with Upgraded Powered Subwoofer
  • Full Sized 21” Oven
  • Atwood 10 Gallon Gas Electric Water Heater w/DSI and 19.7 Gallon/Hours Recovery
  • 8 Cubic Feet Refrigerator
  • Queen Bed (Depends on the Model)
  • King Bed (Depends on the Model)
  • Satellite Prep for All Four TV Locations
  • Cherry Hardwood Cabinet Doors
  • Voltage Happi-Jac Electric Bed & Roll Over Sofa System w/Table
  • Prepped for Solar Power
  • Sleeps 7 – 13
  • Dry weight 13,113 – 15,983

There are two versions the Voltage Line. There is the Voltage line and then there is the Voltage Epic line. Both of them offer the bunk bed feature, but we are just going to focus on the Basic Voltage line for today.

The more I look into Dutchmen, the more I like them. Out of the many manufacturers that I have researched (50+), they are one of the most consistently praised by their patrons. I’m not getting paid to say that; It is just what I have noticed.

11. Keystone RV Outback Ultra Lite

Keystone RV Outback Ultra Lite

  • Large Panoramic Windows
  • 36” Flush Floor Slides
  • Bath Skylight
  • His and Her Lighting
  • Tub Surround
  • Polypropylene Heated Enclosed Underbelly
  • Outside Camp Kitchen (Most Models)
  • Front Diamond Plate Rock Guard
  • Electric Awning with LED Strip Lights
  • Sleeps 4 – 8
  • Dry weight 4,921 – 6,676

Considered to be medium-level quality trailer with a relatively pleased customer base. It is lightweight, so there will be a drop in overall durability. The most prolific issues seem to be with the roof, so do a thorough inspection of the ceiling before purchasing if this line of trailers interest you.

12. Freedom Express Ultra Lite

Freedom Express Ultra Lite

Defining Features (The features listed the Freedom Value Package)

  • 2 External Speakers, 4 rnal Speakers
  • Ducted Furnace (Not in Trailers Smaller Than 25’)
  • Ducted Ceiling, Air Conditioning (Not in Trailers Smaller Than 25’)
  • Satellite Ready
  • Spare Tire Kit
  • Heated Enclosed Underbelly (Not in the Expandable’s)
  • Sleeps 8 – 10
  • Dry weight 5,263 – 7,734

The 320BHDS has been noted to have a “design flaw” that ruins the floors with water when driving through hard rain. It appears to be an issue with that specific model, so be aware of that. The year was unspecified.

Coachmen was purchased by Forest River in 2008, and some have expressed concern about a potential drop in dependability. However, the quality hasn’t appeared to be negatively affected, and overall, they seem to be maintaining a level of quality that is competitively consistent.

13. Shasta Travel Trailer

Shasta Trailer

  • 18,000 BTU Furnace
  • Marine Grade External Speakers
  • 13,500 BTU AC
  • 6 Cubic Foot Refrigerator (3’ for 18’ models)
  • 3-Burner Cooking Stove
  • 1-Year Coachnet Roadside Assistance Program
  • 1-Year Forest River Hitch-to-Bumper Warranty
  • Sleeps up-to 10
  • Dry weight 3,182 – 5,893

Good construction, good interior storage, and wide-bodied; those are the kinds of comments that I have been coming across. I’m not finding a lot of bad reviews with this one. This line of trailers has an uncommonly positive level of feedback

14. Forest River Salem

Salem Trailer

  • 12-Year Roof Warranty
  • Triple Seal Slide Out System
  • Dometic Double Door Refrigerator (2 Year Warranty)
  • 3 Burner Range (2 Year Warranty)
  • 13,500 BTU Roof Air Conditioner w/ Quick Cool
  • 25BTU Suburban Forced Air DSI Furnace w/ Digital Thermostat (2 Year Warranty)
  • Solid Bedroom PrivacyDoors (Most Models)
  • Dry weight 6,223 – 9,139

Forest River is a budget class RV, so I’m not going to lie and say that everything is fantastic. The sealant will need to be replaced, screws are going to pop out, and parts will eventually fall into disrepair. You should do your research, so that you know what you should expect from an RV within this price range. After accepting that these lower-priced RVs are going to be problematic, you will know whether or not you should pay for something a bit higher up on the RV food chain.

So, why am I recommending it? Honestly, it isn’t a horrible starting point. If you aren’t ready to buy a mid-to-high range RV, then this is a good early step. It will serve you provided that you are also ready to serve it with a little elbow grease and a little more know-how.

15. Shadow Cruiser

Shadow Cruiser

  • 6’9” Vaulted Ceiling
  • Dual Ducted 13.5 BTU A/C
  • High Gloss Fiberglass Exterior
  • Hardwood Framed Cabinet Doors
  • Power Awning with LED Strip
  • 6 Gallon DSI Gas/Electric Water Heater
  • Dry weight 4,340 – 7,260

Built on a budget; the Shadow Cruiser isn’t a top of the line class. It is, however, a way for families to get into the camper life without breaking the bank. These are some of the best selling RVs on the market because they make the first steps of this RV adventure a little bit easier. If you are prepared to take on the responsibilities of RV ownership…and that means making the occasional repair that budget RVs inherently present, then this might be an RV line worth considering.

Easy Alternative Bunk Bed Option

Buying a new travel trailer is a big purchase and I along with others recommend looking around for a year before your purchase since it gives you time to see all the models on the market as well as for the new models to gather up some reviews. An easy option in the meantime is to simply pack a set of bunk beds in your current trailer. This bunk bed from Kid-O-Bunk on Amazon is a nice alternative that may work nicely for you until you are ready to make the big purchase.

Conclusion on RVs with Bunk Beds

There are a lot of trailers to choose from when deciding on the best bunkhouse trailer for your family and there are still more to choose from that we did not include on our list. I recommend this list as merely a starting point. Not every trailer that is good for one family is good for another. Features vary widely and it’s important you take your time to choose the right one for your family. Explore the options available and see what works for you.

Winnebago Micro Minnie 1800BH

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Micro Minnie 1700BH

The Micro Minnie 1800BH is the smallest bunkhouse travel trailer on our list. At just under 22 feet long and 7 feet wide, this trailer is tiny, but has everything you need for a family camping trip. The single bunk beds are located on the driver side rear corner of the RV.

The dinette can also be converted into another bed. A double bed is located in the front of the RV trailer. While many small travel trailer bunkhouses have a flip-up bed, this bed is permanent, so it does not require any effort to set-up.

This mini trailer is also a fully self-contained vehicle. It has a 3-piece bathroom with a porcelain toilet beside the bunks. The galley kitchen has a fridge, a 3-burner cooktop and a convection microwave.

The Springdale 2010BH has a very similar layout to the Heartland Pioneer with double bunks in the rear corner of the RV. While most RV interiors have white or wood cabinets, the Springdale’s sleek interior features black cabinets with gold hardware.

Additional sleeping spaces include a convertible dinette booth and a fixed queen bed at the front of the trailer. At 8 feet wide, the trailer also has room for a closet, nightstand and outlets beside the bed.

In addition to the bunks, there is a jackknife sofa and queen Murphy bed. The trailer has a full bathroom and a kitchen with a 2-burner cooktop and a 12 volt refrigerator. This RV is also ready for off-grid camping with solar panels and an inverter.

Coachman Apex Ultra-Lite 245BHS

The Coachman Apex Ultra-Lite 245BHS is a great midsize bunkhouse travel trailer. At 7.5 feet wide and just 6,500 pounds, this travel trailer is easy to tow, but has plenty of space.

The double bunks are located in the rear corner of the trailer. Unlike smaller bunkhouses, the Apex has a private main bedroom, separated from the living area by an entertainment center and two curtains.

A U-shaped dinette provides plenty of seating space, and the kitchen comes with a range with a 3-burner cooktop and an oven. The full bathroom has a shower/tub combo to make bathing kids and dogs easier.

Grand Design Imagine 2800BH

The main bedroom in the front of the trailer has a queen bed and a sliding door for complete privacy. There is plenty of seating in the spacious living area, which includes a U-shaped dinette and a tri-fold sofa.

The kitchen incudes a range, a microwave, a refrigerator and tons of storage space. Additional storage can be found under the bed. The oversized under bed storage includes a sliding storage tray to provide easy access to regularly used items.

Keystone Cougar Half-Ton 30BHS

Length: 34 feet, 5 inches

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Cougar 30BHS

We toured hundreds of RVs at this year’s Florida RV SuperShow , and the Keystone Cougar Half-Ton 30BHS was by far my favorite bunkhouse floorplan. The unique layout includes rear bunks that extend the width of the RV.

The position of the bunks creates a separate area for kids and makes the beds more accessible. In the front of the RV is a large, private bedroom with a king bed. The bathroom sits between the living area and the bedroom.

The main living area includes an L-shaped dinette, a tri-fold sofa and a fireplace. The kitchen has a full range, a microwave, a double sink, a 12 volt fridge and plenty of counterspace. Arched rafters create a spacious interior with 7 foot ceilings.

Heartland Trail Runner 31DB

Length: 36 feet, 11 inches

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Trail Runner 31DB

The second Heartland RV on our list of the best bunkhouse travel trailers is the Trail Runner 31DB. This big rig has much more space and many more exciting features than the tiny Pioneer.

The rear of the RV houses an entire kids’ suite. Inside the suite is a private bedroom with a single over double bunk bed, a shirt closet and a half bathroom. In the front of the trailer is a main bedroom with a queen bed and a full bathroom.

In the main living area, there is a dinette booth and a large sofa. The corner kitchen features bright, white cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Perhaps the most unique feature of this RV is the huge pantry, located behind the TV next to the entry door.

Venture SportTrek ST333VIK

Length: 37 feet, 8 inches

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Venture SportTrek ST333VIK

Another amazing (and enormous) rear bunkhouse travel trailer is the Venture SportTrek ST333VIK. The bunkroom includes a normal height single bed, and a raised top bunk which sits over a storage cabinet.

The lower bed is perfect both for smaller children who are at risk of falling from higher bunks and teenagers who need more headroom. The huge bunkroom is also great for teenagers because it also has a sofa (with another flip-up bunk above it), a table and a flip-up desk.

Outside the bunkroom is a full (second) bathroom. The other bathroom is located in the front of the trailer next to the main bedroom with a queen bed.

While the bunkroom is the star of this RV, the main living area does not disappoint either. With the optional king dinette, the combination sofa/dining area can comfortably seat 5 to 6 people. The large kitchen has an island and a hutch that makes a perfect coffee station.

Keystone Hideout 38FKTS

Length: 39 feet, 11 inches

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Hideout 38FKTS

Mid-bunk floorplans are super common in fifth wheel RVs, but rare in travel trailers. The Hideout 28FKTS is the best mid-bunk travel trailer available.

The bunkroom includes a upper bunk with a cube bunk below. The cubes can be moved around and used as chairs during the day. A wardrobe, which doubles as a desk completes the room.

The main bedroom has a queen bed and is located in the rear of the trailer. The full bath sits between the two bedrooms. In the main living area, there is a dinette booth, a recliner and a trifold sofa. The front kitchen has white cabinets and tons of storage space.

Top 13 Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Hey! This site is reader-supported and we earn commissions if you purchase products from retailers after clicking on a link from our site.

If you’re looking for an RV with room for the entire family, campers with bunk rooms are worth a look. The best bunkhouse travel trailers are space for four or six people to live full time while adventuring on the road. This generally means saying no to the pull-out sofa or the convertible dinette; these trailers have dedicated space for the kids to sleep and enough room that everyone has a little slice of privacy.

Simply put, a bunkhouse travel trailer has extra bunks. It’s an important distinction, especially when looking at smaller, lightweight trailers. Many of these smaller towable RV models are made to be comfortable for a couple but not so much for large families. A bunkhouse travel trailer fixes this by adding a separate space with dedicated beds for the little ones.

Finding the best bunk room travel trailer for your family starts with striking a balance between the overall size of the trailer you can deal with and the amenities you need. Many of us would like to tow a fifth-wheel trailer or get a Class A, but it’s not feasible a lot of the time. A bunkhouse travel trailer layout is a good place to start since it maximizes floor space and provides a little more privacy.

Smaller, Lighter, Cheaper than Other Options

First off, most bunkhouse travel trailer layouts tend to be travel trailers. By adding more bunks and more rooms, a travel trailer can fit the bill for some campers. They provide enough amenities to keep a family of four (or maybe six) comfortable on long trips. But at the same time, they’re easier to tow, small, and more affordable than a comparable fifth wheel or Class A coach.

Affordability gets better and better the smaller the trailer. If you can tow your travel trailer with the full-size SUV that you already own, you’ll save money in the long run. Remember, you must tow fifth wheels with customized pickups, and Class A’s are much more expensive altogether. So a bunkhouse travel trailer might allow you to skip all of these extra costs if you can tow it with the vehicle you already own.

Dedicated Bunks

Many trailer makers squeeze in an impressive number of bunks, but they have often shared surfaces. So, for example, a dinette might convert into a double, or a jack-knife sofa might pull out and make a large bunk.

In any case, all of these solutions are a pain. It means you’ve got to give up your sitting and dining area to get ready for bed. Furthermore, a daily set-up and break-down phase will become a time-consuming chore. These shared-use spaces are great solutions if you have occasional overnight guests, like an annual trip with the grandkids. But if you are looking for a daily solution, everyone getting their own bed is the key to family happiness.

More Privacy

Mid and larger-sized bunkhouse travel trailers will have the ability to close a door and shut off the bunkhouse travel trailer from the rest of the camper. For parents with small children, this gives the kids their own quiet space to rest, all while freeing up the rest of the camper and leaving the dinette and kitchen intact.

So how does it work in your family? Do the kids go to bed early, or do you rise and shine with the sun while the kids sleep in? These things are much easier if you’ve got a little more privacy.

In smaller RVs, bunks might not have their own doors or be in enclosed rooms. But just having a dedicated place where you can put your stuff makes a world of difference in terms of organization and planning.

Flexibility

Finally, the bunkhouse travel trailer layout provides many options for even those who aren’t traveling with families. It might be handy if you travel with friends or guests one day. For day-to-day living, the bunk space is a welcome addition for storage. It’s invaluable to have the option to put random stuff in a place that is out of the way and not taking up other living spaces.

Travel Trailer and Towing Woes

If you’re comparing a towable to a Class A coach or even to a larger fifth wheel, keep in mind that towing a large travel trailer is still no trivial task. While these trailers are lighter and can be towed by some SUVs, they are by no means ultralights. If your vehicle’s towing capacity isn’t at least 5,000 pounds, you’re probably out of luck unless you’re looking for the smallest bunkhouse travel trailer out there.

And even though they can be pretty luxurious, you won’t find as many amenities in these campers as you would in fifth wheels or coaches. These are budget-conscious starter RVs, and you aren’t likely to find them decked out with washers and dryers, fireplaces, or even very large tanks.

Extra Size, Complexity, and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

On the flip side, these trailers aren’t small and simple, either. While some bunkhouse travel trailers are pretty small and light, there is no getting around the fact that it is an upgrade from the basic camper design.

If your second and third bunks are shared spaces, like sofas or dinettes, the total camper length can be much smaller. Unfortunately, you won’t find bunkhouse travel trailer layouts available in the smallest travel trailers, and when you do find one, it comes at the cost of removing something else entirely.

True Overall Capacity

The next problem with these designs is that they can squeeze many people into a very small camper. The more people you carry, the more space you need for tankage, groceries, clothing, and supplies. So while you might be able to find campers that measure less than 20 feet with multiple bunks, will they provide enough space for everyone to camp comfortably?

It’s much easier for families with small kids to use ultralight bunkhouse travel trailers. Older kids and teens are more likely to want their own space and greater privacy, requiring more space.

Another factor that makes a big difference is the lengths of trips involved. For example, does your group head out for a single overnight? Or are you hoping to spend weeks at a time on the road?

None of these things is a disadvantage, per se. But they do require looking at the camper as a whole package and objectively thinking about how it will suit your mission.

What Is the Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailer?

The good news is that quite a few manufacturers are offering a bunkhouse travel trailer model. These floorplans are popular–they are an inexpensive way to get the whole family on board. That makes them perfect starters and entry-level RVs.

It’s difficult to say which is the best because every camper’s needs are slightly different. Some are looking for an ultralight and minimalist camping experience. Others might be looking for some luxuries and a bigger rig.

Once you know what a bunkhouse travel trailer is, you’ll probably pin down exactly why you do or don’t want one quickly. And in doing that, you’ll likely know exactly what you need. How many bunks, what sort of space, and what does your budget look like for cost and overall size? Layouts vary considerably between model lines, even from the same RV manufacturer. The only way to find one that suits you is to go out and walk through some in the real world!

Number of Beds

Probably the first criterion will be figuring out exactly how many bunks you need. The fewer bunks you can get away with, the more spacious the camper will feel. After that, just make sure all of your family members, or whoever is traveling with you regularly, have their own private space.

Of course, not all bunks are created equally. Many campers have smaller single bunks that are built for kids. Older children and teens might feel quite cramped and uncomfortable, so you’ll want to be sure to spend some time in each layout and see how your family fits, literally!

Most trailers have just one bathroom to optimize space. Some models have stand-up showers only, but some have tub/shower combinations. If you are traveling with younger kids, you might prefer a bathroom with a tub for easy bathtime.

Bathroom location can be important to families. Some models have a bathroom close to the master suite, which is great for the parents but might be inconvenient for the kids. Others place the bathroom next to the bunk room, which is easier for the kids but might be harder for the parents. A centralized bathroom works well for all.

Most bunkhouse travel trailer kitchens feature a fridge, microwave, storage, prep space, and sink. However, you might prefer a kitchen with additional prep space and a large pantry if you are traveling long-term. In addition, some larger rigs have a kitchen island which gives more counter space.

  • Outdoor Kitchen

Most modern models feature outdoor kitchens. This is a great way to enjoy outdoor time as a family and keep the heat and mess of meal prep outside the RV. In addition, outdoor kitchens usually have an extra fridge, which is great for extending the time between grocery runs. Outdoor kitchens also have a sink and griddle or stovetop.

Dinette Seating

Small trailers usually have small dinettes, and this is one of the easiest ways you can gauge just how comfortable your family will be. Is there enough room for the family to eat around the table comfortably? While at the table, can the chef get to and from the kitchen easily?

These might sound like minor things, but you have to remember that it’s easy for RV makers to add more bunks. It’s much harder for them to create layouts that work for that many people. Can you realistically use the layout and be comfortable? That’s the question you need to continually ask yourself as you compare layouts.

Dinette seating usually converts into extra own sleeping space, adding to the number of guests you can host.

Number of Slide-Outs

Slide-outs are an easy way to get more real estate inside the RV. It’s especially useful with a dinette, but it’s also handy in some bunkhouse travel trailer layouts where the bunkroom slides out for more floor space.

Slides add cost and complexity to a rig, however. As with all decisions when planning such a big purchase, you’ll have to find the right balance. Make sure the expense of a slide-out is gaining you something. It should make a useable space that makes the camper feel more comfortable.

Bunkhouse Length

Most bunkhouse travel trailers are less than 40 feet long. The smaller and lighter the RV, the easier it is to tow. Shorter trailers are easier to store and find campground spaces for. Bunkhouse travel trailers on our list range from a tiny 13-foot trailers to a 39-foot trailers. The best shopping technique is to buy the smallest bunkhouse travel trailer that will meet your needs for the kind of traveling you enjoy.

National parks can easily accommodate RVs under 25 feet. An RV under 37 feet can access about 60% of parks, while only a small percentage of National Parks can accommodate trailers over 40 feet. If traveling to National Parks is on your bucket list, aim for a smaller rig.

Weight and Tow Capacity

If you already have a tow vehicle and don’t want to trade up, pick an RV that matches your current vehicle. Most RVs advertise their empty weight. This weight doesn’t include water or fuel in the tanks and personal gear. After you’ve loaded up the trailer, it will weigh more. Make sure you know how much weight your SUV can tow and calculate the actual weight of the trailer plus any liquids, RV accessories , and gear.

RVs come with several tanks. You’ll have fresh water tanks, propane tanks, grey water tanks, and black water tanks. The bigger your tanks, the longer you can go without topping off and dumping out. However, bigger tanks also take up more storage space and add to your total towing weight.

If you plan on boondocking for weeks, look for a trailer with large tanks. On the other hand, if you plan on simple weekends at an RV park, you can get away with smaller tanks.

Separate Bunk Rooms

The bigger the trailer, the more space, and privacy bunk rooms will have. While you can find some very small campers that squeeze many bunks into short tow packages, the amenities are generally limited.

What are the worst travel trailers?

The worst travel trailers are the ones that aren’t suited for your current lifestyle. For example, if you buy a trailer that is too big for the weekend getaways you have planned, it might seem overwhelming. But it might seem cramped if you have a trailer that’s just too small for a growing family.

What is the shortest travel trailer with a bunkhouse?

What are the Top 5 RV trailers?

There are countless RV manufacturers, and they all excel at different things. Unlike cars, which all more or less do the same thing, it isn’t easy to rank RVs in a meaningful way when they are designed so differently. One of the most meaningful ways to rank any consumer item is with customer satisfaction. Some RV makers renowned for their customer satisfaction are Oliver Trailers, Airstream Trailers, Grand Design RV, Winnebago, and Casita.

This Coachmen is similar to the Avenger in size and weight. It’s also a bunkhouse. However, Coachmen RVs are a little more recognizable, and the touches are different. This floorplan is great for big families and definitely worth the price.

The Island : The countertop is a nice beige, almost marble look, which is well accented with the dark brown upholstery of the dinette and light walnut wood that is throughout the trailer. There is a sink that can be covered when not in use so the island appears sleek and beautiful.

You can get this trailer in other colors of course, as well.

Kitchen : There is a nice refrigerator in the kitchen, 8 cubic feet. It is paneled with the walnut wood to carry on the design. There is a small oven, stove top, and lots of storage in the pantry for the food you need to pack for your trip.

Just like the other travel trailers we’ve talked about before, there is an outdoor kitchen that has a small fridge and sink.

Storage : There is a pretty nice amount of storage in this trailer. There are overhead storage areas above the sofa, in the bedrooms and pass-through storage at the front.

  • Private front bedroom
  • Satellite ready
  • Magnetic catches
  • Full Bathroom
  • Dinette can be taken outside
  • USB plug-ins for easy charging

Here is what the reviews say : 4-stars, storage, great for kids, and nice accents.

#4: 2019 Forest River RV Salem 27REI

Forest River is another really popular brand for travel trailers. They make a ton of different RVs and have become one of the largest manufacturers in the United States. This floorplan is great because it is spacious, has a great kitchen, and lots of luxurious amenities.

The Island : Has a double sink in the middle. This island is really nice because it is a decent size with plenty of counter space but does not cut into the walkway. Everything feels open and not cramped, even though the island is central in the trailer.

Kitchen : The kitchen has a small pantry, a microwave, fridge and stove top. The refrigerator is a double door.

Storage : There are two wardrobes and a shelf in the bedroom as well as lifted storage under the bed. You’ll also find lots of overhead storage in the living area. The two slides help create a more spacious area. The bathroom has a little bit of storage as well.

  • Option for Hide-a-bed or Jiffy Sofa
  • Entertainment center

Here is what the reviews say : This particular floorplan does not have many reviews yet, but other Forest River Salems have an average of 3.5 stars. Reviews preach of how spacious they are and comfortable to travel for an extended time in.

#5: 2019 Grand Design Reflection 297RSTS

Grand Design is a luxury RV brand, so you can expect high-end details throughout the trailer. This is why it’s a pricier travel trailer, especially when it sleeps 4 people. All the special little things you expect to find in a premium trailer, you’ll find here.

The Island : A wide sink is placed in the middle of the sandy, granite-looking countertops. The island itself has a slight curve to it and storage underneath. You can choose to cover up the sink on this island as well.

Kitchen : Refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, and small oven are all standard in this floorplan. The fridge is hardwood paneled which makes everything tie together really flawlessly.

There is an outdoor kitchen that has a stove top and a small fridge as well, perfect for cooking outdoors. You definitely have options here.

Storage : Overhead cabinets can be found by the sofa, in the bedroom. There are other drawers, closest that offers a bunch of space for all your gear.

There is also pass-thru storage in the front, so you can fit some good equipment in this trailer that wouldn’t fit normally.

  • Theater seating
  • Option for free standing dinette
  • Lots of windows
  • Outdoor speakers

Here is what the reviews say : Grand Design Reflection Trailers have an average of 3.8 stars. People like the storage and roominess that this floorplan allows.

#6: 2019 Keystone RV Premier Ultra Lite 30RIPR

This Keystone RV is a special one, because it is huge, but is lightweight. This makes it easier for your truck to tow it for long distances. The floorplan is nice and roomy and has some pretty cool features that make it an excellent travel trailer.

The Island : This island is bigger than some of the other ones that we have seen. It has lots of surface to prep food. The sink is on the island. You can choose to cover up the sink. The faucet is nice stainless steel, which makes it look a bit classier.

There are quite a few cabinets for storage in the island as well, as you get a lot of use out of this huge island.

Kitchen : Everything is placed a little differently in this floorplan. You’ll find the fridge across the way from the entry closet and the pantry, and not next to the stove like in the other trailers.

However, there are two separate pantries which allow for a lot of room to stock up for long trips.

There is an outdoor kitchen, too!

Storage : You’ll find lots of space for all your gear on this travel trailer. There is pass thru storage, wardrobes in the bedroom, closets and overhead storage wherever possible.

If you add all of the kitchen storage to this, you’ll have enough space for all that you need.

  • Vaulted ceilings
  • Private entrance to the bathroom from bedroom
  • Theater reclining seats
  • Electric awning with LED lights
  • Exterior speakers

Here is what the reviews say : The island is huge and lots of space to cook. Storage is a plus!

#7: 2019 Dutchmen RV Aspen Trail 3100BHS

This trailer is the biggest on the list and is also a bunkhouse. If you have a big family and like to go on trips frequently this is the travel trailer for you. It is a bit heavy but the price is unbeatable for the length.

The Island : There is a double sink on this big island, with one curved side. It’s marbled to match the other counters in the trailer.

Kitchen : You have an indoor and outdoor kitchen with this trailer. There is a 3 burner stovetop inside, along with a big fridge. Don’t worry about storage because there is overhead cabinets, a pantry, and storage on the island.

Outdoors you’ll find a small burner and minimal kitchen equipment, enough to cook a great meal while watching the sunset.

Storage : In the bunkroom, there is a dress and wardrobe. In the private bedroom, there is overhead cabinet space as well as wardrobes on either side of the bed. There is additional space over the sofa.

There is also pass through storage that is great for all your camping essentials that don’t really fit anywhere else inside.

  • Opposing slides for a larger living area
  • Dual entrance into bathroom
  • Entertainment center in living area
  • TV in bunkhouse
  • Awning (20ft)

Here is what the reviews say : Spacious but some of the finishes are not great or tacky.

#8: 2019 Jayco Eagle 280RSOK EAGLE HT

Jayco is a brand that I couldn’t help but include in this list. This travel trailer is great and feels luxurious. This trailer may be pricey and heavy, but there is a ton to love.

The Island: Lots of surface area to use up on this island. It has rounded sides and a double sink. It’s marbled and central to the living area.

Kitchen : This kitchen is amazing. The fridge is wood paneled and big. You’ll find lots of storage space for food in the pantry as well. There is cabinet space over the counters as well as in the island.

The kitchen, of course, has a microwave and a stove. If you want to cook outside, there is a small kitchen, with a mini-fridge and hybrid grill.

Storage : Lots of room for gear in the pass-thru storage. There are lots of drawers, wardrobes, and overhead cabinets in this trailer, so you’ll be able to bring with you what you’ll need.

  • Opposing slides for big living area
  • full bathroom
  • Washer/dryer prep
  • Free standing dinette
  • Tri-fold sofa
  • Option for fireplace
  • Frameless windows

Here is what the reviews say : Reliable and love all the room the slides create.
