Question and answer

Last year 2021 the speedometer worked great. This year 2022 the time shows, the temp shows, and speed shows 0, Why can't I get it to show miles per hour when I am riding? Also the mile MPH counter never changed from 0 and the mile counter stayed at 403. What is wrong? Me or the equipment? Or operator error? We went 6 miles today.

A battery in my bicycle computer has started to corrode. Is the device still safe to use?

The product can still be used safely after proper cleaning. Remove the battery with gloves and clean the battery compartment with a toothbrush and vinegar. After drying, new batteries can be inserted into the device.

Bicycle Computer Owner’s Manual

This manual explains the installation and use of several Trek bicycle computer models:

Please read this manual carefully and save it for future reference.

SAFETY AND GENERAL GUIDELINES

While riding your bicycle, do not stare at the computer for long periods of time (Figure 1). If you do not watch the road, you could hit an obstacle, which may cause you to lose control and fall.

Make sure the computer wire cannot contact the tire or wheel spokes. The wire could be damaged causing the computer to malfunction. Also, the wire could get caught, causing you to lose control and fall

INSTALLATION

• Electrical tape

• Slot-type screwdriver

• Phillips-type screwdriver

This section explains the steps to install your computer onto your bicycle

• Placing the computer on the handlebar

• Placing the magnet and sensor(s) on the bike

Placing the computer on the handlebar

The Trek Incite computer can be mounted on the handlebar or on the stem (Figure 3)

To install the computer on the handlebar

1. Determine your bicycle’s handlebar diameter: 22.2mm, 25.4/26.0mm, or 31.8mm.

2. Select the corresponding bar clamp

For a 22.2mm bar, use the rubber shim (provided) inside the smaller clamp.

3. Insert the handlebar clamp into the back of the computer base (Figure 4) and slide it towards the front of the base

4. Insert the rubber friction pad into the computer base, aligned across the computer base

5. With the wire pointing toward the front of the bike, wrap the bar clamp around the handlebar

6. Insert the screw through the washer and into the computer base

7. Tighten the screw until the computer base cannot rotate on the handlebar

8. Slide the computer into the computer base until the front of the computer and computer base line up

9. Check that the computer base cannot be rotated around the handlebar, and that

the computer cannot slide backwards on the computer base (Figure 5).

To install the computer on the stem

1. Insert the rubber friction pad into the computer base, aligned along the computer base

2. Insert two nylon ties through the computer base (Figure 6).

3. Place the base on the stem and tighten the nylon tie

4. Slide the computer into the computer base until the front of the computer and computer base line up

5. Check that the computer base cannot be rotated around the stem and the computer cannot slide backwards on the computer base

6. Tighten the nylon ties and trim the excess length

Placing the magnet and sensor(s) on the bike

The wheel magnet must be aligned so that it passes across the sensor. As the magnet passes the sensor, it must be no further from the sensor than 1 to 3mm (1/ 32 to 1/8 inch).

The wheel magnet has a ‘T’ shaped slot with two configurations: round spokes and flat or bladed spokes (Figure 7).

Computers with the cadence function have two sensors. The shorter computer wire is for the cadence sensor which mounts near the crankset. The sensor must be aligned so that the magnet passes within 1-3mm of the sensor, and in line with the small line on the sensor (Figure 8).

To install the magnet

1. Remove the screw from the magnet

2. Slide the slot in the back of the magnet over the spoke

For a flat or bladed spoke, start the spoke near the end where the spoke is round, and align the top of the ʻTʼwith the spoke as you slide the magnet up the blade

3. Thread the screw into the magnet until it is snug against the spoke

Trek Trek Incite Link Team (Wireless) Computers

I purchased this expensive cyclocomputer thinking that its high price would mean dependability and that it would be truly worth the price. Unfortunately, this was not the case and this is the worst computer I've ever had. You are far better off buying a $50 one. Functions are all quite basic and include: average/max/current cadence and speed, odometer, max/current heart rate and heart rate zones, temperature, riding time and clock. Why I need to know the temperature I'm not sure. I had been excited about being able to use the heart rate function so as to not have to use my heart rate monitor at the same time but it only picked up my heart rate monitor once and it was only for a few seconds. My heart rate watch was able to receive the signal it but this could not. What I also found very frustrating is that, unlike my last computer, it takes a bit for the computer to start up. When turned on it has to get a signal from each part (speed, cadence, heart rate) before starting. This may only take 20 seconds or so but if you press a button by accident before you start riding and it doesn't receive these signals it simply won't appear at all and you have to wait for it to go back into "sleep mode" in order to restart it again and send its signal in order to work. Save your money.

I bought a Trek Incite Link Team DW and it is a piece of garbage. Can't get the thing to work, the temperature doesn't even work and I've change out the batteries. The instructions are some of the worst I have ever seen. Please do not buy this waste of money

Star Trek: The Exhibit In San Jose

Those Star Trek fans living in the Bay area will be pleased to hear that Star Trek: The Exhibition will arrive there this fall.

On October 23, Star Trek: The Exhibition will open at the Tech Museum in San Jose, California, and run through at least Christmas. The run “could go beyond that if things go well,” said Elizabeth Williams , senior director of marketing at The Tech.

Star Trek: The Exhibition will take up more than fifteen thousand square feet, and will be larger than those seen in other cities, such as Detroit. “Once again, we’ve successfully endeavored to bring our visitors an exhibition that everyone on the planet, and even strange new worlds, can relate to, learn from and enjoy,” said Tech President Peter Freiss . “Housing the exhibition at the Tech Museum is perfectly logical.”

The exhibit will include: an authentic replica of the bridge from the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 (original series,) actual shooting model of a Borg cube, full-motion flight simulator, costumes and props, such as a tricorder, phaser and communicator, from all five Star Trek television shows as well as from the eleven movies, including Star Trek XI.

“Many of the comments they got in Detroit about the show were about why the new film wasn’t part of the exhibit and why it wasn’t part of the historical timeline in the exhibit,” said Elizabeth Williams, explaining that the exhibit has been updated and will include Star Trek XI .
