Twiddle Bring Big Jams and Guest Collaborations at Tumble Down

Twiddle Bring Big Jams and Guest Collaborations at Tumble Down

This past weekend, Tumble Down occurred at Wonderland Forest in Lafayette, N.Y. The fifth annual edition occurred on Sept. 22 and 23. During the event, highly-anticipated event, Twiddle took the stage, serving as the headliner over two nights at a newly picked venue located in the scenic landscape of Central New York’s Apple Valley.

The fresh event space boasted wondrous vistas, forests, and waterfalls accompanied by an impressive bill of artists, including Twiddle, Baked Shrimp, Andy Frasco and The U.N., and more. Twiddle occupied the main stage on both days, taking fans on an extended jam with sit-ins from notable artists.

On night one, the Vermont-based jamband opened with a partial play of fan-favorite “Blueberry Tumble” that cascaded into “GooBerry Jelly.” In a similar fashion, the previously mentioned song wasn’t played in full; instead, the band cut back into the set starter before a full take on “Subconscious Prelude.”  Highlights included “The Catapillar,” “Doinkinbonk!!!,” “Hattibagen McRat,” and the band’s usual merged pairing of “Hattie’s Jam” and “When It Rains It Poors.”

For Twiddle’s second set, they kicked off a four-song setlist with a performance of “Mamunes the Faun” bringing out Andy Frasco as support. The jam quartet then showed off their improvisational skills for a three-song frame featuring a 30-minute rendition of “Gatsby the Great” and other selects. Twiddle closed the night off with an encore of “Mushrooms of the Sea” and “Every Last Leaf.”

Night Two followed with another extended jam from Twiddle and various sit-ins. The band began the evening a little earlier with a surprise sit-in from frontman Mihali Savoulidis during Mike Powell’s frame on the Saloon Stage. Savoulidis continued the musical venture with his own solo set on the same stage, bringing out sit-in performances with Michael Oehmen on saxophone and Twiddle’s Zdenek Gubb on bass.

The full jamband then returned to the Main Stage to kick the second night off with another night of classics, including “Orlando’s,” “Apples,” “Cabbage Face,” and “Syncopated Healing.” Micahel Oehmen returned to the stage to accompany Twiddle on saxophone for “Lost in the Cold” to round out the end of the band’s first set.

The band opened their second set of the night with a “Frends Theme” before welcoming Lotus’ Tim Palmieri on guitar for an instrumental jam to “Latin Tang.” Twiddle continued on with their classic “White Light” before seamlessly segueing into “Frankenfoote.” The ensemble brought out their last surprise sit-in, Jeremy Schon from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong on guitar, for a rocking performance of “Slippin in the Kitchen.” The band ended the night with an encore of “Zazu’s Flight” and “Beautiful.”

The festival saw its last performance with a rare set from The Breakfast. The set included a notable sit-in from Twiddle’s drummer, Adrian Tramontano. Tumble Down was the latest in Twiddle’s last string of shows as Twiddle continues on their “Distance Makes the Heart ” farewell tour. The tour has only seven more shows before Twiddle embarks on their indefinite hiatus.

Twiddle to Take Indefinite Hiatus, Announce Farewell Tour

Twiddle to Take Indefinite Hiatus, Announce Farewell Tour

Today, after 18 years of touring, Vermont-based ensemble Twiddle have announced they will take an “indefinite hiatus” following one final tour billed as the Distance Makes the Heart Tour set for 2023.

“I come to you all with a heavy heart today to share a tough but important announcement. With the support of my bandmates, we are making the difficult decision to take an indefinite hiatus as a band starting in 2024 after 18 years of being on the road In times like these, I believe that change is necessary for creative growth and proper reflection,” wrote Twiddle’s Mihali Savoulidis to fans, explaining the band’s decision. “Music has engulfed my life ever since I was 14 years old, and since then I’ve devoted every part of myself to it. Twiddle in particular has been my life’s focus since college, and the band & crew members have been like brothers to me. I’ve now come to a crossroads in life where I feel I’m being pulled in many different directions. I need to make the right choice for me and for my family. I feel that now is the time to make a much needed change to gain a different perspective on life and focus my creative energy elsewhere.”

The frontman went on to write, “We are so blessed to have been able to live out our dreams because of you and your support. Without all of you, none of this would have been possible. I wouldn’t trade a second of this experience for anything. So from the bottom of my heart and with all my love, thank you so much for everything. The Twiddle community really feels like a big family and the amount of kindness and love that you have shown us and each other over the years has been nothing but inspiring. I am so proud to have been a part of it. With that being said, 2023 will be the band’s last year of touring for the foreseeable future. Please come celebrate the incredible community we have all built together during this next year and we hope to see all of you at least one more time. More shows for 2023 will be announced in the coming months, and we can’t wait to celebrate each and every night throughout this tour with you. This isn’t the end, it’s just goodbye for now. All our love and gratitude”

Along with the heartfelt message from Savoulidis, Twiddle released the first phase of dates for the Distance Makes the Heart Tour. Aerosmith reschedules Peace Out farewell tour: Dates for 3 Florida shows, how to get tickets

twiddle farewell tour

Florida Aerosmith fans will wait just a bit longer to finally say peace out  to the iconic rock band.

The rockers, who postponed their Peace Out farewell tour  after only a few shows in September, will return for a 40-date run starting Sept. 20 of this year.

Three Florida shows are included in this new schedule, all seeing dates in the early half of 2025. As with the original dates,  The Black Crowes  will open for Aerosmith.

When are the new Florida dates for Aerosmith's 'Peace Out' farewell tour? They also added an extra city

The new dates for the Florida shows are:

  • Friday, Feb. 14 - Tampa, Amelie Arena
  • Monday, Feb. 17 - Sunrise, Amerant Bank Arena

In addition to rescheduling the tour, the band added three cities: Pittsburgh, Orlando and Philadelphia, where their tour kicked off last September.

The Orlando date is Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the Kia Arena, recently renamed from the Amway Center.

Why did Aerosmith have to postpone 2023 tour dates? What happened to Steven Tyler?

On Sept. 12, Tyler initially  announced  that he had a severe vocal injury that occurred during Aerosmith's Saturday show in Long Island, New York.

“I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next thirty days,” Tyler, 75, said in a  statement  released by the band on Monday. “I sustained vocal cord damage during Saturday’s show that led to subsequent bleeding. We’ll need to postpone a few dates so that we can come back and give you the performance you deserve.

However, the band shared in a statement two weeks later that said “Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care.”

They shared the rock icon was receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but "given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”

I bought tickets to Aerosmith's 2023 shows. Will my tickets be honored?

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates, while tickets for the new shows will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time April 12 via  ticketmaster.com .

For those who previously purchased tickets and cannot attend the rescheduled concerts, refunds will be available at point of purchase. A series of VIP packages are also available at  aerosmith.com/VIP.

What songs can fans expect to hear at Aerosmith’s farewell shows?

USA TODAY attended the opening show in Philadelphia last year. While there could be changes to the set list, here's what it looked like prior to the postponement:

  • "Back in the Saddle"
  • "Love in an Elevator"
  • "Janie's Got a Gun"
  • "Adam's Apple"
  • "Livin' on the Edge"
  • "No More No More"
  • "Hangman Jury"
  • "Seasons of Wither"
  • "Movin' Out"
  • "Stop Messin' Around"
  • "Rats in the Cellar"
  • "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing"
  • "Sweet Emotion"
  • "Toys in the Attic"
  • "Walk This Way"

Are all original Aerosmith members on tour?

Original drummer  Joey Kramer  will be sitting out the band's final tour. John Douglas, Aerosmith's former drum tech, is filling Kramer's seat.

“While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed,” the band said in a statement.

However, fans can look forward to Tyler's yowl and his fellow Toxic Twin, Joe Perry, on the guitar. Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton remain on guitar and bass.

twiddle farewell tour

Buddy Guy’s mojo was working just fine at the Wilbur

Buddy Guy is shown at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 2022. The 87-year-old blues great is on a farewell tour that arrived at the Wilbur in Boston on Monday and moves on to the Chevalier Theatre in Medford on Wednesday.

A few minutes into his Monday night set at the Wilbur Theatre, the blues grandmaster Buddy Guy pulled one of his many gimmicks out of his bag of magic. While bending a note with his fretting hand, he tugged on his ear lobe with his picking hand, as though he were controlling the sound through his skin.

The electric guitar has been an extension of Guy’s still-lithe body almost all his life, since he first took up plucking a homemade, two-string diddley bow as a farmboy in Louisiana. At 87, he’s on an extended farewell tour that also takes him to the Chevalier Theatre in Medford on Wednesday.

He was about to “play something so funky you can smell it,” he said with a mischievous grin that rarely left his face Monday. That song was the Willie Dixon classic “Hoochie Coochie Man,” first recorded by the late Muddy Waters. One of the curiosities of Guy’s 70-year career is that, for all his fame, he has written only a couple of songs that have become part of the canon. He’s more of an envoy of the Chicago blues style.

In a rambling 75-minute set, Guy led his superb band — guitarist Ric Hall, bassist Orlando Wright, young keyboardist Dan Souvigny, and drummer Tom Hambridge — through a gallery tour of blues pillars, among them John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom,” Dixon’s “I Just Want to Make Love to You,” and Slim Harpo’s “I’m a King Bee.” Hall stepped to center stage at one point and ripped through a few bars of “Purple Haze.”

Hambridge, who got his start in Boston in the 1980s as the frontman for T.H. and the Wreckage, opened the show with a brief set of his own songs, accompanied on electric piano by Souvigny. Standing at a tiny cocktail kit, he transformed his snare drum (and occasional raps on the microphone stand) into a full orchestra.

On “The Fixer,” which he wrote for George Thorogood, Hambridge got the crowd to join him with appropriately placed finger snaps. Introducing another original, “The Blues Been Mighty Good to Me,” he explained how he invited Allen Toussaint to duet with him on his 2018 album “The Nola Sessions.” It would prove to be, he said, Toussaint’s last recording date.

As a producer, Hambridge has worked with the late B.B. King, Susan Tedeschi, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and many others. But his longest professional relationship has been with Guy.

Midway through his own set, Guy explained how Hambridge helped him write “Skin Deep,” the soulful title ballad to an album he released in 2008. “Skin deep/Underneath we’re all the same,” Guy sang softly. At his advanced age, he’s still attuned to dynamics: When he hushed the crowd with a faint falsetto or a few brushed notes, he was only setting them up for the next gale-force flurry.

Opening with “Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues,” the title track to his 1991 comeback album, Guy set a playful tone with a few pelvic thrusts. His signature polka-dotted Stratocaster blended seamlessly with his polka-dotted dress shirt.

That bag of magic contained plenty of tricks. At one point, his left hand spidering across the strings, he played a run up the fretboard. Later, laying his guitar down, he tapped out the familiar chords of “Sunshine of Your Love” with a drumstick.

And after ceding the stage during “Got My Mojo Working” to his guitar-playing son, Greg Guy, the man of the hour returned to the microphone as his band vamped its outro jam. Having already shed his instrument, Buddy Guy couldn’t help himself. He played an air guitar.
