What a gem of a store and staff. Wish they had one of these in Dallas. I would spend money here again in a heartbeat. Light weight sweatshirts are impressive here

This a great place. Have the best selection of good quality knives. A lot of knowledge and all around great staff. Have taken in my military surplus and really enjoyed talking to them. Always enjoy supporting local businesses!

A nice little hybrid outdoor/army surplus store. It lacks the selection and quality of higher end stores like Pack Rat or L&C, but the prices on the equipment they do have make up for it. If you need some camping gear, climbing gear, or just clothes, and you want them without breaking the bank, this is the place for you!

Awesome place to shop! The gentlemen behind the counter were a pleasure to talk with. They answered all of my questions and were professional and friendly. The store itself has a great selection. Everything from camping gear, to military surplus, and the prices can't be beat. Before you go to one of those big-name stores, swing by Uncle Sam's. They'll probably have what you're looking for.

I'm not really "into" the type of stuff this store sells, so be aware of this fact! For me personally, the store was maybe 2-3 stars because I just didn't have an interest in most of the products, but looking at it objectively I give the store 4 stars. It's fairly large, well-organized, and has about 3/4 camping and backpacking and other outdoor supplies, clothing, footwear, etc, and 1/4 army surplus items. Most of this store's inventory appears to be new, but some of the army surplus stuff is secondhand. It seems to have hip inventory without the crazy price tags or attitude. Some items are higher priced but it seems to be in line with competitors' pricing for the brands and/or quality, and army surplus items have reasonable prices all around. There seem to be some real finds in that section of the store, if you're into this sort of thing. They do have items for men and women.

Justin Macedo — A Success Story

Uncle Sam’s Safari Outfitters has been serving customers in the Fayetteville area since 1982.

When University of Arkansas student Justin Macedo began working there in 2018, he didn’t know that one day he would own the business.

Justin loves the outdoors. He worked summer jobs as a fly fishing guide and boat captain in Alaska and as a backpacking guide in Colorado.

Upon graduation from the university in 2022 with a degree in small business and entrepreneurship, he learned that Uncle Sam’s was for sale.

“I reached out to Scott Lacy at the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at the  University of Arkansas  for help in evaluating the business to understand if the purchase was a good idea for me,” said Justin.

Lacy helped him evaluate the business from a  financial and market perspective , and they worked together to create financial projections and financing structure.

“Scott helped me understand how to best finance the business and determine how well the business would have to perform in order to pay down debt,” Justin said.

They also worked on how to manage and project his cash and how much Justin would be able to pay himself.

The acquisition of the business was completed with a combination of owner financing and a family loan.

Justin’s purchase of Uncle Sam’s was finalized in 2022. Under his ownership, it will continue as a locally owned Fayetteville institution for outdoor enthusiasts in Northwest Arkansas.
