Located in Trentino in northeastern Italy, Val di Fassa is one of the major and most well known valleys of the region.
The alpine valley is most famous for its Dolomites, which in 2009 became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will find the Sella Group, Sassolungo and the Catinaccio mountains, in addition to the Marmolada, the most majestic mountain of the Dolomites that at 3,343 m. boasts the highest peak of the Monti Pallidi.
Arguably the most spectacular mountains in the world, the Dolomites are the pride of Val di Fassa, especially during the winter season when thousands of tourists from around the world flock to the numerous ski slopes . Particularly popular are the slopes of the Sellaronda, or the Tour of the 4 Passes that includes the Sella Pass, the Pordoi Pass, the Campolongo Pass and the Gardena Pass. Strapped into your skis as you follow the Sellaronda either clockwise or counterclockwise, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views and the best slopes in the world. Just one ski pass , the Dolomiti Superski, gives tourists access to three provinces (Trento, Bolzano and Belluno) and two regions (Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto). The Dolomite passes have in common not only territory and tourism, but also the minority Ladin language that is spoken in the valleys around the Sella: Val di Fassa, Val Gardena, Val Badia, and Livinallongo as well as Cortina d’Ampezzo. As a result, these territories are linked through very similar cultures and popular traditions.
From a demographic aspect, Val di Fassa includes about 10,000 residents divided into seven municipalities: Canazei (Alba and Penia) , Campitello di Fassa , Mazzin (with Campestrin and Fontanazzo) , Pozza di Fassa (with Pera di Fassa) , Vigo di Fassa , Soraga and Moena .
As a tourist destination, both in summer and winter Val di Fassa offers not only an extensive array of sleeping arrangements, but also satisfies even the most discerning palate. Si inoltra nel bosco di abeti e piroetta sulle creste dei Monzoni, fa il solletico alla Regina, sua maestà la Marmolada, per raggiungere il Contrin, poi si inebria di fiori e del profumo ipnotico del fieno tra i pascoli della Val Duron. Rimane in quota per raggiungere il Buffaure e godersi così, tutto intero, l’incantesimo del Catinaccio. Riemerge ancora da laghi alpini e sorgenti di Dolomia. Fa capriole su prati brillanti e apre le danze in borghi vestiti a festa per accogliere le luci della sera.
