Highlights of a western caribbean cruise.
Discover why a Western Caribbean cruise is a perfect choice for a first-time cruiser.
I was formerly an extremely reluctant cruiser. Exploring our world from a luxurious floating hotel felt like it would provide a selective and sanitised view of the destinations visited.
Every fibre of my former backpacker self screamed in protest.
But there’s a lot to be said for having the ability to visit multiple destinations over a short time minus the need for frequent packing and unpacking. Exploration by day, you can then return to the comfort of your cabin and a slap-up meal.
I will go as far as to say it’s an excellent way for a first-time solo traveller to get their feet wet, so to speak.
The turning point for me was taking my first cruise to the Western Caribbean.
The Caribbean is a deservedly popular cruise destination. Its tropical climate and geography are seductive, and cruising is an easy way to explore different Caribbean islands in a short space of time.
However, as enticing as they are, there is more to the Caribbean than its islands.
Western Caribbean cruises can include ports along the coast of Central American countries, such as Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia , allowing you to dip your toes into the balmy waters of this region with very little effort.
Discover what to expect on a cruise of the Western Caribbean, with these highlights from a cruise that I did on Celebrity’s Equinox from Fort Lauderdale .
IN THIS ARTICLE
My Western Caribbean Cruise Itinerary
I sailed with Celebrity Cruises onboard the Equinox in and out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This 11-night cruise was scheduled to stop in six ports: Grand Cayman, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize and Mexico.
However, due to stormy weather, the ship was unable to put down anchor off the shore of Belize. Consequently, Belize is not included in this feature.
This proves that it is risky to plan a cruise around a single must-see destination.
Western Caribbean Cruise Highlights
Swimming with stingrays in grand cayman.
Grand Cayman, the largest and most populous of the Cayman Islands, was the first stop on this Western Caribbean cruise.
George Town, where ships drop anchor, is pleasant enough. However, the real attractions are to be found in the island’s pristine waters.
Stingray City , an area of shallow sandbars about half an hour’s boat ride off Grand Cayman’s north coast, is the Caribbean’s unofficial aquatic petting zoo. It is one of the few places in the world where you can safely swim with wild stingrays.
No one can accuse these stingrays of being shy.
Accustomed to being around people, these graceful and gentle creatures will welcome you to their home and will allow you to pet them and swim with them. They will gladly float around you, rub up against you and beg you for morsels of their favourite snack, squid.
Swimming with the stingrays was an incredible experience and worth every last penny.
The other cool thing about Grand Cayman is that you get to go to Hell . If that isn’t a super selfie opportunity, I don’t know what is!
Exploring colonial Cartagena, Colombia
What visions are conjured up when someone mentions Colombia to you?
Crime and cocaine? Or romantic images of conquistadors, pirates and missionaries travelling to the New World in search of material or spiritual riches?
What you get in Cartagena, is a charming, compact colonial old town. And not a drug baron to be seen.
I opted for a cruise ship excursion that focused on Cartagena’s 16 th and 17 th Century Old Town . It also included the city’s imposing fort (the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas ), the largest and strongest fortress built by the Spanish in their colonies.
Transiting the Panama Canal
The next port of call was Colón , Panama’s second-largest city.
Colón itself has little to offer; the port is run-down and the city has a high crime rate. Most guidebooks advise giving the city a wide berth with one source going as far as to describe Colón as “a giant slum.”
However, the port of Colón marks the entrance to the Atlantic entrance of the Panama Canal .
Opened in 1914, the man-made Panama Canal joins the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Acknowledged to be one of the biggest and most challenging engineering projects ever undertaken, it has had a huge impact on shipping between the two oceans, avoiding the long and hazardous route around the tip of South America.
This is a very long and tiring day trip but worth it.
After a short bus ride from Colón, we entered Pedro Miguel Locks , the second of the two sets of locks on the Pacific side. From there we sailed across Miraflores Lake, a small artificial freshwater lake, separating Pedro Miguel Locks from Miraflores Locks , the third and last set of locks.
Greeted by the Bridge of the Americas , we arrived in the Pacific Ocean, with sweeping views across the Bay of Panama and Panama City ’s modern skyline. Then it was back on a bus for the return journey to the Equinox.
Going wild in Costa Rica
Landing on Costa Rica’s shores in the early 16 th Century, Christopher Columbus was none too impressed.
Expecting to find vast mineral wealth, he found none. However, Costa Rica’s riches lie in its abundant natural beauty crammed into a small space.
Visiting the country on a day trip from a cruise of the Western Caribbean is an easy way to sample its beauty.
From a Western Caribbean cruise, the best way to spend time in Costa Rica is to take an excursion to the Veragua Rain Forest and sail along the Tortuguero Canals.
The first stop was the Veragua Rain Forest which, as a 4,000-acre nature theme park, had the potential to be tacky but was excellent. The experience was transformed by the enthusiastic and informative staff who guided us through a dazzling array of wildlife.
We were whisked by a gondola over the forest canopy down to the river below for a lunch stop. Then it was a spot of sloth-watching on a cruise along the Tortuguero Canals .
Dodging the showers in Cozumel, Mexico
With its powder-soft white sand beaches fringed with coral reefs, Cozumel ticks many of the boxes for a Caribbean island. It surpasses the bigger and brasher Cancún, having more easily accessible Mayan ruins, more authentic Mexican cuisine and better snorkelling.
From the downtown pier in the centre of San Miguel, the island’s sole city, it’s an easy walk into town. Alternatively, catch one of the passenger ferries to Playa del Carmen, a 45-minute journey.
But if your time in port is short, explore San Miguel itself. Its main attractions – mostly restaurants and shops – are clustered around its main plaza.
To get to San Gervasio , Cozumel’s largest Mayan and Toltec site, your best bet is an excursion. If you’ve never seen a Mayan pyramid before, this is your chance.
Why You Should Choose a Western Caribbean Cruise
In my view, a Western Caribbean cruise is pretty much ideal, especially for the first-time solo cruiser . It’s a very comfortable experience with high levels of service, luxury travel on a budget .
In comparison to the Eastern Caribbean, cruises are shorter and less expensive. The ports of call have more of a cultural and historical focus and concentrate less on beaches and shopping.
It is also a relatively safe and easy way to experience Central America, especially as a solo traveller. This was the first cruise I took, on the advice of a friend who is a serial cruiser. I have never looked back.

Sea Paradise: Pictures of the Best Western Caribbean Beaches
By Carnival Cruise Line
If you’re planning a vacation to the western Caribbean , whether it’s a family cruise, romantic getaway or fun trip with friends, you’re almost certainly envisioning spectacular beach scenes – powdery white sand, palm trees swaying in a gentle breeze and sparkling, turquoise waters. Embark upon a western Caribbean cruise and you’ll discover it’s not just a dream; those pictures of beautiful beaches in the Caribbean will soon become your real-life surroundings.
Seven Mile Beach – Grand Cayman
Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman is consistently ranked among the best in the Caribbean. The crescent-shaped stretch of soft white sand presents a picture-perfect scene. It’s one of the most popular beaches in the Caribbean, but expansive enough to accommodate everyone without feeling crowded. Many amenities and activities are available, but long walks are great for taking in the natural beauty. Seven Mile Beach is a short taxi ride from the cruise port in George Town.
Mayan Princess Beach – Mahogany Bay
Claim your own private stretch of West Bay Beach on Roatán , one of Honduras’ beautiful Bay Islands. It’s renowned for snorkeling, with a remarkable barrier reef close enough to shore to reach by swimming. The sea life is incredible and the visibility is excellent. Arrange the Mayan Princess All Inclusive Resort With Open Bar excursion and enjoy a buffet lunch, open bar and beach chairs, plus access to swimming pools and more. Expect a 45-minute bus ride from the Mahogany Bay cruise port.
Starfish Private Island Beach – Belize
The Starfish Private Island Getaway With Lunch takes you to a 3-acre island filled with sand, palms and thatched huts surrounded by turquoise waters. The boat ride is just 10 minutes. Spend the day swimming or snorkeling, looking out for the starfish that inspired the island’s name, or playing on the inflatable, floating playground. The ambiance here in Belize is laid back, but there are plenty of activities available should you wish to leave your hammock.
Smathers Beach – Key West
The biggest public beach in Key West is Smathers Beach, a popular spring break spot that’s beautiful all year. It’s clean, spacious and has ample amenities including bathrooms, volleyball courts and rentals of beach chairs, umbrellas and jet skis. Many visitors enjoy lying out under coconut palms and watching the jets take off and land at the airport. Food trucks give you plenty of lunch and snack options.
Passion Island Beach – Cozumel
Passion Island Beach, a private island lined with white-sand beaches, is a 45-minute scenic boat ride from Cozumel . Take the All Inclusive Passion Island by Power Catamaran excursion and explore the island. It’s great for families, with a kids’ center inspired by a Mexican fair. Little ones can try arts and crafts, ring toss games and scavenger hunts, and there are fun contests for the whole family too.
Ocho Rios Bay Beach – Ocho Rios
Ocho Rios Bay Beach is the closest beach to the cruise ship dock in Ocho Rios . A scenic highlight is a small waterfall which flows into the Caribbean Sea. The clean beach, manned by lifeguards and offering bathrooms and changing facilities, charges a small entrance fee. Options for watersports and rentals are plentiful.
SunRay Beach – Grand Turk
SunRay Beach on Grand Turk is notable as part of Columbus Landfall National Park , believed to be where Columbus first landed in the Americas. The white sand, calm, clear, turquoise water, nice restaurants, bars, nearby shops and complimentary lounge chairs attract many visitors, making it the most popular on the island. It’s very easy to reach, located right next to the cruise center.
Mahahual Beach – Costa Maya
The charm of Mahahual Beach is in its adjacent town, a small Yucatán fishing village that’s developed into a buzzing tourist destination just 10 minutes (by taxi or port shuttle) from the Costa Maya cruise port. The calm waters are great for kids, and there’s a Malecón (seafront boardwalk) ideal for strolling. Find a quiet spot on the beach by walking to its more remote and rustic south end.
It’s easy to get inspired by Caribbean beach pictures, but it’s so much better when you get to see them in real life during a Caribbean cruise . Be sure to schedule plenty of time on the sand during your next vacation.
Note: Onboard activities, shore excursions, and dining options may vary by ship and destination.

I spent $2,000 for 7 nights in a 179-square-foot room on one of the world's largest cruise ships. Take a look inside my cabin.
- I booked a stateroom on Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, one of the biggest cruise ships.
- For $2,000 a week, the 179-square-foot cabin had a private bathroom, a king-size bed, and a view.
- I thought I'd feel cramped in the room, but it had everything I needed and left no space unused.
In April 2022, I cruised on board Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas . At the time, it was the largest cruise ship in the world , but the title has since been replaced by Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas .
During my voyage, the ship sailed to Roatán, Honduras; Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico; and Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas .
For $2,000, I spent seven nights in an ocean-view stateroom on deck eight. The cruise was on sale, as it was originally priced at $3,000. Take a look inside the 179-square-foot space.
My room was a mid-tier cabin at the front of deck eight.
I booked a mid-tier room — a step above interior staterooms , which have no window. It's a category below staterooms with a balcony , and two steps below a suite.
My cabin was on the same deck as Central Park, an outdoor space with 20,000 plants.
I thought it was the most relaxing area on the ship, so I enjoyed being close by.
When I stepped inside my stateroom, I was surprised at how big it felt.
Right away, I thought the cabin made great use of a small space.
To operate most of the electricity in the room, I had to insert my room key into a slot on the wall.
I appreciated the energy-saving system.
On one side of the room, I had a mirror and a desk with several outlets to charge electronics with USB, American, and European ports.
I thought the desk was useful for eating, as well as storing daily flyers about the day's events.
Next to the desk, a set of drawers included a cabinet with a minifridge inside.
The desk drawers were mostly empty aside from a hair dryer, which I didn't end up using.
Across from the desk, I had a couch positioned in between two closets.
Inside each closet, I found a rack of hangers, shelving, and a small safe. I thought it was plenty of space for a weeklong journey
Next to the couch and desk area, a small bathroom used clever storage hacks, like placing the trash can and toilet paper under the counter.
In the bathroom, there were two glasses, a bar of soap, and a two-in-one hair and body wash.
At the top of the shower, a pullout clothing line was useful for drying my bathing suits.
Each night, my stateroom attendant replenished towels and brought flyers and schedules for the next day.
Sometimes, the towels were folded creatively to look like animals.
I noticed that my king-size bed at the back of the room was actually two twin beds pushed together.
All Royal Caribbean cabins come with this configuration, according to its website , so they may be separated for additional guests. I often woke up in the crevice.
A large flat-screen TV was mounted across from the bed with storage hooks below.
Skinny nightstands on either side of the bed held lamps, charging ports, and a room phone on one side.
Because I booked an ocean-view room, I was able to look out over the front of the ship from a window above my bed.
The window was equipped with an electronic shade that could be opened during the day for grand views and closed when I was ready to sleep.
While I thought the room might have been a tight space for a couple with a lot of luggage or a family, it was just right for me.
And watching the sun rise over the Caribbean Sea from the comfort of my room was the best part.

Discover Paradise on a Weeklong Western Caribbean Cruise
Our 7-night Western Caribbean cruises are full of culture and adventure. Explore ancient Mayan history and zipline over a verdant jungle. Sample authentic Mexican cuisine in the Mayan Riviera and indulge in a slice of key lime pie in Key West.
Some of the world’s most stunning beaches are here, as are some of the most striking coral reefs. Snorkel through the Great Maya Reef—one of the largest reefs in the world—or bask on a soft sand beach with a mojito in hand. Marvel at the multi-colored starfish that line the seafloor as you snorkel above Starfish Alley in Honduras. You can do it all in luxury on Western Caribbean cruises with Celebrity Cruises.
Featured Ports of Call
On the island of Roatán in Honduras, embark on a brand-new adventure. Horseback ride along island trails down to the sea, where your gentle steed will take you right into the water for a refreshing dip. Or try snuba diving on Roatán’s legendary reefs, where you'll wear an oxygen face mask and dive 20 feet down, swimming through the canyons below. If fishing is your sport, take a charter out on a deep-sea expedition that (hopefully) ends with the catch of a lifetime—and some bragging rights.
Costa Maya, located on the Yucatan Peninsula, is brimming with natural wonders and ancient structures just waiting to be explored. Snap photos of local wildlife at an eco-park or go river tubing at the Lagoon of Seven Colors. Simply relax on the beach or browse local shops for artisan crafts to take back home.
Cozumel is home to some of the world’s best spots for water sports, Mayan ruins, and marine life experiences. Explore the area’s coral reef formations and tropical fish on a scuba diving or snorkeling excursion. Trek to ancient Mayan structures or go on an ATV ride deep in the jungle. Take a cooking class from a local chef and learn about ancient chocolate creation techniques.
Surrounded by sparkling clear waters and gorgeous beaches, the vibrant capital city of Nassau in the Bahamas is an incredible stop on a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise. Unwind on the sand or jump into the warm waters for a snorkeling adventure, where you’ll see vibrant coral reefs teeming with colorful tropical fish. Or, stay on land and take a Jeep Wrangler tour to see the natural wonders and historic landmarks of the island, then enjoy an authentic Bahamian fish fry.
In the beautiful Grand Cayman, take a stroll down the powdery white sands of the pristine Seven Mile Beach. Swim with dozens of friendly stingrays on a guided tour. Dive or snorkel through crystal-clear waters to see colorful marine life in motion. Go underground and visit the unique Crystal Caves on a guided tour. Enjoy the freshest seafood, tropical fruits, and local rum.
On your Western Caribbean cruise, a stop in the Central American nation of Belize offers many treasures for you to explore. Tour the fascinating Mayan ruins at Xunatunich, which is home to up to 25 ancient temples and palaces dating from 1000 B.C. Hike through lush rainforests and look for native wildlife. Take a birding tour and see how many of the 500 avian species that live here you can spot.

Royal Caribbean is canceling all stops at this private island port due to over 2,500 deaths & injuries in 3 months

Royal Caribbean has stopped ships from docking at a private island port in Haiti due to ongoing violence in the region.
The cruise line canceled ships from docking at that port through May, but last week Royal Caribbean modified cruise schedules to avoid the port throughout the summer and into September, according to a post on the Royal Caribbean blog.
“Guests booked on cruises in the summer and early fall are getting notifications from Royal Caribbean that their visits to Labadee have been canceled,” the blog post stated . “On Tuesday (April 23), cruisers began to share updates they received from Royal Caribbean that their itineraries have been updated to drop Labadee and replace it with another port or a sea day.”
Labadee is a beach area owned by Royal Caribbean located on a peninsula in northern Haiti. It is barricaded from the rest of the country and has its own security force.
Between January and March of this year, more than 2,500 people were killed or injured due to violence across Haiti, specifically in the capital of Port-au-Prince.
Royal Caribbean International did not formally announce any changes on its website. Royal Caribbean Blog is not connected with Royal Caribbean International and is just a site for fans of the cruise liner.
However, the blog reposted a notice from the cruise liner about the itinerary changes without mentioning the violence.
“Due to the continuing situation in Haiti, we’ll now visit Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos, instead of Labadee, Haiti,” the notice reads. “We’re sorry for the change – your safety is our top priority. Nevertheless, we’re excited to visit a new port with you!”
This decision by Royal Caribbean comes after the U.S. issued a warning to tourists to avoid traveling to Haiti at this time due to an increase in gang-related violence.

Royal Caribbean Lifts Profit View Again on Cruise Boom, Higher Prices

(Reuters) -Royal Caribbean Group on Thursday raised its annual profit forecast for a second time, after record bookings during the first quarter and higher ticket pricing boosted its results, sending its shares 4% higher premarket.
Soaring demand for vacations at sea has given cruise operators ample room to raise ticket prices as the industry looks to close the pricing gap between more expensive land-based holidays and give their profits a lift.
Royal Caribbean also beat expectations for quarterly profit and revenue, with half of its yield growth coming from higher ticket pricing.
"Our existing fleet along with our new ships continue to perform exceptionally well, highlighted by the market response to the launch of Icon of the Seas," said CEO Jason Liberty.
The company now expects annual adjusted profit between $10.70 and $10.90 per share, compared with its earlier forecast of $9.90 to $10.10.
The Celebrity Cruises operator carried 2.05 million passengers in the quarter, nearly 14% higher year-over-year. It also reported record demand during the "wave season" - a period marked by special cruise deals and discounts for the year.
That helped its quarterly revenue of $3.73 billion surpass expectations of $3.69 billion, according to LSEG data.
Higher ticket prices have helped shield the company from slightly steeper net cruise costs expected this year due to increased dry dock days, as well as an impact from canceled voyages to the Red Sea amid tensions in the region.
The company expects net cruise costs excluding fuel to increase about 5.5% for the year, up from its earlier forecast for a rise between 3.75% to 4.25%.
Royal Caribbean's adjusted earnings per share of $1.77 beat market expectations of $1.33.
"I remember owning the stock in 2022 and every client was giving me grief about it," said Peter Ahluwalia, manager at Belinvest Global Equity Fund that holds Royal Caribbean stocks and chief investment officer at Swiss Partners Group. "We're turning almost 45% return on equity at the moment, which is quite incredible."
Shares of the company have risen 126% to about $137 in the past year.

Cruises Make Great Birthday Weekend Getaways
Throw your kid a party they won't forget.
By Heidi Sarna | Published on April 29, 2024
Birthdays are the best time of year to celebrate your loved ones, especially your children. As your child's birthday approaches this year, consider making a bigger splash than a routine visit to your local arcade or trampoline park. Go for the ultimate wow factor and get away with your family for a celebration on a cruise ship — your go-to for the best birthday weekend getaways.
Cruises make the best weekend trips for birthdays because they offer immersive fun for all ages. Trade planning birthday parties for seamless celebrations everyone in your crew can enjoy. And let the ship, which caters to the younger set with nonstop bow-to-stern fun, serve as their playground. I can't think of a more perfect setting for the best birthday trips.
As a mom who has delighted in celebrating my twin sons' birthdays on Royal Caribbean cruise ships, I'm thrilled to offer my top tips for planning the best birthday cruises, ensuring your kid's next birthday is one they'll never forget.
How To Choose The Right Ship And Itinerary
Every ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet is a potentially great choice for weekend birthday trips. The stage is set the minute you board, with the engaging crew on the gangway — your very own birthday weekend welcome wagon. The buzz is palpable, and a festive vibe permeates the air.
While the ship and its amenities provide the ultimate birthday backdrop, the destinations you visit will also be great opportunities to make memories. Which itineraries promise the best birthday weekend getaways? Well, that's easy, in my opinion. The best birthday cruises are Royal Caribbean's weekend cruises to The Bahamas.
Three-night cruises depart Fridays from three Florida ports — Orlando (Port Canaveral), Ft. Lauderdale and Miami . All of these sailings feature the best way to spend a birthday in paradise: a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay , Royal Caribbean's private island in The Bahamas.
The Party Starts In Your Stateroom
Royal Caribbean offers a variety of birthday trip celebratory gifts that you can pre-order in advance (or once you're onboard — a win for my fellow procrastinators out there). Classic Royal Caribbean packages include a magnetic "Happy Birthday" sign for your door, while your stateroom is adorned with a birthday garland and festive decor.
Tap into your inner creativity and stash a few extra decorations from home in your suitcase (don't forget some magnets if you want to put more birthday decor on the cabin door). I've found that photos or cutouts of my kids' favorite film characters, superheroes or animals work great.
I packed a few rolls of colorful crepe streamers to celebrate my twin sons' eighth birthdays on a birthday weekend getaway, looping nautical-themed blue and white streamers around their cabin bunk beds as they slept so they'd wake up to festive vibes. I also went to the onboard shop and purchased cute inflatable ships to place around the stateroom and captain's hats for our family to wear. Signifying we were on a birthday trip brought many welcome cheers from the ship's excellent crew as well as guests.
No perfect birthday weekend getaway is complete without cake. Royal Caribbean can help by delivering your sweets , too. Choose a vanilla or chocolate birthday cake, a box of mini vanilla or red-velvet cupcakes or request chocolate-chunk brownies, which can arrive at your stateroom to kick off your celebrations. I fondly recall a birthday cruise with Grandpa and Grandma in tow. We started the all-day birthday celebrations for my boys nice and early with ice-cream sundaes at Ben & Jerry's® for breakfast!
The Best Birthday Activities Onboard
If you were celebrating on land, you might rent a party space or take the kids to an amusement park for their birthday. On a Royal Caribbean cruise, the stage is already set with countless included activities for all ages.
A day onboard quickly fills with fun for all ages, from mini golf to rock climbing, zip lines and water slides, not to mention my kids' favorite, the FlowRider® surf simulator. Much of the fun is included in your cruise fare, with a few options offered at an additional charge, like the RipCord® by iFLY® skydiving simulator on Quantum Class ships. It's totally worth it, by the way.
I can't forget to mention the fun for kids joining the Adventure Ocean® Youth Program. A highlight of my sons' weekend birthday cruise was making new friends, dabbling in some arts and crafts and participating in wacky science experiments in their age-appropriate grouping.
You can always put on your thinking cap (or birthday hat) and design a little treasure hunt for your wee ones. I did this once, drawing a simple treasure map for my sons' birthday that led them around the ship to find six special birthday surprises — a slice of pizza, an ice cream cone, the toy section of the gift shop, roller-skating tag with mom, etc. Royal Caribbean ships are ready-made for special event cruises, so make the most of it.
Perfect Port Days
The best birthday weekend getaways include a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay. When it's time to take the party from the ship to the shore, Perfect Day at CocoCay is ready for you.
Almost all of Royal Caribbean's weekend cruises out of Florida call on the cruise line's private island. It's an island paradise that truly caters to the whole family, especially kids. Eat as many burgers, hot dogs and fries as you want at the island's five complimentary dining spots when you're not jumping for joy in the giant Oasis Lagoon®, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean.
Birthday kids can live it up splashing around Captain Jill's Galleon℠, a shipwreck complete with geysers, slides and drench buckets, and the Splashaway Bay℠ water park for the smallest swashbucklers with fountains, pools, mini waterslides and more.
When you need a break from the party pace, unwind on the powdery sands of Chill Island® and South Beach — family-friendly spots with beach chairs and umbrellas lined up and waiting.
And since you've got a birthday to celebrate, why not spring for Thrill Waterpark® ? With a floating trampoline, wave pool and 13 waterslides, it's a great place to let little ones have a blast and earn bragging rights. Did I mention one of the attractions is the tallest waterslide in North America at 135 feet?
Your kid's special day wouldn't be complete without a ride on Up, Up and Away, a helium balloon that takes guests soaring 450 feet up for out-of-this-world views from the highest vantage point in The Bahamas.
Customizing Birthday Cruises: Top Tips
Whenever you're sailing with Royal Caribbean, you'll see many groups celebrating. It's fun to see many families and groups kitted out in matching T-shirts, baseball caps and accessories designed with the birthday kid's name. Consider planning ahead with your own custom-designed clothing to make your weekend party cruise that much more fun.
Of course, in the dining room at any given time, you can hear the sound of "Happy Birthday" being sung by the servers and fellow guests eager to join in the revelry. Make sure you mention to your waiter that there's a birthday kid in your party.
Think outside of the birthday box and see how you can customize your weekend birthday cruise to suit your preferences and requirements. With some planning, sometimes private spaces onboard the ship can be reserved, and special food and music arranged — especially if you're traveling with the extended family or a group of friends. Contact the Royal Gifts department (or Groups Department , if you're traveling with a large group of friends and family) to see what can be put together.
Capturing The Birthday Fun
The ship's professional photographers will be happy to capture precious moments of your sailing, including a weekend birthday cruise bash. Get the family dressed in their finest — or maybe in the matching T-shirts you brought along or the captains' hats you bought in the gift shop — and make some seriously fun memories to cherish forever.
If you have special thoughts about where you want your photos taken, talk to the photography team. They're a friendly crew with lots of ideas. When your photo shoot is over, you can purchase your favorite pictures in digital form or as prints — it's up to you.
The icing on the birthday cake? Royal Caribbean's family- and birthday-friendly weekend cruises often include frequent offers for families like complimentary sailing for kids if they stay in the same stateroom as their parents. Now that's a birthday present for the adults, too!
