Saw this band at a wonderful club, the Music Box, in San Diego. The crowd was very appreciative of the band & the band responded. They played from their new CD and great backlist songs. Band has been around for over a decade and seem so comfortable with themselves. Great sound (vocals/instruments), solid work & steady. Everyone sang along and all had a great time. I'm an old fart but have all their cds and really love their sound. Absolutely recommend a hear at a local club near you.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! A VERY EMOTUONALLY CHARGED EXPERIENCE!! STANDING FOUR FEET AWAY FROM THE BAND, LISTENING TO TRACKS RANGING FROM ALL FIVE ALBUMS, YELLING LYRICS TO WVERY SONG, PUNCHING FISTS IN THE AIR TO THE DRUMBEAT, AND DELICIOUS BASS!! THE CROWD SATURATED IN THEIR ADORATION OF MUSICALITY. INTIMATE, SOULFUL, TIMELESS, AND THE CRESCENDO OF THE FINAL SONG SET TEARS IN MOTION WHILE TRIPPING OVER THE LYRICS RETURNED BACK TO THE PASSIONATE PERFORMERS!! THANK YOU, I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS EXPERIENCE!! SO GLAD TO SEE THEM LIVE!! XXX

I came to the show with high expectations, since White Lies is one of my favorite bands. I really enjoy many of their songs and was expecting that they would be even better live. But honestly, they were worse. They only had a person playing piano, apart from the band members, and the result was worse versions of their songs. The singer Harry McVeigh seemed unsure, he was playing the wrong chord here and there and mostly his guitar didnt sound at all. The base player didnt show any charisma during the whole concert. The drummer was the only one who was really good. The others were trash honsetly. The whole concert just seemed unproffesional, they just played their songs poorly and nothing inbetween, no smooth transitions, just bad. Really bad. Im really dissapointed honestly.

It comes after the band released their last album, ‘Five’ in 2019. The band have shared a video, directed by Jame Arden, for the title track, which you can view below.

“We wrote this song really quickly, late one night and often the songs that come quickest are written from the gut and the heart, not with the head,” the band said in a statement.

They continued: “It’s about accepting vulnerability as a man and knowing it’s OK to be broken. There’s never been a more pressing time to spread the message that it’s OK to not be OK.”

Recorded over two studio sessions, As I Try Not To Fall Apart is White Lies most expansive record to date, taking in explosive rock, electro-pop, prog-inspired invention, funk-tinged grooves and some of their most indelible hooks yet.

Working with Mittendorfer, formative versions of swaggering album opener Am I Really Going To Die and the airy rock of the title track were captured, whilst another round of songwriting at Buller’s house ahead of a second recording session really got them firing. “It got us on the same page,” says McVeigh. Soon a coherent album was emerging out of the mist, a record that streamlined everything great about White Lies: razor-sharp hooks, dark lyrical wit, defiant singalongs, airy soundscapes and dynamic instrumentation.

It’s well over a decade since the band’s breakthrough single Death introduced a group for whom the fragility of human existence has been a constant touchstone. Now in his 30s, chief lyricist Cave’s outlook on the great unknown has evolved. “I think the side of death or mortality that I always find interesting is the fact we all know it’s going to happen,” he says, “and how different people navigate that.”

White Lies tested their resolve to get there, but they didn’t fall apart. They have emerged with their most vital collection of songs in years.

White Lies are: Harry McVeigh (vocals / guitar), Charles Cave (bass) & Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums).

White Lies

White Lies is an English post-punk band from Ealing, London. Formerly known as Fear of Flying, the core band members are Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar), Charles Cave (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). The band performs live as a five-piece, when sidemen Tommy Bowen and Rob Lee join the line up. White Lies' musical style has been described as dark yet uplifting by the media, drawing comparisons to Editors, Interpol, Joy Division, and The Killers.

White Lies formed in October 2007, after writing songs that they felt didn't suit their original band. After delaying their first performance for five months to build up media hype, they earned a recording contract with Fiction Records days after their debut. The release of singles Unfinished Business and Death led to tours and festival appearances in the United Kingdom and North America, including a headline performance at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend and a place on the 2009 NME Awards Tour. At the beginning of 2009, White Lies featured in multiple "ones to watch" polls for the coming year, including the BBC's Sound of 2009 poll and the BRITs Critics' Choice Award.

White Lies' debut album To Lose My Life... , released in January 2009, hit number one on the UK Albums Chart. Their second album Ritual was recorded in 2010, and released on January 17, 2011. Big TV , their third studio album, was released on August 12, 2013, and their fourth, titled Friends , was released October 7, 2016.

WHITE LIES share new single, ‘Blue Drift’, from forthcoming sixth album due February 18th 2022 plus live dates

Home » WHITE LIES share new single, ‘Blue Drift’, from forthcoming sixth album due February 18th 2022 plus live dates

With their forthcoming sixth album,  As I Try Not To Fall Apart  due this Friday (18th February) on PIAS,   White Lies  have shared new album cut, “ Blue Drift”  and announce a  limited edition gold cassette album format , limited to 300 copies and only available via the band’s store (order  here ).

The band’s Charles Cave says of “ Blue Drift “: “ Dare I say it this is another tip-toe into a more progressive-rock realm. The song feels very much a nighttime drive to me, winding empty roads, foreign air creeping in through the window. It’s a song about being humbled by the mind’s ability to lift us up and bring us down. It’s grand, full of longing and bombast, but there is an uneasiness to it too. It never quite resolves. This is going to be HUGE when we play it live!”  Listen below…

As I Try Not To Fall Apart  was recorded at Sleeper Sounds and Assault & Battery studios in West London, and sees long-term collaborator Ed Buller, who has worked on many of their albums including their debut  To Lose My Life… , return to produce several tracks along with Claudius Mittendorfer (Weezer, Panic! At The Disco) also producing and mixing the entire record.

White Lies

White Lies were formed in 2007 by Harry McVeigh, Charles Cave and Jack Lawrence-Brown. Their debut album To Lose My Life... was released in January of 2009 and immediately topped the UK Albums Chart bursting on to the scene with two major singles - 'To Lose My Life' and 'Farewell to the Fairground'. By the beginning of 2011 White Lies release their follow up Ritual, 2013 welcomes the release of Big TV, and Friends drops in 2016. Their intense creative process of regular studio album releases culminates in early 2019 with the release of Five, White Lies' fifth studio album, to both audience and critical acclaim. Harry McVeigh's vocals, often reminiscent of Ian Curtis', commonly draw comparisons to Joy Division, Interpol and Editors by critics, however the White Lies trio highlights Talking Heads, The Secret Machines and The Cars as their most important musical influences. One thing is certain, in barely ten years White Lies have created an enviable body of work and a unique sound, adored by audiences the world over whether at their club shows or festival appearances at Glastonbury, Coachella, Isle Of Whight, Rock Werchter, etc.

White Lies announce 2022 UK tour

white lies band tour 2022

White Lies have today announced details of their forthcoming sixth album, As I Try Not To Fall Apart, which is released on [PIAS] on Friday February 18th 2022.

The band have also shared the title track from the album, talking about which they said:

We wrote this song quickly, late one night, and often the songs which come quickest are written from the gut and the heart, not with the head. We wanted the melody to feel like a hymn, to give the confessional lyrics weight despite being wrapped up as a pop song. It’s about accepting vulnerability as a man, and knowing it’s ok to be broken. There’s never been a more pressing time to spread the message that it’s ok to not be ok.

The track is accompanied by a video directed by James Arden aka The Trash Factory.

Talking about the video he said:

The track made me think of people trying to lift themselves out of emotional spirals – navigating feelings of fragility and fighting everyday pressures just so they can keep it together – and it made me think about how we can be buried and overwhelmed by our feelings and emotions, and how we could explore that, visually

Harry from White Lies added:

Being buried in sand was too mad to pass up. The sensation was really chilling and I was picking sand out of my ears for days, but I’m thrilled with the video, it really carries the message of the song and it looks beautiful.”

Recorded at Sleeper and Assault & Battery studios in West London, the album sees long-term collaborator Ed Buller, who has worked on many of their albums including their debut To Lose My Life…, return to produce several tracks along with Claudius Mittendorfer (Weezer, Panic! At The Disco) also producing and mixing the entire album.

Track-list of As I Try Not To Fall Apart is as follows:

1. Am I Really Going To Die 2. As I Try Not To Fall Apart 3. Breathe 4. I Don’t Want To Go To Mars 5. Step Outside 6. Roll December 7. Ragworm 8. Blue Drift 9. The End 10. There Is No Cure For It

The album can be pre-ordered via https://ffm.to/white_lies_as_i_try_not_to_fall_apart_album

Arguably one of the biggest guitar bands in the UK, White Lies last album, Five, garnered much acclaim in 2019 with a SOLD OUT UK tour including multiple Brixton Academy shows.

Having also released Ritual in 2011, BIG TV in 2013 and Friends in 2016, the past decade has also seen the band establish themselves globally with sold out tours in Europe and beyond, and today they announced details of an extensive run of shows in the spring of next year. Recorded over two studio sessions, As I Try Not To Fall Apart is their most expansive record to date, taking in explosive rock, electro-pop bangers, prog-inspired invention, funk-tinged grooves and some of their most indelible hooks yet.

Working with Mittendorfer, formative versions of swaggering album opener Am I Really Going To Die and the airy rock of the title track were captured, whilst another round of songwriting at Buller’s house ahead of a second recording session really got them firing. “It got us on the same page,” says McVeigh. Soon a coherent album was emerging out of the mist, a record that streamlined everything great about White Lies from across their career: razor-sharp hooks, dark lyrical wit, defiant singalongs, airy soundscapes and dynamic instrumentation.

Throughout they meld their love of pop and prog – opener Am I Really Going To Die features a ruminative lyric on mortality inspired by the 2000 film Ivans Xtc and is one of the funkiest things they’ve ever done, Chic guitars and a lithe bassline building under McVeigh’s quickfire vocals. “Me and Charles are big prog fans,” says McVeigh. The title track, meanwhile, is a euphoric pop gem. “That’s a really important song for us,” says Lawrence-Brown. “I think it will define what the next chapter is. It’s the poppiest thing we’ve ever done.” The rattling stomp of I Don’t Want To Go To Mars was inspired by Elon Musk and the billionaire space race and Blue Drift combines acid-house grooves with widescreen 80s production. There’s a sonic gear change with The End, which sounds like an atmospheric Cure song being sent into space, and There Is No Cure For It – lyrically, a sequel to the opener – ends the record on a soaring, scintillating high.

“We’ll probably never make an album in the way we made this one again,” says Cave. “I think this could be one of our best” says McVeigh. White Lies tested their resolve to get there, but they didn’t fall apart. They have emerged with their most vital collection of songs in years.

White Lies are: Harry McVeigh (vocals / guitar), Charles Cave (bass) & Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). Share this:

White Lies (band)

English post-punk band / from wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, dear wikiwand ai, let's keep it short by simply answering these key questions:.

Can you list the top facts and stats about White Lies (band)?

Summarize this article for a 10 year old

White Lies are an English post-punk revival band from Ealing, London . Formerly known as Fear of Flying , the core band members are Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar ), Charles Cave ( bass guitar and backing vocals), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). [3] The band performs live as a four-piece, [4] when they are joined by Tommy Bowen. [5]

White Lies formed in October 2007, after writing songs that they felt didn't suit their original band. After delaying their first performance for five months to build up media hype, [6] they earned a recording contract with Fiction Records days after their debut. The release of singles " Unfinished Business " and " Death " led to tours and festival appearances in the United Kingdom and North America, including a headline performance at BBC Radio 1 's Big Weekend and a place on the 2009 NME Awards Tour . At the beginning of 2009, White Lies featured in multiple "ones to watch" polls for the coming year, including the BBC 's Sound of 2009 poll and the BRITs Critics' Choice Award.

White Lies' debut album To Lose My Life... , released in January 2009, was a number one hit on the UK Albums Chart . Their second album Ritual was recorded in 2010, and released on 17 January 2011. Big TV , their third studio album was released on 12 August 2013, whilst their fourth, titled Friends , was released 7 October 2016.

‘the idea of you’ team on creating a pop star in nicholas galitzine: “he just made the songs come alive”.

The actor talks about doing boy band bootcamp and looking to do more music in the future: "I feel like I learned a huge amount about myself working on this."

The Idea of You

In 2022, Nicholas Galitzine was on the main stage of “Coachella”, flanked by bandmates Jaiden Anthony, Raymond Cham Jr., Vik White, and Dakota Adan.

Surrounding them were 5,000 screaming fans, chanting at the top of their lungs, “August Moon! August Moon! August Moon!” For most of the guys, who are professional dancers, this was somewhat familiar, they’d performed for much bigger audiences, supporting stars like Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and dancing on national TV. But for Galitzine, this was all brand new.

Related Stories

Events of the week: 'the fall guy,' 'the idea of you' and more, why 'the idea of you' strays from book's ending.

An adaptation of Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, the film follows the whirlwind romance of Galitzine’s character, Hayes Campbell, and Solène Marchand ( Anne Hathaway ), a 40-year-old single mother who meets the August Moon frontman while taking her teenage daughter to Coachella.

Movie magic can transform the Atlanta Motor Speedway parking lot into a festival’s headlining stage; add a massive banner, and bring together enough extras to create a crowd of diehard fans, and the illusion is almost complete. But without solid music — the kind that would really sell the idea of a fandom-worthy international sensation — the cast and crew behind The Idea of You knew the whole thing would crumble.

“We pulled from a lot of different bands for inspiration,” says music supervisor Frankie Pine. “The obvious one was One Direction, but we also talked about Maroon 5, the classic boy bands, but also just the major artists of today.”

Finding the perfect Hayes — a character the author says was inspired by an amalgamation of men, including Prince Harry, Harry Styles and some of her exes — was crucial. Director Michael Showalter and producer Cathy Schulman weren’t just looking for someone who had that instant spark with Hathaway (and Galitzine’s chemistry with the actress is electric), they wanted someone who could sing the film’s original songs himself.

Galitzine had previously shown off his musical abilities in 2021’s Cinderella and in covers he’d posted over the years on YouTube. Once he came in to audition, everything started to come together. “As soon as we heard his voice, it was like, ‘Oh, wow, we’ve really got something here,’” lead songwriter and producer Savan Kotecha recalls.

Kotecha was in the middle of a sabbatical in Sweden when The Idea of You script came his way. “I just started hearing the music,” he says. Kotecha had earned an Oscar nomination for his work on Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga in 2020, but it was his earlier credits that truly sold Showalter and Schulman. A former X Factor vocal coach , Kotecha worked with One Direction , co-writing hits like “What Makes You Beautiful,” and “Kiss You,” as well as penning songs for pop powerhouses like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, and The Weeknd.

He wanted the songs to illustrate August Moon’s evolution from shiny new boy band to radio mainstays. There was “Dance Before We Walk,” their bubbly, “teenybopper-ish” first single; “Taste,” the edgier, sexier track from their sophomore album (“Just tell me where to go,” Galitzine croons. “I’ll be making sure you get there first”); and then tracks like “Guard Down” and “Closer,” that would illustrate the band’s attempts to write songs with more substance and texture.

Galitzine had the singing and romantic chemistry on lock, but there was just one hurdle: “Some of us have been doing prep for the last 15 years of our lives by being professional dancers,” he tells THR , with a laugh, in a recent video interview, pointing to his August Moon bandmates.

The solution was a boy band bootcamp — a few weeks of intensive training working with choreographer Dani Vitale, that also gave the group crucial time to bond. So while Galitzine learned how to perfect the effortless swagger required of a pop star, the others practiced toning down their usual skills. “We had to learn how not to do too much,” says White.

“I just had to learn how not to stick out like a sore thumb,” Galitzine adds. “For me, it was more about creating those little moments with each other on stage, I think that’s what really sells it.”

For the rest of the group, the Coachella scene capped off their time as August Moon, but Galitzine’s work was far from over. With the tracks nearly finalized, the actor flew to Sweden to meet with Kotecha to record lead vocals for the soundtrack. It was a crash course in pop stardom. “We did what we would usually do in three weeks in three days,” Kotecha says. “Nick was such a trooper.”

Without time to train and build a real boy band from scratch, Kotecha and some of his friends and collaborators rounded out the second and backing vocals for August Moon. During these sessions, he got to know Galitzine on walks around the studio, with the actor asking for Kotecha’s insights as someone who had seen these kinds of artists up close.

“He really took it seriously, which was exactly who Hayes Campbell was,” Kotecha says. “That’s what I loved about the character, he had a lot of integrity. He wanted to earn it, and Nick is the same way. He gave everything to this role and to the sessions in Sweden. It wasn’t always easy, but he just made the songs come alive.”

“All those types of things just make him more human,” Kotecha says. “I’ve been close to it a few times, so I know that there are human beings involved, and they all have these internal struggles with impostor syndrome.”

That’s why, for him, the music — even the soundtrack’s most lighthearted bops — didn’t feel like a parody. “I know that the songs that work come from seeds of truth,” Kotecha says, sharing that while “What Makes You Beautiful” became One Direction’s debut single, it was written about his own wife. “Truth always comes through, so I take these bands seriously, because I’ve seen firsthand what they mean to people. They give people a community, and that shouldn’t be a joke.”

Things came easily, at least until it was time to write the film’s title track . “That was the hardest one to crack,” he admits. “I think I built it up in my head, but it was just really important to make it feel different than August Moon.”

“We scurried on and filmed it in a few minutes,” the actor says. “As a Brit, it’s such an iconic show, I was just pinching myself while trying to stay in character, because all of the lines were improvised between me and Graham. It’s such a brief moment, but it had to feel organic. We had to show a maturity and worldliness to Hayes that felt in line with him as an artist.”

With this experience under his belt, Galitzine says the door has been opened to explore more musical opportunities in the future. “I feel like I learned a huge amount about myself working on this,” says Galitzine. “It was an incredibly steep learning curve.” Though he’s not ready to share any specifics, he does tease, “I am setting some things in motion already. I definitely have an eye to the future for this sort of stuff.”
