GHOST Announce First Australian Headline Tour

24 April 2023 The Rockpit

will the band ghost tour australia

One of the world’s most exhilarating and esteemed creative forces, Grammy-winning Swedish theatrical rock band  GHOST  are delighted to announce their first Australian headline tour this October.

Kicking off in Sydney on Tuesday, October 3 at the Hordern Pavilion, the tour will then head down to Melbourne on Wednesday, October 4 at Margaret Court Arena before making its way to Brisbane on Saturday, October 7 at the Riverstage.

In command of well over a billion streams and masters of infectious musical delights, GHOST are a band truly deserving of the word “spectacle”; from their hulking yet glamorous and expertly-crafted sonic output to their otherworldly live performances, GHOST continue to grow their ravenously adoring fanbase, relentlessly luring fans in and beyond the heavier realms with each new release and performance.

Brandishing theatricality with a spellbinding twist on a diverse array of genres, the GHOST mystique and staggering prowess equally flows onstage as well as across five full length albums and multiple EPs, including a brand new covers EP  PHANTOMIME  due out this May. Armed with five tracks that cover classics and deep cuts by Television, Genesis, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden and Tina Turner,  PHANTOMIME  will also ultimately bridge the glistening foundations of the group’s internationally chart-smashing 2022 album  Impera , which debuted at #1 in a sweep of the US album charts.

Helmed over the years by Tobias Forge and an ever-shifting identity as various incarnations of the demonic Papa Emeritus, and briefly as Cardinal Copia, GHOST’s fluctuations also burrow deeply into an ambitious and innovative DNA. Spanning everything from heavy metal to hard rock, doom metal, psychedelic rock, pop and more, GHOST have enamoured and challenged the status quo throughout their career while also sweeping critical acclaim, from their current status generating over 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone to snagging the award for Breakthrough Band at 2012’s Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards and taking out the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016 via their single  Cirice .

Boasting the macabre sensuality by Forge and accompanied by an army of instrumentalists known as Nameless Ghouls, GHOST’s notorious performances gleefully break free of any preconceived notions of a typical live metal show, with confetti cannons, disco lights, a razor-sharp aesthetic and everything in between taking centre stage over the years on both festival runs and gargantuan arena tours. 2023 marks the first headline appearance for Swedish sorcerers – and if you thought you’d seen it all before, prepare yourself for a wild ride like no other this October.

Are you on the square? Are you on the level? Don’t delay, tickets will not last long for what is set to be one of the most anticipated tours of 2023

Ghost Announce First Australian Headline Tour

will the band ghost tour australia

With over a billion streams and a knack for crafting infectious musical delights, GHOST is a band that truly lives up to the term “spectacle.” From their imposing yet elegant and finely-crafted sonic output to their ethereal live performances, the group continues to grow their fan base and captivate audiences with each new release and show. Their brand of theatricality incorporates a mesmerizing twist on a range of genres, and the GHOST mystique and breathtaking skill is evident both on stage and across their five full-length albums and multiple EPs, including their upcoming covers EP, PHANTOMIME , set to release this May.

PHANTOMIME will feature five tracks covering classic and deep cuts by Television, Genesis, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden, and Tina Turner. The EP will also serve as a bridge between the group’s internationally chart-topping 2022 album Impera, which debuted at #1 on various US album charts.

Led by Tobias Forge and the ever-changing identities of the demonic Papa Emeritus and, briefly, Cardinal Copia , GHOST’s evolution is rooted in their ambitious and innovative DNA, spanning heavy metal, hard rock, doom metal, psychedelic rock, pop, and beyond. Throughout their career, they have challenged the status quo and garnered critical acclaim, boasting over 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, winning Breakthrough Band at the 2012 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, and earning the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016 for their single, “Cirice.”

With Forge’s macabre sensuality and a legion of instrumentalists known as Nameless Ghouls , GHOST’s infamous shows boldly break free from the confines of a traditional metal concert. Over the years, their performances have featured confetti cannons, disco lights, and a razor-sharp aesthetic, captivating audiences on festival runs and massive arena tours. This Australian tour marks the band’s first-ever headlining appearance, promising a wild ride like no other in October.

GHOST – Gig Review & Photo Gallery 3rd October @ Qudos Bank Arena, Syd NSW

GHOST Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney NSW October 3, 2023 Support: Southeast Desert Metal

I should have bought shares in black eyeliner, fishnet stockings, pink hair dye and nun dresses ahead of last night’s show.

It’s an hour before doors and you’d think, given the doom and gloom attire sported by the thousands of Ghost fans conjuring outside of Qudos Arena, that they’d be a miserable lot. But after striking up conversation with a handful of them, you’d have to excuse me for thinking that I’m actually talking to a bunch of Swifty’s decked out in black dresses and corpse paint. This long line of mostly young women are beyond excited to be here and their dedication to Papa Emeritus IV and his group of Nameless Ghouls is to be commended.

While waiting for the ample security to let us in, I talked to the front group in the queue and discovered they’d been here since 5am. A few of them actually got here last night to line up but were shooed away by security and told to come back at 6am. Without the means to front for a hotel room in Sydney at short notice (an expensive venture to be sure) the girls opted to sleep in the park opposite the arena on what was, by all accounts, a nice warm night. Does it all sound mental? It absolutely does, but such is the passion these young fans have for this band and their music.

will the band ghost tour australia

After finally getting inside, I grab a beer and head to the arena floor to watch openers Southeast Desert Metal. Touted as the most isolated heavy metal band in the world, this proud aboriginal band from Ltyentye Apurte, Northern Territory headed out onto the massive stage, lay the aboriginal flag out behind the drums and hit the ground running. With heaps of low end and a shed load of volume, these guys get a rousing applause from a massively excited crowd. They have a bouncing chug in their guitar that reminds me of Iron Maiden . Let it be known that these blokes can shred as shown during the song ‘Spirit Woman’. This very excited crowd get right behind the lads and one tall bloke in an Airbourne shirt bunkers down and starts headbanging like it’s 1985. They go to finish up before being faced with a sea of “one more song” chants because let’s face it, they have been unreal. They rip in and it’s fair to say that Southeast Desert Metal have earned themselves a few more fans today.

On the way to the bar, I notice that there are a LOT of kids walking around with their parents. There are dads who lined up all day with their teenage daughters in the beating down sunshine who wished that they’d brought an esky with them. It fills my heart to see heavy metal become a generational activity. Take Frankie for example. She’s 8 and this is her first show ever. I ask her dad Aaron, 33 if his folks ever brought him to a rock show? “FUCK NO!!!” replied Aaron, before apologising to Frankie for his language.

I also meet Elliot, a 4-year-old who is camped out at the front of the pit with his mum and dad. Elliot’s favourite song is ‘Zombie Queen’ and he also likes Metallica. Then I run into Daniel Silk from local legends Red Bee. He is here with his young daughter who, despite not even being 10 yet, is an old hand at this whole live music thing. Then when I think the kids can’t get any younger I spot a bloke walking about with a newborn strapped to his front. I could have brought my 3-year-old son and also won parent of the year alongside all these stone-cold legends passing down the brilliance of heavy metal.

It also occurs to me that despite having travelled down under on several occasions for music festivals, this is Ghost’s first full headlining full stage tour and given the NSW Government’s restrictions for music festivals to be strictly 18+, this is the first chance that most have these fans have had to see this mob live. The growing popularity of this band is also exemplified by venue upgrades at all three of their Australian shows.

A big white sheet covers the front of the stage as Gregorian-styled vocal chants ring through the speakers and I got flashbacks from my Catholic upbringing. The lights dim and the largely female audience squeal with the volume of 10,000 corpse-painted Taylor Swift fans. I look down and see a 9-year-old who can’t see the stage for shit and I suggest to her dad to put her on his shoulders. Turns out that security have banned that as well, under penalty of being thrown out.

‘Imperium’ plays through the speakers as the big white hankie drops and the Nameless Ghouls emerge playing the opening riffs to ‘Kaisarion’. The kids in the pit go berserk as Papa Emeritus IV emerges and says “Hello Australia”. The whole arena collectively loses their minds as they rip through ‘Rats’, ‘From The Pinnacle To The Pit’ and ‘Spillways’. It’s only early in the set and there are already a few bodies being carried out by security. I just hope it’s not my mates that have been here since 5am. It’s a long wait to hear only 3 or 4 songs.

This stage set is incredible. The backdrop alone resembles the front of an old gothic European church with all the grace of what Notre Dame used to have, with changing stained glass windows that have some of the coolest visuals I’ve seen on any stage. With the huge drum riser protruding from the centre of the stage, the insane light show and the interactions between Emeritus and his Nameless Ghouls, this production carries all the weight of something like Phantom Of The Opera but with a way better soundtrack.

will the band ghost tour australia

All eyes are locked on Papa himself as he prances about the stage looking like the The Joker from The Batman ’66 TV series, only dressed in a silver suit and slathered in corpse paint. Despite not being the wildest frontman I’ve ever seen there’s no denying the presence he has on stage as he rips through belters such as ‘Cirice’, ‘Absolution’ and ‘Ritual’

But that’s not to say that the nameless ghouls are a bunch of statues on stage. Despite not saying a bloody word, these guys are hilarious and their body language is killer. As they tear through a 16-song set including ’ Year Zero’, ‘Miasma’ and Mummy Dust’, they absolutely SHRED and as they close out the main portion of the performance with ‘Respite on the Spitalfields’ it all becomes clear to me. As a casual listener of Ghost, I never understood the extreme fascination a lot of their fans have, but now, after seeing them live in this capacity, I absolutely get it.

One fake encore later where Papi negotiates with the punters on hand the number of songs that will be played in the encore, and Ghost destroys with ‘Kiss the Go-Goat’, the try-not-to-boogie-along-witchu ‘Dance Macabre’ and their massive closer ‘ Square Hammer’. Big Papa Em struts around like Christopher Walken cosplaying as a silver-clad corpse-painted Elvis and I wish church was like this growing up.

The band farewells the audience with explosions of gold confetti and falling fireworks and Ghost ’s first ‘real outing in Australia’ finishes with a bang. There are smiles on every dial as we all leave and only a small handful of kids that are asleep on their parent’s shoulders. A monumental night. Well worth the wait to see this full Ghost production.

More Ghost

Ghost  have been one of the most successful bands in hard rock and heavy metal spaces since 2013. Of course, the Swedish band’s growth took time – it wasn’t until 2015, when they released their third album, Meliora , that they crash-landed at #8 on the US Billboard  200. The album debuted at #20 in Australia.

Ghost are a true spectacle: part rock band and part performance art. The band have become one of the most influential acts in metal today.

Helmed over the years by Tobias Forge and an ever-shifting identity as various incarnations of the demonic Papa Emeritus, and briefly as Cardinal Copia, Ghost’s fluctuations also burrow deeply into an ambitious and innovative story arc.

Spanning everything from heavy metal to hard rock, doom metal, psychedelic rock, pop and more, Ghost have never stuck to the script, creating a new world for their fans to explore and gathering a loyal following of over 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

The band were awarded Breakthrough Band at 2012's Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards and took out the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016 with their single Cirice . Last week, they won the Swedish Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album for last year's Impera .

In 2018, Ghost released Prequelle  and were nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Greta Van Fleet took home the award with From The Fires . While Ghost’s fifth album, Impera , was released last March, the record was ultimately delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The album hit #2 in the US and #3 in Australia.

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Last September, the B-side to the Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic,  Mary On A Cross, went viral on TikTok after a user uploaded a slowed-down, reverb-heavy version of the song to the social media platform. An unexpected breakout hit, Ghost suddenly featured on over 300,000 TikTok videos and burst onto the Billboard  Hot 100.

The band’s enigmatic singer and songwriter, Tobias Forge, or as you may know him, Papa Emeritus IV, was shocked by the turn of events. “I was aware of its [the app’s] existence, and I've heard people whisper in my ear for a few years that we’ve got to do this, we’ve got to be on TikTok, blah, blah, blah. I'm just not really interested,” he admits over Zoom. “I’m old; I've never been interested in social media.”

Forge continues, “I don't have room in my life for social media. That would be an intrusion into my life that would disturb me. So, therefore, I've never fully understood it. I had to quickly learn what it meant as the Mary On A Cross thing happened.” Of course, as an older adult who’s never had space in his life for social media, Forge has no idea what the allure of TikTok is.

“My first experience with that app and similar apps was through my 14-year-old kid,” he shares, “So I was always wondering, why do you listen to 20 seconds of a song? Like, that's crazy. I understand listening to one song on the record, but not 20 seconds of it. And then I understood, ‘Okay, that's the format; you just listen to a snippet’. But it [TikTok] works as a commercial campaign tool, and you get people pushed in different ways. For a brief while, we had people being pushed in our direction and that has definitely changed a lot of things for us.

“So, no complaints here. I can't complain about it. I think it's fabulous. So, if it works that way, I think it's phenomenal. I don't really understand how you create something like that yourself, because I know that our phenomenon was completely organic. We didn't do anything about it; it was completely the kids themselves that did that.”

Where Forge has an issue with TikTok, and social media in general, is when it’s weaponised by people who target young, impressionable people online. “When you're trying to fucking destroy the world and you're trying to cut people's rights back and turn people against each other and then strip away women's rights to control their own bodies, then I think it's a fucking disaster,” he states. And that belief and observation bled directly into Ghost’s cover of a Genesis  song that would have been considered dated just ten years ago.

“It’s frighteningly horrible. It's easy not to laugh about the accuracy in which Phil Collins wrote a lyric that ten years ago felt almost dated, even outdated, which now feels so contemporary and important,” Forge says about the band’s motivation in covering Jesus He Knows Me .

He continues, “When we started touring America, I was asked so many times, ‘Do you have a problem with the Christian fundamentalists or picket fencers or any of that stuff?’ I was like, ‘No, never.’ Like, there seems to be a sort of undercurrent of that stuff over there. I didn’t see that, we were all over the place, even in the South, and definitely a lot in the heartland.

“My impression of those cities is just wonderful, a lot of nice people who come to rock shows, and they're super friendly, and everything is just fucking dandy. And then, obviously, the last five or six years, the people are still the same, I still feel that they're in the same climate. But obviously, parallel to that, there is this complete Flat Earth cult that has just decided to throw in the towel. I don’t know what their aim is.”

But, like all cults, Forge acknowledges that if these leaders have a lot of followers, “I cannot neglect to underline the fact that the followers, they are people who don't know better. I pity them – they are being used and humiliated and the leaders are just completely exploiting them,” he explains. Worse, he says, is that it’s just a grift attempting to pressure impressionable people into handing over their money.

Forge adds, “The exchange is supposed to be: 'Give me money, and I will give you the past back'. Look, I'm a nostalgic person as well. I wish it was 1985, too, believe me. But if anyone would come to me and say that, 'If you pay me $1 or $10 – anything you can spare, and I will give you 1985 back,' I would know you're lying. You're obviously lying. You're obviously telling me something that is not true. But yeah, such is the world now.

“You never reach the status quo. Unfortunately, the pendulum swings and sometimes you're in the shitter and sometimes the opposite side, that's how it's always been,” he says. Time and trends, belief systems and music, all move in circles. “That's the horrid thing about the shit that they're trying to sell you, especially when they're trying to sell it as some sort of religion sandwich because they're telling you that the world is linear, and time is linear.

“In this case, they're talking about heaven or hell,” Forge notes, but “That is not how it really works. Everything else in this world is circular. So why wouldn't that also be circular? That's the true essence of evil – tricking people into believing something in order to get something out of them and trying to sell them salvation.”

Forge features on Under The Spell , a track from Darski’s solo album, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit: Vol. 2,  under the moniker Me And That Man . The Behemoth frontman has faced trouble in his native Poland numerous times. Last May, was acquitted of blasphemy charges in his home country in a win against censorship in art.

“We're friends, so he [Darski] very simply just asked me [to collaborate] and then we did what we could in the midst of Covid,” Forge shares. “It was a miracle that we actually ended up being in the same room together at that point. He came to Stockholm and we hung out for a couple of days. Absolutely, we have a kinship. Our backgrounds are very similar – at least pop-culturally – he grew up in the 80s in Poland, which at that point was behind the Iron Curtain. Obviously, there's a difference there.”

But in terms of pop culture and who they are, Forge notes, “Our backgrounds are very similar. We started playing death metal, black metal, that sort of stuff. And then we've both achieved careers within music. He's obviously very entrepreneurial with all of his side ventures, which I’m not really able to match. I don't do a whole lot of things that he does, professionally, but in so many ways, we are very similar in what we do and what we value about life and how we value life. At least, in practical philosophical things, I believe that we're similar.”

The last time that both Behemoth and Ghost were in Australia was for the short-lived Download Festival in 2019 . Neither headlined the days in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, but the curiosity of Ghost certainly drew crowds to their tent while headliners Slayer  were performing. This October, the Swedes will return to Australia for their first-ever headline run in the country.

The headline tour will be very different to what fans remember from Ghost’s Download appearances, “The biggest difference between this time and the previous times that we've been there is that we're bringing a full production,” Forge says. An album and a half would have been released by the time the band lands down under, and that obviously means songs they haven’t played in Australia before making the setlist.

“Last time, we played a festival – I don't remember the exact length of the show, but we probably shaved off a lot of material that we would have been able to play,” he adds. “I don't want to, in hindsight, posthumously kill any memories of what people have seen when we have been there before, but we haven't really done a proper show in Australia. That's the thing; we've never really done that. I think that what you're finally getting is a real Ghost show.”

Ghost are touring across Australia this October. Tickets are available via  Destroy All Lines .

Live reviews

Ghost are, regardless of whether you're particularly into corpse painted, Satanic-inspired heavy metal, one band that you should not miss live. Their concerts are not simply events to watch but experiential, jaw-dropping journeys to embark upon, and here's why: The Swedish sextet, clad in black hooded gowns and pointed beard-masks (yes, this is a thing) are led by their singer, known as Papa Emeritus, who dons full skull make-up and the robes and hat of a Roman Catholic pope (aside from the upside-down crosses adorning them). As well as their appearances, the band add to the intoxicating atmosphere of their shows with a backdrop of faux stained glass windows, and burn incense to give the audience the impression of being in a church, about to undergo something more than simply watching a group of men play musical instruments on a stage. They achieve this by including the audience in their twisted act, for example during the song Body and Blood, scantily-clad women appeared at the front of the stage offering the 'Eucharist' of a goblet of blood (aka wine) to the lucky fans in the front row.

I saw Ghost at the Fillmore Silver Spring, shorty after the release of their highly anticipated second album, Infestissumam, and was, frankly, blown away by the quality of their live show. Their appearances and Satan-worshipping act are contrasted by the liveliness of their music, which while categorized as heavy or black metal, is definitely more riff and vocal-driven than most metal, with songs such as the single Monstrance Clock and even an amped-up cover of the Beatles' Here Comes The Sun as part of their catchy, dancable set.

Even if you are the biggest metal-phobe around, you should go see Ghost. If heavy metal is your jam, but you're really not into the whole make-up/ crazy outfit thing, you should go see Ghost. If you're a fan or the music but are undecided on paying for a ticket, you should most definitely go see Ghost. The entire experience is something intoxicatingly unforgettable, and you will not regret it!

The wife and I got into the game a bit late but Ghost is as much a part of our yearly plans as is eating, sleeping, and hydrating. We were fortunate to have caught their last two rituals in Sweden last year and were able to capture video of Papa III being pulled off stage during Monstrance Clock. We were so happy that we made the trip from the states because seeing the end of Papa III in videos is nothing compared to the excitement of seeing it in person, from the barrier, and right up front. This band is very exciting to watch and being able to share the experience with my wife has made our evenings with Ghost that much better. My wife met Papa III last year and we've had the opportunity to meet Cardinal Copia 3 times this year during the meet and greets in New York and Pittsburgh. We're looking forward to meeting him again 4 more times out of the 6 rituals we'll be attending in December. We also already have our tickets and vacation planned for the 2 upcoming rituals taking place in Sweden in February 2019. When they make their way back to the states in 2019, we will begin planning our schedules around their tour dates. Here's a short back story as to why they are so important to me. My wife and I were just a couple of months away from signing the official court documents stating we were divorced. While trying to keep things amicable we would meet to discuss things and we'd often listen to Ghost. By the time they would be coming Philadelphia that year, we would have been attending as two single individuals and no longer married. We'd have fun listening to them and as that common ground grew stronger, so did we and slowly began reconciling. By the time they did come to Philadelphia that year, we attended as a happily married couple and continue to do so today. Getting my wife back, I can honestly say, is all thanks to Ghost and I couldn't be more grateful to them or happier sharing the experience with anyone else except for Kelly.

The concert at Liseberg amusement Park was amazing. They opened doors at 11:00 am and there was already like 30 people waiting for the concert impatiently. Security guards and workers of the Amusement Park were very nice and help people when there was an incident outside the park.

The concert started at 8:00 pm without any problem, the crowd went crazy when they went on stage. The setlist was the following:

- Square Hammer

- From the Pinnacle to the Pit

- Elizabeth

- Con clavi con Dio

- Per aspera ad Inferi

- Body and Blood

- Devil Church

- Year Zero

- Spokosonat

- Absolution

- Deus in Absentia

- Monstrance Clock.

At the end of the last show was when 2 bodyguards came on stage and dragged Papa Emeritus III from stage and Papa Emeritus Zero came in, anouncing that the party was over and a new era was about to start.

I only got into Ghost recently and caught their show last night in Toronto.

I decided to get some cheap tickets because I liked the music and thought they'd be fun to see live.

They by far exceeded anything I was expecting. The creepy church vibe, use of incense(which I have never encountered before, very nice touch!), Papa engaging the audience at every opportunity and even took a few minutes just to chit chat and kept us roaring and laughing for more. The use of costumes and masks was amazing.

Being an introvert I don't really go out much, and when I do I just kind of sit there and enjoy the music and the show. This is the first band that's made me get up from my chair and actually get into the show. Next time they come to the area, I'm definitely saving up and treating myself to WAY better seating!

Oh my Ghost, this is the live ritual gig experience your soul is crying out for. Full disclaimer: I love Ghost to bits and have been preaching my dark passion for years. Seeing them live again - this time in a bigger arena off the back of a couple more hit albums - reaffirms the faith.

Go and see Ghost and you will get a diverse setlist drawn from the band's spectacular back catalogue. You will get theatrics and pyrotechnics. You will get both humour and deep emotion, dark anthems and sublime instrumentals and an uplifting sense that you a witnessing something novel and special.

Ghost are - musically, aesthetically, spiritually - something to cherish and the live experience is one that is fun, compelling, cathartic and oh-so-damn-rock-n-roll. Go worship and have the time of your (after)life.

I can see Ghost every night and never get bored. It's not just the band and music, Tobias has created characters, including his own, for this band that are incredibly humble and patient with their fans. While the material can be considered risque, you will see children younger than 10 years old attending that are not only having the time of their lives, but participating in the meet and greets with their parents. Everything about these shows from the music, to the costumes, the characters, and the theatrics is so very much entertaining. We know as fans that there is so much more to look forward to with the future of Ghost and we'll have the opportunity to enjoy them for many more years. It is very exciting when tomorrow becomes today and you're standing in front eagerly awaiting Ashes to start.

If you have Ghost, you have everything.

Theatre; spectacle; a sense of cult worship; dark humour; thick fugs of incense; electric, otherwordly energy; lighting and atmospherics; collective frenzy; and most of all, the sweet music of the night.

Ghost are beautiful for so many reasons. Beneath their sublime subversive style - iconoclastic and gleefully irreverent - is a musical powerhouse making the most compelling and catchy rock in this epoch. The craftsmanship is incredible. The mystique is immense. It's a joy to behold in the flesh (and blood) and if you have the opportunity to absorb the spirit of Ghost in person, surrender to it.

Honestly, Ghost was one of the greatest entertainment experiences I've had. Join them in their ritual and hail your Master...

This was the best show I have ever been to (I have seen a lot too). Ghost put on an electric performance with great theatrics as well as fun conversational bits while the musicians took a couple minutes to get water, wipe the sweat off from under those masks, etc. We were also delighted by the pyrotechnics, fog machines, and surprise mummy dust confetti! Well executed and the band sounded amazing live. I wish I had gotten tickets for the following night too! I will definitely be seeing them when they come back into town. Ghost really knows how to stimulate all their fans' senses. Many thanks to the band for their commitment to their fans and the melodic tunes they share with us. Keep them coming please!!!

The Ghost show was truly amazing. For me, this was mainly due to two things:

1. Each and every member of this band knows his instrument very well, and they play their songs flawlessly and with ease. Leaving them energy to interact with the crowd while still not missing a note/beat.

2. Their concept is so well thought through. From the incense and small unveiling ritual before their set starts to the sisters of sin and perfected visual in set, movements and costumes, everything works brilliantly. And with Papa giving some background info to songs and rituals, you really get the feeling you are part of a well-oiled ritual.

I am very glad I've been to the show, and can't wait to see this band again :)

Awesome band! I had a older friend come with last night to the Stockholm show and even thou she said "It's not exactly my favourite but it was a terrific show, tunes to sing along to and this isn't the last time we do this!" with a huge smile on her face. This was my second Ritual, i love the costume changes, you really feel like your seeing a theatrical show instead of a regular concert, I'm use to sitting up front but this time sat in the balcony to see a spectacular light show and pyrotechnics, we sat in the upper balcony and could feel the heat from the pyro effects.I only wish i could have been yp front closer to Cardinal Copia,to get his blessings. Will not be the last time i go to see Ghost!

See first teaser for upcoming GHOST feature film

ghost 2023 kia forum PROMO, Ryan Chang

Ghost have just revealed the first taste of their long-promised feature film , and the 30 seconds we've seen so far are whimsically cinematic.

A quick teaser clip was posted over socials this morning (April 4th), and it finds Ghost frontman Tobias Forge taking a bow and performing a few spin moves on a moodily-lit concert stage. There's also a super strange split-second moment of a lady standing in front of what looks like a green-screened subway station.

As you can see below, we're then faced with word that the as-yet untitled project will be "coming soon to cinemas worldwide."

Last fall, it was confirmed that the band had filmed their two-night stint at The Forum in Inglewood, California, with the professionally-shot concert footage set to be integrated into "something else."

"It's going to be a film with a concert element," Forge said at the time. "So a lot of what you experienced [at the two L.A. shows] is going to be part of this project."

While no further details have been revealed around the plot of the untitled Ghost movie, the group have been contemplating a cinematic project since 2019. Forge told us back then that it was too early for Ghost to go the traditional bio-pic route.

"Most films about bands are biographical, and I see no reason to tell our story yet," he said. "It's a little bit like premature ejaculation. You have to have a career first and then you can tell the real story, so that was never an option. And when you yank away that, what do you have? Well, that would be a fictional story."

Stay tuned for more details surely coming soon.

GHOST Shares First Teaser For Upcoming Movie

GHOST has shared the first teaser for the band's film project.

According to the 30-second spot, which can be seen below, the movie will be "coming soon to cinemas worldwide".

Last October, GHOST leader Tobias Forge confirmed that footage from the band's September 2023 two shows at the Forum in Inglewood, California will be used as part of the film.

"When I first started putting it together, I was, like, 'Oh my god, I'm going to faint because there's so much to think about,'" Forge told Metal Hammer magazine. "Then it was, like, 'No, no, just don't think about it at all.'"

Both GHOST shows at the Forum were device-free experiences. Use of phones and smart watches was not permitted in the performance space. Upon arrival at the venue, devices were secured in individual Yondr pouches that were opened at the end of the event.

"I have never seen a crowd interact the way that they did since I was in a club band," Forge said. "They were the best shows I've ever done with GHOST , just because I didn't have to see those fucking mobile phones."

Tobias went on to say that GHOST was "essentially shooting a film. And we used two nights of crowds as extras," he explained. "It's going to be a film with a concert element. So a lot of what you experienced [at the two L.A. shows] is going to be part of this project."

Tobias was also asked if the GHOST film will be similar to METALLICA 's "Through The Never" , which starred members of the iconic rock band and Dane DeHaan ( "Chronicle" , "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" ). DeHaan played a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down. Forge replied: "In the sense that it's a concert with something else combined."

At the Forum shows, GHOST performed the song "Twenties" live for the very first time live. They also played their cover of Roky Erikson 's "If You Have Ghosts" , which was originally reimagined by GHOST for their 2013 EP "If You Have Ghost" . The band's version of the track at the Forum featured two cellists with a piano playing, and it was performed on a separate stage from the rest of the set.

Back in 2019, Forge told Revolver that there was a GHOST feature film in the works. He added, however, that this wouldn't be your typical "rockumentary" or even a concert film, but something else entirely.

"Most films about bands are biographical, and I see no reason to tell our story yet," Forge said. "It's a little bit like premature ejaculation. You have to have a career first and then you can tell the real story, so that was never an option. And when you yank away that, what do you have? Well, that would be a fictional story."

When Forge spoke to Revolver about the GHOST film four years ago, he explained that it would be a while before the project came to fruition.

"The cog wheels are turning on that one," he said. "We're just trying to figure out a lot of the practicalities. Making a film is a big endeavor. Another problem that I have had over the course of my career is that I don't have a shit-ton of time. I've learned over the years that it's really important not to do everything at once."
