Your car's engine oil, or motor oil, lubricates and cools the internal parts of your engine. Not only does motor oil help your engine operate more smoothly, but it also helps to suspend and remove contaminants with the help of the oil filter. Some motor oils even condition seals and feature other additives to prolong engine life. With time and use, your motor oil can become contaminated or may oxidize or break down, reducing its ability to lubricate and protect your engine. Oil degradation is the main reason regular oil changes are so important, and can help increase your car's performance and engine health. Your manufacturer will specify the oil change interval, oil type, and weight for your specific vehicle, and this information can be found in your car's owner's manual. If you have an oil leak or if your engine burns oil, it may be necessary to add more oil between oil changes. Low oil levels will trigger your oil pressure warning light and can cause damage to your engine, in addition to decreased performance. If your oil is extremely contaminated, worn, or low, you may also notice metallic noises from the engine while it is running indicating that it is experiencing dangerous friction. When you're ready for your next oil change, pick up conventional or synthetic oil and an oil filter from O'Reilly Auto Parts, where we carry the types and weights of oil recommended for your vehicle. If you'd like more resources for a DIY oil change , visit our How-To Hub for content like how to choose the right motor oil , what causes engine sludge , and much more.

Seattle, WA. Dec 21, 2010. #1. I just bought a smallish RV with a Ford V10 under the hood. The oil filler cap states 5w-20 oil is recommended, however this seems pretty thin to me for such a hard working engine. I was thinking of going with Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, any thoughts on this? B.

  16. V 10 ford 6.8 oil loss / pcv issue

SwampSurvivor. The oil filter adapter on many of the V10's, tends to suddenly leak and deplete the engine's oil. Take a very good look at yours. Roman Abramovich was governor of Chukotka from 2000 to 2008. 23. 2000 V10

The usual suspects! Plus the oil cooler. I would start by removing and inspecting the oil cooler because that would be an easy and cheap fix. If you were the luckiest person in the world, then it would be the problem. The V10 uses a liquid to liquid intercooler right above the oil filter. Coolant flows through one circuit, oil through the other.
