More About Utah Backpacking Trips
The magic of backpacking in southern utah.
Southern Utah is a backpacking paradise. It’s a dramatic landscape rich with natural phenomena, wide open spaces, vast wilderness, hidden canyons, desert oases, wildlife, and fascinating history. To leave the busy roads and walkways and head into the backcountry of Utah is to step into a new, spacious world rich with experiential treasures. The night skies on a Utah backpacking trip are mind-blowing, with the Milky Way clearer and more vibrant than many people have ever seen. There’s something magical about hiking for days to reach a landmark like an arch, or a waterfall, or a natural bridge that, if in the front country, would have a parking lot and hundreds of people stopping to see it. But in the backcountry we have it all to ourselves – it doesn’t get any better than that!
WHICH NATIONAL PARK OR AREA IS BEST FOR MY BACKPACKING TRIP?
Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park don’t allow guided backpacking, so that’s easy enough to make a decision on those areas. That leaves us with Grand Staircase-Escalante, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Paria Slot Canyons. Grand Staircase-Escalante is great for people who want to do shorter trips (3-5 days) with stunning scenery. Capitol Reef is a longer journey (6 days) into a wild, remote wilderness that’s great for guests looking to really get out and explore on a longer adventure. Canyonlands backpacking trips are 4-5 days in length, are moderate in difficulty, and feature classic Utah highlights like arches, springs, Native American history and more. And Paria Canyon is home to the longest slot canyon in the world, so if slot canyons are your thing, then that’s the place to go.
THE WILDLAND TREKKING BACKPACKING EXPERIENCE
To begin with, our Utah backpacking guides are some of the best out there! Ultimately it’s the guide that makes or breaks a guided backpacking trip, and for this reason we take incredible care to make sure we hire the right people, train them well, and treat them well so they stay with us for years. On top of that our guided Utah backpacking trips are all-inclusive, so guests don’t have to worry about traveling with supplies, renting gear, worrying about permits…etc. We take care of nearly everything! You can expect to learn a lot about the area you’re hiking into – natural and cultural interpretation is a major focus of our guide preference and training.
What If I Want to Camp But Not Backpack?
If you’re interested in an outdoor experience of Utah , and possibly even sleeping in the backcountry but you don’t want to do a backpacking trip, we have some great solutions for you! First and foremost, we recommend looking at our llama treks . These trips are backcountry hiking and camping experiences, but with lighter backpacks than on backpacking trips, and there is the added novelty of getting to hike with llamas!
Another option is our Utah basecamp tours . These trips are based in established campgrounds and feature hikes each day to amazing national park and wilderness destinations. All gear, meals and transportation is provided so you can relax and focus 100% on the hiking and camping experience .

Meet Your Hosts
Roger and Jamie Eggett will be your hosts as you experience some of the greatest snowmobiling the world has to offer. We know this sounds like a lofty claim, but we believe it to be true. The Cabins at Bear River Lodge has been our family-owned and operated business since we acquired it in 1997. Snowmobiling has come a long way since those early days. When we first started renting snow machines and guiding snowmobile tours in 1997, our typical snowmobile was a 500cc machine with a 136" long track with one-inch lugs and sporting about 70 horsepower. Today, we ride the Ski-Doo Summit 850cc and 600cc machines as our primary machines. The Summit 850 has a 165" long track with 3" lugs and about 165 horsepower. We often say that these machines will take us where we shouldn't go, faster than we should get there. Join us and let us help you Make Memories to Last a Lifetime.
Please contact Roger directly to book your all-inclusive snowmobile getaway.

Hiking Utah's Mighty 5
Thank you Charlie and G Adventures. The experience of the Big 5 in Utah was everything I thought it would be. Indescribable scenery, perfect length in each day's activities and I was fortunate to travel with a great bunch of like minded tourists. To G Adventures, you need to clone Charlie. A knowledgeable and outstanding CEO.

Mighty 5 From Las Vegas
Mighty Five is an excellent tour for the money. Our guide, Vicky, was knowledgeable, accommodating and as sweet as the pie we enjoyed at Capital Reef. We had a wonderfully magical experience in each park and a small friendly group. The walking/hiking activities are optional and for all levels of fitness. Transportation was comfortable, but often long, so be prepared. Hotels/motels were clean and convenient, and can be far from good options. Moab was the only stop with numerous food options. My advice would be to find a market and purchase some portable emergency food if you need it. All motels have microwaves and refrigerators. Lastly, tip your guide well, at least $25 per day, and if you are a couple that means each!
Mighty 5 From Salt Lake City
I would like to add that the communication between tour radar and us was poor. No notice of change of first night hotel was passed on to us and the start n finish dates are not discussed AT all. It is really a 6 day tour not 8 day tour as advertised. Other than that Southwest Tours were fantastic it was tour radar that let us down.
Utah Parks Circuit
We did this trip during the government strike in 2013 which meant all the National Parks were closed. Intrepid did a WONDERFUL job mitigating the situation and we still got to go camping and hiking at some select state parks. Luckily, the Grand Canyon was re-opened before our trip ended which was awesome. What a finale! Thank You Intrepid for giving us an awesome itinerary despite the challenges.

Zion and Bryce Lodge Based Tour
THis was my first trip with Wildland Trekking and I had no idea how challenging the terrain and hikes would be. As it turned out, everything was well within the ability of the five of us in the group. Our guide prepared us each evening for the day ahead so that we could anticipate with pleasure what lay ahead. When the going got tough, Craig encouraged and distracted us! He also prepared delectable lunches on the trail that fueled us for the rest of the day. Craig is a seasoned guide....well informed about flora, fauna, and the geology of the area' and excellent company in general. All in our group were ready to sign up for another lodge based trip after this excellent experience with Wildland Trekking. I was also very impressed with the attention to safety and other details such as good meals and nice accommodations.

Hiking Utah's National Parks
Prior to the start of my tour radar trip, it was difficult to communicate or ask questions. Once I met to tour guide Ally it was an excellent experience. Ally was information on the next step and reviewed what was needed on a daily basis. The schedule was busy, the hikes were mostly moderate as expected… She was able to direct all hikers on the trails. She assured that I was always able to complete each trail. We instructed to have and were prepared with plenty of water,

Utah's Mighty Five National Parks (10 Days)
This was my first time going on a group tour. I was a little concerned that traveling with a group might be difficult dealing with 32 different personalities. The group was wonderful, we had great camaraderie, everyone was very inclusive. Our tour guide randy was awesome. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful with directing us to the variety of hikes that we could choose. Michael was wonderful and our bus driver Russell was awesome. Overall it was a wonderful experience and would consider doing another group tour.

What people love about utah tours.
the best way to explore the vastness and glory of the Utah desert is by camping and hiking in small groups. I enjoyed this trip immensely, it was challenging enough but not too much. Our guide was a brave and resourceful powerful woman. I am planning my next trip with you already!
Just couldn’t have been better. Extremely professional guides Robin and Sarah were highly knowledgable, friendly and organised. Accomodation was excellent in every location (most hotels even had hot tubs and pools!) and the food options were always good. Lovely comfortable Mercedes minibus. Highly recommended to everyone - would do another tour with South West Adventure Tours in a heartbeat.
Guide was knowledgeable and helpful. It was a good group
