Amazing Animal Journeys
Jennifer cossins, amazing animal journeys , lothian children’s books, october 2022, 64 pp., rrp $26.99 (hbk), isbn 9780734421432 .
Award winning Tasmanian artist Jennifer Cossins’ recent title is the nonfiction Amazing Animal Journeys. It targets middle-grade children and would be ideal in school libraries and home school studies. Cossins’ digital illustrations include bold colours and dynamic spreads across two pages. Although it is text heavy with the introduction and three-page conclusion on climate change, it brings valuable lessons to students.
She advocates for human action to support reducing climate change from eating less meat and dairy products to decreasing land clearing and collecting rubbish on the beach so that migrating sea turtles don’t accidently eat the plastic. Other simple tips that have been touted for years also get a mention such as turning off taps to save water.
Details about each animal—some of whom will be familiar but not others – needs attentiveness. However, the pleasure in discovering new animal life inspires interest and inquisitiveness. The migrations of animals, birds and insects are an informative and vibrant way for readers aged seven and above.

Amazing Animal Journeys
The Most Incredible Migrations in the Natural World
Philippa Forrester
A fascinating and detailed look at the incredible journeys that occur in the animal kingdom
Join animals on epic adventures, and travel through the natural world with them.
Across the world, billions of animals are embarking on incredible journeys. Many are in search of food, some are looking for a mate, lots are heading to a warmer climate, and others are just seeking a new home.
Follow the mass migrations of entire species with amazing facts and maps that tell the stories of nature's most amazing journeys. Discover the record-breaking flight of the Arctic Tern, who travels from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back every year, the sharks that follow plankton for enormous distances from the ocean depths to the surface from night to day, spiderlings that shoot strands of thread into the air and ride them like a balloon in the wind to new islands, the mites that hitchhike on beaks of hummingbirds to be carried to new locations, the millions of wildebeest following the rain across the Serengeti, or the Monarch butterflies who use Earth's magnetic field to trace a path along the west coast of North America.
Amazing Animal Journeys is the perfect book for the animal obsessed and the endlessly curious who just can't get enough of wildlife and nature. With engaging information and absorbing images, it's perfect for children to explore by themselves or with an equally curious adult.

This is a beautiful, engaging book to share. There are some incredible photographs accompanied by maps and illustrations to give a sense of how far these journeys are.
