Hands on with the luxury Hermes Apple Watch Series 7
The Hermes Apple Watch Series 7
Despite becoming available to order at the same time as the standard Apple Watch Series 7 models, Apple has just recently started shipping the high-end Hermes models.
The Hermes Apple Watch Series 7 comes exclusively in stainless steel. Users can opt for Silver or Space Black colorways. Like the remainder of the lineup, it's available in both 41mm and 45mm case sizes.
Here, we are looking at the 41mm silver Hermes Apple Watch Series 7 with the Gourmette Double Tour band
Hands on with the hardware
Standard models of Apple Watch come wrapped in white paper with two boxes on the inside for the band and watch, respectively. For the Hermes, it comes in a sturdy cardboard box in the signature Hermes orange color. The boxes slide out from the inside, one for the watch and the other for whichever Hermes band you chose to bundle it with.
Looking at the watch itself, there are nearly no physical differences from the standard stainless steel Apple Watch. You'll notice on the back it says "Hermes" etched into the steel, but it's otherwise identical. It has the same body, the same always-on display, and the same performance.
There is one small physical difference though, which is the Space Black color option. Apple used to offer Space Black to everyone. However, in the last two years Apple has moved away from the color and offered the normal stainless steel only in Silver and Graphite. Space Black has remained an Hermes exclusive ever since.
Graphite is more of a silver or gray color, while Space Black is darker. It's a bit of a bummer for the normal stainless steel owners as the graphite doesn't look too far off from the silver and Apple's own bands haven't been updated for the Graphite color.
As the Nike Apple Watch can only be bundled with Nike bands, the Hermes can only be bundled with Hermes bands. Any band will fit the watch, but only Hermes bands can come in the box.
All of the Hermes bands are leather, and probably aren't a good choice for extracurricular activities. Working out, swimming, sports, yard work — with these kinds of activities, a more durable band choice will be a better fit.
That's why Apple bundles in a second bonus band for free. In each Hermes Apple Watch box, you get your leather band of choice, but you also get an Hermes orange sport band. This ensures you do have an alternate choice beyond the leather band for daily wear.
The band we chose to bundle with our Hermes Apple Watch was the Gourmette Double Tour band. Apple says this all-new band choice pays homage to the iconic Hermes dog collars that hail from the 1930s. It's made of ultra-soft Fauve Barenia leather.
It is made by stamping the leather into this shape so that it has an amazing look from the front. The back is all flat, which does make it very comfortable on your wrist. It's surely an elegant band option, and, as these bands can fetch hundreds of dollars on their own, a lot of the money you're spending on a Hermes Apple Watch goes toward the band.
Hermes watch faces
Aside from the bands, the other special feature you get with the Hermes model are a trio of exclusive watch faces. You can only get these by purchasing the Hermes edition, just like the Nike version's exclusive faces.
The first face is the Hermes Circuit H face. This face has two style options, with the hour straight up and down or angled from the side. Then you choose your color option.
The second face is simply called the Hermes face. This face has a couple of style options, including being able to change the numbers around the outside to different fonts and setting the time to numbers or Roman numerals.
Then, there is the Hermes Circular face. It's similar to the Infograph face and has four rounded complications in the corners.
All of these faces have the Hermes logo emblazoned on them to make it clear what version of the Apple Watch you're sporting. Another little touch with the watch faces: as you scroll through all available faces, you'll notice that they all are pre-set with the signature Hermes orange color. You can go and change the colors, but they have the Hermes orange by default.
Is it worth it?
That brings us to the obvious question — is the Hermes Apple Watch Series 7 worth it? If you're questioning if you'll get enough value from the bonus sport band and the extra watch faces to justify the cost, the answer is a resounding no. Like any fashion item, you're not paying for extra features, you're paying for the logo and the clout that comes with it.
A Hermes Apple Watch is worth it if you want to be wearing Hermes on your wrist. You can buy a Hermes band even create your own watch face with the Hermes logo, but this is the only official way to get an Hermes-branded smartwatch. That, and it's the only way to get a Space Black stainless steel case.
If either of those things is important to you, the Hermes Apple Watch Series 7 has many little touches that certainly make a more luxe experience.

$1.229 seems quite reasonable for the most exclusive of the exclusives, as defined by Angela. Ohhh - I get so sentimental thinking of Angela Ahrendts, she was such a great person (when it comes to depleting family cash reserves)
I guess us peasants will have to settle for the standard AW7 Apple models.
Great review! In all seriousness I do wonder if these count towards the Hermes spend in order to get offered one of their classic/holy trinity bags.
bluefire1 said: I guess us peasants will have to settle for the standard AW7 Apple models. Class envy much? If you had the disposable income of the people who can buy luxury items like this I think you could have a different opinion. Why would someone buy a $100K Porsche when a $12K Chevy Spark can get you where you want to go?
I have never understood the double loop Hermes bands. IMO they look like they would chronically have one loop too tight and the other too loose, always uncomfortable. That’s not even mentioning that I think they look dumb. If that’s what you want to spend your cash on, fine, but for me the practical aspects make them a non starter at any price.

Apple Watch Series 7 is here – all you need to know
Just like clockwork, a new Apple Watch is here. Almost exactly a year after the Series 6 launched, we’ve got our first official look at its successor. Predictably, it’s known as the Watch Series 7, although there are a handful of useful upgrades.
These include a new flatter display, with slimmer bezels and two new screen sizes. This means there’s space for a full keyboard now, while IP6X dust resistance is added to the existing WR50 waterproofing. You also get significantly faster charging and fall detection while cycling, as well as a new range of colours. The Series 7 is still compatible with existing Apple Watch straps and bands, though.
The wearable replaces 2020’s Watch Series 6 , joining the Watch SE and 2017’s Watch Series 3 in Apple’s smartwatch lineup.
In this article we’ll run through everything you need to know about the Apple Watch Series 7, including its design, tech specs, release date and pricing.
If you are reading this on mobile please click here for the latest version of the story .
When will the Apple Watch Series 7 be released?
The Watch Series 7 was announced at Apple’s ‘California Streaming’ event on 14 September 2021 .
We’d usually expect a release date or pre-orders to be confirmed at the same time, but this wasn’t the case. Apple simply stated that the Series 7 would be available ‘later this fall’, but we don’t have anything more specific.
That means you can expect the Watch Series 7 anytime before the end of November 2021 . There will likely be a pre-order window 1-2 weeks before the device goes on sale. Apple may reveal more if it holds further events over the next couple of months – we’ll update this article as soon as we know more.
Perhaps this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Reports had indicated that Apple was struggling with production problems for the Apple Watch Series 7 . Apparently the new design and a new lamination process for the upcoming Apple Watch generation was causing manufacturing issues.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple has resolved these issues, but it’s clearly still affected production.
The Watch Series 7 starts at £379/$399 – that’s exactly the same as the Watch Series 6.
Over the past three years pricing on the Apple Watch series has held reasonably steady – last year there was a slight drop in price for the UK market. At launch the previous three models were priced as followed:
- Apple Watch Series 4: From £399/$399
- Apple Watch Series 5: From £399/$399
- Apple Watch Series 6: From £379/$399
- Apple Watch Series 7: From £379/$399
The Watch Series 7 has replaced the Watch Series 6 in Apple’s wearable lineup, which the company will no longer be selling:
- Apple Watch Series 3: From £199/$199
- Apple Watch Series SE: From £269/$279
Apple has updated the design of Watch Series 7, representing the biggest aesthetic changes we’ve seen for years. The most noticeable change is apparent immediately – the Watch Series 7’s display now extends almost all the way to the edge of the watch face.
This is made possible thanks to a significant slimming of the bezels. At 1.7mm thick, they’re 40% smaller than those on the Watch 6. It gives the Watch 7 a more modern design, without any noticeable changes to the total footprint of the device. Indeed, the new watch is still fully compatible with Watch 6 straps and bands.
The new design also paves the way for another key change in the Watch Series 7…
New screen sizes
The Apple Watch Series 7 will be available in 41mm and 45mm screen sizes – up from 40mm and 44mm on the Series 6. It’s a subtle change, but one that could make a big difference to the usability of the device.
Indeed, Apple says the the Series 7 offers almost 20% more screen area than its predecessor. It also means there’s now room for a full-size keyboard, which works using both swipe gestures and regular tapping. It’s a useful alternative to the existing voice typing and scribble options while texting or composing an email.
The Always-On display has also had an upgrade. It’s now 70% brighter when indoors, making it easier to quickly glance at the time or notifications.
Improved durability
Apple is also touting the toughness of the Watch Series 7. It’s apparently the company’s most durable watch yet, with a thicker front glass that’s more crack-resistant. Apple assures us this will have no effect on the viewing experience.
The watch also now boasts IP6X dust resistance – that’s the highest rating a wearable can get. Alongside the existing WR50 water resistance, it’s now being pitched as a device which can be used anywhere without worrying about damage.
Faster charging
Improved battery life was rumoured to be coming to the Watch Series 7, but that hasn’t materialised – Apple still claims 18 hours of typical usage on a single charge.
An area that has been upgraded is charging speeds. A new USB-C magnetic pad enables 33% faster speeds than the Watch Series 6. Apple says you can go from 0-80% in just 45 minutes.
New fitness features
The Watch Series 7’s new fitness features focus on those who regularly ride a bike. Cycling is one of the modes that can now be triggered automatically, as well auto-pause and resume features.
Fall detection, a safety feature introduced in 2018, will also now detect falls while working out.
Whenever the Watch Series 7 ends up being released, it’ll be running the final release of watchOS 8.
Announced at WWDC in June 2021, Apple’s latest software update focuses on photos and messaging, health, sleep, keeping fit and mindfulness, plus better support for smart home kit and some new Apple Wallet features. Plus there’s Assistive Touch, which allows you to control the watch using gestures, and on-device recording for Siri.
Among the most interesting new features are the fact Apple Watch will get the iPhone’s Portrait Photos mode, allowing you to display even better images of your friends and family, plus the rebranding of the Breathe app as Mindfulness, which now includes a Pause to Relax mode with calming animations and the addition of a Mindful Minutes summary.

Let’s get a few things straight before we start: the Apple Watch Series 7 certainly won’t go down as the biggest update to Apple’s smartwatch in the seven generations to date.
There are no game-changing new features here or mind-boggling new sensors.
And if you’re hoping for drastic changes in the battery life of Apple’s smartwatch, then reset your expectations.
But the Series 7 heralds only the second design change since the original Apple Watch in 2014. And it succeeds in putting the Series 7 right at the top of the smartwatch tree.
Read on for our full review – and check out the new Apple Watch Series 8 for our view on the latest version.
- Best Apple Watch alternatives
- Best smartwatches from our reviews
The Apple Watch Series 7 looks better than the Series 6 and is easier to live with, thanks to fast charging and a bigger screen. And given that it replaces its predecessor for the same price, we’d call that a win.
However, there’s no denying this is an iterative update.
But given that the Series 8 offered no design changes, and only a temperature sensor for menstrual cycle tracking and new car crash detection, it's still a great option today. And with the additions from watchOS 9 , it's arguably easier to recommend than the newer version.
But back in our Series 6 review, we reasoned that the ECG and always-on display weren’t big enough reasons to recommend most people paying more over the $279/£249 Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen).
But the Series 7 screen, shape, and colorways leave the Apple Watch SE looking dated. And the lack of an always-on display for the SE feels like a huge backward step.
That makes the Series 7 an excellent option if you can find it at the right price.
But what if you don’t want an Apple Watch at all?
The screen on the new Amazfit GTS 3 Pro and GTS 3 make them both contenders. And the sports tracking of the Garmin Venu 2 and the fitness/health smarts of the Fitbit Sense are also excellent choices. All of them torpedo the Series 7 on battery life.
When it comes to Series 7, it’s all about the design. There are new colors for the cheapest aluminum finish – and we got this natty blue. There's also green, red, and a white and dark grey finish. It makes the standard Series 7 quite fun, but you will need to get the more pricey stainless steel finishes to get something shiny.
The Series 7’s key change is the screen – and by reducing the border to just 1.7mm, it packs in 20% more screen real estate over the Series 6 and SE.
And without resorting to hyperbole, the difference is stark.
- Apple Watch SE vs Series 7 – the key differences
The Series 7 is all-screen. The edge-to-edge display looks superb, and it feels like an all-new smartwatch on the wrist.
There’s a slight change to the case size too, with softer edges that immediately make the Series 6 feel boxy.
Apple has made some design changes to watchOS 8 on the Series 7 to make use of the new display, and we’ll come to those. But the screen change represents more than that. It immediately puts the Apple Watch SE, Series 6, and, let’s face it, most smartwatch rivals in the shade. They feel old. The Series 7 is back on top, and it makes the whole Apple Watch line-up make more sense.
How’s it done this? Well first, the Series 7 has grown slightly – and now comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes, up from 40mm and 44mm on the Apple Watch SE. That means that the Apple Watch Series 7 is the biggest ever, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea – especially women.
The screen is now surrounded by just 1.7mm of black which is 40% less than the Series 6.
It’s pulled tight to the edge of the case and the Ion-X glass has been machined with an angular edge that refracts light, pulling the display area down to the metal of the case, so it feels like there’s zero gap.
The screen is noticeably brighter than Series 6, and the 1,000-nit screen punches out as you tilt your wrist. And the low-power version of the always-on display is brighter too.
In terms of screen specs, we have details: The 44mm is an OLED Retina display, 396 x 484 resolution and the 40mm is 352 x 420. It’s right up there with the biggest and baddest smartwatch displays, in a relatively compact case.
So how does the Series 7’s screen change affect usability? Well, not a great deal as the Apple Watch has always been a very intuitive smartwatch to use – but there have been some changes.
The menus and screens are bigger, and buttons are noticeably larger and it’s certainly easier to navigate the watch and interact with it. We didn’t have a problem before, but those with chunky digits will enjoy the change.
Possibly the biggest deal is the amount of text you can see (50% more over Series 6) – and that makes a difference when it comes to notifications.
And Apple has added an on-screen keyboard that can appear when text input is required from apps. An easy example is the Messages app. Now, the screen will have to grow by more than 20% to get us to use an on-screen keyboard on a smartwatch regularly.
But in testing it worked surprisingly well, using the QuickPath to swipe out a simple message.
We did make mistakes, and you can use the crown to weed those out. It’s fine in a pinch when you don’t want to be seen talking to your Watch like Dick Tracey.
There are a few new watch faces that are exclusive to Series 7 and make use of the extra screen space.
The Contour watch face is the poster boy for Series 7 and looks great – and the Modular Duo can show two large complications.
We think there could have been more new watch face options for Series 7, but Apple has always been notoriously tight with watch face options, so it’s little surprise.
We usually dive into the most minute of detail here, but the Series 7 doesn’t change things in terms of the fitness tracking and sports tracking from previous generations, so we're going to keep things top-level.
In terms of activity tracking, the Apple Watch still offers the best experience on any smartwatch. The three Rings are baked right into the experience. The Move (calories burned via movement), Exercise (time spent at higher levels) and Stand goals are simple and effective.
Active Zone Minutes on Fitbit and Amazfit’s PAI score are possibly more scientific, but they’re also over-complicated and hard to engage with.
Apple’s approach is simple, effective, and clear – and the prompts and reminders are regular and addicting. A focus on calories and movements is preferable to steps, but you can see those, too.
Apple added sleep tracking in watchOS 7, and sleep stages in watchOS 9. And that works nicely, even if it is extraordinarily simple. It’s an accurate monitor of time in bed and your sleep schedule.
If you're into seeing a more data-driven look at your night's sleep, that's now possible with the added sleep stages, which were added as an update.
Sports tracking is a strong part of the Apple Watch feature set – and the Workout app has workout modes for most popular activities – it just added Tai Chi, for example.
We regularly used the yoga workout tracker – which doesn’t offer too much detail about the session (just heart rate, duration, and calories), and then bounce the session into the Fitness app on our iPhone, where we rarely look at it again.
watchOS 9 also added a host of extra running features, with data on form, running power, and heart rate zones. Basic navigation is also available via the Compass app, too.
For running, we used to defer to the Strava app – but the Workout app is now a great place for data, and it's won us back.
But the likes of Strava, Nike Run Club – as well as Hole 19 and Tag Heuer Golf for example – encompass what the Apple Watch is about. If there are elements you're missing, you can go and download an app.
The Apple Watch Series 7 will also estimate your VO2 Max as part of its Cardio Fitness feature, and it can do this from walking rather than tracked running workouts. We did use it for several workouts, however, and it gave us a VO2 Max of 48 – which is about right. Garmin, which won our group test of estimates against a full treadmill VO2 Max assessment, estimated ours at 49.
Heart rate performance during exercise of Series 7 also didn’t change over Series 6.
We found it to be reliable during steady runs and workout sessions in Apple Fitness+ against a chest strap – and usually only 1-2bpm out over a one-hour run and matching the same peak HR.
As the flagship, the Apple Watch Series 7 is the only smartwatch in the current range to feature ECG, which also appeared on Series 4/5/6. You can take a reading and it will check the rhythm of your heart for irregularity that could point to atrial fibrillation (Afib).
It will also produce an ECG graph that you can show your doctor, which can be found in Apple Health on your iPhone.
It’s FDA-approved and easy to use. Start the app, place your finger on the crown and go.
It’s perhaps not a feature most people will use daily, or even after the first go. But for a subset of people, and older users, having an ECG on the wrist can be hugely important.
Like other Apple Watch devices, it will monitor for high/low heart rate as well and notify you if anything is up.
There’s a SpO2 sensor on board, which can take spot readings for oxygen saturation. It can also do that at night if you wear the Apple Watch to bed.
And it will also estimate breathing rate too, which will be listed in Apple Health – spikes of which can be an early indicator of illness.
Both of these are available on the cheaper Apple Watch SE.
There’s been a clamor for longer Apple Watch battery life since 2014, and Apple hasn’t budged an inch.
While the Apple Watch Series 7 does infinitely more than the Series 0, including blood oxygen and an always-on display which are mammoth power drainers, the quoted battery life is still just 18 hours.
Now, the 18-hour quote by Apple is absolute hooey. Even as heavy users of our Apple Watch, we regularly get around 36 hours. We can expect the Apple Watch to track sleep and last into the next day.
With the Series 7, Apple hasn’t affected the battery life but has made it faster to charge. It says that an 8-minute charge will give enough juice to power a night’s sleep tracking, and 45 minutes will bag you 80%.
That was more than borne out in our testing. We found:
- 8 mins – 9% to 30%
- 45 mins – 9% to 95%
- A 40 min run using Strava used 10%.
There is a small catch. To get fast charging, you need to use the special new charging plate that comes with the Series 7. This has the same plate. with a metallic rim to identify it, but a USB-C port on the other end.
Not wanting to give up a precious outlet just for the Apple Watch, off we went to Amazon looking for a new extension block with USB-C. In the meantime, we made do by plugging the Series 7 into the MacBook in a different room.
In the Series 6 review, we moaned that the sleep tracking made keeping the Apple Watch charged a headache – and that was a big negative. Maybe we’ve got used to it, but that hasn’t been the case with the Series 7, and the faster charging certainly helps.
For those that single-day battery life is beyond the pale, nothing has changed. For those willing to compromise for the benefits of the Apple Watch, the fast charging makes the Series 7 easier to live with – if you can find somewhere to plug it in.

The new Apple Watch Series 7 was announced alongside the iPhone 13 , iPad , and iPad Mini , but it’s the final device of Apple’s new fall products to launch. This newer model sits atop Apple’s current lineup of smartwatches, which still includes the SE and Series 3 rounding out the line. Featuring a slightly revamped design and larger display, the Series 7 comes in either a 41mm (up from 40mm) configuration starting at $399 or a 45mm (up from 44mm) configuration — each with optional cellular radios if you want to pay for service with your carrier.
After Apple’s initial announcement billed them for release “later this fall,” we now know the new models are set to release on October 15th , and you can preorder them now through Apple , Best Buy , Target , and Walmart .
The Apple Watch Series 7 prominently features that new, larger display that stretches the screen closer to the edges for a more full-bleed aesthetic and showing more actionable information at once. It has a slight curve at its farthest edges, though Apple says the watch is overall more durable thanks to a 50 percent thicker glass cover and IP6X rating for better dirt and sand resistance.
New watch faces exclusive to the Series 7 promise to put that extra screen real estate to work, while the watch maintains a physical footprint that is close to its predecessor. Apple has also improved charging speeds, including a new USB-C wireless magnetic fast charger with the watch that it claims will offer up to a 33 percent quicker charge.
On the software side, the Apple Watch Series 7 runs watchOS 8, supports a full swiping keyboard for text input, is compatible with new workouts, and maintains all the health-tracking features found on prior iterations: sleep tracking, heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring, and fall detection that now registers during workouts. There is plenty to take advantage of if you’re in the market for a new Apple Watch and prefer to have Apple’s latest and greatest iteration.

The main options for you to decide on, aside from your preferred color, are size and connectivity. The base Apple Watch Series 7 configuration is a 41mm, GPS-only model that retails for $399. The 41mm version with a cellular connection runs $100 more at $499. If you have a larger wrist or prefer bigger screens, the 45mm GPS-only model is $429, while its cellular-equipped counterpart climbs up to $529.
Preorder all sizes, colors, and configurations at Apple
If you want an Apple Watch with your pick of the litter for bands — standard, premium, or fixed-length — then Apple has the most on offer. It’s the only place you can order an Apple Watch with custom-sized solo loop straps, though be sure to use the size guide. Shipments are initially expected for October 15th, however, select models won’t ship until early to mid-November. If you opt for in-store pickup at an Apple Store, it might still be the 15th.
Apple Watch Series 7
The new Apple Watch Series 7 steps up to sizes of 41mm and 45mm, featuring larger displays in a familiar design and footprint. The Series 7 generation introduces faster charging, an IP6X dust rating for improved durability, and an updated selection of colors. Prices start at $399.
Preorder at Best Buy
Best Buy’s site is indicating that the base 41mm GPS model will arrive on release day, while some other configurations with cellular connectivity are to be expected around October 25th. The retailer has all colors available for the size and connectivity of your choice, each with a matching sport band.

Apple Watch Series 7 (45mm)
The larger, 45mm, size of the new Apple Watch Series 7, available in all colors with GPS or GPS and LTE.
Preorder at Walmart
Walmart has a variety of anticipated shipping dates for preorders. All preorders are expected to ship by October 15th, though, some individual configurations have delivery dates ranging from the 15th to the 21st. Oddly, the red, 45mm LTE model notes a shipping date of October 11th, though we would advise not putting too much confidence in its accuracy. There can sometimes be errors in retailer listings as soon as a product is put up for sale, which is often corrected later.
Preorder at Target
Target lists each and every color and configuration of the aluminum Apple Watch Series 7 as shipping by the release date of October 15th. This can always change on the fly, but it is worth considering if you want to get your new watch as quickly as possible. Target RedCard members will also receive free shipping.
How to preorder the Apple Watch Series 7 from phone carriers
Most major phone carriers in the US offer the cellular Apple Watch Series 7 for preorder, which can help if you prefer to purchase the smartwatch on a monthly installment plan that you might already have for your phone. For the cellular models, Verizon , AT&T , and T-Mobile all offer the Series 7 in each of its sizes and colors at the same starting price as Apple.
Apple has confirmed that when you buy a cellular-equipped Apple Watch Series 7 through its own store and activate it on Verizon or Sprint / T-Mobile , you will get $100 back.
More premium case options and custom configurator
Apple has also offered the latest top-end watch in additional case materials for years. This generation is no different, with the Series 7 available in stainless steel starting at $699 and titanium starting at $799 , as well as band options from luxury fashion boutique Hermès. The easiest way to preorder these is directly from Apple, as it carries the most options and not all retailers sell the more luxurious watches — though Best Buy , Target , and Walmart do have some stainless steel models available for preorder. Most people opt for aluminum, which offers the same functionality at a lower price, but the premium models have a unique fit and finish.
The Apple Watch Studio , Apple’s own online boutique for creating exact custom Apple Watch configurations, makes a return for the Series 7. If you prefer an Apple Watch in a particular combination of size, finish, color, and band, you can make your selection and pay the configured price directly from Apple. This is the only way to order one of the popular solo loop straps with your Apple Watch, as those fixed-length straps are only sold through Apple.

Apple Apple Watch Series 7 GPS
I've been testing the Apple Watch Series 7 for a week and found it to be a noticeable leap forward over the Series 6, with noticeable improvements made to its display, durability, charging capabilities, and health features. Here's why its new design and performance improvements make it worthy of your upgrade.
Bigger Screen = Better Interactions
The Series 7 has a 20% larger display panel than its predecessors — and it seriously enhances your user experience. Featuring ultra-thin borders, the screen of the latest Apple Watch is infinitely more convenient.
Upgrading to the Apple Watch Series 7 from a Series 6, I found simple tasks like glancing at the time, checking on my notifications, and viewing watch face complications like weather and activity stats to be more effortless on the bigger screen. Plus, the display panel is even easier to read without the need to lift your wrist in always-on mode.
Even Apple watchOS 8 — the latest installment of the wearable platform — has been designed to take advantage of the new timepiece's bigger screen. Thanks to bigger type and larger buttons, onboard apps function better than ever, and the display feels substantially easier to use. To top things off, there are a bunch of new watch faces that fully utilize the bigger panel.
My favorite new bit about the bigger screen of the Apple Watch Series 7 is the full QWERTY keyboard. This cool new feature allows you to reply to messages and emails by simply tapping on its letters or sliding your finger over them. It’s a feature that allowed me to take longer breaks from bigger screens by cranking out lengthier replies with surprising efficiency. This new keyboard function is such a game changer, I’d upgrade to the Apple Watch Series 7 for this feature alone.
I'm happy to report that the Series 7's bigger screen didn't have a negative impact on its battery life. I could easily get a full day of use from the gadget without the need to disable its always-on display feature.
Sleeker and Tougher Build
Apple has freshened up the design of the Apple Watch with refined corner curves and a display glass cover that's better integrated into the metal case, all while maintaining the same instantly recognizable shape. The newcomer still looks like a classic Apple Watch, only sleeker.
The Series 7 is even tougher than older Apple Watch variants, thanks to a thicker crystal and a case with an IP6X rating for dust resistance — which is the industry's highest rating. The smart timepiece is also fully waterproof to depths of up to 50 meters.
Thankfully, despite having the biggest case yet, every Apple Watch Series 7 is fully compatible with bands from older models. So if you've accumulated a vast collection of Apple Watch bands over the years, you won't have to abandon any of them for this upgrade.
Best-in-Class Health and Fitness Tracking
Like every Apple Watch that precedes it, the Series 7 has groundbreaking health-, fitness-, and wellness-tracking tools, making them the best set of health tools in the business. The smartwatch is packed with essential tech, headlined by a heart rate sensor with ECG capabilities and a blood oxygen sensor. The former can keep tabs on your heart rhythm with exceptional accuracy, and alerts you for potential health- and life-threatening abnormalities.
The innovative blood oxygen sensor can track changes in your body through an infrared light that's integrated into its back. It can monitor for changes in your body over time, including while you sleep — but you should be mindful that the feature is intended for wellness tracking, not medical use.
When it comes to fitness tracking, the Apple Watch Series 7 can do just about everything — from indoor cycling all the way to swimming in open waters. The watch can automatically detect and prompt you to begin tracking a host of activities.
You'll also get an outstanding set of tools for tracking outdoor activities like an always-on altimeter and an accurate GPS with a built-in compass, among others. In addition to outdoor runs and hikes, to name a couple of activities, the Series 7 can also track their cycling trips.
The Apple Watch has been a favorite of ours for health and fitness tracking for years, and the Series 7 is no exception. Keeping track of all of your performance metrics and vital stats via Fitness and Health, a duo of native iPhone apps, is easier to access and understand than ever. You can view your trends over time and even set new goals for your favorite exercises.
By offering easy access to a constantly growing selection of studio workouts led by professional trainers, Apple Fitness+ is another big reason to consider the tech giant's watches. The service offers training sessions with various lengths for all activity levels. You can view the guided workouts and your Apple Watch metrics on the screen of your iPhone , iPad , or Apple TV.
You can rest assured you're in safe hands with the Apple Watch Series 7, thanks to built-in fall detection tech and the ability to contact emergency services in more than 150 countries worldwide. The potentially life-saving features are enabled by default for anyone over 55 years of age.
Snappy Performance
Performance-wise, the Apple Watch Series 7 delivers a stellar user experience just like the Series 6. Its dual-core processor shares bits with the A13 Bionic chip that's powering the iPhone 11 and the latest iPad, so apps opened instantly and switching between open ones was just as swift. In terms of speed and fluidity of interactions, the Series 7 is second to none in its product category.
The Series 7 can also charge even faster than the already speedy Series 6 — up to 33%, to be exact. You can get its battery from 0 to 80% — enough for a day of use with the screen always on — in only 45 minutes.
If you're an iPhone user looking for a new smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 7 is the one to get, as it fits your budget. The next-level convenience brought by the bigger display makes the new installment a worthwhile upgrade for current Apple Watch users as well.
The entry-level Apple Watch Series 7 comes with a 41-millimeter case crafted from recycled aluminum in a multitude of colors: blue, green, midnight, and starlight. The 45-millimeter version costs $30 more, while cellular connectivity will tack on $100 to the price of both models.
Stainless steel Series 7 models and titanium-clad Edition versions start at $749 and $849, respectively . Collaborations with Nike and Hermès are also available, with the latter topping out at $1,759 for stainless steel case with a stunning Gourmette Double Tour leather band .

Apple Watch Series 7 colors — these are your options
Apple Watch Series 7 is here, and these are the color options
Apple today (Sept. 14) announced the new generation of its flagship wearable during the company's September event , and we're here to break down all of the Apple Watch 7 colors that you'll be able to get later this fall.
Compared to the wild speculation of the pre-event leaks, the announcement was slightly underwhelming in terms of upgrades. The 7th generation didn't get a significant redesign, although on a positive note we did get a few exciting color additions to make up for it.
- Here's everything we know about the newly announced Apple Watch 7
- These are the best smartwatches to consider buying right now
- Plus : Apple event recap — what's new and what was missing
The new Apple Watch Series 7 now packs a reengineered Always-On Retina display with thinner borders and improved durability. One of the most impressive features is IP6X dust resistance, making the Series 7 the first in the Apple Watch family to get such a rating.
Despite sporting the same 18-hour battery life as the Apple Watch 6 , Cupertino's 7th-gen wearable now also offers 33% faster charging than its predecessor, thanks to a USB-C connector.
Design-wise, Apple decided to make the Series 7's corners even more rounded than before. This contradicted numerous rumors and leaks that surfaced earlier this year. Jon Prosser of FrontPageTech previously claimed that the next generation of Apple's flagship wearable would get an iPhone 12-like design with flat edges and "more experimental colors".
Similar to its predecessor, the stainless steel color options for the Apple Watch 7 remain unchanged, offering a choice between silver, graphite and titanium .
The slightly cheaper aluminium range of the Apple Watch Series 7 will come in five colors, including Midnight, Green, Blue and Product [RED] as well as the newly-added Starlight . And while we definitely expected a more impressive color palette, we were pleased to see an addition of a new sand-like color that users could potentially match with the newly unveiled iPhone 13 .

Sadly, even with the addition of the new pink iPhone 13 models, Apple didn't deliver a matching color option for the Apple Watch Series 7. Nor will we see the new stunning pastel blue seen in the iPhone 13 Pro models.
The Apple Watch Series 7 is set to be released later this fall and will be priced starting at $399. So if you have your eyes set on getting Apple's newest wearable, make sure to bookmark our Apple Watch 7 page, where we've rounded up all of the new watch's specs and features. We'll be updating the page as soon as the word from Cupertino arrives.

Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Series 3 have a water resistance rating of 50 meters under ISO standard 22810:2010. This means that they may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean. However, they should not be used for scuba diving, waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below shallow depth. Series 7 is also rated IP6X dust resistant.
Blood Oxygen app measurements are not intended for medical use, including self-diagnosis or consultation with a doctor, and are only designed for general fitness and wellness purposes.
The ECG app and irregular rhythm notification require the latest version of watchOS and iOS, and are not intended for use by people under 22 years old. The ECG app is available on Apple Watch Series 4 or later (not including Apple Watch SE). The irregular rhythm notification is not designed for people who have been previously diagnosed with Afib.
Apple Watch Series 7 (GPS + Cellular) and Apple Watch SE (GPS + Cellular) can use a cellular connection for Emergency SOS. To use Emergency SOS on an Apple Watch without cellular, your iPhone needs to be nearby. Apple Watch Series 9 vs Series 7: Is the upgrade worth it?
The Apple Watch Series 9 and Series 7 were released two years apart. Is upgrading to the newer model worth it?
Apple Watch Series 9
Apple Watch Series 9 packs in a new, more powerful processor, a brighter display capable of up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, Apple's U2 chip that enables precision-finding of your iPhone, as well as better HomePod integration, and a whole slew of features and tech you'd expect.
- Includes temperature sensor
- Double the storage
- Offline Siri
- Likely won't see as many discounts
- No titanium variant
- Fewer finishes
Apple Watch Series 7
The Apple Watch Series 7 has been discontinued and can cost as much as the Series 9. Only buy it if it's notably discounted, as it offers a similar set of main features and health sensors.
- Will likely see more discounts
- More colorways
- Titanium variant
- Dated processor
- Harder to come by
- Dimmer display
The Apple Watch Series 9 and Series 7 are two of the best smartwatches iPhone users could buy. Not only do they offer seamless interoperability with iOS 17 , but they also pack some advanced sensors that can help users track their health and fitness.
Though, if you're already using an Apple Watch Series 7, is the upgrade to a Series 9 worth it? Furthermore, if you don't own either of these models, which one should you opt for? It's a question that should be simple, but it's complicated by patent issues that make the Series 7 better in one way than a brand-new Series 9.
Price, availability, and specs
Similar retail prices at launch, but series 7 is likely much cheaper.
The Apple Watch Series 7 launched in 2021 for $399, but it has been officially discontinued. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Series 9 launched in September 2023 for the same $399 price tag. Both models also offer a GPS + Cellular variant that costs extra. They both also offer two size options: 41mm and 45mm.
Notably, the Apple Watch Series 7 offers aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium builds, and you can pick between Midnight, Starlight, Green, Blue, Red, Graphite, Gold, Silver, Space Black, and Titanium colorways. Meanwhile, the Series 9 misses out on a titanium build and offers Midnight, Starlight, Silver, Pink, Red, Graphite, and Gold finishes. Regardless of your color choice, though, make sure to get an Apple Watch Series 9 case to protect it from damage.
Due to patent issues, Apple Watch Series 9 smartwatches sold on or after Jan. 18, 2024 will not have support for blood oxygen monitoring. Smartwatches sold before that date will have the feature. All Apple Watch Series 7 models can utilize the feature as well.
Apple Watch Series 7 Review: Bigger screen, better battery and brilliant experience
Apple watch series 9 review: more of the same, but it'll be enough, design, build, and display, mostly the same, with a few key differences.
When buying a new device, you need to consider, first off, any outward differences. In this case, however, there's not much to compare, as both the Apple Watch Series 9 and Series 7 share a ton of design elements. For starters, they both look the same on the outside, and you pretty much can't tell the two apart. You get to pick between 41mm and 45mm sizes in both cases, and you also get to choose between an aluminum or stainless steel build. Unfortunately, the Series 7 exclusively offers a titanium build and a wider variety of colors, as highlighted in the previous section.
Otherwise, both watches can resist up to 50 meters of water and have curved screens that support the always-on display feature. Speaking of the display, though, the Apple Watch Series 9 has a 2,000-nit peak brightness, double what the Series 7 offers. So, if you tend to use your watch in direct sunlight often, then you may appreciate the Series 9's brighter screen. Everything else about the screen is the same, though.
Winner: Apple Watch Series 9
Performance and features
Is the series 7 actually better than the series 9.
The gap between the Apple Watch Series 9 and Series 7 is larger in the performance department. For starters, Apple has finally boosted the CPU for the first time in three years with the S9 SiP. This upgrade is accompanied by double the storage (64GB vs. 32GB), faster and offline Siri support, a double-tap pinch gesture to interact with watchOS 10, precision iPhone finding, and better HomePod integration. That's not to mention that the Series 9 also packs perks introduced with the Series 8, such as crash detection, menstrual cycle tracking through a temperature sensor, and more.
However, while the aforementioned sensors and features are nice to have, they likely won't impact how you interact with your watch day-to-day. After all, both watches offer the same battery life, fast charging, and fitness and health tracking, such as ECG, heart rate measurements, calories burnt, and more. And they're rated for similar battery life — up to 18 hours regularly or 36 hours in Low Power Mode. Plus, the Series 7 also got the upgrade to watchOS 10, so it has the subsequent UI overhauls. Ultimately, both the Series 7 and Series 9 will offer similar experiences, but the latter model packs a few extra perks.
Technically, the Apple Watch Series 7 has an extra feature (blood-oxygen monitoring) due to the patent issues related to the Series 9. Nonetheless, the Series 9 has better performance thanks to more advanced hardware as well as two generations of new features.
Overall winner: Apple Watch Series 9
A newer watch with better hardware and more features.
The Apple Watch Series 9 offers everything the Series 7 does and more, outside of blood oxygen monitoring. That's excluding the titanium build option and the wider variety of colors of the Series 7, which aren't a big deal. So, if you don't already have a Series 7 or Series 8, then the Series 9 is definitely an excellent pick for $399. If you already have a Series 7, however, then you may want to hold on to it, as the upgrades included with the Series 9 arguably aren't worth its cost.
If you're upgrading from a Series 6 or a non-watchOS wearable, then the Series 7 is an acceptable pick if you find it heavily (50% off) discounted. You may still come across some major deals, as some retailers haven't gotten rid of their old stock yet. If blood oxygen monitoring is incredibly important to you, you're likely better off considering a Series 9 instead of the older Series 7, even if the Series 7 supports that feature.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra: news, rumored price, release date, and more
Samsung has a strong presence in the smartwatch market with its Galaxy Watch series, which includes the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic . The company is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 7 Classic later this year. However, rumors suggest that Samsung is also working on a new addition to its smartwatch lineup — the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra: release date

- Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra: what we’d like to see
Information about this watch is sparse at the moment. However, that should change as we approach a launch date. Here’s the latest information on the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.
Based on recent history, Samsung is expected to unveil new smartwatches this summer. Last year, the Galaxy Watch 6 was announced on July 26 during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event and released on August 11. The previous year, the Galaxy Watch 5 was unveiled on August 10 and released on August 26.
- 5 phones you should buy instead of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus
- The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 release date just leaked
- Every Samsung gadget we still expect in 2024
Due to this year’s Paris Olympics, which kick off on July 26, Samsung is expected to hold its summer press event earlier than usual. Rumors now suggest the company will reveal new products, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 smartphones and new watches, on Wednesday, July 10 .
Samsung will undoubtedly release the new products around the time the Olympic games begin and advertise them throughout the two-week event.
It is currently unclear what the price of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra will be. The Galaxy Watch 6 is currently priced at $300, while the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is priced at $400 before discounts. It can be assumed that the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra will have better features and design than the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 7 Classic, and therefore, it will likely be more expensive.
The upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra from Samsung is expected to be similar to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 in terms of features. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is currently priced at $799, which suggests that Samsung may want to outdo Apple with its newest watch. As a result, the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra will likely be priced between $600 and $700.
We fully expect Samsung’s latest watch to offer a larger display than the company’s other watch models. It should also have a rugged design. Again, think the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
The largest Galaxy Watch 6 Classic features a 1.5-inch display with a 47mm watch size. Apple’s measures 49mm, so it’s safe to expect more of the same from Samsung. There isn’t much concrete design information to work with right now, but we’ll keep our eyes out as it pops up.
Whether you’re talking about the Galaxy Watch 6, Apple Watch Series 9 , or another current-generation smartwatch, everyone is basically on the same page when it comes to health- and fitness-tracking features. These watches do everything from measuring heart rate and sleep to step counting and activity tracking to blood oxygen monitoring. Some also include an ECG app and monthly menstrual cycle monitoring.
The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra will undoubtedly offer all of these features, possibly with a couple of updates from previous versions.
What’s missing here? For years, we’ve heard that companies like Samsung and Apple have been working behind the scenes on technology that would allow smartwatches to read a user’s blood sugar through sweat from the wrist. That hasn’t happened yet, however.
There have been rumors that the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra might feature blood sugar monitoring capabilities, which would be a significant breakthrough. However, no concrete evidence exists to support this claim. If it turns out to be true, it would be a game changer in the smartwatch market, and as a Type 2 diabetic, I would be one of the first to purchase it, even if it means abandoning my current Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Battery life for smartwatches has been improving with each new release. The Galaxy Watch 6, for example, can last up to 40 hours on a single charge, while the Apple Watch Ultra 2 can last up to 36 hours with regular use.
Let’s hope Samsung finds a way to push battery life on the Watch 7 Ultra beyond these numbers. Could a three-day battery life on a Samsung or Apple watch be on the horizon? Someday, no doubt, but maybe not this year.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra: what we’d like to see
There have been few leaks about the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra besides rumors of a possible launch this year. If it does arrive, we would like to see a few features.
First, bring us blood sugar monitoring on the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, and imagine a world where millions of folks no longer need to prick themselves several times a day. Also, we’d like to see the new watch arrive with improved battery life. Even increasing the limit to 50 hours between charges would allow it to best the time on current smartwatches.
Finally, let’s see Galaxy AI pick up a new feature or two on the new watch. Samsung is promising big things to come for its mobile devices and AI, and maybe it will deliver with the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra in just a few weeks.

The global Android phone market is expansive beyond comprehension, and brands continually jockey to establish supremacy. Today, it's Realme's turn to lead one such race as it has unveiled the brightest smartphone display that has ever been launched to the general public.
Realme, a spinoff of the Chinese phone brand Oppo (which also birthed OnePlus), announced the GT Neo 6 SE earlier today in China. The phone boasts an impressive juxtaposition of internal hardware, but one that instantly stands tall is the new display. The Realme GT Neo 6 SE features a 6.78-inch OLED display with a spectacular 6,000 nits of brightness -- brighter than the displays on any other phone or consumer device with a screen built into it.
Not long after releasing it for a handful of flagship phones from 2023, Samsung has just announced a substantial update to its Galaxy AI platform. More specifically, a lot more people will soon be able to use Galaxy AI as Samsung is updating it to work with more languages and dialects.
At some point this spring, Galaxy AI will support Arabic, Indonesian, and Russian languages. Samsung's also adding Australian English, Cantonese, and Canadian French dialects.
It looks like Samsung is finally heeding the concerns about camera woes from Galaxy S24 Ultra users and will patch things up with a software update. According to a reliable leak, a software update will take stock of the “telephoto image quality, inaccurate white balance ,and abnormal red color” issues that are currently being reported by users on public forums.
“Too much optimization on 50 MP and 200 MP sensors even when everything is set to minimum,” says one Galaxy S24 Ultra buyer. “I feel like photos taken are always very washed-out and grainy,” notes another owner. “50mp and 200mp is simply useless because of the Intelligent optimization. It's downgrading the pics,” reads a complaint on the official Samsung community forum.
