One of the best activities my travel group and I have done in Prague. We had Vašek and he was amazing! He taught us lots and was so kind to us. If you are in Prague I highly highly recommend doing a beer tour with this company!

Photo of Fernanda S.

I was in Prague, on my own, and since I'm a beer fan decided to try out this tour. It was a very (very) cold night in January, but I was able to score my spot at the tour by going to their office a few hours before it started. The guide was pretty funny and interesting and told us some cool facts about the beer market in Czech Republic. If you have no idea what I am talking about: beer here is like water and they are very proud to make some of the best and most traditional beers in the world. We visited around three micro-breweries and in each of them we were able to talk to the managers (or owners), get a bit of an explanation and sample. By the end of the tour I admit I was a bit tipsy, specially because there was no food or opportunity to eat with the tight schedule we had. At the end we got a beer taster certificate which I still have in my house. Certainly recommend this as a to-do activity if you are in Prague alone or with company.

Photo of Lawrence B.

Great tour! We had "Bob" as our guide, and he was very knowledgable and was also a very nice person to talk to. We went to three different places that each brewed their own beer, and had some sausage snacks at the last one (where you could stay longer and have more beer). The beer variety and quality was very good as well. I went on another beer tour as well on the same trip, with Urban Adventures, and Beer Prague was much better (more beer-centric conversation, better guide/host overall).

Photo of Sharon C.

This is an awesome tour! Vašek was my tour guide, and he gave very informative (of beer, beer making, 3 different microbreweries visited, Czech culture, etc) and fun tour! We talked a lot about how each beer tasted, some very interesting things about breweries, beer/food culture, etc. There were 3 "cultural" stops along the way, which was very interesting. On the last stop, we had a small plate of meat, cheese, etc that went so well with beer! If anyone is interested in (should be!) different Czech beers and learn about Czech's old and recent history, and want a tour that provides undivided attention to you, then this tour will be your best choice!

The legendary “Prague beer tour” of the historical center

Favourite local walking beer tour. The most famous and oldest pubs in the centre of Prague. We will take you through the heart of the Lesser Town and the Old Town and visit original Prague pubs with the best beer, a typical genius loci and a home atmosphere, which are hidden away from the main tourist areas. In a real Czech pub, the rough-and-ready staff don’t ask, if you want “another”, but merely bring you one, even if your glass is still one-third full.

You can meet leading personalities from Czech culture, sports and politics as they engage in lively debate with the regular guests at the table over a Pilsner Urquell.

At the end of the beer tour, you can look forward to refreshments and a demonstration of how to pour Pilsner Urquell beer right at the pub

where it was first offered in Prague in 1843.

The tour includes

  • A live guide and historical commentary

  • Typical beer snacks

The Pinkas Restaurant

The first restaurant in Prague to offer Pilsner Urquell on tap in 1843. Our historical beer tour will finish in the historical cellars there. The talented barman will demonstrate a number of styles of pouring, and you will be able to try typical snacks that go well with the beer.

What Else You Should Know about This Prague Tour

If you love beer, food, culture, and exploring interesting places along with new friends, this Prague beer tour is for you!

  • Chevron down And if I have food restrictions?

We can work our culinary magic to accommodate vegetarian, gluten-free, and most minor food allergies. Just let us know when booking your tour. If you’re a vegan or have a lactose intolerance, we’re afraid we can’t work our magic here in Prague.

  • Chevron down Can I still join if I don't drink beer?

Absolutely! We’re all about accommodating everyone’s taste buds, so we’ll happily arrange for soft drinks or wine instead of beer.

  • Chevron down Everything's covered, right?

In the bars, your guide will be making all the payments, including a tip on your behalf to the staff. We reserve the right to change the course of the tour and places visited in case one of the venues is closed. In the event of a change of menu, we will pick the best alternative, ensuring no loss in quality or quantity of inclusions.

  • Chevron down What should I wear/bring?

Comfort is key on our tours, so we recommend wearing shoes that can handle Prague’s famous cobblestones and dressing for the weather. And don’t forget to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated!

  • Chevron down What if it rains?

Don’t worry, we won’t let a little rain dampen our spirits! Just make sure to check the weather forecast and come prepared with an umbrella.

  • Chevron down Is the tour accessible for people with disabilities?
  • If you can handle walking 5K to 10K steps a day without any mobility issues, you’ll be just fine. But if you need a little extra TLC, a private tour can be tailored to your needs. We can even arrange for a car or an Uber/Bolt ride to get you from place to place.

If you’re up for a leisurely stroll on some slightly uneven and cobblestone streets, then you’re good to go. Just be prepared to take around 4K – 5K steps throughout the tour. But hey, if you need a little extra love and care, don’t worry! We can arrange a private tour that’s tailored to your needs. We’re even happy to help you snag a ride from place to place via car or Uber/Bolt. So go ahead, and let us know how we can make this tour a smooth and enjoyable ride for you.

  • Chevron down Can I bring children along?
  • We generally don’t recommend bringing children on this tour as there is a lot of alcohol involved. But in case you decide to bring your teenagers along, we can accommodate them with non-alcoholic alternatives.
  • Chevron down Are the bars we'll be visiting crowded with tourists or mostly frequented by locals?

We’re going to take you off the beaten path and steer clear of those overpriced tourist traps. Instead, we’ll be hitting up the local hotspots where the true Prague foodies go to get their fix. So get ready to indulge in some authentic eats and drinks like a local!

  • Chevron down How many people are in the tour group?

Our Beer tour is a cozy and intimate experience, with no more than 10 people in the group. We want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to savor every ale and engage with the local culture. If you prefer a more personalized tour with your own tribe, you can also book it as a private tour HERE .

  • Chevron down What’s the tipping policy in the Czech Republic?

Tipping is not obligatory, but it is always much appreciated and welcome. In general, you can aim at 10%, but only if you’re happy with the services you received.

  • Chevron down What is your cancellation policy?

We totally get it, sometimes plans change. As long as you let us know 24 hours before your tour, we can either reschedule or give you a full refund.

What an amazing experience. Not to be missed when visiting Prague. Our guide Johanka was one of the best. She thought of everything to make our experience memorable and informative. She provided the high quality that makes Viator such a great and reliable company.

This tour was fantastic! It was probably my favorite part of our trip and I am not even the real beer lover in our family. Vojta was an amazing guide. He knew so much about both beer and about Prague in general. The tour was a great way to see parts of the city we would not have explored on our own.

Our beer tour with Misa was fabulous. She is delightful and it was a super fun evening, with her and other like minded, fun travelers. She took us away from the tourist area to several pubs and recommended the specialties at each place. Lots of food too! Would definitely recommend for a fun night in Prague!

Wonderful tour!! Vojta was a great guide, fun and very knowledgeable. We went to several local pubs outside of the Prague city center via the tram . It was fun to leave the tourist area and visit local places. Great way to taste and learn about many different (not just pilsners) local beers in Prague. My husband and I had a great evening and enjoyed this tour!

Excellent four hours spent exploring some of Prague’s locally pubs and breweries, our tour guide was exceptional with both knowledge and passion for beer and the city but also in listening to stories we shared to make it an enjoyable night for all.

I had a great time with Guillaume on the Czech beer and tapas tour! We got out of the touristy areas and saw craft beer from a local's perspective. I'd recommend this tour to any beer lover who wants to see more of the city and learn about the beer culture in Prague. Thanks Guillaume!!

Really great tour of the local beer pubs with Vojtech. So much fun and informative!! Vojta is a lot of fun. We enjoyed it very much!!! Thanks!

This tour is a beer-lovers dream, and equally great for anyone looking to enjoy a great evening in Prague. Martin was so knowledgeable and passionate about beer and Prague's rich beer history. We enjoyed hearing the stories of how beer became such an important part of the culture in Prague, as well as the experience at some of the most historic, interesting, and fun places for a drink in the city. Loved it!

The beer tour was a lot of fun. Martin was an excellent and knowledgeable guide. We had a great time and saw some parts of Prague that we hadn’t explored yet.

The Best Beer Breweries in Prague

Top breweries in prague prague's best breweries, list of the most authentic breweries in prague with great tasting czech beers..

The Czech Republic in general and also Prague itself is very famous for its high quality beer. There are giant beer brands like Pilsner Urquell, Staropramen and Budweiser Budvar, but there are also less known ones like local microbreweries Pivovar Národní or Loď Pivovar.

If you want to enjoy the best beer like a local and also with the locals, you are welcome to check out our list of breweries in Prague where we show you historical breweries, famous breweries, and also the ones lesser known. But the one thing they all share in common is the well refined beer making process with the end produce of excellent draft beer. U Fleků Pub and Brewery

This beautiful old pub is dating to 1499. U Fleků brewery and restaurant  is known for its fascinating history as well as for very good beer and local folkloric music. The beer has been produced at U Fleků for more than 500 year. Yes, it all sounds great and due to that reason this brewery is extremely busy and it is definitely recommended to make a reservation. Even though there are eight beer halls and also a  beer garden it can still easily fill up with large family gathers and tourist groups, so places are limited. U Fleků brewery prepares fresh beer every week. The famous Flekovský ležák 13° is a strong, heavy dark lager with a very nice, smooth taste. We recommend complementing it with a delicious traditional Czech meal which are served here. If you come during the day, you can also visit their own beer museum or enjoy a brewery tour and buy some of their commemorative beer souvenirs.

Contact: Křemencova 11, 110 00 Nové Město, Praha 1 https://en.ufleku.cz/

Strahov Monastery Brewery

In Czech it is called Klašterní Pivovar Strahov, and you guessed it – it is located in a former monastery located just a few minutes walk from the Prague castle. This beautiful historical brewery is also a restaurant  with a courtyard beer garden. The service and meals here are also top-notch which is reflected in the price, although it is well worth it for the quality and atmosphere.

This historical microbrewery is definitely one of the best ones in Prague and it is also considering an incredible experience for any visitors to Prague. The beers produces here nowadays follow a modern trend more than traditional Czech lager recipies. The style of beers goes more towards the German types of wheat beers, IPA beers and also variety of rich dark beers.  Considering that monks were some of the world’s earliest and best beer brewers, you will definitely not make a bad choice by visiting this Monastery brewery above the Prague Castle.

Staropramen Brewery in Prague

The second largest brewery within the Czech Republic is found in Prague 5’s neighborhood of Smíchov, just on the banks of the Vltava River. Originally established in 1869, this traditional brewery totes itself as the brewery of the people. It’s neighborhood was once the industrial center of the city and there is still evidence from the many large factory buildings that surround it.The brewery has owns and operates a chain of Staropramen restaurants found throughout the country, under the name of Potrefená Husa. The one located at the brewery itself is Potrefená Husa Na Verandách (The Wounded Goose on the Porch).

If you are looking to have a more authentic experience with less crowds than you might find in the Strahov or U Fleků breweries, then head on over the Staropramen Brewery and see the beer production happening on a large scale with a tour of the brewery, followed by some crisp, cold brews in their exquisite restaurant among a local crowd. If you visit, be sure to try the Nefiltrovaný, one of their specialty beers, which is non-filtered and therefore richer and more full-bodied in taste and texture.

Contact : Nádražní 43/84, 150 00 Praha 5 https://pivovary-staropramen.cz/en

Pivovarský Dům

Brewery Pivovarský Dům is popular with tourists and non-traditional local beer drinkers.  It is a brewery and restaurant producing not only an excellent classic Czech lager, but also modern beers with some extremely distinct and unique flavors. You can sample from the variety of craft beers with tastes such as coffee, sour cherry, blueberry, nettle or banana flavors. And there is a Russian Imperial Stout which is a must try if you love the combination of coffee and chocolate. You can also find a specialty beer called  “Šamp” – the beer champagne, which even non-drinks tend to fall in love with.

Pivovarský Dům also offers more traditional flavored beers such as signature beer the Štěpán (Stephen) beer which comes in both a classic pale Czech lager and a classic dark Czech lager, both of which are unfiltered and unpasteurized.

The food is also another draw for the brewery. If you are there to try some beer, then you should definitely order the ‘Beer Soup’ and ‘Brewer’s goulash with dumplings’ which are the perfect combination for a beer tasting. There is also a whole section of the menu devoted to ‘Little Things That Go Well With Beer’ such as marinated sausages, beer cheese spread, fried bread with garlic and a cheese spread with garlic.

New Town Brewery

Novoměstský Pivovar or New Town Brewery is located in the heart of Prague just around the corner from the most famous square in the Czech Republic, Wenceslas Square in the New Town of Prague. Opening in 1993 after the fall of the communist regime, this brewery was the first to open in the 20th century in Prague. The experience there is both what you would hope when dining at a brewery, as well as one which you couldn’t have imagined.

Upon entering, the emblematic copper tanks full of crisp, golden liquid are in plain sight, causing your mouth to start watering immediately. While this has become quite common among smaller microbreweries now, what will surprise you is that while the brewery doesn’t look exceptional large from the street, once you enter you’ll find yourself in a maze of rooms, hallways and alcoves, which allow for a more intimate setting than some of the larger breweries.

The brewery tour is highly recommended as visitors learn the details of the beer making process and even learn the secrets to the recipe. What sets Novoměstský Pivovar apart from other breweries is that it is the only microbrewery in Prague which uses Pivovice, or distilled beer spirits, from its own beer. A brewery tour will allow you to sample some of this Pivovice.

One of the newer microbreweries in the center of Prague is called in Czech Pivovar Národní, or the National Brewery as it is located just steps from the National Theater. Pivovar Národní opened in 2015 in the Voršilský Monastery which dates back to the 17th Century. This brewery sets itself apart from other breweries in town and throughout the Czech Republic in its fearless attitude in regards to experimenting with new beers and new flavors.

While always offering its signature Czech Lion in both filtered and unfiltered forms, and a semi-dark lager, there is also some special and mysterious waiting on tap for all beer drinkers to enjoy. In the past they have crafted delicious brews such as the Golden Rooster, the Crazy Mustang, the Wild Tiger IPA, the Fatty Rabbit APA, the Lionfish, and the Frog Prince. They seem to thoroughly enjoy scripting creative new names to their beers as they do to crafting the drink itself and what is more fun than drinking a ‘Fatty Rabbit APA’?

Boat Brewery in Prague

Why not experience beer from somewhere other than dry land? Come aboard the Boat Brewery on River Vltava in the center of Prague. There are three mouth-pleasing pilsners beer on draft permanently and wide selection of special beers chosen according the season. If you want to enjoy fascinating beers with a fascinating view, come to the Loď Pivovar. From any of the ships 3 decks, visitors and beer lovers can sip away at their favorite brew while enjoying looking out on the Vltava River, across the way towards Letna Park or upstream to have a magnificent view of the Prague Castle. If you look towards shore, you’ll be able to take in the architectural wonders of Prague’s houses and buildings which line the riverfront.

The history of the Lod Pivovar dates back to the early 1960’s when it was christened the Sanssouci in Potsdam, Germany as the flagship of the Potsdam White fleet. It operated between 1962 and 1998 It was later renovated and sold, becoming part of another fleet of ships, under the name Adler Queen. Between 1998 and 2004 the fleet offered transportation on the Oder River between Germany and Poland. Following that stint, the beautiful boat was renamed again to the Classic Queen and served from 2004 – 2015 as an entertainment ship around the Hamburg area. was reconstructed in 2016 and made into to a unique project microbrewery and boat restaurant. It was finally bought by a Czech businessman in 2015 who performed another full renovation to the ship and set it down in Prague to act as a restaurant and pivovar.

U Medvídků, which translates to ‘By the Bear’ is found in the epicenter of Prague as it is equal walking distance to the Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square. The whole facility is beer themed. At the entrance the hotel reception is framed with the characteristic copper pipes found in breweries. It is the only hotel which also has a brewery, due to the fact that it was a 15th Century house and former medieval brewery, later converted into a hotel with 45 uniquely decorated rooms. If you really love beer, then considering staying a few nights here and enjoy fresh beer from the tap which is found in your hotel room!

By the Bear also claims to have the STRONGEST BEER IN THE WORLD, although it is closer to the strongest beer made in the Czech Republic in terms of the ABV (alcohol by volume) indicator. This XBEER is 33° which is a local Czech way of measuring the alcohol levels in beer. (most lagers are between 10 and 12°).

Sousedský Pivovar Bašta

“The Neighborhood brewery Bašta” is one of the most authentic local microbreweries recommended by Restaurant Guru in 2019.  This authentic place is located in the laid-back neighborhood of Nusle frequented mostly by Czechs. It is right next to the Restaurant U Bansethů, its sister place.  Since its opening in 2007 this brewery has developed a cult-like following as it receives permanent visitors who sometimes do not mind travelling dozens of kilometres to get there. The beers produced there can not be tasted anywhere else. We definitely recommend sampling the beer alongside its famous duck dish. The food is really good (nothing fancy, just simply good) and the beers has won various awards since its founding. If you or you friends are really not that into beer, there is also some exceptional cider available and all of it can be enjoyed at their beer garden which is available during the summer.

Vinohradský Pivovar

Located in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Prague, Vinohradský Pivovar – named for its neighborhood of Vinohrady – was only founded in 2014, making it one of the youngest breweries in Prague which is as popular and well-known as some of the some of the oldest breweries. Its interior is a cool, modern vision of the more traditional pivovars found in the Czech Republic. Unlike the darker wooden walls and floor boards, Vinohradský Pivovar is a bright white with lighter colored wooden frames and floors. There are large windows letting in lots of light and huge interior windows which allow the patrons to take a peak at the enormous steel barrels that are constantly brewing the delicious amber liquid that they are all sipping on.

Vinohradský Pivovar brews the typical Czech pilsners and unfiltered lagers but they also experiment and have some fresh batches to taste whenever you visit. They offer many IPAs and APA, which is unique from many of the other breweries on this list. The IPA 14, which is a amber-colored top-fermented special beer at 5.9%. The Imperial IPA 19 is a stronger top-fermented light beer, acquiring its unique color, taste and potency (7.9%) by using the twice the amount of malt and hops that most of its other beers. There is also an Ahtanum IPA with citrus notes and floral aromas (6%). The LIberator APA is much lighter at only 4.5%, named for the American bomber Consolidated B-24 Liberator, it is considered a light summer beer.
