Blackpool Transport launches new routes

Blackpool Transport launch reimagined new bus routes to create better frequencies, direct connections and more choices to travel with.    Blackpool Transport’s new bus network launches on Sunday 7th January 2024. Routes are now grouped together to provide more options and improved frequencies for customers travelling across the Fylde Coast.    New timetables have been produced which show the improved reliability of routes, together with information about new routes. Blackpool Transport now serves Blackpool Zoo and Whitehills Business Park. All of the improvements are eligible for the Government’s £2 Fare Cap, which means Blackpool Transport’s fares are still available at the same value for money.   The number 5 group of buses now go to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, creating a 15-minute frequency between Blackpool and the hospital. The 11 group of buses serve Lytham and St Annes, meaning there is now a bus up to every 12 minutes from Blackpool. The 3 group and the 7 group of buses which serve Cleveleys will also provide strong links between Cleveleys and Blackpool Town Centre, both operating at a combined 15-minute frequency.   Overall, Blackpool Transport’s new routes mean more options to travel between popular destinations and improved reliability.    James Clough, Blackpool Transport’s Finance and Commercial Director has said, “We’re very excited to introduce our reimagined bus network to Blackpool. A typical week for us sees 300,000 customers travelling all over from Blackpool to Fleetwood, Lytham and as far as Preston. This new network is designed to create more options for those customers to reach their destinations and make it easier to navigate our routes. It also makes travel more convenient by providing new direct links and enhanced frequencies during peak times.”   Blackpool Transport’s dedicated Street Team have been active across the network for several weeks wearing their brightly coloured hoodies, interacting with customers and handing out leaflets ahead of the launch.   Full details about these changes are available at blackpooltransport.com , including new timetables and network maps. Printed timetables and leaflets will be available in public information centres such as libraries.    For further enquiries, contact Blackpool Transport directly.

Getting around Blackpool as a business delegate is essential to make the most of your time in the resort, and thanks to our wide range of transport links and options, it couldn't be easier!

Blackpool Transport

Blackpool Transport is the primary provider of public transport in the resort, offering bus and tram services. With day or weekly passes, you can get unlimited access to both buses and trams to take between your business accommodation and events venue as often as you like. Whatsmore, Blackpool Transport will be carbon neutral by 2025 following the arrival of a new electric bus fleet.

As well as the modern European-style trams, heritage trams still operate as a tourist attraction. An iconic part of Blackpool's heritage, riding the heritage trams is an excellent way to see the resort's sights whilst travelling to or from your conference centre or serviced accommodation.

Buses are also a convenient and popular mode of transport around the town, with routes that cover most parts of the resort, including many popular Blackpool hotels and exhibition spaces, as well as the surrounding villages and towns including Lytham St. Annes, Cleveleys and Poulton.

The Blackpool Transport mobile app has everything you need to get around the Fylde Coast on Blackpool Transport’s buses and trams. Track your buses and trams in real time, plan your journeys and buy your tickets in advance, it's an all-in-one travel assistant. You can download the the free Blackpool Transport app here.

Taxis are available in Blackpool and can be pre-booked to collect you from your event space or hotel, or hailed on the street. There's a wide range of vendors available, and our Meet Blackpool team will be able to point you in the right direction of recommended providers if you require a more direct and private mode of transport.

If you prefer to drive yourself to and from your conference or accommodation, several popular car rental companies operate in Blackpool, including Avis, Europcar, and Enterprise. Our Meet Blackpool expert team will be able to advise you on parking availability during your event planning process and when recommending venues to hire or Blackpool accommodation.

Walking and cycling

Blackpool is a relatively small resort with many of the resort's attractions, hotels and conference venues within walking distance of each other. Walking is an excellent way to explore the resort, take in the sights, and get some exercise.

Cycling is also an option, with several cycle routes in and around the resort.

Hiring a private car and driver

For a more luxurious and hassle-free experience, you can hire a private car and driver to take you around Blackpool. Several companies offer this service, and it can be a convenient way to get around the resort, especially if you're in a group. Hire fees will vary, but our Meet Blackpool team will be able to recommend vendors.

What is Active Travel?

Active travel means making journeys by walking, cycling or scooting. These are usually short journeys, like walking to the shops, walking the kids to school, cycling to work, or cycling to the station to catch a commuter train for example. Active Travel is where you swap motorised transport for active methods instead.

What are the benefits?

Many people don’t realise that physical activity has significant benefits for health, both physical and mental, and can help to prevent and manage over 20 chronic conditions and diseases, including some cancers, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and depression.

Physical activity is associated with many improvements in health and wellbeing, including lower death rates, and lower risk of heart problems and depression. It benefits people of all ages, ranging from helping children maintain a healthy weight to reducing conditions such as hip fractures in frail older people. As the former chief medical officer noted: “The potential benefits of physical activity to health are huge. If a medication existed which had a similar effect, it would be regarded as a ‘wonder drug’ or ‘miracle cure’.

Our Partners

Living streets.

Living Streets work within the Blackpool borough to focus on increasing walking rates through interventions.

They have Walk to School projects and Walk to Work projects. The walk to school project for primary schools is called WOW, a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably e.g. walk, cycle or scoot once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. Each month has a different badge to collect. For post primary settings they offer Next Steps, targeted at transition students to build their confidence and independence.

Walking works is the Living Streets programme for embedding a culture of walking into workplaces. The programme starts with a consultation to find out the unique needs of an organisation and from there, their expert staff advise on a range of suitable initiatives to increase walking rates amongst your staff.

For more information visit the Living Streets website

Cycling UK focus on increasing cycling rates through interventions. They focus on both The Bike Revival and Community cycling clubs. The Big Bike Revival programme is for people returning to cycling, or those starting as a complete beginner. The Big Bike Revival is a series of free local events, which are hosted by local organisations. Events vary but people may be able to get their bikes checked and fixed, learn how to fix bikes, learn how to ride a bike, or go on a led group bike ride – all for free. For any information about these events delivered through Active Blackpool, please don’t hesitate to contact [email protected]

Community Cycle Clubs are at the heart of our programme to bring about sustained change and to encourage more people to cycle. A Community Cycle Club is a group of people who come together to do cycling for whatever purpose they choose. The programme connects individuals to their community to build social networks, feel well and enjoy being active by cycling. The aim could be to reduce isolation, improve health and wellbeing, develop skills and education, or just have fun.

Travel suggestions from Moscow - Vnukovo Airport (VKO)

Explore russia’s capital city.

Moscow is a vibrant mix of old and new: Mother Russia meets Modern Russia. Visitors can enjoy cultural artefacts like the treasures found in the Armoury or the varied delights of the Kremlin Museums. High-brow, low-brow, any-brow will be raised in amazement at one of the performances at the world-renowned Bolshoi Theatre. The six-tier auditorium is the perfect place to take in an evening of dance and music. To really get in touch with the modern Russia, there is a thriving nightlife that has something for everyone. On a warm summer day a trip to the city’s green lung, Gorky Park, is truly essential.

They will contact immigration, customs and the airline to find out where you could possibly be. Your driver will only leave if, after these attempts, there is no sign of your whereabouts. If your arrival is delayed, please contact your supplier on the numbers provided on your voucher. This way we can inform your driver to ensure they are there to pick you up when you finally arrive.
