What to Do in Cannes

The list of things to see in Cannes is long! Here are our favorite Cannes attractions and things to do for your next holiday to Cannes.

1. Explore Le Suquet

cannes open tour

Most of Cannes is sleek and modern, but Le Suquet is another story. Le Suquet is Cannes’ oldest neighborhood and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Cannes. Looming above the city, you can wander through the streets enjoying the pastel-colored buildings that have stood since the 18th and 19th centuries.

Originally a Roman settlement, Le Suquet is today a maze of narrow, ascending streets, underground bars, and family restaurants, so take the time to wander and explore this lovely neighborhood. Here, you will also find a medieval castle, one of Cannes’ tourist attractions, and home to the Musée de la Castre .

2. Take a Stroll along La Croisette

cannes open tour

La Croisette Walkway is one of the most popular streets in the city and all of France. It runs along Cannes’ seafront, and a stroll along this iconic street is one of the best things to do in Cannes.

This walkway not only has all the charm and beauty of the beach close by, but it’s also filled with the best shops, restaurants, and casinos in the entire city. You could spend hours exploring the designer boutiques along this walkway, which would make for a delightful afternoon.

3. Visit the Old Port

cannes open tour

The Old Port is an area that perfectly mixes the old and the new, making it one of the top Cannes attractions. It’s located at the foot of the Le Suquet neighborhood and overlooked by the charm of a medieval castle, which makes it a curious sight compared to the luxury yachts that crowd the port.

This is where the rich come to moor up and enjoy the charms of Cannes as it offers beautiful sunrise and sunset views. There are also a number of chic bars and restaurants along the Quai Saint-Pierre, so choose one and settle in to enjoy the atmosphere.

In September, the Old Port hosts the Cannes Yachting Festival , one of the largest boat shows in Europe and one of the best things to do in Cannes for boat lovers.

4. A Lazy Day on the Beach

cannes open tour

If you’re trying to decide what to do in Cannes, why not just hang out on the beach? Cannes has some of the best beaches on the French Riviera , and they’re definitely the place to see and be seen, making them one of the top things to do in Cannes.

Cannes has both private and public beaches. The private ones are closer to the main street and can be expensive, while the public ones are more natural and have fewer amenities. Check out Carlton Beach for waiter service while you enjoy the sun, Long Beach for events, or Plage de la Bocca for a glimpse of everyday life in Cannes.

5. Admire the View from La Croix des Gardes

cannes open tour

Located on a hill overlooking the city behind the Suquet neighborhood, La Croix des Gardes is a Sensitive Natural Space nicknamed the ‘green lung’ of Cannes. Indeed, the large forest park of the Croix des Gardes constitutes a unique reserve for the fauna and flora of Provence and a great place for short hikes or to enjoy the view.

6. Visit Villa Rothschild

cannes open tour

Located in the La Croix-des-Gardes neighborhood, Villa Rothschild is a historic mansion built in 1881 for Betty Rothschild, the widow of James Mayer de Rothschild. This stately old building, designed in neo-classic style, is surrounded by stunning English-style gardens filled with exotic species like palm trees and blue cedars.

When you’re looking for things to see in Cannes, make sure you take a walking tour through the villa to enjoy the amazing architecture and the sheer luxury that went into every stone of its construction. Both the mansion and the surrounding gardens are listed as historical monuments.

7. Take a Catamaran Tour

cannes open tour

Some of the best things to do in Cannes aren’t actually in the city itself. Cannes is located right on the coast of the Mediterranean, and it can also be explored from the sea. That’s why there are numerous catamaran tours on offer.

You can choose a full-day tour or a half-day tour. Top up your tan as you relax onboard, and enjoy some time to swim and snorkel in the gorgeous waters of the Mediterranean. You can also sail to the Calanques of the Esterel Natural Park or to Saint-Tropez from Cannes. Who could resist that?

Most popular catamaran tours from Cannes:

  • Sunset boat tour (1.5 hrs)
  • Half-day catamaran cruise (3 hrs)
  • Half-day catamaran cruise with lunch (4 hrs)
  • Discover the Calanques of the Esterel (2.5 hrs)
  • Full day catamaran cruise with lunch
  • Discover St. Tropez by boat (full day)

8. Taste Local Food at Marché Forville

cannes open tour

When you visit Cannes, don’t miss the opportunity to taste the local food. The Marché Forville is one of the best places to visit in Cannes to taste Provencal specialties, including the famous socca. The socca is a Cannes staple which consists of a thin pancake made from chickpea flour, water, salt, and olive oil cooked over a wood fire and seasoned with pepper. The socca is eaten hot, right out of the oven.

This covered market has a great atmosphere and is a real invitation to a gourmet trip to Provence with seasonal products, local fishing, and flowers. You can also explore the many shops and terraces that surround it. The Marché Forville is held in the heart of Cannes and is open every morning, except Monday.

9. Cannes’ Palais des Festivals & Walk of Stars

cannes open tour

The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès (the full name) is a cultural and congress center famous for hosting the world-famous Cannes Film Festival every May. Even if you visit Cannes outside of the festival dates, you can have your photo taken on the red-carpeted steps, which have become a hallmark of the festival. You can also attend one of the many cultural performances that take place there, whether it is concerts, plays, ballets or comedy shows.

Cannes’s Walk of Stars ( Chemin des Étoiles ) is a copy of the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a unique local twist. Instead of having stars with signatures, the Walk of Stars in Cannes has palm prints and signatures.

There are over 150 handprints in the Cannes Walk of Stars, and they’re located in front of the Palais des Festivals on Esplanade Pompidou and the surrounding parks. In this famous walk, some of the handprints you’ll see belong to Meryl Streep, Julie Andrews, and Sylvester Stallone.

10. Day Trip to the Lérins Islands

cannes open tour

The Lérins Islands are a group of four islands located just 20 minutes across the bay from Cannes. The islands have been inhabited since Roman times, but only two larger islands are popular tourist spots today.

If you are wondering what to see in Cannes out of the beaten path, one of the Lérins Islands is always a good option. Île Sainte-Marguerite is the first of the larger islands. It’s easy to access by ferry and has amazing beaches and a quiet vibe that makes it a good choice if you want some peace away from Cannes. It’s also the location of the Fort of St. Marguerite, where the famous Man in the Iron Mask was once held prisoner – Click here to book your ferry tickets to Sainte-Marguerite Island

The second island, Île Saint-Honorat , is also accessible from Cannes by boat, run by the monks who live on the island. Here, the 11th-century monastery and the church on the island are worth visiting.

And there you have it, the best things to do in Cannes France, and our top recommendations on tours, hotels, and more for the perfect holiday to Cannes.

You can spend a day exploring the streets of Monte Carlo, trying your luck at the famous casinos, or just enjoying a luxurious meal and shopping.

I recommend checking out the beautiful garden in Monaco, which is located on the grounds of the Royal Palace. This scenic garden is perfect for anyone looking to relax, as well as those who enjoy a good photo op!

If you’re interested in seeing all that the Côte d’Azur has to offer, I would highly recommend taking a day trip to either Nice or Monaco-Monte Carlo.

Both of these cities are easily accessible from Cannes by train or bus, so you can plan an excursion with ease.

The most efficient way is by train – you can take an SNCF train from the Cannes train station to Nice for about 20 euros, and the trip takes about an hour. Monaco can also be reached by train for around the same price, and is about 20 minutes longer than the trip to Nice.

You could even take a guided tour from Cannes that stops in Nice and Monaco and includes a walking tour of both cities.

The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will kick off with Quentin Dupieux ‘s “The Second Act,” a star-studded surreal French comedy headlined by Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon , Louis Garrel and Raphaël Quenard, Variety has learned.

The anticipated movie is produced by Hugo Selignac at Chi-Fou-Mi, a Mediawan company, and is represented in international markets by Kinology. The film will play out of competition on May 14 and will be released on the same day in French theaters.

The premiere of “The Second Act” on opening night at Cannes will mark Dupieux’s debut in the festival’s out-of-competition section. He previously presented “Smoking Causes Coughing” which played in the Midnight Screenings section. His best-known credits include “Rubber,” a California desert-set horror comedy; the Sundance-premiering film “Wrong”; and “Deerskin,” which bowed at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight.

The Cannes Film Festival also revealed that the glamorous opening night red carpet for “The Second Act” will bring together a flurry of French stars who previously starred in Dupieux’s movies, including Alain Chabat, Benoît Poelvoorde, Jean Dujardin, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Léa Drucker, Benoît Magimel, Anaïs Demoustier, Vincent Lacoste, Gilles Lellouche, Édouard Baer and Pio Marmaï.

While the selection remains under wraps, the festival recently confirmed that George Miller’s “Furiosa” will play at the festival. Other hotly anticipated films rumored to be part of this year’s Cannes roster include Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness,” the helmer’s mysterious follow-up to “Poor Things,” which reunites him with Emma Stone and distributor Searchlight Pictures; Jacques Audiard’s musical melodrama “Emilia Perez” starring Zoë Saldaña and Selena Gomez; David Cronenberg ’s “The Shrouds” starring Vincent Cassel and Diane Kruger; Babak Anvari’s “Hallow Road” starring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys; Audrey Diwan’s “Emmanuelle” starring Noemie Merlant and Noemie Watts; Gilles Lellouche’s “L’Amour Ouf” starring Adele Exarchopoulos and Francois Civil; Andrea Arnold’s “Bird” starring Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski; and possibly Francis Ford Coppola ‘s self-produced epic “Megalopolis” with Adam Driver and Forest Whitaker.

Tennis Australia sends ATP Tour warning over Saudi Arabia Masters tournament

In a thinly veiled warning that could portend an increasingly nasty battle between two of the most powerful entities in tennis, the owners of the Australian Open have notified the leadership of the men’s tour that they would consider any attempt to schedule a tournament in Saudi Arabia during the first week of the season as a request for a potential “breach” of an existing contract between the two organizations.

Tennis Australia sent the message last week, in a letter notifying the ATP Tour that it had decided not to bid to host the proposed event . However, the Australians also used the letter, a copy of which The Athletic has reviewed, to outline their staunch opposition to the ATP Tour’s plans. They sought to make it clear that the tour should seriously consider the consequences of its efforts to disrupt a professional tennis calendar that now kicks off entirely in Australia and New Zealand, headlined by the United Cup, a mixed-team international event that began last season and attracts some of the top players in the world.

“Tennis Australia has an existing agreement with the ATP and the WTA for the United Cup in Week 1, which is active through 2029 with options to extend,” Jayne Hrdlicka and Craig Tiley, the chair and chief executive of Tennis Australia, wrote in the letter dated April 24. “The players value the event, as does Tennis Australia.”

“We do not enter agreements lightly and neither do we take lightly being asked to breach an existing agreement.”

The letter is the latest salvo in a 10-month battle that began as a fight about the start of the season but has turned into a duel over control of the sport between the Grand Slams and the ATP and WTA tours.

The Grand Slams favor a streamlined elite tennis tour with 14 events, including the Grand Slams, that keeps in place a schedule that climaxes four times a year with their tournaments, both geographically and in terms of the court surfaces. The existing ATP and WTA tours are trying to maintain something like the status quo, only more of it, with one more big tournament and some more money, thanks to a significant investment from Saudi Arabia , which is vying to become the host of that tournament.

cannes open tour

The battle has dominated off-the-court conversations and turned what had, for years, been largely polite interchanges among the eight entities that oversee the professional game into a fierce, existential fight for control of the sport and the billions of dollars it produces .

It is playing out at a crucial moment for the game as it transitions from two decades of growth thanks, in large part, to stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, who have retired or are on the way there.

With all their careers ending in the coming years, the sport’s leaders know they need to market a new generation of stars and make it easier for fans to make sense of the hundreds of tournaments that happen each year while also meeting player demands for a schedule that does not overtax their bodies and allows them to share in the sport’s riches the way elite athletes in other realms do.

At the moment, the fight over the start of the season is the primary battleground.

Inside tennis' corridors of power: A fractured hall of mirrors where nothing is as it seems

In the letter to the ATP, Tiley and Hrdlicka, who announced in February she would step down as the chief executive of Virgin Australia Airlines, argued that maintaining the schedule is in the best interests of the health and financial wellbeing of the players and the sport . There’s also the matter of the massive financial windfall and media interest that it provides for its organization in the run-up to its signature event.

“We have worked hard to establish an Australian January as one of the most lucrative months of the year for the players,” Tiley and Hrdlicka wrote. They argued that the warm-up events to the Australian Open, including the United Cup, allow players to get into peak condition for one of the four biggest events of the year as most of them adjust to the Southern Hemisphere and a radically different time zone.

“The Australian Open cannot be moved,” they wrote, “so having an event in another geographic region — with an eight-hour time zone difference, different climactic conditions and a 15-hour flight — is clearly damaging to player preparation for a Grand Slam.”

cannes open tour

They added that the current format allows fans to easily digest the start of the year and suggested that starting in Saudi Arabia, with a tournament one level below a Grand Slam, would only add to fan confusion. Under that proposal, the players — and the watching tennis world — would head to Saudi Arabia, then head to Australia, then head back to the Middle East in February for existing tournaments in Doha and Dubai.

“As a sport, our goal should be to simplify the structure of the tour in the eyes of the fans, dramatically improve the fan narrative and better leverage the Grand Slams to drive viewership of the tour. All of that is compromised with an event in Week 1 — hurting our ability as a sport to better remunerate the players.”

The ATP has said little of its plans regarding the specifics of the new tournament, which is likely to begin in 2027. The request for bids did not specify the exact timing of the tournament but rather stated that it would be held during a 60-day window in January or February. The new tournament is a significant part of its plans to bring what it has said could be roughly $1billion of new investment into tennis.

Inside Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in sport

  • Why the country bought into Premier League soccer
  • Golf, F1 and cycling… why they are buying sport
  • The 2034 World Cup and what it means

The leaders of the women’s circuit, the WTA, have largely been in lockstep with the ATP in its efforts to head off the effort from the Grand Slams to create the slimmed-down premium tour, which would lessen the importance of the vast majority of ATP and WTA tournaments. However, a new men’s event in the first week that threatens the viability of the United Cup — which offers a combined prize money pot of $10million — would jeopardize one of the most lucrative events of the year for female players.

The WTA did not participate in the request for proposals for a new tournament, under which Saudi Arabia stated its interest in hosting a Masters 1000 for men and women. The owners of the top women’s tournaments would have to approve such a move, and the WTA does not see an open spot in its calendar. It does not want to ask its players to play more than they already do.

How to fix tennis

Three people who participated in the discussions, who have spoken on condition of anonymity to describe the private talks, said the bickering about the first week of the season has been a fight for leverage in the larger battle about whether to create a premium tour.

The ATP, with the tacit approval of the WTA, is unwilling to abandon the possibility of holding the new tournament in January until the Grand Slams promise not to devalue tour events by creating a new premium tour. Tennis Australia and the other three Grand Slams are unwilling to give up the push for the premium tour without an assurance that the ATP and WTA will not disrupt the current rhythm of the schedule.

There is an obvious compromise, the people say — holding the new Masters 1000 in February, after the Australian Open. However, with tensions still rising, the environment is not conducive to reaching a middle ground.

Cannes Competition Title ‘Grand Tour' Debuts Trailer, Director Miguel Gomes' Next Film to Be ‘Savagery' (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety has been granted exclusive access to the trailer (below) for Portuguese director Miguel Gomes' "Grand Tour," which will have its world premiere in Cannes Film Festival's Competition section. Variety can also exclusively reveal that that distribution on "Grand Tour" will be handled in France by Tandem, and in Italy by Lucky Red, and that Gomes' next film will be "Savagery."

"Grand Tour" kicks off in 1917 in Burma. It centers on Edward, a civil servant for the British Empire, who runs away from his fiancée Molly the day she arrives to get married. During his travels, however, panic gives way to melancholy. Contemplating the emptiness of his existence, the cowardly Edward wonders what has become of Molly… Determined to get married and amused by Edward's move, Molly follows his trail on this Asian grand tour.

The film stars Gonçalo Waddington and Crista Alfaiate, and the cast also includes Cláudio da Silva and Lang Khê Tran. It is being sold by The Match Factory.

"Grand Tour" is produced by Uma Pedra No Sapato (Portugal) in co-production with Vivo Film (Italy), Shellac Sud (France) and Cinema Defacto (France), in association with The Match Factory (Germany), Rediance (China) and Creatps Inc. (Japan), and with the participation of ZDF/ARTE and RTP.

Gomes was previously in Cannes in 2015 with "Arabian Nights" and in 2021 with "The Tsugua Diaries." His 2012 film "Tabu" played at the Berlinale.

Speaking to Variety , the film's producer Filipa Reis explains how the project came together.

It was over dinner with Reis that Gomes first presented his idea for the film, in which narrative sequences shot in a studio would be intercut with footage of contemporary Asia. "The idea was… I don't know… very appealing and charming," says Reis, who was a co-producer on "The Tsugua Diaries." Gomes then asked her to produce it.

The plan was for Gomes to take a small documentary-style crew to seven Asian countries – Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Japan and China – shooting in 16mm so "that we could build this archive and then to write the script according to what was found," Reis says.

They started pre-production in 2019, and Gomes then commenced his own grand tour of Asia, beginning in 2020. The shoot was interrupted by COVID, just as they were about to travel by boat to Shanghai, and then a local crew finished the shoot in China at the start of 2022, with Gomes directing remotely from Portugal. Gomes then completed the script and Reis submitted applications for funding in Portugal, Italy and France, as well as from the Eurimages program.

Once those funds were in place, Gomes shot the narrative sequences in studios in Portugal and Italy in early 2023.

Reis says it was a "challenge" to do the Asia trip without a script, adding "it's not as it's meant to be in the industry, but it was also very appealing." She adds that it required "a risk" to be taken to shoot the archive footage before applying to the production funds.

Asked how working with Gomes compares with working other directors, she says: "He's very unique. And I think to work with him, you really have to be very confident about what he's doing, because it can be a proposal that's a bit outside the box compared with the way you are used to doing things, and the way the funds and the industry thinks things are supposed to be done."

During the studio shoot they had "links to some rough edit archive footage, so that when you read the script, you could understand at least how [the narrative footage] crossed over with the archive," she says. The narrative sequences are in Portuguese, except for one character who speaks in French. The archive footage is in the language of the country that the crew were shooting in.

Although the story takes place in Asia during a time of imperial rule in many countries colonialism isn't the theme, Reis says, in contrast to "Tabu." "I would say that it's something new. Of course, ‘Tabu' is a great film, but I think this one will be surprising," she says, enigmatically.

As to the tone of "Grand Tour," Reis says that it contains both comedy and tragedy, "but it is also melancholic, and it is courageous." She adds: "I think it has a lot of emotional elements for us to make a connection with it."

The film was finished in October, and shown to Cannes in November. A world premiere at Cannes was always "Plan A," Reis says, adding: "I feel as a producer that it's where the film is supposed to be, and where Miguel is supposed to be."

At present no preview screenings are planned, although that may change, and Gomes isn't doing press interviews before the world premiere. "We would like it if the film was discovered by everyone at the same time," Reis says. "I'm a bit anxious to see how it will be received, and we are very curious about that. So it would be nice if we could make a surprise and share our enthusiasm and our surprise with the audience."

Reis says that her next project as a producer will be Gomes' Brazilian-set film "Savagery," which will be co-produced by Tatiana Leite in Brazil. Further details about the project will be released at a later date.

Gomes had been developing "Savagery" prior to shooting "Grand Tour," but put it on ice due to the pandemic and the difficult environment for filmmakers in Brazil during the rule of former president Jair Bolsonaro. "We think that with the new government in Brazil, and with this selection [in Cannes] of ‘Grand Tour' now is the moment for us to go forward with it," she says.

One of the year’s most anticipated films will be on sale for independent buyers at the upcoming Cannes market. We can bring you news that French sales company Goodfellas has boarded Francis Ford Coppola ’s Megalopolis ahead of the movie’s world premiere in Competition at the festival.

Also confirmed today is the film’s French deal with Le Pacte and the involvement of longtime Coppola collaborator Paul Rassam.

Adam Driver stars as an idealistic architect attempting to rebuild New York as an American Utopia, with the ensemble cast also featuring Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voigt, Laurence Fishburne and Kathryn Hunter. Above is a first look image from the movie.

The movie will debut in Competition in Cannes on the evening of Thursday, May 16.

As per Mike’s report on the L.A. screening , Coppola and longtime attorney Barry Hirsch, who is a producer the film, have been looking for a distribution strategy that will reach a wide audience in the fall, with an emphasis on Imax theatres. The U.S. deal remains a work in progress.

The deals revealed today were negotiated by Hirsch with Goodfellas (formerly Wild Bunch International) President Vincent Maraval and Le Pacte President Jean Labadie. Instrumental in the negotiations was Paul Rassam, longtime partner of Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola, known for distributing films such as  Apocalypse Now, Tucker, Lost In Translation, Marie Antoinette, Amadeus, Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Dances With Wolves,  and  Into the Wild.

The deal with Goodfellas and the now finalized sale of French rights to Le Pacte means the film will meet with a Cannes rule that Competition films must release theatrically in France before hitting any platform.

It remains to be seen whether the movie goes the streaming route elsewhere, although Deadline hears Goodfellas is also already close to securing theatrical deals in a number of key territories.

Paris-based Goodfellas has a long track record of audacious sales campaigns at Cannes.

Over its 20-year run, Maraval’s firm has sold 11 Palme d’Or winners including Michael Moore’s  Farenheit 9/11 , Cristian Mungiu’s  4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days , Abdellatif Kechiche’s  Blue Is The Warmest Colou r, Hirokazu Kor-eda’s Shoplifters and Julia Ducournau’s Titane , while it has helped a raft of Cannes titles breakout internationally including Nadine Labaki’s Capernaum and Ladj Ly’s Les Misérables . The company’s Oscar-winning sales titles include Michel Hazanavicius’s  The Artist , Luc Jacquet’s  March of the Penguins  and Hayao Miyazaki’s  Spirited Away.

Coppola and French producer Rassam go back a long way. In 1977, Rassam invested in Apocalypse Now  when it was in financial difficulty in return for the French rights to the film. The deal resulted in a life-long friendship between the two men and their families.

Le Pacte’s Jean Labadie said today: “I want to thank Francis Ford Coppola, Barry Hirsch, and Paul Rassam for trusting Le Pacte with the distribution of Megalopolis in France. It is fantastic for us, as our admiration for Francis’ work is immense. How many directors have been able to liberate themselves from the ‘rules’ of cinema? How often do we experience a film in which every sequence is truly astonishing, with incredible performances from an A-list acting ensemble? Thanks to Megalopolis , our faith in American independent cinema is alive, and our appetite for bold films—which combine pleasure, outstanding direction, and reflection—are  fulfilled.”

Goodfella’s Vincent Maraval added: “This is a dream come true for Goodfellas as we have always dedicated ourselves to legendary directors and their vision. We had the chance to screen the film last week and we were blown away. This is a film that never ceases to surprise you, to challenge the boundaries of independent cinema in a joyful and visually impressive dance, leaving you with the unique feeling of never having seen such a thing before. The iconic director is back!”

The feature film is produced by Fred Roos, Barry Hirsch, and Michael Bederman, and is executive-produced by Anahid Nazarian, Barrie Osbourne, and Darren Demetre.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The Korn Ferry Tour announced today a five-year partnership with the Vanderbilt Legends Club at Vanderbilt University to host the annual Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation beginning this season. The 2024 Simmons Bank Open will be played Sept. 12-15 on the North Course at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee, and the Tennessee Golf Foundation (TGF) will continue as the operator and host organization of the event.

“We are thrilled about the future of the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation,” said Tennessee Golf Foundation President Whit Turnbow. “Vanderbilt University and the Legends Club have been interwoven into the history of the TGF dating back to the early 1990s, and to align that relationship with the strategic vision of the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR University was a match made in heaven. The golf teams, staff and membership have been a joy to work with and we look forward to showing the Legends Club to the world in September!”

Founded in 1992, Vanderbilt Legends Club is a 36-hole golf club located approximately 20 miles south of downtown Nashville. The North Course at Vanderbilt Legends Club, which stretches 7,190 yards from the championship tees, was designed by world-renowned golf course architect Bob Cupp, as well as World Golf Hall of Famer and 19-time PGA TOUR winner Tom Kite.

“I’m delighted that Vanderbilt University has partnered with the PGA TOUR to keep the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation in the middle Tennessee area,” said Candice Storey Lee, Vanderbilt’s Vice Chancellor for athletics and university affairs and athletic director. “We are extremely fortunate to have Vanderbilt Legends Club host a world-class event that will bring in some of the best golfers in the world to compete on the same course that our golfers play at on a daily basis. We hope that this partnership will continue to enrich a growing golf community in the greater Nashville area while showing support for Brandt, Mandy and the Snedeker Foundation.”

The courses at Vanderbilt Legends Club, as well as its pristine 19-acre practice facility, are widely recognized among the finest in Tennessee. The club has hosted numerous competitions, including the Tennessee State Open (1993-96), Southeastern Conference Women’s Championship (1995), LPGA Franklin American Mortgage Championship hosted by Vince Gill & Amy Grant (2000-06), NCAA Women’s Golf Championship (2012), NCAA Women’s Golf Franklin Regional (2022), and the annual Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt.

The Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation is a 72-hole tournament that has been a staple on the Korn Ferry Tour schedule since the inaugural playing in 2016 (not played in 2020 due to COVID-19). In 2022, the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation was honored with the prestigious Tournament of the Year Award as part of the PGA TOUR’s annual tournament meetings. Last year, the tournament became a Korn Ferry Tour Finals event, where players compete for increased purses and points over the final four events of the season to determine the season-long points race and claim one of 30 PGA TOUR cards.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Vanderbilt Legends Club and look forward to showcasing its exceptional course and facilities as host of the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation,” said Korn Ferry Tour President Alex Baldwin. “The Legends Club will serve as a great test for our players during the Korn Ferry Tour Finals as they compete to earn membership on golf’s ultimate stage, the PGA TOUR. As up-and-coming stars continue to emerge from the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR University, we are excited to partner with Vanderbilt University, which is one of the most respected academic institutions in the nation and also one of the top collegiate golf programs annually."

The Simmons Bank Open first announced in 2017 that The Snedeker Foundation would be the official charitable beneficiary of middle Tennessee’s only PGA TOUR-sanctioned tournament. The Snedeker Foundation was founded in 2012 by nine-time PGA TOUR winner and 2012 FedExCup champion Brandt Snedeker and his wife, Mandy, to help serve different charities in middle Tennessee. The foundation supports a variety of efforts on both the social and athletic fronts, including "Our Kids," which provides expert medical evaluations and crisis counseling services in response to concerns of child sexual abuse while also working to increase community awareness, education and training about child maltreatment.

"Mandy and I can’t wait to welcome the Simmons Bank Open and the golf world to Vanderbilt Legends Club this September,” said Brandt Snedeker. “Vanderbilt University has played such a vital role in my life and career, and we have so many special friendships and relationships that continue to this day. To bring those together with our Korn Ferry Tour event, which directly benefits the Snedeker Foundation, is very exciting. With the Simmons Bank Open being part of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, and the national exposure and media coverage that comes along with that, this is a positive thing for everyone involved. We know our friends at the Tennessee Golf Foundation will put on a first-class experience that all of middle Tennessee can be proud of."

Through the Tennessee Golf Foundation, the Snedeker Foundation annually supports the Sneds Tour, which puts forth a year-round junior golf tour in Tennessee aimed at allowing kids to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf, while also making competition more affordable through lower entry and registration fees. The Snedeker Foundation has raised in excess of $1 million for charities in the region and The Simmons Bank Open is proud to partner with the Snedekers in support of their mission.

Snedeker is a Nashville native who later played collegiately at nearby Vanderbilt University before earning PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honors in 2007. Prior to that, Snedeker got his start on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he won twice in 2006 and earned his PGA TOUR card for the 2007 season.
