These players will lose their PDC Tour Cards after 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship

During the World Darts Championship , the battle for the world title takes center stage, but in the background, some players are still fighting to keep the PDC Tour Card, while some others are trying to earn one.

The top-64 players in the world rankings after the World Darts Championship are guaranteed a PDC Tour Card for 2023. So are the players who received Tour Cards in early 2022.

For 27 players it is already clear that they will lose their PDC Tour Card after this year. Among them include Scott Mitchell, Glen Durrant , John Henderson , Max Hopp and Steve West who will lose their spots on the Pro Tour. They can try to regain a Tour Card at the Q-School in January 2023.

Durrant announces next move after losing PDC Tour Card, accepts invitation to 2023 World Seniors Darts Championship

Keegan Brown , Niels Zonneveld, Geert Nentjes and Danny Baggish have virtually lost their PDC Tour Card, but with a good performance at the World Darts Championship can still get into the top-64 of the PDC Order of Merit. Nentjes is already sure of a new Tour Card because of his high ranking on the Development Tour, the youth circuit of the PDC.

Good performances by the aforementioned names then come at the expense of players who are currently narrowly in the top-64. Currently, Ron Meulenkamp sits on the edge in 64th. Meulenkamp did not qualify for the tournament at Alexandra Palace.

That does include Lewy Williams (now 60th), Adam Gawlas (now 62nd) and Jeff Smith (now 63rd). Steve Lennon (59th) and Joe Murnan (61st), like Meulenkamp, must wait to see if he keeps his Tour Card.

Nine dart Dobey lifts third PDC Pro Tour title

Chris Dobey fired in a nine darter and a 170 outshot as part of a dramatic day on the PDC Pro Tour which saw Hollywood claim his third floor title.

The former Masters Champion hit The Big Fish to win his round two match with Mike De Decker, before pinging the nine in the next round against Mickey Mansell en route to beating Josh Rock 8-4 in the Players Championship 7 Final in Leicester.

It’s the first time since 2021 that the Newcastle ace has won a floor event, moving him up to number 14 in the world in the process.

Dobey defies Rock for PDC Pro Tour win

Rock, who’d defeated the likes of Ryan Searle and Gian van Veen to secure a spot in his first final since 2022, started the brighter, winning three of the first four legs to take a 3-1 advantage. 27 darts later though, that advantage was gone, as Dobey won two straight himself to equalise.

Both held once more to move the game on to 4-4, before Hollywood hit the gas button and moved into overdrive. Rock, the 2022 World Youth Champion, only got one more shot at double in the contest, as Dobey hit two 17 darters in between two 11 darters to seal the victory, hitting double six to get over the line.

What else happened?

Despite losing out in the semi finals, it was an excellent day for Luke Woodhouse. The Bewdley ace started the event outside the World Matchplay qualification spots, but his run to last four knocked out Andrew Gilding and pushed Woody into a qualifying spot.

French player Thibault Tricole made his maiden PDC quarter final, while Ian White and Ryan Meikle’s runs to the last eight helped them in their battles to attempt to save their tour card.

It wasn’t just Hollywood who hit nine darters in Leicester either. Steve Beaton achieved the feat in his first round clash against James Hurrell, but lost 6-3. Daryl Gurney then pinned perfection in his second round match v Jeffrey De Graaf, before his last eight loss.

FInally, Luke Littler lost to Ross Smith in the last 16, but beat World Champion Luke Humphries 6-5 yet again, this time in their board final. There were also first round exits for a whole host of big names, including Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price and Gary Anderson.

2024 NEO.bet European Darts Grand Prix draw & schedule

Rob Cross (PDC Europe)

Rob Cross will begin his defence of the NEO.bet European Darts Grand Prix against Martin Schindler or Gian van Veen, with Luke Humphries and Luke Littler poised to renew their rivalry in Sindelfingen this weekend.

The Glaspalast will play host to the year's fourth PDC European Tour event from April 19-21, with the draw and schedule now confirmed for the £175,000 tournament.

This weekend’s action will see reigning champion Cross competing alongside world number one Humphries, Dutch superstar Michael van Gerwen and the returning Littler, who won the year's first European Tour title on debut in Wieze last month.

Friday's first round - which will be broadcast through PDCTV , Viaplay and DAZN - will feature 16 matches across two sessions, as Germany's new number one Schindler takes centre stage.

Schindler defeated Gerwyn Price to triumph in last weekend's NEO.bet International Darts Open, and the diminutive German will begin his bid for back-to-back European Tour titles against European Championship semi-finalist Van Veen.

Schindler's World Cup partner Gabriel Clemens will play Rene Eidams in an all-German affair, while Host Nation Qualifier Arno Merk has the unenviable task of taking on Belgian Darts Open champion Littler for a place in round two.

Franz Roetzsch will make his return to home soil against five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld, while the talented Niko Springer faces World Championship semi-finalist Scott Williams in his opening game.

2017 champion Peter Wright - also a three-time runner-up in Sindelfingen - opens his challenge against Mickey Mansell, as Joe Cullen meets Swedish qualifier Johan Engstrom.

Former European Darts Grand Prix winners Jose de Sousa and Ian White face Daryl Gurney and Chris Dobey respectively, with Masters champion Stephen Bunting drawn against Croatia's Romeo Grbavac.

2023 UK Open champion Andrew Gilding goes head-to-head with Brendan Dolan in another intriguing tie, while Ritchie Edhouse will aim to build upon his run to the quarter-finals in Riesa when he meets 2018 runner-up James Wade.

The 16 seeded players will then headline Saturday's second round, as defending champion Cross prepares to take on Schindler or Van Veen for a place in the last 16.

Humphries, meanwhile, could play Littler in a repeat of January's World Championship showpiece, with the World Champion aiming to repeat his 2022 triumph in Sindelfingen.

Third seed Price will kick off his campaign against Gilding or Dolan, while two-time champion Van Gerwen could renew his rivalry with Cullen, in a repeat of the 2022 Premier League final.

Stephen Burton and Keane Barry will battle it out for the right to play top seed Dave Chisnall, as fourth seed Damon Heta awaits the winner of the clash between Wright and Mansell.

Two-time World Champion Gary Anderson has been handed a tie with Niels Zonneveld or former PDC Asian Champion Christian Perez, while 2023 World Champion Michael Smith meets Roetzsch or Van Barneveld for a place in the last 16.

Ricardo Pietreczko is guaranteed to face a fellow countryman in the shape of Clemens or Eidams, before fifth seed Dirk van Duijvenbode enters the fray against Edhouse or Wade.

Following Saturday's second round, the last 16 will take place on Sunday afternoon, before the tournament concludes with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in a bumper evening session. NB: From the original list of entries, Nathan Aspinall has withdrawn due to personal reasons, while Dimitri Van den Bergh is absent due to illness. They have been replaced by Ian White and Niels Zonneveld from the Reserve List.

Live coverage of all 2024 European Tour events will be streamed through Viaplay, and through DAZN for viewers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Coverage will also be shown on PDCTV (excluding Germany, Austria and Switzerland) and through bookmakers' worldwide.
